I Should button correctly that time. Thank you I'll call the meeting of the keeler school district board of education to order meeting has been posted as prescribed by law and media notified and At this time of the pledge of lead of allegiance could we have the new inquirer? Please lead us and the flag is right back there Thank you the new inquirer I knew you would do a great job Announcement of executive session the board will consider convening it to executive session in the Wisconsin statutes one nine point eight five One be Wisconsin statutes one one eight point two two for consideration of issuance of final notices of non-renewal of teachers For the purpose of reducing staff based on anticipated budgetary and fiscal limitations for the twenty twenty six twenty seven school year To discuss
staffing directly related to personnel the board may reconvene at open session to act upon items discussed in closed Like to welcome our visitors and special guests here tonight We have a full house really exciting to see everyone here, especially the parents and the students so great to have you Would someone like to lead us in the board norms this evening? I could do that Begin meetings on time do your homework before meetings be professional discuss the ideas not the person Be clear and concise seek for us to understand support decisions praise the positives Well done, mr. Wenling. Thank you at this time I'd seek approval of the agenda consent agenda with Identifications of items to be taken off the consent agenda for discussion and or separate action so moved by mr. By check is there
second I'll second second by mr. Lee anything to be removed. Go ahead. Mr. Johannes I know it's a non-action item, but I'd like to pull 16 a We are discussing 16 a okay. Is there anything else? So we'll vote on the agenda and we will be pulling that one Consent agenda item Will vote mr. Lee. Yes, mr. Johannes. Yes, miss stall. Yes, mr. Willie. I'm sorry. Mr. Wenling. Yes Miss Willie. Yes combined like four names together in one. I'll say yes, mr. By check. We have We have an agenda gifts is district. Miss Willie. Can you share those, please? Sure, I'd be happy to so we were very fortunate to receive an Additional donations this month as we have been every month great community support out there very much appreciated everyone Our angel fund continues
to receive donations We did receive 25 from an anonymous donor and also $100 from liver and bits So thank you for that and a donation of $2,025 from the keel fish and game ink to our high school trap team to help cover supply cost Which will help us reduce cost for students. So that's awesome. Yeah. Thank you so much everyone Very nice At this time we have state recognition Dr. Ebert and a board member will recognize students who participated in a state level for the following activities I would like to do powerlifting if other board members would like to hop in for the other ones. I'd fully support that I'd like to do robotics People in that I'd love to do forensics Recognize with a plaque that's ordered and then it comes to your school
office Tonight we're lucky enough to have it actually seems like the last three meetings or four we've had multiple state competition Participants, so it is really exciting parents. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to bring yourself in there We really appreciate that And so tonight we have four different groups to honor We're gonna start with a club that was just recently formed this year at the high school and that's a powerlifting club I believe there was six or seven students in the powerlifting club and And so it started this year and we had a student Qualified her first year in the club Maya Roth he qualified for state 132 pound class and finished 23rd So I don't know if my is here. I didn't see her Now let's give Alright, let's
talk about forensics right now forensics Competition and so I just was over here talking to some of the forensic students Would be willing to come up and just talk a bit about Wait, are you doing forensics or And a few of them said they Share a little bit about robotics And how that works how you qualify for state what happens at state? I've been in a few competitions over the years I've got a pretty decent understanding. I'm not sure if all the board members do or the rest of the students of the community. So Robotics team come on up and tell us about Tell us about Here So we essentially are a team made up of this year about eight students where we all work together to Kind of build and design our robot in
about six weeks and compete with it against other teams at Two of our different competitions this year in our normal season And then we were lucky enough to be able to win actually our second one with our robot and move on to the state competition That was held a couple weeks ago so we essentially work together to start the year by designing our robot to meet what we want to do which was essentially score balls and then we were able to Basically design our entire robot and in six weeks get it from just an idea in our heads of what we want to do to A physical working robot that we were able to build completely wire and then programmed by ourselves The different ways that we do that are through A lot of our
mentor support along with the L rec support, which is part of the coalition that we are part of The first step usually is going to be figuring out what you want to do because we get a different game every year You figure out what elements you want what you don't what you're capable of doing from there. You'll usually go to CAD some teams don't After cab you have your fab so that'll be like you do CNC mills or lasers or your routers Then you can put it together mechanically Electrically programming's last and the least amount of time After that, it's just all testing drive practice drive team practice with a good robot Good drive team you can get anywhere So state was essentially there were 72 teams in Wisconsin as a whole competing at the
high school level and the top 36 this year were invited to the second ever state competition and we were lucky enough to be one of the Teams that were able to qualify and we were able to do that by actually being able to be chosen by Two other teams to be a part of their alliance which was three teams that actually won Our second competition this year and that got us to state where we were able to compete with all the other Amazing teams that we had been competing with the best of this season and it was essentially able to Allow us a couple days to just honor the fact that we all were able to design something that worked so well and just Be able to interact with a bunch of other teams and
help them out. Even if we were struggling ourselves Hi Everybody so most of you probably know me from robotics because we start in Kenny garden 4k Which is our Lego League explorers. So 4k through third graders build like murals They learn how the program at that age. We have a cruel Tell what they work on they can build any kind of scene this year. We're actually gonna be doing bio glow So a bio glow is is about the different Thank you interactions in nature So that is the Lego League level the next level up is our challenge, which is a little bit different Those are the 4k through eighth graders or fourth graders through eighth graders They actually can beat against each other on tables, which is really cool because they have to design a
robot To do these and what they do is they work as a team. There's six kids on each team They also do an innovation project, which is just basically Coming up with a solution to that year's theme so this year you'd be looking at like scientists how Using different insects and that could you can fix them make them come to life more or use them for different innovative science innovations Next level then is our FTC team. That is our middle school team. They build a smaller robot than ours, which is about 18 by 18 about 20 pounds so Kind of a smaller robot and then of course our high school team has that big robot So if you want to see all levels, I recommend stopping out at the keel picnic We do have a
