Mr. Bychecks seconded segment mr. Wenling Discussion or anything to be removed will vote mr. Johannes. Yes, miss Willie. Yes, mr. Lee. Yes. I'll say yes, mr. Bychecks Yes, mr. Wenling. Yes, miss doll. Yes, we have an agenda gifts to district. Mr. Lee. Could you share those, please? Yes gifts to the district the district received the following gifts Clothes hygiene products and games for students in need at Keele Middle School donated by the Keele Lions Club and a monetary donation of $537.36 to Zalinas Elementary donated by the Knights of Columbus Thank You mr. Lee again, it's amazing how many donations we receive very regularly for all of our schools and specifically going towards students At this time we have recognition for above and beyond dr. Ebert Would you like to take the lead on this place?
I would yes and tonight we're privileged enough to have two above and beyond Recognition recipients in the house and just as a reminder to those that are here a number of years back And I send this out a couple of times a year to everyone. We established a program the school board did That recognizes those that go above and beyond and what does that mean? It means that Employees will go far above and beyond what is required of their typical job requirements exceed expectations transcend or Surpass job expectations in other words They're doing more than their job actually or typically requires to improve the lives of students families the school district or the community at large and They cannot nominate themselves They have to be nominated by someone else or another group or what have
you those Nominations are submitted to me I then do as much research as possible to find out more about what is being submitted Through an interview process of the person or people submitting and then of the person being recognized And so that brings us to two folks here tonight, and I will as I would typically do just for the community We probably have I don't know five to eight or so Recognitions like this every year at the school board level some people are recognized and choose for whatever reason not to come here Some are comfortable with it some are not so we don't know the board does but the community wouldn't necessarily know everyone that is being recognized all right and so tonight we're going to begin with Tony Gribush He is our head cross-country
coach So we'd asked Tony to come on up and we're gonna ask him to sit at the I'm not at the hot seat or whatever you call it here up in front of the school board And I'm gonna do a bunch of talking about Tony and then board members as you know what you're able to do is then Ask questions provide comments about Tony or ask me anything you want about what I'm sharing. I'm actually reading I have it highlighted here among a number of statements that I learned or found out through my Investigation in regards to Tony when he was nominated, so I'm reading quotes right from Nominations if you will all right, so Tony's been coaching keel high school across country here for 37 years 37 years say it again During that time
he has As this person says quietly developed one of the most successful athletic programs in keel high school history He's been highly successful bringing many championships state appearances both for girls and boys But his true impact is not with all the trophies and wins, but on the kids that he coaches for example Coach Gribush starts out the season with a several day long overnight camp that he of course attends and organizes Along with his great assistance It does actually say that in here. Yes Yeah What it what happens here is brings the team together to create an environment where every student feels valued and accepted This sets the stage for the season of supporting one another instead of competing against one another He then or so in this person also says this creates a form
of a family for the students from the very beginning Not something that would need to be done, but above and beyond peace He then organizes and runs the keel invite it's a cross-country race for the community one of the best invites in the area I'm sorry. It's a cross-country For the cross-country community one of the best invites in the area. It's well run organized in a great course Along with that Tony creates many opportunities to highlight the different skills for all the students all the kids they design and create their own t-shirts They help he helps organize weekly team dinners breakfasts all While positively coaching the kids through an absolutely grueling sport and training schedule He cares about them as individuals and students each week Tony has the kids fill out a form Seeing how
they're feeling But also about how they're eating sleeping feeling physically and emotionally so keeping track of their well-being Again above and beyond at the very end of every season coach Gribush gives each athlete a memory book of the season highlighting all of the team's accomplishments There's a number of other paragraphs here. I'm just touching on the highlights and finally you won't see many articles Quoting coach Gribush or see him in many photos. He's truly all about the kids I wish all all kids could experience a life-impacting coach like him in 37 years he's created generations of runners in keel dozens of college runners and change the lives of hundreds if not thousands of students During his coaching career So for all of those reasons and many more Mr. Gribush has been recognized for above and
beyond recognition. Let's give it up for him board members, I just want to say thank you Tony for the dedication to our school district Thank you, Tony. I remember the days of my son being in your care over 25 years ago And what I still remember is that family and all these kids from all different backgrounds came together? And there was some mischievous behavior, but you handled that well, too There was camaraderie and it taught me a lot I had never been a part of cross-country and I learned really quickly that to be a fan of cross-country means you have to run to To see where your people are and where the keel folks are So it was a great experience that I still remember and I thank you and I have a question What
keeps you going after 37 years? There's You get to see me after 37 years when I first started coaching I love running and I love the kids I was always trying to be The great coach Thank you I Would also for you know as my other board member said thank you very much for everything that you've done But I have to wonder how is it working with mr. Bychak? I More of a commentary than a question. It's really hard to coach a long time Karen parents gonna be rough sometimes Season after season whereas it's rare to keep a coach around for a long time And that's really a good thing that we can have experienced coaches stick around for a long time I just reflect a little bit earlier with mr. Grybush about one of
my friends that had a lot of success with running and even into college and those kind of things and Just how many of those stories are out there over 37 years. It's pretty amazing How we coach In cross-country is kind of one of those sports that A lot of people don't understand Yeah, what I mean why people stick around I don't know why people need I do know one thing about parents though I'm one of the coaches way way early on said you don't give me something to do they'll try to do your job I do need help I can't do everything and they do a really great job helping out with that stuff I mean, that's a little tip Well Tony I'd just like to say thank you both as a board member and
