Ready? All right. It's 5:45, so I'd like to go ahead and call this board meeting to order. Um, Marie, would you please um site our statement of meeting notice for us? >> Sorry. >> Posted on the bulletin board um on the website and in the newspaper. Thank you, Marie. And then would you also please take care of our roll call attendance of our board members this evening. >> Hennis >> here. Nolan jacket >> here. >> Heather Barry >> here. >> Tiffany Stapleton >> here. >> Kenneth Mueller >> here. >> Thank you. Would everyone please rise and face the flag over the for the pledge of allegiance. [clears throat] I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty
and justice for all. >> Thank you. Is there a motion to adopt the agenda? >> So move. >> Motion by Nolan Jacket. Is there a second? >> Second by Kenneth Miller. Any discussion about the agenda? Hearing none. All those in favor of adopting the agenda as presented say I. >> I. Okay. Any oppose? Say nay. And that motion carries. Um, next on our agenda, we have our public comment section. Marie, did we have anybody sign up this evening? We did not. So, we will skip forward in our agenda then to our recognitions. All right. So, I would invite our April Rotary students of the month. Our first student we are proud to introduce is Brooke Kzakim Kzakimi sorry name Brooke maintains a strong academic record with a 3.75 GPA and Brooke noted her path differs
from the traditional AP focus trajectory and that Brooke represents the true excellence found within our technical education department and she has strategically prioritized hands-on technical training And this intentional choice has really allowed her to master skills that directly align with her professional goals and future industry requirements. And Brooke is a versatile athlete and proven leader in competitive sports as well. She is a dedicated member of the school's track and field team and represented 4 shooting sports and air rifle at the 2024 national championship and compound archer at the 2025 national championship. She also serves as the vice president of her 4 club, frequently assuming responsibilities of other officers to ensure seamless club operations. Embra consistently contributes to the betterment of her community through a variety of volunteer initiatives such as maintaining flower beds at local
post office and assisting with the flag placement for the village of Neoso as well as the Hartford velocity velocity fast pitch managing tournament logistics equipment setup and essential operations. So, I will now invite Brooke to share about her journey after HUHS and a little more about herself. Um, so my plans after high school graduation is I am attending W. Stout, majoring in construction management and also partaking the track and field team as a thrower. Um, my favorite high school memory at HHS would be attending national convention for FFA because you get to meet with FFA members across the whole country and just bond and it's it's basically one big happy family in the end. Um, one advice I would give an incoming freshman is get involved because you don't realize how many friendships you can
gain from being involved in like FFA and track and even attending state. Like there was two of us that went this year and I got to meet so many new throwers and bond with them too. >> Congratulations again for >> Thank you. [applause] Our next Rotary student of the month that we are excited to introduce is Julia Boltz. And she has demonstrated a consistent commitment to academic excellence throughout her high school career. She has maintained a 3.7 GPA and successfully navigated a rigorous course load that included advanced placement studies in government, language arts, comp composition, physics, US history, biology, psychology, and pre-calculus. Her disciplined approach to her education is mirrored by her extensive extracurricular engagement where she has balanced athletic pursuits in cross country, the Slinger Hartford High School ski team, and the Lakers club
ski team with community focused activities like Irish dance. Uh she has also been a part of the National Honor Society that she has earned as well as H club. Julia has gained valuable professional experience and interpersonal skills working as a bridal and prom stylist at Ameilia Shan Bridal. And this diverse background has prepared her for a focused transition into higher education. So I would invite Julie to share a little bit more about herself and plans after high school. My plans after high school is to attend the University of Minnesota majoring in kinesiology on a prea path. And with that, I plan to eventually become a PA working specifically in orthopedic and sports medicine. And then um my advice to incoming freshman is to just say yes to everything. Join all the clubs, all the sports.
One of my regrets personally wasn't joining as much my freshman year because I feel like it really um helps students acclimate to high school, making new friends, and kind of adjusting to the new academic changes. And then my favorite memory from high school was probably over this winter. I'm on the varsity girl ski team and we won conference undefeated for the first time in school history. So it was just so cool to see all my hard work pay off that I've worked for over the past four years and to just win that with my friends. >> FANTASTIC. [applause] >> All right. and then we will move into a number of wonderful donations tonight. Our first donation, we just wanted to express our sincere gratitude to the Wisconsin State Golf Association Foundation for their generous donation
of $1,000 to our boys golf program to be used for additional equipment needed for the team as well as to help pay for the varsity reserve entry fees. Also, thank you to the Wisconsin Golf Association for the thousand donation to the girls golf program to also be used for the equipment as well as the varsity reserve entry fees. Our next donation, we would love to thank the Hartford Basketball Club for their generous donation of $1,000 to the program, which really it funds um a variety of purchases such as practice jerseys, travel gear, JB sweatshirts, as well as also thank you to the Hartford basketball club for their generous donation of $1,000 to the girls uh basketball program as well, which will help fund similarly plastics jerseys, travel gear, um JV sweatshirts, things of that nature.
So, huge thank you to the Hartford Basketball Club. And then on behalf of the district, we extend sincere thanks to the HUS Athletic Booster Club for their substantial gift of $50,000, which was designated for the scoreboard scholarship. So, huge thank you to our athletic booster club who continues to support [clears throat] all of our activities, which is just phenomenal. Thank you. Thank you. We would also like to thank an anonymous donor who generously donated $1,000 for the girls softball program to be used for some varsity apparel. And then finally, wanted to share deep appreciation to H&L Farms for their continued support for their recent donation of staff gifts, which is a surprise. So that will be distributed soon. So just truly an amazing community support um that we are truly grateful for. And just you
look at the number of these donations across the year is just truly amazing. So, thank you. Thank you greatly. Thank you. Um and I echo that amazing amount of donations we have on the agenda this month. So, thank you every to everyone for all those donations. Um next on our agenda, we have our consent agenda items. There are a number of documents there including um meeting minutes, vouchers, treasures report, and personnel recommendations as well as a job description update. Is there a motion on the consent agenda items? >> Motion to approve consent agenda items. >> Motion by Kenneth Miller to approve the consent agenda items. Is there a second? >> A second. >> We have a motion and a second by that seconded by Tiffany Stapleton. Any conversation or discussion? Hearing none. All those in
favor? Oh, sorry. Did somebody have something? >> Go first and let Rob can. Um, just wanted to thank Mr. Helms um for his leadership over the past several weeks, really stepping up to support our talented building and grounds department uh both proactively and reactively. Um, you know, we have such a talented building and grounds team here. And so, thank you again um to ensure smooth operations for our students, our families, staff and community. um you know, he and the B&G's team willingness to jump up and jump out in the in anything that happens last night in the storms um just really speaks volumes about their love and commitment to the HHS family. So, thank you again. >> Okay, that's any further discussion none. All those in favor of approving the consent agenda item say I.