booth there which will showcase all of them and we will actually let you shoot the high school team play with their robot because they get to play with a Xbox controller to operate their robots. So We're gonna start with our newest we have Zayden right there we have Dawson We have Austin as well Those are all of our new students as of this year then we have Carson We're able to join a few years ago and this is Erica Two years this will be their second year going on to their third Erica is also our senior this year and graduated Might want to come up and share a little bit about friends it and what it is I don't know if too many of them are able to make it through the other We have
any forensics people here Gracie Colbert Brookford Allison Hanson and Shelby Bonnet took bronze in group interpretive reading Mitchell Vanderpooten and Sophie Strapinski took a silver medal in group interpretively reading Abbey Lish and Arianna Patterson took gold in our group interpretive reading Emma Ebert and Olivia Ebert silver in group interpretive reading Caleb Galasio gold in informative slash demonstration of speech and Michael Coronan and Kai Kord silver in play acting Nagin Hale and Emma Fitzpatrick a silver in play acting Jennifer Pringle and Sophia Knuth a silver in play acting Eleanor Tillman silver in poetry reading Lexi net a silver in poetry reading Ava Schneider a gold in poetry reading Aubrey Loveland a gold in solo acting and Jennifer Pringle a silver in solo acting. Let's give it up for escape Yeah Could you just talk to the
crowd Riley about what is FCCL that So in FCCLA, you can have multiple categories. I did repurpose and redesign and there's cooking there's fashion and all sorts of stuff really anything for your interests So one thing you're gonna want to do especially for if you're competing in state is practice your speech well and then For what I did repurpose and redesign. There's you can you have eight hours and you can put together what you're building We have a number of different students participating at state on April 6th of the 8th at Wisconsin Dells We're just staying All right, so this is Riley Schneider took bronze in what he said to call repurpose and redesign Yep. All right, Braylon Hager took silver and repurpose and redesign and then we also had three middle school students that
participated Ariana Ketter in fashion construction took silver Kennedy Manier also a silver in fashion construction and says usually qualified for nationals Lola Schmidt qualified for nationals And silver in promote and publicizing FCCLA. So thank you for being here to represent. We'll get your picture. Let's give it up for FCCLA so next we have Presentation Solanus noon choir So, let's use a microphone so the people at home can hear you too, if that's okay we appreciate it No problems. All right testing. There we go. Hello. My name is Charles. I'm a man of snow. I am the Excuse me, I am the elementary general music teacher here at Solanus I am here with a bunch of my noon choir students. You'll see they're all over there They're waving at me now. You will see them soon
enough Now what noon choir is they are an optional opt-in fourth grade group and It's start and I started at the very beginning of the year Students get to pick the important thing is this is the most important part of it They have to give up their lunch recess every Wednesday It's a huge sacrifice, but that just shows how that just shows you how dedicated they are We meet every Wednesday up in my music room and they have some perks They get to learn how to become even better singers than they would otherwise because I get them more focused smaller group instruction They get special they get to sing special as you've seen at our concerts this year except for Veterans Day They get to sing their own special song to conclude the concert that
happened at our spring concert this year as well as our winter concert and also our spring concert last year as well, excuse me and This year we actually went Christmas caroling. I got a look at the note on my phone here We went Christmas caroling at field of dreams assisted living this year this December just before our break Kids had a lot of fun with that. We dressed up in Christmas outfits sang a bunch of fun holiday songs It was a really great time and I hope to go back there again next year out of our 60 or 70. I'm sorry. I had to do it too. I'm a person of the people. I'm a man of the people Fourth grade students. I've got that I don't have all of them here tonight due to
other commitments, but I have about 30 of them so over so just about half of all of fourth grade students are a noon choir, which is really awesome and Tonight we're gonna sing the our song pizza love from our spring concert So nice, we got to sing it twice So it'll just be a little bit while I get everybody set up for that and then yeah We hope you enjoy our little performance for you tonight It's not gonna blow anybody's ear drums out that's good Okay Don't get too excited. That was just the sound check. All right Testing testing To fill my heart with pizza love Thank you There we go. Thank you for being such good audience members. We hope you enjoyed our performance clearly. They love this one Clearly they love this one
and clearly I love this one, too I kind of told them to do the stop thing, but they just all went and I couldn't stop them from it. So Yep, that was noon choir. Enjoy. This is their Don't worry new choir has one more performance though because at our fourth grade celebration at the end of the year Fourth graders perform our concert. So you'll get to hear something from noon choir one more time at that performance All right. Thank you very much Those by far the most entertainment we've ever received at a school board. I mean, that was great. I Didn't see any community feedback Mackenzie. Anyone gonna present anything today? No, so next We have what we call tell me something good and dr. Ebert will get into it in a second, but I'm
gonna start it off Can I have everyone here? Who's a volunteer a coach? advisor a parent Or in any other way support students in the district, please raise your hand and wave your arms around Thank you for all those people that support our students in so many different ways. Yes in all these organizations Dr. Ebert, do I lead it off? Yes, definitely I'm glad some students are staying here this segment of our board meeting is called tell me something good And so we open up the floor to anyone that wants to raise their hand or stand up You can come up to the front. You don't have to all we're looking for is and miss Schwartz We'll have a microphone to she'll walk around with it If you would be so kind to share big
or small something good that you witnessed that has happened to you Today yesterday this year anytime Within our schools or around our school district. Tell us something good About our schools or school district or community or anything you'd like to share. It's called. Tell me something good We have a hand up in the back Anyone's able to share more the mayor. Go ahead. Mr. Ram your elementary principal. I wanted to catch mr Lm before he goes we are so lucky to have a Music teacher who loves kids cares about them did a car spring concert If you were there, it was pretty awesome and lots and lots of parents commented on that energy cares about kids Really instills a love of music. So well done. Mr. Lm. Great job All right, I'm up next Alex
