All those in favor, please say I. >> Anybody opposed? Motion passes. the consent agenda. Uh the enclosed minutes from the March 9th, 2026 regular board meeting minutes open in executive sessions. Anybody have anything regarding that? All right. The treasures report, Mr. Cowi. >> All right. There was a balance of $67526 in cash and investments. A detailed report on fund activities included in the financial statements. Thank you, sir. Uh item C, payment of invoices. I trust that you all got it, went through that with a fine tooth comb, and if you had questions, you reached out to Mr. Fetchel. Anything discussion-wise there or we all good there? Good. All right. Item D, resignations, employments, and retirements. Mr. Fetchel, >> a couple resignations. Uh, Mariah Horvich, Hornovich, NES PAR, educator. Marishia Marissa Christensen, district occupational therapist at the conclusion of the 2526 school year. and Gabby Gitley. Um, NMS 8th grade social studies ELA.

Um, currently on leave but intended to return next year but will not. Um, in terms of employment, if we're ready to move on, I'll give you the names there. Alyssa Cam, NES arts teacher beginning at the uh beginning of our 2627 school year. Angela Burnt, NHS principal, beginning in August 2026. And a new addition here, very late in the game, but we did get the hire done. Sandra Crush, IR first grade, beginning again next school year for employment. Does the NHS principal doesn't the Does the contract start July 1st, but employment actually starts because she's a she's less than a 280 contract? >> 218 contract. So yeah, >> I can't remember exact start date off the top of my head, but it's early August. Yeah. >> Does that need to be worded though as the

the start of the contract date >> or doesn't it matter? I don't believe it matters in this case. We're approved >> fiscal year. There's a start date listed calendar. >> Okay. Okay. Yep. Similar to our teachers, you know, technically you're on contract July one, but won't start. So >> yeah, I just from uh >> Yep. Okay. Um, and then one internal transfer, Brianna Matson, IES first grade, moving over to NES 4K, beginning again next school year. Those are our resignations, employments, and internal transfers. No retations to approve. >> With all of that being said, uh, any discussion regarding resignations, employments, retirements, interd district transfer? We'll make a make a motion to approve um the resignations the agenda consent agenda. >> Yes, sir. >> A, B, C, and D. >> I'll second it. >> We have

a motion and a second. All those in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Anybody opposed? >> Motion passes. Item five, approval items, the ACP plan. Mr. Fetchel Carter. >> Yep. I'm going to I'll give you a quick brief uh synopsis of this. So, academic career planning, ACP, because we love our acronyms in this business. Um really lists the work that a lot of our guidance offices are doing to help our students become ultimately career andor college ready. So, Miss Lander is here to join us. She can kind of give us a quick rundown. She's been instrumental along with our guidance office to and our other administrators to write this plan. It's an annual approval and something that we'll continue to to work on as the years go by. So, Miss Lander, if you want

to >> give a nailed it. Um, yeah, K through2 initiative. Um, and then at the end we put goals in there. Um, so hopefully each year we can continue to increase those and add those. And we're looking um forward to with our new leadership in the principal position and superintendent to um find some new initiatives for our students to make sure um they have the opportunity whether they're going uh collegiate or go to college or in the workforce. >> It is an annual process that we do. Um and this is updating essentially what will be >> approved by the board every year. questions that you have or anything we can answer for you. Otherwise, our recommendation is to approve. >> I'll just make share the same comments. You can hear the same thing I put

in writing to Cody. Uh these are really important. These plans I think are are super important for our students and I'm very thankful for the programs that we have. Uh so my my only comment is is that uh let's continue to assess the effectiveness and the take up rate of of okay they are how are they working for us okay as a as a dad of three daughters that graduated from this school in the last uh handful of years um I think there's always room for improvement okay and so I think we got to continue to figure okay let's you leverage feedback from students benchmarking other schools to figure out, okay, what can we continue to do better on those career planning opportunities? And it's not just college either, of course. I mean, I think