a parent of runners that it's not an easy job coaching runners because you have it's such an individual effort and To be able to with boys and girls consistently Have them galvanized as a team and work towards a common goal That that does take a talent and it's appreciated So again, thank you. Mr. Gribble sprawl you've done for so many students for so many years. Thank you All right our second Above and beyond nominee or recipient Our second person to bring up is Brenda cleansing, so we're gonna bring Brenda up She is a full-time Custodian here at Keele High School. She's been with our district for many many years. I do not know how many is it 30 Brenda? 25 years. Okay. I've known her for a long time spent a lot of time talking
with her on Various topics and I will share with you board members that there was a moment in December where I was just inundated with emails from people about Brenda and All about above and beyond and I'm gonna share with you why and I don't know if it all sort of culminated together that a bunch of people at some point just realized like We need to nominate this lady and there's many reasons To nominate Brenda there's some very very specific or very specific ones that I'm going to share why these people were sending me emails about Brenda and so I'm gonna read a few of the the lines and then you'll see what I mean. Okay Let's see here. So One of the one of the people share here that I'll do this one here
Brenda is a team player and willing to help with anything that's needed What I've seen firsthand is that Brenda comes in on her own on her on her off time and Vacation days to help the staff with cleaning up from events when they are short staff So I didn't I didn't know this but apparently You know Brenda has vacation days or whatever it may be right and when she learns that somebody is out Sick or whatever she just comes in hasn't asked for a penny hasn't asked for an additional vacation day and so when a Few people started emailing me about this and I acquired more about it. I learned that it happens all the time She's been doing it for years and I absolutely had no idea I don't know who had any idea
but like we're late on this right with Brenda and so that is in itself Unbelievable to me She heard through the grapevine recently. It was a huge event here in December Somebody went out was out sick came and spent the day helped cleaned up cleaned up everything with our staff that was here There's so many Examples of this that I started to uncover. I'm gonna just share what some of the people are saying But that is the the biggest reason Why she's here tonight? The latest time she's done. This was last night and there's a date We had a staff member call in again leaving so-and-so to do all the maintenance and the whole building Plus the athletic events Brenda heard that the member called in so she knew it was a lot of work
for the person that was Still here she came in and cleaned up And prepared for the next day because there was another big event on Saturday by cleaning restrooms garbages commons It's not something she was asked to do nobody asked her to do it No one asked her if she could come in but rather she did it to help her team out in a time of need This person said this is the fourth or fifth time this year that I'm aware of Alone between fall and winter events not to mention the times in past years. She did it as well To me, this is the epitome of going above and beyond She does not want any recognition for this and she didn't when I talked to her, but I somehow convinced her to be here
Does not want any praise just wants to help out her team as she knows there's a need someone else said She's a huge team player When she didn't have to she came in to help me out yesterday especially he writes she had vacation But chose to only take half of it to come in and help me out with cleaning up the basketball game and helping with the dance Invite the next day she didn't have to do that She could have taken the whole day and enjoyed it But instead chose to come and help me which says a lot about one's character She's done this on so many other occasions, and it's a huge asset to the district I couldn't think of anyone else who deserves it more Her direct supervisor says she's a team player
She even drives me as her boss as well on how to show up and what a team player is and means Those people don't come around very often, and we appreciate her In talking to Brenda she said a few interesting things I believe in teamwork when it comes to our department if we all work together It gets done, and it brings up the morale in our district. She says we need to lead by example I'm gonna leave it at that so For all of the times that Brenda comes in on her vacation days and helps out her team and just being a fantastic team player And so admired by her all of her all of her teammates Let's give it up for Brenda cleansing board members any thoughts And it's an edge. I had to
say to you Brenda and Tony the board members don't know so like I think they're on the spot here Right why while I read this so they don't have preconceived thoughts or questions to ask because they have to think about it a little bit They're hearing it for the first time as well, so board members thoughts when you hear that I Could start if you don't mind please As someone who does a lot of hiring and that type of thing. It's so refreshing and impressive to Hear about someone who obviously has such a deep commitment to their job and their co-workers and obviously the students in the district that you serve Here, so I think kudos to you I'm sure this is an awkward thing and you're probably like why me but you truly deserve
to be up there It's a great story. I love hearing these kind of positive stories My only concern is that this is a public meeting and that people listening might try to steal you from our district All right good to hear everyone note this please They know difference just by You have work family and you have your whole family and far as I'm concerned I like to keep my families my work because without I can't do much more than with them I need to lean on them and when they're in need I believe in being there for them to be a team player in order for Everything to come together and tour and that's just how I feel about and I think by doing that My co-workers are going to grow and they're going to
feel better about things and we're all going to learn from each other It's not one of these things where you got to be on top of each other for equal And whatever part of the school we have to do We can take care of it. It's all of our responsibility and the kids are the same thing They are our responsibility to make sure they're well and it's our job to make sure things are good for them when they come into school Just the way it is Very nice. Thank you so much I remember when My wife and I and a bunch of other people were hosting tournaments for kaba And that's probably where I first met brenda and I knew she went above and beyond back then like what do you need? How can I
get something for you? You know when you can be done. How can I help it was just the just a constant We knew if we needed something who to turn to and we knew that She was there to help everyone and that's what a school is It's it's not just about classrooms. It's but all the other things that the community relies on for these buildings so thank you for that for over the years and thank you for everything you do and I was always told The first lesson teachers learn is there's one person a building You need to make friends with That's the person that's uh Keeps things tidy and will help you out when things go wrong in your classroom. So So is it just you and another person that clean? Okay Thank you
Thank you, so honestly, do you know more about more kids than the principal? And I know it should be yes, I will bring it to his attention or if it's something I don't want to deal with at all I just say this is what happened They're yours now It really is Brenda I just you said everything I was going to say about you And the key words for me Where this is my home This is my family I hear passion This isn't just a job to you It's a passion The kids the students here are a passion the families who roll in and out the community members who maybe don't even have kids here They benefit from someone like you who goes above and beyond doing things that you don't need to do Wow, how
