006the opportunity to improve and share my talents with the assistance of our music directors and especially our lesson teachers the decision made at the last board meeting to cut our instrumental lesson teachers will have an everlasting effect on our music education our lesson teachers are a valuable resource to help us grow as individual musicians they give us personalized lessons to help us learn our music perform memorization checks prepare solos answer our questions and assist our band director over 90% of our instrumental students say that personalized lessons are valuable to their music Journey and would like our lesson teachers to stay personally having lessons has been the main reason I've improved as a musician and has inspired me to continue my passion After High School other students have said that with the help of lesson teachers

007it's easier to learn the music rather than learning it by themselves students also benefit from learning techniques tips and tricks and how they can individually improve to benefit the whole ensemble losing our lesson teachers will not only decrease the level of skill we play at but also decrease the number of events our instrumental groups can perform at performing the field show during homecoming homecoming performing our solos at solo and Ensemble and at various events around our community will likely not occur due to the loss of lesson teachers as drum major of this year I worked alongside the lesson teachers to teach the students their field position sparking marching techniques and music for field shows which would be almost impossible without them it is disappointing to know my peers won't have the opportunity to partake in

008a field show or so long soble next year as it was such a memorable part of my high school experience I understand that budget cuts must be made however cutting the lesson teachers will fill only 3% of the deficit and will have a detrimental effect on our whole music program and our community thank you thank you very much for your comment there is no one else signed up to address the board so we are going to go forward with the next section of the meeting um next is our recognition starting with our rotary students of the month great thank you um again we have two outstanding seniors to be recognized this evening first is Lizzie Lin Lizzie is ranked 14th out of 322 students in the senior class putting her in top five 5% she's

010take your studies seriously and get ahead don't let yourself fall behind so that's all thank you thank you congratulations thank you our next student of the month is Sarah Langan uh she's also in the top five perc a number of honors classes AP courses uh FFA National Honor Society environmental Club math club and math team and they have a really uh neat adviser who's also here tonight for math club um I also continue to play Oh not I um Sarah also continues to play volleyball and contribut the community by volunteering with the Druid Lake Association and coaching Hartford volleyball in the club congratulations to Sarah thank you um After High School I plan on attending W Madison and I'm going to pursue a double major in business management along with I'm still deciding but marketing

011or finance and invest investing um my favorite HS me memory is probably homecoming week every year just the energy that comes with it all the activities that occur it's just so much fun the game the football game everything it's just I love that week um advice to give to a freshman I would definitely tell them to get involved with sports and activities in the school because that's really important and as a freshman especially after covid that's how I met so many people that I'm still friends with to this day and I'm so thankful that I joined Sports and activities that I would have never wanted to do what turn out great the end thank you thank you congratulations and then tonight we also have the honor to recognize this year's educator of the year out

012of a group of over 20 employees that were nominated a group of students parents and staff members selected Miss christop niika as the 2024 HS educator of the Year Mr Mika has served our district for more than 22 years and is an outstanding example of a teacher who regularly observed working at events outside the school day is committed to the highest level of student achievement in her classroom and one who cares deeply about students as well as her colleagues again please join me congratulate this year's educator of the Year miss Chris D there are no questions for you Mr thank you for being here and again congratulations those are the recognitions for this evening thank you Mr Walters next on our agenda is the election of officers I did speak with Mr Walters earlier this

013week is there something You' like to kind of start out with yeah a couple of things while we get situated here um I want to sh the district policy regarding such is available in board docs for anyone to review regarding this process I also kindly ask that his new roles are assumed that any current board member serves as a model teammate in support of someone new to the role here this evening as those duties will M immediately following the election of officers and we will be taking nominations for each role School Board president vice president clerk Treasurer and Deputy clerk Deputy Treasurer we will begin with the role of president if there is only one person nominated for any role we will do a Voice vote from the board if there is more than one

014person nominated for any role a secret ballot will occur and our student board reps who are hiding behind the screen will help with that um with each role prior to the vote the individual nominated will need to verbally state they're willing to accept that assignment um thank you for your support I ask said at this time I ask Tracy to take us from the start of the process to elect our new officers again begin with the nominations for president before we jump into the election are there any questions from any of the board members okay he none we're going to go forward is there a nomination for board president I would like to nominate president okay we have a nomination for Craig Westfall for president are there any other nominations for president a nominate Tracy

015Hennis for board president thank you um and before I continue I'm also supposed to verify Craig if you were to get voted to the board president role would you accept it I would I'd also like to say that been on this board the exception of the first three or six months I've served three years as a clerk two years as vice president and most of the time as vice president was involved in plan workshops I'm seen at many events and activities as an active parent in this district and I have been some time just thank you Mr westal I would also clarify that if I were to be voted in president I would accept that role as well are there any other nominations for board president okay we have two nominations Craig westall and Tracy

016Hennis we are going to go to a ballot vote okay votes for president Tracy Hennis Craig westall Tracy henis Tracy Hennis Tracy Hennis thank you I accept the nomination um next is there a nomination for board vice president I nominate noan Jack Vice Nolan if you were to be voted as the board vice president would you accept that role I would accept thank you are there any other nominations for board vice president I'd like nominate myself having served two years theast R thank you Mr westall any other nominations for board vice president okay hearing none we have two nominations one for Nolan jacket and the other for Craig westall we're going to go to a ballent vote okay for vice Pres President we have Nolan jacket Nolan jacket Craig westall and Nolan jacket thank you

017Nolan jacket do you accept the role of board vice president I do thank you next is there a nomination for board clerk I nominate Heather Barry for board clerk Heather Barry if you voted to the role of board clerk would you accept that role I would thank you are there any other nominations for board clerk I'd like to nominate don don if you were voted to the board clerk role would you accept that role you would not accept that role okay so we have a nomination that is valid for Heather Barry are there any other nominations for board Clerk hearing none we have one nomination for Heather Barry for board clerk so we can either go to a c consent Vote or a ballot vote if a board member would prefer that we vote in

018writing hearing no preference for voting by ballot we will do a unanimous consent vot Voice vote a Voice vote we'll start with myself I hi I I no thank you heather Barry do you accept the role for board clerk I do thank you is there a nomination for board Treasurer yeah I'll nominate Don pridemore for board treasur Don Pridmore if you were voted to the role of board board Treasurer would you accept that rule thank you are there any nominations for board Treasurer heing none we will go to a boys vote for Don Pridmore as board Treasurer we'll start with myself again I I I I sure why not thank you Don premore do you accept the role of board treasurer thank you and that leaves us with Craig westall taking the role of board

019Deputy clerk also Deputy Treasurer Craig westall are you willing to accept this appointment do I honestly I'm sorry you do not because we can't put a person in more than one role so is that a guest thank you we will now proceed with the rest of our reorganization which includes the selection of Representatives starting with negotiations annually the board selects a member and a backup to represent the board and negotiations do I have a volunteer to represent the board of negotiations Mr Walters is there anything you'd like to say about this role to help our board members understand what it might entail sure um this is a responsibility uh the district has an obligation to participate in our Herford Education Association otherwise known as a teachers union to participate in negotiations each year it normally

020consists of at least one maybe up to five it's not exceeded that in Prior years Mr westall Mr Gum have both fuled that role ultim we as a district need a board member to that capacity capacity and join myself Mr Nelson Executive Director of Business Services in negotiation our teachers I like to nominate other very others is something you'd be interested in volunteering for you can it's it's a volunteer role so with these is there an option another we have a whole list to go through so yes there there are representatives for other things and you can fill more than one role for negotiations we're looking for a primary board member for negotiations and then someone who's interested in being a backup I I would be interested in being a backup I don't Des necessarily

021feel great about the board president stepping into that role as a primary I would accept the okay so Heather Barry are you saying you you volunteer for the representative for negotiations thank you um I again I would voice that I'd be willing to volunteers a backup unless there's somebody else who would like to fill that role I can do a backup okay I actually prefer it not be the board president negotiation so I appreciate that um any further discussion about that hearing none will'll then designate Nolan jacket as our backup representative for negotiations next is our selection of Representatives namely the WB delegate assembly representative annually the board selects one representative and one alternate to attend and represent Harvard Union High School at the WB Del assembly at the Wisconsin State education Convention held in

022January I looked it up and this next convention is going to be January 22nd through the 25th um typically the delegate assembly I believe is on day two is that correct Don yeah is anyone interested in being this delegate what day of the week would that be Thursday the convention is Wednesday through Friday so it's typically on a Thursday I would be interested okay so Heather's interested in being the delegate um we designate a delegate then also an alternate in case something were to come up that delegate could not attend is there anybody else who'd like to volunteer as delegate Mr primore is volunteering to be the alternate any others okay hearing none we'll designate Heather Barry is our Delegate for the WB delegate assembly and then Don pridemore is our alternate Trac can I

023just jump in I'm getting some communication as a reminder that all the board members should speak closely to their microphone so we can pick it up on our streaming please thank you next is are approval of the selection of fiscal depositories and authorized users is there a motion to approve the selection of fiscal depositories and authorized users yeah I'll motion to approve a selection of fiscal depositories and authorized signers motion by Nolan jacket is there a second I'll second second by Heather Barry any further discussion Mr prore yes but all school board members are officially approved as signers um in multiple aspects so it certainly does include the treasure but it also includes all the other individuals and Ms so be a number of documents and things coming from the bank that we'll need all

024of our board members to sign and that's why we need to approve them some for anwers or signers I should say sorry sorry I'm just rrolling to it on that part of the agenda as well just to check on something if you have any further questions about what those depositories are it is listed on our agenda any f questions or discussion hearing none all those in favor of approving the selection of depositories and authorized user signify by saying I I I any oppos say n motion carries next is approval of the selection of the official newspaper is there a motion to approve the official newspaper we do have two newspapers listed in our agenda there are the Westbend Daily News as the primary Milwaukee Journal set as our alternate I'll make a motion accept the

025west and then as listed also the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as alternate yes I'll second motion by Mr prore second by Nolan jacket any further discussion hearing none all those in favor of approving the official newspaper signify by saying I I any oppos signify by saying nay motion carries next is the approval of the 2024 2025 board meeting dates so this is always an opportunity to take a look at what works best for everyone's individual schedules and hopefully prepare for the meeting in May we're not going to make a decision tonight unless the board certainly is interested in doing so but again the background is I've obviously met with each of the four hardford area other four hardford area superintendents um in the attachment that is shared in the packet regular board meetings on the second

026Monday with possible workshops on the fourth Wednesday I'm again a reminder as we moved towards the workshop model it moved away from committees um we always determine the prior board meeting if those workshops were going to be held and again as you look at the document of possibly um dates that we're considering um a reminder that the annual meeting date is already set based on last year's annual meeting of October 28th and then we also have the fourth Monday set accurately as April 28th which is the Bo Monday when newly elected officers here from now can take office so we're looking for some feedback again I included in the packet that the Aaron School District meets on the fourth Monday the Holy Hill School District meets on the third Monday H&R meets on the third

027Wednesday School District Department joint meets on the fourth Tuesday again so we want to be as good of neighbors with those area districts as possible and again know superintendents get together and try to figure out what works for all five of us this is our first proposal for you to consider I feel that we should leave it at the third Monday as we've been doing that for at least the last seven or eight years our community knows that the third Monday when this board meets pretty much consistently done that few exceptions but I think we're doing disservice and then also workshops would be difficult for me because of my job having them on Wednesdays is not for me Monday Wednesday that's just thank you Mr westall um any other feedback Mr Walters Mr pridemore yes

028I would uh like to have the board meetings onle fourth which is just informational piece the same date asct did any of theer district superintendent experence interest in moving their meeting dayses to accommodate for us no and U Mr Walters correct me if I'm wrong I believe you have been discussing this at superintendent we have at our last monthly meeting which was in March was when we discussed this last it is again coming up for us to discuss further that's why each of us are going back to get feedback on Words regarding which states were best so don if we if we moved into the Monday would you be open to Monday yeah Mr Walter is also correct me if I'm wrong our meeting next month and may is quite early in the month correct

