001[Music] is what brings you out here my kid's going oh yeah we're right now oh very cool so you go by with your mother all the time right next to the uh uh peter okay i got you cool awesome i welcome everybody online just make sure that when you talk you speak up we'll talk more you guys got everything that's in your folder do you have a way to monitor the number of people watching i could look back maybe they'll be like 170 today maybe 9 000. there will be two mats i thought i thought i don't know flags hello [Music] um [Music] you got wheels though i don't say anything else gentlemen all right it is seven o'clock we'll get started in a minute i think aaron ran out to get a play because

002we do the pledge of allegiance at the front of every board game so as soon as he comes with that we will get started oh is [Music] um is absolutely all right thank you for uh embellishing our delay here i'd like to call the regularly scheduled meeting of the board of education for the school district of northbound i'll have to order with a roll call vote please chisholm here hack here report on public notice please yes public notices uh were mailed to the final act reporter radio station kfaz 107.1 the bull wfdl radio and agenda's proposed at the district office the prospect vp in the municipal building on friday uh july or sorry about that on friday august 20th 2021. and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty

003and justice for god minutes of the last meeting was distributed to the members in the information package does anybody have any comments or corrections to the minutes as they were published um i am going to make a comment about the statement and perspective of current conversations of critical race theory um so item b what i spoke was a little bit out of context so can i just say what i said last time and then i will submit it to you aaron for the minutes absolutely so i i stated children notice and talk about race regardless of whether adults or schools initiate the conversations as a school district i believe it's crucial we give kids contacts language and tools to ask questions and hold conversations about race racism what it is and why it is important

004one way we do this is through telling stories of those who whose experiences are not often told we need to learn about their social realities if children of color are confronted with racism every single day then their white peers are old enough to learn the denial of systemic inequities is real and schools must be part of the solution in addressing it i want all of our children to be critical thinkers it doesn't appear that we are ready for them to be a wise man formerly from the fond du lac community alonzo kelly reminded me that there are 293 ways to make a change for a dollar and not to panic we choose as a community if or we can choose as a community to ban crt but you cannot ban thought i am supportive of

005equitable education for all change is hard but we can do hard things so i will submit that for minutes okay thank you all right so with that addendum to the minutes are there any other corrections or comments in the minutes all right so then with that correction those will stand as corrected uh treasurer's report please paul all right our cash balance on hand as of july 26 was 115 2.95 our receipts through today totaled 134 215.67 and we had some transfers from investments accounts of one million two hundred thousand dollars leaving us the total receipts of one million four hundred forty nine thousand seven hundred thirty eight dollars and sixty two cents our expenditures through today was one million three hundred and ninety eight thousand four hundred and eleven dollars and 88 cents leaving us

006with a cash balance on hand of as of today of 51 so the bills recommended for payment tonight um dated today august 23rd are in the amount of 290 742. we had some pre-approved approved checks of 751 758.31 leaving us with total bills to be approved of 1 million forty two thousand five hundred and one dollars and eight cents okay thank you the financial information was also distributed in the members package to any of the members have any questions on any of the expenses i have one um sorry i think it mostly will probably be answered by dave if i had to guess there's still quite a few expenses still coming through from the trafford presentation building just wondering what's still outstanding on that project like what can we expect to like larger bills to

007still hit from that earth the bulk of that dave yeah um to get cut so that's coming um or that'll be have to be paid yet we're gonna have a little bit more electrical and uh hvac bills and we are going to have the uh the brook the brick casing from with the parking lot that we're probably doing um we have a uh iranian spreadsheet um apparently emery and i are using and [Music] so far their numbers are still going to be really close in line depending on where cd swiss comes in and like timeline wise is that still looking pretty good yeah and yeah the electrician's finished today um the workers are coming back they're opening next monday the 30th parking lot uh when they milled it they had found some soft spots so

008right now i'm working with uh northeast on how we're gonna fix that okay so that the building will be definitely usable uh one other thing i've been waiting on is i think the the check was kind of ready because they wouldn't poke up until they and clarence was the spectrum um i'm not sure maria might know better thank you any other questions taking on what's the board's pleasure on total uh for approval one million forty two thousand five hundred and one dollars and eight cents i'll make a motion to pay the bills second all right motion second further discussion seeing none roll call board please paula yes hack yes goldovsky yes step backer yes chisholm yes uh motion carries clicks report please i have nothing to report no correspondence or donations okay thank you very

009much all right next on the agenda is the citizens input portion of the meeting and first of all i want to thank you all for coming it's been a while since we've had many people that have come to the board meeting so we appreciate your your interest however we do have a policy that that covers speaking at board meetings and so i would like to review that briefly public comment is allowed within our board policy considerations the title of the agenda item indicates that this is for citizens of the school district of north fond du lac anyone who is not a citizen is not recognized the time limit for each speaker is two minutes with a total of 15 minutes for this agenda citizens are pleased to direct their comment to the board members and

010not to staff for other participants citizens input is an opportunity for you to address the board for items that are of concern however with the open meeting law requirements we are not allowed to discuss and take action on those but we do want to accept your comments and what your what your concerns are there is no um new business items uh that address what i'm assuming everyone is here to support or to to discuss and that is the concerns for health and cobit um and so we will we will listen to your comments if that's what you intend to speak on if you wish to speak on a different agenda item that is listed under the new business sections we will accommodate your comments during that particular new business item i want to tell you

011that we are always interested in citizens input and but there are some limitations based on our policy on how long we will be discussing it so i would ask that if you indeed intend to address the board that you'd be concise with your comments to uh to allow us the number of people as many as many people as possible to speak during the 15 minutes so with that i will open it up for uh citizens input and if you wish to speak just raise your hand i would ask that you start by introducing yourself your name and what your address is for our records mr chisholm would you like me to use your timing or yes please i'm so happy in the back thank you my name is rob murphy wisconsin um i'll be very

012brief just two quick things uh i'm sure you already are aware of this by presence here just wanted to reiterate remind you that our position has not changed on uh mass and kobe shots and testing we want those remain optional for our children uh and then the other thing is uh the last time i spoke to this board it seemed to me like you didn't have a real good understanding of what critical race theory was but after hearing your comments today i believe you had to have a better understanding of it and i want to make sure that you're aware that we don't want that talk to our children either it is teaching our children to judge each other based on their race because of their skin it's creating the very problem that you think

013you're correcting and simply denying that effect doesn't change the truth and we don't want it thank you thank you sir anyone else push your feet yes ma'am i'm tara mccarthy i live on n7569 gemini i have four kids in the district i have one in high school one middle school and two in elementary last two years however long it's been has been really rough so we know that everybody had been flipped upside down my main concern right now is i don't think that masks vaccine anything should be mandated it doesn't matter to me if somebody wants to come to school with a mask on let them nobody should be picked on for their personal decisions my concern is who decides that somebody that's asymptomatic can come into this building or come to our school you're

