For the Pledge of Allegiance tonight, could we please have our state-qualifying cross-country girls team lead us in the pledge? The flag is right behind you. States of America and the junior republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you ladies. Announcement of executive session. The board will consider convening into executive session under Wisconsin statutes 1-9.85-1F to discuss facility planning, social media, and receive investigation update which, if discussed and open, may have a substantially adverse effect on the reputations of persons involved. The board may reconvene into open session to act upon items discussed and closed. I'd like to welcome our visitors and guests here this evening. Thank you for coming. Is there anyone that would like to review the board norms? Sure. Begin meetings on time, do

your homework before meetings, be professional, discuss the ideas, not the person, be clear and concise, seek first to understand, support decisions, and praise the positives. Thank you Mr. Johannes. Let's follow those this evening as we work through our meeting. I'd seek a motion for approval of the agenda, consent agenda, with identification of items to be taken off the consent agenda for discussion and or separate action. So moved. Moved by Mr. Bichek. Is there a second? Second. Second by Mr. Wendling. Anything to be removed? We'll vote. Mr. Johannes? Yes. Mr. Bichek? Yes. I will say yes. Mr. Lee? Yes. Ms. Stahl? Yes. Mr. Wendling? Yes. Ms. Willie? Yes. Okay thank you thank you back there Justin. And as well as I can see a few cross country athletes. And so what we're going to do everyone

is we're going to invite Coach Gribus up to the front to about the accomplishments of the team and anything else he'd like to share about the team. we will have him call up the participants that are here and the girls you can walk around this way and we'll have myself and coach by check up front you can shake our hands and then walk underneath the screen there and Mackenzie will take your picture so we can send it out on social media and the media okay so I won't talk any further and so I'll invite coach Gribush to come on up to share a few words about the team and here he comes yes well thank you all for letting me talk in front of you sometimes I don't get permission but now I'm going to

so yeah I want to say there's a lot of great things happen in cross-country it seems to happen every year and this year was no less than wonderful we had excellent team of athletes that I would say when you when you we talked about the girls team in particular you talk about a true team a group of girls that ran for each other so that each of them could be successful as a team not necessarily just individually and we had great individuals but a great great team and I think it does testament the amount of friendship that they have in a time they spend with each other not in not only during the season but in the offseason they're always hanging out and doing fun stuff so that sort of sets the tone for everything

and our girls team started out really strong and ran really well all through the season by the end of the year we won the last three regular races so we rent we won Luxembourg Casco and we won the conference meet for the fourth time in a row which again is a huge accomplishment that's only happened one of the time for cross country the girls had actually a five Pete so you guys have a chance to go after that next year and then we actually went into sectionals we were kind of the underdog second we figured we'd be second maybe third and we ended up beating a team that had beat us soundly earlier in the season they were a ranked team like fifth and sixth so we ran an awesome awesome sectional race state meet

again is against the best of the best and we finished ninth there but still close to sixth place actually we were like I don't know like 15 points out of seventh so it was a really a great race and I want to tell you as a coach it's just a ton of fun when you have a team that enjoys being with each other they don't mind me quite as much as I maybe they should but they have a lot of fun and now that to me is what makes athlete athletics and sports just so much fun is when you can do something that most people would probably consider not actually exciting going out and just running like all you do is run yet we run but it's fun and we enjoy it and it makes

us hopefully better people for it all so spent a lot of time in the summer offseason etc working together and working out can you talk about that a little bit more yeah so I think over the years we've kind of have this culture that the captains take over in the summer I enjoy running with the kids as much as I can but it's really their team it's their their goals and their aspirations and so they get together if you guys ever want to join them I'm sure they wouldn't mind they run at seven in the morning or seven at night so you just got to pick the time you want to run and they just run around town and do fun stuff together and I try to give them some speed training once in a

while but they did they were dedicated focused most of the kids we have 18 people on the team this year we had eight girls and ten boys and I would say out of that probably twelve came really regular some of them ran on their own because they weren't able to do either one of those two times but they just again it's just exciting and fun to see that dedicated and that driven to achieve goals um it's like I said it's pretty exciting you I think all of us in our lives have had these goals of trying to reach a goal that would be really exciting and fun to do and not everybody takes the time to do it right and it takes hours of dedication and it takes teamwork right I think everybody holds each

other accountable when you have a team like that they call each other up and say hey we got you we're going now on at seven in the morning you come in and they would get the girls together and it's just exciting to see kids very dedicated to what they do and I think it plays a big role in how they achieve at school so I think most of those girls are excellent athlete academics as well I could give you guys a whole training plan if you need to but I'm gonna say that we all could use a little bit of exercise right I was gonna say one more thing too is it we only had eight girls on our cross-country team if you look at the state teams that were there there wasn't a team

that had eight girls most of them have 16 some of them have 40 or 50 girls on their cross-country team and that's just pretty crazy to think you only need seven to be a varsity team and we're able to do with just eight so there's a couple of girls that aren't here we should recognize though is Jasmine and Laura bank and Carmen Schneider she's not here either so our first girl up would be Evelyn Schaeffer and then we have Nina Krauss she was one of our captains and we have Jada aren'ts she is also one of our captains and we have Kara Madsen and they all Addison Vogel you can smile to that congratulations ladies and congratulations coach Gribush coach Justin and coach by check excellent season next we have a bum beyond recognition mr.

by check do I take care of that as well okay I was just gonna say when they when they're ready they can leave because I know some of them have commitments right after this they weren't listening do I repeat that you guys can leave whenever you want because I know some of you guys are busy lots of homework we won't be offended dr. Ebert you want to take the lead on okay so board members tonight or above and beyond recognition is recognizing someone that is behind you or to your right or in front of you depending on where you're looking but her name is Amber Hansen she's up on the big screen can you hear me Amber yes oh good okay good and we can hear you as well so for for the audience and

for the board as a reminder a number of years back we created with the board a recognition program for staff members that go above and beyond their normal responsibilities duties call of duty whatever you want to call it and how does this work the individual staff members have to be nominated by a peer a student a community member it could be it could be anyone except for themselves all right and so it could be a supervisor for going above and beyond their normal job expectations and having significant impact because of it on students on the community on their staff members it could be any of the above so Amber Hansen is an e-school teacher and she's been with us for three years correct me on anything that I'm wrong here with Amber or Sarah okay

