All right, I have 6:30. We'll go ahead and get started. Uh, call the meeting to order. Ask for roll call, please. here. >> Here >> am I supposed to? Please join me in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, we have minutes from the regular meeting April 13 and special meeting on April 20. I move for approval of the regular meeting minutes from the 13th of April and the special meeting minutes of April 20th as written. >> Second. >> All right. A motion and a second to approve the regular meeting minutes and special meeting minutes. All in favor say I. >> I. >> All
those not same sign. All right. Thank you for those that are in attendance this evening. I see we got a couple visitors for thank you for being here tonight. Uh and thank you for anybody that's uh at home listening and watching. We do have uh one person signed up for public comment. So at this time I ask uh Thomas Carol to please come up. >> Uh over here I presume. >> Yep. >> Thank you. >> Welcome. >> Thank you very much. I appreciate this opportunity for public comment. Um my name is Thomas Carroll. I'm a parent of two students in the district. One of them is finishing his seventh grade year. The other one is finishing his fifth grade year. Um been in district for 12 years now. Absolutely love the Beaver Damp School District.
Um had great experiences here. Today I wanted to come and talk about the uh middle school bell schedule changes. Um overall I completely agree with the schedule changes. Going from the 10 periods to the eight periods makes a lot of sense. Reduces student churn. Uh those kind of things. There are a few impacts that I am concerned about though. So specifically the competition between the electives, the music and the wind time all being collapsed into a single block. Um, that's going to create some competition for student elections. It's going to create some competition for that win time which is used by a lot of teachers in a variety of ways. Um, our low performers get some intervention time during that period. Our high performers, which also need that extra time, get some intervention time. That's
also when music practices historically have occurred at the middle school. And it seems like having win in the same block as music is going to hamper that. And I have a concern about when that practice time for students can happen. Um, my oldest son participated in a solo and ensemble this year. He actually went to state and when we were coming out of state, he got a one at state by the way. Seventh grade class A song knocked it out of the park. But we were coming out of there and I'm like, you know, hey, Alex, you what was some of the things that like led to this moment that led to you doing so well? And he talked about Miss Lef Fever pulling him out during wind time, doing some one-on- ons, going through
the music, talking about it, and really getting him up to the point where he understood the song fully and could perform the song instead of performing the individual notes and the individual lines that he was doing. um with the bell changes. I first found out about it when he came home and said, "Hey, I can't take the electives that I was going to sign up for this year because the choice is music or electives." So, recently more communications came out. And it turns out that the choice is kind of music or everything else. And the everything else has really cool stuff in it. We have like our flight and science. We have the app development program. Um all kinds of interesting electives that help our students be career ready. The problem is if you choose
music, all of that is locked off to you. So now we put our parents in the situation of do we send our students through music throughout middle school or do we send our students into the elective programs that are going to make them career ready throughout middle school? And I I think the big problem in that is a lot of the kids are excited for some of these electives and that means that some kids are going to choose not to pursue music. And uh this is where I have to bring up some of my professional experience. I'm a principal engineer working for a network engineering team within charter communications. Been doing that for almost 20 years. spent the last 12 years as a principal engineer, do a lot of mentoring, do a lot of training,
and there was a a weird thing when we got together with the most talented engineers in my company. We would all get talking about music and we all had music in our backgrounds. So, I did a quick straw poll. Turns out nine out of 10 of our top 10 engineers have music in their background. You look at the top 20, that goes to 16. So, I did a straw poll of some of our entry- level guys, got about 40%. I said, "Hey, there might be a relationship here." So, I went and did some digging uh on behalf of HR. And I found some studies from 2019 and 2020 that directly links musical studies to academic performance. And I know that one of our strategic goals as a school district that I support is raising our
proficiency numbers. If we make students choose between all the really cool stuff that their friends told them was awesome and music, many of them will choose not to pursue music. With a reduction in the total number of students studying music, that will suppress our academic achievement scores based on the results of these studies. I have links to them and everything. I can send them to you if you want, but I I brought my citations. All right, just to kind of close out here, that was a bit of my professional experience. Um, here's my personal experience. I've seen in fifth grade. He's about to go to middle school and we have to make the choice, music or everything else. And it's really hard. We spent a long time talking to him about what that means and
what that's going to mean for him throughout middle school. And I'm proud of him. He chose music, but if he had chose the other one, I couldn't be disappointed because they're both great. One of my big concerns is other students are not going to make that choice. And as Brandon, our middle school principal, described it, the crown jewel of, you know, um, Beaverdam Middle School is our fine arts program and our fine arts night. If we have fewer students participating in music in two years, we're going to have fewer students participating in music in the high school. We have an award-winning music program in this town and in this school district. And I think that without taking another look at the bell changes to give some more agency to the kids and to help put
