0017:01. Welcome everybody. Um, all right. And tonight we'll jump into the consent agenda, which includes minutes from the April 20th schoolboard meeting and April 21st um special schoolboard meeting close session um certified and co-curricular staffing recommendations. Um I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda items. I move to accept the consent agenda as presented. >> I'll second. Does anyone have anything specific that they want to pull out to talk about? No. All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. Any opposed? Motion carries. 5-0. >> And as usual, there are personnel items that do not require a vote. So then we move on to public comment. Any public comment tonight so far? >> All right. All right. So then we are on for the McFarland High School student report.

002Who do we have today? We have Dean today. >> Dean, good evening everyone. >> I'm just going to put that out there right now. I owe you an email. So I'll get to that this week. >> All good. >> Happy May everyone. I feel like April was super short. So feel like we're really rounding up the end of the year here. >> Short. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's what he said. was sore. >> Holy cow. I'm sorry. >> Or it flew. It felt felt. It's true. >> I'm sorry if it >> No, that's fine. You do your thing. You're doing it well. >> Here we go. >> Okay. So, getting right into things. This is the 14th edition of the McFarland High School student report for the 2025 through 2026 school year. Um, so starting off

003with our highlights. So the student council's annual cancer awareness week ended on Friday, April 24th. After numerous days of successful representation, education, and advocacy, we brought back our teacher in paradise day where MHS students pay to get their teachers out of class. The two teachers with the most funds raised each block would visit Paradise and a sub would take their place for half of the block. This year, MHS students raised approximately $200 to support cancer research. Student council matched $300 of their funds for a total of $500 which was donated to the W Carbone Cancer Center as decided by student council members. Student council members also made cards for cancer patients as well as staff and it was great to engage with our fellow classmates and to support a wonderful cause. Um I know I'm

004excited to bring it back once again next year. Moving on to our clubs. Um, with Hope Squad, they will trans travel to the other schools later this month to engage and bond with their younger Spartans, meeting them where they are at with concepts that are important for them to know like kindness and awareness while also helping to prepare them for more mature lessons in the future. This is all a part of our efforts this month as May is mental health awareness month and the McFarland Hope Squad has many other events planned for coming weeks to spread awareness for mental health and to reduce the stigma around it within our community. Last week, the McFarland DECA traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, where they attended their biggest event of the year, the DECA International Career Development Conference, also

005known as ICBC. More than 26,000 students and advisers attended from all over, and they all managed to pack into the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for their opening session. Participants competed for international honors through project presentations and role plays to further their professional development in the fields of marketing, finance, business, and management. McFarland DECA members competed well and Carson and Jonathan finalized and ICDC 2027 will be held in Anaheim, California from April 17th to April 20th and I know that they are all already excited. In regards to our performing arts, Shrek the Musical had a very successful run a couple of weeks ago, putting on four incredible and hilarious shows that were wellreceived by the McFarland community. I had the pleasure of attending myself and everyone did an amazing job. Um, while seniors are closing the book on

006their high school theater experience, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen cannot wait for next year's musical, which will hopefully be announced very soon. The McFarland music program also has a multitude of exciting events on the horizon. In about 15 minutes, actually, the annual music awards and ice cream social will be held in the performing arts center. uh where students will be acknowledged for all of their time, hard work, and dedication that they've put forth both in and outside the classroom. This Thursday, May 7th, is the fifth annual McFarland vocal showcase featuring MHS groups Pitch Please Kids and Snittens and the McFarland Blue Notes, who will put on a free show of their entire sets curated from music they've learned and mastered throughout the year. This Friday, May 8th, is the Mad City AC Capella Summit in Oregon,

007where multiple high schools will perform and compete. And then finally, on next Wednesday, May 13th, the combined MHS choirs, including Corral, Chromatic, and AC Capella Choir, will present their spring program entitled From Where You Are Now to share their learning from the past semester before honoring seniors with the annual senior slideshow to close out the their final concert with the McFarland High School. And our have been busy with all their sports games, meets and matches. So, here is the latest. So, track and field, JV had a solid performance at Jefferson this past Thursday, and varsity also did well at Fort Atinson on Friday. Baseball had conference games against Mount Horb. Softball had games against Portage Mount Horb and a win over Marshall. Girls soccer had great wins over both Reedsburg and Winona Grove. Boys golf

008had um their varsity competed well at Riverside in the Jamesville Invite as well as at the Morgan Stanley International invite. Um and JV competed well at Fort Atinson in Baroo for an invitational. Boys tennis competed against both Sock Prairie and Reedsburg in conference games and they also had an invite against the Forest Beaver Dam and Milton. Ultimate Frisbee had their senior night against some prairie and they had a strong performance. Um, girls lacrosse have wins over Edgewood and the Sra Co-op as well as an invite to Stoton where they had a win over Bayport and a loss to Crystal Lake. And lastly, here is what we have coming up at McFarland High School. Um, so starting today, it is officially AP testing season here at NHS. Um, the first exams of AP Biology and AP

009Microeconomics took place today with many more to come the rest of this week into next week as well. AP students have worked incredibly hard this year and I know they are all ready to demonstrate their hard work and dedication and also equally ready to be done and move on um from this stressful time of the year. I know I certainly am. Prom 2026 is into full swing this weekend with the dance on the night of Saturday, May 9th from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Madison Masonic Center. This year's prom committee has worked constantly across the past few months since November to ensure that every box is checked. Duties ranged anywhere from choosing decorations, securing times and dates, planning the prom posal competition, working with the prom court, and many more. Additionally, the prom committee