029it is again May is driven by the deadline of May 15th in which you need to act on any notice of non renewal for certified staff that's why districts are always making sure they schedule that board meeting before the 15th in a timely enough way that that process can be executed if it's necessary for any individual teacher contracts thank you so the board Workshop that we have scheduled actually follows after our main meeting this correct correct so it's important we have this discussion now um we we've heard from so basically per Robert's Rules we've heard from several board members with that all so Craig before you say your next statement i' like to see if either either Heather or myself have something they'd like to add Heathers or something you'd like to add I'm digesting

030all this okay thank you this is your first meeting um I would just like to add that I think it's good to try to work with our K8 we have families with children likely not just at Harford high school but also in one of these other K districts so I appreciate the superintend efforts to find a way that we could all have board meetings on on different nights and that put them is in a position where they have to pick and choose which school um district meeting that they could attend Mr westall I was just you can as long as do it within two month sequence you preliminary notice one month and then final notice the next month that work I guess it would work based on what I heard from cig Don I would

031ask why wouldn't and I know Miss trap appreciates all the different scenarios this is like scenario three already so um why wouldn't the board meeting on the second Monday and the workshop on the fourth Monday being that was myed I guess the only um issue with that scenario Mr Walters would be that our Workshop would then fall on the same evening as the a in school district meeting but technically it's not a board meeting we don't usually get people attending our workshops may not be that big of an and they're less frequent that's the only reason why encounter to one of the conversations the board meetings on Fourth Mondays workshops on second Mondays if we flipped them it doesn't keep it on the third Monday but then it puts the workshop in conflict with neighboring

032districts board meeting not board meeting so it's less of an impact not a complete lack of impact with our district being able to record and they post allarm more meetings here it wouldn't be uh they would still be able to go back and watch our meeting while attending another one at the same time correct thank you for that point Nolan jacket any other feedback that you'd like to provide to Mr Walters Mr West so if we move second how many specif constraints like you know this here had we could have last next so so what does that look like next April yeah so it's two or it's two no matter if we don't do it the fourth Monday right so next year's fourth Monday is April 28th if we were to do the board meting

033means that takes away one that you kind of have to slide in a different direction because of the newly elected officers PS the annual meeting is selected for October 28th again those are two the two outliers so unless you didn't intentionally always the Monday you're going to have those no matter if it's a different day of the week or a different week so you're not going to have the consistency so we'd have the same this year where we have that is correct so why does it have to be onch that is any other comments related to the days of the meeting is there any feedback from Mr Walters about the start time of the meeting can I jump in yes Mr Walters um as a reminder for our newly elected uh board members the board

034meeting in June based upon approval previously as late at the start at five we've done that for a couple of years as far as some time that's certainly something we should consider so we can come back with a proposal the board is comfortable with next meeting so probably need a bit more Direction on what scenarios to create as far as which week and where workshops me fall and then also was beginning times each of the meetings the earlier the better it works for me so I should be able work with what anyone else needs to do for and don't you clarify what is the the earliest time you could be here for a meeting uh three okay thank you very much any other feedback Mr westall I would actually and I tell me when it's

035appropriate but I'd like okay I believe that it's probably most appropriate to add that to our May agenda correct okay we'll go ahead and add that to our the agenda thank you Mr West any other feedback on meeting start time so again Mr Walters has just reminded us that sometimes for our summer meetings we did schedule them earlier um I believe we've had a couple that started at 5 o'clock um it doesn't always work out we've had to make adjustments and change start time sometimes as well just like this scenario here and that's that's okay sometimes that happens but any feedback from Mr Walter as he prepares this possible schedule for approval for the May meeting is there a thought that yes let's go ahead and try scheduling the summer month meetings earlier or keep

036them at the same time as all the other meetings I help Craig out I rather have stay at the same time 545 thank you Mr prore Mr westall I was say I I really need to be at okay it's just okay thank you the other thing I should add is the the document that we included in the packet necessarily isn't our preference it is a preference that fits an alignment with the kets um we would prefer that the actual meetings be held later in the month and the workshops earlier because it's going to be difficult to have the financials closer to the start of the month so those are if the meeting actually is towards the end of the month obviously we'll have a better opportunity financials Prov for each month that being said third

037week of the month is that maybe the third week is that better information on the third week versus second week yes we do that's why I mentioned earlier that if I didn't hear any conflicts if we could just flip what was being discussed before and go to the fourth Monday of the month for meetings and the third Monday of month or Wednesdays but we also have to start what day in the week but we'd prefer later in the month for regular board meetings and try not to be in conflict with our 4K districts but cor fourth Monday does put us in conf that is true Might havee Final I think the financials kind of changes our it really should change our perspective that it should probably be either the third or fourth mon to get

038the financials accurate for that kind of puts a different spin feel pretty strongly third thank you Mr West Fourth Wednesday for meetings second Wednesday for uh workshops Mondays Wednesday no no Wednesday now you're really messing it up you're just trying to get out of I guess and and it sounds like will you have an opportunity to discuss this with the other super attendance before we meet we do okay could you clarify what time start their meetings as well that might also play into this decision for us now that we've discussed that it would be helpful if each of the board members sent me any personal obligations whether it is Library board meetings lines club meetings or things like that that are regularly scheduled that would be unfair to ask you or myself to work around

039does we try to schedule these meetings I think those core lers as far as your participation or serving on other boards could certainly help drive this conversation thank you any further discussion hearing none I de see a clarification from Laura or Jeff please now typically we do designate our board meetings for the following year at this meeting correct no we didn't do it in May okay so or we have done it in May because we've actually been working this in may as well okay so technically do we need any kind of a vote okay thank you very much thank you for the discussion we will go forward in our agenda next on our agenda is our donations um let's talk about our day of service and best buddies y actually we are very appreciative of

040the Harford Women's Club who dropped off a check recently for $1,000 with $500 going to our day of of service which as a reminder is May 22nd this year so um all board members are welcome and encouraged to participate in that and then also $500 to our best bus program so thank you to the heart for the Women's Club thank you very much for those donations are greatly appreciated next is our reports and Communications uh let's start with Esports Tulum report from Miss Val hunts student Bo reps oh my goodness skipped that I skipped over our student board reps I'm so sorry one of my favorite parts of the meeting sorry up next is our student board Representatives with their student board rep report welcome to April I would not be talking both calendar for

041the board meetings next year all right so um I'd just like to start off by welcoming our two new board members Miss Barry and Mr Jackie Round of Applause thank you I know that our team is looking forward to working with you too and if there's any questions concerns we do have open emails and our advisors would love to take any questions or concerns you have for us to bring up in the next meetings as the most veteran member of the board reps and student of be alumni it's really important that as I graduate and these people keep getting older I think that it's important that to stay connected with our group and not avoid us I feel like this year has been really good with the communication that we've had I like that to

042keep continuing to do meetings um also as a matter of housekeeping we do need to inform that Ria Kula has stepped down from her position as student board rep and that in order she have time for more time for her classes and clubs in various activities that in and we wish her the very best um hi so just as an introduction I'm Emma I'm a sophomore um and as the returning board members know I focus on Mental Health and Wellness a lot in a lot of with the times y'all meet um so that's what the source of the strength bullet point is up there so I'm just going to be talking about a little bit about that again so uh first off based on student feedback I pitch an idea to Dr gain that we

043are now implementing which is an OT session for mental health and wellness called The orial Zone and its main goal is to provide an additional quiet space that serves a valuable resource for students to manage stress enhance mental well-being and Foster a positive School environment where self-care is prioritized in conjunction with academics um the orial zone is not a sleeping area or a Phone Zone it's a place for students to utilize Mental Health Resources um engage in homework um it's an individual environment where students can really just have a time to themselves and use some of those mental health strategies that can be taught during orial times um so the dates for those for the rest of the year are April 30th May 14th and May 28th we had one on April 16th uh and

044I hope that well I don't I hope Dr gain's here to talk about that um so and then going into sources of strength it's great that we implemented the orial Zone because it's just another thing that encourages um activities and ideas that are student L and valued and that's the goal for sources of strength so sources of strength is a new mental health and wellness program that is being implemented here and it was presented to Junior OT on April 9th and freshman and sophomore OT on April 18th um and it was just a pref presentation um engagement was very good for that just kind of talking about what it is um and explaining how we need peers from all groups and different academic profiles and everything and it's really just to be sort of an

045encouraging and um kind of res Source within the community outside of just like oh come talk to me if you need someone to talk to just kind of like a positive thing that's really like getting below just the oh if you need someone to talk to here it's kind of just like getting at that before that happens um and the peer training date for that is May 15th and we are currently accepting applications for that and we are working to generate increased interest in that program um for the new board members I'm Lily I'm a freshman so after reviewing results from the survey about jumpstart we previously sent out to freshmen and looking at graphs the data we determined a few things that we definitely want to keep from last year's jump start and a

046few things that we might want to rethink for this school Year's jump start so we're thinking two things that we were planning on keeping are the social interaction between the students and the walkthrough witha their classes is they found those to be very fun and very helpful and one thing we're rethinking is long periods of time sitting and listening because that was something that the students thought wasn't very helpful for jumpster hi I'm Maddie I'm a junior um at HS recently uh Lily and I have been working on the agenda possible agenda drafts for jumpstar um we're doing it based off of last year's agenda and what we think would work better based off the survey results as as well the current overall idea is that we'll break them up into multiple sessions based off

047their ot to allow them to bond with their other OT classmates as well because they will be with those children for um children high schoolers for four more years um and that OT teacher as well so then they'll also go to different breakout sessions we'll be keeping many of the same ones like our student panel and the with the counsil and I'm not really sure what it's called and stuff like that we're also looking into different volunteers because we'd love to have more students involved just to help them I guess learn about um what our students do for our community and learn about possible opportunities that they could have when they come to the high school but also just because it'll help I mean it'll give those students volunteer hours and um we need a

048lot of workers So currently we're thinking about how many volunteers we need based off of the agenda and the possible events we're going to have and how many staff members will be have helping out with that um once we figure out like better idea for the agenda and everyone will have then um we'll move on with that but we need more volunteers we're going to contact hclub and possibly NHS student council they're they're talking about making it like a required um event that they go to which would be really nice because student council is one of the big leadership ORS at our school so a few weeks ago in one of our meetings we were talking about how students get more help from like volunteers like where they can ask questions and we came up

049with the idea that it'd be pretty reasonable for us to have match and shirts which would make a stand out so we're or I'm in the process of reaching out to Mr Helms Miss wall and Mr whlo while getting the shirts and we're thinking of getting them bright orange with in big bold letters in the back volunteer which think would be pretty helpful and then also ear in the jump start oh by the way I'm JP Le I'm a senior senior board rep and um I've been in responsible of for the food and snacks so jump start is a big portion and I've been able to reach out to miss Glorioso in the cafeteria to get pricing and to start that partnership regarding snacks and lunch for the students that day I make email communication

050with her and we've been able to sort some things out and very smooth for upcoming jump start season I'm Owen and uh around 10:00 a.m. this morning we had uh the chance to talk to the teachers because of Miss bur hunts about AI um six out of seven of us uh were there and we led the panel about it we talked about how it boosted our education and how it could naturely impact it and how we can go on forward um The Good the Bad the in between um we had our input on our experiences on how we used Ai and how other students that we know use AI uh whether it's searching up an answer or um maybe using it to write an essay or something like that um and it was very crucial

051for the teachers um they all seemed engaged and seemed to enjoy it um nobody slept so that was good so it went well is there any questions at this time U yeah what are some of the things specifically school now that you guys use AI for I graduated pretty much just before AI started getting really po popular in the educational uh area so what do you what do you guys use that for here now so the uh school has a program called mric School Ai and uh some teachers can use it to like get some lesson plans or questions um obviously it's not that advanced yet but um it can be like lesson planning or even just it can be it a YouTube video and generate questions off of that um some education uses that

