At this time, I would like to call to order the March 23rd, 2026 meeting of the Harford Joint One School District's Board of Education. Could we have a roll call, please? >> Here. Blender >> here. Mr. Pridemore >> here. >> Trump present >> here. Thank you. This is a meeting of the board of education in public for the purpose of conducting the district's business and it is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda. Any district resident or parent of a currently enrolled student wishing to speak should have filled out a card at the sign-in table and given it to the board secretary. Were there any? No. Okay. Item number two is our pledge of allegiance. And we have students
here tonight from Central Middle School who are going to lead us. So, Dr. Rosa, I will pass it over to you. We have Sophia, help me pronounce your last name. Lazama from student council along with her adviserss, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Kamass. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you, Sophia. And student council reps. Sophia, can we ask you to come shake all of our hands? >> Thanks for being here. >> Thanks for being >> Thank you so much. You did a great job. >> Sorry, you were alone, but excellent. Wonderful. Item number three on our agenda is to consider the approval of the agenda. The agenda notes
the board's mission of we will support our community through dedicated governance, leadership, and stewardship so that our students achieve. It also states our values and expectations as a board in governing our meetings. The purpose of the agenda approval is twofold. The first reason is to verify that public notice has been given according to state statute 19.84. 984. Miss Hoffman, has the meeting been properly noticed? >> Yes. >> Thank you. The second reason for approval of the agenda is to consider tableabling an item or to rearrange the order of events. Was there anything that wanted to be considered to be moved? Seeing none, I would accept a motion. >> Motion to approve the agenda. >> I'll second. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. >> Item number four is the presentation of
student excellence. And again, I'm going to pass it over to Dr. as we have some students from Central Middle School here tonight for that as well. >> Thank you. We have their math teachers here and our math students if you guys want to come on up. We have Miss Canelty and Miss Glennin and Miss Wolf are here with some of the math students who are going to talk about the math contest at the high school and the math league that they participated in. So for some student introductions, we have Ethan Mada. We have Aiden Ligman and then we have Anolan Bodwine and a Brighten Edgar. Uh I'll be talking about the math league. They brought us in during our Wildcat time to take a 30 question test where it answers would be A, B, C,
or D. There was a column next to them where you put whatever you thought the answer was. Whoever scored the highest out of the 30 points would end up getting first, second, and third place. And that's probably it. I'll also be talking about the math league. So, the questions that were on the math league uh were questions that were mainly logic based, such as ones uh pertaining to prime numbers mainly. >> Um I'll be doing the math contest at the high school. Um, I thought it was a great time. Um, I got to answer questions from logic, geometry, and algebra. And my favorite topic being algebra. And then I'm also talking about the math contest where um um one part I really liked about it was um like the how there were different like team
parts and then there was also the individual parts. Oh yes. Oh, so we were very proud that our eighth grade team, team Cheese, which is represented by eighth graders here, did place first overall cheese. >> Just a question for the students who went to the competition at the high school. You mentioned individual and team. Can you just explain to us how you would compete as an individual and how the team how that works? >> Right. So like with the individual you would get your own sheets of paper with the team. >> Okay. And then it's like a combined score on your for your team >> and that's how the eighth grade team >> Oh, and they average it. Okay. And that's how the eighth grade team won. Team cheese with their team score. That's awesome.