010will travel to the Masonic Center this Friday, May 8th, on their day off to decorate for the dance. Any juniors and junior parents have also been invited to help out. While the group's commitment is not yet over, their time and dedication has been deeply appreciated and valued. Um, I know as the prom committee president myself, I am proud of everyone that has helped out. And while I am very excited for prom, I'm also very ready for it to be over. It's been a long six months. We had a one month break um in October between homecoming and then we started prom right away in November. So, it's been a long time coming, but I am excited. Um, and following the theme of mystery masquerade, Sparty was declared missing, and MHS students will spend this week

011using the evidence and alibis of the prom court trying to uncover the two culprits behind Sparty's kidnapping. So, that's the big mystery, which appear to be the two prom royalty um before the announcement on the night of the masquerade ball this Saturday. Lastly, student council upperassman elections will take place this month for the 2026 through 2027 school year. For the class of 2028, the current sophomores, they will have their junior officer election on Thursday, May 14th. Candidates include Angela Hong, Prince Lander, Nolan McDermad, and Nahal Denoa. Class of 2027, current juniors, we will have our senior officer election on Tuesday, May 19th. Uh, so candidates include Michael Crows, Abby Rapenek, Shrie Smith, as well as myself. All candidates will give a threeminut speech to their entire grade in the PAC during home room on their

012designated day to share why they believe they would be a good representation of their class as a student council officer. Um, and that is all I have for you for the beginning of May. Um, as always, it is great to present this and talk to you all. Say it every time. contact information is always there if you need anything, but if no one has any questions, I will let you guys move on. >> Thanks, Dean. That's great. If if you can actually stick around for just a second. Um I was going to do this at the top of the meeting, but I thought I'd do it before we jump into theformational items, but we'll just officially introduce Yanni McCrae. Yay. Our new school board member. This is her actually her second official meeting um because

013she we had a special meeting that she got to partake in earlier. So, but this is our first open session with you. So, this is Dean. You'll be seeing him a lot. And Dean, you'll see Yanni all the time. >> Hi. Great to meet you. >> Bye. >> All right. Have a great night, Dean. Thank you. Bye, Dean. >> Yes. All of you, too. Good night. >> Good night, Dean with the good hair. I know. >> Yeah, I was gonna mention that that They are looking for more volunteers for this Friday for prom. So for prom setup. >> So >> there are any junior parents out there and juniors sign up. I'll probably sign up. Um okay. All right. So now we will jump into ourformational items. Um first we have our schoolboard notice posting

014locations. So, um, these are specified by board policy. Also, >> noises. >> Oh, >> I love it when the cameras by the I know the cameras are so >> Sorry, distraction. >> That's okay. Um, those are the squirrels that sometimes get us. >> Oh, nice. >> And they sound like them. Okay, >> they do. So, yeah, the cameras when they move are pretty loud in here. Um, but anyway, so we have board policy that specifies where schoolboard agendas are posted. Um, and so we like to review them annually for the public just to know that there's um to know where to look for them and there's a short list that's required by policy and then we always post them in other places too. So, um, just as an FYI for 202627, um, required by policy,

015we post in the McFarland leader independent, the McFarland cable channel, McFarland High School, McFarland School District website, and then other places where notices um may be provided as available is um, McFarland Village Hall or the municipal center, Edilock Library, Indian Mound Middle School, Wabisa Intermediate School, McFarland primary school and then McFarland school district municipalities. Does anyone have anything to add to that? No. All righty. If you have any questions about that or if there are other suggestions for places that we could post them, um we're always open to ideas. Let's see. The next one is the school safety written drill evaluation notification and review per Wisconsin state statute 118.074 CP. Um, and we have I should have said this earlier too, but Mr. Erin Turner is not able to join us tonight. So, we have

016Jeff Mahoney in the hot seat. Um, so if there's anything you want to add, Jeff, at any point, you just jump in. But it's Yeah. Yep. This was um Anyone have questions about the drill report? It was for a hold. >> Super detailed. >> Yeah, I know. >> Probably one of the most detailed we've had. >> Yeah, we get we get really detailed ones and I think that's always helpful for us for understanding what the administration and the staff goes through for what is, you know, of somewhat regular occurrence for them honestly. Um and just trying to help students who are disregulated or in crisis and trying to most of it comes down to protecting the other students and protecting the privacy. So >> I think one of the keys that all of our administrators

017have been doing is making sure that at some point they debrief the situation and look at how they can grow from that. So again demonstrated that they continue to do that to see how they can react differently and better. >> Yep. Exactly. Yeah. Most of the reports we we see actually have those lessons learned on there >> and that's always really nice for that for that p purpose. So all right, great. Um okay, so then we move into our action items and we have a lovely guest tonight. Do you want to come up and join us, Becky? Um this is regarding the um request for the international French trip. >> Yeah. >> Um so the reason we're here today is to um hopefully get your permission to start organizing a international trip um specifically to

018France. This is specifically targeted towards the students that are in the French program um at the high school. Um there will be a requirement and depending on interest maybe could be flexible with it. Um but we'd like to start with students who have finished through level two in the program. Um so that would be at least through the end of their freshman year if they come into the high school having taken it in middle school. Um and yeah the so the dates I think the proposal um I also shared um are going to be moving. It was before I had confirmed when the dates of the school year were for next year. Um >> you don't want kids missing out on school. >> Yeah, we'll not be missing the final two days of school. No.