052I've seen in classes use is in my digital design class we used it to create some artwork um it wasn't the greatest but it was still an interesting tool to see and then some classes might use it as like a writing like to see how AI would write it and then how you would write it and do you the AI question as well we also I mean I know a lot of students who do it out who use it outside the cl to study and stuff like that like I personally do have a few other friends like in a few classes that are struggling and so we'll like AI up AI look up AI um generate questions about it and help us learn there that way as well and are there any ways that you

053see AI by students being used in negative or abusive ways today um there's definitely signs that they could be uh less creative less useful but there's definitely some positives to it where um they can boost their knowledge about it because if they learn at a slower Pace then the AI can learn with their Pace at the same material though so it's can be effective to personalize their learning to that however going along with that obviously a big concern is plagiarism um which goes to teachers um using adaptive questions so that kids can't just type in answers and get an exact answer for that uh a large portion of that is applying different concepts together and AI is it's a little trickier to do that with AI a lot of those question that mat for with

054those things so all right one more I promise that'll be it from me uh I guess for those of you that have been through jump start uh in recent years what are some of the activities that you guys are still doing there today um so I guess that'd be more of an agenda question some of them are just I mean they have an overall meeting with the counselors which is one I mean Mrs lamb introduces herself a lot of those breakout sessions we'll be saving the student panel in particular on the survey we received a lot of positive feedback about the student panel it's basically I mean the students stand up here and then freshman incoming freshman ask questions and so you just kind of answer that one-onone I think they had that my jump

055start I don't know if they had it did they I remember doing that 2007 okay yeah so like this is a this is the more common one that they they have kept over the years um we're still trying to figure out though who would be able to make it and just based off the service we're still dissecting it because we got a lot of written responses we're still dissecting it based off of what they want thank you all very much are there any other questions about AI before we move on to a different topic Don is your question about Ai No Okay so just before we move on I just I just want to just remind everybody this is our first meeting for a couple of us but Roberts rules do say that each board

056member should make one statement or as one question that we kind of give the floor to other board members so I'll do better I just want to give you a little grace too because it's your first meeting but we'll just make sure that everybody gets a chance to talk that thank you for engaging with the students no one it's appreciate it they like to hear questions don't you so so I didn't want to cut him off but we need to be cognizant of our meeting process so please be be aware of that as well Mr pridemore yes I would like to ask Theo leader there waser voice State teacher whether he'd like to comment on his experience there I would love to I was fortunate enough to be nominated uh bad boy State Representative of

057harpan high school my junior summer it was a great experience it allowed me to be in a government simulation with 700 other boys from around the state it was a great experience for me to learn public speaking skills establishing new relationships and although it's the government it felt almost personable to me even though I'm not going into that field I was fortunate enough to be elected mayor of my city county executive of my county and then lieutenant governor of the entire state of badger and I think that's really important for us at least to know that this experience is one of a lifetime and I knew that I didn't have High Hopes going into it but as a result I am much better from it and I still keep in communication from a lot of

058my friends from that experience hopefully we'll be siging another group from this high school but it's coming here June so thank you I really hope so and I'll be attending back at this summer as a counselor so I think it's a great opportunity for everybody thank you JP please share your experiences from the summer too after you have them sounds great uh any other comments or questions others I would just like to say thank you to each and every one of you thank you very much for your reports the thought you put into it the way you gather information um thank you to Ria you understand that you know life gets busy sometimes you can't do it all right but thank you for her service and um just just really appreciate all of you I

059do have a question about the orial Zone if that sounds fantastic is this something that you think that staff members should have something similar as well oh totally I mean I don't know necessarily how Staff Schedule works I'm not an expert on that at all but considering this is something that students need it definitely would make sense that it could be something that staff would need too either on PL days like we had today or in other times after school I don't know how you do that during school time but I don't but yeah it definitely could be seen as useful to teachers as well thank you I hear no other comments thank you very much we appreciate it and up next on our agenda is our reports and Communications now we'll hear about Esports

060curriculum from Miss valber hunts all right I have some people coming down Mr Bob swinsky is a instructor for the Esports class and we have three students that are excited to also share some of their Journey with Esports class we had a lot that wanted to attend and you'll see that in the slideshow it's just that a lot of sports from rescheduling things from our weather this spring is happening right now and some kids put it make tonight so all right all right so first of all my name is Bob slinsky I've been a teacher for 15 years uh six at Harford coach I'm actually supposed to be out there help P ball right now but I appreciate your time um and the one thing I kind of wanted to mention um is number one

061I have a little bit of a lens of just different places I've been and I really want to let you guys know that I appreciate the opportunities you're giving students right we're giving kids a chance to really invest in their passions and connect to things that bring him to school help them Thrive to do better things um and so one thing that is really important to know world's changing 15 years ago if you asked me I'd be up here giving a school bar presentation about orts meeting orts class I would say you're crazy right but what's important to note is that there are 14 year olds in the world who are getting College scholarships who are making millions of dollars at the end of the day we don't know what the tenure of an athlete

062could be for all we know they could go to their 60 70 the time you know has not been stipulated I think the generation is still coming through um what's important to know about the class is that gaming is the hook with these game with these ad these students are gaining through this experience is much more than just a a video game becoming good at that on the field my number one job is to make sure the kids get the best experience they can they can in the game situation and that's what we're doing here maybe not in the game setting but we're trying to do is give them the best experience they can to be life ready to work with others and that's what I want these guys to talk about are these moments

063that they're gaining through the class that are helping them with those interpersonal skills the things they will remember for the rest of their life unfortunate math but not the quadratic form right as much as I would love to see people do that I understand that's something that unfortunately doesn't have so me turn over you guys all right my name is Charles I'm one of the students here at the Esports class and one of the big things that I love about it is how Esports makes an environment where it encourages teamwork and for when starting the class there's about it's like 18 19 of us I don't really know a whole lot of people in there when we first started but once we first got into the games and started playing a lot you know it

064really started to connect with a lot of other people I think it's a really important aspect this class is TP where Esports unlik any other class here at H2S you know we're all working towards one common goal we're all trying to work together to get to the same thing it's not like like an algebra class or geometry where you just split like maybe two or three groups and then you work on it like we're all working for the same thing and it kind of forms a sense of community for everyone in this class because you know we all share the same interest in this class that's why we're taking it and as far as the actual schedule in for the class it would be like half of the classes actually taking the taking the game

065and playing it together using teamwork to work towards the common goal and then the other half would be the noname portion which is usually researching articles looking at the game and all this in-depth analysis of that and I feel like the kind of teamwork aspect that this class is used for this I feel like it's really important to incorporate towards actual real life skills yeah so some of the lessons that we've learned from Esports is again the teamwork kind of aspect you practice with a team bonding with the other people that you're playing with so that it's it's not just feeling like oh these are the people have work it's something you actually enjoy doing another key point of this is Anger Management because usually in these kinds of games that we're playing there's a

066lot of winning and losing kind of having to deal with that kind of stuff so the more exposure that you have to it the more you can easily manage that keep calm under pressure and then also that comes with that just acceptance where you know you may not be good at something as well as everyone else is but then if you keep practicing at it you keep trying to learn you know you can get better over time that's something that you can reply with everything not just orts so yeah hi my name is steuart and I a junior year I also part of the Esports class and I'm going to talk about job skills now I personally work at JS and I love working and one of my biggest things being working there is that

067cooperation and that ability to communicate with people in enough time you have to do things and execute things extremely fast and one of the biggest areas that you see that kind of work done is in the Esports it promotes kindness it like helps a lot with problem solving being able to solve puzzles and not only that but also includes things like strategy communication teamwork all those kind of things very big things which can be extremely helpful in job settings and you are used to those kind of things it can be very stressful and it helps a lot with connection my name is Billy Paul I'm a senior year at Harford and um I have inclusivity in orts so when I first thought of inclusivity I was thinking of how is it seen in professional sports

068so why not look at our professional football team the Packers uh so the Packers have the acronym of tires which stands for teamwork Integrity respect excellence and stewardship so then my next portion of it was how is this scene in our classroom today so on this first photo here we have senior Blake Bell and sophomore Lucas ratzman playing uh a game called Rocket League uh I thought this photo really showed respect because after I took it Blake informed me that Lucas was a sophomore and I had no idea about this because Lucas acts very mature for his age and I just felt like this showed respect because all the the class roles Junior sophomore fresh senior are dropped when you come into the classroom and you're participating as one team not just individuals uh the

069second photo is of Stuart Jace Lucas and David and they are currently playing uh the two of them are playing each other so it's a 2v2 uh this photo really showed me teamwork and excellence and good sportsmanship uh I know it's just a photo but you can imagine some of the conversations like each partner is having and I thought that really showed teamwork and then the last photo here is Braden and David and I thought this showed Integrity uh they did weren't supposed to play this day but they got all their classwork done ahead of time and this showed that they had good integrity and they were allowed to go on the computers once they were done thank you um so unfortunately Blake isn't here to be able to R up so I will be

070Happ instead um one of the biggest things in or well for the biggest points in Esports is mental toughness inclusivity life lessons and the fact that sometimes it's not one of the biggest things for me personally with life lessons is that I struggle with talking to people I struggle with communicating half the way that I feel because I have AG so I just struggle with really communicating my emotions and the way that I think and one of my biggest things is being able to establish a connection with certain people so that they can understand when I thinking a certain way or type of emotions I and with eorts it is so easy to establish that kind of connectivity especially and also it's not about winning recently we had one of our tournaments for one our

071and it was a very close game it was tied four we were in our last match we chose the map it was nine to nine last point and what ended up happening was weed team Unfortunately they had the B we were not to confus time but still even though we lost we still had a fun time we still stream we have the way that we played way we did that because it wasn't just about when we worked our butts off to be able to get to that point in that and we continue to work hard so the thing we like I said we really appreciate your time on this because I feel like our backs have always been against the wall we have a lot of people who it's game it's gaming in a school

072um but what I have seen as a teacher is you know kids are going to play games whether at home or at school that's happen but when they're in my classroom they adhere to very specific standards of how they're going to play that game that's what we do on the field right so I've been able to use that coaching lens to bring it to a whole new group of people um and really what it's about is taking those highs those winning moments right and bringing them down bring them hey let's bring them to a spot where we can coexist and not gloat over people and so forth also taking those lows you had some mentioned about that your management piece and hey let's really work on some mental health component and actually deal with losing

073I don't see that in Al kid gets a problem wrong I don't see many kids get flustered get upset these are the life skills kids needs I'm very proud of these kids I'm very proud of what you guys have done for the school to keep this stuff going and I look forward to seeing what what goes forward every one of these kids has taken two years of computer science or two classes essentially so my whole Motel just like spout St Stout does you have to be able to build the game before you play the one of the best quots I have right is if you learn how to read you can read to learn you learn how to code you can code to learn so every single one of these kids has a different skill

074set that now makes it more valuable and also not knowing just how to play the game but how to adapt the game in the future Miss I have had the joy of just stopping in every week try to get in there at least once a week just to see what's what they're doing and the communication amongst these kids um you saw the picture before with the bench workers um those kids are coaching other kids that are playing and the communication and giving them guidance and directing kids on how to do better is just amazing to see their communication skills and everything else that is happening in the class this is some of the curriculum that I've seen as I've walk in the history of eorts they're talking about the history the role of in the

075gaming industry and what roles and careers can go in there talking about the hardware and the software of computers game design um we've even I've even seen them talk about characters and analyzing different characters of the game just like you would in a book looking at different characters in a book um careers in video game industry a college and career opportunities they're talking about scholarships they're talking about which colleges have these Esports programs which they're more and more coming around every single day digital media leadership and then coaching others so those are just some of the skills that I have seen in the classrooms that we wanted to share with you today but it's really about these kids and you should I mean please stop by no has an open door because what you see