Rada middle school principal our band and choir concert So two separate nights were last week last Tuesday and Thursday And just an outstanding performance by both Groups led by mrs. Marcus and mrs. Hogan who did a great job preparing them And students just knocked it out of the park. So huge shout out to our brand and choir members also If you walk around kill middle school, hopefully by the end of the year Our leadership club, which is full of seventh and eighth graders about 15 of them who chose to be in this group that meets every Wednesday with me and mrs. Coulter just to talk about leadership stuff and how we can be better more Impactful in our school with our students and staff They're planning some activities around school and have been doing it
throughout the year But also have been Hoping to get some of our very old Banners that we have around the building that are probably 20 plus years old And would like to give some of our hallway hallways a little bit of a facelift So they're they're actually creating some of the banners and we're in the process of working with a local printing company To to spice up our hallways with some some some fresher ideas and sayings So it's pretty cool to see a really great group of kids and we are actually In the process of welcoming some some new members by getting our sixth graders, which we do every year Because our eighth grader will be leaving us soon and and kind of replenishing our our club a bit so it's good stuff Thank you
Who else has something good to share? Anyone students anything good to share Board members it's staff appreciation week As I think everybody knows so if you're a if you are able to say thank you To a staff member such as a teacher a principal teachers helper or anyone I think that'd be a great idea a lot of People don't see all the work that goes into Preparing lessons grading papers so on so forth so thank a staff member if you can What else was something else to share? Yeah, right there Matt yes, I'd like to say thanks to all the coaches and everything for the sports and the teachers My son is on the middle school track and I heard the track team is quite big this year And I did get to meet go
to one meet and they did pretty well. Yes Quite a showing there, so I like to give a shout out to the coaches Great We have so many opportunities in this district. That's just one example. There's so many things for kids to be involved in Hi, I'm Teresa a mentor on bomb brigade, and I just wanted to thank the school for Highlighting these kids with that send-off that was just awesome like usually you see it just for sports and stuff And I just love that you guys recognize everything at the school district like this. It's so important They all work hard like I tell my boys. This is your sport You know it's a lot of time a lot of effort a lot of hours and a lot of dedication And a lot of learning
and so thank you. That was just awesome to see that Great one, I have a tiny tiny and fast But it involves our first staff appreciation lunch today that we had at the lanus, and I'm telling you was it windy And there we are outside with our boxes of chips and napkins and plates and a whole big giant garbage can that blew away in a wind gust and the chips went flying and the plates were going and Who stepped up immediately? Our kids all these little people without being asked they were running they were gathering chips putting them in the bag Helping to push up the garbage can I mean kindness and action responsibility and action They weren't asked talk about little leaders. We experienced it today in the windstorm and And unfortunately a few
of them thought they might get a free bag of chips, but sorry it was for staff They tried Great one. Thank you Well says something to share Yep, Tony. I don't want to steal the thunder of a future agenda item but I think probably one of the best something goods are on this agenda because tonight we get to I guess approve the graduates and When you talk about a mix of emotions the parents of those students Can't are in shock that this day has arrived the students themselves have probably been counting down the days since the start of the year Which is a little different, but that's okay but it really Kind of that's everything we this is why we do what we do from staff to parents to everything in between There's much to
be proud and that's something very good that we get to do that tonight great one all the teachers and volunteers and all the people that help them get there the lunch ladies the maintenance staff just all the people it takes to Help these students all the way through I was told a story by a middle school parent that There was a negative interaction between a couple of students one student wasn't treating another student very well of course I can't use names or anything like that, but what happened then is a third student overheard it and Stepped in the middle of the two and stood up for the kid that was getting picked on a little bit and What else to say about that other than that's what we expect to happen and So proud of
that that student I was able to talk to that student and their parents as well So if anybody out there's listening to this that's what we hope and expect for our students to do Including staff members and really anybody in the community if you see any of that so great work to that student And I hope every student is brave enough to do that What else anything else? Okay Thanks, Dan. Thanks everyone. Sorry awesome I just expected I'm sorry I didn't want to steal your thunder But I do think it's worth mentioning the email that you sent around about our winner For do you want me to talk about that or we do you want to talk about that? Is it too soon? next meeting Are we allowed? Yes, I was going to send it
out in a different way, but okay If you want to send it out that way, I didn't know because you said it was notified that they were notified Yes, it's fine. I think I think we could do it. It's not it's not it's not a an issue at all I think it's pretty exciting and it is I can announce it here sure so Some of you may or may not remember but there there is something out there a program Where 24 school districts are? Participating in Eastern Wisconsin called the Eastern Wisconsin Excellence in education awards, and it's meant to highlight staff members Based on a set of criteria Criteria any staff members in all of those districts we had I don't I don't know the exact number and anyone could nominate People for above and
beyond Work in different categories similar to like the golden apples in the Green Bay area This is our version of that and we had a huge amount of nominations in our school district, and we had 14 finalists actually and these finalists were judged by a huge group of superintendents on Rubrics and criteria and all these things and then those finalists needed to write essays and provide all kinds of information about themselves, and why they do what they do and And Only about I think it's 40 40 staff members from 24 school districts You're talking about thousands and thousands of staff members and there's about 40 winners. We had a winner We had one winner and that winner is Becky Marcus band teacher at Keele Middle School, so I did inform her I haven't sent that
out to anyone yet other than Her but she'll be on May 16th. She'll be honored at the Kohler Performing Arts Center along with 40 others So it's a pretty big deal. That's what I'll say. Thanks Karen Anything further? Okay, we have two options we can hop in the academic update or we could take a brief recess here if there's some people that might want to Walk out of here. You can stick around for the academic update if you'd like So we'll take about a five-minute recess. Thank you for coming everyone Next we we are back and in session We have an academic update ACD ACT discussion I will go ahead and give just a brief update I will also remind you that some of the numbers that I am sharing with you are preliminary as