what we're doing with the tech stuff is amazing. So, that's that's really good. So, >> yeah. One thing I'm excited about is a few months ago you guys approved the new uh human services, what is that? Human services course. And that course filled. So, that's another thing with the ACP um that we put on that plan and you know, providing those opportunities for the students in a new course. I think it's huge. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> If there's nothing more, I would entertain a motion in a second to approve the ACP plan. >> I'll make a motion to approve the ACP plan. >> Second, >> Dan and Alita. The easy one. >> We have a motion to second. All those in favor, please say I. >> Anybody opposed? Motion passes. Right on. Uh,

item B, summer school courses for 2026. Um, Mr. Fetch. >> Yep. I got this one, too. Miss Craig would normally have been here, but had an unexpected issue pop up. Everything's okay. But, um, annual process. This is a time of year where we start looking at summer school. So, there is a list of courses there that we're looking to run. Um, as it says in the board enhancement, we don't quite have as many offerings as we would like. Um, we are trying to find a way to see if we can get something done at the elementary school. Um, we have pushed out a potential half day option if there's any teachers that'd be interested in doing that to see if we can potentially catch one or two staff members willing to do that. Uh, pros,

you know, it is a little bit more summertime for our staff. Cons is parents typically are looking for full day programming because you have to worry about daycare on the back half of that. But we will continue to try to figure out if we can come up with more options. There isn't necessarily a drop dead date, but we would like to get the board approval for what's listed here. Um, marring the fact that we have to have a minimum number of students register for the class. So that number is 15. >> Is there any option with Tiger's Den to I mean I don't know how full it is. Is that how they could take kids that >> that's part of our conversation that we will have to see what the Tiger Stand is usually busy

in the summer, but that doesn't mean that we can't necessarily look at if we do have interest >> um of potentially adding a staff member to cover the the additional workload. >> Um so we we do want to find a way to give as many summer school options as we possibly can. Is is no one picking up at that level because they need more of an incentive or just >> um that wouldn't hurt. Um I I think the biggest issue is that some of the people have done it in the past are just in different life situations. They you know potentially have families of their own. Um and that always has there's only so many hours in the day too. So we are trying to see if any other staff members are interested in doing

some kind of courses. So this >> those younger kids I mean they fail quick. >> They usually do. Yes. >> It's a matter of getting someone in there to >> Yeah. >> That's what we So this is work that we're continuing to try to do. April meetings when we hit this benchmark. Um and if we are able to add an additional course or two, we'd bring it to the May meeting um for approval. So ultimately we don't need to figure everything out until June. do like the uh and maybe it's just trying to go off of memory, but the uh I mean it's always been there you need at least uh a minimum number of students but the uh talking of partnering with another teacher that you have that ability which I'm not sure I

remember that previously but splitting classes u with staff based on the information here one one teacher works Monday Wednesday Friday there Tuesday and they swap the following week it's it seems seems it it seems like trying to extend some stuff that that maybe would be more inviting. Yeah. Administratively, we want to work with our staff to see if we can make this make this work. >> I'm assuming it has to be a fully licensed teacher. >> Does Yeah, there there are some some uh flexibilities there. There can be, you know, you get sub substitute teaching license, but our general rule of thumb is we want our fully licensed staff doing that to get, you know, a science teacher can teach a course in something else, which we do try to have options that are not

necessarily just 100% academic, but have some summer base to them as well. But, uh, licensed teachers is what's required in order to count the minutes for summer school enrollment. Yeah, we are able to uh count but the the students at what like half or 20% or some odd number. >> Yes. So it's it's prorated based off of FTE but we we do pick up some enrollment based off of summer school um which helps us ultimately in the funding formulas. So and more importantly provides a service to our families in the summertime and our students will find a way to make it work. With all of that, uh, if anybody has anything else, we can. Otherwise, I would entertain a motion in a second to, uh, approve the summer school courses for 2026. >> I'll make