>> I. Any oppos? That motion carries. The consent agenda items have been approved. Um, next on our agenda, we have our reports. Starting with our student board representatives report. [clears throat] All right. So, Emma couldn't make it tonight. Uh but I'll start off by saying we just had the election uh this April. Um it came out that Miss Gillan won. Um so congratulations to her. Uh she'll be joining you guys shortly. And then also during this month we uh parttook in uh deciding who would win educator of the year. Uh Miss Yan won it. Uh we had a survey sent out. Staff, students, uh and community members filled it out. Uh then we narrowed it down to two candidates and then as the student board reps we had no name with who was listed on
the answers to the questions but we then had a summary of it and we judged the summary uh according to which candidate and then ultimately Mission led the points of who was awarded the most points for the candidate. Hey Owen, you want to go back to that slide? I just think we should highlight the smaller picture is her at the desk in her classroom when she's finding out. So just a really cute shock and awe moment >> that didn't go on Facebook. [clears throat] [laughter] >> So firstly, we our school now has a therapy dog for the first time. Her name is Roxy Rose Romllo, a certified therapy dog to support psychological growth, social skills, and self-esteem. She was introduced introduced by sources of strength for schoolwide support of mental health and wellness. So far
has helped the school by welcoming students in the morning, being present during student testing to reduce some stress and offer distraction when students need to regulate their emotions during breaks in student services. Students can sign up in Minga to visit Roxy during like occasional OT times as long as they're getting good enough grades in their classes. And teachers are also able to request to have Roxy visit their classrooms as well. So, it's just a super fun experience for students. Super new, very interesting. >> Yeah. >> And that's for going to bird club. [laughter] >> All righty. So, some more sources of strength updates. Uh we had a successful connect your strengths week with the dress up days and all the activities. The the most popular activity seemed to be the rock paper scissors competition. So
it was a schoolwide thing. Everybody got three little bracelets and it was just rock paper scissors and once you got 10 you got a go cash in for some candy and a little reward and you got entered in a raffle. Um then we also partnered with the Hartford food pantry for the food drive during that week. And now sources of strength is currently planning activities for the start of day of service. And big thing Miss Molini and Miss Springs have became completely certified to be secondary local trainers for sources of strength for HHS. >> All right. So, um Olivia cannot make it today. So, here's me. Um so, I'm here to talk about the new um food service update um with some new menu options. So, um some of the examples of new food item
options were the Detroit pepperoni pizza. And then we have a sausage pancakes and hash browns, a Swedish meatballs, and um this one was really interesting. a student suggested having uh fruit snack bars in our Oreo cafe and that is in there now. Uh so we want to thank Miss Chloroso for her hard work on creating the new menu items that not only have to fit the government school lunch standards but were also very delicious. And she uh must find how to balance enjoyable taste with cost nutrition. And it also has to fit the USDA and WDOPI regulations. So each meal must include [snorts] fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy with also staying in the limits of calories, sugar, fat, and sodium. And the snacks must meet a lot of requirements, too. For example, they have
to be within uh 200 calories. So a huge shout out to Miss Glor. So thank you very much. Um, Matilda could also not make it tonight. So, um, I'll be talking about the oral time and extension day enrichments that we've been offering. Um, students have reported a lot of positive feedback regarding these. And some of the ones that we've held so far is the PD fire education career OT, the breakout edu, oral zone, AP prep, and stitch fix. Um and then going back to the PD fire um career experience, we had very high attendance for that and we got lots of positive feedback from students. Some even saying that they would like another session. And Officer TJ, Officer Zens, and Officer Parker and Flash came in and talked to the kids. And kids got to
see Flash demonstrate how he handles different situations such as snipping out drugs and how they would do a real life situation if there was somebody trying to attack them. And then the EMTs and also came in and they brought stretchers and some other items that they use when they go out in the field. And kids got to see how they use some of the items such as blood pressure. And we also just scheduled our second session with Officer TJ so he can come in and talk to students again. >> Any questions or comments at this time? >> Do any board members have any comments or questions? I do, but I thought I'd give it to you for me. All right, this is my last chance at a meeting to say this to you guys. I
just want to say thank you so much. Um, your reports are definitely a high point of our meetings for me. It's really great to get a glimpse into the school day through your eyes. The information you share is just precious and priceless and we all take away a lot from it. It helps us all get to know you and our school a whole lot better. Um, Owen, thank you for explaining the teacher of the year process. That was awesome. I really personally didn't exactly know all the nuances that went into that. So, thank you. Um, the sources of strengths updates from Molen Jackson were awesome. Thank you. Really good to hear about that. Um, HHS booties, Jessica sounds really fun and amazing. I'm really glad that's happening here. And, uh, Brianna, the extension day enrichment
activities. Wow, what cool opportunities for kids. So, thank you very much for sharing. Thank you very much for your commitment to being here at our schoolboard meeting. It's really awesome for you to be a part of this with us. Thank you. Let's give a round of applause. [applause] And then next is our superintendent report. All right. So, just wanted to recognize we had 13 of our singers who [clears throat] auditioned for the Wisconsin School Music Association State Honors Choir in February. So, super exciting. We had five students all who sing at Bass and were offered a spot um at the State Honors Mix Choir. And even more impressive, um there are only 25 spots for that position and five of those were offered to our H2Hs singers. So absolutely u a testament to their strength
and quality of certainly are the students that we have um and the staff that are supporting them. So super exciting. Also just wanted to mention Skills USA. We had 21 of our students represented at the state competition in Madison. I think that's correct right Mr. Helms. and we had 14 medals earned and several students are heading over to the national stage and I think what's so impressive is just a variety of areas that we have and the students earning medals. So, we had third place finishers and automated manufacturing and aviation maintenance and medical math and um state champions in teamworks, Charlie Krauss, uh Brooke Doan, Nate Weber, Carter Redlings, medical math, Anna Flanders, Facilon, Drew Krauss, aviation maintenance, Zach Lobert. So, they're all heading um it's just awesome. First place, it's just [clears throat] amazing.