I think I have all the details right as I go along so she's been with us three years in our e-school all right and she was nominated and so the nomination lists many many reasons for the above and beyond recognition and what I did I think it might have been last week or the week before I spent a pretty good amount of time talking to Amber and getting to know her better than I knew her and asked her a lot of questions about why she does what she does and asked her specifically about all of the items that were in the the write-up that came to me all right so before I get into a couple of the things that stuck out after I talked to her or during while I talked to her I

want to read to you a number of the key pieces from the nomination all right all right so here we go Amber Hansen is in her third year with us she's slowly expanded her role in both middle and high school science from the e-school she's a master educator teaches sixth graders all kinds of different things from volcanoes to AP physics and environmental science in the same morning the person that nominated her actually had the chance to observe her several times and so has a distinct knowledge of her work she widely embraced the co-planning mission of the district and no student is without support that she works with and all of her students have access to it just incredible this person describes it as scaffolding designs for universal learning and then says it's not enough for

her to send out a life raft to her students who are drifting she includes life vests and fishing kits and all kinds of things to support all of her students she is a valuable contributor or teaching team has a profound impact on her staff she's a can-do attitude every single in every single meeting she offers to help set up new features or troubleshoot with new colleagues in our e-school and doesn't get paid for it right on this particular day just this person writes just today she spent an hour on a call with a new partner student and their grandparents and translated the materials from his home district special education teacher into an easily accessible format that all of the BTL VA teachers could add to doing a lot of heavy lifting on that end without

being asked to do it Amber's success isn't just about all internal things she gets results she holds one of the highest passing percentages of all of our e-school staff and had all of her AP physics students who took the exam score a three or higher earning college credit let's see what else she provides above and beyond feedback to our students and spends significantly I would say significantly more time with their students providing feedback than would be required she holds her students accountable yet and challenges them yet they feel supported and many many of them have expressed those sentiments when I let's see here when I talked to Amber it was it was really uplifting and I got the sense that and she told me this she said that it's gonna be a compliment to Sarah

and the the leadership group of our e-school that you know she I think Amber told me she was in the classroom for ten years correct am I right on that and this has been a great shift for her and one of the biggest reasons is that she feels fully supported and part of a fantastic group of people working in our e-school and and really likes it here and she told me that if I remember right you told me that because of that she wants to and wants to go above me above and beyond and puts so much extra effort into it because she feels that support and that value okay so this is board members this is somebody and I only read a few of the reasons here but that is having an impact on

her colleagues the e-school at large and definitely the students that she works with and goes above and beyond in all those categories and does it quietly and we all feel at the district level those of us that have talked about that it was an easy determination for this nomination so so again I'd like to recognize Amber Hansen for going way above and beyond the call of duties as a one of our e-school teachers okay I told Amber that she doesn't have to give a speech or anything right that's one way to draw people here okay but I did say that the board members she could say a few words if she wanted but board members would have the chance to ask a question or two or provide any feedback as we would typically do so

Amber do you want to say anything or should we just go right to the board pretty much said it all. I really appreciate where I'm at and I appreciate my team and my admin and I do. I feel the support so much and it's been a long time since I felt that so I thank you. Thank you everyone for that. Thank you. Wonderful. Board members any thoughts? I just want to say thank you Amber for everything that you did for us thank you e-school everything thank you. As you're thinking board members one thing that we as a district can't lose sight of and actually Sarah does a very good job at the admin table of reminding us that not reminding but but making sure that our e-school is never forgotten meaning that like it's a

huge part of our district and we want to make sure we're recognizing the work there and the opportunities that are provided for full-time e-school students but hundreds of classes and kids within our high school and middle school and beyond it isn't just the community needs to know it isn't just you know there's a hundred full-time kids in the e-school from all over the state there's what Brad like five six hundred classes this year that students are taking just at our high school right now to earn credit it opens the world up to to so many of our students. Amber thank you this is Tammy Stahl and what I heard when Brad was talking I especially loved the part where you had family members of students grandparents who you know you kind of wrapped around them

and help them understand and help them navigate with their grandchild how to be successful in e-school and I think families are so important whether it's in our physical schools or our e-schools and I've seen our teachers do that in the physical realm I know it happens in the e-school but that especially touched me that these grandparents could feel okay that they were doing what they needed to do to help their grandson or grandchild and that they were part of it part of the success they're part of us they're part of the Keele e-school in KASD and that's a wonderful thing thank you. I've sat in a lot of enough for one lifetime online meetings and I can just sense your energy like if everyone in my online meetings had that much energy I think they'd

be a lot more fun I'm sure that comes through for the students so thank you for sharing that energy with our district we appreciate it. I just have kind of a question several times Dr. Ebert mentioned the connections you're able to make or lifelines you're able to throw to some of your students what does that look like in a virtual setting compared to what we would maybe see in a brick-and-mortar? So like draw them in a little bit. They kind of buy into that a little bit more. When I said, I was at school them tomorrow with little quotations and like they were being so transparent that makes me feel like you like that. You like to respond to it because that's how I see them, right? It's not really a face-to-face that I expect.

Those types of things I do. Thank you. So thank you Amber. Everyone on the board really appreciates all your work. Thank you for showing up tonight Amber we appreciate you being here. Congratulations again. Yep all right. Next we have presentations, fundraisers. The Booster Club will be presenting will be present to discuss their role with district fundraisers. If you want to grab a microphone and push a button. I just also want to make it very clear this isn't the board trying to micromanage or whatever we're trying to learn better and try to assist you so that that's the goal to tonight's meeting. So hopefully it was received like that as well. So hold the button down for about five seconds. Thank you. You want to introduce yourselves? Bring it real close otherwise you won't hear it.

Yep right here. I'm Chelsea Burris. I'm the current president of the Booster Club. I don't have any children in the high school so yay B. I'm just learning the ropes from Missy the old wonderful not old but wonderful mentor of mine. I'm Missy Velker the past president and part of the I guess founder of the club. So I'm here to help support Chelsea. We're thrilled to have her jump into this role in that she has young kids that will be in the district for a while. You know the Booster Club is specifically supporting the high school students so to have Chelsea wound in for a while is a positive thing. So I don't know if you want us just to talk a little bit and then ask some questions. Okay so the Booster Club was

established for just the high school to support all the co-curriculars here. I don't I guess I should have found out before I came I can't remember exactly when we did this but the idea behind the Booster Club was to try to decrease the individual fundraising that was occurring by all of the co-curricular groups. You're all well aware that most of the athletes are multi-sport athletes at Keele so if they're selling something for soccer and they're selling something for basketball and they're selling something for volleyball they're asking the same people over and over and over again. So our idea when we first established the club was to try to collaborate and have all the fundraisers come through the club and then in turn we have a fund a fund request process that people can ask for

funds to support their needs. That has probably not exactly happened like we would like but it's probably improved somewhat. You know I mean I can tell you that when the athletic complex was built we gave $25,000 to that when the PAC was built we gave $25,000 to that and then over the years we've provided quite a few pieces of extra equipment we will not do uniforms that's the district's responsibility and equipment depends on what it is and when I say that you know we've purchased a batting cage we've purchased pitching cages for the baseball and softball team we bought wrestling mats in the past we've supported the close-up going to Washington DC paid for flights for that lots of different things and so our our big role here and the frustration that we've probably had

over the last year is that all of a sudden people have stopped coming and asking and personally I think it's because nobody wants somebody to tell you what they can spend your money with not crazy about that either but I think that's part of it you know I think they feel like if I want backpacks for my team I'm going to ask you and you should do that for us and in all fairness there's only been one time in my seven eight years that we had to decline a request and it was simply because we didn't have the funds and we encouraged the team to come back and they never did and so that one is I feel like the onus is on them and we were very transparent we aren't going under $5,000 we're