019Um and yeah, so we'll be um um putting those back a little bit probably towards mid June, the end of June. Um and the reason it's going back a couple weeks instead of just a few days is actually because in France the juniors um or the sophomores and juniors um have a um an internship requirement. now um at the end of their school year. Um and that's one of the kind of hallmarks of the program that I would like to choose to organize through is that they also organize a family stay experience. >> Um and so if our students would be staying with a family, they would ideally have another teenager there with them. And so if they're on an internship, that would make it difficult. So >> true. >> Yeah, that's good. >> All

020right. Yeah, we you shared a lot of information ahead of time, so thank you for that. >> Of course. Um, does anyone have any questions for Becky? >> I just want to say I'm totally jealous. I have a French minor from college. I don't use it, but I have it. And, uh, the itinerary looks pretty amazing. >> I'm very excited. >> Like, I'm so jealous. So, um, kudos to you for putting this together for you guys. >> Yeah. >> We'll see how many students are interested. I could eat extra chaperones, so, >> you know, sign me up. Chaperon for chaperones. >> Yes. Um well, and I um what I liked about this one, I mean, we have a lot of opportunities, I think, for kids to travel internationally in our school district at the high

021school. And >> what I liked about this one is that it was different and that it was specific to French students, so it's a little bit smaller >> group. Um and then the family stay like that's great to incorporate that. I don't um I don't think that this company has been one that we've seen come through before, right? But they have a long history it looks like of >> they do. Um I was actually I was think I just was chatting with Megan as we were walking in together. The last time I was at a schoolboard meeting was the last time I was here to request permission to organize a a tour. Um which was right before COVID. So it didn't end up happening unfortunately. Um but yes, so and I actually when I was

022a student in high school um traveled with the same company and so they do they're small but they have a like you said kind of a history already of um with the the partnerships that they have in the communities that they go to. So I'm very excited about it. >> I also really appreciated as you look down into like the cost of it that they actually offer a discount if you host someone from France, Spain or Argentina. I just think that's such a cool, >> you know, exchange idea. >> That's what it is. >> Yeah. >> They're really, they're all about the kind of the cultural exchange. Um, not just, you know, being there and seeing the sites and being a tourist, but trying to, um, really get to know the culture of the place

023that you're going to. And that includes welcoming people from that culture into your family as well. >> Yeah. It's so cool. >> Any other questions or comments? Just on a as a side, this is how my brother met his wife. >> And my brother is now living in France. >> Oh, wow. >> It's a it's a long story, but it's quite pretty amazing. >> A >> so kind of cool. Yeah. >> Well, and you I mean, in your summary, you said that that's also how you met your spouse. So, >> true. >> I mean, it's a totally different educational experience when you can travel and learn about other cultures. So, this is great. So, this will be my first trip that I am trying to organize. Um, but I know there's also a trip this

024summer that's going to France and another place. I'm not quite as familiar with it. Um, I will not be a chaperon on that trip unfortunately. Um, I am going to France this summer. But, um, that's organized through the social studies department. Um, and there is not um kind of like was mentioned before, not a specific French focus, not a like language requirement to go. Um, more of kind of a touristy >> focus. Um, and then there's also, I believe, another trip to Peru that's happening next summer as well. >> Yeah, it tends to be either every other year there's an opportunity or like in this case it'll be a it'll there'll be two opportunities. So, yeah. So, and it's and um for the public as we always are talking about fiscal responsibility, these international trips

025are not um they are fully student and family funded. Um and it's no taxpayer dollars that are paying for it. So, um it's really from the efforts of the organizers. So, Becky here, um who's really putting in that extra that extra effort for education. So, yep. That's great. >> That it takes so much time. My wife and I end up bringing a group of kids to Russia. It was only five of us or five students with Jane and me. And oh my gosh, the amount of work. And so, just thank you. It is an incredible amount of work. >> A good example of above and beyond to make sure our students have good experiences. Thank you. >> Y and enjoy your trip. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. Well, we have to approve it first. >>

026If we approve it, enjoy your wonderful. Thank you. >> So, um >> I approve international trip for the summer of 2026 as proposed. >> Or is it 2027? >> 27. You're not going this summer. You're going next summer. Correct. >> Otherwise, that's a pretty quick turnaround. Yep. >> That would be very quick. >> And who second it? Yeah. Yep. >> Oh, the So, yeah. Okay, let's look at that. >> Um, >> I think it I think as long as it says summer of 2027 >> in the motion, I think we're clear. >> Excellent question, though. >> Yeah, why don't you repeat it just >> I move to approve that international trip77 All right. >> And I can second that. >> All right. Any further discussion? All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying

027I. I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Hearing none. Motion carries. 5-0. Now, have a great trip. >> Mercy. Thank you, Dorian. >> Yes. >> Wonderful. >> See, I got something in there. >> You do. >> All right. Thanks, Becky. >> Thank you. At least I hope that was right. Was that right? That would be fun. >> All right. >> You too. >> All right. So now, so exciting. We get to um review our schoolboard meeting dates for 2627. Um let's see what notes we want here. So they really mostly um follow our same cadence of first and third Mondays um with the exception of a few months um October. So that that helps accommodate and I'm sure Jeff loves this the state aid allocations and our organizational meeting or our annual meeting, sorry. Um and

028then January um so that we aren't meeting on the um Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Um and then we also only have one meeting in July. >> July. >> And we only have one meeting in September. >> Yes. >> Right. Okay, >> awesome. >> And that's something and something to consider then is that we might be packing a little bit more into our meetings in the with that extra exception. >> September. >> Yep. And then this also includes um six board work sessions which include our quarterly like board retreats and then also um close sessions for the superintendent evaluation. So we're trying to get those on the calendar more regularly so that we know them ahead of time. >> All right. >> Can I just mention >> Yeah. Jane and I are going to be

