I want to grab that. The world's stupidest Yeah. He's the world's stupidest panda today. You can qualify for just being my giant What? It's close to your face. We're getting close-ups today. >> you could probably do without that, Andres. difficulty. I'm just going to film myself. Johnny, what's your family doing for spring break? We are going to Scotland. Are you? Really? Where? Some place. Uh we're starting Edinburgh, doing that for 3 days, 3 nights, doing St. Andrews for 3 nights, doing Highlands for 3 nights. >> Wow. >> 12:00 a.m. And we have a couple of items that we need to get to. Hopefully we can do it quickly since we're running a little behind. Uh the first is we are going to discuss board policy 1003, board job description and board policy 1225, school and
all of these things. Basically, we're going to come back to the uh proposed was a permanent position on safe school environments that Director Medina mentioned. Yes. Uh so, I did that uh um And I don't know if you can put it up there. I'm not sure or not, but I did change a little bit from the last meeting to what um you are seeing right now or you might see there. But um it's just uh after talking with some of the resolutions committee and being part of the resolutions committee, uh I wanted to incorporate in the language a little bit of the rational because once it is approved, the rational goes away. So, it was very easy to later in the future merge it with other resolutions. So, I wanted to make it very independent
and very and to the point. So, each school will have a little more independence how they they will uh apply this, but it is more on for what makes them on being more proactive in supporting the schools to oversee anything related to sexual harassment and sex based misconduct. So um And we discussed this also at our last meeting. So we we could not vote to approve it. Um Dr. Bradley, I don't know if you've had a chance to look at this yet. >> I have. Okay. So the discussion at the last meeting was that we would you know, that we were generally in favor of of doing this but we needed to give it a until we need to approve it. So I I need to officially that we all have to vote to approve
it before I can submit it. So is there any discussion that anyone would like to have before we vote on this? Thank you for doing this work, Christine. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, it's great. I'm I'm excited I can Yeah, yeah. Right. I can see that. Glad we're doing good with the end. It's nice that we can do it as our description our board. So Okay. Well then I will call for a vote. So can I or can I make it get a motion please to approve the Wazzu permanent position on safe school environments? I vote I will have to vote it. Please do it. I move that we approve the sorry, okay over your shoulder the proposed permanent position on safe school environments. Okay. So director Tucker moves, director McIntyre seconds it. Uh students? Aye.
Board? Aye. 2050 in favor. All right, great. So good. So Thank you for doing that. Uh now we are going to move on to board policy 1003 board job description and board policy 4300 limiting immigration enforcement in schools. And this was the email that came to us from the Bellevue board. And is there everyone had a chance to review Mhm. it? What do you say, it Okay. So, I'd love to hear your thoughts. So, I I and I I can start a little bit. I did uh also I am part of the federal uh network from WASA. Um they also sent an email and one of the things that they're saying in the new law at the federal level is that the wording how it is that it is it's too manipulative the way that
it is to enforce immigration inside the schools. >> Can you say that sentence again? So, I I'm trying to So, that that like uh So, I have to um the wording that how is it being said and proposed at the federal level uh has some concerns that will allow some immigration informants inside the schools. So, by opposing and being part of this network is saying like we are saying we do not want immigration informants in any school in the state. >> Mhm. This kind of uh um to work on and I'm going to see if I can find that and and put it to you guys, but uh it is um >> The federal one. The it is at the federal level that that it told the schools trying to uh make statement saying that
that the wording uh it is has to be clear that immigration informants cannot happen inside the school unless kind of how we have it that it is. >> So, is there a national version of WASA that it's coming from? Is that Yes. I think that really like adds urgency to if we're going to approve this to to us as a committee. And um I I know I you know, I didn't think to include this to later. Um an article from the New England Journal of Medicine that just came out this week about the impact on students of stress related to immigration enforcement. Um not just the students whose families might be affected, but other students, you know, just like witnessing people getting taken away, that kind of thing. And um I just think there is
like zero reason for immigration enforcement to be occurring in or next to our schools. Like if somebody is here illegally, that is something there's lots of places you can go to address that. It doesn't have to be happening in the schools and disrupting our kids' education. So, I strongly support this. I think this is this is similar to what we passed last year. Director Bradley. Um I Yeah, my only thought is such that immigration enforcement showed up with a warrant to collect someone that I mean, whether it's a warrant for immigration or a warrant for some other thing, it's still a valid warrant. They can come in the schools and Yeah, there is their documentation and we have uh different protocols and procedures in place with our front office staff who we've done a little
different um information training with uh and our administrators. We don't expect them to make that decision. They call district office and then um assistant superintendent Battersby and/or myself would come and um work directly with them to make sure that the credentials are valid um and that they do fall in line with what would be um a reason to contact not only a staff or a student, but a staff member as well. And just to like depoliticize it a little bit, can you imagine if like law enforcement was showing up to arrest parents in the pick school pick up line for like tax fraud, for example? Like that would be unnecessary like kind of harassment of families and right, trauma for children. So, Yeah. I think that this only reinforces that our procedures were well in
