i was holding a flex it's a gas line it's covered with plastic and it flexes so to move it back you have to hold the cut the plastic bag i'm holding it down here he's cutting up here and don't ask me how he we were this far away a lot of trust what am i doing i'm like why i'm like that's your buddy not your body [Laughter] i'm going yeah that's a black stage we are live and i'm here at 6 42 so i will call the monday february 7th meeting the dragon community school district board of education to order please subscribe public notice let's stand for the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god

indivisible congrats here hermansen here maguire chilling sigma here wolf here silver feeler here it is both of special appearance is there any present who'd like to address the board we'll move on to item four adoption of the agenda second by hermansen second by zebra dealer is there any discussion seeing none all those in paper signify by saying aye that motion passes item five is approval of minutes from our january 17th meeting and february first meeting second by chris to approve the minutes is there any discussion see none all those in favor signify by saying aye aye [Music] opposed auction passes item six is a treasurer's report see that attached in board book is there any comments or questions on the treasures report scene none we'll move on to item seven discussion and action regarding wellness

club fundraiser project so we have some visitor students here to present to us we just want to thank you for allowing us to take our ski trip to sonoma um we gained a lot of valuable life skills and memories uh and over six or 65 students attended the trip and over 50 of them that was their first time going so that was pretty cool and experience for them um with some experiences students would step out of their comfort zones and tackle new challenges so we're hoping to provide more opportunities like this in the future so that we can continue to push ourselves and finally we received this message uh jan haberland stopped in she told us that her husband runs the rental department at sundown mountain and she stopped in to personally tell us how

good our students were on wednesday and her husband said he works at a lot of schools and he hasn't had a school that was respectful and like a styling tip so she just wanted to let us know that so it's pretty cool that someone came all that way to give us that message so we just want to thank you again for letting us see that and then i know that you guys might have it it's on the list but if you guys want me to i have letters to pass them if you guys want them that discusses different fundraising evidence [Music] okay well we are like we stated before we're like a self-funded club so we're really looking for donations and this letter just kind of runs through some items that we would really like

to receive but we're just looking for approval to add this like letter to the darlington like facebook so we can get shares on it and then we can have donations sent in and some them just talk about how we're like a new up-and-coming club so we really don't have that much money and to get some of the stuff that we want to like our coffee which is going to fund a lot for us we need the money to buy the supplies for that and i know judith has a 5k in mind that she'll talk about later but if we get that approved we'd like to donations for that too and that's just that yeah i don't know if you want so like in each of the paragraphs it kind of discusses different like opportunities for

fundraising judith mentioned or excuse me neil mentioned about judah 5k and that could serve as a fundraiser not only to then put back into the club but then also um as a way for the club itself to support any other community local needs elsewhere um and then yeah there's some like hygiene items and then i think it mentions in the next page yeah the coffee club which would then also be set up through um to try to fund through a donor's choose which uh i think it's ready but it's not active yeah and so again weigh in on the discussion here tonight so the different committees that are happening um looking to fundraise not only for the group but then also to put back into the community in different ways throughout the years paragraphs outline

those different ideas so this coffee thing would start with teachers first and then possibly expand that's kind of our thought process right now maybe the first what like week or so just to work out the kinks yeah and you could even do it whether it's teachers or whether it's like monday is uh just for seniors tuesday is just for juniors so that you're not trying to field everybody at once because it's not like we have that much this is like fancy coffee i'm just asking if i don't drink coffee and i don't know many high schoolers that drink coffee so it must be fancy coffee it's just gonna be like like not because all of our teachers pretty much have pure eggs but i know that you imagine that keurigs aren't as the k-cups aren't

as good as like normal coffee there are other schools that are doing this and it's going overbearing real well but again that's like long range and a short like initial step we're just gonna start with yeah all right so i was going to talk about the nutrition cafe that we're just talking about we have a something called a donor's choose page setup which is essentially asking for donations online and we just wanted to communicate that with you guys to make sure we're not missing any rules or make sure that's something we can start um it would be promoted through like our personal like our personal social media accounts and we're ready to move forward but we just need approval before we do that so so i guess that's kind of also why we're asking for