both things back on the table, we're going to be in a situation where we're going to suppress that music program and erode over the next like two to five years as we get a reduced headcount and reduce skill capability. So, those are some of my concerns with the bell schedule and hopefully you'll take it to heart and just take another look at the bell schedule because I I really like the eight periods and I think there are some ways that we can move some periods around, give some agency back to the kids, give them the full spectrum of opportunities that exist in the middle school without taking away from any of the goals of the changes in the first place. Please take it under consideration. Thank you. >> I appreciate your comments. Thank you. >>
Uh does anybody have any questions before I step aside? >> Great. >> Thank you. >> All right, we will move on to agenda. Uh look for a motion for adoption. >> So move. >> Second. >> All right. Motion in a second for adoption of the agenda. All in favor say I. >> All those not same sign. >> All right. It moves us on to reports by administration starting with 8.1 open enrollment requests. >> Good evening. >> So, as part of our formal open enrollment application process, I'm here this evening to present this year's open enrollment application requests. Detailed information is included in your board packets, but I will provide a brief summary at this time. This year we received 43 applications from students seeking to open enroll into our district. This res represents a slight
decrease of the 51 applications received last year. Um and the rec requests we did receive are fairly evenly distributed across all grade levels in our district with the exception of a larger number of requests at the 4K level which accounted for 21 of our applications. Regarding applications for students requesting to open enroll, we received 39 applications for 30 students. The discrepancy between that number of 39 apps and 30 students is a result of a stu, you know, a student might be seeking to enroll out and they applied to more than one district for consideration. That's why the numbers, you know, a little different. Last year we had 40 students that sought open enrollment out which was um so that means we have fewer this year only 30 students compared to the 40 last year. Um
to provide more context regarding those 39 requests to open and roll out of our district this year. Only four of those applications are for students currently enrolled in attending our school district. So, based on the space availability that the board reviewed um and approved in January, as well as consideration of our current staffing and board policy, the following recommendations are being made. Approval is recommended for 38 applications for students seeking to open enroll into the district. And approval is recommended for 39 applications representing 30 students seeking to transfer out of the district. >> Any questions? Otherwise, look for a motion. >> Just a point of clarity, too. So this is the just so folks understand this is the traditional open enrollment period. So uh the board is obligated to review this and consider that um
that uh doesn't prevent anybody else who's interested in open enrolling into our district through the non-traditional timelines which DPI provides a lot of flexibility for that and we often do see people joining us um during the summer in particular. So um just wanted to remind folks of that as well. Do we need two separate motions or can it all be one? >> Can be can be one >> one for the >> one. Yes, it can be one. >> But to add on to what Mark said too, that alternate um open enrollment application window starts July 1st. I make a motion we approve the recommend uh via 38 applications for students to open enroll in the district and for 39 applications for 30 30 students to transfer out of the district. >> I'll second it. >>
All right, we have a motion and a second is stated. Um all in favor say I. I. >> All those not same call. >> Thank you. Go ahead. >> All right. I am here to discuss the proposed calendar for the 2728 school year. It has 173 student contact days. There are 12 inservice days planned and one collaboration day. The teacher collaboration day has been used the past few calendars to allow our collaborative teams to meet and work on professional learning items. The collaboration day is flexible and there's a spaceholder in there for if it's not completed during the summer months that it would be completed upon in service in the fall. That said, the calendar that's being proposed for your consideration tonight has a start date prior to September 1st. The purpose of the early
start date is to allow more flexibility at any sites that would be under construction during the summer months, as well as to offset some transportation costs. In order to start prior to September 1st, we need to apply for a waiver. It's anticipated that this would be approved from DPI based on the precedent and allowable reasons for the waiver. We are recommending the board approve the proposed calendar which is in the board packet and was discussed at teaching and learning committee last month as well as operations. Should this calendar be approved, we will submit a formal board resolution to DPI for consideration of an early start date, otherwise known as a waiver. One thing to point out that's changed since committee meetings last month was the recommended date from April, that inservice date has now been
flipped to March. Um, based off the feedback that we've received from multiple groups. Everything else remains the same. >> Any questions? Otherwise, I look for a motion. >> Just a question. I'm sorry. What date in April was switched? You said April 17th. >> Yep. There was um April 17th was originally scheduled for an inservice date. So that date would be moved to the back end of spring break in March on March 27th, >> but the the 14th of April still remains. That's the holiday. >> That's the holiday. Yes. >> Good. >> I'll move that the board approve its proposed calendar that's attached in our packet that was presented as option one at the teaching and learning learning committee and operations committee last month with that change of the service days. >> I second that motion.