076them doing it's not just about video games it's really about these life skills that they have that they're using each and every day I can't than Bob enough for bringing that into the curriculum Mr pror yes I'm trying to put this in perspective of what a typical game might be on computer versus what you're doing and are you networked with other uh schools per se there contest between schools or anything like that yeah so in in the classroom we're not too much out and about against I think it's a privacy policy think we're so working through but there is something called the WIA Wisconsin High School Esports Association I mean they full Go I mean it's inter Scholastic like you wouldn't believe all across um at least Wisconsin there are places in michig right now

077that you go into you think you're in basketball setting because the lights are off the band is going the national anthem is going and kids are just like you guys are right across from each other they're playing there kids cheering across so it's it's definitely turning into a lot bigger mtin than I think a lot of us realized um by giving kids these opportunities to you know do stuff they enjoy I think we're connecting kids to school isn't that we want we want them to do better in school we want them to do better academically the stories I have I I can't completely share them because obviously we have some s here but attendance has gotten better I know for a fact all these kids are maintaining certain standards to St in class or ab

078and C's and they're doing that because they they're feel connected and so for me personally like I said with the where they're playing they're playing right now against people in the classroom um but there are bigger scenes that do exist that a lot of schools come but can go on that site look at there's plenty places going around one thing I forgot to say is that right now there's 19 kids in the class um the number of students requested for next year is up to 22 and we have seven that are alternates for that class and the biggest thing is going to be keep on it's going to keep on growing because the pre we prits for the class are the game design and programming with um modern languages need to happen before they're in

079this class so we know that as the years go on we were thinking that it's probably going to grow um Mr westall I know you participated in in team sports in your lives how give me a comment of how this is better or worse than traditional team yeah so um currently in track right now and it's kind of funny because when I walk into the classroom it kind of feels like I'm not on the track with my friends running it's very competitive and like people I don't know like to poke at each other sometimes and like they're always pushing each other to be the best they can and that's really one part as I see it's just like track and field or any really sport it's always just a competition and making each other the

080best of um I also do track and Fields and I would personally say that striving to get better I'm a thrower so I can shop discus and I always either in the weight room or outside on the field throwing and I always want to do my best to get better and get stronger you go farther and one of the things for like for example Esports the amount of training that you can put into that is endless you can do it at home you can do it at school you can do it anywhere you can do it anywhere that you are no matter where you are in the world as long as you have some sort of access to electronics you can be practicing and I think that that ability really separates Esports and sports I

081feel like when I'm in this kind of class I feel like a kind of passion that you don't really see in any other classes or mostly most sports do have it but it feels different in this kind of Esports um situation where you have people that you know they genuinely enjoy the things that they're doing in that class and you just connect a lot better than you you would in any other sport like I've done other sports before I've done soccer I've done track and yeah everybody there does like him the sport but I feel like when especially in this class everybody's striving to be the best they can we're all being really competitive with each other we're trying to strive to the best we can and it's just I feel like it's a really

082good way to connect with other people doing something that you love yeah just just a com favorite moviees Gres favorite movie no sorry any other comments or questions other very well I've been doing Junior Achievement for long time 26 years and um when I ask the students what um depends on the classroom subject B go but when I been Elementary School can't tell you how many kids say what do you want to do when you get older they'll have some element of gaming video something like that and of course as a as a mom and watching my own kids um do the gaming um gaming has its own connotation and just to listen to you talk about it sensing your passion is very um inspiring to me um when I look at all the the

083things that I wish i' hadn't list when I hear middle grade students say this is I'm interested I know that there is career path into this um as a person of communications the only thing that tugs at my heartstrings is to make sure you have interaction personally not just over the screens computers but listening to you come up here and talk and present you're very well communicate very well so that's a passion and where am I going with this is um what is what was what can be some sort of my thoughts you know we have a connotation of oh kids playing in the basement and they doing games all day and um I can see this kind of break that hole in a classroom set like to come and visit the classrooms it runs

084um but I um I know so many times I just want to say it again younger kids are saying want we don't have a clear pth for them they're just going to sit in the basement and try and figure out a way to have a good career out the next basement so that's all I have to say thank you any other board members Mr Pride yes I'd like to uh watch you guys in action sometimes so maybe we can set that up sounds like a field trip for this class is in order for noan is there anything you like to add uh yeah tell me about the uh career opportunities on a couple of bullet points in there on the After High School opportunities so one of the biggest things for me especially with Esports

085is the job field for Esports is endless it can go from coding the games making the games coaching the games coaching players even to just playing the games there are streams who make millions and thousands of dollars just by sitting and talking to a community of people while playing the game and explaining their thought process really going into that is something amazing that people will watch and like we were mentioning the community for gaming and watching Esports is unrival I mean it is up there with some of like the biggest Sports I mean even concerts some concerts don't even come close to it and if you think about the attendance thousands of people can attend these Esports events and a lot of them attend it in person can look and there will be stadiums I

086mean one of the they actually rented out that entire basketball stadium just so that they could play the game just so that they could have and I think that the fact that all those seats were full is astonishing thank you and I can attest that I know sorry bil um I can attest that I know at least two of my follow AE children do watch or listen to some of those episodes as well so I've seen it in my home when they come breaks Billy did you have something you wanted to add I was just going to say uh I'm next year I'm going to Madison W Madison for computer science and I've been looking into it more and there's a lot of classes that I could take as a freshman and sophomore that like

087really develop on games and game design and I just think that's super cool like being a big 10 school and how just having the career and opportunities in a big 10 just the in the game industory I just thought thank you um I did want to just Express that I'm happy to hear that there is a prerequisite for this that just like for any sport there's a training period right so our students have been trained with the other two courses before they get into this course um Miss ver hunts did share that there are 19 to 22 students for next they 19 now 22 okay so how many sections of the course that we have now how many do we need next year one next year okay all right and then just because we are

088in a time of budget talks just curious is there any ongoing costes going to be fired next really okay that's that's amazing did you have something you want to add yeah sorry um one of the things I would like to say is that not only that but also like speaking of jobs the amount of money people can make from playing these games is insane um in 2019 there was actually a fortnite World Cup how where the person who won it won a million dollars and fortnite regularly has thousand cashs which is a huge ability for people at the school to be making money even for SCH students to and not only that but I also wanted to add on to the inclusivity part about people with disabilities can play in Esports tournaments and we've seen

089that everywhere including streaming there's somebody who streams that plays off his off of his mouth he plays basically with a breath lier in front of him each different T has a different name and he still plays games he still streams and it's not only that people with different types of disabilities people who are paralyzed all that kind of stuff they can all be a part of this whereas in sports it's harder for them to be possible steart sorry I'm late to the game no pun intended but what's what's fortnite oh boy okay sorry thanks [Laughter] everybody uh anything else from any other board members Mr Pride question you have sponsors for these uh tournaments if you call them that is that where the money rise money comes from yeah I say right we don't do

090it again so get get away from that but um at the end of the day um there are sponsors that they can get ttch all right I got one more uh what are all the games that you guys are currently uh playing in that class um currently the first one that we did with B then after that was rocket league and then after uh after that now the currently and not only that but there are other different types of games there are multiple free games uh one of the possibilities that we've been discussing was League of Legends and I'm sure few by limited mile kind of what the I'm learning a lot about it to these kids I think that's a really awesome opportunity to educate and to humble yourself to step back and actually

091find out what's important but um those four games um valerant rocket League League of Legends and also fortnite really Encompass kind of the Esports scene and the like I said I love free things because you know it empowers us to build so those are Reas I just wanted to add that the games we're playing right now more focused focused on like teamwork and working together and like a specific goal which the the game we're playing right now is more of a competitive scene kind of games so it kind of gives us the idea of like what's being big right now not just like some game you know you just play by yourself you know it's more of like compatible for teamwork and learning so yeah anything else from the board I just want to thank

092you very much for for being here tonight and for kind of shedding some light on this for all of us who didn't necessarily understand or know it and you've really given us a lot of great information thank you next on our board agenda is our citizens advisory committee for facilities update and the community survey so I do know Joe the chairperson of that committee and other members are in the crowd as well as our friends from Performance Services um certainly appreciate the work that they've done here over the course of many months now um they've made a lot of sacrifice as far as time investment to push forward the review of the facil audit and uh hopefully arrive at a survey this evening that the board can move forward with so we can hear feedback

093from our community um I did want to point out that school perceptions because of the business is unable to be here but Joe is super confident in his ability to represent the Journey of the community survey so I'll turn it over to Joe perfect thank you and uh congratulations again to the new board members um bit of an update from our last meeting um you know we work to push forward the the creation of the survey um many of you were in attendant um in formal and informal capacity at the workshop we did but just as a review in case you weren't in attendance we did a a workshop with school perceptions where we reviewed potential survey structure uh I think it was a great discussion had a lot of great participation we actually went

094right up until the end of our allotted time at that session and we deemed that further discussion was necessary so we formed a small committee five of our seatack members myself along with Jeff and representatives from school perceptions uh and we met twice um in ter of the that workshop and our facilities committee meeting which was held on the 8th um so we met twice there and then once again to full group on the 8th um and so this update this is just our facili committee update we'll get to the actual survey slide into here so our next steps would be the April committee meeting so we have an additional meeting um as a CAC next Monday um so we'll work with Performance Services at that point to really plan what the future of the

095committee will look like um the work May pause depending on when we get those survey results back in until we do receive those survey results so the the meeting next week is our last presently scheduled meeting so we'll have some discussions about that at that point we'll then again have a to be determined date on a committee meeting um meet again to review those survey results um work to develop recommendation from the board on how to proceed that point uh and then just update for our newer board members um some action you'll need to consider um you'll need to consider the future and necessity of this current committee uh after we've worked to develop a recommendation we may at that point need to dissolve yeah set for for us um just a Remer we've shared

096this this slide a few times with the board but we are still right on schedule at lero there right between April and May um of planning a survey we've done one to perform a survey um these these dates aren accurate to our current survey timeline this is just a a timeline that Performance Services that helped us uh set in order to stay on track if we wanted felt it necessary to adopt the resolution that date is important to remember as well especially for any questions on this slide at all any questions in General on our committee group work McCoy switch over to the survey McCoy two addition there were two the community survey thank you um Jeff I don't know obviously this timeline was built off of the April 15th meeting so it's fair to

097say that the dates post April 15th to to move back the week yeah actually the only adjustment we made to the survey was push the end date of the survey May 31st okay and school perceptions still confident can make that happen the time perfect okay so get this to the general timeline so here we are at the board meeting uh that the email date was still the same correct fantastic so we' look to email that to staff first it'll dland mailboxes signers up the deadline is now been mve to May 29th is that May 31st or May 31st sorry couple days later said that um and then my assumption will be that in that June board meeting the results will then be presented to the board and the discussion we'll have as a committee will

098be to likely meet after um that board meeting and then to see what work done in terms of recommendation prior to the Ju next it actual survey itself hopefully you all took a moment to review this earlier but we'll go through it together um so this is a survey as presently constructed so at the top we acknowledge how we got where we are currently um see 22 area voters rejected the referendum now formed the CAC made up parent staff community members myself we studied facilities assessment which had DYI more80 projects obviously recognizing completing all these projects going realistic we need feedback gives options how to get feedback um and then options to receive different language to the next page here so we're gonna go this next one is the respondent information so we can uh

099pretty straightforward everything from shared the initial draft I think this is version 16 um we get to capture their age where they live they're currently an employee they have children if they do have children which of the Feer districts or other meeting assuming that they're hoping to out or homeschool um and then also gives us some information for how they'd like to receive information forward Joe can I just ask you are you going to go through each of the pages and then we'll go back you I'm happy to do it you what what do you Page by Page or go through it once and then come back let's go let's go Page by Page okay can you go back to the first page then so we can ask the board if there's any input here