like this letter to be approved that we can post on the darlington facebook page just so we can like share it and really expand it you know when you're saying letter are you are you referring to this yeah we're just gonna copy and paste it on the facebook how are you receiving these donations so do you guys have i mean is it just like cash donations or do you guys have a venmo set up or do you have an account at the high school so i mean we can make it like checks out to the is it this alpha problem but i know that since we have the donors choose them um they can just donate like right through that okay yeah and then we'll add the link to that on the post so then

it's like really easy and i'll make sure to say like make checks out too whatever we end up having yeah so we plan to do a 5k run and walk and this is to promote uh health overall just kind of to get students moving uh from all ages all the way from kindergarten on up or middle if they want to uh we have different courses set out there will be a 5k and then for younger students uh there will be a smaller loop the garbage loop or the track is available we'll just have them run uh probably a mile or run walk whatever they choose around the track and then we plan to help promote this through the radio uh hopefully putting an ad through donations and other stuff like that uh to get the

word around uh through the rj and we also plan to have t-shirts that's how i kind of run uh raise money for this that'll be the fee for this and then along with free will donations uh this will take place on march 12th it is a saturday at 8 am at high school we are planning to request for the gym to use the facility and for prizes uh we're thinking of doing maybe like since our theme is going to be a shamrock shuffle for st patrick's day we're planning to do uh like a public hold like the little candy chocolate candies for the winners overall so it is a community event yes not just for my it can be for all surrounding communities not just the darlington school district to communicate belmont shellsburg also so

the funds that you raise they're helping me through the office then or do you have a designated treasurer in your club or how do you manage the funds yeah we have a designated treasurer and if anything i mean we have our advisors to help us through this but we have an account for alpha 2 so i mean i guess we'll just work through that we have a pre-registration form set up uh so we're hoping to post that on the facebook page along with having that link and to the darlington uh community school home page as well is the 5k gonna have a 50 and over division no this is for all ages just promote getting active [Music] and then the last item i think to one of the other committees that we were looking at

setting up and this is really in its infancy stage is like a um a podcast that we would have co-hosted by potentially max and mila and then in that podcast committee we would focus on the monthly wellness theme whether it be physical wellness mental wellness emotional wellness those are kind of rotated throughout the month and then in the committee additionally there'd be subcommittees where you have different people that are working on writing some of the interview questions some of the people that would be looking to line up different people in the community or the school that are more experts in that field of whatever the monthly focus is you have a couple other people that are doing some research based so there's different avenues within the podcast committee that kind of help build and like

perpetuate the entire platform i guess so that's that's in the works too i don't really know what the um like the stipulations of that since it's more of like a the entire school or district if there's ramifications or like parameters or things that need to be said on that so we welcome any input or feedback on the limitations or the go ahead that we would have on a podcast as well what's that i don't like it from that kind of stuff i think we do we've never asked about a podcast yeah um and when you say post on the facebook you mean the darlington facebook darlington school facebook page i don't know with that i mean have we shared like fundraising requests from other groups on the facebook page typically not in the past no

i don't know if we've had requests and told anyone no i mean i think it's all great we should do it um some of those details we might have to talk about so then our other fundraising requests just posted through that loca that organization's facebook page or instagram page yeah i would think so i mean i guess i'm trying to remember if i've seen things posted on the school's facebook page like from that that's the favorite questions i don't think we have have we we don't have many organizations we don't have any groups that are run internally like this yeah you look a lot of the fundraisers are done through touchdown club oops club ffa alumni you know so i know what you're saying but this is kind of unique because like i said this

is a completely internal uh group you know yeah i'm having no issue with it but i mean i'm not so sure all of our parents and whatever actually know about the group really do they i mean we really come out on our facebook page it might be a good idea to start by introducing what it is that's what i would say before you go out and post [Music] tell them what you're about what you're doing and then come out with this later you know you know whether it's two weeks later or whatever just so they know what the organization actually is and what you're about you know what i mean i think this is all a good idea and we talked about you know some things are posting but do we butt up against any