014purposely putting all those children in danger some kids can't get the vaccine some kids can't wear a mask same with the adults i feel if you're sick stay home it's very simple it's always been that way it's always been if you're sick stay home rather you feel better and come here when you're 100. i'd rather have to quarantine for five ten days with my family and put a whole classroom out of commission that's not fair to that student to that class or even a whole school building for that because we're not going to be able to social distance or to do all that with everybody coming back so my concern is why is it that vaccinated can come to school asymptomatic but somebody that's not can't when they both can spread it equally okay thank

015you tara and i also want to express my appreciation you are very not hesitant to call to email us and let us know what your thoughts are so and again i appreciate that dialogue and appreciate that input uh anyone else wish to speak yes ma'am uh tracy norris i live on cemetery road in van dyne i have two kids in the district i didn't realize that the last meeting was about crt or i would have been here i'm against it being taught um just to be on the record with that um and also i stand by what i said the last time i was here if you mandate the masks i will pull both my kids out anyone else yes jim price and seven jim price and seven four two one week short drive um

016i think that the math mandate should not be a mandate i think it should be a choice i think that we all have a right to choose what we do with our bodies uh medically and to tell me or my children if they have to wear a mask i don't think it's right i don't think that we should be mandated to have a vaccination i think that that's our choice as well um i also believe that this decision should have been made prior to next week before our school sees our school starts so that us parents have the ability to make that decision whether our kids are going to go to this school or one that doesn't have mandates i think that this should have been voted on quite a long time ago that there

017isn't another vote just before school it would have given us the ability to decide if this was our school district or not i think that that was a mistake and i think you're holding us under the gun a little bit by making it next week we voted on this july 26th but there's another boat next week right no oh this is only important well what would happen is that the court called the vote but this this is going to be fantastic okay anything else surprised i mine is a little not quite masked so i don't know if we want to finish masks mine's more equity and inclusion that's fine this is an open open citizen's comment all right i'll name your name and address yeah i know my name is shannon zupke i live at

018320 mckinley street i'm here in north fond du lac um i'll start with masks you've all heard goods and bads and opinions we would just like to express that we would like mandatory masks at least in k-6 for the students who do not have the ability to get the vaccine at this time whether it be for age restrictions because it's not available or for health reasons moving on the 2018-19 dpi school report card for flc reported that 55.6 of students are economically disadvantaged 19.7 percent are students with disabilities and 12.9 are english learners keep that information while i share an example this example will include my daughter and then i just use susie who's a fictional character our daughter is excited to start the year she's an above average reader does well in math loves

019to help her classmates she has her own bedroom at the desk full of materials you can have all the materials you can imagine she's got a roof over her head a cupboard full of food we're privileged to live a very normal life when she inevitably gets quarantined this year she'll be fine academically we can push her and teach her what she's missed common core math her dad's a teacher she loves school and will work just as hard at home as she does in the classroom now susie is one of the 55 economically disadvantaged students who lives with her dad and two younger siblings she lives in a one-bedroom apartment and doesn't have a computer her dad works so much that most nights susie's home watching her siblings for many of us susie's scenario sounds extreme

020but nfdl's 55 can look similar to susie not every student at nfdl has a mom and a dad at home every night some don't have the internet we have students in our district who have faced more challenges than most of us can imagine what happens when suny susie is quarantined as the plan stands her dad or her will have to do the work at home for the days or weeks she's quarantined last year there were endless resources which included instructional videos and none of that plan shows this will happen this year parents and students expected to figure it out on their own how is this academically helping our students and equitable for nfdl school district families i'm asking you to adjust this plan because it is forgotten about serving all of the students in the

021nfcl school district my son and daughter will be fine academically we'll keep a positive attitude we'll work with them at home we'll support their teachers any way we can that is unless black masks ability to social distance and being reactive sends them to the hospital the school district did an outstanding job last year we made a decision that was inevitably going to upset half the population but it was proactive because of the blended model masks and the other countless mitigation strategies you were successful and that's thanks to your great decisions but also the staff in the school why choose to be reactive this year when we can be proactive let's not let down the students of our district and let the pandemic negatively impact them academically anymore please consider all your students in mandatory lists

022all right thank you shannon and since you obviously read that i'm sorry i'm trying to go really fast could you please send that yes i will all right thank you uh we don't have time mr sato good okay anyone else wish to speak uh and to address the board yes ma'am heather burnett i'm um n9088 lakeshore drive i have a son in high school last year was very hard i had two kids in school the mass mandate was difficult on being quarantined as well and although yes i do have some of those luxuries at home i don't have the luxury to stay home with them either but i trust that they're doing the right thing that the school's doing the right thing i don't want my kids in a mask i think your mouth is

023the dirtiest place on your body and you're breathing that in all the time i am a health care facility and i have to wear one i don't choose to wear one it's our policy but all the reading i've done with the small particles that come out they actually come in they get stuck inside it's a breeding ground for bacteria so i personally do not want my child to have to wear a mask i would like him to have a choice okay thank you heather anyone else yes ma'am my name is julie grossman it's w7105 forest avenue um i'm the mother of howie who's five who's going into kindergarten and allie who is 11 who will be starting at bessie ellen this year i'm here to speak about our concerns as parents about masks just the

024other night our son said to me and this is gonna make me tear up because it is mom we don't have to wear masks i can actually see people's smiles in school and he's fine and just going off of that last year we struggled throughout the whole school year with him having breakouts on his face the entire year i was going to communicate to get medicine to put on his face constantly because he was constantly having breakouts on his face from the mask because he hasn't had him all summer since he hasn't worn the mask i asked that you do not follow other school districts and please only use our district's cold numbers we need to stop living in fear this has been here over a year already i have been told by many teachers

025that they are don't like wearing the mask so they can see the kids smile in the classrooms so i ask that we do not have any masks anyone else we still got probably about seven minutes left okay yes sir hi matt fields unfortunately my address is 240 weiss avenue fond du lac uh because divorce years ago tyson has been in north foundation his whole life his mother was on roman harrison street she is not able to come tonight but i agree with the parents here tonight as well last year we all came all my days witnessed our children sitting at home look on their face of sitting there all day long on that laptop and struggling i know my son i'm sure a lot of other kids brakes struggled hard and a lot of different

026reasons so yes i'm not totally against the mask this should be optional yes if you want your child to wear when you feel safe then that's your option you know i'm a construction worker certain jobs that i'm on to it's coming down to yes having to possibly wear them i had to wear one last year when this first started on a job site they took me in san diego's hospital one day i bought blood vessels in my nose because of a mask and so it's not a reason it's not safe period especially with younger kids my son has asthma so that's so just to confirm uh how many students do you have in the district one just one okay anyone else who's not spoken before just there's a tiny bit of time i am also

027my name is sarah baldwins um i live in fond du lac so i am not part of your district um that's that i'm sorry i'm gonna have to stop you and and um do you have a student in our district i don't okay then i'm sorry though okay because his comments are restricted to um parents who live in the district i'm sorry get a follow-up comment yeah uh just about the um the testing and um uh as far as vaccinated versus unvaccinated the vaccinated are now getting covered we know this so i don't think it's fair to discriminate between vaccinated and unvaccinated staff and kids okay all right thank you for your comments anyone else nice call all right again i thank you for uh for coming and appearing tonight at the meeting um and