>> All right. Motion a second then. Motion and a second then to approve the uh school year calendar as presented. Uh all in favor say I. >> I. I. >> All not same sign. >> Thank you. >> All right. That moves us to 8.3 high school band trip request. Evening Mr. Gerber. >> Good evening. I am back to talk about field trips but just one this time. Uh this one is for the BDHS marching bands trip to Disney uh to that they take uh once every four years. Um most of the all the cost goes to the families uh a little bit picked up uh variable based on needs by the club but no uh direct money from the school itself. It is an overnight, it is out of state. Um pretty straightforward. Um some
of the perks you see um obviously besides visiting Disney World uh they do get to march through the uh the different uh parks and they do have a uh soundtrack session workshop with professional Disney Disney musician. So some really cool learning experiences in a pretty cool place. >> Oh go ahead. >> As in other years are they having the opportunity to fund raise to help offset that cost? Yeah, we've already started talking a little bit about that. Uh the the reason for us talking now about this is the first payments are starting to come up, down payments. So, we wanted to make sure we provided some security for the families knowing that this trip was going to move forward so that we can start having those conversations about u fundraising. But yes, uh there are
actually a couple groups that have reached out and said, "Hey, we got an opportunity for fundraising. Do you know anyone interested?" >> Yes, I do. Additional questions? Otherwise, look for a motion. >> I'll move to approve the BA high school band trip request as presented. >> Second. >> All right. Motion a second to approve the high school band trip request as presented. All in favor say I. >> I. >> All those not, same sign. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Thank you. >> All right. That moves us on to uh reports presented by the board of education and we have 9.1 reports or report by our student reps and it will be their last report as they will be closing in on graduation I believe. So take it away. >> All right. Thanks. It's
crazy. This is the last one already. Uh in clubs and activities, students have continued to stay super involved as the school year progresses into the spring season. Our spring sports are in full swing with athletes competing in meets, games, tournaments, and invitationals throughout the season. Our student athletes have continued to represent the school positively through their dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment both on the field and in the classroom. Coaches and athletes alike have put in significant time and effort this season, and it's been exciting to see the continued support from students, staff, families, and community members at these events. >> Um, regarding DECA, we would like to congratulate Lucas and Darren for their outstanding accomplishments this year. After qualifying at the state level in the school-based entrepreneurship food comp operations event, they earned the opportunity
to attend DECA Internationals in Atlanta, Georgia. They were the only two to go this year. Um, their success highlights the opportunities students have to develop leadership, communication, and career readiness skills through extracurricular involvement. >> Our music students have also remained very active through concerts, performances, and other music events taking place throughout the spring season. These events continue to showcase the talent, dedication, and countless hours of preparation from both students and directors. The arts remain an important part of student life and provide many opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and community engagement. >> Academically, students are completing AP testing in a wide variety of subjects. Currently, the high school offers 16 advanced placement level courses, and these exams provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate college level learning and potentially earn college credit while we're still in high
school. Uh these AP courses continue to challenge students especially me and Carter academically and but also really help to prepare us for future um educational opportunities. >> Students have also participated in the LL and I Ready diagnostic testing as a part of the school's effort to monitor student growth, identify important areas of improvement, and support academic progress throughout the year. And looking forward to major events, graduation for the class of 2026 will take place on May 31st at 1:30 p.m. Graduation is an exciting milestone that recognizes the accomplishments, perseverance, and growth of the senior class throughout their educational journey. For those that cannot attend in person, Daily Doss will be will be live streaming throughout the graduation ceremony. >> Also, senior award night will be held May 20th to recognize seniors for their academic achievements,
leadership, involvement, and scholarships they've earned throughout high school. Also, this Wednesday, the Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation Award Night is being held at Old Hickory to celebrate students receiving scholarships and support from local organizations and community members. Also, I would like to give a special shout out to the following graduating seniors that achieved valadictorian. Owen Hemling, Britney Cop, Carter Kinsey, Khloe La, Darren Theal, Natalie Tits, and Mary's Walt. Additionally, congratulations to Abigail Gutnck for earning the distinction of celidatoran. And finally, Dinar and I would like to give thanks to the board for the opportunity to serve as student representatives this year and share the voices, experiences, and accomplishments of the student body. We truly appreciate the support and dedication that the board shows towards students and our school community. Thank you. >> Thank you very much.