other policies and with some of this that you know i mean the fundraising thing has always been you can always find issues with fundraising in different groups but i mean that's right this is like 100 internal where all of those at least have some external component to them so it's a little easier to say this is a special category because the money raised goes back into things for you guys and trips for the students and maybe something like that it's for a profit or something like that it's put back into the school it's managed as an activities account i mean well we don't call them activities but every sport has an activity account where the money has to be spent back on the students you know my track activity account i can't use that to

send me and my coaches to the clinic it's got to be equipment or something for the kids so so walk us through that so the club has x amount of dollars and they want to spend it on this what's the approval process for that uh the approval process has always been advisor administrator for the activity stuff so and for me example if i want to get something from letterman's club which you know pays for all the letterman awards and stuff like that rich and i both sign off on it you know and essentially that's the process we check make sure there's money in it make sure that it's something that that account should be used for and then from there it goes okay all right well i'll make a motion to approve the plan as

described tonight a second by wolf second by armington is there any further discussion can we get a picture of max on skis [Laughter] was there none taken up here all right any other discussion see none of those in favor signify by saying all right any opposed passes thanks guys thanks guys okay item eight discussion action regarding donations eight a k long would like to donate hats mittens gloves and socks to by dems second by chris to approve with our thanks is there any discussion none all those in favor signify by saying aye aye any opposed motion passes 8b grace lutheran church would like to donate hats mittens gloves and socks to thems i want you to approve and thank them second motion by grad secretary chris to approve with our thanks is there any discretion

see none all those in favor signify by saying aye the opposed function passes hc gloria boldman would like to donate fifty dollars in piggly wiggly gift cards to the dems rosie bags program motion to approve and thank her second i got second by chris to approve with our thanks is there any discussion seeing none all those in favor signify by saying aye aye passes item nine discussion and action regarding resignation of kovid custodian lorraine z is uh resigning her position the emotional proof second british mike ritz second by to approve any discussion are you going to have to postpone that yeah we are middle school actually any further discussion [Music] item 10 discussion and action regarding student transfer to an alternative school in mineral point this would be a student at the high school the

student and the parents are in agreement that this would be a good the high school administration and the guidance department reviewed the request and and the cost involved and are recommending it that's a good idea like emotional improvement is this effective immediately yeah okay exciting second by zoomer dealer to approve putting down all those in favor signify by saying hi motion passes 11 discussion action regarding the 22 23 school year calendar a group of teachers under the category of meet and confer met with the board uh representatives earlier to talk about the calendar and i think we're all in agreement the committee is recommending that we approve the proposed calendar for next year i think attach it in board book be very similar to this year number of days and and the scheduling of things

the two points that we talked about most at the committee meeting were when to have the three in-service days and the teacher represented us put a survey out to the teachers and went with what they recommended for that schedule and we made one little tweak as far as going to school an extra day before christmas break and then having a day off on monday the january 2nd after the break so the number of days stayed the same we shifted one of the days like a motion to prove the 22-23 school second rush by hermansen second by grads to approve the calendar for any discussion done all those in favor signify by saying aye [Music] unable to make it tonight so i think lori's gonna talk about the dims update and then also in the high

school she got from him let me do that next year okay so if you look at the dems for february 7th so total positive cases this year in the dumbest building is at 100. the week of january 24th we had a larger number of cases we had 13 positives which created 84 close contacts the following week we had two positives currently we have one positive case and that quarantine actually ends today um individuals currently consider close contacts at school to recent positives uh we have eleven wednesday will be their last day of quantum um close contacts to positives right now we have zero that we know of we we are not doing the rapid testing at school as we don't have those and then individuals quartering at home view the symptoms or exposure that we