They're all heading down to Atlanta, Georgia. Um so super proud of our students and this the diversity of different areas that of the talent that's coming out. Uh also just wanted to thank both uh Mr. Todd Bolman and Jenny Gillan for running for the HHS board. A huge congrats to Jenny Gillan and we're super excited and look forward to working with her soon and excited for what she is going to bring to the role. Uh wanted to just mention as well our strategic planning process to date. So our continuous improvement team formed this past fall and has met on four occasions and these sessions have really focused on mastering the tools and the univers universal language needed for the successful planning process. So by really establishing this foundation, our leaders are going to be well
prepared to facilitate the larger stakeholder group as well. And so we'll send out a save a date for that, but it will be June 1st will be an offering at 6 PM as well as June 17th from 3:00 to 5:00. And again, we'll send out a save the date for that next week. But just wanted to mention um that update. And we've already really been looking at identifying our strengths and the core aspects that we want to sustain the many many great pieces within our system while also looking at opportunities for enhancement for students, families, staff, and community. And so we will move forward and develop some key performance indicators for those identified goal areas. Um, and then really our next steps are we're completing our one-page strategic plan in May. Um, that will have
those key goal areas May 28th at the board workshop. We'll be moving forward to bring that to the board with the goal areas as well as our key performance indicators. And then, as I had mentioned, June 1st and June 17th, we'll be opening up for a larger community input session. and then in August bringing our entire overall presentation to the board with all of our input over time in September with our implementation launch. So just wanted to send a huge thank you to our entire comm community uh continuous improvement planning team. These are all day um sessions and just the time and investment and energy that they bring is phenomenal. So huge thank you to Tammy Rosma Scott Helms, Monica Glorioso, Mallerie Smith, Laura Trap, Chris Callahan, Russ, Randy Lusty, Kelly Lamb, Kathleen Mlean, Pat
Dodie, David Lynch, Rob Nelson, Steve Schlley, Steve, Kelly, >> Valerie Verhance, Ben Hoffman, Desiree Ramlo, Jason Krauss, Emily Schumacher, and Tracy Hennis. So huge thank you to that group. Um just really excited moving forward. Also wanted to mention the which the student board reps did a phenomenal job talking about the therapy dog program and just super grateful um for Miss Ramlo and Miss Roxy being here. I've heard a lot of personal stories for students and connections and just way that ways that it has really helped um interestingly academically as we would expect um and also from an emotional standpoint. So really exciting. I don't know Miss RM if there's anything you want to add related to that. Um, a common question is, does she get paid? And the answer is yes, through pets because she
is a lover and so it really is a mutually reciprocal, right, beneficial relationship. Um, and then she sleeps the rest of the week. [laughter] >> Awesome. Well, thank you, Miss Raml. I know we there was a lot of planning that went into obviously the execution of this process and, you know, >> it's fantastic. So, >> thank you. Thank you. And then last but not least, I just wanted to say a few words about Tracy and I would also invite the board when I am done as well um if there is anything additional. But we had um Miss Happy if you want to bring something forward, but um I'll just start while you're heading on up. So serving on the board for 16 years is truly an incredible commitment of time and energy. And tonight we
want to recognize Tracy for her long-standing dedication to this role and many years also as a president. Leading a board requires a significant personal sacrifice and really willing to step into the arena regardless of what is transpiring. And she has been a constant presence through n presence through numerous transitions serving as president during several transitional moments in our HUS history. We acknowledge the hundreds of hours probably thousands that she has spent at this table and the weight of the responsibility she carried in in the leadership roles. So we want to thank her for her dedication to the process of governance over a decade and a half and we thank her for the years of service she has truly given to the district and we really hope this next chapter as I had mentioned to her
allows her the time to really truly trade the boardroom for time with her family, garden, animals and more. and I personally wish her joy in being able to prioritize her own passions and just really wish you the best in your future endeavors. >> So, thank you, Tracy. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Want me to open this now or or later? >> If you would like and if any other board members, I invite you as well if you would like to say anything. Well, I would just like to say as a um you know, I used to be able to say I was a rookie board member, but now I can't anymore. Um but coming on as a new board member, not knowing what to expect um I think that you Tracy laid the groundwork of
the expectations um the foundation, I hope that we can continue that momentum because things that were thrown at us, I think collectively we worked really well as a board to face those headwinds, face adversity, and celebrate all the great things that have happened as well. So, um, kudos for all your leadership and, um, you know, take this moment and just relish it because I know you because you're like me, you'll go on to the next thing and just go, "Oh, thank you. I'm on the next thing." But just savor the moment. It's did an amazing job and um, uh, kept us kept us on our toes and kept us um, I think from a learning standpoint, too. I learned a lot of what it entails to be a board member. So, thank you. >> Thank
you. >> I'll jump in next. Uh Tracy, it has been a absolute honor to serve with you and learn from you over the last two years. So, you know, I think we've done a lot of great things on this board together and I truly appreciate the dedication and passion you put towards this position. So, the things I've taken away from you over uh you know, how a school board uh member operates has just been wonderful. So, it's been great serving with you and you know the role of the VP with you and you know truly hope you enjoy uh your life after serving here. So, thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> Well, as one of the rookies then [laughter] I'll just say, you know, it's been limited but incredible direction, great leadership. You
know, I I have gleaned a ton from from serving on the same board with you. Um so, I appreciate that. Thank you. Best of luck in your in your future endeavors. May God bless it immensely. >> Thank you. >> And I just want to say Heather kind of took the words right out of my mouth. You were a great leader, great mentor to kind of help get us started or get me started on the board. I didn't know I knew what I was expecting or what to expect, but not everything to expect and your leadership and guidance kind of really helped me feel so comfortable here, very welcome here. Um, we're going to really miss that leadership that you brought with you. Um, and it's not goodbye. We'll see you around. >> Yes, I will
be around. Thank you so much. I'm gonna open this so everybody can see it. I can see it. Cool. It's a Harford Union High School cutting board. And then it's engraved on the back. It says, "In grateful recognition of Tracy Hennis for dedicated service on the HHS board of education 2010 to 2026." Thank you very much. This is lovely. Thank you, Tracy. I like that it's the board. We're getting on the board. [laughter] >> And these are gorgeous, but I can't see Rob. So, I might [laughter] just put them in the back corner. >> Yeah. >> Awesome. That way they can still be in the shot, but they're >> Thank you. Now I [snorts] can see everybody. Um, so I guess it's my turn next, right, Stacy? Yes. School board. >> Yes. All right. Um,
I'm impressed I didn't cry. Hopefully that'll maintain, but I might get emotional. So, because this is an emotional night for me, I did print everything out just because I want to stay on track. I will hope you know my heart that this is genuine. Um, I I love serving on this board and it's been an immense blessing. I'm going to start by saying April and May are are big months for our district and our school board. Congratulations to Jenny Gillan for being elected to the board at HHS. And thank you also to Todd Bolman for running the election as well. It does take a level of care and commitment and frankly courage to run in an election. And I commend both Jenny and Todd for stepping forward for this election and and my current fellow
board members for the times that you have run in in elections as well and hopefully will again in the future. I think you guys are all amazing and I would love to see you stay on this board for as long as you are willing. Um I love our community. I love how so many people prioritize the greater good of our students, our schools, and our neighbors. Our schoolboard elections have historically involved a healthy level of friendly competition and mutual respect. There are a variety of messages that go around in a campaign season and I want to address the text messages that some of you may have received recently from a national political action committee or pack in support of a board candidate. These messages contain statements that did not apply to HHS and may have