lucky are we? We talk about Raider pride in so many ways Raider pride Brenda, thank you Thank you There's nothing further. Thank you further than you do. Thanks Brenda Next we have presentations from student council Yes, and just a heads up and student council. Come on up get set up board members If you remember not long ago, you had asked to You'd found interest and asked to start hearing from Some of our student groups or clubs or sports or activities and so tonight we have a couple of groups and we're going to Hear from our a couple of our student council members. So welcome. Hi guys So the microphone right can you push it down and just hold it for a second? Yeah Thank you put it right up by your move it right close
if you could Yes, so for those of you who don't know me i'm nate lee I came and presented for student council last year and This is braylon. He's a freshman this year. He's our freshman president for student council and he's also a chairperson So i'm just going to start off by saying that one of the things that I greatly appreciate about this school is the leadership That freshmen bring and not just freshmen but underclassmen And even juniors sophomores seniors. Everyone is super Good at being leaders and Even braylon, he was like I tried to make things work so I could come and present to this meeting with you And yesterday he told me he could and that was great But last year we came and presented some of the roles that we have within
the high school in the school district And so tonight we're going to explain our committees in a little bit more detail how We aim to create a better experience for all students If you have any questions feel free to interject at any point and then at the end we can have room for questions So first off is our executive committee The goal of this committee is to make sure that the entire organization has resources and opportunities that we can accomplish our goals and This entails of maintaining a budget finding chairs for committees at the beginning of the year running meetings for the entire school in Which they can collaborate and express their own ideas for the activities and such that we do So this is built of our treasurer our secretary our class presidents and
then overall leadership Um, so our yearly goals this year were to improve communication for school events We hear very often that students and staff don't know what's going on So we want to make sure that people are aware of what we're doing inside and outside of the school so they can participate And with that comes our next goal of more more participation in activities and student interactions Um, we've noticed that since covet we've kind of had a lull in student engagement In our school activities, so we really want to bring back um Students getting together and doing things as a school and kind of raising that positive culture, which is our next goal We aim to promote belonging and build a student body. That's positive, which I know that our school principals and our district,
uh Our superintendent and mrs. Schwartz. That's one of the main goals that our school is working on is improving that culture so we're aiming to do that as more of a peer-based organization trying to Make the school as welcoming as we can um And then like I said earlier, we really want to make sure that we can leadership Because we're an organization that accepts Anyone regardless of how long they've been in the school whether they've been in the school for a week or four years We want everyone to become leaders and we want to help people grow So actually, um with this five of our six committee chairs Our underclassmen this year. I am the only one that's old. Um but That's one of the things that I was super happy about to walk into
the school this year and see that all of our leaders In our school weren't just starting after being in student council for three years and kind of feeling forced into it They wanted to be leaders And they wanted to support our community Another goal that we came up with is we just want All the organizations in our school want to improve community service They want to help our community and we really want to aim to create events not only for our students But for our entire community, um So moving on our next committee is our activity committee and this is like the one that everyone wants to be a part of everyone wants to Do the activities because our main goal with this was to make school activities that grow school spirit Um, so we
have a couple Uh ways that we do this We reach out for feedback from students what they say counts We take votes and create polls for students to find input We advertise each event in spaces where everyone can participate we post signs on the bubblers on the walls everywhere And then we always find a compromise to create fun activities We hear feedback that people didn't like this or we didn't they didn't like this one thing that we did So we try out new things and then we come up with events that grow over years and Just turn into fun activities like homecoming week all the students get involved That's our most that entire week. We have entire school participation almost and it's great to see high schoolers coming together and Enjoying their time with each
other Our next committee is our communication committee that ties into our goal As an executive committee and as a group to communicate with our students as we just feel that it's extremely important that the school body is informed as well as the staff And we aim to boost engagement and we do this through locker flyers. We do this through flyers outside We do this through the tvs that are around the school. We have a rotate and slide And then we also take it to social media because more and more students Don't care about what they hear on the announcements and such so we have an instagram account Where we make sure that all students can see our stuff and they don't have to be lame and go and look at flyers They can go on
instagram and check things out um our next community is our or next committee is our community committee and this is the one that um I enjoy a lot because this is helping out our community and connecting our school with the wider community because Our school district and our community does so much for our high schoolers and students Um that we feel it's really important that we're giving back to the people around us and so We're doing this by running events in our community like our veterans day program that is followed by the luncheon We hear consistent feedback that um from veterans that they greatly appreciate it and it had a deep impact on it so that is something that we are willing to do again and again because helping our community Is extremely important as
an organization because our community does so much for us And then i'll let braille in touch on unity committee Unity committee our goal is to provide experiences Designed to value the differences between students within the building to make sure everyone feels welcome and feel like they have a place at our school Some of our yearly goals are to find ways ways to improve our community There are statements around the tvs around the school and now or were in the announcements Just on ways to improve the community to have everyone feel unified Goes back to the main goal. Just have everyone feel like they belong in our school and to gain student feedback on the many activities we do We do a bunch of committee We do a bunch of activities in our committee And we