know of there positive student 113 student had been at home six zero students traced us close contacts positive student on january 20th semester exams limited number of students students were spaced more than six feet apart zero students traced us close contacts positive students january 21st 13 students traced us close contacts four masks remained at school positive student from another district at a school event january 30th two students have been traced as close contacts to an outside contact at a school event where mass remained at school outside exposure january 31st two students traced this post contacts outside of school warmass remained at school outside exposure 131 two students have been traced as close contacts outside of school before asking when they go to school so that is nvhs i guess the only thing i got as

far as the matrix goes where we stand right now in the county and what have you i would like to honestly get rid of the contact tracing um that's where i'm at i would that's my feeling i'd make it back up exactly what you're saying i mean there's no positive there's no positive cases right now and we've moved forward with going to the five days based on the cdc's recommendation if the health department says that they're saying contract tracing is no longer expected or required for every coveted case according to the letter i mean i think we need to start moving forward that step in all reality i guess with no contact tracing um that would mean i guess obviously a lot of people's problem is with contact tracing is we only have the test

two tests and whether or not they have to wear a mask yet but there's no contact tracing those individuals wouldn't have to wear a mask either um i guess that's where i'm at with it i guess um i would like to i guess i would make a motion to adjust the matrix to no contact tracing um at this time i think that'd be a step we keep the matrix um but we take that step out of it second i think to then contact jason discussion i agree with my i think it's in a step but i think it's a step in the right direction i think it's i think it comes to a point where i think as a society we're we're probably going to wind up living with covet for a long time and

like with all the reporting and and i'm not trying to make light of anything and i might have anything that's going on but i'm just not sure if the daily reporting the daily tracing all that is really at this point is doing any good or if it's harming more things so [Music] the only question i have is what does that do for you pat as far as extracurricular i would wager very little it's really a don't ask don't tell scenario nobody's asking anybody what they're doing um i haven't had a single a.d contact me probably since december about kobe protocols anything like that so i had every team in our conference last week at the wrestling tournament big swollen small small and there isn't one team that was wearing a mask or forced to wear

a mask you know what i'm saying so that's our complete swallow small small biggest wall everybody's got a team in the wrestling tournament so it's and quite frankly we're approaching winter tournament season i nobody's gonna nobody is going to not play us a year ago maybe at this point everyone's kind of rolling rolling things back it's just a matter of what extent so so as far as i guess red then so it's what you're recommending is no masks then still staying with the matrix but really there is no matrix then correct at this point we'd still be keeping the matrix i guess um i don't know if that makes us feel good or what um [Music] there may be something in there as far as like a student has multiple symptoms comes in the office

and says we don't have these tests but i can't taste anything and i'm coughing so let me ask you symptomatics that's that's my question so if you get a kid that comes or you have a teacher that suspects some kid is sick are we still sending those kids home or we with the matrix we would be and it's not related to contact racing you come in with simple questions i would assume we'd be doing basically the same thing if all we've done previously some kids got the flu and he's not feeling good okay you know he's trying to send them all you know i mean call us parents you know and at some point at some point parents have to be responsible for their kids too if they're if they're sick they shouldn't be sending

them to school but we are still doing the um going by the health department's coveted symptoms if you have these two symptoms for this one symptom then are you guys getting much flack from parents if you're calling them saying hey your kids take not kill more i think most people have injuries okay are you seeing a lot of kids coming to school sick um coming to school actually sick yeah to start the day i mean obviously they had a lot of kids that are obviously as they get as the day progresses and they don't feel good a couple weeks ago it seemed like we have a lot of kids coming to school safe you know i mean if we're not doing tracy i'm just trying to help you out i mean do we need to

do these anymore the surveys that you and rich are doing i mean i don't if we're not doing contact tracing obviously right you can do that but i mean however i just if you're not contact tracing i mean half this is about how many how much contact tracing and something like that you know it would still be nice to know the numbers you sent home with symptoms yeah sure i have no idea what i'm saying as far as like tracing and all that you know so we have an idea of numbers and obviously if things would change we'll be back in two weeks and we can adjust this back to whatever i mean i think i think it's important though guys the only people that i would say and i don't know if we have