caused concern or could be divisive in nature. They were sent by the Moms for Liberty Action Pack, which is a national organization completely independent of any local state Moms for Liberty chapters. It's my understanding that these messages were sent to other school districts in Wisconsin in support of other endorsed candidates as well. All decision-making and messaging from this pack is not in coordination with any local chapter or candidate and it legally cannot be. So, I just wanted to clarify that tonight. I would also like to stress that at HHS we should be incredibly proud of our approach to many domains such as academics, post high school preparation, safety, stakeholder engagement, fiscal responsibility, and our overall accountability. Our school board has repeatedly demonstrated that we act as loyal stewards to all of our stakeholders. Our school
board members also appreciate hearing from anybody in our community, all of our stakeholders. I will say over 16 years on the board. I wish I would have heard from our community more. I mean, it was there was a big month there where we heard a lot which was awesome. Um, but just know that schoolboard members do appreciate hearing from you. They want to represent you. We all try to keep our our fingers on the pulse of our community and talk to many people as we can, but we do want to hear and learn more from you. Um, this is my last meeting at HHS as a school board member. It has been 16 years since I first joined the board. I was appointed the first year and then ran in five elections. It's funny because
I really never thought I'd get into anything political. I grew up in a family where we didn't discuss politics at all. I was super uncomfortable with it, but I was working in a local school and somebody approached me and said, "Hey, there's a board opening at the high school. Would you be interested in applying for it?" And so, it was that little nudge, that encouragement that got me started and set me into having a whole different perspective when it comes to being civically engaged in our communities. So, I encourage anybody who's listening, if you feel you have got that level of care and commitment and courage to find out more about running for a board member seat and get involved. Um, the opportunity to serve my community and school district in this manner has been
one of the biggest blessings of my life. I'd like to thank the board members who first appointed me and took me under their wing as a new member then. as well. I'd like to thank all those who continue to encourage me and support me over the years, especially my husband and my three children. No one will ever truly know or understand the sacrifices they made while I was in this role. I've seen and been through a lot in 16 years here and there have been some rough patches, but there have been so many times of growth, joy, innovation, and success realized by all of you. Huh. HHS is a huge source of pride in our community. Thank you to everyone who's been a part of the journey. In this year, I've witnessed how our schoolboard
leadership team, teachers, and staff rolled up their sleeves and got to work to bring our Harford Union High School District to the amazing position and positive trajectory that we know today. I mean, we all have so much to be proud of here and it has been a blessing every single year, but I know the amount of work and tough tasks that went into the recent year and a half here or so. So, thank you to you all. Um, life is good and the future is bright here at HHS. It's not just a slogan. It really is good and it has been an absolute blessing and an honor to serve you. I do look forward to continuing to cheer HUHS on and stay engaged as a community member from the other side of this table. So,
I'm not going away. I'll still be here and um I do hope that there will be future generations of Hendes here as well as students. So, thank you very much. [applause] Didn't get too choked up there. Um and then our our last report is our winter athletics and activities report for Mr. Helms. >> [clears throat] >> Just real quick, I wanted to uh summarize all the different winter activities, both athletics and our clubs and activities. Um had a good athletic winter season, uh three conference championships with our girls basketball program, gymnastics and girls wrestling. Um, we also saw a couple regional championships, the girls basketball and wrestling, uh, and some state qualifiers as well. Um, saw four of our student athletes recognized in the conference as either the athlete or player of the year. Girls
basketball was Bella Clagus. Um, Ruby Nitel Nitel uh, in girls wrestling, Aiden Growy in boys wrestling, and then Mackenzie Gashinsky in gymnastics. So, a great winter season there. um with many of them being also honored as all state. Um McKenzie and Reese Phillips um Haley Kipper, Aya Washinsky and Ashley Alexander all in gymnastics all state girls basketball and Rita Kipper boys swimming Finn Nelson boys wrestling Parker Nye Jacob KD Jacob Rool and Aiden Groki and then Ruby again in girls wrestling. So great athletic season during the winter. Um on the other side of clubs and activities, um you can see that our numbers are very healthy again. Uh our numbers continue to rise and steady pace there with all the different groups. Uh we've added a few new ones this year. We saw the bird
club earlier that Roxy was there. Um maybe I'll have to bring Wilson in. He might want to join the bird club, too. >> Wilson's a cat. [laughter] >> Probably not welcome, but um in Deca, we we A lot of these you've heard before, but I just still wanted to mention them. and DECA. We had three students heading to nationals. Uh Stuco, we had another successful dodgeball tournament just recently where the tournament raised funds for the Hall family. Best Buddies, uh an outstanding, uh bingo night. I would suggest coming back next year if you have a chance. Um they also attended uh the Brewer game and a very uh eventful weather weather event while many of them took shelter at Hamfam Field last night. um H club uh many service hours throughout the winter uh for
our student athletes, well over 2,000 hours there. Um skills, which we just mentioned, they'll be going to Atlanta and seven different students going there. In June, esports, McCoy and his team, uh we qualified our first group to state in Rocket League. Um so that's great to see the kids that are interested in esports, snowboarding, we are state champs for the third time in a row. Uh we qualified six individuals to nationals. Um, and just recently, uh, we came back from nationals and Charlie Wick, one of our freshman, uh, was the national champ in giant slom and regular slom. So, awesome to hear about Charlie's success while out in Colorado. U, we saw Jane [clears throat] Beliki, uh, qualify in chess, taking 10th place at state. Our dance and cheer teams both qualified for state with
cheer taking third in non-tumble and fifth in cheer dance. And then uh just last week we saw uh NHS hold their induction ceremony. We saw 131 students recognize 78 new members into our NHS uh group. Um another service organization that we're very proud of as they had over 2,300 hours in our community. So quick summary, you can read the other 12 pages in your board packet. >> Thanks. [laughter] >> Thank you, Mr. H. >> Yep. [clears throat] Uh, next on our agenda are items for discussion and possible action. Starting with our HHS musical theater department New York City field trip. It's an update. Hello. Um, exciting things. We are six weeks away from leaving our wonderful town of Hartford and heading towards New York City. Uh, there were 31 students. We did have a couple
students at I think since last we met and uh six chaffron seven including myself uh heading there. Um I have an the itinerary is pretty much the same as before. Um I we have our next parent meeting scheduled for May 12th um with presentation if you would like that I can share that with you as well. And um yeah, the big thing is that any student that's over the age of 18 needs to make sure they have a real real ID for travel. Now, myself included since my driver's license is so old. I'm going to have to go in and get that new real ID. So, um that's pretty much the big thing. Uh singing opportunity at Statue of Liberty. Um we're going to trying to put together a patriotic medley to do there as
we will be visiting uh on Memorial Day. And we've got uh the students are given a survey on shows and that still we're in the process of whittling that down and uh the agency giving us the okay on what what where we're at with the numbers and stuff. So, any questions? >> Thank you for your work on this and for being here again tonight. Um, it's it's exciting that this is happening for our students and I know there's a lot of work that goes into it. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Um, next item for discussion and possible action is HHS music choir department New York City field trip proposal for April 27th. Do we have anyone who's going to be presenting or talking about this one? >> You want to touch on that? >>