029going probably well we we're planning to go to Scotland leaving on the 3 which is the day the board meeting and coming back on the 17th which is the day. So >> what month of what? >> August sorry >> this August. >> Yeah. Okay. >> And I know we talked about that action to close session. So, I just I don't know if you should we adjust or you know I just know I'm not gonna be able to >> He'll be up. He'll be gone for all three meetings. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Well, let's um that's good to know. Let me >> I'll look at the calendar and see if there's anything to adjust. >> You said you're gone the 3 to the 7th. >> Yeah, just it works out. >> Okay. Yeah, >>

030enjoy your trip. >> I taught for there for a year, so it'll be kind of fun to go back. >> I mean, you know, it's it's going to happen sometimes. >> Yeah. And it's it's a >> Okay. All right. Thank you. Um, so I guess I mean those are part of the meeting dates. >> Yeah. >> Do we want to approve these as they are or do we Um, or do we want to change them? I mean, I think I guess I would probably recommend leaving them as they are and then we can talk >> and figure out what we need to if we need to adjust anything. >> Okay. All right. But that's good. Thank you for the heads up because then we can at least plan for that. >> Okay. Um, >> you

031want me to make a motion? >> Sure. Is there anything you wanted to add? >> Nope. And that follows pretty much how that usually happens. There might be a discussion later on about changing a meeting because there might be other >> things that come from members. >> Yep. Okay. I move to approve the 2026 27 school board meeting dates as proposed. >> I'll second. Any further discussion? All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Hearing none. Motion carries. 5. Um, now we have um action on the revised McFarland High School Start College Now program requests. >> Um, >> did you need me to jump in? >> If you want to. Sure. >> Yeah. >> Very simply, you know, approved things earlier. There's some names that were mistaken

032for the classes just for two individuals. >> Yeah. Just minor corrections. >> Okay. >> Yep. Any other questions on that? >> Good luck with electrical fundamentals. >> Right. All right. I would look for a motion then. >> I move to approve the revised course approvals and denials for the start college now program request as recommended by >> I can second. Okay. Any further discussion? >> Yeah. All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Hearing none. Motion carries. 5. All right. Action on summer 2026 extended contracts. >> So, this is a routine action item that we come to you each May for. These are positions and individuals that need to carry out duties throughout the summer and they end up being compensated at their hourly rate and

033they complete these hours over the months of June, July and August with submitting information at the end and are compensated in August. >> Okay. >> Um these hours vary uh depending on the needs of the team and even sometimes uh someone might be on a trip. Uh some of their their colleagues might pick up more of the hours specifically on the people services teams. Um in one instance, we do have an individual that will be taking a >> sabatical >> um next year, but we'll be doing some of the hours while the interim person will be completing the other hours. So, >> okay. >> Yeah, I saw this individual on here and I was curious about that. So, >> okay, >> great. Um, and there was one other note here too that this in the

034past, last year the hours used to be more, but this was part of the cost cutting that we did pre-referendum. So, >> um, just to keep that in mind. >> Any other questions about it? All right. I would look for a motion. I move to approve the summer 2026 extended contracts as recommended by administration. You two are really efficient tonight. >> We are cruising. >> Any further discussion. >> All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Hearing none. Motion carries. 5-0. All right. Action on recommended fee schedule. This we probably have you have probably a few things to say about it, huh, Jeff? >> Just a few. Uh number one is you know over the years we have worked on removing fees as best as possible. Our

035principles are very diligent about making sure that their budgets are able to absorb and obviously our fees are audited to make sure that they are something that we can charge. And finally, if their family is unable to pay for these fees, there are alternatives that we work through with families. So, most of the increases are inflationary. Most of the increases, if you went through the entire list, were related to athletics. For transportation, again, what we try to offset uh is our cost of transportation. That's why those fees to go up so that we're not reallocating budget dollars into athletics because athletic transportation while great can be expensive. >> Um I want to note that as of this afternoon we had a quick little change with some updated information from uh MPS that first grade workbooks

036and second grade workbooks were going Apologize. We thought we had completed that. I think another thing is that K2 device will be longer. The availability the school of about 200 iPads they won't be level. will not be insuring them through the company that we work with. >> Okay. >> Timberly >> again is going up. That's another cost that can be passed along. Those are kind of big transportation for private pay which now we're referring to bio neighbors at Oregon. We had not adjusted for last 200 to 210. I do want to point out that we also realize our website, the transportation website and information for sign up will be coming up soon, but we also internally took a look and trying to make things a little while. >> Yeah, had to refresh it a bit.

037>> Okay, that's good. Any questions on that? I don't question just for you who watch is um the nutrition fees discussion about those at our last board meeting. So if you're curious about that I would recommend perusing um that very fun meeting um for your listening pleasure um because we kind of reviewed and talked through what those were and where those came from. So, just a call for those. Don't know if we need to review it, but just we didn't have a concerted conversation about it. >> Yeah, that's a great point. >> I appreciate you. I kind of glossed over that one >> because we Yeah, because we had already talked about it. Yep. No, that's good. That's a good reminder which as part of that conversation the other thing to remember is that families

038who qualify for free and reduced lunch right this doesn't impact and this most of the fees >> also don't or there is support set up for that so >> yeah okay >> yeah that's one of the that's very nice >> and I I think one other thing I would comment on is the equity council collective has talked about how to make sure that's more transparent to families are in um contact. So, if you have questions and you're watching this, if you think you um may need help, even if you think and you don't know if you qualify, ask. Um there are staff here who can help you figure that out and help where it's needed. So, don't don't hesitate to ask. Okay. All right. Anything else? If not, I would entertain a motion. >> I