028um and for your interests um we've not had many people for quite a long time so it's good to have the support of the community here and and to watch what's going on all right so i'll declare the citizens input portion of the meeting closed at 7 6 7 6. and i would just ask make sure that if you came to sign in so we have a record of all that is there enough room over there you guys need more paper okay thanks all right next on the agenda item ka superintendents report mr stop thank you very much uh first off welcome to our new space i didn't know about having this new space would bring out so many people to kind of check out our new district meeting room so welcome everybody um i'll

029be brief as we go through this we have a lot of exciting things going on we've kind of talked about what's been happening as we've been evolving through colbert the school year um and just we're really excited today we had our staff back we had our in-service breakfast it was awesome i'm a little hoarse now because i was talking quite loudly they told me not to use a microphone but it was awesome to have people back see people uh we'll talk bridget will have some comments coming up but she won our draft award as a very caring person so we're really excited about that um so first off really quick we've had the same four or three goals that we've had for years and really those are like our priorities that are the top things

030and they are create a happy culture for all maximize student learning literacy for all promote high quality instruction program when we say happy we mean a purposeful meaningful engaging culture and then what we want to do is put as we talked as a leadership team the district we want to put support the medical emotional physical and social health of all which from what i'm hearing from our constituents that we have here and overall that's that's a huge goal now since we know there's so many things that are impacting kids lives that just start reading and math so just wanted to share that and get any comments or input from you guys really just add in that last goal and it's going to be the first time we have a change in our goals in about

031a decade all right that's cool then i'll just stick it right on there and it'll be another thing that helps us drive we've been doing a lot of things with their social emotional learning um as we looked at we had heard earlier about kids that health difficulties at home um that might not have the resources and things that we're doing in schools we have our e3 academy we have a lot of things that we really utilize to help our students excellent all right so next uh though colbin welcome back um just right now um i just want to just share the plan that we have and i want to thank uh i've talked and communicated and bridget we'll have you make some comments also um and then any questions that you guys have of me

032or any of the staff uh with dave also or any principals um so working also with our uh i texted this morning so campbellsport uh laconia roosevelt brandon uh waupun lamyra mayville saint mary springs and just kind of got a feeling for where they're at our plans are all very similar we have we have recommendations from the county health department that are on different tiers the tier that we're at with our recommendations from for our welcome back plan are very similar we've heard different nuances about testing and about vaccinating there's just some things in there that i think makes sense that people might disagree with uh but we're also it's looking at making mass highly recommended if people aren't vaccinated but also they they're not required so talking with my other colleagues right now they

033there really is uh final x having a meeting tonight and i talked to dr flay um i don't know if they're gonna be changing course but uh they said that they'll be addressing it tonight and all the other colleagues right now are really looking at that local data and what's happening in our schools and um as we look at we did have an uptick a little bit there was in our school district there was five students that were under in the last two weeks or five people the age zero to 19. we don't know if they're students they could go somewhere else they could be up enrollment in our school district which is you know the health the the muse of el dorado um friendship town of fond du lac village of north fond du

034lac and lamar teen so we had a little bit of an uptick we also that we had some staff that did end up get that that are also looking at quarantine and isolation um we know that people even if they are vaccinated will still probably get that's just like the flu people will get it but if that vaccination really lowers the impact that those uh that those impact that those symptoms have so overall looking at where we're sitting right now specifically also with um with what dave and his crew does with cleaning our investment in hvac um we're at bridget chill i'd like her to address some things too um i feel comfortable with where we're at that doesn't mean if we have one thing we want is our kids in school that's the bottom

035line whatever we can do to stay open um and if that means that something happens and you know when we come back to school next wednesday and all of a sudden we have you know a lot of people going out we don't have staff because there's a spread of colvin or students we're gonna have to i definitely call you to revisit this um so you know just right now i think we're in a good situation working with the health department looking at our numbers working with our team we know that there's agreement there's disagreement what we all agree on is we want our kids in school and healthy that's for sure so um i guess just at this time i'll turn it over to bridget and bridgette if you have some comments just make sure

036you turn up and once again congratulations on the giraffe today well deserved and for those of you who don't know what the draft award is um the school district in the fall and in the winter gives a big giraffe big stuffed animal and the giraffe represents uh somebody who leads with their actions because giraffes can't talk or so we have a draft winner actually right in their fans right there right in the crowd too they lead with their actions they can see the big picture giraffes have 25 pound hearts they're about two foot long about 170 pulse rate because of all the blood that they have to pump through so what's that most it's a caring person that stands out and does amazing things and this lady nurse bridget um i've spent more time on

037the weekend talking to her than she probably has with her family over the past year and she's always on the front line and very thoughtful and here to advocate for kids so first off congratulations bridgette on the uh draft award and um go ahead and just make a couple statements of where we're at and some of your thoughts and then we'll open it up to the board with comments thank you i appreciate the the um recognition it was really special to be able to um accept that award today so thank you um as for kobit i did send out some information on friday in regards to optional public testing we will be offering that once again this year it's a little bit different we're working with dhs they're providing the test kits as well as

038they've kind of outsourced vendors throughout the state um so our region has a particular vendor that we're going to be working with i have not received any coded tests yet um i think it's it's a rollout plan um so they were trying to get cuts out to those schools that were starting earlier than us um so i'm hoping that we can get some tests um for the start of the school year but it's just time will tell um so i worked on that um and so we'll be ready to roll with that as soon as we get those tests in place um we will need to have a written um permission form filled out and submitted in order for us to test this year last year we were allowed to take just a verbal okay

039on the phone and that way if the kid was at school we would quick test them and then the parent would come and pick them up and we would need to have them sign that written permission but this this year will be a little different i have a new school nurse that's starting over at friendship learning center so i'm going to be really busy with training nicole garcia who is added to our staff so i'm really excited to be working with nicole and then we have emily over at the high school i know i've reached out to all of you on friday in regards to masking i've been very closely monitoring koben in the community as well as i'm sure all of you have that are in that room um and i am concerned with

040the numbers that we're seeing um locally we're in the very high range for northbound electric school district right now based on numbers in the community so my recommendation would be to temporarily start with masks only because we have a population that can't protect themselves especially as elementary kids that are not able to be vaccinated they don't have that option so my recommendation would be to temporarily start with face masks and then lift that recommendation once the numbers go trending down in our field but of course that's not my decision that we leave that up to you board all right does anybody have any questions number two richard you alluded to a little bit in an email to us um other districts throughout the country that started their school year the same way we're about to

041start we're you know masking's optional vaccination rates hovering around you know 49 48 for the local community what did those districts see their first year i mean were the kids in school every day or was it just a cascade of kids being sent home you mean for the start of this school year yeah so for the last month you know several hundred school districts have been in session but like how how is that played out across the country so you can um there is the copic tracker uh from the cdc that kind of gives that information down south they are getting hit a lot harder um and earlier with that delta variant we were just starting to see delta in our community in the last few weeks they've been dealing with it a little longer