they are in our Private portal and are not publicly shared yet into What would be the wise- public portal? Just throwing that out there. Okay, so just as a quick reminder There were some major changes to the ACT test this year The new test is called the enhanced ACT. It had shorter sections for English and math It also reduced the math questions from five option answer to four option answers instead of having ABCDE was ABCD It also Had some section changes for the science test and The composite score now for the enhanced ACT only includes the English score and the math score So the composite used to include English science and math all three test scores than average to create your composite And now it's the English and the math only the state of Wisconsin
though does still require that students take all sections of the test including the science test and the writing portion So just as a little bit of a piece there as well There were other schools across the country and in other states that took the enhanced ACT Prior to Wisconsin taking it this year, and they did share some statistics with us regarding student composite scores related to the enhanced ACT So according to stats from others who took the test the enhanced ACT About 32 to 34 percent of students saw it at least a one-point drop score With the removal of the science test from the composite score and about five to seven percent of students saw a two or more Lower score. This is again important information for us to consider when looking at our composite
score. There was also about Like I think it was like 40 percent of students saw no change to the composite. So stayed kind of flat at that zero So with that being said our high school composite score is at Currently being reported at a nineteen point three this year We did see how some substantial growth from the class of 2026 Their pre-act score in 2024 was a sixteen point eight their pre-act score in 2025 was an eighteen point one And their ACT composite then is being reported right now as a nineteen point three. So we did see a one point three One point three point growth from their freshman year to their sophomore year And then another one point two point growth from their sophomore year to their junior year Which is pretty substantial, especially
given some of the changes with the test I will also say for this class that this is one of the first classes that we've seen that actually saw more growth from the target group. So where I said before that like the overall score went from an Eighteen point one to a nineteen point three, which was a one point three the I'm sorry one point two the Target group for the class of 2026 was a one point six two meaning that it went up plus zero point four from the non-target group Remember when it comes to our report card, we get a score for achievement a score for growth and an additional score for the target group So if we're seeing that the target group is starting to kind of close that gap a little bit
That's something else for us to kind of be cognizant of as we're starting to dig through all that data before report cards come out in November I will also say Not only just with the scores but just overall in general Dr. Ebert and I have been making the rounds and we've spoken to about eight or nine different Student groups across the district regarding what is going well in the district and other areas where they'd like to see enhanced or improved it was Basically unanimous from our student groups that Although they like the the way that rater time is split now on Wednesdays And they like the ACT prep being built into their classes. They still want more of it So a change that we're making at the high school next year is we will be
bringing back rater time to five days a week So they still do have their time for clubs But then two days of that will kind of go back to ACT prep similar to what we have done in the past Only this time we'll be using a little bit more robust of a program Called mastery test prep. They partnered with ACT this past year to create a Program that's I don't want to say it's I ready base but a program where students kind of get more on a path of like the specific things that they need to help prepare for the The test and it's also updated to reflect the enhanced ACT Which is something we weren't getting out of our other program because not all programs have updated to reflect those changes so That's something
kind of new that we're going back over and implementing But we're excited to see then what that looks like and to make that change on behalf of student voice I don't know if there's any questions, but that is some of what I'm able to share with you right now Oh, I can share one other thing We did the ACT incentive this year as well which again was based on growth and 47% of students qualified for the incentive meaning that they met their growth ranges based on their previous test score So for example like if a student scored between a 1 and a 12 on the pre-act They needed a growth rate of 4 in order to be able to qualify to go on the the ACT incentive trip And we saw a lot of students
Have really positive growth rates with the test this year So that's the ACT update that I have for you right now any questions clarifications I need to add I just had one question did the ACT provide any rationale like why they would drop science like one of the core subjects from their composite So we received a lot of information from ACT even this last summer Brad Hurth, and I went to Like a full-day workshop at CESA 7 to talk about some of the changes to the test and go over some of our data We were given rationale for like why some of the question sections changed, but not so much as to why science was removed from the composite score Historically speaking science has really always been our highest Subsection area, so it's definitely something
that was disappointing for us to see this year One historically it seems like changes The only thing that's constant with ACTs and testing and things like that state report cards kind of data that gets compiled Jim You'd say seven out of last nine years since you and I have been on the board Yeah, it's so it's hard to compare year to year because the criteria keeps changing and so They keep changing things that they're gonna be useless information pretty soon My opinion well, and I will say to to echo what you're saying I think the last three years that I presented the report card to you We've talked about how the cut scores have changed how they renormed the the report card to growth instead of achievement The forward exam test had changed and now
the enhanced ACT So it's just something for all of us to be cognizant of again in November when I present the new report card And I'll make sure that we go back over then some of those major changes that we'll see with those calculations Is there a way to for us to calculate the score as if it was the same as last year? If the science was in there, or do you think that's there's too much that's changed to Yes, I did calculate what the score would be if science had been put back in and it was right around 19.6 I have a question When this comes out on the public dashboard does the state and I don't recall them doing this in the past I recall you doing it for us, but not at
the state level Is there any feedback that's provided by districts ours or any others? to the state to help explain some of these changes because I kind of agree with Jim when you Change the test you can't say last year. It was this this year But it's a totally different You know thing how we're measuring it which does seem to be how they've been doing it the last few years And that's not really fair to try to hold that up as a comparison Yep, so what I will say is they usually Before the new report card comes up They do update all of their documents on the DPI website related to the report card and let us know if there's any sort of Changes renaming different ways that they're calculating things and then from there.