a motion to approve the summer school courses for 2026. >> Second. >> Any more discussion? All those in favor, please say I. >> Anybody opposed? Right on. Item C, policy updates. Uh there's still a plethora there that we are going through on the second time here. So uh Mr. Fetch Carter, I will give this to you. Uh if there's anything I guess prior to act 57 that you want to talk about, I guess that's the one that you're going to talk about a little bit more. >> Yeah. So as you can kind of we we have first read, second read for a reason because there's a lot of them listed here. Um some of them over half of them roughly are technical corrections which we all know are real simple. doesn't change the context of

the policy. Uh, a number of them on board updates with some of the legal language. We work with Neola to vet our policies to make sure we are up to speed with all of the local um rules and regulations that come come out of Madison when new laws get passed. So, there's a lot of them there. We can certainly have any conversations around it um when we get to that point. But, uh, the recommendation would be to approve the policies as listed. So we can open up to questions there Mr. Land if you wish. >> Yeah. nothing anybody >> there is uh we talked about it prior to the uh to the board meeting starting which was a conversation on cell phone policy and the state thing. Um there is a little touching on this

but we are uh the goal is to uh have that policy in place uh based on what we want for the Maple District uh for next month. So going to give people an opportunity to for us as a as an admin to get that get that policy out for next year prior to the school year season ending. But aside from that, >> I I'm sorry. I do have one question. This is maybe a little bit confusing, but um in our handout here, policy 6605 under the special update, um it's a new one for crowdfunding. Yep. >> Did I miss that or I don't see it in the in in the minutes here or in the agenda here and I don't know if I see it in the >> Maybe I Oh, there it is. 6608.

>> It's >> Nope. It's also 6605. Yeah, it's in the um >> special update school support. >> Oh, so this is a new policy. It's one that we recommend. So crowdfunding is a fancy way of saying that. Um what's our favorite one that we've used? Like the donor's choose um where teachers can potentially go online and put up a a fundraising campaign for their classrooms. Um which if they're willing to do that, we would encourage. But we got to make sure that there are some checks and balances on that that um if it's technology based stuff, it obviously has to meet our criteria and play nice with our systems with cyber security purposes. Um, and the understanding that if that teacher were to move on to a different job that that that is meant to

stay in the school district, it may well not travel within teacher. So, um, we don't do a lot of them. I know for a while we had a few, but we wanted to make sure that we had some kind of policy in place if it does pop up in the future. >> Although I think are you, uh, Mr. her saying the I think the paper agenda shows five policies under that and under the enhancement and so there's only four >> that's just kind of the enhancement >> so I guess the I'm guessing the paper agenda that we have is the one that was posted is that correct Miss Keller >> yes >> yeah so it's just omitted on the on our enhancement That's kind of what I was pointing at. So I don't think there's

a problem here. I'm just want to >> Yeah. So I think when we approve it, it's going to be approved based off of the paper copy, not the >> Thank you. Correct. Yeah. It's our internal working documents. >> Okay. Share information. With no other comments, I'll make a motion to approve the >> We won't make you say all those are wrong. >> Well, I was I wanted to read them. >> Let's stretch this baby out. >> I heard you're going to memorize them. So, let's go ahead and take that paper. >> Shut that computer. Let's see what you got. the the list of policy updates >> in the that's stated in the agenda that >> I have a motion entertain a second. >> I'll second it. >> We have a motion to second. All those

in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Anybody opposed? Motion passes. Item D, uh the sealed bids for the building construction house. >> Yes, Mr. Leonard, you have said bits. >> I would like to say, but I am going to say this. I got here a little early to to talk to Mr. Fetch Cottter about a couple things. And him and the uh nice folks in the office provided this letter to me that says, "I, Adam J. Leader, promise to exercise caution for the safety of those around me and myself while the provided letter opener is in use. This tool will only be used for purposes opening the two house bit envelopes. >> He already broke that because >> clearly I know clearly I have a reputation of hurting myself being a danger for others.