>> Did you guys have individuals that did well and took top numbers as well? I see a hand going up. >> Um, Mr. Pridemore has a question as well. >> But you all can't wait for calculus. >> Was this just Central school or were there other schools? school. >> Oh, okay. Approximately how many students were there total? So many of you know >> representing central >> Oh, wow. >> Students, >> that's awesome. Any other questions? >> I think it's great that we partner with the high school to do it. I think it's a great experience for the kids to, you know, one be in the school that they're going to be in shortly and then to just understand that, you know, math is math is everywhere. So that's awesome. Congratulations. >> Thank you guys for
coming. >> Before we shake hands, can I just brag about you a little bit more because um you were very humble. >> So I have the results in front of me right now. We took first, second, and third place uh for the individual results uh in sixth grade. And then in seventh grade, we had a fourth place finish. Um and then in eighth grade, um we had a four-way tie for the first place finisher, and two of those students were from Central Middle School. We also had a four-way tie for second place at 8th grade. Three of those students were from Central Middle School and we took third uh third place as well. Um and then as we talked about uh team Cheese did win the eighth grade um team results. So a really strong
finish as a team and then also as individuals. So as as a former math teacher, very very proud of all of you. Way to represent our school district. Good job. >> Good job being support. very proud. >> Just one more thank you and congratulations to the students for coming and for their parents for supporting them and bringing them tonight. I said this earlier to a group of people that were in the little uh reception before, but this is our almost unilaterally our favorite part of the board meeting because we get to see and hear from the students and that is truthfully what we do it all for. So, thank you all very much. Um we are moving on with our meeting and like Dr. Dr. Vilova said earlier, everyone is welcome to stay and watch
the teachers present in a little bit. Um, but if you do need to go, we completely understand and thank you again for coming. Um, we're moving on to uh citizen delegation to her to be heard, which there aren't none tonight. So, we'll move on to the board president's report. Um, tonight I just wanted to talk about two things. Every week or every week, we're not here weekly. Every month at our meetings, we fill out a feedback form and our board secretary has been compiling all of these to us. Um, this month is a little different in that I went into last month's and just made some comments in that document for board members to read. So, they are there. And I just wanted to remind everyone that in general, we should be using this reflection
and feedback to discuss items which are in the agenda and things that happen here in the meeting. Um, if there are other concerns, please bring them up to myself or Dr. Voboos. And then we also just put in here the policy 0144.5 which is just board member behavior communications and code of conduct which I just think I know that several of us are up for reelection and that there could be a change coming but this is just a good reminder for all board members to revisit about how we are meant to um communicate with each other and with other people throughout the community. So just a good reminder for everyone. Yeah. And with that, we're going to move on to the district administrative support. >> Okay. Thank you, Miss Feld. Uh the first thing that
I wanted to share is just a series of updates that involve the school board. So, the spring election is April 7th. The um absentee ballots and voting start tomorrow and we will have our school board candidate forum on Thursday this week. that will be held at Central Middle School at 6:30 p.m. And one of the exciting things this year is that we will have some middle school students that are involved and helping us out with that forum. So, in the past, we've had students from the high school come down, and they are still coming down to help facilitate and moderate, but we'll have our own middle school students supporting us as well. Uh, so anyone is invited to attend that. Uh, again, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Central Middle School. Um, and then after the
election, we will have our new board members take the oath of office at our April board meeting. That is April 26th, I believe. And uh, at that meeting, in addition to having our new board members take the oath of office in front of everyone, we will also have our board reorganization meeting. And so what that means is we will vote for uh, president, vice president, treasure, clerk. And so those four positions will be open and voted on. And then the board will also adopt their new board meeting calendar. So those calendars samples have been given out to each of the current board members and they have been shared um or the concept has been shared with our board candidates so that way everyone is aware and the board can take action on that in April.
>> Terra, >> yes, >> Monday, April 27th. >> Thank you. Thank you very much. >> Um that's what I get for speaking from memory. uh the new schoolboard member gatherings that is on April 21st. And so for anyone who is uh elected um those board members are invited to attend the WSB gathering in PWA on April 21st. That is prior to our first board meeting as a school board. And then one of the things that I wanted to just get everybody excited for because your administrative team has been working really really hard. Uh and I saw lots of smiles around the room because I think I am the one who most loves policy. But uh the administrative team is really diligently on policy updates with Niola and Miss Navar and I will be meeting with