Any questions for our student reps? So, I do have I do have one question for each of you. So, Dianara, what's what's next? >> Um, I'm going to WMadison to study political science. >> All right, Carter, >> I'm also going to WMadison to study finance. >> Very nice. Very nice. >> Well, we do have a couple things for the board. First of all, I have a certificate for both of you. The certificate reads, "In recognition and appreciation of serving is the 2526 student representative for the board of education signed by Mr. Dphano and myself." >> So that goes to you. >> Thank you. >> That goes to you, Carter. And then on behalf of the board, um, we have Make sure I get these right, too. Um, we have a thank you card uh with
the gift inside and by our own board member Joanne Taieski made you a nice hat to take you on to Wisconsin. >> Thank you. >> There you go. >> It matches my school >> for you, Carter. >> Thank you. >> And for you to take on to Wisconsin. >> Thank you. >> So, on behalf of the board, um we also want to thank you for being our student reps uh for this year. um your um insightfulness of the student body um has been very informative and we appreciate your time that you spend with us. So, thank you very much. >> All right, that will move us on to operations committee. >> I'm going to ask Oh, Ryan's up there. I was going to ask Mr. statute to uh present a summary on the transportation bid
process and recommendation in regard to transportation service contract. >> Sure. Thank you. So the first main bullet point that we went through at operations committee was the transportation RFP. Uh since operations we have uh finished the process. So I'm going to take you through kind of what that timeline looked like and then uh the recommendation for this evening. So, the timeline, the RFP was issued on March 17th. Uh, we did have, we took in questions from anyone that was interested in submitting an RFP. Um, we responded the to the questions on April 7th. The proposals were due April 15th. Uh, we reviewed them that following week and then brought that review to the operations committee. Um, out of that operations committee, we brought two companies in and interviewed them last week. and I have a
recommendation for board approval for this evening. Uh through that process, we did receive three proposals. Uh we and we held two interviews with with two different companies. Uh the third company, their proposal came in. It was not financially doable for us next year. So we we did not bring them in for interviews. And currently we are contracted with first student. Uh the last time we went through the RFP, we were contracted with Badger, who was acquired by First Student three years ago. So the cost comparison, uh First Students proposal came in with a 24.5% increase in year 1, a 12% increase in year two, and 4% each year after uh which would have a budget implication of approximately $400,000 in year one. uh go right way came in with a budget increase of approximately 10%
in for year one and an increase of the average CPI for January, February and March plus one in subsequent years. During today's world, it's impossible to estimate that based on only three data points, which is what we currently have for 2026. But if we took those data points, took a 5-year average of the variance in those data points, we'd be looking at roughly 3.63 going into next year. Now, wars, any other political climates can change that. So, I'm not going to commit to that right now, but I would anticipate in the 4% four to 5% in year 1 and slightly decreasing over the next four years. Uh this budget implication compared to our current rates would be approximately $196,000 for year one. Uh we did do a fleet comparison that was very important to us
throughout this RFP was seeing how we we had an older fleet that we're currently operating. uh first uh estimated or excuse me, first committed to seven new buses in year one, one in year two, and seven in year three, which would give us an average, a six-year average of our route buses in year one. uh go right way committed to 14 new buses in year one, nine new vans in year one, which would essentially give us a brand new fleet for that first year, excluding our extra buses, which are still used consistently, but not our normal route buses. So, the recommendation uh both companies stood out in the areas of safety, reliability, and technology. Uh that's pretty standard in the industry. Um, so there were no concerns from either company. There were no concerns based
on customer service of what we currently have with first student. This decision basically came down to to price. So um I am recommending that we contract with go rightway. That contract would be for three years with a 2-year option to add could take us out five years. Are there any questions with that? >> I just have two. Sure. >> Um, how does that impact our drivers? >> I know we talked about that committee. Could you just review that? >> Yeah. So, there's been a lot of discussion on that. Go Rightway has committed to um they they will interview they will go through their process. So, their employee kind of initiation process and and they will interview everyone, but they would like to hire everyone back. um when when these types of transitions take place, their