039move to approve the 2026 27P schedule as recommended by administration. >> I'll second. All right. Um, any further discussion? >> All right. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> All right. Hearing none, motion carries. 50. Um, okay. And then this one is going to be kind of our um meteor discussion I think tonight, but um action on the support staff and districtwide support staff wage schedules. >> Yeah. >> Well, I'll try to summarize without going through the 20 or so slides that were sent you last week, >> but um in February of this year, we uh our sports staff compensation was by a third party. Our history on our support staff compared with certified staff is a little bit different. Since 2004, it's been managed and periodically

040refreshed by a third party consult that being Carlson Deton which is now Ctingham Butler. Um it's the same firm that we partnered with for staff. The support staff structure was last comprehensively updated for market alignment in 2019 and has been reviewed annually since then using neighboring district comparisons and adjustments to classifications as needed. For 2627 school year, we engage with Ctingham Butler to conduct a review of our structure and our comparisons and recommendations to the ERC in April final and that was last Thursday. Um on April 30th the ERC met to review the proposed support staff schedule and the work consult was a summary of that work. The scope of the engagement focused on benchmarking key positions within these two pay schedules. Reason I say two staff schedule and we have a district. Comprehensive market

041analysis was using a blend of K12 school district data and cross industry compensation sources to ensure both local comparable and competitive markets were measured. The targeted peer groups for each structure were uh the following Madison Grove and Sun and that was specifically for our support staff that is our custodians our school nutrition ours is because it's very geographic >> uh that and looked at zip codes of our employees where they live for these positions. A lot live right here in town, but we normally do not compare benchmark against school district, but in this case, we have to draw and competing for that same pool. >> Um, for our districtwide support staff, which is several positions, but usually don't have more than one employee in that group. Um, you have to get into looking at DeForest,

042Middleton, Oregon similar to our teachers. These are positions that our people travel for to work in. And so we need a larger footprint to evaluate those positions. In addition to the pure districts uh other cross industry market data from the bureau of legal statistics comp data benchmark pro economic research institute Mercer pay factors and TRC public sector database is used. Mark analysis included 15 benchmark positions across the two pay schedules. Overall findings indicated current pay structure midpoints are generally aligned with the external labor market with an aggregate market index of 97% when comparing current midpoints to the market median. That's good news. That means the structure we use having us reviewed every so often and then trying to keep up with our own market analysis. We didn't have a lot of need for change. Um

043The overall market alignment is sound. Consultant identified special education assistant positions as area requiring additional market adjustments, competitive pressure, market movement, and continued staffing challenges cause this position to be flagged as needing additional compensation, >> which that's I mean we've seen that just in turnover rates for that >> for that group. >> This has been a much more successful year because that group had a larger almost by triple percent. So this year's hiring retention has been better. >> That's great. >> Uh the overall plans that are here before you this evening will have a 3.4% change to the schedule which means each point on those steps will increase. And then there's additional step for our support staff. >> Well, they recommended the option one and option two and have we made >> it the great

044point for special education the discussion at the ERC was to go with the recommended recommendation from the consult which is option two which is the smoothest thing for us to do. So >> in addition to the 3.4% support an additional 1.75%. >> Okay. >> And we have it as you say every three years that you kind of go through this kind of a >> um probably about every five to seven years. >> Okay. Okay. However, if we start to see lacking market availability, we also have jump. >> Yeah. Okay. >> I mean, you the the business office staff reviews this on an annual basis. But the five to sevenyear thing is when we have Yeah. >> consultants come in and like look at the overall structure. >> I mean, this is essentially what we just

045did with the >> certified staff. Yeah. >> Right. I mean I know >> except for the first 1992 they have a new structure >> right so >> it's in line with other school districts I'll try >> is there something strange about every 34 years having the salary schedule >> 34 I don't know >> it turns out that's what it is >> maybe a little sooner than that. Huh, >> that was sarcastic. Sorry. >> Yep. >> Sometimes Bruce has to identify as sarcasm. >> Not bad for a social studies guy. That's true. >> Not bad. >> So, the structure we have in place. >> Yeah. I kind of hope so because they bought out Carlson and most people are from Carlson. >> Yeah. And then another question I should probably know the answer to the step

046like from step one to step two etc. for the districtwide support staff. Is that purely based on longevity or do we also filter in additional No, thanks Jeff. >> Yeah, thank you for that. Is there any other discussion or questions about it? All right, then I would entertain a motion. >> I will make that motion just to break things up. And Yanni, I want you to second it, please. >> Only if someone's interested in it. >> No, but you got to read it. >> Sure. You gonna read it? >> Yeah, I have to read it. I understand. >> All right. Um, yes. I move to approve the 2026 27 support staff and districtwide support staff schedules as recommended by administration. >> I'll second that motion. All right, she's on the books. All right. Any further

047discussion? Okay. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. Any opposed? All right. Motion carries. 5 Z. Um, okay. >> We'll get some communication out to the support staff by Wednesday. >> Okay, great. >> Well, some and because they talked about it at the employee relations committee or IK, >> there's a little bit of background already shared. So, okay, great. All right. So, then our next action item is um recommended WEVA DCA Insight School of Wisconsin um student transfers to resident districts due to lack of engagement. Any comments or discussion? The list is getting shorter. Granted, it's the end of the year, but you're getting close to the end of the year. >> Yeah, >> it's true. I'll take it as a win. I will second. All right. Any further discussion? All

048those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Right. Motion carries 5. Normally, that's where we end our meeting, but tonight we are um 8:00, guys. >> I know it's not even 8 o'clock. >> We're not done yet. >> We have efficiency is our friend friends. >> We're at the organizational part of our meeting. So, um I as board president will be sering serving as the presiding officer. Um and so I would entertain I got to make sure um I do this right here. a motion to um begin I guess. Let's see here. Hold on. Let me back up. >> No, I think that's right. >> Yeah. To begin the process of election of officers. Um as a reminder, all the terms for officers are one year. Um and then