our Nola representative next month. And so she will be getting everything in order and then we will send you all of the policies uh that the board will then take action on in May. So you'll have a month to review those. We'll share all of the policies themselves along with the spreadsheet uh that goes along with it. So spreadsheets and policy >> have it for me. >> Um and then when I move into district updates uh we are forward exam testing and so we were delayed a little bit with the snow day last week. Uh but uh forward exam testing is up and running. Again, that's our state required testing. At grades three through eight and at grades four and eight, we also have additional testing for our students. Um in the fall, we were
supposed to have uh Dr. Jen come in and unfortunately, if you think back that far, she was ill that day and could not be here. So, we have her rescheduled for April 8th in this room um from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. So, it is open to anyone and uh it's an opportunity for students and families and staff uh and community members to come in and hear about mental health. Uh we have also recently dropped our most recent edition of the district download podcast. So, we are now up to five, which is really exciting. Um, and so, uh, if you haven't listened to that, you have two options. You can either watch it or if you're driving to work, you can listen to it, uh, using your audio, whatever subscriber tool you like. And then, uh,
we just heard about the great things with the math contest. I also wanted to mention we had another exciting event at Central Middle School. Uh, we had our National Junior Honor Society induction. We inducted 35 students into NJHS. So, Miss Cochland did a wonderful job and it was a fantastic evening for everyone present and we made the second page of the news. So, that was also really exciting. >> Uh, and yes, >> reschedule of community fair. >> Ah, and our community fair, which was also scheduled for Monday evening, um, was rescheduled to April 16th, >> the 13th. Monday the 13th. >> Monday the 13th. >> Okay. 5:30 to 7:30. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thanks. And that concludes my reports for today. >> Lots of lots of stuff going on. That's excellent. Okay, our
discussion items tonight. We're going to start with our spotlight on learning. And I'm going to ask the the math team, the illustrative math team from Central Middle School to come back up and talk to us about illustrative math. Well, thank you very much. Um, we would just like to introduce ourselves again. Uh, my name is Kristen Kennalty. I'm one of the eighth grade math teachers at Central. >> My name is Abby Wolf. I'm one of the seventh grade teachers at Central. And then I'm Brandon Glennon and I'm the other eighth grade math teacher at Central. >> And we're going to start our presentation with a little bit about what I am is. Um, Illustrative Math 360 is a problem-based instructional model that works to actively engage students in a collaborative learning community. Within this model,
teachers lead discussions and embrace students unique perspectives on how to solve different math problems and a lot of our work is very visualbased. So, just to give you a little idea for each grade level how some of the visuals look, I am 3606th grade math starts the year with geometry and they use a visual that has students decompose and rearrange shapes in order to find their area. The second visual is a discrete diagram that allows students to look at ratios before they are introduced to tables later in math. And then we also have double number lines, which is another visual used in sixth grade math and in seventh grade math to help students understand how unit rates, ratios, and percents work. As far as seventh grade math, we also start with the geometry unit on
scale drawings. So, one of the visuals up there, that first one shows a picture of a scale drawing. Students can find scale factor and they also create some scale drawings of their own. And then that next visual that you see, it has three different parts. It's for our second unit on proportional relationships. And you can see that there's an equation, a table, and a graph. And those tables are something that we use very frequently throughout the rest of the school year and all the units. All righty. And then just like the previous grades, the eighth grade math also starts with the geometry. Our main focus for the geometry part is doing a translations of rotations and reflections. So that first visual up there is kind of showing what we're thinking about. And these students mainly
use patty paper to kind of actually see how the rotations and the reflections and all of it works rather than just remembering like a shortcut or a formula to do so. So the lessons really have them play around with the shapes and and create their own meaning before we give them the vocab and what the stuff is called technically. And then our oh and then that second visual down at the bottom is from unit 3 on linear relationships. The big thing our linear relationships are always really grounded in of real world examples. So like the one up there has dollars over weeks. So it really makes sense thinking about how much money you have in your bank account over time. So they really start thinking when it's increasing, when it's decreasing, and if it's staying
constant. And then also, so this is one example of what warm-ups to lessons may look like. This is an example from the seventh grade curriculum and probably one of the most common structures of doing like a notice and wonder. So it's really getting kids thinking about what they're looking at before we tell them. Um, a lot of times IM has it structured and I would also structure it in the classroom where the kids individually like independently write down one thing they notice, one thing they wonder. They're not limited to one, but I try to encourage one from each category and then they kind of build up from there. Talk at their table, see if they have any similarities or differences. And then after they kind of make that, another way I kind of like to
structure is each table will share like one idea and they have a choice to either expand on a previous point or give a new one. So really trying to make it a discussion that I'm not actively participating in. I'm just guiding and a recording of what the kids are saying. Another warm-up you might see is called a math talk. And it really gets students talking about how they're doing math for different equations or it might be um mainly with this math talk. It is with an equation where they're solving for an unknown amount. Now you can see a display of four equations. Normally when we're going through it, one would be displayed at a time and students need to think of how to solve this equation mentally. So completely in their head find some easy