intention is to keep everyone hired and to keep everyone whole. So that that is what has been communicated is that they intend to hire everyone back that wants to come back and keep keep them whole financially and benefit wise to to the extent possible. And that's office staff, mechanics, and drivers. That includes everybody over at our station. they would continue to lease the co-op building. Um, as first students lease ends, they would they would assume that lease then and they've had discussions with the co-op on on that already. So, >> do we know offh hand um if we retain those employees how the benefits and pay I mean I don't know if we have that information but can we assume that it's similar the same or better? >> Yep. So, excuse me. So, they they
plan to keep all employees whole which would basically hourly pay the same, benefits the same or comparable. you know, it might look different in terms of how that pay happens. You know, there's some there's likely going to be some difference in holiday pay or vacation pay, but they they intend to keep every employee whole. >> The last question I had is uh what impact will will diesel presses have on our busing contract? So, with with the Go Rightway contract, um it's it it's it will be written in there that anything over $5 is split 5050. Up to $5, we we just have our normal contracting price. I'm hopeful that won't come into play as we start a new contract, but uh to be determined, >> but it's written in there, so there's an understanding. >>
There is an understanding of that. Yep. >> I want Uh so um first student took over for Badger. I mean did we have any was there any concerns brought to us from any of the employees at that point uh through that transition? I mean are these >> I I think anytime there's a change there's some concerns brought forward. Um, I can't speak to that directly because I kind of came in after that transition was already announced, but it it certainly makes people nervous. But I would say the transition was pretty pretty seamless from a driver um, and me working on the contract with the the the manager of the terminal there. Um, I think everybody has different processes and firsts are certainly different than Badger and likely will be different than than rightways, but um,
they adjust. Our team over there is excellent. They've done a really good job for a really long time and most of them have been through this transition before. So, I've been assured multiple times by the terminal manager over there not not to worry about it. And I think that I I think this is the right decision. >> Yeah. I mean, it's a significant cost savings. Uh so I can appreciate that and support that. >> Thank you. >> I make a motion that we go with uh go rightway the for contract for three years with an option to add an additional two years with the uh contract as presented. >> Second. >> All right. We have a motion and a second then to approve the transportation contract is presented. Uh roll call vote, please. >> Yes.
>> Thank you. >> Okay, Ryan, you might as well just stay up there. We we're going to talk about uh vehicle purchase requests. >> Yes. So the next item would be a request to purchase up to two vehicles prior to the end of the 2526 fiscal year. So our current budget, we have $50,000 in for solo depreciation equipment. Um any type of large vehicle, a large more expensive piece of equipment that we use. Um we have not spent any of that. So, I would be asking the board to move forward to allow us to move forward with purchasing a student transportation vehicle, which will be a van. Um, we have two aging vehicles that we discussed at operations uh that that need to be replaced. So, that would be the first request. The second request
would be to purchase an additional student transportation vehicle, likely another van, um with also trading in the 2011 Chevy Express maintenance van. Um both of these purchase would not exceed $50,000. Um that second purchase could occur later in the fiscal year, likely June, um middle to end of June, so it falls under this current budget. Um the first request would likely happen later this week. Uh it's recommended to approve these potential purchases and to give the administration the flexibility to make make that second purchase. And again, both these these new vehicles would replace the 2014 and 2017 Dodge minivans that are currently in our fleet and have I know one has over 200,000 and one has over 160 170,000 miles on them. questions. Otherwise, Marge, you want to bring the motion? >> I I move
that the board approve the potential purchases to give the administration the flexibility to make them prior to the end of the fiscal year as presented. >> Second. >> All right, we have a motion and a second then to approve the vehicle purchases as presented. Uh, roll call vote again, please. >> John, >> yes. Yes. >> Yes. I guess um I'm going to uh we want to talk about the referendum projects monthly update and I don't know if Joanna and John have anything to share first. um just a little bit. We met again this this uh last couple of weeks and uh they're building now. I mean, you can see it now when you drive by. There's a lot of stuff going going on that you can't see that's going in under the concrete. They're getting