049what we've done in the past is someone nominates someone for one of the officer positions. Um and then beginning with president and then vice president, clerk, treasure. Um and then we'll vote and go on from there. Okay. So, um just check this out here. >> I will start by nominating current board president Megan Fesler. >> I will second. Okay, let's see. I got to write all these down here. >> Yes. >> Okay. Thank you for that. Um I will accept the nomination. >> We have just for the public's um knowledge, we kind of we have an organizing document where people submit their skills and interests and um and what positions they might be interested in both for officers and um for committee assignments. And so there's some um we come into this meeting with a

050little bit more information than it seems like that because we don't end up talking about it a lot. Yeah. So >> um >> so just for just so you know. Um >> all right. So um then I guess let's um all those in I think we have to vote Angie, right? Yeah. Okay. >> Sorry. Um are you sure you still want me to be president? I thought about it. Hold on. >> Talk amongst yourselves. No. >> Um, okay. So, all those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. Any opposed? All right. Motion carries. 5-0. Um, I would look for a nomination for vice president. >> I nominate Meredith Huey for the position of vice president. >> All right. Excellent. All right. Um, any discussion? >> Thank you. >> You accept nominated. Okay, great.

051Um, all those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> Any opposed? All right. Motion carries. 5-0. Election of clerk. I nominate Bruce Fischer for the position of clerk. >> I'll second. >> All right. How do you feel about that, Mr. Fisher? Well, I'm learning on the job and I'm getting better at it, so it probably makes sense. >> Diplomat. >> Well, it's the truth. >> It's true. >> I have learning. >> You can give them the month of August off. >> Yeah, we'll give you give me the month of August. >> That's right. Yep. So, um, all those in favor, please signify by saying I. I. >> Any opposed? All right. Motion carries. 5 and then election of treasurer. >> I nominate for treasure. >> And I'll accept. >> All right. Um, any discussion?

052>> No. >> All right, >> that's good. >> All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. 5. >> Thank you. Look at that. Yeah. Our pleasure. Our pleasure. >> Um, okay. So, then next we go to the and this will have a little bit more discussion, but um, committee and liaison assignments. >> Um, so we'll just go right down this list. Um, and this does not require a vote or motions. So, we'll just decide amongst ourselves. Um, starting with each one. And I believe um I tried to look at the sheet to see what everyone was interested in and I think I think amazingly it all kind of lines up. So um let's start with the um WB delegate. Um that is someone

053who um receives the legislative newsletters um copies of new laws. Um and then um in well this is in November attends a one-day delegate workshop um and represents the um represents the school board essentially at the delegate assembly at the annual convention in January. Um I held this position last year. Craig was alternate. Um, we've typically done like president and vice president for that. So, um, I think I'm the president is the one who typically attends the WSB, you know, convention. So, um, would anyone be opposed if I continue serving that role? >> Nope. >> I think it makes sense. >> No. Okay. Um, is there anyone who's interested in serving as alternate? It doesn't have to be vice president. It could be whatever. I think you would okay you go with that all right

054>> okay so Fesler as in that role and then McCrae as alternate and just so you know Yanni we do last names because there's two M two Megan's three M's and you're adding in an M with the last name so we're just going with all last names because they're all different right now >> don't feel too left out >> yeah right I don't know what's your middle initial. Is it >> W? Sorry, we can turn it upside down. >> M stand. >> All right, we got it. >> Okay, great. Um, next one. Village of McFarland Schoolboard Joint Planning Committee. So, this is the um we with the district and the village entering into a memorandum of understanding. I love that phrase. um to formalize a joint planning planning committee to discuss issues of mutual concern.

055Um they meet, let's see, >> every other month. >> Two to three months. >> Yeah, usually every other month. >> Yeah, every other month. Um and yeah, and that's pretty average. So, um on let's see, Bruce and Meredith Fesler. Wow. >> Bruce Fischer and Meredith Fesler held these positions for 25 years. >> I hadn't seen that. Okay. No, Meredith and I were >> become one person. >> It was It was definitely Meredith. It was not Fesler. That is I love it. That is like the best typo that could have happened. So, um, and then Craig was alternate. So, we'll have two representatives and then an alternate. And if I'm reading this right, Fischer and Huey were also still interested for 2627. Um, is that still accurate? >> Yes, I it's it's one thing I really

056do enjoy and I think having been in this district and in this community as long as I have, I think I think it's good. I think that helps. >> So, >> yeah, it's been a really important I think committee and collaboration. So, >> well, I think they're all important, but one that I guess that >> well one that didn't exist for as long as some of the others. How about that? >> Yeah, that's true. >> All right. Um Okay. So, you guys are good with that. And then who's interested in alternate? >> I can serve as alternate. >> I think that makes sense. >> Okay. >> All righty. All right. So then the next one is the CISA 2 um annual convention representative. So we do need to appoint appoint a board member um as

057a representative for the convention um which is scheduled for is this June 17th of 2026. >> Correct. >> Okay. At 7 p.m. >> All right. Um >> okay >> because it says What day? >> 20 June 17th. >> I think it is last year's date. Maybe >> 17th. >> Um, so that would be the one thing for sure. And then the board of control meets every third Tuesday at 6:30. Um, and so last year, Meredith served as representative with Chapman as alternate. >> And that controls is something that you like everyone gets together and votes on the board of controls. And so all the regions have like a rotating assignment on who districts have to have someone on the board of control. And so I was not able to participate every other Tuesday. Um and

