Today we celebrate 103 years of Disney magic and the music that helped make that magic happen. Everyone knows a Disney song when they hear it. From the Ballad of Davy Crockett to Let It Go, a Disney song is as recognizable as Mickey Mouse! Mickey Mouse! ALL RIGHT, WE GET IT. WHEN WALT Disney died in 1966, but the legacy he created lives on and on in the movies, stage shows, television, and recordings that bear his name. Join us as we explore the music

of Disney yesterday and today. Mickey Mouse! >> [music] [music] [screaming] [music] [screaming] [music] [applause] >> The first full-length animated movie that Walt Disney produced was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The original fairy tale was written by the Brothers Grimm. It became a Disney film in 1938. Walt Disney was awarded an honorary Oscar at the 11th Academy Awards, where he received one large Oscar along with seven little Oscars. Our own dwarfs are coming in now. We dig in a mine the whole day through. We dig because that's what we like to do. There ain't no trick to get rich quick if you dig with a shovel or a pick. In our mine where we dig and shine. We dig We dig for rubies more than We dig up everything in sight. We dig up diamonds

by the score, a thousand rubies, maybe more. And we don't know what we need them for, we just dig and dig. >> [applause] [music] [applause] >> In 1940, the Walt Disney production company brought us the animated film Pinocchio. The story of a of a man named Geppetto who wished upon a star that the puppet that he had made would become a real boy. The Blue Fairy appeared that same night and granted Geppetto's wish showing us all that dreams do come true. When you wish upon a star or when a star is born it possesses a gift or two. One of them is they have the power to make a wish come true. As I live and breathe, it's a fairy. Thank you, Geppetto. You have given so much good to others. You deserve to have

your wish come true. Little wooden puppet made of pine, awake the gift like this time. I can move. I can walk. I can talk. Am I real? No, Pinocchio. To make Geppetto's wish come true will be up to you. Up to me? Prove you're brave, honest, and true. Someday you'll be a real boy. A real boy? It won't be easy, but I'll help you along. >> [applause] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [applause] >> Walt Disney knew the power of music to make his movies come alive. He once said there's a terrific power to music. You can run any of these pictures and they'll be jerky and boring, but the minute you put music behind them, they have life to ballet. They don't get any other way. Never more was that more true than in classic

movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, and the incredible Peter Pan. When the music plays your heart takes wing and whether you have ever tried or not, you believe it you believe it's possible to fly and you know that you never want to grow up. Boys, this is Wendy. Wendy, will you be our mother? Very well. I would love to be the mother provided you will be the father. All right. As As long as we don't make believe. Oh, look, a cake. Children, I'm sure this cake is way too damp and rich for you. She's a lousy mother. No, she's not. Peter, it's your responsibility to teach your children daily lessons as a good father. Very well. I'll do my best. I'll do my best. Knock it off, you pest. We have to

listen to Peter and our new mother. Thank you, Cubby. After we're all set to finish my story of Cinderella. A story, ALL RIGHT. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. Are you ready for today's lesson? Yes, sir. We're ready. Then listen to your father repeat after me. >> [music] >> I won't [singing] grow up. I won't grow up. I don't want to go to school. I don't want to go to school. Just [singing] to learn to [music] be a parent. Just to learn to be a parent. And decide to be cool. And decide [music] to be cool. Growing up is a pain. It makes my >> [music] >> brain hurt. But she won't grow up, never grow up, never grow >> [music] >> Not me. Not me. >> [music] >> I won't grow up. I don't want to wear

a tie. I don't want to wear a tie. I want to be serious. >> [music] >> I want to be serious. In the middle of >> [music] >> July. You make me want to scream. >> [music] >> You make me I won't grow up, never grow up. Not me. Not I. >> [music] >> Not me. So there. Never going to be a man. I won't. I won't try. It makes me turn I won't try. It >> [music] >> makes me turn to I [music] won't grow I won't grow up. I'm not a fairy. >> [music and singing] >> I'm not a I'm not a fairy. I'm not a >> [music] >> Growing [singing] up is a pain. And [music] all the awful things that ever were. I'll never [singing] grow up. >> [music] >> Not

me. Not I. Not me. So there. >> [music] [applause] >> Risers, please. Risers, please. >> Testing. Testing. In 1989, the music of The Little Mermaid won the Academy Award for the best musical score. One of the most memorable songs in that film was is sung by Sebastian, the crab. Why not? It's Disney. As the crab sings of the wonderful life one can live under the sea, we are again reminded of the magic of a Disney song. What's up with her lately? Oh, she's got it bad. Isn't obvious she's in love? Ariel's too young to be in love. We better go tell Daddy. Okay, so far so good. I don't think he knows, but we won't be able to keep something like this a secret for long. He loves me. Mhm. Loves me not. He loves

me. I knew it. Ariel, stop talking crazy. I got to see him again tonight. Get on those waves. There you are, Ariel. Daddy's looking for you. He's not too happy. You're in trouble. Forget that human boy. Yeah, you're down here and he's up there. Ariel, please. Will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where you belong? Life down here is our home. Listen to me. The human world's a mess. >> [music] [music] [singing] [music] [music and singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [applause] [music] [applause] >> Testing. Testing. Mary [clears throat] Poppins and Bert like to teach the Banks children new lessons every day. One of them is that their problems are never so big that they can't handle them, and there are always people there to help

them along the way. Chimney sweeps are some of those people who can bring you good luck. Well, everything looks so small up here. And what does that tell you? That we are very, very small and unimportant. Oh, speak for yourself. Not as much as our troubles. They seem so big up here, but down in the nursery. That's more like it. Troubles are not so big if you look at them from a little higher up. And always remember that there are plenty of folk who are there if you need them. Who? Guardian angels you don't often see. But look, here they are. Testing. Testing. >> [music] >> Chimney sweeps. [singing] >> [music] [music] [singing] [music] [applause] >> And if you ever after watching Walt Disney's movie Mary Poppins and you felt supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, then you know the

On the contrary, there's very good. Am I right, Bert? Tell me what it is, Mary. Right, say it with me, Bert. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. >> [applause] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [music and singing] [music] [singing] [applause] [music] [applause] >> Testing, testing, testing. Luckily, Simba meets two new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who help him to realize that sometimes in life you just have to say Hakuna Matata and move on. So, where are you from? Who cares? I can't go back. You're an outcast like us, kid. What did you do, kid? Don't want to talk about it. Good, we don't hear about it. Come on, Timon, anything we can do? Not unless you can change the past. When the world

turned on you, you turn your back on the world. That's not what I was taught. Maybe you need a lesson. Repeat after me. Hakuna Matata. Hakuna water? Hakuna Matata means no worries. Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase. Hakuna Matata means no passing craze. >> [applause] [music] [singing] [music] [applause] [music] [applause] >> Testing. Testing.