100I I see something but as want see does any other board member have any input or questions on this page this this might be really Petty but the way the board members names are kind of separated out the bottom with lines is just odd to me okay I think it almost needs to be in between every single name or at all sure I agree yeah definitely talk to school perceptions about that any other input on that we like the idea of lime in between each name back any input on this page Mr westall yeah I mean we can we can definitely ask for perceptions if that's something they I'm not the expert on surve Creations I guess Mr Walter okay and ask I have is where we list municipalities could we consider putting it alphabetical

101by the name of the town or Village know starting with Addison and then working the alphabet um instead of alphabetizing by City town or Village I think it'd be easier just to kind of choose I know the first version had Richfield listed twice look like that was was corrected because they had Richfield listed as a village and a town relas just a a village at this point um I just think it just might read easier if it was albitized by the name this is you could also do I've done before you cities right could even just be in par City Town Village whatever just kind of makes it easier to read I mean I think overall we're trying to ask people to look at eight pages so I'm trying to find like small ways that

102look a little bit simar one other question I have is and this is more for the board too to think about does it is a piece of information that we may want not only do they have children attending hohos or if they have grandchildren attending HS or just leave it as children with some of the questions again like Joe said they have 16 drafts committee spent a 11 of Time Performance Services in their room with Darren sers and Bill Foster School perceptions I think we need to be careful kind ofed in regards that they've done this before they've done a large number of districts they know what indicators they're getting from which questions that will give us a predictor which dire and while ask questions of those two individuals I we want be careful not

103adding too much understood um so I'll retract my question unless there's somebody thoughts on that okay I wrote it down just don't worry about it anything else on this page all right let's roll forward Mr PR sorry just wanted to make comties address we'll double check on that we work on elections go with the official advertises for the election process thank you anything else on this page all right Tak Away Joe all right so here we highlight the facility challenges so again past few years we thought this was important to highlight that we're not coming to the public without having already diligent maintenance of expenditure because I think there is some concern there some a little bit of educational piece here showing that the district has used more than 5.5 cash resour on balance to

104pay for as many updates as possible um it's near completed additional speed spending CA short borrow which is not an option um so then it kind of goes through a few bolded challenges you have your infrastructure exterior Ada complies interior finishes updated teed classrooms lloy that are need loc outoor facilities and then explains them so read that and explanations yourselves there um and then just little call to action to the bottom if we want to address these challenges we need to secure V since 24% districts have secured this type of funding we've not secured facility in nearly 25 years and this gives the respondent their first ability to question some feedback here so what advice would you give the school board to purs pursue another referendum do nothing at this time not sure need more

105inform I'm assuming we'll probably get some feedback because our committees given feedback to school perceptions uh in regards to that bottom line you're going to see it quite often they're very adamant again they're they're the subject matter experts here uh that you're you're going to see close time per even with the information given to them still select that and if they don't select it they're they're gonna go to Jeff they're g go to you and they're just not going to be able to make up that so they're Adam that should remain as as an option again this is your survey strongly that should be removed um your survey any any feedback here my question um for Mr Walter is that 83% is that accurate since the April election that that is actually okay thank you

106Mr primore yes I'm wondering are we operating on a spreadsheet that identifies major components of this school district like you know air whatever as to the age it is currently and what the life expectancy is so we can any better plan to going perh problem I don't know that that's a question specifically to this committee uh might be a question building ground separately yep perfect so I do have uh HVAC repair and replacement plan in place but with over 80% of our hbac equipment needing replacement within the next five years that doesn't fit in within our capital budget so which is why um we're asking for this um otherwise I would have to fall back on my Capital Improvements plan and just have a very robust and intense um replacement plan with HVAC equipment and

107I do have all that information if you would want me to send the yes that might be very okay any other input the only thing that I'm just looking um we we're offering that I'm not sure any just have OPP I don't know there's point where you might cont more inform so Heather are you asking for a possibly question at the end of the survey saying would you like us to contact you with further information if they check that inform we can't clarify we don't yeah part of the conversation we had is that survey is identifiable only by a code and so are people interested in being identifiable or just KN the survey based on that code that none of become with as far as respondent is so it kind of works to what you're

108talking about but certainly has not a question po the on this journey could you put that's a great idea something to give them a place to go instead of just one more inform there also is part of the survey I don't think we've gotten into it yet is there's a website page is designated to this uh so as we scroll through the remaining five pages There's an opportunity to reach J in that regard we'll see if that maybe addresses the question or if there should be something more specific my thought was it's actually it's what I'm talking about is right at the top of the page the link to the hardford Horizon planning web page is it the next page is providing next p next page good to proceed to the next page so here

109we start to identify and inform regarding the potential projects so again be bucketed into building grounds class next page um so we need feedback to determine which projects should be addressed in first phase and longterm facility so again it's also this is study the work for the community understand this is a longterm plan this isn't the first this isn't the last time that we're going to have this conversation it will likely not be another 25 years before we're back having a conversation so we go to building the grounds um How likely would you be to support funding the following projects and we list out good group of projects here um these are all um high priority um projects as identified by Performance Services Capital Improvement plan as well as the work that our committee has

110done projects so we talk about TR system LED lighting upda restrooms to requirements onsite drainage building security and then replacing roof sections as needed an estimated cost up to 20 million we then move to classrooms labs and support areas we there then talk about the tech Edge shop areas greenhouse and labs to support egg science modeling EXP classrooms and then building dedicated Art Space and estimated cost here of up million again gives them four different options here so we can get good feedback on each individual project I'll stop here fored yes I'm wondering if we do go to referendum you break down results vers ipity they came from as a reminder I am the chairperson for the facilities committee not a represent School presp listen company so I I can't answer the answer to that

111Don is yes that's why they ask those questions so we could desegregate in regards to what support was because obviously we know that the result survey in April of 2022 outside the city of parkford refer fail and that's one of the reasons why using School perception because they manipulate that data through a survey such to get a pulse in regards to what is the support or lack their reaching the municipali okay good I like to say that like the way this is divided up it's also educational provides a little this could cause all two piece at the bottom so thank you for for that yeah was it was a big Focus um for the committee we wanted to see the itemized as we'll get to again not try to jump to far ahead we also

112test tax talk so feedback from that Workshop I think we the school perceptions did a great job of creating the survey addresses a lot of the the questions that we as a committee and you as board have uh so here we continue uh with with potential projects who go into outdoor facilities a little bit of background on the outdoor facilities U listing out which sports are played at gimar um we also missed out baseballs off campus track and most Junior Varsity Sports are held on campus uh all areas need updated concessions leaches Etc um obviously District cannot afford to maintain duplicate areas therefore needs Community input on where to make investments so again an option for the respondent to give us some advice here uh should we make investment at the campus at gar make

113no investment or get down we then move to the swimming pool which I know is a big topic gives a little bit of background on the swimming pool uh use as well as fact that it's exceeded it's expected life service um due to the size it's limited what a vents can host cost approximately two million to repair um or n million to build an8 million with a so again it's important there it's two million to repair what's what presently exists or 9 million to build 8 million di well then we ask again for advice uh should we close remove the pool repair the pool replace the pool will again not sure need more information and then we move down to the itemized projects themselves um installing artificial turf fields for physical education football soccer as

114well as other outdoor activities um such as marching and practice updating lighting and sound systems update expand bleachers build concessions restant team rooms resurface or build track uh repair and estim cost stop forut questions or comments board numbers question I have is that First Choice box with the four points make investments on the high school campus does that include gbar and then second choice is gbar only no so it's U so in regards to the concession rest te we really only wanted to focus on one location so school or Performance Services has outlined multiple Improvement U projects uh some at gimar some at the the high school campus so we want to hear from the community basically where should we make those Investments there's obviously a deep tie for some folks to give Mark s

115um where as we also know the track is is failing some updates like we needed there so it just helps us kind of guide so when they have box then the person choose to do they have to choose one or the other campus or give because this is also available electronically correct correct most of it will be done electronically except for just some extra cies available to those who might have families support so was the intention that that's an either or is it the intention of the committee is that either or or you could choose both any of so just just so I'm clear when I need to to state what I'm looking for as a taxpayer the Investments on the high school campus does not correct I I made a note okay I would

116right we now has uh your committee got input on players and Co coaches that use Garfield on their thoughts on this matter uh we have some coaches members of our committee as thank you any other questions Mr westall I was under the impression Peterson you are correct they're going to have to redo the base of the track and then resur it it's all one big project so wording should be different right there because I think two different the track needs to be redone completely right that's that's why I'm asking for I think I think that should be a different word because when I think resurfacing I think cover It Up's there you're right yep and I believe one of the vendors said they would be able to reuse the materials underneath do it but they

117still have to so Mr weler sounds like know we work done on that one thank you any additional input on this p uh correct do we ask so we're asking them in that question um because it's it's its own item so we want to know it's giving folks the the option to also select to close the pool um and then from there we're the bottom section is How likely would they be to support because I may for example want to I I may prefer to replace the pool but I may not support I may be not likely to support so we can then both understand what direction to take with the pool but then also what level of support there is for that direction okay so can I ask why we it's kind of the

118same it is at a smaller price thing there there's there's more options to be done the track is essentially yes we have to rebuild I think there's some discussion as to where to rebuild again depending on location the pool there's multiple options we could close it could repair we could based off the feedback folks say that they're not likely to support it yeah we have to if it's if it's being unus I guess what bother actually I think more than when you have 16 students they for gym class the track for gy class when I compare the two I I think we missing and acceptable to the general student and I've voed this been in most of the committee conversations there's other committee members in the crowd that are welome to recall the conversation but

119I think the driver is the pool got people's attention with the last field referendum and if the the pool fails you're going to have a large part of our building sitting over there with no ability to finance fixing it replacing it filling it in or repairing it and people are going to question the leadership of the district in regards to what are we doing about that space attached to this build if the track is not a surface that is safe that's similar to what the tennis courts were and that took years and years and years and years us to find a solution to the tennis we were okay with filling crackers we were okay with yeah we'll plan these cards maybe we'll plan these cards we have to the track to me is similar to

120that TP conversation versus the pool which to me is a huge driver similar to a biged item that might need to be treated separately I think the conversation that you might be leading into is the board's conversation once the results come back right I think that's probably the more important opportunity to discuss the track the pool what other drivers do there's probably people in the room who agree with you there's probably people feel like TR can't that it's not fully turfed or if it's worn out in the middle of the field or it's not level or whatever it might be our football team practices sideways off the sideline to try to preserve the midle of fi like I think we're getting the weeds of who priority is what rather than keep the focus surve priorities

121the board might support and I think to at the price poti million bucket right that's half the cost of our attention project so it allows the board and allows our our committee to understand what level of support there is because we've heard a lot as well about the pool not being included in the last this gives the community the ability to give their not only on what to do but on how much or how little they support doing anything with it also gives them the ability to show how much they support work on the track right that's that's the whole point breaking down did allows folks to give us okay yeah I appreciate that too um my other question this is you have the artificial is that behind the school or is that anywhere so

122install artifici AC street that based on the other questions yeah there's Improvement projects for both so there there's Improvement projects for for making those Investments uh at the high school camp or making it at G but to to the first paragraph again what we don't want to do what we can't do is make invest don't want to do make investments at both sides because there's there's so much that needs to be addressed we like to focus on one area making improvements one area the majority of so to side fig dra right we've talked about's no point fixing behind the if we're not fixing so drainage is addressed building so if everybody says no we should fix draining yes we should fix this that might drive kind yeah so I a question regarding this this point

123that kind of got me thinking were this this question about install artificial chirp for fire football soccer as well as such as marching practice if the preference seems to be let's renovate gar does this question then apply to putting Turk a gibbar for all of these reasons so it it could we could also as a committee and a board deem it unnecessary to pursue that improve the project in in entire so if the U feedback comes back to make investments solely a gar then the next step again would be to funnel down through these Improvement projects similar to what we did in the exercise before we essentially added some of these projects back just so we can get the Community feedback on them but yes there's there's the potential to make improvements at either or