042than us when you look at the data from like alabama the carolinas florida texas down south they opened up their school with no masks no quarantines just monitoring for symptoms they did see a dramatic rise with cases there was that new study that um i believe it was north carolina and there was another school i can look it up in a minute but they um they did a study and it said in a 500 student school an additional 70 of elementary school students may be infected with covent within three months without masks and forty percent of elementary school students may be infected within three months with masks so when you look at that they'll show that masking would benefit in the long run i'm not worried about the kids that don't have any underlying health

043conditions we have quite a few students in each of our schools with underlying health conditions they can't protect themselves we didn't have really any transmission of cobit last year when we wore masks except for in a special ed classroom where the mask was not worn because the student is not able to wear a mask and we so there was spread within that classroom for the unmasked classroom so when you look at those numbers that whole school year and we didn't really have any transmission except for one classroom with no use of masks for the student that was affected so to me i feel like when you look at that big picture masks must be doing something i know that there's a lot of you know information out there and that you did share some information

044where masks don't benefit at all and if we have everyone wearing masks then obviously there's many layers of protection in there between those droplets being spread from one person to another okay so um i have i have a few questions for you so the testing pcr testing is that what we would get and be doing is it true that that you know of that pcr testing cannot tell the difference between influenza and covalent is that true it can yes and it can tell that we're starting with will not detect influenza it is uh only detecting copen however um that actually i asked that question for dhs because that would be something they said that they are looking into possibly offering later in the year when it is that typical flu season that it would be

045a two in one uh test so they would test for both covet and for influenza but at this point our pcr test will only be to diagnose codec i would love to see that information bridget because i have never seen that in all the studies that i have looked at so i would really appreciate that if you could give that to me uh i can reach out to my vendor to see if they what are you looking for nikki i'm so if we're doing the testing in schools or anywhere for that matter pcr testing is the most inaccurate testing out there and we're going to say that all of the testing is positive per the pcr for covid when that is in my studies has shown that that is not true you cannot differentiate the

046difference between covalent influenza so second is the spreading of covid right vaccine versus unvaccinated so vaccinations do not stop the spreading that's not what they're for they were as i believe mr sadoff had stated they are to decrease signs and symptoms if you get them if you get covered so vaccinated people are spreading cova the same as unvaccinated people are there's no difference in that and when it comes to our elementary kids being masked so you're saying that they are the most vulnerable because they can't get vaccinated they are the most unvulnerable people when when you're looking at age groups and there's so many studies out there why they should not be masked that i i mean i i listed i i don't even know how many in my documents that i sent so the

047delta variant there's going to be tons of variants out there and actually if you read the studies again all of the variants are being pushed higher and higher because of people that are being vaccinated and that is just that's out there in the research too um the good thing about variants is that they are probably more spreadable they people can get it faster but they are much weaker in rally i guess is how you would say it um i think that that is um all that i have so far thank you bridget i had information the antigen testing is very unreliable and that's why we're not even doing antigen testing because if you do an antigen test and it comes back positive or negative they want you to follow up with the pcr test which

048is more accurate because it's lab tested it's not just a 15 minute instant reading test so that's why i made the decision to go with the pcr test versus antigen test because either way you're going to have to follow up with pcr typically so but i will i will look into that information i will ask my vendor about that so what is the pcr testing then i'm sorry what is the pcr test what is it testing if it's not testing antigen antibody i don't know okay i'm just i'm just curious i don't mean to put you on the spot i apologize i don't want to do that that's okay i know that the t cell is done they have to culture it and so they're looking for um the coded um cells being the test

049i would imagine but it's lab generated and so it's not something that it's a plus or minus you know as like writers and tests with those 15-minute results bridgette um the information you sent to us had a link to the symposium that i found pretty informative and i watched probably about an hour and a half of it last evening and one of the things i think that speaks to the mitigation and why we're set up probably better than most districts is is the big impact of indoor air quality that has on safety in school and i i did get a chance to talk to dave man this morning about some of the things that i've learned and um you know dave i don't want to put you on the spot but if you could just

050go over what we have here in the buildings with especially the new buildings and that stuff and filters and things like that so what we did back in the beginning of coleman was i started dealing with q and h controls and then doing some reading on my own i bought to um ultraviolet i had a regulation um that we got to our universe and to our air handlers um we have done that throughout our district uh short of the trucker building because we haven't got to that point yet and talking with with tim today and after you and i taxi um he feels confident and as well as i do with that harder quality is better than it ever has been or never could be you know sort of gonna taking billions of dollars in

051all the equipment you know um we also are going to continue our um our white program where each classroom has a website um is partially the reason for that so you know we continue what we are doing last year i think we're going in shape and then i think you said with the newer equipment um hvac equipment the refresh rate would bring in outdoor air is as good as it can be yup you know we maxed uh we maxed our rotated air intake to the max volume last year we've kept that up um that does hurt us a little bit on eating and cooling costs but you know there's no cost that we can't put that into the factory the safety of everybody is the most important thing all right thank you and just listen

052i want to reiterate um our plan isn't perfect that we have but it takes into consideration and although it might be a little more reactive as we look forward i think one of the main goals of what we have taken is you know to once again i think i heard it earlier if your kid's six day old that's number one and that's the way we're gonna keep everything going is if you have sick children or you're sick or whatever stay home figure it out take the time don't jeopardize shutting down schools shutting down programs just be smart if we can do that and we're all behind that and we work hard it's going to help out also a lot of what we see here is going to help with just sickness in general too throughout

053the schools um our plan also is to try to find out where that is to mitigate spread that's what we're trying to do we're never going to stop the spread but if we could slow it so we can have more kids at school and we don't have as many kids out or staff the other big thing is staff although we have ninety percent about vaccinated we do know that's that people can get coped again and we know if they get cold again there's still isolation and things like that so we want to make sure we can keep our schools open and if we're not going to be having mandatory mass and if the mass are are optional we want to do everything we can to find where those spreads may be and tell you to

054isolate that so it doesn't continue to go so i think based on what we have done and dave also if you walk around we have bottle fillers we are now renting if you go throughout the high school middle school over at friendship we already have those in but there's battlefield so pretty much uh bubblers are out and this is going to help huge too with kids drinking more water i think also so not only that but we have victory sprayers hvac um you know bass are still it's not that mess people can't wear them and we will be very vigilant on if anybody we already have rules about harassment and bullying and if anything happens in kids or adults or whatever it could be that would make comments about that we have already policies a

055place to stop that or at least address that so um i think what bridget and i i still respect bridgette what she's saying she's she's going to tell you what she thinks and she very much operates on a very um low tolerance to spreading illness and i appreciate that we have great conversations so we also have our other colleagues around here um other schools and what's going on we know wla was mask optional along with rosedale brandon towards the end of last year and things seemed to go pretty good there we also go over the summer we were last optional for summer school um so it's a whole different world right now but i think the comments that i heard today i know and from what the questions the bourne are asking i think what

056i think we have a really good happy medium with trying to mitigate spread relying on people relying on our parents relying on our kids to make good decisions relying on our staff to do with that also and then have things in place where maybe people don't agree with testing or they don't agree with maybe vaccinations but at least we have something so that we can help to slow or mitigate that spread to keep schools open and i think that's what we have here and just like anything we went virtual within three days i don't know what's going to happen with the delta the lambda the cap up variance i don't know what's going to happen but what we do i think is we have a really good alert system um we have a really good