in all the plumbing, uh the electrical electrical conduit. They're getting everything in that they need to and they're starting to pour sections of the building. I'm really excited to see it starting to come up and now they're going to put signage out there so that everybody driving by knows what's being built because there was rumor that it was a data center. It's not a data center. >> So, they're going to put a sign out there that says what it is. >> Uh we also started meeting a small team of people to start discussing furniture. There's a long way to go on that. We just had our first couple of discussions on that. So, that'll be an ongoing process as well. >> Joanne hit it hit the nail on the head. I have nothing to add
to it. >> Oh, okay. I don't know if Ryan has anything to add. >> I just I'll just add a few things. Um, >> so they're they're excavating at the middle school site. Uh, back filling at the completed foundation walls. As Joanne said, they're they are uh the masonry stair walls and actual walls are ongoing. We're going to see that for a while. Um, waterproofing foundation walls is still underway. uh fine grading for the concrete pour for the floor is underway and the structural steel is set to begin mobilizing this week. I believe it started today. So that's a big step forward there. Um at Washington, the new staff lounge is uh the final finishings are taking place. Uh the above ceiling inspections are taking place or have already taken place. And the final punch
list for this new the newest remodeled area is set to take place on May 21st. Um and then ongoing there's some student bathroom line remodeling going on that can be done while we still have kids in the building before the big push on June 8th starts after students and staff are out. As far as the district projects go, uh final landscaping is underway at the high school um and will be completed after the north parking lot has been um paved. Uh Lincoln and the the Lincoln and Prairie View site bids have been received. Uh we are going to be going through those bids this week. Um first initial look at those bids, they they look positive. They look like they're falling within our budget scope. Um, and just a reminder that those bids, CG Schmidt
takes those bids, they put them in a format that's apples to apples. Uh, we have a team of leadership that then goes through those bids. And there's a high emphasis on price for those bids, but there's also a high emphasis for community involvement and the number of employees that actually work in the Beaver Dam School District working on those projects. And we do ask those companies to commit to that. So there that that's a big factor when we're accepting these different bids. Um and then work on those sites will begin after students are dismissed for the summer. And then just reiteration with financing, um projected mill rate, we're still well below what we told the community prior to the referendum. Uh we're still at the 99 cents rather than the$120. Um, and then the district-wide
bids, we'll have that number by this report next month, but it's looking looking positive right now. >> Okay. >> I don't know if uh Troy's got anything to add or Mark. >> Got it all covered. Okay. Thank you. Um >> I guess the only other thing is to mention that the referendum projects monthly update is um is posted on the website if people would like to take a look at it if they haven't seen it before. So >> all right, thank you Marge. >> Uh just a reminder, no committee meetings uh this month. We have a workshop next week and then we'll uh go back to committee meetings in June. So with that, we'll turn it over to teaching and learning. >> Oh, you start with Miss Hemlings or do you want me to read
the minutes first? >> Start with minutes if you want. >> Okay, I'll start with the minutes. Meeting of teaching and learning committee of the board of education was held on April 27th here at the ESC beginning at 5:30. The board members present were myself and Heather Schultz and there was no one absent. Dr. White, director of human resources, presented a proposed calendar for the 2728 school year. School year begin on August 31st and end on June 1st. The purpose of the early start date is to allow for more flexibility for school sites that will be under construction during the summer months as well as offset some transportation costs. The district will need to apply for a waiver from the Wisconsin Department of Instruction to start early. It is anticipated this would be approved based on
the precedent and allowable reasons for a waiver. The calendar will be presented for board action at the May board business meeting which we saw. Miss Hemling uh secondary teaching and learning coordinator provided additional information and context regarding the cooperative academic partnership program cap chemistry course proposal at that that the committee had previously tabled. CAP chemistry is designed as a dual credit alternative to AP chemistry. She shared school report card data, AP and dual credit enrollment data, and an overview of cap versus AP. Key considerations include the high impact that the high school leadership transition may have on program decisions and a future review of current funding practices for AP exams and dual credit tuition. Miss Hamling provided an update also on the 2526 curriculum review cycle and outlined upcoming instructional resource approvals and course guide