058so that was our final year of commitment to being on the board of control. >> Okay. So we don't have that additional responsibility. for the next three years. Okay. >> Okay. Got it. So this commit So this commitment >> is really simply just for the annual convention. >> Correct. >> Okay. Which is June 16th at 7 p.m. >> unless you really want and I'm sure they would absolutely love any active particip >> but thank you for doing that Meredith. It's a lot. That's a big commitment >> and is and you're still interested in doing that. >> And I'll I can be the alternate again. Okay. >> All right. >> That's another good >> Okay. Excellent. Okay. Then we've got the Business and Education Partnership Council. Um I don't know. Do you want to talk about

059M? So, the business and education partnership council um meets three or four times a year and they go over um you know things going on with DECA, things going on um with trades and technology like Skills USA and then uh we hear from the Chamber of Commerce. We have some other um local business owners that are involved and it's really just uh a collaborative committee on how to bring business and education together. >> Yes. >> Just like the name says. >> Yes. >> Um you know, my background is in marketing and so I really like it and that sort of thing. Um I've been doing it for two years now. >> Um you know, I went to TECA. I've been a TEA judge. So, um if someone else wants to try it. You're more than

060welcome to. Otherwise, I am more than happy to keep hanging out with Penny Thompson, the Deca kids, and the Skills USA peeps. >> Yeah, >> that's true. >> Megan, I think you do a really good job. >> So, >> what are um when do they usually meet? Is it >> It's It's normally like Thursday during the day. >> Okay. >> And it's so cute because they, you know, they bring coffee and, you know, pastry. It is. And it's I personally love it when all the students to present because I mean it's it's literally like a deca training for them. >> Uh and so like they're so polished and you know they they just do such a great job. >> That's great. >> I love to watch students present. It's it's because you know that's totally

061my wheelhouse. So >> I will keep on going with it if you all want me to. Okay. >> And Yanni, you had expressed interest in it. So you want to be alternate then? >> Okay. All right. Amazing. All right. ERC, Employee Relations Committee. Um, this it's I'll just read what it says here, but it serves as a means of representing McFarland School District professional and support staff, certified and support staff regarding concerns, suggestions, and the overall satisfaction of the work environment. Um, the purpose is to allow representatives from each school within the district the opportunity to listen, respond, and make recommendations, act as a voice on behalf of employees when meeting and conferring with the board and administration. Um, there are some dates listed here and Meredith and Megan both served as representatives and then

062I was the alternate. So, this would be one where we have two representatives and um, one alternate. Um, and they do typically meet what like is it like 3:45 >> or to five. And I will say, um, I remember when I first started, >> I think you were on the ERC committee and you were like, you know, it's really good for the first your first year to be on it. >> Um, so I've been on it for the last two years. So, Yanni, like if if you want to step into it, I can remove myself. If Meredith, you want to keep going with it or >> All right. >> Yeah. And they always have really good candy >> at the meetings. Like it is like Halloween >> for every ERC meeting >> just throwing that

063out there. >> That's true. >> So what are we going with? >> Well, and you had said in your preference that you would prefer committees that were in the evenings. >> Yeah. >> All right. So is this something that you would be interested in then? >> Okay. All right. So Chapman and Huey, you would still want to be the reps. Okay. >> Unless you wanted to >> I don't there's a part of me thinks it isn't, you know, with with my son teaching, I that's when I feel kind of uncomfortable. Okay. >> I mean, I did it the first year and I agree with what you >> ladies have just said that it it's a good way to kind of, you know, open your eyes to what's going on within the school district employees and

064whatnot. But in some ways, I think I' I'd rather not be on it. >> Okay. No, that's understandable. I get that. Yeah. >> Okay. talking about. >> All righty. Then the next one is WEA. Um, so the Wisconsin Virtual Academyy's representative attends the Four Lakes Board of Education virtual meetings at 11:00 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. >> Um, also attend a fall and spring retreat held in Green Bay in December and May. Mr. Fiser was our representative for this year and Craig was alternate. You have anything you want to add to that to that, Bruce? >> No, I mean it's I don't know. It's it I don't mind doing it. Um it's just it's it's just it's interesting for me because philosophically I shouldn't say this, but I'm going to say it.

065It's just philosophically um virtual school is just so strange. Um but I don't mind doing it and I've done it. I did it this past year. Um we just need an alternate I think. >> Okay. >> All right. Um, I would be happy to do it. I wouldn't mind learning more about it, Bruce, but then but that timing is just a little hard for me. >> Yeah. And and I can understand that. I mean, I think there's something to be said. It's good to have other people be exposed to it because let's face it, this the WEVA is such an important partner >> in some ways, you know, to the finances of our school that that we need to do everything we can >> to uh that will be >> Yeah, I think because it

066I mean they Yeah, that's the next one, right? >> Yep. >> Yeah. No, that's good. That's good. Okay. Um, >> how many alternates do we need? >> Just one. >> Yeah, just one. >> Did you want to be a second alternate? >> Like if for some reason it doesn't work. I don't know Bruce how you feel because I agree with you like it's a good learning opportunity, but >> is there contin between meetings? Like is it I attended one meeting and then I for sure I mean clearly you find it helpful to know some history but is it a meeting where you feel like if someone came in as >> well but we're non voting we're non voting members. So, so we I sit there and you know, I listen to what they're talking about

067>> and and you know, I think I'm not the best notetaker, but you know, when I when I see uh or hear things about, you know, how they're enrollment is up and they're uh um the amount of money that they're making is going up. It's interesting. I mean, it's just it's it's kind of a fascinating world. And they've been having um like it isn't every month, I believe, but it's every couple months they'll have a a meeting where you'll uh again it's all virtual and you'll be meeting with parents and they'll be talking about problems issues and things they shout outs and whatnot. It's kind of interesting to hear that and those I I would comment for the most part I just sit there and just kind of nod my head and go through it.