124or both sides so this question is either or both could that in your opinion should we clarify that or just see it as I guess what my head goes to I know most of these take place behind the high school right now correct on this list like what marching B practices do I guess I don't know typ sometimes the parking lot but I think I think Joe full circle person this answers that question the question above where okay the support of the drainage Drive I think there's no support for the drainage that drives it to be across the street because last in the last two years there have been said I will not vote people have said I not we need to isolate them and figure out the exact feedback to well they supp true

125I believe track be were there when I went to high school uh don't don't ask about [Laughter] ears anything else on this page for Joe all right keep going Jo so here we go to uh tax tolerance so understanding support so again we look to establish a plan is important for us to put that in there some f understand no plan is obviously we brought forth scenarios we've done some exercises to dwindle down that million something that's more manageable and so again want to highlight that so ke understands why we're we'll look to establish a plan based on the priorities that and their levels so we need to secure approved referendum breaks down again the cost summary and then we go into the referendum amount so you have 15 25 40 70 I understand that

126some folks may ask why do we jump in 15 it's a 10 mil jump 15 million Jump part of that is if you look at the tax increase that $25 keep that number under $50 per year that was intentional and then setting m point around 4 million really allows us to if you recall the the scenarios we set forth most of most of our high priority end of life scenarios came in at or under 40 million Mar so we really want to be able to test and see if that gets support and then we figured we might as well since we we put up to 71 million we might as well see what the support may or may not be all the way at the top of that threshold then the question asked again would

127they support and at what level would they support and then we also give them the ability to say whether they would only support a smaller referendum if they would not support any referendum and again they're not sure or need more information I'll stop there Mr pipore when is this survey going out yep I can go back to the uh the timeline slide believe it was early May week of May through the last week of May was what the timeline showed earlier so they do back well T do back May 31st is the timeline right now which is on the next page any other questions or comments on this page all right keep Joe okay and then we thought it'd be a great opportunity to since we're sending the survey out get a little more information

128um in terms of satisfaction with the district how the district's doing in terms of delivering high quality keeping the public informed managing funds appropriate then building pride and then How likely would they be to recommend the district to a friend or family member opportunity for them to let us know what they believe makes the district unique or special I suppose at this point if we wanted that add information about them contacting as May appropriate spot get it's it's on the next page it is so if they have questions they reach out they can also view the the web page for more information on the work that's been done can go back questions looks like that's end any other comments or questions right just a small comment I think you guys did a really good job

129at formatting the survey I really like how that looks appreciate that anyone else am of survey so the one meeting I got to attend um and Tak everything that you discussed put very viable thank you I'm going to bring up a question that we had talked about at a workshop that led us to this point of coming up with a community survey and I'm G let Mr Walter to take it over but at one point we had talked about this is an opportunity to survey our entire entire 225 square mile area of citizens for our district so we had wrestled with the idea possibly including a question about um possible future consolidation so I know that there are is it 10 10 Union High School Districts that correct um several of which are starting down

130that road of researching that right now so I'm going let Mr just kind of share what his thoughts are on having that question not having that question and why I think first we should have Joe or other committee speak about that conversation that was had the committee level regarding that yeah if I could thank you um so that question was brought up at our committee meeting on the 8th and it is the of the opinion of the committee as well as school perceptions that this survey would not be appropriate time um to ask that question um asking that question may then dissuade folks from wanting even though this is a focus on a capital referendum and not an operational referendum um it may one give folks the the ability to put this on the back

131where wait a second I want to focus on consolidation first I want to see what that looks like and potential cost savings there and then also just made distract it's this is this focus is is focused on the facilities themselves and that's that's a much different operational question so again based off the the information that school perception shared feedback from the committee we strong app add any question related to consolidation to this thank you so just in a little back you know I asked question multiple times probably appoint committee not happy with asking that question but I think it is important for our incentives out from the state level that are incentivized districts to think about that so purs that Trac mention State I ask questions like if we provide this background and explain that

132to the respondent would we be comfortable ask unate questions such as um to build further efficiencies with District Operations and resources should hard un School consider or something of that sort and that was feedback pretty consistently confidently was distraction not the right place guess it's appropriate to let the board know of that conversation anys have any questions or comments Mr Heather I think the question would itself to so get single kind of a topic I think it's just derail what your is any other thoughts from board members or questions Craig let's see how he feels after after this one um any other questions or comments I guess my question for you Mr Walters is say you know down the road whether it's if you want survey year we do want to survey our community regarding

133should we explore what it looks like to to possibly become a K12 District what would that cost be to survey the community so it certainly is less than the eight pages that we have now and that eight pages was less than 0,000 so hope you can see significant cost sa in regarding that postcard that one page or whatever it might be so it's not significant but every doll is significant you're talking about the deficit we do face but if it's important enough to us in the future I think we find a way could it could be there you know I'm in conversations with the superintendent wmart Union High School uh who is after referendum having those conversations now with districts that serve they feed into the wont Union High and so there's a lot to

134learn from some of those other districts are kind of navigating that right now my interest right now is to with shared resources and how do we Mo things better together and I think we're making progress in that area which learn more about an example that thank you Mr Walters anything else from board members all right thank you very much Joe thank you to the committee and everybody who's been involved really appreciate it thank you guys next is our citizens advisory committee for human growth and development update hi Corey hi everybody um I wanted to give an update on the human growth and development committee um we've met a couple of times and and review materials four units were reviewed in March seven units were reviewed um in our meeting on April 10th all the remaining

135materials were approved unanimously by our committee as a side note all of the materials are available for review by anybody on the district website um our committee requested that the health Team of Educators curate materials around contraceptives specifically proper use risks and benefits of various methods the committee also requested that the health educator team curate materials related to pornography addiction and trafficking as it relates to responsible decision making which is one of the standards the health Team um will work over the summer to create the units and provide materials to the team for us to then BR those materials our future meeting dates our next U meeting will be in August after teachers have had an opportunity to make additions or changes M Ley is going to seek feedback from committee members to determine their

136continued participation and will open the application process again she will also send out meeting date potentials once the August HS board meeting date is set that we can wrap up our committee and give our recommendations prior to what questions do you have I one sorry go ahead I don't know who all is on this committee but are there any position doctor yep um that was addressed in a previous session there are medical professionals on this committee how many are there there's one who serves in the official role and then we have an additional labor and delivery nurse okay thank you do either one of you want to share um what your hopes would be for committee participation going forward in terms of um current members or bringing in future members or roles that you to

137see more people in So at the last board meeting it was brought up um in regards to Committee Member participation and that we have a core group of members who do attend frequently but we also have some members who um attend very irregularly um also with Miss Barry's um election and appointment to the board we need to make sure that we are compliant with group representation um and that has led to us sub meeting to one seek input current members with their continued participation um and being more explicit um potentially with what the expectations are for group member participation and then also making sure that we are compliant with the state statute requirements in terms of group representation and um this might be a good time for a little advertising are there are certain roles

138that you would hope to see more people um step forward from to be in the committee I think we have a good cross selection of parents and community members and certainly the parent voice is important um because we want to make sure that we are being respectful of the Traditions that the community um upholds um but really any participants are welcomed because we want to make sure that we are getting a really wide cross-section of representation thank you any questions or comments from other board members Mr westall as you've updated us the last couple of months um how many people were at you last um we had I think it was about 11 our last two meetings were about 11 out of yep okay so is that that seems to be our consistent number okay

139we were run we run between about 11 and 15 so do you you think that's a number 19 you have 11 to 13 dedicated people verus 19 maybe not so much we really want to make sure we're getting the voice of people so it would it would depend on the representation of those groups and what those um numbers would look like any other board members all right thank you very much for the update we appreciate it next on our agenda is our principal's update from Miss Kelly lamb first of all congratulations to our two new board members welcome for your first time and I really like this so for the principal report today we're just going to be talking about scheduling as we are starting to build the master schedule just always a fun time

140so I kind of wanted to go through our process and how we get to the point that we are in finalizing schedules we do our schedule is driven by student choice so students choose what type of classes they' like and then we get the numbers and then myself Stevie M Ley and Jeff Mr Walters we look at them to determine the staff he needs and what person will run and will not run generally speaking we do it by obvious there a constraint and then we look at how many kids would be in that class generally speaking when we have low class sizes or low interest such as like five to six to seven it's not physically responsible to run those courses then before our additions or reductions were communicated out to individual staff members based

141on numbers and then it was shared during believe us last month's board meeting so at this point our numbers are confirmed so we did send out all the numbers to our departments as they choose to see if there's any wiggle room or it could be like you could have an extra section here or an extra section there we do want to have the voice of the teachers to make any final recommendations before it's solidified and then they choose what sections they will be teaching so right now we have all the sections confirmed and what teachers will be teaching those courses so myself the counselors and Taylor are working to build the master schedule so at this point we have put up our singl enss and single enss are one course like our Esports is we

142only have one course that's considered a single T because we do not want to have as many conflicts so kids can't get their choice in and then we do every other day and then we start with APS and so forth so that's currently where we are I know we're a little bit later than last year but we wanted to make sure we're getting all the numbers done any questions from board members anything to add Mr malters no there was a lot more questions for Esports for miss Lamb so except for what it is okay I'll take it thank you for your update miss Lamb we appreciate it thank you everybody next on our agenda is our HS enrollment projections from Mr Rob hello in your packet um enrollment is the biggest driver of our budget

143so based on the number of students we have in the building or not in building that live in our district and attend somewhere again that would include students at open and roll out because we count them as our district residents um that is our biggest driver and the biggest predictor of what our budget uh may look like in future years so we asked the applied laboratory at the University of Wisconsin Madison to to look at our enrollment we gathered information from our Ka districts and put that with ours to share with them and they look at a number of things uh birth rates home builds those enrollments and look at what the trends have been and try to put some prediction for the next five to 10 years of what that may look like um

144what I would just point out is there's a lot of detail in here if you want to dig into the home the home builds it listed out by by uh municipality over the last number of years um the birth rates as well um but what it comes down to is we've been fairly stable for the last 10 years now this year you'll recall we have a big jump in students uh that are in the building um and it looks like the this year's eighth graders comes kind of comes back to a normal number that we would anticipate our enrollment going down but more to that normal level and what the report is telling us is that over the next five years we should anticipate 11 to 14% decrease in student enrollment based on the numbers

145that we're seeing at the younger grades uh and then factoring in all those other pieces that they look at across all municipalities that make up our school district and their their program of how they go through that so that helps us um be able to look at and put a number to our budget projections um and again I've put in about a 30 student decrease that might be a little bit um not enough for next year um but there are safeguards in place for districts that have a large drop in enrollment so there are two different pieces in the revenue limit um declining enrollment exemption and a hold Harless agreement that if we do see that big drop there'll be some dollars that should stay in there that should help us where this year where

146we saw that big jump we lost those two exemptions that we thought we might have um just it's trying to level out the the way the state put it into place is trying to level out and have a not a dramatic jump or decrease in any given year for your Revenue calulation so I know there's a lot of information in there if there are questions I try to answer first just a couple of things um to clarify the enrollment conversation especially board members you look in those 22 Pages you know there's about 1500 people for the last 8 to 10 years that are eligible to attend hard School based on child in12 and we had consistently over 1300 students attend missing time frame if we look at projections and as I talk to the hard

147superintendents the younger grades are starting to be less sections okay and then it leads into a conversation of Housing and so you hear this big conversation about there's no housing available for your families in our district yeah I'm excited that there approval in the city of har for a huge 60 acre development I believe 75 or so single homes 150 Apartments things like that and hopefully we'll start to see but the employers and we're an employee ourselves we're the greatest Employers in the city of arford we also want more hous to continue to curve the tide that you're seeing across the country there are less people being born there's less people attending public school districts okay and we know that our job is to try to attract and attain families to come through and as

148a Union High School District we can create that confidence or lack their up for eight or nine years until they choose to come to us as a freshman or choose not to and many of those decisions are being made in prior to even us being okay based on older siblings based upon geographic location things like that are working against us in regards to of our conversations okay the last thing I'll say is for those people who say that that building house 2800 like hear a lot of that I give tours of people or meet with 50th class reunions like how many kids do get there about 1350 there was 1900 in that building what are you doing with all the space as we heard tonight education is different how we use space to serice special