revisions. The district continues implementation of a structured six-year curriculum review cycle to ensure all content areas are regularly evaluated for alignment, instructional effectiveness, and resource sustainability. She reviewed content area updates including costs. Curricular resources will be presented at the board meeting for action. Sorry, presented for action at the Bay May business meeting which will happen here in a minute. The next committee meeting is scheduled for June 22nd. Yep. And I just have some updates. Um so um what was posted for you I just have some updated costs. So I just want to update to you compared to what we had at committee. Um so it's uh CTE which is career technical education world language digital literacy um secondary ELA high school math K8 intervention math intervention and K12 SEAL which is social emotional learning. A
few updates was with world language. Um we decided to go from a six-year quote down to a three-year quote. Um we also looked at a one-year quote but the three-year quote was a better price. Uh this will give um teachers the opportunity to have some online um opportunities for their students uh with their textbook, but then after three years we can gauge whether if they're using it a lot versus paying for six years of it. They will definitely get work uh their textbooks regardless. Um but that was a one purchase item. Um the next one we have updated uh ELA costs uh for the sec uh for the middle school level. Um, and that one's just geared in more to um, the exact uh, enrollment that we're going to have next year. Um, for math,
high school math, um, they were doing a pilot using as their, um, uh, credit recovery program. Uh, that just recently wrapped up and they discovered that EXL might not be the best choice for them and they want to continue with Alex, which is what we've currently used in the past. it uh is paired up with the textbook that they're going to be using which is reveal. Um so I had go back to the company and just ask for a quote to add Alex um so those students would have it for their credit recovery. So that cost was updated there. Um overall with all those changes um the curricular resource cost went down 24,500 and then my recommendation is for approval for these resources for next year. Are there any questions? Anybody have any questions? Otherwise,
if not, uh, Mary, you want to bring a motion? >> Yeah, I I No questions. I move that we approve the curriculum resources as presented. >> Second. >> All right. We have a motion and a second then to approve the curriculum res curriculum resources as presented. I'll ask for a roll call vote again. >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> All right. That moves us on to 9.4. Board engagement and recognitions. opportunity for the board to share out any engagement opportunities or recognitions they have. So, with that, I'll turn it over to the board. >> Um, I did attend the wall of fame. That was my first time. Um, was nice to see my classmate and friend Dave Senator up there accepting for the theater. Um, just a a great night overall. Uh this last weekend
I did see the middle school play and it was pretty fun. Um they have a good time up there. Um and then I went to the marching band concert that was a couple weeks ago and went to the last home tennis tournament this weekend. So there's a lot of stuff going on, a lot of opportunities right now. I uh had a chance to go to the greenhouse. Um, it's opening weekend and they had a I went on day two and there were a lot of plants gone already. So, it looks like they had a good year. I heard them say they planted a lot more because last year I think they sold out in a day. I have kept those plants alive under my control for two weeks now. So, it's a successful successful season
so far. >> Your farming background's coming. >> My farming background strong. But congratulations. That was really wellrun and they um they look like they put a lot of work in. So, it's always nice to go to the greenhouse. >> I went to the um the wall of fame ceremony as well, though. That was the first time I've ever been there. Um that was just a very wonderful event. I really enjoyed my time there. Uh we got to celebrate Mr. Gary Spielman, um which was great. Um we got to celebrate the theater, um which you know, my son is involved in the theater and I can't say enough good things about that community theater. Um so, very welld deserving. And then uh Mr. Kaki um who's was well deserving of his award as well. And uh
just a big shout out to our friends at Taher. They put on a big spread. Lot of lot of good food there. Uh dessert stole the show though. There was four or five different options and I I only had one though. So >> restraint. >> Yeah. But it was really really good. So big shout out to those folks. >> I was trying to figure out how you were going to fit food into that conversation. But you did a nice job. >> Yeah. Thanks. They did a nice job too. So I was really impressed. >> I too was at the wall of fame. In fact, um Bill Lake and I were had nominated Gary Spielman >> and so we had to give a little bit of uh reason why and everything like that. So it it
was Gary was really he was very happy. Uh, I think he was a little embarrassed thinking we were giving him too much credit for stuff, but uh, he's always been involved with with school and he he I think he would have loved to have been a teacher himself, but uh, his sons have are teachers and uh, Gary did whatever he could to read with kids, do anything like that. So, it was really great. It was a real good wall of fame. >> I was at the wall of fame as well and I echo these comments and just want to add that it's just very honoring to those who are recipients of those awards and thanks to Mary for all her work that she does putting that together. >> All right, any other comments? >> I