always like to find ways to get new feedback on how everything went And then next is our policy committee And this is the one that is probably most interactive with the school board because Our goal with that is to change our school and our district policies and make it more accommodating for the students because over time Student bodies change and they want different things. So what we do Is we have this great process in which we take feedback from students About frequent issues or concerns we do this from going around at lunch offering candy to people who want to give ideas Some people just reach out to me and they're like, hey, i'd like to see this change. Can we do something about that? And then we evaluate as a group we have our policy
committee and we evaluate Is this something we can change? There's some that it's like well, there's a ton of people In the bathrooms who are just messing around and it's like well, we can't really do that as students like and that's something that our district is aware of and we need to improve that And schools are required by law to teach some stuff like it's like I don't like american government Well, we can't really do anything about that. It's important for you to learn that And then we brainstorm with students and teachers and the committee and that's the part that I really like is because we get to take The feedback we get we get to meet with students we get to send Surveys out and gather information so we can work to make a
demo Or a basic model of a policy or such that would accommodate what we need when still working with the district and then We spread awareness of the issue as we're speaking with administration so we did the We brought way to gpa which got approved a little bit ago And that was something that we worked with mrs. Schwartz with and dr. Ebert and mr. Hurth and we worked as I worked with the staff committee and kind of brought the committee's ideas Our policy committee's ideas to that committee so that the students would be represented and that was something I was greatly appreciative of because you really let students be the voice of change and then that was like Then we work with the administrators to find an impactful change that can last on Not only
when the committee students are in school, but it can be changed for the future So even if we see something that we don't like and it can't be changed right away At least um the school board and the administrators knowing we can create change and then Our last committee is um something as student council Again that we find very important this committee And the overall goal of this is to support the physical mental and overall well-being of our students and staff It's very hard if a student doesn't have the basic necessities they need to learn in a school environment So with that we have made it our yearly goal have a stocked closet or cart at each school that we have Hygiene products clothing products and more that we can supply to students free of
charge and they can go in there without judgment And grab some stuff. So recently We were able to bring this to zelanus as our last school and this closet was actually featured on a news channel and We have contributors in the community who are willing to supply us with clothing and such because they see that the work We're doing is affecting students and we have students actually grabbing stuff It's not that these closets are just there and no one uses them They're used so that shows us that we're creating a deep impact And we really want to just build the idea that everyone can be responsible for their own health And everyone can be in charge of their own well-being and not have to worry about certain things And they can just focus on learning
so thank you all for the opportunity to present are there any questions on anything we touched on So well, did we get through a presentation? I don't think I saw it yet. Will will we be able to see your presentation? Can you share that? Yes, I can share with all of you Do it through the office. You don't have to do all that work. Just one person. I'm just blown away. Um I am So proud of you and all the students who aren't here and the students who maybe aren't part of the student council But without students to participate in the things you work hard to put on Nothing would advance and it wouldn't be as positive and impactful as you mentioned So I know it takes a lot to come before a group like
this, even though we're all pretty darn friendly But it's intimidating and you both did wonderfully I thank you the community the school your peers should be very proud of you And I just can't believe some of the great things that are happening and the big things Like the weighted grade point average those kinds of things. You're not just looking for better soap in the bathroom, you know Back in the day. It was like well, we don't like the pink soap. It's kind of slimy So can you guys get us some new soap? No, this new generation is going for some big impactful things that will help people and I love how you said If it isn't going to work for us, we want to do things that are working for the people behind us That's
leadership So, thank you Thank you for guys for everything you do at school Thank you I think one of your goals was promoting a positive atmosphere here at the high school Could you talk a little bit about what you do to to accomplish that? Yeah, so we've had speakers come in since I was a freshman at this school and for even years before that and the goal of that is to promote kind of like a unity as a school and focus on Making sure that people aren't putting each other down that everyone can find a group that's positive and helpful for them and that Peers are truly an important part of someone's development and this is a key part of someone's development so having the opportunities to have Friends that are positive and having positive
events and feeling like they belong in the school Is just kind of the atmosphere we're trying to promote. Thank you Excellent presentation your parents i'm sure are very proud of you and Make sure you keep on passing along your leadership. It sounds like you have a great bunch behind you Appreciate everything that you both are doing in your entire student council. Thank you. Have a great night. Thanks guys. Great job. Thanks Next we have community feedback. Nope We have another presentation Jen Gardy, Amy Hanson, Melissa Ebert and it appears like there's a number of students here with us And i'll let them talk about that but they are here representing the middle school play so come on up Everyone can come on all kinds of chairs in the front row. Just come on up So
actually we put together just a little 30 second video So if we don't mind hitting play on that it kind of sums up some of it and then we'll talk through it in just a minute This last scene right here is actually all designs that students submitted for our poster contest And so they were all generated by our middle school students And then we voted and picked which one was going to be the poster that went out into the community to promote the show and all So the peter pan and wendy on the bottom is the one that was our poster And then the one up in the corner peter pan and wendy with the hook and the stars That's actually the cover of our program And all the rest of them are featured on
the break of legs that you can buy and give to our cast members And we just opened it up to anybody to submit their design to try and promote the show So this is just one way how we include everybody in multiple facets in this show So you don't have to be on stage to participate in the middle school play And just a little bit of background Mrs. Gardi if you want to talk a little bit about how you guys started this and then we'll talk about a little bit where it came to today Hello, okay. Yes So a few years before covid myself and another teacher kind of we had some kids who were kind of interested in theater and kind of came to us and we Decided we would give it a try.