or quick strategies that they can think about to solve for that unknown number. When they have that answer, they'll do like a silent thumbs up. Not something super noticeable to the rest of the class. It just lets the teacher know where the class is at when they're answering these questions. And then it helps to select a student that does have an answer to share. Um then we'll go through them kind of one at a time and talking through the different strategies. It is kind of cool seeing for each problem how students come up with the answer because for some of them almost everybody solved it similarly and some of them they have different ideas for how to come up with that answer. Another type of warm-up, one of my favorites personally, um which three go
together and why do they go together? So with this type of warm-up there are typically four items. Here we see kind of visuals and diagrams that might be equations, might be numbers, might be images, pictures, things like that. But it really challenges students to think about why certain pieces might go together. Like for example, this one that you see, most students would pick A, B, and C. They look similar. They're all tape diagrams. But then really challenging them to think about how does D fit into a group. And then we talk through about why they put things together in a group and it just has some really good math talk involved with it as well. And then that's going to lead us into an activity where we would like to invite the board to do
some math with us. So we have a which three go together. You're literally solving the other. >> Yes, they should. >> Thank you. So, if this was a student lesson, the students have a workbook where they in their book would just circle the three that they think go together and then we would give them some quiet think time to write in their book why they go together. So, I'll give you a couple minutes of quiet think time and what I would like is on your post-it note for you to write the three letters that you believe go together and then have some sort of reasoning to justify your selection. Has everyone had an opportunity to make their choice? I >> think so. >> Okay. So, Miss Glennon is going to keep track of how many
people select each option. So, please raise your hand if you said that A, B, and C go together. What did you say? I'm sorry. >> A, B, and C. And >> now I want to change my answer. >> Okay. Then people who picked A, B, and D to go together. >> What What's your next competitive count? >> A, B, and D. >> Raise your hand twice. Yeah, I know. I got four answers. >> I have two answers. >> One answer, please. For did not specify. I apologize. Okay, let's go A, C, and D together. And then our last one was B, C, and D. >> I think we had two two for that one. Okay. So, I would like a representative from who picked A, B, and D to give me a reason why those
three go together. So, if there's anyone willing to share. Yes, >> they're all have angles or they're not circles. >> Very good. So, that's one reason those go together. Does anyone have another reason why A, B, and D could go together? >> They all have an area of 24. >> They do all have an area of 24. >> Very good. >> Was that your answer? >> It was my answer. They have an area of 24. >> Is there anyone else who has another reason for A, B, and D? >> Okay, then our next most popular choice was A, B, and C. Is there a representative who would like to share why those go together? >> Ethan, go ahead. >> Can you go back to the first thing you said though that they all have to
do with triangles? How do you visualize that? China. >> Okay, thank you very much for clarifying. And then I have B, C, and D. Two people chose that. Is there anyone willing to share why those go together? B, C, and D. I said they were compass. >> Okay. And then I did not have any for A, C, and D. Does anyone think they have an idea how those could go together? A, C, and D. >> They're all blue. >> They are all blue. You are correct. You are correct. And this is just and this is a great example of one of our warm-up activities that really gets the students thinking, incorporates a lot of great vocabulary, and really shows the students that there is more than one way to solve these. There's not one right
answer. It's all about how you look at it. >> Is there a is there a correlation between A, C, and D? >> I was making >> I would say there's no diagonal lines. >> So that's another way that you could have looked at it. That's what you're going for here. That's awesome. >> And it can be whatever whatever you see. So there's lots of different ways to see it. >> Right. >> Oh, what was it? Oh, five across. >> Five across as well. >> Good observations. >> Were there any questions? >> Kids, do you like these warm-up activities? They they seem very intriguing. I mean, I just look at that. I'm like, I think the whole room got very involved here, which is very fun. That was meant >> It shouldn't have been, but it
was. We should not be seated next to each other in class. >> Have you guys Have you all seen like a uptick in participation with this? Yeah, that's good. >> It's very engaging. And >> this one of feel more like a puzzle >> always kind of has more success than you feel it. >> Sure. >> It's great. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you guys so much. >> And no one was wrong. Everyone had the right answer. >> So I'm just ignore the number. >> Good job is probably the best part of it all. Yeah. Best part of my day. That was a good one. Thank you very much. I had great >> See how many math? >> A lot. A lot. >> I would get a D on that. Answer >> till they asked
me what the name of that was. >> Okay. Okay. And next we have an administrative report technology services. I'm going to slowly read this so he can come up to the front. >> Got some Is it about this? >> Is it about math or no? >> Yes. >> We can hear a quick story. Yeah. >> I went to high school. I had a teacher that taught us in geometry. When I got to college taking lowle calculus, he was in my class and he told me that I never had calculus even in college qualify me to be a geometry teacher. Well, the funny part of the story is that he only lasted about three weeks. He dropped out >> in the class >> of the class. Yes. But he remained teaching. >> I assume so. >>