057way of monitoring things and i think this plan allows for that the diligence that bridgette and i think nicole i know emily knows how to contact chase and talk and work through those things so um i think overall what we have isn't perfect but i think when we look at our situation in our community what are we doing and how are we working and what's going on with um with with with colin i think we're in a good spot and i do believe that our kids need us more than ever our theme this year is make their day and our kids when you look at sports you look at clubs you look at all those things you don't talk about equity having opportunities for those kids to be part of something is huge i think

058it's our goal to make the experience at school as healthy as we can in the best way emotionally and socially also and then also be able to be very uh reactive and proactive in some ways to keep us as healthy as we possibly can that's what we really want to do is get our kids back in school and keep them here questions or comments from board members erin because our plan is pretty reactive do we have actual benchmarks or just an idea of them in mind i'm like what percentage of our student body can be out sick before we reevaluate or we've already said that with influence so bridget we've uh we've actually come to that point a couple of times did we when we had the flu season they're working with students out a

059couple years before coped we did have quite a big outbreak of influenza especially in our elementary school but it was more just communication with the families we never had to shut down anything um it was just communicating to families the importance of monitoring for symptoms but i don't think we've ever really shut down anything there was talk about it but it never got to that point um but of course you know we would we're talking with the health department on that i just i'm worried this year because the health department's really not going to tell us really what to do except for if we have a massive outbreak and i just don't want to be so reactive i'd rather be proactive that's my concern is you know contact tracing and and monitoring and you know

060checking in with families it's it takes up a lot of our time and if we even have a couple kids that um come to school contagious end up spreading the delta variant which is extremely um indeed right now i just i i'm worried that it's gonna spread pretty quickly and we're not going to be able to keep up with it so that's nice you know that was my my big concern you know we have a lot of high medical needs students in the district and i'm just more concerned for them their their welfare because this year we're bringing them out into regular classrooms we're allowing we're giving them the education that they are you know they're supposed to have and we want them to be with their peers and interact with them and nobody will

061be wearing masks though and if they wear a mask it's not really protecting them it's just protecting others around them so i then i appreciate it and one thing to all say to bridget um when we look at how we're looking at metrics i think last year fell into um the burning rate what's that mean and how's that look and i think really it's going to be driven how can can we keep our schools open safe i don't know if there's a certain number a lot of it's going to have to do with staff too the main reason we shut down last year was because we didn't have enough staff because of quarantine and isolation so i think you know we want to have safety we see some things we'll be looking and working with

062other schools we're not in a vacuum here i mean what happens in northbound lake too i think we'll see it's another and fond du lac in different areas so i don't think there's a certain amount but when it gets to a point where we can't if it gets to a point where we just have too much illness and we have too much quarantine we don't have staff in order to do it safely then we're definitely going to have to look at it but i don't know what that's like and it might not come to fruition so there's no like like i know that there's different school districts that have specific if it gets to this rate and we tried that last year remember with burden rates and came back and we ended up going back

063to more when you look at the data too just like we saw that there was five student or five school age students from zero to 19 that had called it in last two weeks we don't even know if they're our students they just live in these different areas so um you know we do i think the biggest thing is what do we do here our school that we're not a target we're not a menards we're not a walmart we we have number one we have families and we have people who say that we're telling them and i think it's his parents doing pledge if you're sick you stay home if you're sick you stay home and then we also have opportunities for people that would like to wear masks are more than welcome to and

064we also have things that are in place for contact tracing and for testing if we have some things that we can do so i think we have a good plan like i appreciate what bridget's saying and she could her or she could be be right about some things and if it does come to that we're going to be ready to do what we need to do in order to do the same things but there is no specific number um it's more about the capacity we have in our schools and when we look at our welcome background we look at a welcome back line it's in district preparedness number four and when we look at that that's going to be you know really big are we preparing can we have our kids in school in a

065safe way and if those things don't happen like if we didn't have the hvac and we didn't have the cleaning stations and we didn't have the white beam stations and we didn't have um you know like a big thing with we know that even people who are that's they can spread we have 90 of our staff who you know pretty much aren't going to get asked sick because they would have gotten sick if they didn't have the backstage which means that we can still be in school sometimes too so there's no making everybody happy but i really think that we have a good plan that that i believe that going forward that i would recommend we move forward with and if something happens big i would be very i will make sure that that gets

066broadcast and we look at doing something different and that could be in the next week or so but i i think right now going into it we'll see what happens we had today we had our old staff together about 100 and 890 of them we ate breakfast and we're all together in the gym we're going to see and of them we had very few masks so we will see quite soon what's going on here and how things are working other comments or questions from the board on this topic but i just once again thank you bridget for all that you're doing and i look forward to continue working with you and you we'll we'll keep i think we're gonna we're gonna start talking a lot more again i think yeah probably thank you thank you

067all right so moving on uh next one seclusion restraint update judy it's your opportunity my opportunity yes it is all right um every year you have to um submit a seclusion restraint report to the board the department of public instruction um so i pulled together our report um for this year and one of the things that um i really like to see is how much our numbers have gone down last year there were two students total in our district um one of the things that we don't want to ever have to do unless it's the last resort is a restraint or seclusion on student um and then a couple people here that help with that so they know that too um we're moving our non-violent crisis intervention turning to a verbal intervention there are still

068some people that are trained within the physical restraints but again last resort we want to do least restrictive last resort for any kind of a seclusionary strength our seclusions um aren't i don't want you to think like we're shoving this kid in a little room or anything like that the exclusions are usually we will if there is something happening within a classroom that is disrupted to that classroom if we cannot remove the student safely then we remove the class and they go somewhere else and that's considered them a seclusion and that's what these were it was removing the class but then that student we want that student to stay in that room until they're calm until they've um come back to a state of regulation and then usually have them do some sort of a

069task too before they go back in the classroom to make sure that you know we know everything is is good and that they can move on with the rest of their day um and a restraint is always used only if um they are harmed themselves or somebody else um and not anything we want to do it's kind of like a bear hug type it's a specific restraint it cannot be you know on the ground they cannot be thrown anything like that so um our numbers in the last two years have gone down by 34 which is fantastic um and you know we also offer um when that's that student is dysregulated will offer common strategies um you can do bottle of water fidgets doing something they want to do just to get them back to

070a regulated state where they can move on with their day and there are there are rules and regulations with all of that with the dpi and parents have to be notified within 24 hours a written report has to be written within three days and given to the parents if they wanted um they're always on record at our school too so um i think that's about it we're doing a lot more i guess of that verbal intervention we have the cps model that we're also doing with a lot of the um staff which is more of a verbal intervention and talking with students giving students kind of a voice and a choice too so they can they can help with that plan that hopefully this won't happen again and can move on but they have a

071voice in that plan like okay this happened today we got in your way what was the difficulty maybe what can we do different next time and that that's something they're giving a obvious voice in because it's their life in their school so and then if we can come to a good resolution that is mutually benefit for everybody so any questions chris do you want to add anything judy did a great job thank you judy and i just want to also thank judy for and jim nelton for leading our cbs training that we had during in-service and they went over verbal de-escalation strategies and i heard very good comments from folks they've had the training moved along well and it was interesting and very helpful judy i have one question about seclusions just because it was