We had no background in theater really, just a little bit and we kind of started with cardboard boxes and putting it on one weekend and And had a blast. I think we had about 15 kids 15 or 20 kids and then we did it two years later And we had maybe about 20 to 25 kids and then covid hit so we took a little bit of a break and then afterward The other teacher who did it with myself kind of stepped back and I reached out to melissa and said would you like to do With me and she said sure And the interesting thing is that it's supposed to be every other year Just for time commitments and budgets and different things like that And then Jen and I did a year and then the
students were like, please tell us you're doing it again next year And we kind of looked at each other and we thought we really have some amazing talent in our middle school We we can't lose that and here we are now. This is our fourth show later And we have excelled to 70 plus Students participating in the play this weekend We have excelled to The high school tech ed department helps build our sets and they're doing things like building cabaret cabinet tree They're building Staircases, um, they're learning how to fly people. We are flying people this weekend We actually have one of our flyers here. Ashlyn is one of our flyers And so she's going to help fly our characters So really to see where this has gone and there's again many facets you can
do we've got people running spotlights We've got students that are running our backdrops. We've got students running mics and sound We have students who just paint and design and create don't put me on stage No, but the creativity that they come with it's it's fabulous. We've got stage ninjas 20 stage ninjas Mrs. Hansen is our set designer set creator does all of the awesome Painting and bringing things alive and mrs. Hansen is not just a okay. Let's do this. She's like hey, we need trees What do you think that should look like and then the kids design it and create it and paint it and it's not our show It's their show a lot of the times we turn to our kids and we say how can you bring this character to life? And they're
like would we do this or could we do and then the laughter that comes out of some of these kids Because they put their own spin on it So we do have a couple of our cast members here tonight I want to introduce them first and invite them if they want to say something And then I do want to read off the entire list so that everybody gets recognition for the show and again it is this weekend We have a show on saturday at 7 p.m And sunday at 2 p.m At the pac here in keel and tickets are ten dollars for adults and five dollars for students So tonight we have with us elise johannes and she is going to be playing the role of john And we have chloe fitzpatrick who is wendy?
We have ashlyn stitzman who is one of our like I said, she helps fly our characters as well as she's on our stage ninja She's been painting she's been designing and then we have easton gardi who is captain hook So at this time I do want to invite anybody Wants to say something about the show or why you do it to speak and then I would like to read those names for you So one of the reasons I like doing the plays are like it's fun to be with your friends because you don't always have classes with them And it's like fun to act like someone different And try out different things to see what you like acting like I would also say something that like keeps me coming back Being an eighth grade like
you get to like build a connection with like Like our play like there's fifth through eighth. So you're like Learning and you're getting to know like people below you or when you're younger like you get to look up to them So I feel like it's like you get to like build a connection with them and then you'll like have more friends Well said anyone else So in my opinion acting has connected me with a bunch of different grade levels throughout the school and both strength strengthened my connections with already friends prior plays Influenced my friends opinions and they joined the play because they thought that acting was really cool and because of that Our connections with all of the cast members They all strengthened each other and I just feel like acting can connect to
the community very well one of the reasons why I Love doing the stage crew and being a stage ninja Is that oh one I get to hang out with my friends and I get to make art which is really fun Because it's great to see like all the hard work and the art projects we make Come to life on the show with all the actors and using the props and making it like yeah Ashlyn was just down there from four and one of the set pieces that we need to find So even providing time outside of our regular rehearsal And she flies So can you sorry kid? I'm curious. How do you fly them? What are we talking? You're not pushing them off a ladder or anything like that. I'm sure Um, we have like
I don't know what it's called a teeter totter. Yeah, we have a teeter totter kind of thing uh On one side where the actors we have like this hook and then they wear a harness And we connect to the harness and on the side we have um, one of my friends macy gurkey And we have miss hansen and I And we sit on the other side and we have like squat down on the thing like a teeter totter And move them up and down Except it will look magical. You will not see the magic happen, but you now all know I love it. Thank you So i'm going to take one more minute to recognize all of them very quickly I will apologize in advance if I do not say all of the last names
correctly Um, I do also want to mention kim garlieb is our costume designer Um, you have to come just to see the costumes alone the things that she does with a thread and needle Oh my goodness and her budget is usually about 120 dollars and she will costume 70 people so again No, but that's how much she actually spends because she thrifts and she finds things and I mean I would say if I were coming I would a come just to see costumes and then oh my gosh to see the artwork for the Set pieces and then on top of the acting that these students come up with Is just something out of this world and to see this many kids involved. It's awesome So we have alia carothers ania olson abigail bondy addy benversi