We usually get some like updated Presentations or kind of video things sent to us, so we know how to Explain that data or that information a little bit better Moving forward I again. I have not gotten any information about that as of right now But we'll see what that looks like as as we get a little bit closer to usually like August September They start giving some more materials out regarding the report card I'm kind of thinking even like a pop-up box when public goes out to look at this where the public can be made aware that There have been changes, so we're not really exactly comparing apples to apples anymore sure I would also keep in mind especially when we're looking at we're kind of transitioning a little bit away from a CT, but
to the to the report card right is that our Achievement score is also based on where the state achievement score lies and same thing with growth right so Did our group our students grow at the same rate as other students across the state so the reason you know why I also Shared that statistic at the beginning is that if we're seeing other high schools across the state that saw some changes in their composite Scores as well that will also potentially have an impact on what we see for the achievement on the growth score, too So remember it's a it's a lot of different Calculations and a lot of different things that are included in there As to you know what that looks like for all of the high schools across the state of Wisconsin And
no matter what we won't be able to compare apples to apples because they actually change the test as well not just Which which ones right so like with forward exam that year they they kept achievement the same for one year and then Redid the achievement the following year. I don't know if they're going to be doing that for a CT or or not So the a CT test are they done once a year then or place here or how do they do that already do that? Yeah, so the window for a CT testing has closed there's three windows that in which you can take the test Throughout the year in spring usually with between March and April April is usually the last window that you can take it in and then Those windows close and
then you get your test results sent back to you Any further? next under academic success We have first reading of policy attached our policies that were reviewed by the curriculum committee and being presented for first reading Reminder to board members if we have any changes that are suggested reach out to miss Giebel and the district office No action is required at this time Kill Education Association letters of intent attaches a listing of full and part-time staff that will be issued letters of intent for the 2026 27 school year I take a motion I'll move to approve sending of the letters of intent to the listed staff for the 26 27 school year move by mr. Johannes I will second that discussion Vote miss doll. Yes, mr. Wenling. Yes. I'll say yes. Miss Willie. Yes, mr.
By check. Yes, mr. Lee. Yes Yes motion passes Next we have graduates attached as a list of graduates for 20 25 26 school year I'll move to approve the list of 20 25 26 graduates pending. They meet all the requirements for graduation Move by mr. Lee second second second by mr. Wenling Discussion, I think Tony said it well earlier one of the neater things we get to see the culmination of a student's career at the school Successful completion of the career at school. We'll vote miss Willie. Yes, mr. Johannes. Yes, mr. Lee. Yes, mr. By check Yes, I'll say yes, mr. Wenling. Yes, miss doll. Yes Next consent agenda non-action item was removed. Go ahead Tony. Where were you going with this one? Yeah, I think with some of the information provided about one of
the resignations I had some concerns that I guess they wanted to share I think our district and community have made attracting and retaining quality staff a top priority There was a time not too long ago when our staff turnover felt like a revolving door However, now if you look at our staffing plan, you see the number one reason staff leave is retirement Number two is people returning to their hometowns and there really is no number three Our efforts have been extremely successful and have benefited the children of keel Tonight we are being asked to accept the resignation of one of our high school teachers He is not leaving because he's upset about his compensation or feels a lack of support from the district He is leaving because a group of internet trolls have harassed him
relentlessly since the day he started Some of the harassment includes falsely accusing him of some of the most heinous crimes imaginable This group is not attacking him because he's a bad teacher is somehow unqualified or has committed some kind of crime They are attacking him because of who he is. I Believe this type of harassment should be a topic of concern for everyone in our community It's already cost us one teacher and this group is actively attacking attacking others for various reasons Who's going to be next? Within our bylaws we as a board are entrusted with protecting all of our employees So I believe it is our responsibility to discuss options to protect our staff from this kind of hate Well said mr. Johannes I had thoughts on this as well A lot of time
to think yesterday. I was doing a pretty monotonous task and my brain started moving and We have an organized group of people in this community that want to do everything possible To disparage a school district. I was going to talk about that but the positive is We've gotten to the point where? Most of the stuff is anonymous because the community is outraged by their behavior cowards behind a computer Are doing this because the vast majority of this community supports all Students supports all teachers. It is truly remarkable the support we have in this community a couple bad actors Yes, we have those in this community But a vast majority of this community is very supportive to in so many ways to the school district and our staff so we truly need those people to step
up and Continue to go forward because some people will always have hate that has been part of this world since You know biblical times We need the people with to be the light and have the courage to step forward and lead the way Can I add to that a little bit? I think our schools are The greatest thing around here our kids are just phenomenal. I think they're wonderful. I mean I Had a couple of conversations with parents and these they came up to me and said, you know, Todd We have a great bunch of kids out in our school and we do Look what they're all doing Then nobody recognizes that I think it's not right for them to sit behind a computer either I think we got to do something to protect everybody.