place without disrupting them. And I believe that that is true for for any situation that involves uh uh law enforcement. Yeah, I mean, our priority is is you know, ensuring that our our kids are able to learn in the best possible environment and immigration enforcement rates are I was really pleased with the work that we did last year on this. As Lucy said, like that and I think this just strengthens that hand and shows that we're still, you know, committed and involved in this process and I support anything that we can do just to to show commitment to our community members who might be affected but also just to anybody. Great. Okay. Let's go ahead and someone make a motion to approve the letter to legislators on legislators on protecting protections for sensitive locations. So
moved. Director moved. Seconded students. Board 92050 in favor and 0 So I will then let them know today. And I guess they will just attach our name. I'm just going to do it right now. Just type it. They don't need our name. Logo or anything. They didn't ask for all of that. Sometimes districts they'll ask for that. Yeah. Cuz when they do this, signature. I'll need the theaters. Consider adding your name in support. You're willing to join, please confirm by April 21st. So I don't Great. >> Great. And then there's really I'll I'll I'll just say it. Ask if there's anything else. Okay. So great. With that, could I Can I just do a couple quick announcements? I'm going to be working tomorrow, Monday, Wednesday, probably off Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. I'll be available but I'm
going to be out of the state in Florida next week. I'll do a board update this weekend but probably not do one next week unless something comes up that's emergent moving forward there and then when we come back you go right into a week where you have a board meeting so we'll do an update on Crest as well as high cap for you at your board meeting and I'll continue to work with the board president on some of the responses to and see BCC or CC all of you on responses that different families have sent as well so that's just my On Crest I know you're setting up a tour for some of us. >> Yes. And then have you potentially offered that tour to current Crest families and then some of the former Crest
families that are concerned about changes to the program? Um possibly I haven't thought that through we do have a formal meeting with Crest families for the Monday we get back so we have a we have one at the high school I'm not sure if they if that's going to involve tour as well although it could at some point. Yeah so it's good. Um I just have about one more thing which is I've had numerous inquiries asking me about that soccer coach um that turned himself in. Yep. >> Um what are we going to ever get an update on that situation or is that just kind of closed as far as the district is concerned? Um it's closed as far as we're concerned at this time we have not been contacted by MIPD nor any other
agency since I did meet last night I I I convened a group of leaders of different athletic organizations in our community so the Mershon football club Mershon girls basketball lacrosse um Eastside um who else bro boys and girls club our athletic director to start a conversation as an offshoot of the work that we're doing with there and so they did not share anything either last night. If I do hear something I'll let you know. Thanks. Do you need to like know if anybody's in town during spring break for board stuff or do you just going to get in touch with I'll just keep them posted. Yeah, that's what I mean if you're not going to be here. I don't know where you were in town for like a municipal emergency coordinator or something. Or you
could just text us, right? Yeah. If we have to have an emergency one we would do I have staff who will be here and house it out of the board room and then you could be virtual. >> Yeah. Okay. So. So yeah. So we don't need to I feel like I don't need you guys. People need you. Nothing will happen. Don't people not need to alert anything? We would just Yeah. Yeah. But let's if we do have a meeting that's happening late so that Jillian's like 4:00 in the morning like sunburned from golf. Yeah, I'm not I don't want to be here. I don't want an emergency meeting. That's not good for your health. You might need to do a drill. Of course. You might need to do a drill just to see. Yeah, see
how the emergency meeting goes. You did get a sense of what happens if one of our schools has a drill this morning when you heard all our our phones going off. That's our Raptor. So they were doing a fire drill down at Island Park. Right. And so what you were hearing is we have an override on our phones that Andriyevs and Antonian and his team it's called Raptor and it's the same technology for when you check in on your badges. And so what you were hearing is all of us getting that alert that there one of our schools was having an emergency. And that breaks through do not disturb like Yeah, breaks through everything. And so that one was coming up and that's what that was is alerting us. Now we knew it was a
drill for two reasons. One is the principal had already notified us all don't worry it's just going to be a drill but two it also comes up as a drill instead of live but lockdowns, fire, any evacuations, um we all get the alert. But it also uh contacted the principal the other principals on the other school is all of them? If If they have that setting, they can get contacted for everything. It's a most of our principals. Uh I was not saying kids moving going anywhere like regardless if it's a drill. Yeah, if it's a drill, but it's moving here. Do you want to add anything to that, St. Augustine? No, that was good. Um we're we've uh been working using it with our staff all year and then gathering feedback and just continuing to
try and make improve uh improvements uh and improve efficiencies um and then this would also be used for reunification um if we went into an actual emergency. Okay, can you motion to adjourn? I move we adjourn. Second. Stennis? Aye. Ford? Aye. Tucker? Made the motion. Yeah, you're really in charge of the meeting. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you, everyone. Where are you going, Mr. Chairman?