addy holler addison sasinski addy barris isla capella ashlyn stitzman alia brunette ali probson alissa oldrich re hearth ashlyn walk aubrey hagenau ava lauer ava tebo blake holts bradley hints braxton miller carter crowell chloe fitzpatrick crosby schwantus easton gardi elise johannes aliza arpky ellie lubach emerson holschbach emily hoban emma perot ava conway everett burger felicia felicia fritz gage reese jenna bondy grace kissinger grace robinson gretta schrage hayley wolf hayley schrieves isabelle truella clements isla curry jc zamora justin durn cat gardi katie hoban kaden hill kennedy manier colton brown landon wakefield layla oldrich leona keenbaum lola schmidt macy gurkey madison hammon martin gilbertson molly weir nolan keather nora schwans oliver sukawaddy olivia pavosky paisley kissinger payton wordio savannah job soyer goodman scarlett meyers sofia cortez sophie oldrich sophie ramminger zoey turkowskis and madison gil and lastly we
have two high school students who have been stage crew mentors that have been coming down to every single rehearsal and helping our middle school kids understand the ropes learning how to paint techniques and using the tools in the scene shop so thank you guys very much and we hope everybody joins us this weekend for the show thank you and make sure we all try to get to the play if we can this weekend next we have community feedback i didn't get any form submitted to me for anyone who's going to have community feedback during the meeting today no okay tell me something good dr ubert do i take the lead on that i would yes and typically board members i would jump in with all kinds of examples and tell you many things that are
good around the district but i'd rather that we start with others in the room that are here that would like to share anything positive about our school district something you see that is good in the community in your classrooms in your buildings anything's fair game we're looking for anything positive going on around our school district tell us something good who has something to share got a hand in the back let's go they're fighting back there who's going to go first okay you guys settle down all right brad hearth high school principal can you okay thank you i'll bring it back by you guys so you can talk too one big initiative that we have at the high school level that will impact all students coming up through in the next many years is a portrait
of a graduate so with our portrait of a graduate through a new program we have called next path basically it's a data compilation program that we use that compiles attendance data discipline data all sorts of things for students but part of that that we learned that we can do is portrait of a graduate so it takes metrics from nine different areas and so it builds in our rater way life skills that students are graded on it builds in activities that they are a part of it builds in all gpa it builds in state assessments it builds in all sorts of things but basically what parents can do is they can log in the next path and they can see where their high school student is at and if they are on track and how many
metrics that their student has met in a portrait of a graduate each of those nine metrics explains that you know in order a successful high school student and a successful graduate will have met the vast majority of those so for example in the activities we know that kids who are a part of two or more activities in high school are more likely to be successful so that's the metric that the committee worked on and that's the baseline it goes off of that is now live so parents if you're listening you received an email home you are able to log in and you are now able to see your student's portrait of a graduate for your student and it's a huge accomplishment for our school huge accomplishment for communicating with home about student success well said
brand yeah portrait of a graduate paper is also being mailed home too so parents if you're listening you will be getting that in the mail as well very good thank you brad others tell us something good who has something could be anybody oh at the back sarah scoville morosky high school principal yeah hello um so i got a couple things first of all uh last week friday we had a fantastic field trip to the experimental aircraft association the eaa and oshkosh for our virtual students thank you keith you are awesome for sponsoring that trip the kids had an absolute blast just posted the pictures today from it on our facebook page there's also some really cute ones in our office and i will be sending some to keith to say thank you directly but it
was amazing we had an actual flight instructor teaching the class and the kids all built their own planes and had to pass two tests throwing things through a hoop and then checking distance and it was all we could do to get them to do the tours for the rest of it because they were so into the planes and then they were so into the tours some of them forgot to come back and get their planes was it was a great day it was a really really great day and it was we had first grade all the way through 12th grade represented so it was it was nice second of all we've had two planetarium visits since the last board meeting one was for our virtual students and we hosted it here at the high school
on the stage and we had a bunch of people who came for that and then i got to go to the latest last thursday and set it up in the cafeteria and take the first graders to mars so that's always a really good day they ask really fantastic questions and whatever mr ramminger is paying the first grade teachers he needs to triple that for many reasons not the least of which is they know their space i was impressed and then last but not least quick plug and yay thank you again to keith we have a fantastic parent presentation tomorrow night online it's free for the community and it's on parenting with task-avoidant kids so you know if you if you're if the narrative in your house is that you're having the same arguments over and
over and over again or i don't want to do my homework this is just in time ideas about really good positive communication jilly dockerty from turnaround parenting is is the presenter and myself in the virtual school we are co-hosting it and then there's another one on march 2nd and those have been promoted on school website social media emailed and there's a link and it is thank you again keith completely free the march 2nd one is all about parenting in the age of tech thanks again though for coming over to his lens it was really awesome it's kindness week so dr evert shirt myself a bunch of us have you'll see those around shout out to our school counselors for coordinating this it's a great way to get kids involved related to kindness but also bringing
in food and hygiene items for the food pantry and keel what a great way to come together so we'll be presenting i mean thousands of items between our schools to the food pantry in keel use the kids will take pictures but it's it's really neat to see i had an aunt and uncle come into school and it was a pretty big deal and got the kids all fired up but that's what it really matters so great job to them we have a radar of the month coming up we're going to recognize kindness as well so that's a really cool thing also miles detroit is spearheading keel radar radio so if you listen to the games there is an alternative to huddle it's youtube and he is a fantastic senior who has really led the charge