068I mean because I am truly I mean we're just we're just there as kind of overseeing it. That's about it. >> So if we need a second alternative I mean if you guys end up not being able to >> Okay. >> Sure. I think that >> I mean it also kind of sounds like what >> if I'm reading between lines that maybe what you're suggesting is that >> you could rotate meetings like if you're feeling like you're >> Yeah, it >> not wanting to attend all of them. >> No, I think it'll be fine. I know. Uh >> I just always felt like Tom did such an amazing job and I was going >> trying to feel his shoes in this. >> Yeah, >> tiny feet I have. >> Well, I think and I think

069he was particularly interested in it too. So it's >> Yeah. >> So I think he I think you both can serve as representatives as it as you see fit. >> So okay. All right. >> So should we put down as a second alternate? >> No. I think we'll >> I think I'll be the representative and then we can have two alternates. Either Yanni >> or Mary. >> Yeah. >> I think it also makes sense that especially because we know it's in the middle of the day. >> It's 11 o'clock >> and that's hard. And that for me is that's easy. That that is not a problem. So I can always pretty much be guaranteed I have that time. >> Great. Thank you. >> Okay. And then um the next one is legislative liaison. >> You're

070right. >> Sorry. Um so then as Yanni alluded to the fiveyear the WEA um five-year review representatives um so they meet to review the partnership with WEA in consideration of the 2028 2030 to through 2033 contract. Craig and Bruce served as representatives for the last review period. >> Can you get more into what's all involved with that? >> Yeah, I don't know much about it quite honestly. It doesn't happen very often. Probably >> perunctery I think. I mean I don't think it's going to be >> a little bit. I mean you're going to be pretty heavy 28. >> Yeah. >> That's right. >> Contract. So this would be the first year of that five year would be 28 29. >> Yes. I don't think >> so 27 28 would probably be the heavy year. I

071don't know if they'll start up and have discussions during the 26 27 school year but they might start to talk about that at the meetings. >> Okay. >> So they haven't met >> very often. >> This has not met as far as I'm Okay. >> Pretty like that year before. >> Okay. All right. >> Okay. Um, >> so what you're saying is likely >> and then it's going to get heavy. >> Okay. >> And are those meetings typically >> say what >> I think that spring would fall. Oh, thank you. >> So, light until maybe next spring. Okay. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Thank you. That's good to know. the plan and whether or not >> So then does it make sense to have that be the same as the WEA reps or does that not

072really matter? >> I would argue in some ways it might be good to have board president involved in that. >> I don't know. I mean I just >> Yeah, that's fair. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I mean I could be your alternate or something like that. >> Should we do that? >> Yeah. >> Two. >> Oh, two representatives. >> Two representatives. Okay. Well, I could do that. >> Then you and I. >> Yes. >> Bruce. >> Yes. >> And then um and then Yanni or Yanni, do you want to as as the first alternate? >> There is. There isn't any. It is. It's just too >> This is one we have not met. I mean, I said this. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. All right. So the the Fs are the representatives for that.

073>> Y >> All right. >> Exactly. >> The time frame of when you just start, >> right? Which is I mean that's good because it'll be Yeah. Okay. Um All right. So then the next one is legislative liaison and I believe >> you better do it. >> Chapman >> and you better do it. supremely interested as appropriate. >> I might have a special skill set appropriate for this >> position. >> Wheelhouse. >> That sounds great. >> No. >> Mama loves me some politics. >> Alrighty. So then the last one is the Greater Dayne County School District Governance Consortium Representatives. We've talked a little bit about that in the last few meetings, but this is a basically a a group of Dane County school um school members, school district members. And it's the administrators, board members

074and um you know other executive um members of staff um who meet and basically share concerns, share you know just working together basically for public education is what that is. Um Chapman and Huey served as representatives last year. I think I was an alternate. >> I thought you were. Um, so and it looked like based on the interest Huey and McCrae are interested in serving on that this year. Is that accurate? And those are typically in the evening. So, >> um, I always liked them. >> They always serve food. Yes. >> And you always get to listen to my dad talk. >> Well, not always. I don't know. I mean, >> there's not there. >> Well, that's okay. Maybe that's why I didn't hear him talk last time. >> Yeah. He was uh in Paris

075last time. >> Okay. All right, that's fine. >> Um, is anyone else interested in serving as alternate? Otherwise, I'm happy to. >> All right. All right. So, we've got Huie McCrae as representatives and Fesler as alternate. Okay. Does everyone feel satisfied with their assignments and committee? >> I don't want to be legislative. >> Committ. >> Thanks. >> Are we good? Okay. >> Yeah. >> Yay. >> Um >> Okay, then I think we're all finished. We got them all. Right, Angie? >> Yeah, I got them, too. >> Okay. Um >> then I would entertain a motion to adjourn. that we >> I will second. >> You guys are always so fast I can't write it down. Um any further discussion? I would just like to say that we are so much sooner than Mr. Tarniter's um

076estimate. So that's my further discussion. >> I'm just saying >> We did miss his report. We definitely missed Mr. Charizer being here >> sometimes. I did. >> I know. I know. >> Right. >> Go to prom. >> Yes. >> Right. >> That's a good point. That's true. Be safe. Have fun. >> Enjoy. Enjoy. >> All right. >> Right. >> Yeah. Right. Maybe. >> And don't forget John. one. >> That's right. That's right. >> All right. Um, >> do we need to vote on that or >> shall we vote on it? >> I think we shall. >> All right. All those in favor of adjourning, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. 5-0. We are adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