Certainly. So, not to stop learning. That's the lesson there. >> And I will say as a former math teacher and you you have several math teachers in the room over here. I had three calculus classes in college was heaven. Heaven on earth. >> So, how many calculus classes did you take? >> Brian, if you could provide us an overview of it, that would be wonderful. >> Geometry. Good evening everybody. Sorry I do not have any interactive activities planned at all. Sorry, sorry to disappoint. Um since uh we met last month uh in the technology department, we have been placing orders on the approved equipment that you approved at last month's meeting. Um we are waiting for the -ate window to close so we can finally see if we get uh -ate funding for some of
that equipment. Uh this past week we have Last week and this week, we have been busy um staffing the buildings for forward testing to make sure we were there to help troubleshoot any of the techn technological issues they've had. Um so far, most things have been going good. There are some known bugs with the forward exam, but the teachers have been doing a great job of uh following some of the tech troubleshooting guides we've sent out, and they've been able to take care of that without too much intervention from us. So, that's been great. Uh, spring break's coming up. Uh, so hopefully the weather is going to cooperate with us that we can tie up some loose ends and get some cameras installed that we've been trying to do since the referendum closed at the
beginning of the school year. Um, as well as some other wiring and other loose settings that make it easier when the students aren't there to be in homes and whatnot. >> When does your rate window close? Uh, April 1st is when the official window closes and then usually by the end of April we hear >> you'll find out. Okay. A little bit of a wait yet. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Any other questions? >> Just a comment. I appreciate that you have the children keep the laptops at school so they're fully charged and ready to go for testing. It's been very nice not having to ask my child every day, do you have your laptop? No, it's at school charging so it's ready to go for testing. I appreciate that. >> That' be a thank
you to Dr. Gatskco back there. >> Yeah, I appreciate that. Thanks. >> Talk a little bit about the ordering and what the feedback is from. >> Uh so yes, uh oh, I forgot to put that on my list. Uh we recently returned from a tech conference, our yearly one that's a bunch of K12 or actually no K20 techs from all over the Midwest um that we meet in Wisconsin of Kalahari every year. Um, so we get a chance to speak with a lot of the vendors and put names to faces. And, uh, this year a big, you know, undertone of everything was you're lucky you ordered early because things are starting to get very serious now in the market. So, thank you for approving all that last month. That has made has taken a load
off of our plate to get that stuff early and get it ordered and in. So, we already have the Chromebooks sitting here. So all that stuff is here and we're doing great. So >> yeah, a couple of the comments were server prices were going through the roof. Um >> 100% in some cases >> 100% at least >> all the deaths and >> Chromebook prices have gone up and scarcity is starting to play into it. We already have ours delivered so they came last week on a ballot. >> Last week. So, I mean, fortunately, again, because we started early, we either have our stuff in place or it's in order and ready to go. So, we're not subject to some of this nonsense that is happening from the suppliers. >> Good. Excellent. First, I was worried
when you said that there was some issue ordering. >> No, only good news. Okay, good. >> Excellent. Well, thank you. >> All right, moving on to our district business action items for the evening. Item number one, the Hartford Elementary Education Association and Schoolboard Exchange of initial proposal set Brown rules future meeting dates and or offer to ratify in accordance with 111.704M2 Wisconsin statutes. The exchange of the initial contract proposals between Harford Elementary Education Association, which is the HA, and the Harford Joint One School District is to take place in open session. We've got Mr. start by saying I took two calcul. >> Thank you all for everything you guys do. I really appreciate it. We all really appreciate it. Uh trying to improve our schools every time we're here. Appreciate it. Thank you. >> Thank
you. Thank you, Mr. Ralph. If the board is agreeable to the HA offer, the board may act on their offer. If the HA is agreeable to the board's offer, the board can ratify its offer. If neither is acceptable, ground rules and future meeting dates should be agreed upon. Um is at this time I would take a motion. >> Uh motion to approve and ratify the initial offer of the HA as presented. >> A second. Any comments or discussion? >> Uh Mr. Majerish and myself have had numerous meetings with Mr. Row, Miss Powell, and um Robin Tower as well. And so this is something that we've discussed and has been a past practice of the school district and the school board. >> There's no other discussion. Can we have a roll call vote, please? >> Don,
>> I. >> Aaron, >> I. >> Louise, >> Ian, >> I. >> And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Thank you. Item number two is the Wisconsin School Nutrition Purchasing Cooperative Agreement for the 2627 school year. This agreement is for a cooperative made up of 63 Wisconsin school districts and enables purchasing volume for price leverage with vendors. The agreement will replace contracts with separate prime food, bread, and milk vendors, but the district may choose a separate produce vendor. The co-op has solid financial standing currently maintaining two years of operating expenses in reserve. Is there a motion? Motion to approve the 20 26 27 Wisconsin school nutrition purchasing cooperative agreement. >> I'll second. >> Any questions or discussion? >> This is also um something that the high school is involved with company and again uh as