So >> so Maya if you want to give a little more space I was looking at it. I was like >> you can run out of the technos. >> So we have uh we do have two bids two envelopes at least here. Uh we are going to open these in the order in which they were received. So the first one was received on April 9th and the second was received April 13th. So with no further ado, see now I got this in the camera. All right. This one is for >> something else. >> Well, no, it's uh >> we got to do math. Is the check for 10%. We got to >> No, it does not reflect the bid amount. It just says an available balance. What's the check for? >> $4,600. So, >> so

if that was it 10% is requirement. So, is this you? Is Mr. Westerland here? >> Steven West. >> So, I guess my house my assumption >> it's $4,600 >> is going to be $46,000. >> That would be my assumption as well. And of course, we will confirm that even though we do put out information. >> I want I mean I honestly I wonder if we should call him just because I don't want to >> I have a phone number on here. >> You want to try to confirm one and we can open up the other bid. >> I'll give this number >> that's the bank number. >> That's a superior number. I know. But this is >> superior. >> Yes, you're correct. We won't want to assume. >> I don't want to assume that. >>

All right. Well, the assumption is that one's for $46,000 for Mr. Westerland out of Maple, Wisconsin. >> That's what we love about seal fits is we don't get to check. All right. So, this is a letter from Security State Bank uh to whom it may concern. This letter is to form you that C Bert Peterson with agent Mark Gary holds an account at Security State Bank has the funds available to place a bid of $42,50 at this time. For additional information, please let us know. So, this is from Mr. Peterson. Well, I'm not sure if it's Mr. It's Seabird Peterson. Uh for $42,50. I'm guessing she went out to She did try to make a phone call. We'll give it an opportunity, but I I do believe we can make a board motion that would

indicate I'm assuming I don't want to speak for the board that you'd probably want to accept the higher bid. >> That's up to you all. Um, but we could make a motion that it's pending confirmation of the $46,000 offer. And then if that for some reason is not, then we would take the second bid if it's underneath that particular dollar. What was it? 42 42 $4,25. Although that's check is written for different than the So the letter shows $42,50. The check is for 4,000. Oh yeah. 205. That's right. So for 42,50 or 46,000 >> 46 is accurate. >> There we go. Perfect timing. Thank you. All right. With that being said, we have two bids. Any discussion? I would take a motion then as to what y'all want. >> I'll make a motion to accept

the bid for 46,000 for Mr. Westerland. >> Yep. >> I'll second it. So, we have a motion and a second to accept Mr. Westerland's bid of $46,000 for the home. Any additional discussion? All those in favor, please. I don't have to do a roll call. I don't think >> we're not spending money. We're taking it. We're taking money. >> All right. All those in favor, please say I. >> I. Anybody opposed? Motion passes. Congratulations, Mr. Wester. >> Another house sale. >> Yeah, that's >> Oh, it was Who was it from? >> How much was it? uh 42,50 >> two bids and now I've lost the authority of my >> once a year. It's an annual process. >> Oh, it does say roll call. >> It does, but we're not spending money. >> Okay. Right. Item

six, the administrative reports. Let me roll here. Uh item A, the unofficial schoolboard election and referendum election results. Mr. Fel, so you guys have the the totals there for um the school board. So there were were three openings um and four people running. And uh Mr. Cowi received 1,699 votes. Again, these are unofficial numbers. They will be canvased tomorrow officially at 9:00 a.m. That is posted. Um Kath with 1,364 votes, Shannon Grayson with 1,276 votes. And Chris Schultz with 981 votes. So Dan, Cat, and Shannon were the the folks that our community chose to to be a part of the board. Um, and also we did have a 14.5 up to a 14.5 million capital referendum question on the the ballot and u we are happy to report that our communities did support that with