I don't think there's anything additional, but board members have um information regarding this in our packets. Yeah, there's a detailed piece in there. So, they're doing both a workshop and a performance um with a conductor including they're also doing the Broadway shows and the inner theater as well. So, if you take a peek on there, have a really great opportunity. >> Looks like a great opportunity. It looks like there is no cost the district correct. >> No, the the maximum per student will be 2400. >> 2,400 max for the transportation, hotels, the meal as well as the activities. Thank you. >> Any comments or questions from board members? >> Nothing from me. >> Hearing none. or a board member would like to make a motion for action. >> Yeah. I'll motion to approve the HHS
music and choir department New York City field trip >> proposal. >> I'll second a motion by no one's jacket. Second by Heather Barry. Any further discussion? Hearing none. Let's put it to vote. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposing? And that has been approved unanimously. Our next item on the agenda is our library plan. >> Sure. So, I would just like to thank the board again for a really great conversation at the last board workshop. Um, I did not have Miss Baltimore stay for this as well because we have seen the library plan twice now. Um, so just a reminder with that that we do have to submit a library plan to DPI. Um, and that it is rooted in their framework for future ready learning. And that with our library plan, we
do really focus on three different pillars. Academic and career planning, the use of technology, um, and curating a robust collection. Um, so at that board workshop, we had a couple of asks from the board um, somewhat related to the library plan that just came out of that discussion. one was just a really quick visual for you to see some of the interesting statistics that Miss Altaltimore had talked about before. So, that visual is linked as an infographic in the board packet um which I thought was really interesting. This also ties into our use of um instructional AI because I just uploaded all of her statistics and that took no time at all for that to be made. Um, one of the things definitely to celebrate is the amount of work that she has put in
in terms of curating the collection, whether it be through um, weeding or adding new items. And then also the fact that we have had a 33% increase in um, materials that students who haven't had access to the library before now have access to. So that is also just a really great visual to have. So, I appreciated that ask for sure because it was just interesting to see how that played out. Um, and then another one of the asks was we know that we have AGS that outline um, excuse me, in administrative guidelines that outline the selection and the deselection process. Um, but I think we also all know that sometimes those are really tedious to read through. So, one of the asks was to just sort of bullet point the process that Miss Altaltimore and
myself both use in terms of selection and deselection for library materials. [snorts] Um and while we again acknowledge that there is access to board policy and administrative guidelines, we also added this to the library website so that parents and students and um community members, teachers, anybody in the building can easily access this information um and just have that up there as well. So, just as we transition into approval of the library plan, wanted to touch base on those two asks that the board had had from the workshop. >> Any board members have any comments or questions? >> I just want to thank again, Miss Sult. I think that she did a a fantastic job going through and the improvements that she's made in just a short time are incredible. Um, I love to see that
the library is getting used as much as it is. um by students and staff and even all of us now. Um so I think it's wonderful. Thank you very much. >> Thank you, Tiffany. Um any other board members have any comments or questions? >> Could be a a bullet pointed guide for growing and subtracting to the collection. It's very helpful. So thank you for putting that together. >> Sure. >> I echo all of that. Um it's been wonderful to have Miss Almore on board as a library specialist here. And Stevie, I know you put a lot of work into this as well. Those two extra pieces when the board just wanted a little bit more information are really valuable. It'll be valuable not just for us this day but for any parents going to the
website or anybody else frankly just it puts it nice and clear and concise and um probably answers some questions or guides people with different kinds of questions if they need more details I think is wonderful. Thank you so much. >> Any other comments or questions from board members? I was just saying would like to say that her energy and enthusiasm is really appreciated because you know it's more than a book and there's a lot more behind it than just the books on the shelves. So it's appreciated and hopefully she'll keep that momentum going because she's she's very um energetic and vivacious. So >> she's definitely found her passion. >> We've seen that for sure. >> Awesome. >> Yeah. Seeing seeing her energy and passion for it like gosh that looks like a fun job to
get into. makes you want to go back to school. >> And I [laughter] would love that a couple years ago really she Yeah, she's doing a great job. We're so lucky to have her here. >> Um, is there a board member who'd like to make a motion? >> I'll motion to approve the library plan as presented. >> I'll second. >> A motion by Kenneth Miller, second by Tiffany Stapleton to approve the library plan as presented. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any post say nay. And that carries and is approved unanimously. Thank you. The next item up for discussion and possible action is our technology sw switch replacement. >> All right. Good evening. Hi, M. So, we've brought this a couple times now to you. I think this is our third read. So,
I have Jonathan here and um McCoy here, our awesome team. So, we're here for any questions. Um, pretty much the exact same thing is in your packet as we presented at the workshop. So, we don't [clears throat] Are there any more questions that you have? I would just say thank you for taking the time to come to the workshop and to dig into a little bit more detail and answer those questions we had at the first meeting. That was really valuable. And that's why I'm glad we have those workshops scheduled in between meetings because that's a great opportunity to dig into things like this one as well as the library plan. >> Um any questions or comments for them from other board members? >> Nothing from me. I feel like I've seen everything pretty thoroughly.
So, thank you for that. >> Okay. Is there a board member who would like to make a motion for action? I'll motion to approve the technology switch replacement not to exceed $241,39010 as presented. >> Have a motion by Kenneth Miller. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Tiffany Stapleton. So, we have a motion and a second to approve the technology switch replacement not to exceed $241,39010 as presented. This is a cost of the district. So, we'll do a roll call vote starting with Nolan. >> I Tiffany. I >> I >> thank you. That has been approved and passed unanimously. Um >> our our next item is our Thank you very much is our 2026 2027 board meeting and workshop proposed schedule. This is a first look. So if you notice any any
dates that you have concerns about, now is a great time to bring them up to administration so they can maybe go back to the drawing board a little bit and then bring it back again probably next month. And just to note, most regular board meetings would be held on that third Wednesday of each month and most workshops would be held on the first Thursday of the month. And just to note, there's a couple exceptions including holiday breaks, no schools. There's like, for example, the contract timeline discussions which require a May board meeting. So there's some formal um deadlines that is the reason for some of the um suggestions that are in there. And to let's see here compact for example um the board workshop on November 5th for example we would need to meet on
October 29th um see here >> to certify the tax levy. Can you see if there's any others? So just suggested to potentially move that up as that would be a very short brief meeting. Um and then they could be combined versus having a very short meeting and then coming back a week later. Um one of them I believe is was originally scheduled for the day of service and so just moving that up a week. We also looked at the distribution of the dates as well when we were considering suggested dates to move to. So if we take a peek if there's any questions uh certainly let us know or other conflicting dates that anyone in the room or anyone beyond would see that we missed. >> Absolutely. Sometimes it takes another set of eyes to
kind of help us realize these things. Any comments or questions from board or administration present on these dates? >> Only question comment. I know during one of the workshops we we had kind of talked about or I mentioned What would be the possibility of considering rather than the the workshops being on the first Thursday? Mhm. >> I don't know if it's possible, but the the the fourth Thursday just because again, you know, taking time off and and wanting to go places, you know, if people are committed to being here for these things, if you kind of block those within a 8 day, 9 day window of each other, then that opens up >> the whole rest of the month for for travel and other stuff. So again, I don't know if anybody else is interested