not giving any funds if we get to that point we knew we had a fundraiser coming up and that that group never came back so I think there was a we had some notes to kind of prompt us here yeah frustration on the fact that people aren't coming to ask funds absolutely I don't know okay so I wouldn't know what well just to kind of go into a little bit off of that how what we expect from activities and sports athletics is not much it's coming to two meetings per calendar per year per school year just to kind of see what the club is doing how they can help out how they can ask for the funds a lot of the clubs don't know even know how to ask us for it so that's all

that we require from each of the activities is two meetings a year and we actually ask that it's not even the coach that comes we would love a parent rep to come and just say okay I'm learning more about what the booster club does and what funds we would need so a lot of the times it is the advisors or the coaches but we do ask for a lot of the parent reps to come as well so and basically when we first started we had if any of you are well aware of we had some big uncorked fundraisers that frankly required a lot a lot of time and energy and after I think three the committee was pretty well burned out so we've stepped back from some of that we do a calendar raffle on

a yearly basis and that's been enough to raise a significant amount of money and then last year we started with a business letter just trying to be I guess I didn't say that before either we'd like to be the one high school related co-curricular contact for all the businesses instead of the individual groups again going to each of the businesses and asking for money we had a chamber member come to us a couple of summers ago with some concerns about that so we had sent out a letter giving options for for things that they could be supportive of or could they could just generally donate to so those are our main two fundraising opportunities of funds that go right into the club that we then will pay out the other big one is that we

provide all of the booster items and we allow or that sounds kind of weird we asked that the clubs sign up to work concessions and then they make half the profit really half of it just covers the cost of the items that we're selling but that's another really easy one to be able to just show up and you know a football night you can make a thousand dollars soccer basketball those probably three hundred four hundred dollars but in a few hours you're doing that so that's really our our kind of our big thing the other thing is the fund request form basically just wants them the groups that are coming to us to give us kind of an idea of what they're looking for maybe today and maybe next year so we kind of have

a better idea I usually have asked any of the teams that my kids have been on and frankly any of the teams that are fundraising like what are you raising those funds for and I hate to say that a lot of times it's I don't have an answer it's just kind of a general well just in case so I guess take that for whatever it's worth the one thing that we really would love to encourage yet though are the clubs and the groups that are doing camps I don't think there's any more value in having our high school students with the young kids whether it's basketball camp dance any of those things where they're learning from you know the high school students I hope there's value in that and those clubs and groups are making

you know funds from that as well so that's something we absolutely support as well questions if you had a guess how many of our teams and clubs are participating attending your meetings were you'd be considered actively there I have a hint I think I might know what that answer is but softball has had a representative at every meeting since we started okay they are the one and only but close-up is typically there baseball is usually there so I would say probably five out of the groups are there pretty consistently and we do ask if they do submit a form for funds that they come to that next meeting and discuss it with us as well so if they're asking for the fund please come and talk to us about it it's not just going to

be that form read off and then us talking about it so we prefer that each activity is there as well after that so we can answer any questions about what they're asking funds for so while I really like the idea of the booster club being the umbrella of all fundraising what's the stop individual sports from having their own booster clubs and doing their own fundraisers because I think that's frustration that some people in the community might have who are getting hit up all the time yeah and I think just to be clear the youth groups are still gonna exist so there's the youth wrestling there's Kaba there's youth football I don't know if you football really doesn't exist anymore because the district has taken them youth baseball so those I think sometimes we get mixed

up a little bit with those but the high school booster clubs that are you know that are still existing I don't know exist anymore to be honest I'm not sure yeah you know I guess I would say we we've discouraged that and that sounds like a harsh kind of way but we're really are trying to help and make things better for everybody in the community and grandma Tammy who gets asked every other month to buy cheesecake and you know what I mean like that that's really our goal but what it comes down to typically Jim is that people those groups are just afraid to give up funds you know I think when we first started I remember people saying up football is gonna get thousands and thousands of dollars because they're an expensive sport I

can tell you we haven't given football anything in all the years that I was involved but they sell those crazy cards and that was part of their and they have an alumni group that supports them so I don't think there's any way to you know absolutely prevent and stop that I guess the encouragement would be and I've encouraged parents when a fundraiser comes up for their kids teams just ask why and why they haven't asked the club I think that's about all we can do and I feel like I was sort of more involved when the booster club kind of started like hey why are we doing this and it was almost a utopian belief that hey maybe we ever would come together and support this one thing but you still have groups that quite

frankly raise a tremendous amount of money and probably need to raise more money than some of the other groups with some of the activities they have that maybe aren't as involved as other groups are and I don't have the magic bullet of way my wand and how we can make this absolutely perfect for everyone so you know every every team every club wants to do a little something more for their their students their their team their children so that's that's been the balance of this I think from beginning we were my wife was involved for a few years and it's what these people do is just amazing and help in so many ways and it always has been the question of hey just raise your hand just come to us we can explain what what

we as a booster club do to what we can provide and what we what we don't provide so as a district I mean can we communicate better to coaches can we other policies we need to change is there something that we do right now where we're approving fundraisers we're the one that one that's to prove all these fundraisers and we see the list every year and I don't have the silver bullet for how to make this absolutely perfect so I appreciate your reference and and absolutely we are not discouraging anything you're doing and I think we should be supportive of what the booster club is doing whatever that looks like moving forward in a perfect world we would love no no activity to have to fundraise absolutely so if there's a magic button somewhere that'd

be great but in a perfect world and I think I maybe should have known more than I did coming here tonight but I didn't and so just the conversation we've had has enlightened me to the fact that the booster club is clearly for high school related activities I think I'm not alone in the community of not knowing that we're always getting new families and what have you so I mean that's a benefit I don't know I know there's a link to community things on our website and I'm sure the booster club is on there mm-hmm yep we have our own website yeah I think it links to you know maybe I'm thinking about social media and just how do we help the community understand the gem that is the keel booster club and Dan's right

this was meant to learn and also to get some airtime out there in our community so that our community understands there's a ton of support for our kids which is huge so I was thinking about another interaction I have which is I'm a member of the keel educate educational endowment fund Keith we had a similar challenge if you will money to give but nobody asking and one of the things that really helped and I'm just saying this out loud was we had one of our members who was able to go to the staff in service in fall and just kind of talk with the staff and say hey we're here these are the kinds of things that we can do for you maybe that's something that could happen with the booster club as well and