was at the wall of fame, too. Um, I had nominated the community theater, um, which has been around for about 62 years. 60 62 years. Um, and I was surprised that that was the first time the community theater was nominated. So, um was very glad to see a volunteer nonprofit organization receive that friend of education for their service to the district and to education um both for adults and children. A lot of our faculty are very involved um in the band and the community theater. So, it's wonderful for them to have a an outlet to participate in outside of the teaching that they're sharing um with our students. and then also had the pleasure of attending uh the marching band concert, the concert band concert, the concert choir concert, and I hope to see you
all at 7:30 at the ac capella concert on this coming Friday. Thanks to Mr. Richard for all your sound support at all of those concerts. One thing I wanted to add, I um uh the the workshops that we put on all the time are are very worthwhile and um I looking forward to the next one, whatever we might have. Um, but uh you're right, the uh everything turned at the wall of fame and different things. There's a lot of stuff going on there. And um at the Beaverdam area orchestra concert recently, we had Ryan Belangei, who was a an alumna alumnus of the Beaverdam School District, performed and he is an opera tener uh based out of Chicago and he performed for the Beaverdam area orchestra and it was just fantastic. So, you never know
what you're going to get and it's a great group of kids that have moved forward on all kinds of things and uh the school district can be proud of that. >> Yeah. >> I would just I would like to just publicly welcome Emily Sh uh to the board. First official meeting tonight and uh look forward to working with you over the next uh three years. >> Thank you. Likewise. >> All right, Mark. Yeah, last week was uh teacher appreciation week and I know that um uh many of our um staff were celebrated in a variety of ways. So, obviously the board um and myself and all of our administrators really appreciate them and all the work that they do. They are the heartbeat of what's going on on behalf of our kids every day. Uh,
but I really also want to thank um um not just the principles but also PTO's, parents, other people that do a variety of things to help support what goes on for for teachers um all year and definitely during teacher appreciation week. And I know that um Carter and Dianara covered it very very well, all the things going on and many of those things are focused on seniors. But uh just want to congratulate uh the senior class of 2026. will get to do that formally I think on May 31st. Um but a great class uh deserving of a lot of things and we really appreciate them and um Mr. Casper's uh bringing us the slate of graduates so the board can officially approve that and we can move forward and get some diplomas taken care of
and all that but uh that is the pinnacle of what we do in K12 education. So it's important that we celebrate you guys as well. Looking forward to graduation. >> All right. Yeah. I move the board recess into close session pursuant to Wisconsin statute 19.85 PN1 parn C considering employment promotion compensation performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility specific to discuss specific employees employee groups and negotiation strategy. >> Second. >> All right. Motion a second to move into close session. Ask for a roll call vote, please. >> Yes. >> All right. We will move into close session and be back shortly to reconvene to finish business. All right, Mark or Mary. Good. >> All right. Uh, we are back in open session. We'll move on
to 12 district policy and guidelines with 12.1 resignations, retirements. >> We have one resignation for your consideration tonight. I move the board approve the resignation as presented. >> Second. >> All right, we have a motion and a second to approve the resignation is presented. All in favor say I. >> I. >> All those not, same sign. >> There are several leaves of absence for your consideration this evening. >> I move the board approve the leaves of absence as presented. >> Second >> motion a second to approve the leaves of absence as presented. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Not. Same sign. Okay. >> All right. I have a slate of appointments for your consideration tonight. Uh roll call vote, please. >> Yes. >> All right, that moves us on to 12.2 to final notice of non-renewal. >> I'm requesting your approval
of a final notice of non-renewal for Emily Kaditz. >> I move the board approve the final notice of non-renewal as presented. >> Second. >> All right. We move a motion and second to approve the final notice of non-renewal as presented. All in favor say I. >> I. >> All those not same sign. >> Thank you. >> All right. So we're asking for your approval to certify the graduates. We can continue to move pro uh forward with our
exciting graduation planning. I'll move to certify the 2026 graduates. Second. >> All right, we have a motion and a second for certification of the 2026 graduates. All in favor say I. >> I. >> All those not. Same sign. >> All right. Moves us on to other business.