um a 1,608 yes vote to a 933 no vote. So it was a 63% yes, 37% no. Again, that'll get canvased tomorrow morning to make that official. So unofficially, we are grateful for our community support, the capital maintenance needs of our building. It will certainly go a long long way in making sure these buildings serve our community for years to come. On a personal note, I want to thank everybody involved with this project. Um it is just beginning and we're excited to begin it but uh it's been a lot of work getting to this point and a lot of conversations I know from everybody on the board with community members a lot of staff members having conversations with friends neighbors family members all of that adds up to be very very important so grateful for

our community support looking forward to do the work and as we talked about the majority of these projects we anticipate will take place in the summer of 2027 seven the large projects so that way we can do the appropriate bidding process and uh we will try to do as much as we can this summer but just of how this is going to work timing wise we figured the line share will be the summer of 2027 and summer of 2028 next steps we've already had some initial conversations with our teams um we will have more of a formal presentation to the board with kind of here's where we sit here's where we plan on going and having a a timeline with that. So, the goal of this whole project is obviously we in my opinion were

very transparent. We'll continue to be very transparent with the construction process of things and also providing updates to our community when the time is right about where we sit with stuff as things get moving. So, just a report for us, nothing to take action on, but we are again grateful and thank our community for supporting us in this project. It's vitally important to help us continue to do what we do here. I I'll piggy back on that if you don't mind. I uh it's the same thing. There was a lot of work from all everybody that was involved community stuff which I I had I had really good feedback out of all of the ones that uh that I had attended and presented with. It sounds like you guys did as well. Um, more than

anything, it was I think that at the end of the day, I think the community trusted us based off of everything that we had shared with them. Obviously, they voted in favor of that. I did get uh I think Mr. Central did too. We we got contacted by the telegram said a few things. Um, I've never been one to necessarily speak on behalf of everybody here, but I did on that one. Essentially thanking the community, appreciative of all the work that we put in, uh, that the community was willing to, especially during the current, uh, economic times and everything else, that they were willing to vote yes on that. So, that's enough on me. Uh, item B, the school school board and superintendent retreat on May 7th, 2026 in Hayward, Wisconsin. I think that's the

one put on by season 12. Correct. Um so this is coming up and um we would ask that if you are interested in going, those of you who have gone, it's usually a pretty good night with u good food and good information. So we have to register by April 30th. So what we typically have done in the past is we get a nice school van to drive a number of us down there. If you wish, you can certainly meet us down. It's at the steakhouse and lodge in Hayward, Wisconsin. Um, but we're asking if you are interested to please let Jenny know as soon as you can so we can get people registered and they can have the proper count. But uh the topics of conversation on there are around uh governance. So board roles

and responsibilities, board administrative relations, and then close session dos and don'ts. So, it's listed in your packet there. If you are available, we would welcome as many board members to go as we can. Item C, communications. You have the social media report card from our social media partners and we did push out a lot of information, continue to try to push out a lot of information via the social media presence. We know that that is a tool that a number of people use to stay connected to all of our buildings and try to share all of the good things that we are doing uh in the school district. So that is there for your review. Um and then we do have one thank you from the family of uh Mitch Lindström. As you guys are

all aware, Mitch was a teacher here for many many years and unfortunately passed away. but his family did send us a a thank you for the memorial sensation that I'm not that Lindstöm family is going through some serious grief I think right now they just lost their son so I think two weeks ago roughly so um please keep the Linster family in your thoughts and prayers because that is a that is a lot of agony to go through here in the last couple months So, my thoughts are certainly uh item D, maintenance report. Mr. Feet Card, >> uh nothing too special on the maintenance report. Um we we hope I'm going to knock on wood, we're beyond the snow removal side of things, but we'll see what April brings us. >> Jesus. >> Other than

that, couple odds and ends, some general maintenance and cleaning. Nothing too far out of out of the norm of what we do day in and day out. So, nothing really of note there. It's listed there with the bullet points for you. Any questions on the maintenance report? >> I give a shout out to Jimmy and uh who's the younger guy? >> Noah when they were me and Jordy were playing basketball and they were scrubbing the bleachers. So, they had a they clean the whole bleachers. That was >> they give a little TLC in the bleachers. We decided to do that over over our break here. One of the days that we got off. >> They were working hard at it. >> We got to get ready for graduation, you know, try to make them shine.