149ed students students who are at risk different levels of technology that looks different so there is no space that we could say let's go had 500 kids back like it was a long time ago okay that's not the but our goal is at the high school level when you increase 50 kids doesn't impact one space it doesn't impact a third grade classroom those 50 kids are spread out across so many different environments of this campus for the most part doesn't imp a space conversation okay so there's a lot of pieces to that enrollment conversation but it's just important to understand eligible to attend enrollment as far as and Feats okay on the third Friday Jes in September and then what we're trying to do to make sure that we Advocate we also need some help

150in ouri to provide thank you Mr Walters um any questions for Mr Nelson or Mr Walter or comments Mr West that is correct no they wouldn't take that into consideration with that moment yeah I know there should be if I went back and looked at the annual meeting information I think we do list it out both ways I think but it's I think they've both been fairly steady because I know looking at Open Enrollment numbers over the last five or six years they've remained steady of the number that come in and the number that go up you know we we we have about a 200ish that go out and we have 50 or so that come in um so and numbers have stay pretty steady I didn't deduction that would be great I have a

151document that shows the actual students attending number it's not higher than 1399 they were all 13 so kind of the trend is the same it is it any other comments or questions that's the first time just as a headss up that's the first time we've actually landed information regarding this since I've been here so we thought it was really important to make sure study somebody did this study and research for us but again it's not it's not complete accurate science because of these structures that we currently have in place gives us a sense of where the future might be some significant changes thank you very much thank you for your work R it's appreciate uh next on our agenda is our superintendent report great not only do we have a young man in the audience

152who serves as a senior school board and not only do we have a young man who's a senior attend the badger boy State up in oir we also have an individual join B we to go to an Saturday morning at 5 amm or something like that so my first part of the update is JP leatherberry and Mason Leber are off to ICC which is the international event for our de organization which is around marketing obviously performed well enough in state competition along with Mason to earn that opportunity as part of our process here at board you approved it last month it actually happened I bring back to specific those specific in the P microphone what was the competition what you earned the right to participate in that yeah so miss guer is our adviser she's

153a new business teacher this year and along with Mason Weber and a few other dec of members we made the state competition after regionals and we were lucky enough to place fourth out of 36 teams Duos and that qualified US for Internationals and we competed in buying and Merchandising um Team decision making events so we got scenarios presented to us by a judge and we also presented um a project with a business case scenario that we've been working on for months so it's really cool that I'm able to use my degree throughout high school and a club that I think that more people should join so I think that it's GNA be exciting Journey I've never been to California and and I'm just going to be a cool trip I warned J JP met with

154the student board reps over lunch today um of the tram issue at the University stud California so JP prom seem to stay off the tra so congratulations awesome any questions from the board regarding that again just an update it's exciting thank you thank you for sharing awesome next um is Day of Service as I mentioned that earlier Wednesday May 22nd is our annual Day of Service um I wanted to provide just an update regarding that myself Katrina cravy Laura trap Stevie schy um are leading the organization of this day frankly has been much bigger than I uh thought it was when I volunteered myself uh to be part of that leadership um so I appreciate the three individuals for their support help and tolerance um um new this year we are going to kick off

155the day with a full student body assembly I have somebody talk you come and talk to the student body about changing the world why it's important to give back you know how do we impact uh those around us each day um so we're excited about that there's over 80 different sites that have been confirmed to this point from the o oron to Westbend to Richfield right here in Hartford um so we're pretty excited about that if anybody's list in has any last minute requests uh we're open take requests up until the end of this week um will place 1300 students or more at again over 80 spots across these communities um a neat part about it is I don't know when graduates of harre high school attended previously um but radar who the host of

15691 Milwaukee is an Alum Heart Unit School got me stuck in a little bit of a radial appearance with him and he's going to actually come back and do some service work our that he had was and just really stuff going on that he's gonna come back and bring his co-host with um and spend the afternoon with us so we're excited about that um and as always uh board members are welcome to [Music] attend if you'd like me to sign you up for a certain location let me know questions or thoughts don't I'll volunteer first you must email me um our board members invited to the assembly absolutely one big celebration what time does the assembly start 7:45 all right and I do have a a site request I'll put that and then any other

157questions great and then the budget update um for those new and as a reminder um while McCoy pulls up the cost reductions document um our goal was to try to address the $1.6 million deficit again where our expenses significantly exceed our Revenue okay we've done a number of things over the past couple of years including but not limited to reducing bus routs restructuring our school off resource officer contract uh reducing overtime for employees consol our HR and business services leadership um restructuring our high school leadership moving away from associate principles um and then most recently some of the items on the screen and in the packet regarding supplying equipment budgets being reduced lesson instructors campus support teaching staff and coaching positions and then now our update tonight if just scroll down McCoy to the curricular

158right there perfect thank you um so the co-curricular advisor position thank you to Kelly FRS Kelly lamb Scott Helms they similar to the work under the coaches have created a tiered structure um that has categorized the leaders of our student organizations eliminated positions that have not been filled or those organizations haven't run I yet a high school organizations run a lot of times when kids demanded Drive and we tried to do it off tonight and then we also added a couple position back all while saving help the cost that we have and then if you just scroll up a little bit more I just wanted to emphasize this again with some of the Heather joining us so since I've been here we've had 66 agreements which are agreements with District to sharea and this year

159specific situations determination it or it doesn't serve us well so the first one is with an art teacher art joint one last couple of years provided art teacher that they can free up that person's come up here they no longer can do that so while there's no budget impact on that we are teacher okay next one's a bit more complicated we previously shared a Spanish teacher so they' Tau middle school and they've taught Spanish and served our Learners here on campus Because of to Ser those as possible we could no longer Central and then the last one is just toate and individual joint so those are the three pieces so is there any questions on any of that yep so with the tech teacher staff the students got high school credit that is correct and

160Sor they will continue to get high school credit for another year however we need to make sure that our arrangements with all of the kids are foll policy in regards to when they should earn high school credit it doesn't matter who employs the teacher it matters if the course is similar in nature to a course taught on campus and if the person's licensed to teach High School classes so as long as he's their teacher would would they still get the school credit not necessarily covers one of those two boxes which is he's a licensed High School teacher what we need to make sure is that if we're awarding high school credit for Middle School classes whever it may be that those Middle School classes align to a high school class or we should not be

161awarding credit fores that doesn't matter if a kid transfers in from new holin Wisconsin across the street at Central Middle School or somewhere else ultimately those classes should align to a high school um credit and talked to M about this like we're GNA work to make sure assessments and curriculum are similar in nature otherwise we're have to have some conversations about that for the next year that is a continu practice we so that be more District where the student is or would that be the responsibility to make that that is our responsibility to vet the curriculum so again I'll I'll use a personal situation my son took eighth grade health class in ke Middle School the question should be does that eighth grade health class he took a line to the health class talk talk

162at Harford Union High School and if it did that should count as credit and if it didn't it should not cont as long as it was taught by SCH so doesn't matter matters content class that's her team is focus on the next year again figure out that process to bet any Middle School class again it's not easy we again kids from all over right determination of all those middle schooles so it could be guarante correct okay and it helps that he's a LIC teacher at the high school any other questions or comments from Mr Walters McCoy could you pull up the other um document so then on the other document I want to show the progress that we've made okay we started at 1.6 we've identified those reductions in the first half of the document

163which over only one and if you scroll down the to puts us and there's the additional 22,500 for the advisor positions we talked about tonight that puts us over $400,000 still to work towards cling that Gap could reach budget okay there are big decisions a little we regarding employee health insurance and compensation okay those two pieces need to be addressed one of those two p is the health insurance will and needs to be addressed in the next two weeks so I'm giving you motivational let's get ready for our next meeting in two weeks that we're g have bigal insurance okay it's it's not it's not easy there are great challenges regarding that and those decisions are going to impact $426,000 deficit one way or the other and we have to make decision our current so

164effective July one every employee of our district is have health insurance decis any questions or feedback at this point Mr Mark uh is this 100% uh paid by the school district the health insurance or is there employee participation yre good question I talk about that a bit more so there's a number of factors that play into that conversation one we currently contribute HRA dollars so that impacts our insurance or the investment district is making in health insurance two full-time people pay % in part-time people to pay 177% towards their health premium so that certainly is is as an aspect of this and then three it certainly comes down to the approach to health insurance train inv but our last two insurance companies have both left Market okay put the district top spot our insurance Consultants

165to try to figure out a more per solution that other questions and thoughts great that's it for our report tonight thank you Mr Walters um next is our school board report I will try to make this brief um there were a couple of policies um included in the school board report as well as other policies included with this agenda tonight there are some policies that we should take a look at as a board and um work to understand and work with Mr Walters to to clean them up a little bit um an example is our policy 0166 which is our agenda policy um as Mr wels and I have been setting meeting agendas I took look back at this one and it seems that our policy doesn't fit our needs very well at this time

166um if we if we take a look at a couple different pieces for example at the beginning it says the district administrator shall put together the agenda there are two other places in our policies where it talks about the district administrator and the school board president to put together the agenda um it also lists the meeting shall proceed according to the following order that order um is no longer applicable in some ways and it doesn't suit our needs so that is is something that we um ask board members to become familiar with think about uh take a look at other school districts agendas if you like I took some time and personally been researching agendas from other Union High Schools around the state um and this is something that we will see when we come

167together again as a board at Workshop um another policy that we' like to take a look at is yes yes sorry you're you're talking really bad sorry I'm tired of need to use the bathroom well I'm not following what what you're saying so I I understand your your first statement about the it it just as the administrator and I think you and I have talked it about the people making the agenda is that where what's the is there is that a policy that talks about the vice president providing when needed or because that's that's not in this right and so I think that's that's a great Point great example Craig to be really good Workshop conversation if we look at our policies this is just one of them you look in related policies that um

168such as the superintendent or District administrator job description our Bo board roles including board president role and list out the other board member roles as well it may not necessarily reflect what we'd like it to too and so I think that's something that we need to talk about as a board also getting the advisement from our mu rep and our our school our school board attend attorney as well as needed so right now we have kind of um different messages out there in different areas of policy and maybe some things in practice that we have found work well that we might want to consider actually putting a policy so that it continues go for the district and the the participation of the Vice President in those setting that agenda or those updates is something that

169I believe we don't have in documentation it was just something that we decided to pull in as practice at one point just that there was um that vice president was in the know as we were working forward on the agendas in case the president was not going to be able to preside so so that that wasn't a policy that was not a policy that was a practice but that is something that again like I think um our district should benefit from the years that we've been doing this and what we found Works doesn't work what would be good for the district and so just uh just kind of previewing some of these things so we can be thinking about them as board members and be prepared to discuss them the workshop because I would um

170I think it's valuable to get everybody's inut on as well okay so I I understand your point of the same thing different and different places not as there might be some policies as well as administ of guidelines Adry of guidelines so does anybody know this was last revised not that long ago what was added because it said it was revised3 so those the ones that state TC are technical Corrections so those are those are te techical Corrections done by Neola without the that's my understanding is that correct wal corre so basically the last time a board looked at this revised it would have been September of 2020 according to the documentation here there's no content changes there's no content that changes okay so that so for example like and I was just giving an example

171are you asking about the order the order here yeah okay so you were asking about the order so for example in this order it talks about um committee and board member reports we no longer have board committees we see to kind of clean that up a little bit or taking a look at this order has CL session only at the end of a meeting um when you take a look at sometimes Clos session is needed earlier in the meeting to give board members the update and confidential information pertaining some new board business that we'll counter later in agenda the committee knows twoes right those are those are citizens advisory committees so again and and my my point was not to have this discussion here tonight it was just to kind of be aware we're we're