along with brandon millbauer who has graduated and it's a really great opportunity to see some of our seniors in school really lead the way shout out to todd and those of you that come to the games as well just to support the kids do see that but you know if you do see miles around tell him great job he sets it all up he knows so much he has done and he's going to school for it too so it's a really neat way it started with chris learman probably 10 years ago and has evolved so much so just a really cool way to see our kids really stepping up and now looking at a career path and miles has to do with you too right I got a couple things so we continue to have
other school districts reach out to us for coming and checking out our amplify ela curriculum had that last week i believe it was a local school district since i've been here i think we've had like 15 or so or something just a ton of ton of schools coming in and just checking our teachers out and what's really cool about it is our kids are just phenomenal during during the visits to them we always get a lot of praise about how well behaved and on task and engaged they are so that's a really cool thing last week our eighth grade students were they just wrapped up their physics unit and mr schwantus took them to sunburst and they did a tubing day it's not the the most proud part i guess of this is that when
they got back i got an email that night from a worker there so they opened up the tubing hill for just our students that day and she basically just said it's the most respectful group of kids that she's ever had out there so that was a really cool thing a couple upcoming events here at kms we're going to be having grandparents slash friends day coming up in march i think march 6 donuts and bingo and coffee and have some fun and then next week we are actually partnering with the high school to do an event that we are going to call connect four so there's going to be a fifth grader sixth grader seventh grader and eighth grader in a group we don't have a lot of connection across grade levels opportunities at the middle
school and then we have about 50 some high schoolers right now potentially they're going to come over and join some of those groups as well just for kids to start hearing from other kids and getting to know students across the grade levels hopefully it turns into you know something that we continue monthly or quarterly kind of see how it goes but just a good opportunity to build some more culture school-wide and not just you know within the grade levels so anybody else for tell me something good anything else to share i can share something good john yes so a little bit ago we recognized tony gri bush and all of his years of service on the cross-country team and in the last few years we've had justin stefani helping out with as an assistant coach
along with mr by check on the on the team and justin really connects very well with the kids and the last couple years he's been assistant coach for the boys high school track team as well and we had an opening for the head track coach for the boys that i think perhaps justin may have been a little reluctant to take didn't maybe feel that that was the level of responsibility but he did step up to the plate and i know that he is looking for an assistant coach so if there are people out there that are listening i'm sure he could appreciate the support but you just wanted to give a kudos to him for stepping into that role very good thank you john i have one i don't have a ton of detail but
a member of the community sent me a link about our fantastic fishing club again and how they made wisconsin public radio and our kids were part of that interview and really did a great job showcasing what they do and how they do it which is even better than what they do is the how they do it and and what they're able to accomplish with each other and and for just the world around them so i would check that out wisconsin public radio dot org and check check out the spotlight on the keel fishing club and mr bondy and all of the great things they're doing could happen in front of you mr johannes the fishing club was pretty excited about the state tournament coming up there's kids scouting that lake regularly to try to find
every fish where they're located there's zip codes and their preferred snacks they like to chew on so great to connect with a group of kids that maybe doesn't isn't involved with a winter sport or maybe maybe is it's a group of kids that just likes going fishing and having fun together so i had a couple things one actually it happened the day we met as a board last month but i hadn't had a chance to debrief with that and that came from the middle school there was and they called it the empowerment and it happened at lambeau field and i think we took our leadership team out there and they kind of learned how to be respectful and respected leaders they also got to meet some packers which were lost on my daughter and that's
my fault but that was still a very exciting day and i think that's a neat opportunity for our kids i know they presented tonight but i wouldn't be allowed in the house unless i put my two cents into encouraging everyone to go see peter pan with 70 people participating the pac will be packed so i know they still have a few tickets left but i think it'd be a good idea to kind of grab one if you're available my third one my third something good is actually questions i think in the not too distant past there were some members of our community who would see wild things on social media and then believe them and i think our community has come a long way to when they see some of these wild things asking questions
and wanting to know more and i think we saw that within our own board packet and some of the emails we got this past week because it when you ask questions that allows us to provide information and i think as we saw like is there some sort of secret referendum coming in april no there is no referendum coming in april state statute requires us to publicly discuss what the question is it had to be out there already i think the deadline would have been early january so again instead of believing that i appreciate that there was the question related to that also just trying to understand our schools better is there a plan that we're using to handle our facilities needs and again allowing us to explain how we have a building and grounds crew