in in in changing that, but >> so having consecutive weeks. So I think the wondering I would have is would you then flip the regular board meeting and if so they were chosen because a lot of times the workshop will be a prep for the board meeting of something you approved. So would you flip it? And then if so many of the or the third Wednesday was strategic in the sense that the area schools also I don't have that right in front of me have board meetings the fourth week and we were trying to avoid the same night. So that would be my only wondering and that's not to say we couldn't. >> I see what you're saying. And in my head, I was just thinking that the the workshop after that same month's board
meeting was really more for the next month's board meeting. So your workshop would always >> Sure. Sure. >> be really a month ahead of the next month's board meeting. >> So just >> semantics. >> The only thing I would add to that is having them spaced two weeks apart from a personnel recommendation standpoint. if we have to hire someone, it's it's a little easier to have it in that same kind of every two week um where we might have to wait a little longer to hire someone. I know it's it's a small part of it, but definitely a consideration. >> Gotcha. That's a part something to take into consideration. Okay. >> Something to keep in mind. I get what you're saying, Ken. I mean, I I can see both scenarios. The personal recommendations does add
an extra little layer of of something to there. Um but keep in mind, too, that We really don't want to move regular board meetings as much as possible. Workshops, we have historically been a little bit more flexible on cancelling or moving. So I would say as board members, you know, keep that in mind. If you know, my family typically goes on a vacation, for example, in April. I don't know if this this time is going to work out for our family again next year. Like maybe adjust a couple of them or bring it up, >> you know, a month or two prior and see what can be done as a group. So, just just throwing that out there. >> I do love I really do like that we've gotten back into a workshop model. Um,
we've had some really great opportunities to dig into some topics a little bit further, get a better understanding before we're at a school board regular meeting where we have so much packed in. >> Agreed. >> Um, any other comments about dates? >> Nothing sticks out to me very much. Everything should be fine. And you know, Ken, same thing too. So, I mean, I'm willing to work with you on potentially moving workshops in the future if we have to. So, it's never historically been a problem, at least in the last two years that I've been here. >> Gotcha. Thanks. >> All right. So, I think we're done with that topic. Our next one is our 2025 I'm sorry. Yeah. 2025 2026 budget amendment. So, uh, last July or at the end of each fiscal year, so
our June 30th, um, the board has the opportunity if there's funds, excess revenues over expenditures, um, that they can transfer money to, uh, fund 46 to be used at a future date for items in our long-term capital improvement pro uh, fund uh, area. So, we have a 10-year plan that we have to have as a district. Um, last July we the board approved that a $400,000 uh transfer from fund 10 to fund 46. We needed to have a what we found out is we needed to have a separate um checking account for that and we didn't have it in place in July last year. So the the auditor didn't allow that to transact. So it went to fund balance in fund 10. So, what we're asking the board to do is amend the current budget
by that same 400,000 in fund 10. So, increase what was approved back in October by $400,000 to create a new expenditure that will then transfer that to fund 46 in this year's budget without adversely affecting this year's budget. So, by reducing the amount of money we have to operate this year by 400,000, we're bringing this um budget amendment to the board um to consider um to allow that. We do have that um checking account or or savings account in place now. Um so, we can do that. Um the um the attachment uh in the board docs is the format that we need to follow for um DPI purposes. And then if the board approves it, we need a at a minimum of twothirds approval of the board uh tonight to approve it. And then um
we have to one of the ways we can post it on our uh website of that budget amendment much like we did in October when we finalized the 2526 budget and the tax levy. Um that it goes on our website uh if people want to see what changed, what the board approved in addition to what's in board docs. Thank you, Rob. Um, any questions from board members for Rob? >> Not from me. >> Nope. >> I have a technical question. Um, if the board does make a motion to approve this, is this a roll call vote? >> I don't think that's marking on yours. I thought it >> Yeah, it's not marked. I I assumed it is, but I just want to clarify. Okay. All right. Thank you. Any other comments or questions? >> Is
there a board member who would like to make a motion for action? >> I can make the motion to approve the 2025 2026 budget amendment as presented. >> Thank you. Motion by Tiffany Stapleton. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Nolan Jacket. Any further discussion? Hearing none, we will put this to a roll call vote. We have a motion and a second to approve the 2025 2026 budget amendment as presented. I start with myself. I Tiffany. I >> I I >> thank you. That has been unanimously approved. Our next item for discussion and possible action is a CISA 6 2026 2027 payroll [clears throat] agreements. >> So back in January, we brought to the board um to to bring on CISA 6 to handle our payroll. Um I will say it's been
going very well. um they've done a lot to clean up our you know 20 plus years of different people doing payroll um within Skyward. Um we're streamlining our processes um with them and we're I think we're at a much better spot of getting that information um to the payroll group uh which is myself um Danielle from CISA 6 and Jenny and Christy in our office. So better checks and balances as well. Um, we told you back in January we most likely would be bringing this forward. We wanted to see how it worked. Was it doing what we thought it would and and we're I I can say that I'm impressed with Danielle at CISA 6. She's very good at what she does and bringing ideas to us and then we have to figure out are
some of those changes things that make sense at Hartford or not. Um, so we're in that process of looking at for next year. How do we how do we better plan and and make sure that we're paying out people in the manner that we would expect, that we've got the right people with the right deductions for the insuranceances they carry. Um, some things that I think we have some better process in place right now. Um, and and more shared information amongst the four of us. So, um I'd like the board to um consider um approving the agreement for the 20 the full 2627 school year. So, July 1 through June 30th uh July uh one of 26 through June 30th, 2027 at an amount of $27,400. >> Thank you, Mr. Nelson. Any questions or comments
for Mr. Nelson or the administration? So overall, you think they've been very effective at solving the problems you saw on payroll? >> Yeah. And I wouldn't I wouldn't say there were problems. We didn't have great processes in place, right? And document best, you know, best the best way I can describe it is we have this monster Google doc that is shared, right? So there's a tab for every think of every benefit that we offer, health insurance, dental insurance, vision where we're getting better at tying that out each payroll. Um and we'll have a a make sure that when changes are made we are sharing that information amongst each other. Uh it goes into that document and then we make sure we're making adjustments to the individual employees to make sure we don't miss something. Right?
There's more eyes on it than maybe we had in the past. So I again I'm it's a it's something that we could have done but not as quickly I think and and with as much expertise as what someone from like Danielle at CISA does. um she's worked in smaller districts, she's worked in bigger districts, and now she's doing this with, you know, districts of all size. So, it's it's it's nice to have that resource as well. >> Thank you, Mr. Nelson. Any further comments or questions? Uh hearing none. Is there a board member who would like to make a motion for action? I'll motion to approve the season 6 payroll agreement for the 2026 2027 school year not to exceed $27,400 as presented. >> Thank you. Motion by Kenneth Miller, second by Heather Barry. So
we have a motion and a second to approve C6 payroll agreement for the 2026 2027 school year not to exceed $27,400 as presented. This again will be a roll call vote. We'll start with you Tiffany. I >> I And that has been approved unanimously. Unanimously. Thank you. The next item for discussion and possible action is the 2026 van purchase. >> So, I'd like to um thank Scott for helping me put this together. Um we currently have seven vans um that we utilize for transporting students to you know off off-campus um different placements to uh athletic events, co-curricular events. Um our oldest van is a 2014 with over 100,000 miles on our newest vans are 2019. So um we may actually be a little late. Maybe we should have been looking, you know, in the last
year or so to start that replacement cycle. Um, so what we're looking to do is purchase a 2026 van. We have state pricing from EWT Ford here in Hartford. Um, one thing that I will say is a standard Ford van comes as a 12 passenger and you can only have a 10 counting the driver and be legal for schools to utilize them in the state of Wisconsin. So there is um part of the the cost that we have listed here at $69,735. Uh and that doesn't include any if we trade the van in that we have or if we sell it outright. So we're just taking what we have now um with what we would need to replace it to have the board look to approve. Um there's a company that will then go reconfigure