Mr. Majerus put into the template. This will help us continue to save money by buying in bulk. >> And this is the same group we were with last year. >> Same group as last year. They've added two schools. They're up to 65 schools now. >> Um, again, a lot of the area school districts right around here. And it is nice having Mrs. Glory also being the um executive administrator or director of that group um because then we have the access to ask questions and have something right in our backyard. So, um, pretty excited about this. Again, Sarah used this cooperative at her previous district. Last year was our first year. went went well and uh moving forward with our second goround. >> There's no other questions. Can we have a roll call vote? >> Aaron
>> I. >> Louise >> Ian >> I. >> Don >> I. >> And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number three is buildings and ground package for the 2026 27th school year with referendum work. Last year there was not a package for spring summer of 25 considering the three generator installations. Two referendum projects remaining in the Lincoln kitchen and summer programming and cleaning. Administration is focusing on exterior projects this summer. There will be minor repair work across the three buildings performed by our maintenance staff. The costs listed are based on quotes received as noted or historical payments for similar work, but all amounts represent not to exceed authorization. Is there a motion? Motion to approve the 2026 27 buildings and grounds package at the cost not to exceed $270,000. >> I'll second Dr. V
Lus. Do you want to provide a little >> um the the context that I would provide uh beyond what Mr. Majaras already shared is that during my first summer here, the summer of 2024, the summer project list um accounted for about $366,000 worth of work. This is $270,000 worth of work. So about $100,000 different. We are trying to um be cognizant of our budget due to revenue um and things like that. So, uh, we feel like this is a responsible, uh, project list to bring forward to you that continues to do some branding over at Rossman and then also provide exterior work which won't interfere with any of the interior work that we have going on. Yeah, the biggest thing for me was um because we had so many projects inside last year and the
disruption that that caused um I thought it would be um prudent that we focus on the outside things that do need work. Um, but it'll keep our cleaning crews kind of going inside the um, school this year so that we can have a a much more smooth and a more normal launch to the school year than we might have had last August and into September. >> I have a question about Ross since I'm not that familiar with that, but that that's the old district building behind the portable building is what we're looking at removing, >> correct? And this total is without any we don't know if there's going to be issues or do we feel like this price is correct because I know we were talking I mean based on here some of the information
is >> so >> could be issues. >> Yeah. So um just to to go in order um the old shed is still out there. We replaced the little shed on the west side of the uh west side of the building. We'll just tear that down because there's people here that can tear that down. So, that'll be easy. Asbestous testing, we've actually had um EMC Environmental out already and they've done the testing work that they need to do. We're waiting for their report. They're not suspecting that we're going to have any asbestous issues. Um there's with demolition, it's a little bit different than um doing regular maintenance. And there's percentages that are allowable, I'd say, in terms of, you know, if there's uh certain hot debris there that we can still deconstruct without having to do
a bunch of different things in terms of remediation. So, um we'll know more about that certainly by the next meeting. Um we should know more about that in the next few days, I would think. um in terms of the actual demolition of the building. So that's bringing in a crew, demolishing it, and a lot of the cost is actually the um removal of debris. Um so getting the stuff actually out of here, and then what to do with the space. So the our project list is suggesting that we um replace uh in the area asphalt. Uh there's some asphalt that's not great. Um on the north side of the building as you come out the entrance that's closest to that area. Um and since there's gravel and other stuff underneath that, what we do is
take care of all the asphalt kind of in that area. Um push the fence that's there. Um kind of delineating the parking in the district office side versus the playground side. We push that to the north to give um Dr. buoy and the and the kids and the staff a little bit more room there. Um so they expand some area there, but we'd still have an ability to park a few vehicles up on the north side for the staff that's closest up there. So a majority of the cost actually as you can see here is the asphalt part of it. >> Um >> and if the bas that dollar amount goes down, right? Right. Okay. This is the not to exceed. It's completely possible that the asbesus remediation might be a few thousand dollar instead
of 20, >> but we wanted to make sure >> that there's enough there in case we do find something that needs to be dealt with. >> And we would never just grass. We have to do asphalt. That's our best option. um >> that space of the >> we could ask >> I mean so >> there'd be a little there would be a little bit strangeness in terms of the shape there um again in talking to Dr. buoy and what he um would like to see there and knowing that there's another asphalt need adjacent to it. Um we felt that the best course of action would be is just to replace the existing asphalt that's directly north of the of the school building and then take care of and put asphalt um in that area where