I agree. I think that I Agree with some of what mr. Meyer said I do think that some of what we see out there on the internet Frankly for anyone who pays attention to it It's very easy to not give voices to people if we don't pay attention to nonsense that's out there However, I think a lot of what is in existence is frankly folks that do not believe in public education and That That's something that people are entitled to that opinion They have other options that they have children and some of them use those options I think the instance that we're talking about here is a little bit different. We're talking about a person This was not an attack on administration as we've seen before. This is not an attack on board members who
by extension of administration are fair game in their eyes but this was an instance of a teacher a coach an educator who Did not feel supported by the keel area community at large and we focused a lot of our energy on Making sure our students feel welcome and included and I do feel Some burden as a board member that we were not able to uphold that for our staff as well And I think this is an individual who also Fostered that inclusiveness for kids and that will be missed and it is a detriment to the district And I think we do need to explore some options as a board As Tony said the to protect all the staff when this crap goes comes out And this isn't like fundamental differences of you know Public education
or not public education kind of discussions or taxes and things like that this is Just hatred and nastiness Yeah, at first it was supposed to be this group coming and telling us how you know how we should have good Christian values And now this same group of people are doing these kinds of things behind the scenes. It's awful. It's just Horrible, and we need to move forward Whatever that looks like to support staff And I know several board members asked dr. Ebert to reach out to the staff member to do and He was willing to do that and disaster you know is there anything we can do to keep you here or to encourage you to stay here and Staff member that's very very well liked by students as well. I think that's what I
wanted to add and you added it Dan is We're here to support our kids and our students and our students had a wonderful Interaction with this teacher This teacher helped a lot of students and they enjoyed him as a teacher And for no other reason than a few people Feeling it was their duty To harass someone to the point of leaving We now have lost a really great teacher and a teacher who would probably be around many years had a lot of teaching ahead of him, so I Agree that as a board I Don't know what it is, but I think it is worth discussion. How do we support the staff? who find themselves under that microscope of bullying Harassment, I think we need to talk about it and look for ways to live our
policy So I do believe do we need to vote on the non-action item? No, but we can send future agenda items. Yeah agreed any further Again, thank you. Mr. Johannes for bringing that forward election of officers representatives and official appointments Will begin with election of Board of Education president and can we get the Chart up there or is it in the attachment to the agenda? I know we all have an email Thank you. So for present is it myself and mr. By check are the two options? So, please vote for one do you have the pinks and the blues and the yellows and the greens Let's take a timeout with drama nomination. I Was gonna ask for your speech first At this time would anyone like to make a motion for unanimous consent for a
president? I move we unanimously vote Dan Meyer as our president of the school board. I second that all in favor Say aye Thank you everyone, I really enjoy working with you and thank you for all your support and supporting each other Next we have Board of Education vice president and I will remove my name from that role we have mr. Mr. By check and Mr. Johannes Please choose one We're messing up the pink sheets and the blue sheets and we're okay Do we have an accountant firm to count the ballots or? How do you have extra ballots? Actually for you So you have to write a piece of paper and there's an official way of doing this You can announce it if you like, I'm kidding. Go ahead I'm not sure if there's a procedure
Congratulations, mr. Johannes Vice-president next we have election of Board of Education district clerk and the options are So, please vote for mr. Lee or mr. By check And Jim's the current clerk I Congratulations, mr. By check is the clerk now we are voting for deputy clerk Current one is mr. Lee and the options are Make a motion for unanimous consent to have John Lee as the deputy clerk second all in favor Congratulations, mr. Lee Treasurer I will withdraw my name. I'll withdraw mine. So we have two people for treasurer Position and Karen is their current treasurer. That's correct I don't they haven't last year. Who was this year? Okay Congratulations, miss Willie will be treasurer again Next we have Wasby convention delegate and the choices are Mr. Lee missed all and mr. Wenling I'll withdraw
my name from consideration and current one is was John or Tammy Tammy So we have to please vote for miss doll or mr. Wenling. The crowd is riveted by all the action here. We've The only person left here is the one who has to be there to make sure recording happens And he's just on the edge of the seat so excited about all the activity that's happening Congratulations missed all you'll be one is being representative and convention delegate next we have election of Board of Education Keith representative and We have Mr. Johannes missed all and mr. Wenling So, mr. Johannes missed all and mr. Wenling And currently is missed all that's okay, I can make mistakes without help Oh Jim is doing a nice job of origami over there. Very nice Three gets a little
seedy so we need a clear majority. Do we have we have four Congratulations missed all you'd be the key for representative. Once again, I was told that's a best committee out there Next we have Tiff district representative and we have mr. By check interested in that role Before I seek a unanimous consent Did they have a meeting this past year? Did anyone gotten to yes, there was one. Okay So this year after the meeting Give us a report if you could I'm interested. What's what's all excited. I don't want to know it's not on the agenda each year Representatives from Manitowoc and Calum, let's put this as a future agenda item. Okay, we're voting right now. Oh, okay I'll make a motion to unanimous unanimously Elect mr. By check as the tiff representative all in