072presented to me by a community member recently and i couldn't answer it and i'm hoping this will better equip me if we uh when we can't remove the student we remove the class because that student was disrupting the class yeah um how is that less disruptive i mean it's still disrupting the class but um then that that student also doesn't have an audience you don't want the dysregulated student to have an audience as well as then if you remove the students their teacher can kind of talk to them a little bit better about what's happening too and they can get back then back into a state where they can usually the students are very good they we have amazing students here they really don't question things when it comes to um some of those other

073things that are happening with with other students they're very good about being supportive and um and you know they will leave there's usually another classroom that teacher will go to or a different area but yeah that does disrupt them yet but it still takes that audience away from the student that is dysregulated and hopefully keeps both the students in the classroom being able to move forward yeah thank you does that answer it yeah it does and i would say just to chris and judy's point that things have changed so dramatically um one thing that's been a huge plus first for how our students interact we haven't really seen it all that much but this building is pretty amazing to keep kids on task if there has to be anywhere that that there's a stuff students

074that are removed it's easier to do than what it was like before um so there are a lot of the small group rooms attached to the bigger rooms and sometimes those are helpful the student will go on there but you know we can't then that that seclusion those couple times was removing the class but yeah i agree the building gives you a lot of different choices to go to they have a great regulation station our outback they're great areas to go to to help students regulate so how long about does a seclusion or like an intervention intervention like that take place so all the students that are coming out of the classroom right how how long a time are they i can't really give you like an exact number but we will try our best

075to get that student regulated and able to move on to a different room usually it's either the regulation station or outback um or just another quiet area to go to maybe more a low intensity room um that the goal is to get the student regulated and out and and doing a preferred task so those students can get back into the classroom um judy can you tell me how many times that happened last spring two so we're taught we were here for ten straight weeks well actually fdlc was longer than that and we had two of those things happen last year yeah um so you know i don't know if i can give you 10 likes each kid is different it depends on how disregarded they are getting what's getting in the way what you can

076do to get them back on track um physical restraints usually less than 15 seconds it's it's amazing when you get kind of that bare head of that restarting the kids kind of relax and then you can let go but um still a traumatic experience obviously but um so i can't really give you i don't know if i can give you a timeline because everybody's different it's okay judy can you tell me is there any just i mean when you do that report is it disaggregated by um disability gender race disability is the only one right now um and and why is that um i don't really know i mean i did give a link to the seclusionary strength dpi update but um i don't know if chris can answer it better i just think that

077there was in the past i don't know how many years ago they were just finding that in some districts and and i think the majority of the districts were more southern states um there's a lot of um visibility strengths a lot of seclusions a lot of on things that they didn't necessarily know were going on and this was to try to help you know bring that out into the open more and get people trained more i think i don't know why the dpi only requires that they don't they don't require us to do it by age yeah so for our school district we we just don't know i mean i'm sure you maybe have an idea yeah i mean we just don't know i mean not reportable at this point maybe yeah do you know

078better than me please answer okay so i just wanted to thank you for right next to me i didn't know if you could see me or not um so we are our emp our allies and mental health and education team we do look at the equity data for all of our um all of our odrs our opposite discipline referrals our seclusion restraint so when we have like we can take those names so we can we don't have to provide that information to dpi but we are definitely looking at that as we're looking at an as a friendship at least as part of our equitable multi-level systems of support because obviously we're looking to make sure that we aren't being disproportionate in terms of any um identifiers and so i don't know i think that's probably

079what you're seeing are you looking at that and we're we're not doing it for the purposes of dpi like judy mentioned but within our equity work within our building yeah and the report i give you as i report to dpi yes the only thing they follow they want us to quantify qualify but we're but the team is looking at it and that's yes our eml team does yeah absolutely yeah thank you carrie joe yeah thank you any other questions all right well at this time we're going to do some updates you're going to notice amantha and mike are there they're actually interviewing for replacing somebody that you see that's up there matt um so we'll get an update we'll start with gary jo our chris i'll start with you with pupil services if you have

080any uh thing that you want to update and then we'll do adam will do your department uh 612 and uh kirk are teaching the district and then we'll go carry joel um and lauren and then we'll see if anybody pops on all right i'm happy to start can you hear me okay yes okay good well we um we've been busy this summer preparing for our new school year we're really excited um it's it's going to be a lot smoother this year because we we know how to move into virtual you have to do something like that the teachers are really excited and they have more of a sense of normal we've had 18 students with ieps transfer in um over summer we still have a few coming in some of the students who have transferred

081in are from ripon milwaukee myra oshkosh wapon and a couple students who are homeschooled and then we have 14 students transfer out with ieps they transferred to texas on black utah rose and dam and plymouth now chris when you say transfer you're saying they moved correct correct and uh we're excited we have four new faces on our special ed team um so i'd like to share those names with you um we have three actual folks who are joining our alternative presentation program at flc um the first is savannah fire eisen she is replacing elena thompson who was moved to across categorical special opposition um savannah is a oriole alumni and she has experience in foster homes and in a rural home we're very excited to have her join us as a brand new teacher and

082she's going to be going through the wright program and she will be working alongside jenna wasco who went through the right program last year so we're going to make a great team and we have two instructional aides that we'll be supporting in that program molly griffs who was a supervisory aide last year at flc and she has a social work effort which is a huge plus and we have kelsey hooper joining us as an instructional aide and she served at the trump relay as an instructional aide last year so that's the flc team and then we have heather meyer joining us at the high school as an instructional aide and heather brings a lot of experience she has worked as a counselor with folks with opiate issues and she also work as a family liaison

083at the badger middle school in west bend so we're really excited to have her play the team as well do you have any questions for me i have a question but i'm not sure who to ask this of so i'm just gonna ask it here okay um and what triggered it is you know kids moving in and out and coming in our district and so on and so forth do we have a handle and i know i always ask this to adam also do we know if well one how many kids in our district would be considered gifted and talented and do we ever have anybody transfer into our schools that are on the gifted and talented radar i guess that's what i would call it that's a really good question nicki and i to

084let adam roten speak to that because as our teacher our director of teaching and learning he works with that program so he has eyes on that but yes we definitely are watching watching that and any more about madame are you on the call if you want to chime in yeah thanks chris um yeah so one of my roles is the gifted and talented coordinator in our district so if you have any of those questions you know uh vicki and i have talked before we've chatted before so a couple parts there so we do some criteria listed in our rti handbook that outlines what we would call accelerate learning um and just the need for students that have learning beyond maybe that uh general curriculum so that's outlined then uh within uh one of our systems

085we make note of that for those students that they have met that criteria um one of the things that you know we don't have a gift in town to teachers so we don't have like a gift in town to program per se but again we want to make sure that teachers in our district understand that hey you have a student here that's shown these measures through multiple assessments and probably is going to need more more learning so when we look at helping students not just helping students that are struggling but also helping and supporting students from the opposite end of that spectrum so the other piece that we do is when we meet with our teams that are talking about uh and creating plans around data we have that question about okay what are we