that's working off of a facility study and as they're prioritizing things that need to be fixed and using the resources that we have the challenge of course is that the number of things that need to be fixed are growing faster than we can fix them so although the problem hasn't happened within the last three years looking forward three years we're going to have to work with our community and find ways of doing that just this week i received an email from a gentleman who i got definitely the vibe he felt we were doing something sketchy when we approved short-term the possibility of short-term borrowing but again that allowed me to connect him with mr octer who explained that this is something we do we didn't have to touch that line of credit it's more of
a safety net just in case our payments from the state aren't what we expected them to be and we have to fill that hole ironically it also gave me a chance he happened to be a past board member to find or remind him that this is the same thing he approved several times when he was on the board because that was already 10 years ago so i think questions are a good thing because again it allows us to provide information that our community wants you understated that last one substantially i think the school has approved that borrowing for 30 years other than the last few years we didn't have to so i i think that's something that's worth emphasizing that people are willing to stretch the truth to the point of oh my god this
guy's falling the community needs to start asking questions of why would you insinuate that there's some wrongdoing there because they've done something they've pretty much done almost every year for 30 years so well said mr jonas anything else because i got a laundry list over here yet jim is glaring at me i'll get through it fast girls basketball first ever solo conference title wrestling three going to state as individuals i don't have the names on me congratulations to them dance team i don't know any of the details we might have someone here who does know a couple of the details how the dance team do second third and fourth and three respective dances at state yes very well done i think i'm through most of it other than swimmers correct oh miss swimmers is that
everything now i think we're close okay yeah yeah okay i think that's all and kind of to tony's point i've gotten more pats on the back the last week or three or five from people that quietly support the school quietly support the school board good work everyone thank you for everything in the district people do district wide to support the school what's unique dan is i think i'm not going to go into other examples that i have just for time restraints but the things that people share tonight are just scratching the surface if you want us to rattle off a hundred more tell me something good we can do it right now we can spend it all night all night doing it the team you community members come in and we can do that work
it's not a problem right off the top of our head so i just want everybody to know this is just the things we're sharing tonight are just scratching the surface and recent items you know so a lot to be proud of moving on business items academic success academic excellence scholarship attach is a list of students who qualify for the academic excellence scholarship for the 20 25 26 school year is there a motion move by mr by check is there a second second second by miss stall discussion or questions this is the first year i believe we've had this format is that correct we had a new policy this year has it been similar to this in the past okay questions or discussion we'll vote miss willie yeah mr johannes yes mr lee yes miss doll
yes i'll say yes mr wendling yes mr by check yes motion passes i don't think we pulled anything from the consent agenda future agenda items anything we brought forth there if not review and reflect who would like to take the lead on that i did appreciate the presentations that were here because i i mean it's a it's a small district but it's a big district there's a lot of things going on and whether it's something good or the presentations that we get to hear uh it helps us kind of keep in touch with what's going on in our buildings i'll chime in kind of second on that but just really um the above and beyond recognitions are are very uh impactful and um you know those these are probably two folks that you know they
don't they don't they're not seen every day as one of the core people in our schools but look at what they're bringing to the schools um and um especially you know i've known tony a long time and he's a great coach but the and i'm not taking anything away from him but brenda being here every day with the kids i can't imagine how much the kids enjoy her when they have an opportunity to interact with her because i felt like i wanted to come into school just to hang out with her a little bit she just she's a real light and it's really great that we have the opportunity to um showcase those folks who don't have as much opportunity to be showcased so kudos to you for coming up with that program and and
for those who are still um taking the time to do the nominations and for brad for breaking something i think tonight was a great meeting and if ever a person is in a patch where you're wondering why in the world you serve on the school board or why you volunteer with the schools tonight was it it's the kids it's the kids it's the kids it's the kids thank you kids you guys give us a reason to do what we do so thank you motion i move we vote to uh go into executive session under wisconsin statutes 19.85 1f to review the interviews of various construction and planning firms to discuss our building needs items and information shared have discussed an open may have substantial adverse effect on the reputation of those being discussed the board
may reconvene in the open session act upon items discussed and closed could i get you to table that for one second that motion please sure dr ebert did you want to share who the um candidates are for the upcoming election i think we forgot about that let's go back to the yes thank you for that reminder that was on my list for two board meetings now uh yes so um we have three uh three community members that have put their name in the ring or hat in the ring to run for the school board coming up here in april and those three are dan meyer tony johannes and jim by check those are the three that are running for the board in april thank you we have a motion to go into closed session is
there a second i'll second second mr lee are you glad to make you read that again jim sure solid candidates um we'll vote mr by check yes mr wenling yes miss stahl yes mr johannes yes miss willie mr lee yes i'll say yes we will be in close shortly thank you