this van so it only seats 10 counting the driver and reertify it. So the reertification is the big part of that process that it was designed for 12. It's being reconfigured and they are taking on that that risk that liability as a reertification. Um I did check this out with a couple of other my sources having been in the transportation world of hey is this meet muster? And it does. Um there are a number of districts in the state that have gone down this path with this type of van. Um, so it'll look a lot like the vans we currently have, the Ford vans. It's just it will be configured to have um that 10 total and there'll be some room behind those back seats to to all any luggage or equipment or things that
the groups have. So, um I would expect that maybe over the next year or two we'd probably come back and and look at this uh to continue that replacement process. Um, with the reconfiguration, the best way and the best way to buy it is to order out a a van. They have one that was on order, but it's got a lot higher spec on it of things we don't need uh and a lot higher cost uh to that. So, um, this would allow us to, if approved, place that order with Ford, and then when it comes in go, it probably would go directly to the converter before it comes into to EW, get the conversion done, and then when it comes in, it's probably a five, six month process at a minimum. So, um, this
is an expense that we're budgeting for in the 2627 school year budget already. Um, or at least it's in my budget currently. So, that that there's two parts to that. one, the approval so we can place the order, but two, knowing it is becoming a part of next year's budget. It's not coming out of this year's budget, even though we did have some dollars earmarked in the building's ground budget this year to do it. Um, the timeline kind of threw me off. I didn't realize it was going to take that long. Um, but if you know the the the van world, most of the vans are going to Amazon, they're going to FedEx, um, they're going to different, uh, places that are going to use them in a in a different manner that are probably
paying a little more than a state price for a van. >> Okay, you have something. >> Are uh, our other vans 10 or 12 seats currently? >> They're all seven or eight, I think. >> Oh, okay. So, would we not be allowed to just buy it as is with 12 and just only carry 10 people in it? >> No, that's that's the key there. You can't because it was it came as a 12 passenger from Ford. So, it would not technically be legal. It's the reertifiguration [clears throat] reertification from that company that allows us to use it as a van in a school district in Wisconsin. >> Okay. Okay. And then that five to six month benchmark is just there for the time it takes them to do that. >> Well, it's it's actually order
from Ford. So order from Ford, get it built and then get it moved to the the reertification or the you know the reconfiguration place to allow them to do it and then get it actually to us. >> Okay. So you order that directly from Ford and not through EW. >> We would No, it' be through Okay. >> Yes. Any other questions or comments? >> Yes. >> So, if you order it from Ford, why can't you order it? I mean, granted, if you if you reconfigure it, obviously you you get to reconfigure it as a 10 passenger. What's the max passenger you can order it from? Or Ford, can you not order an eight passenger from them anymore? >> You can't order it anymore. Yeah. I think they used to make a 10 >> and they
standardized it to 12 or 15. I think in some of those vans you could actually get another row in where you could get up to 14 or 15 total. >> Okay. >> When were those discontinued? >> Uh it's been in the last couple years. >> Years you don't see them like there's nothing on in the market. They even looked on the market elsewhere to see if there's something even used with low mileage that we've been there. Nothing out there. So, we did looked on the looking for a used van path. >> Yeah, they they looked everywhere for us. >> Okay. >> You said that van currently has over 100,000 miles. Are we talking, you know, close to I guess I I look at it many cars have over 100k? It has it been the has
the routine maintenance been done on it regularly, like oil changes and filter changes and all that. >> It's the it's the sitting for periods of time during the year. you know, think of summer, we don't utilize them as much. Um, it depends on also how we utilize them during the school year with the different programs we're taking students to and from during the day. So, I think they're good at kind of rotating those through. Um, so it's not a, hey, this thing is wore out. Um, but definitely maintenance and longer term care of sitting is a lot harder on a vehicle. >> So, what is the condition of it then? Currently, >> I believe it's in fairly decent shape. >> Shape and spend spend at the shop a couple times for other issues besides the
regular maintenance. >> Do we service it in our auto shop or do you take it somewhere else? >> We take it someplace else. >> Okay. >> So, it's been maintained regularly. One of the worst things for a vehicle, you know, sitting is tires >> uh and brakes. Yeah. Um and it's only used for the most part. I'm assuming that you get to choose from your pool. So, you know, the higher mileage vehicle is probably mostly used for the local running around and and you tend to save the lower mileage ones for the longer trips that are outside the district and stuff. >> And that one happens to be a a Chevy van. That's the the bigger you call the fullsize van, a little bit bigger. So, fuel economy is a little bit different than maybe
the 2019 that's on a Ford Transit chassis. We made sure this one has a trailer hitches. Not all of our vans have trailer hitches because we do use trailers for FFA, robotics, and things like that, football. Um, and somebody would have cruise control. So, those that go on longer trips to go with certain vans just because you use cruise control. >> And I my last question, is there ever a time where all the vans are out at the same time? Yes, there there are many times you don't have enough vans and [snorts] I try to use the vans as much as possible for athletic events to save cost on transportation especially on overnights. The last thing we want to do is send a bus with a driver forum hotel overnight. So we try and take
bands where whenever we can and our coaches do an awesome job with that >> and I'll say coming from the school bus world like it was tough precoid finding enough drivers it's been even more difficult. So even though you know we might be easy to say why don't we use rightway for some of those pieces a lot of times they can't provide the bus and the driver at the times we need them to get you know especially for events that are after school right during the day it's a little bit easier but that's probably a time after school is when we're utilizing all our vans more consistently and it does pack into you know a couple months each season um and there's going to be that downtime where we're not using them as as much.
>> M Rammo, did you have anything else to add to? You do a nice job during the day really orchestrating. >> Well, I was I was just um able to nod my head enthusiastically that there are days where we really do have um a conflict. We need more bands. And so I know in the packet it's listed CISA and MPTC as examples. Um those programs are what I present to you on our at risk annual report, right? our alternative education numbers. Um I expect that we'll stay solid in needing to always essentially have about 20 students per year who will be off campus for their credit work. Um and those are really unique routes to Westbend. Um we've gone to New London for a really unique um organization that can serve right behavioral needs and
those come first before athletics, you know, when a conflict arises. So like Scott said, he does an awesome job to avoid rightway, but then sometimes it's even not possible to avoid. Um, and additionally, I would add just on behalf of the drivers who do these academic placement routes, um, they [clears throat] are often stuck in snow and mud because, you know, we're dealing with not SUV type um, features. And so, if we can get the newer vehicles that just have have the the tires and the brakes and the grit, um, they'd be seriously appreciative. in transportation for students, if we're looking at alternative environments that it can start reaching six figures a year. Um Rob can probably chime in on that, but one student for transportation for a year could could reach that >> if
we don't use our drivers. We're soliciting external companies. >> So there's really no no plans to get rid of it. It's it's having an old one but also planning ahead and getting another one so that there's additional bands in y'all's inventory. >> Well, I think the thought was to keep the same number we have just rotate one out, right? But we could make that decision when we get to that point of do we want to hang on. What's the value of that van and does it make sense to keep it for a little longer or is there value in it that maybe it's you know I don't know what the 2014 van is worth, right? when we get to that point when we can get rid of it. Um, but that's a consideration as well.