086gonna do for students that are not uh demonstrating proficiency but then we also ask that question who are the students that are really excelling and what do we what do those students need so we have that question built into our data meetings that uh it purposely has conversation around that and i'm sometimes just awareness for a teacher to know okay yeah i have this student who again the cut scores are pretty significant so they demonstrate over time that they have hit these particular marks um and as far as students transferring in you know i've never seen that i guess as far as um had anyone come to me and say hey this student was gifted in town to another district um and not something that this has been out there but maybe something at the

087billing level that people come across but that hasn't crossed my my plate yet as far as that goes does that make sense to hear that answer that question yeah i'm always you know i ask that almost every year if not a couple times a year so it you know i we do phenomenal with with kids that need help and you know i guess i wish on the opposite end of it too that we would have as many teachers and aides that would help those kids as we do on the opposite end of it i would say that we have we have so many caps students that earn graduate credits so when we look at those opportunities and then the different things besides just the reading and the math opportunities at school so we do have

088a lot of enrichment opportunities also um but no per se like like the gifted and talented you know program that there is yeah and so a couple other pieces okay and grades k2 there isn't like a um there uh i think by law or by police there is no gifted account distinction at that level across our state and the nationals because probably too young at that point to say hey the student is gifted or needs accelerated learning but um and then when you kind of go into like mr stay outside into middle school high school it's a little bit easier to maybe with uh uniqueness of schedules to offer hey an accelerated course or a course that's above so having students that are taking maybe a higher math class um and those sort of things

089so you know at the elementary level we've done things in the past where we've um provided students with you know an extended learning side next curriculum again we thought that was appropriate for the student and put our head stare with the teacher um in that case so um but also with all that said too we want to really be careful we look at when we accelerate students what does that mean are they is you know just that we look at a student that is getting remediation well is it working if we accelerate soon is that working some districts see that they have all these given ap courses or gift and talented courses but then maybe it's going too fast where it's detrimental they then aren't scoring as well on assessments because they're you know sometimes

090skipping content or moving quicker where maybe they're not learning to mastery so you know for right now i know when i look at those numbers middle school high school kids that we've accelerated they still tend to be advanced than on assessments locally at the state level which tells us okay we're doing a pretty good job with that we're not over identifying or putting kids in harm's way would think oh yeah you can do this when maybe it's not what they need so that's no perfect science but those are some other pieces that are becoming but i love the idea it'd be great to have a little army of our gifted talented team and um and right now yeah we just rely on the teachers when those conversations come up and get creative thank you and

091you have anything else you want to add here um not too much it's really brief i mean obviously the school year uh just started today so the last month or so just really planning getting ready for this week so i'm really just excited to meet with the teams formally uh tomorrow and start to talk about some things that will carry us through the year and really for us it's typically or it's overarching gonna be just kind of getting back to basics so getting our teams together having conversations about student data what's working what's not working and creating plans around that some things that we just weren't able to do as um as well during a virtual or hybrid situation that we're excited to get back to that so yeah it's gonna be fun in a

092good year awesome well thank you all right so we'll move up kerry joe and lauren a little just previewing sam and mike welcome we're just going through and giving a preview of the year okay um so first of all i think they've all left i was going to acknowledge tara shannon and julie are any of them there i just wanted to thank them for speaking out on behalf of the students um in our building it's always good to hear from our parents um so the updates that i had to share um were some of the highlights from today's in service with our staff k5 um as of our last count we're up to 622 students at friendship and grade standard five that we have to serve this year and that number is constantly changing um

093but i know that it's typically a topic of interest each year for you guys to know so right now our kindergarten is at 107. our first grade is at 95. our second grade is at 109. our third grade is at 114 our fourth grade is at 100 and our fifth grade is at 97. so again those numbers change periodically um but just to give you an idea of what we're what we were working on for that last count and then team flc just staff that is in our building is currently at 85 faculty members and staff members so we are growing along with our students and just to give you an idea of how that breaks down um it's 29 classroom educators five encore teachers which would be our music aren't in fayette and some

094of those are part time but there's five adults we have seven specially designed instruction teachers which would be our special education and our program support teacher which is judy um we have four specialist teachers which include english language learning bilingual bicultural reading specialist and our math specialist we have three student services adults our school counselor our school psychologist and our school nurse we have three therapy services and our ot our pt inner speech therapy we have 18 paraprofessionals we have our district nurse our school resource officer alternative bayan teacher and our mental health navigator there's eight members of our buildings and grounds team dedicated to friendship our two secretaries and our two administrators and i want to give a shout out to lauren for helping to co-plan this year and getting things going she's again

095been a great partner in this so we're really excited to welcome not only our 622 and counting students and our 85 staff members back um we're hoping to have a great year so i want to i have to chuckle because i just added two more kindergartners during the board meetings i was kind of multitasking and catching up on email so i think we're at 109 now the other things we went through went through a lot of information with our staff today one of the things we revisited is some of the work that we were doing last year and that revolves around our building culture and beliefs i just wanted to share with you again our collective commitment as a staff is friendship we value healthy relationships effective conflict resolution empathic responses and positive intent we

096commit to one another that we will show up curious relational and empathetic and if we are not we will pause if we messed up we will make restitution to repair the relationship so that is again a commitment that we developed together in a shared space last year it's something that we're renewing and working towards and working within for this year and then the other highlight that i wanted to share with you also was um the professional learning preview um that follows the professional development plan that i put together with the support of our academic team um for the upcoming school year so our board our in-service days before the school year starts right now is really focused on our bridges and mathematics learning and then our four in-service days during the school year are focused

097on um the working with the statistics math center again building that math um competency and strengthening that within our teachers and then also working with the cc6 social emotional learning center again we've had a coach that was working with us before as a staff she's going to continue working with us so half the day will be math focused half will be seo and then throughout the school year we use our morning times from 8 to 8 30 to gather for communication and professional learning on mondays this year will be an stl focus so that will be all of our friendship staff coming together and they may be learning about like last year we did a book study renee brown's dare to lead we're going to come back and revisit that we are looking at elena

098aguilar's emotional intelligence um there's also an initiative within fond du lac county called handle with care so if a police officer goes to a student's home um and there is a situation that the district needs to be made aware of the context so it's most likely gonna be sean um hendricks communicating to carrie nix that there was a visit to a student's home and what the teachers and our staff will give is just a simple email with the student's name and hwc or handle with care there's not to be any other details but it's just reminding us to look through a trauma-informed lens when we're interacting with that child so if that child is wearing a hood that day or if they just seem a little off it's again it's acute to us as staff

099members is to remember that um something happened outside of the school day that could be impacting that child and they just need to be handled with care so those types of learning would be happening with our staff on monday mornings and then our tuesday mornings are the academic team they're going to be leading that professional learning so again that's an opportunity for just in time learning for our bridges and mathematics this is new this year um reviewing things related to lucy study reviewing some of our assessment the process of assessing the data entry the review of that data all of those things it gives us the opportunity to work on our standards to review our spoken sequence common formative and summative assessments report cards all those things so all of that work that in the