any we're not privy to that information would be kids that have recognized the answer correct i think it's i think it's pretty crucial that we do if there is a report that that kid has been around somebody i think that that's that's vital but other than that i i don't have a problem with it i mean those would be the ones that i think we would need to be concerned about and i think that the county didn't touch on that as you know you know compromised individuals they still should be contact raised so yeah any further discussion we've known all those in figures you know i've been saying all right [Music] discussion and action regarding the title yeah the typical process for approving a new policy is we go to the committee and have a

couple of readings we just have a situation recently became aware of here where i'm going to ask we can just implement a revised title 9 policy tonight in one step uh touching board book for you to review but i could answer questions now if i have questions about it i think we have to to be compliant with statute so definitely yes i'll make emotional proof second take away two readings mentioned by chris second by zuma bealer to waiver to reading policy and approve the title nine policy tonight further discussion team none all those in favor signify by saying aye aye opposed auction passes item 14 discussion action regarding dems cafeteria project infrastructure committee met prior to this meeting and i guess we still have some questions to answer so save that for next time unless

there's something anyone wants to talk about bond item 15 then discussion action regarding 2223 dea salaries the negotiations committee the board met with the teacher representatives what they came up with and it's agreed on by both sides is teachers will get a 3.2 percent salary increase all the steps in the lanes that they've earned on the matrix that was approved by the board how did those discussions go i think they went pretty good yeah there's a back and forth you know the cpi is the highest i've seen at 4.7 so found a number that we could all agree on it's this year is a little easier on us because there aren't as many staff members moving lanes because those are the people that see the big increase so it kind of worked out okay as

far as the total cost of the increase compared to other years where we've had a lot that changes that number a lot oshkosh and some other districts have approved 4.7 and you're going to see other ones that are below this but this is a everybody agreed with a good fair kind of middle yeah i'll make emotional proof exactly to approve the dea salaries any further discussion see none all those in favor signify by saying aye aye opposed capacities item 16 discussion action regarding the wave system yeah the board approves the purchase of a waste system i think at the last meeting chief king he had secured a grant of 30 some thousand dollars toward it we agreed to pay the other 25 uh that was based on original estimate of 99 rooms needing this button

that was from the number of teachers that way 85. we're going to 99. oh sorry it was originally based on 85. we need an extra 14 get up to the 99. they're 135 apiece adds up to 1890 extra like a motion improve one second push by chris second by grass to approve the money discussion see none all those in favor signify uh superintendent principles activities director and building and grounds reports uh two things would be uh we had a meeting with the dpi today uh the nutrition people uh connie riley and i and sheila we were talking about uh setting up breakfast for next year i know there's something that's been in the works for a long time uh we applied for a grant for ten thousand dollars that recently came out to help get

school started with breakfast that don't have it we get uh 5 000 a year for two years to help with the implementation process so it's in the works you'll be hearing more about it but the idea would be to offer breakfast starting september first next so won't that pay for itself basically to a certain extent i mean that's backed up by the you know federal money breakfast just like lunch is correct yeah is this all that dumbs the high school yep yes we're going to have to add staff to add breakfast sure and there will be some [Music] financial benefits from it i don't know the idea is that it doesn't turn out to be a money maker for us no but it will basically self-fund itself is what our hope is get close to

okay and that's a hot breakfast it's not just a boxer right okay and the second thing i'll just make you aware you might have seen it in the news but the state government recently approved anti-critical race theory bill where schools would not be allowed to talk about it talk about certain things and governor evil evers vetoed it so uh fyi thanks gail glory i'll do mine and then i'll do riches congratulations to the middle school students and directors who participated in this year's swell honors band and choir event this year was held at dhs on january 29th congratulations to landon mcguire and casey stuffton who represented darlington at the sectional spelling bee in fennimore on january 26th they did a great job congratulations to fourth graders calyx tully easton rear and macdon weissgercher who represented