>> And just to give you a little history, like I'd say five, 10 years ago, we would trade in a van every year and get a new one. Just had a rotation just so that we would keep up. Obviously, with some budget numbers, you know, not being there. We went away from that. Um, we've either traded them in or we've sold them to other school districts. I believe Joint One has one of our old ones that they're using or two. >> We have two, I think. So, it's worked out that way, too. >> From a parent standpoint with having student athletes, um there have been times where my kids have been asked to drive to um a golf meet or a basketball game because there aren't enough they can't get a bus driver and there
aren't enough bands to move the whole team. I would much prefer and I think even from like a team bonding perspective, it's better for the kids to all be on the band together. I, you know, some of our games in like White Fish Bay or Nico or that's quite a distance for my 16 or 17 year old daughter to be driving and I would appreciate having that ability for them to all be on the van um just from a safety perspective. I think that's putting the district at a bit of a liability when we have to ask our students to drive as well. So, >> thank you. Any other comments or questions? So, just to clarify, I think I heard you you answer the question I had in my head. I think no one just
mentioned he had the same question. So, you're going to find out the value of the van to potentially trade in or sell. >> Yeah. >> At the time we get the new van. >> Because right now it's premature. >> Okay. >> Correct. >> All right. Is there a board member who would like question? >> So, it's looking at the the number. So it's looks like the subtotal is what's not not to exceed but it comes down to 61893 afterwards. Is that >> is that I think the 61 was the cost of the Ford part of it and then when you go down >> Oh then you add in >> conversion >> retrofit. >> Oh yeah. Okay, never mind. >> The total total is 69. >> Okay. All right. Thank you, Heather. Is there a board
member who'd like to make a motion for action? >> I will make a motion to approve the purchase of a 2026 Ford Transit 10 passenger van from Ewald Ford not to exceed $69,735 as presented. >> Thank you. We have a motion by Tiffany Stapleton. Is there a second? >> I'll second and a second by Heather Barry. So we have a motion. Is there any further discussion hearing? None. I have a motion and a second to approve the purchase of a 2026 Ford Transit 10 passenger van from Ewald Ford not to exceed $69,735 as presented. Um, this will be a roll call vote and we'll start with you, Heather. >> I no >> I >> and that has been approved. Thank you. Thank you for the conversation everyone. Um the next item for discussion and possible
action is a Wisconsin Association of School Boards. And so thank you. We had a discussion [clears throat] at the board workshop around the cost benefit um of this continuing membership. And so uh we just highlighted in terms of the difference between what's migrating over from board docs to the diligent community is really a $600 difference. um if you are a member versus not being a member. Also, um I know we discussed over time we really haven't [clears throat] utilized the services to a large degree. If we were to attend one of the professional learning opportunities, um [clears throat] the cost of those opportunities versus the overall year membership um really wasn't um in in in terms of being a huge benefit um something that we may want to consider. So, um, I don't know if
anyone else would like to add anything, but I know we really just did kind of an overall costbenefit analysis to it. >> No one. >> No, I think we've had some pretty good discussion on this at our U last meeting and last board workshop. So, I'm pretty comfortable with where we're sitting. So, I guess with that said, I would like to motion Oh, sorry. >> There might be other people. [laughter] >> Sorry. Um, I would just like to thank everyone for having this conversation and to our administration for looking into it as well. Um, it's not easy when you have a discussion about a longstanding organization like this. Um, but it was time to take a good hard look at, you know, what were we utilizing? Where could we realize some savings for the district?
I encourage board members to to also take a look at the other organizations that are offering um workshop and improvement opportunities for board members. Um it doesn't always have to be just one organization we look at. There are a lot of other upandcoming organizations that are offering a really nice balanced um array of opportunities for all of us for in in schoolboard and administration. So I would I would say that this is something that has been um on my mind for some time and I'm really glad that we were able to to discuss this. Um just like Stacy has said before too. Um, if in the future the board decides, hey, I think we need to go back to WASB membership, that's always an opportunity as well. It's always an option. But right now, this
seems like this seems like the right thing to do. So, really appreciate um the work that has gone into it. And we're not alone. Other school districts in the state are are feeling the same way as well. Um, are there any other comments or questions? >> Okay. Um, go ahead, Nolan. I would like to motion to approve the nonrenewal of the Wisconsin Association of School Board membership for the 2026 2022 school year. >> And I would like to second it. Um all those in So we have a motion and a second to approve the non-renewal of the WASB membership for the 2026 2027 school year as presented. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose say nay. And that carries unanimously. Thank you. The next item up for discussion, possible action is the
human growth and development committee for formation. >> Thank you. Um, per Wisconsin statute 18.019, school districts who offer uh a human growth and development curriculum are required to go through a renewal cycle every 3 years. The end of the 2026 2027 school year is when we would bring recommendations to the board as we did um three years ago in terms of alignment with the standards that are provided through those statutes and um what we currently provide students through our health and biology curriculums at the high school. Um my ask of you tonight is to approve the solicitation of members. Per this statute, there's a certain requirement in terms of members who are on this committee and um we need to solicit both parents and community members to ensure that we are within those percentages that
are required for this law. So hopefully looking to solicit um new members for this committee for this next cycle and then bring those back to the board for approval in June so that we can move through the summer and early fall and reviewing that alignment. >> Thank you, Stevie. And where um can people find these applications online >> if if this gets approved? Yeah. How will that be put out there for the >> So when we solicited the last time we did um do it I think solely through Facebook because we did not have parent square messaging set up yet. So now that we have parent square we would also be able to utilize parent square. Um community member applications went out um via Facebook. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Any other questions or comments
from board members >> with all the applicants that come in? who does the vetting and and what criteria do you use to vet? >> So, we um the last time we had done this went through as um myself and the superintendent and then we also reviewed as the instructional district leadership team in terms of vetting. uh there's not an overabundance of applicants in terms of who's applying for those things, but we do look for criteria that are outlined within those applications in terms of um relationship to the district, ensuring that parents are you do have students in the building. Um in terms of community members, the um statutes require that you have to have clergy representation. For example, we only had one person who was interested in that. So there are some um positions within
that committee where we don't have an abundance of applicants and so the the applicant that we had for that we used. Um the other thing that is unique about this committee is that the percent there are certain percentages that can't exceed. So for example, we can't have more than 25% staff representation on the committee and the community members can't make up more than 20% of the committee as well. So we have to have a clergy member on the committee who falls under that community member. Um we have to have a health worker who falls within that number as well. So, while we do review all of the applications, we're al also cognizant of the fact that there are certain roles that have to be fulfilled on this committee as well. um and not adding additional
community members, we then have to go solicit more parents or, you know, so we have to make sure that we're staying within those certain um boundaries of percentages for each of the groups that are represented on the committee. [clears throat and cough] >> Thank you. >> Any other questions or comments? >> Hearing none. Is there a board member who would like to make a motion for action? >> I'll make the motion to approve the solicitation of members to the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee in accordance with Wisconsin State Statute 118.019 as presented. >> Thank you. We have a motion by Tiffany Stapleton. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Heather Barry. Any further discussion hearing? None. We have a motion and a second to approve the solicitation of members of the
human growth and development advisory committee in accordance with Wisconsin statute 118.019 as presented. All those in favor say I. I. [clears throat] Any oppose say nay. And that has been approved unanimously. Thank you. Next on our agenda, we have some future school board related dates. Our next regular board meeting is Wednesday, May 13th. Um, keep in mind that is also typically the the meeting where we legally have to do the board reorganization and um, proving those other dates and things that we do every year, the organizational meeting. Um, the schoolboard workshop has been scheduled for Thursday, May 28th. Our graduation ceremony, mark this down, Sunday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m. Always favorite time as board members, right? And the regular school board meeting for June is on Wednesday, June 17th. It's not listed here, but
April 27th is also a date to keep in mind as board members. That is a date when the new board member will take their seat. So, between now and then, I am still um in the role working behind the scenes. In fact, I'll be here tomorrow um for a couple meetings. Um so, if if you need to get a hold of of me as a board president, I'm still available in that role until the 27th. Um any comments for possible future agenda items? If you don't have any doubt, please feel free to reach out to district administrator um or board president at any time with those. Um is there a motion to adjurnn? >> Motion to adjurnn. >> A motion to adjourn by Ken Miller. Is there a second? >> Second by Tiffany Stapleton. Before
we adjourn, I just want to give one final thank you. I couldn't name everybody personally because I didn't want to leave anyone out. Um but you guys are amazing. I I mean our our our current district leadership team, our staff, our students, our families, this community is just absolutely amazing. So, it's been a wonderful 16 years and um gosh, we've really made it through some really tough times and we've come out so so far ahead. It's been wonderful. So, thank you to all. I love being on the board. Um with that, all those in favor of adjourning, say I. I. >> I. And