Yes, they they do spill a little bit during the basketball season every once in a while. We'll say uh item E, the WB correspondents and legislative report. >> All right. The legislative assess legislative session adjourned regular business on March 17th. After this date, no major bills move forward and the focus shifted to final approvals, vetos, and future proposals. Um in early April, Governor Iver signed 10 bills and vetoed four. Um, a major school funding proposal was also introduced, um, which proposes $445 million in increase in general school aid and raises special education reimbursement to approximately 60% and aims to reduce reliance on local referendums and property taxes. While proposed, it has not passed on both aid in future advocacy. Um, a record number of districts had referendums on the ballot in April with 61% of

them passing, so 46 out of the 75. Um key policy changes were prioritized over funding changes such as the cell phone um policy, early literacy and curriculum reform, teacher misconduct, transparency laws, expansion of school choice, and updates to health education. Um a special a special session has been called starting April 16th with a focus on redistricting. However, lawmakers may still call a session on tax relief or special education funding. And I did include the link to the legislative update on the WSB website if anyone wants to read more on all of the bills that were signed, vetoed, and all of the things as to the why. >> Thank you very much. Item F, the CISA 12 report. Mr. Pros, >> yes, the CISA 12 border control met on March 17th. Um, I could not be

present there spring break and we're out of town. Um, but what happened to that meeting? Um updates. The Solen Springs superintendent search is underway. Superintendent coaching is provided for a year after and we do all we can to make the superintendent successful. Hopefully they do that here also. Um all of their consultants are also effective coaches within their schools. Leadership implementation and instructional coaching are main focuses of the programs. Coaching services are also provided to the districts that receive federal identifications through the TA network. Instructional coaching consists of one-on-one coaching with teachers in specific areas. These groups include new teachers, new special education teachers, classroom behavior management, autism coaching, early learning support, school counselors, and many others. Coaching can include services for bus drivers and kitchen staff. Um, other items, a 2.63% salary increase was

approved for agency employees and there was a discussion of where districts are with the Belltobell cell phone ban. >> Hot topic. And I would update you on what was said, but I wasn't there. >> Well, thank you for the report even though you weren't there. >> There you go. Uh, item G, donations. Again, Mr. Fet. >> Yep. having to share a couple of them. Uh Lydia Rival for a case of water for a classroom at NES during state testing. So we are elbows deep in state testing across the district right now. Uh Dan Barasa and the Freemasons for two dozen stuffed animals at Iron River Elementary School. Uh Stephanie Clark for boots, jackets, and snow pants for the IRS borrowing closet. Karenson for gently used clothing, shoes, and winter gear for the IRS borrowing closet.

Mike Hoffling for reusable water bottles at our middle school. Our Savior's Lutheran Church for a $1,028 donation to the Angel Fund, and Mike and Melissa Hoffling for a $200 in gift cards for students in need at Northwestern High School. So, we do thank all of our our donations. They are important every month and we're lucky to have them very much. So, uh, item H, reports from the Northwestern Elementary and Iron River Elementary Schools, Northwestern Middle School, Northwestern High School, the athletic director/activities coordinator, the director of special education, and our student representatives, student representatives. Let's have at it. >> I can start. So, I'll be covering sports. baseball had their first official game on Thursday. Um, unfortunately they lost to St. Croy Falls, but then they traveled to a tournament this weekend. Um, and I would

love to share some game results from that. So, they played St. Croy Falls again and lost um 8 to 18. Then they played um Mishkott and they won 10 to zero.