the building sits right now. Any other questions? >> Seeing none, can we have a roll call vote? >> Louise >> Ian >> I. >> Don >> I. >> Aaron >> I. And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Thank you Adam and Dr. Vobos for providing that context for this. Um, item number four, technology agreement with Aaron School District in the 2627 school year. The recommendation is a one-year contract to provide tech consulting services for Aaron School District and includes a 3% increase from this school year. The partnership revenue allows our district to pay for additional resources needed to maintain a strong department. Is there a motion? >> My motion to approve the 2026 27 technology agreement with Aaron School District. >> Second. >> Any discussion or questions? This is the same agreement that we've brought
forward to you. Uh like last year, it's a one-year agreement. It used to be a two-year agreement. We've changed that. Uh we've also spoken to both school districts already to ensure that they are interested in the partnership. If there's no further questions, can I have a roll call vote? >> Ian, >> I. >> Don, >> I. >> Aaron, >> I. >> Louise, >> no. >> I vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number five is a technology agreement with Herman Neosa Rubicon School District for the 202627 school year. The recommendation is a one-year contract to provide tech consulting services for honor school district and includes a 3% increase from this school year. This partnership revenue allows our district to pay for additional resources needed to maintain a strong. Is there a motion? >> A motion to
approve the 2026 27 technology agreement with Herman Neosin School District. >> Second. any discussion or question that's what I see at a position concerning that you know do you want to talk about anything I I just I'm concerned I mean I know it's supposed to be a plus for our district but I just would like to keep our technology here and our people >> understood um I do think that the increase in what we do does allow us to keep my understanding is it doesn't we're not taking anything away from our district. >> I mean um what I'd say in its simplest form we have them set up a lot like we are set up. So it's easy for Mr. Rajlo u Mr. Fry and Mr. Sutton to maintain their environments because they're doing a
lot of the same things in terms of their setup and the way they manage their district as we do. um Honor specifically had some questions as Mr. Smallley kind of um got to that district and wanted to know more about it and after you learned kind of what we're doing, how we do things and I think he also may have gotten some pricing in terms of um who would do that work if we weren't doing that work. I think he found that um what we provide is uh very competitive and keeps their environment stable. So um you know there's hours there available for um the guys to go out and do the work physically. A lot of the work that we do for them is actually done on site here or virtually here again as
yeah just like our guys can maintain and do different things remotely um they can work on some of their stuff also in terms of setup remotely. So, um it's additional work um for certain, but um I think we have it pretty streamlined now. Um and again, they're satisfied with being set up like our stuff. Uh it meets their needs, so it makes it easier for the guys to manage. Do you know of the 12 hours per week approximately how many they're here doing it remotely versus onsite bathroom >> as it as he comes up >> we should have had your presentation >> what I will as he gets up here at one time we had different technicians doing different work for the two districts and their prices were different um because um it's Mr. Rash
or Mr. fry that generally do most of the work based on their skill and abilities. Um they're they get charged the same rate now um for what that's worth. >> Yeah. So typically, I mean, I would say on an average week, um, or say on a minimum week, we try to spend at least four hours on site. Um, but average probably leans more towards the eight hours. And then we do as much as we can remotely, whether that's, uh, if we're busy here and we just need to go pick Chromebooks up to fix them, we bring them back here and fix them here because then we can also be an asset here as well while we're fixing Chromebooks at our desk. Um, so yeah, we do try to make sure that they are staffed because
we can't leave them high and dry. Um, but yeah, I'd say we probably go at a minimum of four hours a week and that'd be a lower week. Um, but >> their staff meetings are like their I wouldn't say they're administrative team meetings, but you have specific set tech. >> Yep. We do have somewhat rags tech meetings whether it's monthly or sometimes twice a month depending on the time of year especially to get ready at the beginning of the year. But we do kind of divy the tasks up that we can at least spread ourselves a little more evenly. So one tech's not completely taking all the brunt. So um like Mr. Sutton fixes a lot of the Chromebooks whereas I do a lot more of the network things um and Mr. Fried does a
lot of enduser support at those districts. So, >> okay, >> try to streamline it as much as possible so we're available to all districts at all times and we can work remotely whether it's working remotely from there to this district if the need arises or working remotely from here to those districts. So, we try to stay as available and accessible as possible. >> Any questions for Mr. Ros here? Thank you for coming up. I mean, I think that there was an issue with their time being taken too much. I'm not saying like that I I get where Louise is coming from. Um, I think we would hear about it though if there was an issue. Hopefully, we would though. >> CO was concerning. So again, I think as we went through that um historic and
kind of hopefully once in a generation type event and there is concern that again we have enough of our own things to deal with and having to deal with other people's stuff um doesn't make our lives necessarily easier. No. um kind of as we made our way through that um bringing it down to one-year contract. So, we can at least be flexible and if we just don't have the time or can't dedicate the resources, then we can do that without being locked into a longer term contract as well. So, I mean, things have been going fine as far as I'm concerned. Um, but I do think that changing the contract length gave us a little bit more flexibility to worry about us versus having to worry about other people. >> I appreciate the further discussion.