I think about the feeder programs that we've really been doing with the sports so you're right the camps and the little kids feeding those high school programs maybe there's some opportunity for parent feeders or what about grandparents like myself who I'm going to the games I'll lend a hand if I know that there's an opportunity for me to help out in a hot dog stand or something maybe I just don't know that that's a role I can play because I know how hard it is to get volunteers and it's always the same faces yeah and I had asked me about that once at the store and I will tell you honestly we've been really blessed because once that program with concessions has been established it's very rare that we don't get a group to sign

up because they have started to realize how simple it is you know yeah if it isn't even only $300 but you work you know three hours for that it's something they don't have you know prior to so we've been lucky on that but we would never say no to volunteers you know and it's a lesson in my mind it's a lesson for these students in life mm-hmm if you want something you work for it that includes teams so show up to the meetings I find it disturbing that we have one or two of our clubs or organizations that are coming to these meetings especially when you don't need a coach you could have a parent or some other person to come and represent them so maybe tonight has helped that get the word out and

I don't know Jim somebody always one of us usually asks what can we do as a board to help you we meet every year the first Monday of the month at 530 and honestly our meetings sometimes are over by 550 because number one there aren't a lot of people there no one's you know so it's not a huge amount of time that you have to invest and I know you know when we were even looking for a president Chelsea stepping up you know anytime you hear board member people are like oh nope can't um you know so just coming to a meeting though and finding out what it's about would be super helpful and how can I help you know so I think some of the other questions that were related to the fundraising were

beyond what Chelsea and I felt we could answer so what the 50-50 raffles can we help like donate to you guys like like we can go out and get it I know I can get something but then give it to you right away and absolutely then I will say the 50-50 raffles we stepped away from this year a little bit more because that's where it was struggles to find people to volunteer to help with that so there you go Tammy you can sell tickets but yeah absolutely we would never say no to any of the anything donated like that or any new ideas mm-hmm so first logistics question where do you meet on the first Mondays at the cafeteria in the high school and then I just jumping off on what Tammy said you know

the communication thing you know I I think everybody's probably had some misconceptions about the role that the booster club I think a lot of people you know like you said oh this is gonna exclusively support the football team I know that my eyes were open to the football club even when my kids were in high school which is quite some time ago when the support came through for the PAC project and just general other projects that were in the arts and I was like wait what that's not sports so that's when my eyes were open to the work that the booster club did and I know that those uncorked nights were a huge amount of work they're also a ton of fun they were exactly my point just being you know in that on that

same communication vein I wonder if there's something that we could do kind of jumping off on what Dan said as well with and I can't I know I've seen it but I can't recall what it looks like but the the forms that we have our advisors and our coaches use when they want to do a fundraiser with something like what is the you know projected amount that you want to raise which I think is on the form but also could there be you know a checkbox have we talked to the booster club about this where we're building that into the process I think that would be great maybe and then you guys could be like that's a little too much so we have right now so that would help us maybe as a board evaluate

those fundraisers and also the timing of them potentially absolutely how we can you know I think one of the comments in the survey was you know is there some way we can have a master calendar of this which I think would be a smart thing so overlap and maybe with that piece of information we could somehow generate something of that sure and we can share the the fund request form just so you can look at it and see what it looks like to you as well but I'm talking on our side yeah yeah I think that would be great and sort of to piggyback off of Tammy to we have two other opportunities that we take care of within our booster club is the triathlon as well as a sleigh ball run and I know

we are always looking for volunteers the last year has been rough for getting volunteers for those two events I know I've sent multiple email emails to Brad sending it out district-wide which really helps but I don't know how we could possibly get the community involved in that too you know like if Tammy wants to help our grandma or grandpa wants to help on those events thinking of ways that we can get it out to the community not just members of the high school one of the bigger challenges is missy was there for 15 18 years however long she had kids in high school I think she got break there for one year maybe where one was in eighth grade the other one had graduated before it's really challenged you get a parent that's really excited

about this and they maybe have a couple kids and they're gone in three four years once they really get rolling their kids are all out of school so that that is one challenge that group is always gonna face right and to be honest I have I absolutely would love to stand in support but I felt like it was time you know for somebody else it's like oh god there's a lady again you know so I think there is a point to where I think yeah community members can still be involved and you don't have to have kids in the school but you're right you know and I mean part of the other part of our goals for the booster club were just to be a little bit more unified you know and have support of

all the co-curriculars and not just you know soccer does does that and football does that that it would be a little bit more of a school pride school spirit thing too that kind of ebbs and flows and they sell the peril as well that's a pretty neat thing that the booster club does we haven't for the last couple of years okay because guess why I mean that would be great thank you again for coming and based on what we've learned from tonight I believe even more strongly we need to look at this more closely and do a deeper dive because I don't think what we're doing right now is as good as it should be I think there's a lot of fundraisers out there it kind of feels like the only prerequisite is if you

can fill out a sheet of paper and hand it into a building principle that appears on our agenda I think there's a lot of work that we can do to make it better for our community and our kids we appreciate that any support so thank you for having us yeah thank you guys thank you thank you so Brad you had something to say before I was something triggered in my brain that I thinking about the connection to the school district right it's my understanding and I and maybe this isn't true so help me understand please that our athletic director attends the meetings okay so if that's the case FC both you shook your head yes what is your expectation for our athletic director in terms of communicating to coaches etc about utilizing the funds or

the process the paperwork what what what are your expectations for that initially when we started as a club we actually took Chilton high schools bylaws and just pretty much adopted them and that basically was that all fun requests came through the athletic or he's got a co-curricular because I want to be sure that you know that it's not just athletics it's it's all the co-curriculars and we found that that was a bit cumbersome and sometimes where communication got mixed up so we kind of pulled mr. Walsh away from that he was a liaison and he knew what was happening but we wanted them to come directly to us because we didn't want discouragement of asking for funds and sometimes I think there was a look at at a request and then like oh I'm not

sure if that's okay and I think they weren't always coming to us so we what we're really strongly out there communicating that if you have questions about booster please come directly to booster you know if there are concerns or if there's you know policies and procedures you want handled that it should come directly to us so the the athletic director is just knows what's happening he does come and he he gives his report on what's happening but he's really not directly involved anymore and how the fund request process goes but they have done a really good job of reaching out to coaches they had a dinner a few years ago where they invite all the coaches and all the club leaders so there has been good communication most of them should have heard the message

hey we're here to help you so and I will say being newer within the last last six months I had no idea going in where funds come from what pays who pays for what what are we paying for what are we what are we supposed to be paying for so two meetings ago Steve Walsh was was great kind of explaining like each club has you know a certain budget for this all the uniforms come from a different budget like oh this is what booster club should do so he has been great at least helping me kind of through that process a little bit and trying to figure out what is a necessity versus what a club would just want you know as an as an extra so yeah we've always said we would love to

have the problem of oh my gosh we have ten requests and we have to figure out how to divvy up the money you know that would be great because that would mean that word you know filling the role that we intended or our mission is being tempted we even had that issue I think we may need to your point a staff member to champion this right and really work with and communicate with our coaches similar to what's happening with Keith right now yeah yeah and the requests have exploded because people understand our meetings go much longer now and that's a good it really is just about community communication in the end the understanding and then creating the the bridge so we'll keep the discussion going next we have strategic plan update dr. Ebert and Mackenzie