favor Congratulations, mr. By check election of CESA 7 representative, so you will be con core core Coerced or begged or asked to fill this role. It's actually a nice meeting. I was to one of those a few years ago Anyone interested? Do we know more about the meetings or any of the specifics of the role? Do they meet annually? I believe so, but I don't know anything more about it and that the year has anyone else ever been on that committee been any of those meetings? I went once there was a meeting in Green Bay And then they asked me to be on the board of whatever and I was okay with not doing that I was okay with not doing that So if anyone's interested in that it'd be a great opportunity to learn
more about CESA They do a lot of good work. Should we all stand in a line and the person that doesn't back up gets to take Anyone else interested Would someone like to make a motion I'll make a motion that we unanimously Approve Karen in the position for CESA 7 representative. Well, my mr. Lee is there a second I'll second that all in favor So meeting day and time There is usually some flexibility there, but usually are we working on the third Wednesday of the month is that what what is oh, I'm sorry Right there third Wednesday of month at 5 p.m. Yeah, everyone good with that 530 I'm sorry 530 Perhaps it's too late in the process to ask this question but I question if that is the best time because we set that
every year and then I whine about it every year because If you look at the number of meetings we have There are far more that we have that are not at that day in time than are at that day in time So is there like a better day of the week or you know? I do much of the mess in the schedule up because I have meetings that pop up everywhere and I apologize for that And no, there is no rhyme or reason to my meeting dates and times. Okay, do we need to make a motion and then discuss? Or is this just a voice for I don't do we need to vote on this? I'm not sure if we vote on this in the past Yeah, we need to is that a motion. I
hear mr. By check. Yes I move that we make them at 530 on what first third Wednesday of each month Stipulated in policy, maybe not time but but the Wednesdays and I don't know we change the policy based upon this No, but I mean this ends up being the policy if we approve it One way you could guarantee keeping that time is if you Directed Becky not to try to find alternative dates when a board member or two or whatnot is missing. So That would be one way to lock in that time, but that would mean that you'd have board members potentially missing Solution for I just that's that's a challenge. We've always Well in the past seven years, I'll say we've really strived to try to get meetings where everyone can attend So you
thinking later earlier John Wednesday's the chosen date often because of sports activities and things like that I I understand the Wednesday. I don't have a problem with that I do agree with mr. Johannes. It does seem a lot of times for one reason or another we wind up changing it anyhow, so It might be a moot point really what we do, but I thought that we had Previously done the third Wednesday and then we switched to the first Wednesday. Am I inaccurate on that? I thought last year we made the decision to go with the first Wednesday and then if we needed a second meeting We wound up doing the third Wednesday of the month sounds right And if that's not working for people like I thought that's why we would have a discussion but
I feel like this was Going back to what we did a year ago. So what were we most recently? Third Wednesday, I thought We'll fill in the first if needed Okay, I think it did get pushed back to the third because there was some things we were waiting Sometimes I got so then we kind of it sort of seemed like it started to start a third Wednesday again Okay, because we couldn't get the information together in time to get to the first Wednesday And maybe that's a question to administration is is there something with the cadence and later in the month typically that Allows data to be available or is it not really it's all cyclical data Anyway, it really doesn't matter when it comes in But I like the idea of having the first
Wednesday and emergency meetings if we need or what do you guys call workshops? on the third And the third one Retreat I would just say though to your question I think that we get did get hung up on that in maybe November because remember a poor card releases And until like usually like November 15th or the middle of the month So then it pushed it was going to then push back the report card presentation until December if that makes sense So there are some times when we do have different release dates that aren't at the beginning of the month or more towards the middle But the report card is the one that's coming to the top of my head right now Can we reach out to miss Giebel and get an answer on that? I
think she's probably online Before we switch it to the first I thought there's a reason we went to the third I thought there was multiple times where we had I don't remember That's why I wanted to know my baby have the scenes and we're talking about hey, when's the next meeting? What's on the agenda? I thought that's kind of why we moved around we moved that around mid mid year Did we do it at the beginning of the year? So The motion on the table is third Wednesday at 530 p.m. She said that it was intentionally the third Wednesday on here because a number of items On future agenda items are not typically ready to go the first Wednesday of the month I don't know what they are specifically, but that's what that's what her
take is as far as why the third is on there Anything else for Any further discussion Missed all yes, mr. Wentley. Yes, miss Willie. Yes. Yes Mr. Johannes. Yes, mr. Lee. No, mr. By check. Yes appointment of official newspaper I Move we appoint tri-county news as the official newspaper Mr. By check. Is there a second? I'll second that second my miss doll discussion We'll vote mr. Lee. Yes, mr. By check. Yes. I'll say yes, mr. Johannes. Yes, miss tall Yes, miss Willie. Yes, mr. Wendling. Yes next we have a official appointment of official depository I'll make them make a motion and second or a motion to appoint being first and local government Investment fund as the official depositories, but mr. Wendlings are second second my miss Willie discussion We'll vote miss Willie. Yes, mr. Wendling.