I just think it's raised a good point. It's a good question to have. So, thank you. >> Um, if there's no other questions, can we roll call vote? >> Don, >> hi. >> Aaron, >> hi. >> Louise, >> no. >> Ian, >> hi. and I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number six is the Spanish curriculum for middle school. Spanish curriculum materials were selected to enhance language acquisition, cultural competency, and student engagement through updated research aligned instructional resources. Based on the success of the pilot, the curriculum material is now being recommended for formal adoption. Is there a motion? Motion to approve the purchase of a three-year licensed middle school Spanish curriculum materials from Savas Learning Company at the cost not to exceed 6,878. >> Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Any questions? Katie,
how many uh Spanish speaking students are there? >> Um we have um as far as students who are multilingual about 5.2% of our student population. That's for K K8. >> But this is referencing um Spanish elective course which is often seventh and eighth graders. >> That's what number six is Spanish curriculum. Yeah. Oh yeah. Middle school. >> Yeah. Okay. So in the middle school is 5.2% you said >> I'm sorry students within our district students who are multilingual students 5.2% of our student population K8. >> And how many middle schoolers are currently enrolled in Spanish or are interested in taking Spanish classes? Do we know that? >> Seventh and eighth grade. >> We have four sections for seventh grade to eighth grade. >> Okay. them. I know my sixth grader is excited to take Spanish
next year. Any other questions? Uh, can we have a roll call vote, please? Aaron, >> I. >> Louise, >> Ian, >> Don, >> I. >> And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number seven is Spanish reading intervention program. This Spanish reading intervention program is designed to use for instruction to support early literacy development for students who are Spanish speaking in grades kindergarten through third grade. The program is specifically designed to provide targeted instruction to students who meet the criteria outlined in the district's multilingual RTI, which is response to intervention process. Is there a motion? >> Motion to approve the Spanish reading intervention from Pacific Learning. >> A second. This has no dollar amounts with it. So if there's a discussion, we can certainly talk about it. But it will just be a a regular
vote, not a vote. Any questions? This is where you are speaking to though in our entire district approximately 5.2% of our population is multilingual and this is helping specifically kiddos K through third. So at the elementaryaries, >> are there any students in K3 that come into the district that don't know how to speak English? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> We have uh all in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. Item number eight is social studies middle school con collection renewal with Hton Mifflin Harport for the 26 27 school year. This renewal includes digital licenses for both teachers and students for the following units: world civilization, world geography, United States history and civics. The civics module has been monitored as a pilot during the current school year. Based on the results of this
pilot, the recommendation is for full implementation of the civics module as part of a comprehensive adoption of the HMH social studies program and its additional social studies components. Is there a motion? >> Motion to approve the renewal of the social studies middle school collection with Hton Mifflin airport at a cost not to exceed $11,172. >> I'll second. Any questions or discussion? This was part of I believe last month when they did the presentation on civics. This was this was that same thing. >> Right. >> And this dollar amount doesn't change. Is it per I'm assuming the amount of students >> for the amount of students. Correct. Um and with the civics addition, there's no additional charge to that civics. It's included in the package. We just brought it forward because it was new enhanced. That's
why we wanted to pilot it and then recommend it for adoption. So, there's no additional cost for the civics component. I just didn't know because it says 420 at $28 each. I'm assuming you're assuming there's going to be 420 students using the program and seven teachers. >> Any other questions? >> There isn't there a mandate from the state that we teach civics? >> There is. there's a high school there's an exam that has to be taken before students can graduate from high school. So that uh requirement does not pertain to us. Um but there are different requirements that we have to teach um whether it's civics or different um ethnic heritage. Uh there's a variety of different mandates and we're in compliance of all of those. If there's no other questions, can I roll call
vote? Gon >> Hi, >> Aaron. >> I >> Louise >> Ian >> I >> and I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number nine is keyboarding and digital citizenship license renewal for the 2627 school year. Typetastic is a digital keyboarding resource used in the library media center to support students in developing keyboarding skills. Digital citizenship aligns with standards and teaches things such as password security, cyber bullying, and communication. Is there a motion? Motion to approve the keyboarding and digital citizenship license with pipetastic at a cost not to exceed 4,480. >> I'll second. >> Any questions or discussion? >> I think everyone understands what typing is. Um, but one of the things I wanted to comment on was digital citizenship because I've seen the students working on this in class. And so this is a fun
way for them to go through uh it's computer and game based. So they're listening to different audio clips, they're watching different videos, and they're learning about internet safety and things like that, which is um a responsible thing for us to do as a school district to make sure our kids understand how to safely use technology. If there are no other questions, can I have a roll call vote? >> Aaron, >> I. >> Louise, >> Ian, >> I. >> Don, >> I. >> And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries. Item number 10 is our consent agenda. 066>> A second. We have a roll call vote, please. >> Louise, >> Ian, >> I. >> Don, >> hi. >> Aaron, >> I. >> And I'll vote I. >> Motion carries.