172not going to make any Chang just tonight I'm just asking for board members to be aware and think about it research it and come prepared to have that discussion at a board Workshop I'm just trying to understand okay and I I'm not I'm not prepared to nickp pick this tonight I just want to kind of Bring It Forward so that we could all take a look at it I don't believe I'm basically just stating it might be good to do some clarification or some discussion Mr P I'm understanding what you're saying any policy changes that will be worked out in these workshops rather than having standing policy committee as it is right now we do not have a policy Committee in the we just meet as a committee of the board no I'm well I

173know they if if this board would like to have a discussion about board committees including a potential policy committee that is something that we could consider adding to agenda the new workshop that be correct Mr Walters sure the uh the policy or policies that Trac to imp board M practice information so that's what the upom scheduled it's a focus on board member success and some of those things that she references is tight into some of that conversation we any other questions pertaining to the policy 0166 agenda that I brought um the next policy included here was our our board member Behavior Communications and code of conduct policy that we have I'm asking that board members familiarize themselves with it may your refresher for us all we will have advisement available to us at the next

174Workshop um a number of years [Music] ago um related to this our board did come up with some core commitments that we decided to put on board letterhead and it's it's a number of years uh FR andar that only two board members left I believe the board has changed over now a second time since we first divise those core commitments as a part of our letter head so that would also be appropriate to to review not only this policy but uh what we could commit to the board moving forward and carry over into that that communication outward including our board is this what you want to talk about I I think is it's pertaining I think it's pertinent because we're talking about things that pertain to the board and our meetings okay I guess later

175I'm not so we do not have the agenda for the workshop if there are ideas that you like to see brought forward on that agenda or policies that you think would be pertinent that we should review please let me know and then I can discuss it with Jeff and we can get it get the workshop agenda set so we have another board meeting now okay I guess I mean it sounds like have our attorney so we have a rough we expound I would hope we have that sh sha has a presentation that she with other boards regarding successful board teams and successful board members and she plans to adity to that board presentation any other questions all right so moving on um also just want to remind board members that we do get um legislative

176updates in our email accounts from the WB um there was a a recent last week there was a call to action for school leaders regarding the um school start date um so please take take a look at the WB site and watch your your email for any of those legislative updates Trac I don't remember we hav but the W is I would encourage that person to possibly reach out to Tracy and I regarding legislative updates updates and those should be regular board me agendas if there are things that are coming out in that regard that speak about we haven't done that really through that person in that role but I think it's appropriate that person WP delegate does watch for some of those legislative updates where updates just like when Tracy does President report might

177be appropriat or something the rest of the bo should know that individual responsibility to edate the rest of the MERS um so Sheree RS is she is one of the leaders for the W yes and then since we're a little bit that on tangent um the five Harford area districts rotate um through the the rep is from the from the Harford area uh it is not our turn it is not our turn next year so we're still a couple of years away from that but here of a colleague from most likely the Aaron school district is represent five arford area districts next year as a member of the cisa team that comes together on a regular basis as well when that is our turn we normally had connected that or taken volunteers for that role

178just as we did tonight or something we talk about any other questions okay that is all I have for this evening next on our board agenda is to move to adourn to close session is there a motion to close session yeah motion toj close session motion by no one is there a second second a second by donmore this is contemplated Clos session Wisconsin statutes 19851 considering employment promotion compensation or performance evaluation data of any Public Employee over which the governmental body jurisdiction or exercises responsibility 19.85% e e e it thank you everybody it is 9:27 and we are back Open Session uh we're going to tackle new business up first is there a motion for approval of the student worker wage increase proposal so Move Motion by Nolan jacket is there a second I'll go

179ahead and second so we have a motion and a second to approve the proposed increase of student worker wages in youth apprenticeship program affected July 1st 2024 um any questions or discussion pertaining to this when was the last time ra a long time ago I don't have the specific here but it's been a long time obviously to remain competitive we need to imp them again like Tracy mentioned the added sign up opportunity that are exist as we continue to grow the youth appren we're hoping that some of those students can par through that program which then has some Financial incentives to the as well Trac anything add um I was just going to add that this is a great opportunity for our students um to join our Workforce and um become more of a part

180of HS so thank you for the opportunity any questions you know jobs uh yes I have done studies on area businesses I called around to local companies that hire um student workers and the median wage is $12 an hour so we're still on the lower end of that but um you know more close to the average any further questions uh thank you Tracy thank you um hearing no further questions we have a motion and a second to approve the proposed increas student worker waitress youth apprenticeship program affected July 1st 2024 this is a cost to the district so we'll do a roll call vote starting with myself I I I I I motion carries is there a motion to approve the renewal of the BSN contract so Move Motion by Nolan Jack is there a

181second second by Heather be um any discussion or questions regarding this motion this proposal sorry have Mr Scott Helms ready just in case no further discussion or questions all right we have a motion the second on the floor to approve the renewal of the BSN contract all those in favor signify by saying I I any oppose say n and the motion carries thank you Mr Helms it's not noted on my form to R for some reason let me just take a look at it so sorry there's no cost to the district okay so we handled it appropriately Mr Walters yes no cost of the District Craig does make the point it does money Mone District okay is there a motion to approve the purchase of two new washing machines so Mo by noan jacket is

182there a second seconded by Heather Barry um there's information in the packet is there a discussion or questions regarding this proposal all right this is across the district we have a motion and a second um on the on this proposal to approve the purchase of two new washing machines this is to replace ones that we currently have um we'll do a roll call vote starting with Nolan i i i and that motion carries thank you hang on one second for bear with me bear with me what what I was given um to preside over the meting doesn't quite match the recommended action on our our electronic version of our packet so I'm going to read from our electronic version it just takes me a second to queue it up is there a motion to approve

183the Food Service joint agreement between Harford Union High School and Aaron School District Holy Hill area school district St Gabriel Catholic school and H&R school district for the 2024 2025 school year so motion by Nolan jacket is there a second I'll second seconded by heather bar any discussion or questions regarding this proposal you join we do not have an agreement with Harford joint one we've not had my time I don't know there's no I know that I I won't speak about their food service I do know that they're working on leadership of how to perform Their Food Service program but they've they're not part of the conversation for hard at this time thank you Monica is there anything you want to add okay any other questions from board members I will bring up that I

184um also in the Bal Area School District board now seeing as this is a shared service agreement I will recuse myself of this vote we have a motion in a second to approve the Food Service joint agreements between Harford unit high school and Aon School District Holy Hill area school district St Gabriel Catholic school and H&R school district for the 2024 2025 school year all those in favor say I I any oppos that motion carries is there a motion on the approval of the skills USA national leadership and skills conference field trip in Atlanta Georgia motion by Craig West second second by noan Jeff um discussion or questions regarding this proposal so just as it appears in your Pion and as I explain the process with the board before was Deca this is the first

185time this has appeared in front of you um we do that with out of state and overnight trips this obviously takes five individuals who have earned the right to participate in skills USA Nationals in June along with our advisor Mr M EV in Atlanta Georgia five students one advisor we will bring it back next month or any final information this mon first approv so I guess the question is to Craig's point do we know will there be at least one other parent there in case something were to happen to ensure that there's a second adult I have to have some further conversations about the investment necessary to always have a second adult travel with X number of students we're not aware of parents traveling with this group uh five male students traving with a male

186advisor is something that high school and myself are comforable any further questions or comments all right hearing none we'll put it to the vote we have a motion and a second on the approval of the skills USA national leadership and skills conference field trip in Atlanta Georgia all those in favor signify by saying I I any oppos saying nay motion cares is there a motion on the approval of the 6603 agreement the Holy Hill area school district to share buildings and ground supervisor motion by Mr premore is there a second second second by noan jacket discussion or questions regarding this proposal I'll just comment and say that uh this opportunity to share resources between heart one of our K districts is the exact foundation for future conversations you have a a valuable asset that an

187employee who done a great job for us since she started and you have a need at one of our Ka districts and rather than have them chase an opportunity to find something they on a role we can find an agreement and share that really good employee with the neighborhood district and we both benefit so we appreciate the work that Miss Peterson's done and excited that one of our KS will benefit from her expertise as well thank you Mr Walters any comments or questions from the board Mr West so you know you've done a great job Jeff of these types of things how are we Mak sure the people that keep pushing are a reflective of that I know how are we you know pumping ourselves up we're doing what were being asked by legis so

188why is everybody else join CL yeah that's a great question um I think the positive perspective on that is it's the right thing to do the Twisted perception or the negative uh directions somebody might take um is that that's something you should be doing all along and so even if I were the leader of a K12 district and there was a neighboring K12 District that had a need I would do this it's not because we're a Union High School District I that we're doing it with a K it's because it's the right thing to do it challenges our employ and we share an expertise of individual right and so my conversations as you reference is every month with five to 10 lawmakers in ashkash some aspect of that conversation is R Revenue State funding and

189what can they do to support public education and these are the examples that I share with what we're trying to do at any further questions all right here none we'll put it to a vote we have a motion and a second on the approval of the 6603 agreement with the Holy Hill area school district to share buildings and ground supervisor this is a vote I will recuse myself from we'll do a roll call vote starting with Mr premore hi hi hi hi thank you motion carries next on our agenda do unanimous consent agenda this includes the approval of the March 18th 2024 regular board meeting minute approval of vouchers approval of treasures report and approval of the personel recommendations is there a motion to approve theous consent agenda soov by no second second second by

190Mr any discussion none all those in favor signify by saying I any say a that has been approved uh there is an announcement of meetings and events in our packet including today was a staff professional development day our PE and teacher conferences are coming up on April 24th the next citizens advisory committee for facilities is April 29th all are welcome to attend and Mr wal just please remind us uh the date of our next meeting at our next board Workshop Oh I thought you were going to ask for Day of Service May 22nd is Day of Service that's a great one um remember uh Laura should have messaged all of you looking for confirmation of May 14th as a board workshop and then remember our next board meeting is two tonight which is Monday May

1916 thank you for that recap um our upcoming board voice opportunities uh Katrina and I have been talking about and we'll continue to explore uh beeping up board presence on our website um we looked at some of their districts where they have a little monthly board bulletin we talked about doing something monthly or quarterly in board members have any input or examples please feel free to share those uh we also have the Weekly Newsletter that goes out every week and that is something that board member um board voice is welcomeing as long as we get it to V I Believe by the end of the day on Tuesday each week so if you have anything that you would hope to see um come from the board in our Weekly Newsletter please U let me know

192and I will work with Katrina to to get it included um at this point in the meeting we usually offer a board reflection for our new board members in the past we had a forum where we would write out a board reflection and hand it in um we um also allowed a a vocal board reflection at the end of a meeting um again if there's anything you want to reflect on and share with me Jeff or Laura please do so if there is a verbal board reflection you like to give now your welome to as well it can be about something about the meeting um something about our school district it can be um even something that you would potentially hopefully would consider for a future future meeting agenda does anybody like to offer a

193board reflection Mr West I have a couple things I'd like to say uh first off um Good Luck to all of our musicians that as they will be competing in the state solo Ensemble this weekend Whitewater and then also um congratulations to the boys track team who took first place last Saturday at a track meat at Wisconsin high school that had I heard anywhere between 16 and 20 uh teams in the southeastern Wisconsin so I think that's a big kudos for our boys track team um and the success that they had last Satur and looking forward to multitude of meets in the next few days thank you thank you Mr westall um anything from any other board members I would I know that the crowd has thinned significantly but I would just like to say

194that it was wonderful to see a student come forward and address the board tonight um in in support of a program that she feels um very very deeply about and so it was wonderful to see that and I hope that we get to see more students and community members sharing their their views as well anything else all right we'll go forward in the bo agenda um at this point in the board meeting we have a a motion to adjourn to Clos session this is closed session pursuing to Wisconsin statutes 19851 C considering employment promotion compensation or performance evaluation data of any Public Employee over which a governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility 19851 C specifically staff compensation is there a motion to go to close session so moved motion by no jacket is there