Schwartz will provide an update on the strategic plan before we move on Dan could could I ask Tony or others you know so so that we have some direction on where you'd like to go and what specifically is it that you'd like to talk about is this is this a retreat sort of discussion perhaps you know one of four every year the other that could go to the top of the list you know and I'm wondering you know is it oh we don't say retreat that's right let's say workshop that's right is the real you know underlying issue the the part that is it that people aren't utilizing enough this group or is it that all many of the groups are doing their own fundraising and there's fundraising going on here and that's becoming too

much like yes so you'll have to determine as a board you know what you want to do with that when you want to talk about it and then you know sort of how much you want to get involved with it because there's different there's opinions that differ in every single every single sport or club on how that how that should work and so you potentially have a lot of people that have a say in that or want to have a say in it because I think Missy said this and I've heard it over the years too different groups or clubs or sports want to have control over their money right and I've heard multiple people say to me like if we fundraise here and then everything goes to the booster club like we just don't

have a say in where that money goes so like if we raise $50,000 you know through our group and then that goes right to the the booster club then do we get fifty thousand back out of it somehow or is that going to be spread out all over the place where two other groups as well that didn't do the fundraising that we did that's going to be the central and core issue and then the control of how it's spent I can tell you that right now that's what you're going to hear because I've heard it for a while you know but um so the initial question is when and where should we dig so let's have it as a retreat discussion I'm sorry yes he has me saying retreat workshop discussion and the other layer

of it is at one time the board used to literally hire every coach and how much do we want to micromanage this you know just think about the realm of you know maybe it's a policy thing not a micromanaging thing on our part I mean maybe there's policies that need need be updated or changed so let's put as a workshop and go from there if there's less word anyone has here that'd be great because I think I mean again my struggle is to things that are our teams and our kids and our parents I think we need to exert more control over because it really feels like the Wild Wild West I can be trying to run four different fundraisers for four different groups all at the same time we can't spread that out I

can some groups allow you to opt out some say no you have to sell I mean then you get to some equity issues well if every family has to pay out all that money to do the fundraiser if there are kids in our clubs and our families I think we need to exert a little bit more guidance and control of how that works it's a workshop discussion strategic plan update you're good okay so this is not a big presentation but more just kind of a follow-up as to where we're currently at with the strategic plan and then some steps that dr. Ebert and I are taking to kind of start the revision process a little bit as well so the strategic plan again still has updated items that are being added to the spreadsheets on

the website so whether things happen at the board level or happening within our building meeting sessions I try to about every couple months kind of go back in and update those so we can see what we're accomplishing in what area of the plan it relates to this year we are not doing strategic plan teams as a separate PLC we actually surveyed staff last year on some of like the remaining items of the plan that would go back to their specific buildings and asked really for a lot of staff feedback on areas where they still feel like they need additional time or additional professional development or additional support and from there we kind of have started building or we built into our building meeting PLC days those specific items so for example I'm just going to

give an example from I think I took this one from Zelena so for like building meeting session one under academic success we did some specific teaching and reteaching on explicit instruction especially with phonics and we know that that of course then helps with student academic support helps with personal reading plans and helps the students grow in that area we also did some specific items under culture and climate some workshops on encouraging appropriate behavior behavior specific praise and procedural checklist in the classroom to help with just providing some of that structure to help with positive behavior so what we're doing is kind of taking it back to each building and really then focusing in on the things that those buildings highlighted to keep working on and a lot of those things overlap but we can also

do some building specific things too which has been for the most part well received dr. Ebert and I are also working on revising the plan based on all the completed items so there's some items on there that were kind of just a checklist and it was done so an example of that would be like adopting a social emotional curriculum we adopted second step two years ago we have multiple years I've done that contract so that's one where we feel really good about where we're at with that and we can kind of move past and cross that off the list and we also know though that there are like continuous items on there as well so there's always going to be a focus on supporting students academically whether it's the state assessments or the curriculums that

we're using I have another example of one that was on there about like supporting our special education delivery model and we're doing that through co-planning which to me is a continuous item so against things that we're gonna continue to live on that plan we're coordinating meetings currently with student groups at the middle school and the high school to learn more about what students would like to see added to a new or revised strategic plan to increase their experience in the keel area school district so that could be something anywhere from their elementary school experience all the way up to their high school experience we actually met with the math club today which was awesome and we've got a bunch of other meetings are coming up into January and February I don't know if you want

to jump in at all yeah no I that was one of the highlights of the year for me actually I didn't realize it would be what it was so we had about 15 kids in math club high achievers I would say you know academically today and they didn't know why we were coming in we set it up with the advisor and we just asked one basic question I could pull it up here but if you could improve and we said more than one thing but improve your school or school district how would you do it what are we missing here was it that you hear your peers in other districts say that they have that you don't have many of you have been here all the way through your elementary experience what do we do

too much of too little of if we read that list to you right now you would be so impressed I get chills thinking about it we only were in there 30 minutes and the bell rang we were still talking we're considering going back to that group to keep picking their brain all of the answers were very realistic somewhat doable you know and and I was so impressed and moved that and I will say that it went from things like you know the life preservers in the pool are in really bad shape because I'm in swimming and they're falling apart so we actually had to save someone I'm not sure they would oh okay well that's something we can look at right away first two and that was a real example I did not pull that

out of the air two discussions about ACT prep or Raider time which we had more of this or less of that you would be you tip over out of your chair we were just going holy cow you know right off the top of their head and so we're heading to oh four or five we have four or five other groups scheduled link crew help me out we've got NHS we've got a leadership club at the middle school at the middle school that's been established student council and on and on and on we're gonna keep talking to kids because I don't think that we did as good a job you know three four years ago we talked to kids we went lunch rooms we sat down by groups we talked it it wasn't as succinct as

this is in sort of a quiet space a very real real space and I think they felt empowered it was good it was very good and it's gonna help drive yeah our plan because we need to listen to our customers and they're a number one customer and so I was motivated by it I was gonna say multiple kids left today after an hour half hour and they're like that was fun all right like we got it like it was good so you know we also learned about as I'm excited about it we learned about different things they thought that were inequities around our district well how come this group can do this but not this one I'm like oh that's interesting I didn't know that or how come we can't do that but you know