Yes, miss doll. Yes, mr. Johannes. Yes, mr. Lee. Yes, mr. By check Yes, I will say yes appointment of school attorney I'll move to a point Renning Lewis and Lacey SC as the school attorney Move by mr. Johannes. I'll second second by mr. Lee discussion We'll vote mr. Lee. Yes. I'll say yes, mr. Johannes. Yes, miss Willie. Yes, mr. Wendling. Yes, miss doll. Yes, mr. By check. Yes Next designate those individuals authorize to sign checks contracts agreements and purchase orders I'll move to affirm that those individuals as outlined and state statute Are authorized to sign checks contracts agreements and purchase orders move by mr. By check. I will second that discussion Vote mr. By check. Yes, mr. Lee. Yes. I'll say yes Mr. Johannes. Yes, miss doll. Yes, mr. Wendling. Yes, miss Willie. Yes committee
appointments So I think we have two committees that are pretty straightforward and from there. It's a little challenging So I didn't see a lot of interest in a long-term planning committee. That's been a discussion for a few years Should long-term planning be the entire board and if we need to have Pieces that sent around we send it to the committees anyhow because I feel like that's what's happened with some of the things lately Can I go for that? That's kind of where we came to consensus we had our one big meeting and we brought some things forward But we felt everything that we thought of were things that we were already needing to do as a board We were already doing that. We didn't need an extraneous committee to do that work Hence my five
reading Everyone on the same page with that. I don't think we need a specific motion on it. So So next Which ones were the? so finance Myself and mr. Wenling and Karen is the treasurer so she's all automatically on that committee and the other one was Personnel Oh curriculum. I'm sorry. So mr. By check. Mr. Johannes and mr. Lee Chose that as their one or their two And how do we want to proceed with DNG and personnel? We could do a certain discernment process if anyone's interested in Recusing themselves for either committee or any thoughts or do you want to vote is it within our? Bylaws that it has to be three-person committees. Yes. Otherwise, they have a quorum of the board It's been a long school year right time to put the math aside
I had myself down as a to Personnel but I don't really have that strong of an urge to do that So I'm not really a tool I'm gonna say I'm a four. So then we have This miss Willie Mr. Johannes and mr. By check on personnel Buildings and grounds any thoughts may one there That'd be another option So, let's go and vote for this one do we have that option blank sheet of paper, what do we have So we haven't we haven't had a vote on committees Jim since we're on the board Okay We've never voted on committees before I don't think since we're in the board Mr. Lee myself miss tall mr. Went this to win like now is what we need the accounting firm of yes Swindler and Jones and Smith Do we
cheat him and how do we cheat him in hell? Yes It's an oldie but a goodie So mr. Lee myself and this doll are the B and G committee any further Committee appointments next we have future agenda items And an ad otherwise the attempted district. We're gonna add that one. Did I hear consent for that one with the district? Yes, okay Ever see some heads on it nothing and you want to do it now or after the next tiff meeting? Yes, okay And you want to do it now or after the next tiff meeting No, I don't want to do it now. I want to add it to I'm with it. Do you want to do it right after that meeting or do you want to give an update soon? What do you mean? Well,
it's Would you like to give it at maybe the next meeting or the meeting after that or do you like to wait till after? The tiff meeting and do it then as well. We'll do it as soon as possible. Perfect. Thank you Anything else for future Jim Adams No, I say what you're gonna say oh What just the point and related to the resignation whether we have a discussion to see what more we can do Okay, okay Anything further Who would like to really lead review and reflect? That was the most entertaining I've ever been at the meeting with the fourth grade noon choir really cool that we have staff that are willing to Spend the extra time to do those kind of things And I know it's tough for our coaches and people who
organize these things to find time But when they're able to be here and kind of share some of the background that the kids may not think of I think that's that's Kind of cool, too This time I personally sent a message to all the parents of the students invited which is a little different than we've seen in the past The attendance wasn't that much greater in terms of a few individual clothes, but I think that's a more personal touch I just think it's very difficult It's just so difficult for our especially our high school students that are involved in so many things To be here on a game or club night There's things going on all over this district, so I don't blame anybody for not showing up We still share their name. They still
get their plaque and we appreciate them We get to have the fun at the beginning of the meeting but also Talk about the importance of graduation, but letters of intent. That's months and months and months of work Gains the point where we need to make staffing decisions based upon need and based upon budgets and you know That's culmination of that work as well Important important meeting tonight. I just wanted to add this part Selecting different committees heads and all of all of that who's on what it's kind of uncomfortable And the reason it is for me is because we Whoever is here whoever is elected we are elected to work together And so yeah, we're on a committee maybe you have three of us but that is just the pre work to bring to the
whole board and Everyone here is qualified to be on any committee and so it just feels weird to go through that process But that's what we have to do So I just wanted to say I Don't think there is a single person sitting around the table that wouldn't be good at whatever was on this list And thanks to everyone's quick attention again those charts filled out and your names in there for elections and for committees Thank you everyone for filling out staff appreciation week Really cool. I got to go to breakfast this morning. I think I'm going to the next two breakfasts if possible Really need to hear the fun. We had chasing after items Hopefully test staff knows how much they're pretty appreciated by this board by the administration by the community I move
we convene into executive session under Wisconsin statutes 19.8 5 1 and B in Wisconsin statutes 1 1 8 point 2 2 for consideration of issuance of final notices of non-renewal the teachers for the purpose of reducing staff based upon Anticipated budgetary and fiscal limitations for the 26 27 school year to discuss staffing directly relating to personnel The board may convene into open session to act upon items discussed in closed move in mr. By check is there a second No, second second by mr. Lee We'll vote mr. Johannes. Yes Mr. By check. Yes, it's tall. Yes, miss welly. Yes, mr. Wenling. Yes. I will say yes We are in closed and we're meeting in the other room. Is that correct? I'll say yes, too Oh, sorry, mr. Lee, please vote Thanks. Thank you, mr. They missed
you
