Well, hello and welcome to our fifth grade band and orchestra concert. Uh, the first tune that the fifth grade band played was Cardiff by the Sea. And our next tune is going to be Hot Cross Buns. And for this tune, we had quarter notes in our in our song in addition to half notes and whole notes. >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [singing] [music] [applause] All right, our next tune is Oclair DLoon and we add more quarter notes with this with this piece in addition to half notes and whole notes and more uh different note combinations to to make to make this tune. So, Oclair DLoon is next. Heat. Heat.

[music] >> [applause] >> All right. Next is Merrily We Roll Along or Mary had a little lamb. And for this one, we learned a new musical symbol which was the repeat sign. So we play the first eight bars and we repeat back to the beginning and we play it again. So [snorts] next is merrily we roll along Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. >> [applause] [applause] >> All right, our next piece is entitled Lightly Row. And this is the first tune where we've been well all of the tunes that we've been playing up to this point have the same music for uh for everyone. And this is the first tune that we're going to play which is our first duet. So there's an A line which is a melody line and there's a B line which

is a harmony line. So raise your hand if you're playing the A line. Raise your hand if you're playing the B line. All right. So we're going to have we're going to have two different notes going on for each one of the beats at the same time. So here's lightly row. Heat. [music] Heat. [music] >> [applause] >> All right. Right. And we have one more tune which we're going to play twice because for good king Wesless our last tune we learned uh solo soleie which um solie meaning a a small group within the band is going to play um and then 2T which is everybody playing. So the first time we're going to play this we're going to play this all together all eight bars and then the second time we're going to play it

we're going to have a group of people play the sole section. So on the second time raise your hand if you're playing on the sole section. All right. Awesome. So, here's So, here's our final tune. This is Good King Wesless again. We're going to play this one twice. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [applause] >> [applause] >> Heat. Heat. [music] >> [applause] [applause] >> Hi guys. What? I can't believe Thank Okay. This way. We're going to Thank you. What's Further forward, Mrs. Taylor, >> let this a little closer. >> Oh, yeah. Maybe A G [music] >> [music] >> All right, welcome to the orchestra portion of tonight's concert. We are going to start with um a song you heard the band play, but they played it in the key of B flat. We're going to play it

in five different keys, none of which are B flat, so it's like a totally different song. Um so we're going to I called this one five batches of hot cross buns because we burned two of them. And your um goal is to see if you can figure out which two we burned. One, one, two, three, go. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Thank you. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Let's go. [music] >> [music] [applause] >> Um, if you've ever been part of uh the orchestra program, As I've been here, um you'll find that I really enjoy teaching and having the kids play fiddle tunes. Um it's one of those things where if they go other places in the world and want to bring their instruments, fiddle tunes are something that um a lot of people around

the world are going to be playing. So this is their first fiddle tune. This is called Boil and Cabbage Down. We're going to play it first um just the tune as is and then we have a little rhythmic variation that we'll play the second time around. And then um we kind of ran out of time, but a few of the kids learned a tag, a little special ending that um that they will add on to the end of this one. One, two, let go. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] >> One, two, ready, go. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] >> It's time to red go. [music] [applause] >> [applause] >> Well, thanks everybody for coming out. This is always so exciting for them to have their very first

um orchestra concert on this big stage. And uh they've been working really hard getting up in the morning. I know that that is not always the easiest thing to do, getting your kids up and and going in the morning. Um, but I always tell them that the good news is is that they are getting good practice for when they're in middle school and that's when they have to be there anyway, right? So, they're they're a year ahead. Um, so our final two pieces um are ones that make good use out of just our open strings. So, one thing that we first learn on our string instruments is we learn each of the four open strings and we practice reading a lot of those. The songs you heard at the beginning um added fingers on each

of those strings. We actually learned we've actually learned how to play 20 different notes um in since the beginning of our time together. But this these last two songs use um just a just two or three of our open string notes. And um yeah, so we we'll move on along with Sarinata and then finish off with Witches Brew, which um according to my former students, I have to teach every year forever. So [laughter] All set. [music] Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [applause] >> [snorts] >> do not drink the riches. Heat. [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] >> Square 3. [applause]