I see this school district doing it when we go there for an event and and it caused us to reflect on some of these things and some of those things might not even make the strategic plan like things we can just look at and and handle or consider that we may not have known about you know that go on outside of our purview right so I think it was more than just strategic plan items but yeah yeah absolutely we also sent out a parent survey this fall and we've received about 50 some or so responses that will also you know include as part of all of that information synthesis when we look for a revision and then of course we will plan on following up with staff administrators and board members as part of a

plan refresh but I think to just to add the reason that this plan has been so successful is because there's been so many people working on it at so many different levels so to have staff be working on it and to have you know the admin team and all of these other people working on it there's a lot of it's very much part of everything that we do like it's still part of everything like if people are submitting for professional development or people are submitting for summer curriculum hours or they're making agendas to go over like it's it's aligned to the strategic plan so it's something I feel like is really well integrated and our we will continue to push to see that continues to happen and I hope you as a board think that

this work is really important I know you I know you do generally I think that without stating the obvious we would ask you in the next few months to really open your eyes open every be aware and and be thinking about studying researching what is it we need to enhance here what don't we have what do we want what's practicable etc because you know if it goes on the list it makes it the strategic plan there's a very good chance good things are going to come from it and we hope that it just this last this last one including the one but prior to that is plenty of evidence to show it so we should spend a lot of time you should spend time thinking about it maybe that's a workshop as well in itself

right to debate some of those items that made the strategic plan is half of a workshop and on its own or a full one it's a massive deal it's probably one that it's it's one of the biggest things you as a board can have you know control over and should be driving with us and be a part of as the community you know and so I would I would say that I would say that we're hopeful so hopefully depending on our timeline and how our conversations go to bring a revised plan back to the board by the summer of 2026 coming up yeah we believe we can so is that just the middle school you guys did with the kids or is it all the well here's what happens so we're gonna be in the

middle school talking to groups and the high school we we included the elementary last year I'm sorry you know three four years ago and you know Todd we we got answers like we want a swimming pool out back and we need a ferris wheel and you know can we have more recess and you know like that's what they want but I don't know and so we felt like it wasn't great time spent versus versus working with kids that have been through the elementary that can think pretty strongly about that experience and what they got or didn't get need didn't need so we chose that route this year we thought some of you might ask that actually but that's that was the logic behind it I see how excited you are at having been with the

students and getting this feedback so it's recorded somewhere anonymously I'm assuming or else students wouldn't talk well they were talking will we be able to see data like that because if it gets as far as in the strategic plan and we're looking at it and improving it but we don't know what was included in what I mean this could be exciting for us too you're asking us to review and yeah ourselves in the process I think I would like to hear what our parents saying what our students saying mm-hmm I don't see a problem with that at all at some type of workshop you can see every note she takes yeah as we're talking or staff member Jim we don't like acronyms so Jim can't have an opinion doesn't have a microphone strategic plan could

be a many hours conversation so let's let's go ahead and ask the really really good questions we can email them in anytime the next couple weeks this conversation never never ends and it shouldn't and this is the core of our district so thank you for that presentation and quarterly updates is that is that the game plan typically I think that's what we had written in and we presented it four years ago or three ish years ago it's something too that we could also scale back to maybe twice a year depending on how much you you want to see it's a living document that we work in every day it's part of what comes to us regularly as a board so it's great and it's a light deadline right it doesn't it doesn't mean we have

to start in September of a specific year and I'm not so sure that it shouldn't be a regular meeting I'm not sure if that's something that we need to do in the back room or if that's something we should be doing at a table like this and workshops are open right yeah generally so or could be here too we didn't super exciting let's continue the conversation yeah bring forth their ideas community feedback I did not see any do you have tell me something good dr. Ebert you want to lead it yes I've done a fair amount of talking tonight so I don't want to be the person to start and so I guess I would open up to open it up to anyone in the room that might have anything to share that has been

happening around our school district or our community oh yeah we've got somebody in the back what do we have mr. Arata yep so today I took 160 middle school students to the Kalahari so that was an interesting adventure it went really well one thing I'm really proud of is that whenever we go places like that or just field trips we always get a good response back from from those who are organizing it or running it or whatever just very respectful students and just overall very positive this was related to a fundraiser but believe it or not that very ironic that we just talked about that it's a fundraiser that we use for our school for incentives for busing for field trips so it's it's not just impacting those who raise the money it's for all

kids in our in our school which is it's really helpful and it's it's a nice fun that we have to do those things otherwise you know we might not be able to do some of them but on the trip today there's two really cool experiences where some student leaders really took some other kids under their wing and maybe they're just kind of hanging out in the corner not really jiving too much with other people and they took them and said nope let's go we're gonna go we're gonna go down these slides we're gonna go to the arcade whatever and then another one where a student was struggling it's a pretty big area with lots going on lots of noises and again a student just said let's go I'm gonna take you here and student calm

down and it was just really cool to see that we have a lot of really awesome kids who who treat each other really well so we left on time which is a shocker so that is great we were the email I sent out the parents was well we will back it be back at 415 and the bus pulled up at 415 at the middle school so that's everyone accounted for everyone was accounted for 160 yes we were all there but it was a very successful very successful day to a very successful fundraiser and then just the plug for tomorrow night 7th and 8th grade holiday concert if you're interested at 7 p.m. in at the at the PC so today was our 4k holiday concert yeah it was fantastic one of my favorites but we

moved this year to the PAC we used to pack in like cordwood in the cafeteria and it was really something but today we were in the PAC and we probably had 200 some guests which was phenomenal and they were enjoying themselves the kids did a great job it's not a real long concert but they really did great it and we talked with the team today so home base will be on our the PAC from now on and the kids did great secondly I was on the news today for something good we were contacted and I messaged dr. Ebert I'm like I have no idea what's going on but the wellness closet was actually recognized if you go to MBC 26 there is a segment in which they reached out to us through Facebook through the

good work that our team has been doing posting all the positives the local reporter found it came in and Katie Tebow myself and Laura Furtick had a chance to talk about it but I would say the coolest thing about all of it was when Katie talked about a student who had an idea and how that idea came to fruition and all took was one idea then another student said why don't we just move from the high school because this actually originated in the high school and it was a student who said why don't we take this to the other schools so it's up and running at my school Alex's is up and running shortly but it was such a awesome way to share one of the many good things that we do so and the

last year I'll give to board president Meyer to share later because we really appreciated his visit in regards to the wellness closet in 10 seconds here I'll share with you that a few years back an anonymous community member that wanted no recognition donated twenty five thousand dollars to fill up those closets and said to me make sure that every kid has everything they could possibly need in terms of those type of supplies that you can imagine so it's really something there so busy time at the high school this time of year last meeting I teased the business tours that we were about to go on the very next day so we did end up going to on the business tours we went to 13 local businesses huge shout out to all of those businesses business

owners and workers who opened up their facilities for our students on that day we sent every single kid in the high school to at least three different facilities on that day so it was an entire Wednesday morning that we took we had the band winter band concert and winter choral concert the last two Mondays fantastic shows put on by our students and staff lot to be proud of I sent messages to all those kids just thanking them for you know bringing up the holiday spirit for everybody and we have started our incentive surveys for students so we're starting work getting really heavy into work on planning our a CTS pre a CTS and all the practice testing that's going to be happening once we come back from break and part of that is surveying students

on what they would like their incentives to be for reaching certain goals for students at all grade levels this year freshmen through junior who all take standardized tests think I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch but we actually so we have I think for students who are who applied for early graduation and we had our first be done this past week young lady who came to us last year with the idea that she wanted to get done early is off to amazing things we already celebrated her on on Facebook and she's just a remarkable young lady and so we're super excited it's the earliest we've ever had a kid finish so great her and while you you had my good news with with mrs. Hansen so we're very excited about that we also spent last part

of last week at the slate conference which is school leadership and technology and education conference and we had ten team members here three of whom also teach at Keele High School so we are really excited to have them come back and do like a mini slate for all of the teachers in the district at a future teacher in service day and just be able to share all of the incredible learning and especially for my staff to actually see each other in person super fun thank you Sarah anyone else tell me something good I'll knock out my list right away I have 20 things I'll do three of them today sent an email to mr. hearth at about six o'clock maybe on Sunday a student called me and asked permission to cross my land to get

to the high school and I said do you know how to get to the high school from there she wasn't exactly sure what the path was and talked to us no bill club explained the situation a little bit and so I sent an email to mr. hearth and less than two hours later I think he sent an email to the entire student body very clearly stating that these are these are rules for snowmobile on school premises communication happened to school students understand it mr. hearth do we have students there with them snowmobiles and how many do we have trails are closed by the way so I'm not sure what that's gonna look like good communications amazing and and the fact the student actually reached out instead of trespassing or running down the ditch or running

on the road was pretty cool mr. Romney I mentioned I was at Salinas yesterday two days ago four days ago whenever it was hanging out with kindergarteners as I was farmer for the day a pretty cool bunch really neat being in that school amazing teachers students learning paying attention building relationships really really neat group I could go on for about an hour on that but we have a short meeting in front of us here yet I believe or maybe not a short meeting in front of us and kudos to the board I'm not sure how to say this in a positive manner but I'm gonna do it anyhow for the second time someone has managed to complain about our YouTube channel and get it removed that doesn't happen in any other district there are some

people that with some real problems that want to go after our district and do not want the transparency that we have as a board to be present there are people that don't want to see the good things we're doing as a board and as a district that says volumes for what we're doing so congratulations to the school district it's really unfortunate those people are in the background but we are going to keep doing the good work in spite of people trying to undermine what we're doing as a school district and we're gonna find a way to get these meetings out to everyone so everyone can see what our students are doing everyone can see what our board is doing so dr. Eber is that correct I did say that correctly I'd said as positive as

I could and hopefully we move forward and quite honestly what a waste of time that people want to undermine the school district it's our it's our it's your neighbors it's your children let's move forward anyone else tell me something good Tammy yes of course okay a lot of times people spend a good amount of time on tick-tock or YouTube or whatever Insta well I gotta say this afternoon I spent a whole boatload of time looking at eighth grade science videos about what chemical compounds were in everyday products like disinfecting wipes basketballs ramen noodles an all-time favorite for seventh graders I know KitKat bars the Statue of Liberty and of course bubbler I was so impressed with the level of ability in presentation skills technology skills their knowledge of chemistry and what kind of teacher it

takes to motivate kids to want to do those kinds of projects I was beside myself I didn't get through all of them but I got through a lot of them and I think that's exactly what we're talking about that's the power of this school district is those kids and the teachers that we have that's what they're doing and it made me so proud and I also learned a bunch too probably not eating ramen noodles just saying don't mind but we heard beep in the background Tony go ahead yeah I actually felt that last month's presentation on our academic progress was so positive that it deserved to be revisited under something good and there was so much I typed it out don't worry Jim I will read quickly that's true my not my strength so the

ACT is a measure of academic achievement and college readiness that is used by every district in the state of Wisconsin for the fourth straight year Keele score has gone up and is now one of the highest in the tri-county area that's something good the Wisconsin State Report card includes a wide range of measures of student success including achievement growth graduation rate post-secondary readiness and several engagement indicators as a district Keele scored at four out of five stars or exceeds expectations the lane is a score went up for the third straight year our high school score went up for the fourth straight year not to be undone our middle school made a huge jump to five out of five stars or significantly exceeds expectations that's something good how did we get here I'll actually start by

saying how we didn't get here we didn't focus on the political ramblings of a man who writes a monthly editorial like clockwork and whose claims have been disproven over and over and over again we are moving in the right direction because we are working as a team our teaching staff is working incredibly hard they're doing a great job implementing new research-based curriculums taking part in staff development supporting our students and adding programs and classes which improve college and career readiness our support staff is making all of that possible by making sure our kids have food keeping the buildings clean and operational or supporting our individual students or programs in the buildings themselves our admin team and district office are doing a great job leading communicating and supporting everyone connected to the KASD probably most importantly

our families and students are doing the heavy lifting they are tackling curriculum that is challenging reading together making IXL and I ready part of their nightly routines and if necessary have added the word redo to their vocabulary finally we as a school board are doing our job we are aligning resources and supporting the strategic plan to improve academic outcomes for all of our students that's something good perhaps the most perhaps the best part of all of this is that nowhere are we saying that our work is done all of our team members will continue to take steps to ensure our graduates our college and career ready which is a process that encompasses every building and every grade and that is something our community can be proud of and again that is something that is very

good that's we spread far and wide that look really good in the paper or perhaps I don't see Tracy here at this minute but I know she always listens our meetings or gets the recording the meeting so maybe that could be published whether you submitted or not I think I think you dropped the mic there thank you good work business items academic success first reading of policies attaches a policy that was reviewed by the curriculum committee and is being presented for first reading no action required at this time if board members have any concerns within their send them to Mackenzie or Becky please virtual music teacher attaches recommendation from Sarah Scoble Moraski to hire Andrew Hacker as a music teacher for the 20 25 26 school year I'd seek a motion I'll make a motion

move by mr. Wendling is there a second a second second by mr. Lee dr. Ebert did you have something to add there I do not clear explanation there discussion we'll vote mr. Wendling yes miss Willie miss doll yes mr. Lee yes mr. by check yes I'll say yes mr. John yes mostly motion passes attaches recommendation from Mackenzie Schwartz and Brad hearth to add principals of financial accounting intro to business and excel to to the course offerings at the high school all three of these courses will also be offered as dual credit their curriculum committee reviewed these requests and support them I'd seek a motion adding principals of financial accounting intro to business and excel to to the 20 26 27 course offerings the high school has presented move by miss Willie is there a second

I'll second second by mr. Johannes dr. Ebert did you want to share some it's just it's just another example of what Tony's talking about in the last thing that he talked about with the strategic plan and if you recall you have you have I'll put it this way you've motivated a lot of our teachers we have motivated a number especially our high school teachers to go back and become certified go get extra go go get other certifications and degrees or or whatever it may be take different tests to show they're qualified to make their classes dual credit certified everybody wins staff wins students most importantly when I mean it's just another example this is in this case it's Joe Gerholt who has turned I think it's three of his classes into dual credit certified courses

incredible win for everybody questions or further discussion I don't want to be that guy but can I clarify that the motion is to approve adding principles PLES not PLS acronyms it's spelled right in the in the course itself but in the motion it was oh there it is thank you thank you for that clarification mr. Lee any further will vote miss doll yes mr. Lee yes mr. by check yes I'll say yes mr. Johannes yes miss Willie yes mr. Wendling yes motion passes school academic calendar attaches the proposed 2026 27 calendar that the teacher advisory council worked with central office staff to create for 2026 27 school calendar this option has been reviewed and supported by the curriculum committee I'd seek a motion I'll make a motion to approve the 2026 27 calendar as presented

by mr. Lee second second second by mr. by checks good by check dr. Ebert well I don't know that I'll speak on it Dan but the curriculum committee members could talk through the two choices that they look through and if they wanted if they wanted to otherwise I certainly can curriculum committee you want to talk about that at all I would just add that they we surveyed our families and the results were razor-thin but their calendar represent or represents what the majority of our families wanted in terms of where spring break there was a spring break rather than a smaller Easter break and I think Thanksgiving was two days yet that was the other question on it so it was very close but it did represent what that survey said I had talked to a

staff member our staff member had talked to me and not really you know shoving hey you better do this type of thing but kind of like just a frustration not having a week where her and a family could perhaps go somewhere warm so that was well appreciated by at least one of the staff members I guarantee it if we go this route I would find it hard to believe that other districts seek that amount of feedback from staff and families and take all that into consideration you know and and show their curriculum committees or board all of that data and then you know create multiple mock-ups for people to look at and vote on that's Becky evil right there I mean she's was just a master at putting that together and in doing all the

the coding for it so and making sure we have the right amount of hours throughout the calendar so shout out to her for that work but I'm pretty proud of all the feedback that we gathered further discussion vote mr. by check yes I will say yes miss Willie yes mr. Wendling yes yes miss doll yes mr. Lee yes motion passes next finance facility resolution authorizing a taxable tax and revenue anticipation promissory note for cash flow purposes an amount not to exceed 1 million dollars a task is the initial resolution authorizing a taxable tax and revenue anticipation promissory note for cash flow purposes an amount not to exceed a million dollars I feel like I read that twice but it's on the page twice so I'll read it I'd seek a motion I move to approve

the initial resolution authorizing a taxable tax and revenue anticipatory a promissory note for the cash flow purposes in the amount not to exceed 1 million dollars moved by mr. by check is there a second second by miss Willie mr. actor you want to take the lead on this conversation sure about six years ago we used to do this every year when we got into situations where we were in a little bit better cash situation and equity situation in talking with the bank we decided that we didn't even need to go through this process this is just a line that we could use if we needed it if we were in a pinch for cash luckily we've gotten through the hardest part of the year in terms of cash flow and we received one of our

state aid payments and in December we will start receiving local tax levy payments as well so there's a good chance we might not even need to use this but it's there as just a safeguard in case we do need some cash it's usually related to payroll so if we did have to borrow you know it would be less than 30 days of interest that we'd be paying on what we borrowed questions we'll vote mr. Wendling yes miss Willie I'll say yes mr. by check yes mr. Lee yes miss stall yes mr. Johannes yes next we have property and liability insurance renewal Charles doctor director of finance and facilities will provide an overview of the property and liability insurance renewal proposal should we put the motion on the floor first Charles or sure I'd seek a

motion I'd seek a motion I move to approve the property and liability insurance renewal as presented move by miss doll is there a second I'll second second by mr. Lee Charles okay you've all received the document that shows the premium summary and we actually have annual premium decrease this year did everybody see my email regarding the reasons for some of those decreases do you want me to go through them again okay the one thing that we could consider tonight is purchasing some excess coverage under the sexual misconduct and abusive behavior policy the limit of that policy was reduced from five minute or the coverage of that policy was reduced from five million to two million so if we did have a claim against that coverage our max would be two million we can purchase excess

coverage in three levels one million two million and three million to get us back to five million the cost for just the one million of excess coverage is $12,000 which I did budget a little bit more than a hundred and fifty thousand for insurance thinking that there would be some sort of increase but if we go anywhere north of the million dollar excess two million dollars is 22,000 three million dollars is 32,000 we would be in the situation we'd be exceeding the budget that was created for insurance I'm not saying that's not a good reason to buy excess coverage but in discussing it with our rep Monica from m3 she hasn't seen many of these claims and the ones that she's she has seen are usually in the ballpark of about a million dollars so

she felt that two million was sufficient for our district but wanted to give us the option to purchase back to five if we wanted to to be clear we have no umbrella policy above and beyond that for that correct specific instance thoughts from the board I guess my first reaction would be to follow the advice of the advisor and if you were covered we are covered so no additional or we could just all agree to behave so the motions on the floor ready to approve as presented so for the discussion that was we'll vote I will say yes mr. Lee yes miss Willie yes mr. by check yes mr. Johannes yes mr. Wendling yes miss doll yes motion passes thank you thank you Charles are we on to future agenda items I'm thinking I'm in

the right place anything for that just perhaps a question we started generating some workshop agenda items does that mean it's time maybe to start working on a date for that workshop Tony's looking for more hobbies I need people to talk to me so we have a board workshop for February is that what I'm seeing penciled in usually the one where we share thoughts from the state meeting I thought that one had sort of a standing agenda I'm not sure if that was a workshop though maybe it was oh right there it is well I just read workshop anything further for future agenda items I think maybe we should put on there maybe we can work with the booster club on certain things too I think we had that in the workshop my thought is we

should have someone at their January meeting I'm not asking for volunteers right now but if someone would be interested in going let administration know that hey I'll be going on that day it's really a nice group to work with really dedicated people looking to support students I kind of had a thought similar to Keith you know not saying that we need a board representative on that because we do have mr. Walsh representing the district in a capacity but Becky can send out a doodle seriously I'm not taking my turn I've been enough events in my calendar but yeah absolutely be great we're more involved with things like that if there's nothing further on future agenda items let's take the lead and review and reflect I'll say something we covered a lot of ground tonight there's

a lot of really great things going on not just shared during the tell me something good but some of the other updates that we had there's there's a lot of people that really engaged in this community and really are doing a lot to support the school district both directly and indirectly we talked about praising the positives I would like us to end on a positive note with that it is not all you know rosy and we do have challenges we do have difficult things we're probably gonna have some difficult conversations in closed session and that's okay that's the work that we're here to do but I don't want us to lose sight of the fact that we are here for the kids we are here for education and there were a lot of successes that

were celebrated and in both those respects tonight is that gonna be the last word there's one way to make it happen move to adjourn we have a motion by Tammy and a second by Karen to adjourn we'll vote mr. by check oh so we try to adjourn it completely would you like to amend that motion with a friendly amendment would everyone agree with that one yes okay the motion is to adjourn into executive session mr. by check yes mr. Lee yes special jargon with it it's a legal notice yeah to discuss facility planning social media and receive an investigation update which if this open may have substantial adverse effect on the reputation of persons involved the board may convene into open session to act upon items discussed closed there's a motion is there a second

I'll second it second by mr. Wendling the previous motion was rescinded just so everyone was very clear that's in the minutes we'll vote mr. by check yes mr. Lee yes miss doll yes mr. John is yes mr. Wendling yes miss Willie yes I'll say yes see in a few minutes thank you everyone who's watching at home