100past or teachers maybe have had to stay after to do meetings or things like that again we're really mapping out and really trying each year to be more and more mindful of working on the work within the business the work day as much as we can and obviously not all students are present so that eight to eight thirty time in the morning is used um they said monday for sdl tuesday for academics and then thursdays we use those mornings for staff meetings so there's just wanted to share kind of a preview of how we're how we're supporting our teachers to be able to better support our students no all right all right thanks team flc we'll drop over or jump over to tiffany before we get to mike tiffany you want to give a preview

101of the trafford uh wait for the exceptional line and how things are going definitely we are excited to be in our space we've been busy unpacking uh last week we got it on monday so we've been unpacking a lot of last week and then a lot of our in-service time is going to be to set things up and get things ready for our families we did welcome 13 of our new 19 new families came in today for an orientation mentor training so it was great to see those students and welcome them into our space and we can't wait to have everyone there another huge shout out to dave and the team that has helped us with everything that's come with the unpacking as well and getting things moved into our new rooms and we're excited

102to get started any questions all right well thank you tiffany and we're glad to have you as our newest administrator so welcome thanks for all your work and this is a room it's all ready for you for tomorrow since we don't quite have wi-fi there yet we'll get it there soon though thank you we appreciate that all right so at this time we'll turn it over to mike uh just a preview of some information about uh bams thank you aaron and good evening uh school board and those that are whistling and are at the meeting uh bands we did a lot today but we did a lot of foundational work to frame through the school year and what we're doing throughout the course of the year so first of all we introduced our new staff

103uh talked about some departures and some changes in our staffing we did some catching up with celebrations uh i shared some quotes that reflect on the work that we're going to be doing this year we covered some strategies to reacclimate students after they were disrupted up through public 19 for the last 18 months we discussed a new brand's operating norms which i'll cover in a minute our enrollment update we covered we have 320 students which is a little bit down than last year but we have new students coming in daily so we might have more students than last year uh 102 6th graders 99 7th graders and 119 8th graders so 8th grade's pretty large um in terms of uh office updates and information our secretaries uh have uh introduced ways that the the office

104is more streamlined and organized check out our band's school webpage has information for parents staff and students we worked on some professional practice focused areas and we also talked about how our school committees are going to support that so basically in terms of our operating norms we adopted the norms that are present for our cabinet and leadership team meetings in the district of being student focused valuing everyone's time assuming that everyone has positive intent being an active participant being an open and active listener being solutions oriented and not of admiring the problem and being committed to team these operating norms are going to drive us throughout the course of the year in terms of professional practice focus areas we still are going to focus on reviews and learning targets in the classroom uh looking at

105levels of questioning and providing feedback to students developing uh common language revolving literacy and math focusing on our rti uh interventions and our resources working with professional learning communities developing new student support team procedures being a data driven culture continuing to focus on live college career and high school readiness for all students focusing on pbis tier one interventions working on developing professional development opportunities for our staff and that is all that i have we had a really busy day and we're going to be very productive in the next week to set ourselves up for success through this year thank you anybody have any questions of mike all right thanks samantha welcome hi everyone just love the interviews with mike so i apologize i'm thriving to do this um so we also had a pretty productive

106day today um it was really nice to have all of our staff back together we introduced our new staff and definitely had some congratulations some of them were shared earlier today but it was good to have those reminders one of the things that we chose to kind of talk about one of the interview questions that we use is tell us something that will make us never forget who you are and so we had some um fun kind of race breaker conversations with that question um and then part of what we were doing today you're talking foundation piece is really our relationship building so we were able to watch the rita pearson on-time talk video where every child needs a champion um kind of to kick off our year our royal league team met this summer

107and they were able to share the work that they have done and we're going to try um high school's office working with a reward system we are going to try another one with drawings held in the office for our students um and really just some of those you know little reminders to be positive with our kids and to uh to remind them of the good that they are doing and then after oriole presented to the group jim dalton who works with judy and teaches nonviolent crisis intervention he brought in some of the um conversations with trauma informed care and then using the de-escalation um techniques verbally um because obviously we're not going to get into any of the holes or anything so it's just good you know we all know that we all do it

108and it was just good reminders for everyone as far as those uh verbal de-escalations and then that also led to our period so um reminder that something happened and to just be cautious and handle that student with care we also talked about numbers and this is where sorry my members upgrade my driving um but i have to order new lockers so we have zero lockers that are open in the high school um so dave is working to get me 20 lockers um our last pound we have four that have not been uh calculated was 468. um and that does not include our three foreign exchange students that i um will hopefully get me sooner rather than later that i will share with aaron and all of you um and i know that there is another

109new student that enrolled today so that number's getting pretty high and so um from the high school perspective i will be asking uh for us to continue to look at four rooms at the high school um currently i have to have one teacher who uses a physical classroom and then i have three teachers that use uh open classrooms for prep i don't have another note that someone is looking for for a small study group so we're pretty full um so we kind of briefly talked about that and like how we're gonna you know figure this out both words uh we did talk about our our public procedures and um you know shared some thoughts uh so not sure where that will be headed last plea of um that we had are things that we are

110going to accomplish this year we have agreed on our norms um talked about them we are looking at we currently use the learning management system power school and you're hearing that that um we're just not sure how long this system is going to be in play so we are going to take different options this year about making a gradual role to school achieve um or a different learning management system so lots of work throughout the week we have adam coming in to talk to our building we have educlimer we have uh lisa lecklong is coming tomorrow for uh trump to meet season six and she's going to be working on teaming up with us because our goal is for our plc which are department teams for them to continue to be more effective so really

111looking forward to working with her and teaming and lots of things the rest of the week so i hope that sorry that i'm not visually present but um we were able to introduce three for our athletic director position tonight and um was pleased but we just have to kind of you know figure out who is going to be the right fit for us excellent thanks samantha also big shout out to samantha for organizing with uh becky uh and sarah the awards for the years of service so thank you for doing that again this year samantha hey aaron can i jump in with one more update potential partnership with the kiel school district for e-learning and um yes for sure so um so keel is overwhelmed because so many districts are trying to find seats there

112so i did work to continue to work on reaching out to different agencies and the elkhorn school district does have seats available for students with or without ieps and i do have a copy of the intergovernmental agreement and the amounts of what that would cost our district so again if we would have a need for that for a specific student we are able to enter into that agreement as long as seats remain available so again we don't this is different than like when chris purchases these let's say um for an alternative placement this is the seat server available as they're available so in those cases the student would remain a north fond du lac student and again we would keep a portion of the state aid and then they would attend their classes virtually with

113elkhorn staff and teachers educating them doing the grading doing the report cards so again if we have a need for that we are currently able to partner with the elkhorn school district um i did reach out to a family that had expressed interest in the past and they um right now are going around home schooling instead but just know if you're approached by community members wondering if there are options for families at least at the elementary level that is something that definitely send them send them my way i'm happy to walk through that with them and see if you can get them connected if it's necessary thank you kerry joe and that's something that you guys know lfi we have lfi where we are the home school for that and we have uh so that's

114for students that are 18 to 21 that aren't quite ready that have ieps and we've worked with mptc joe marchanda teaches that so what we do is we go into agreements with campbell sport rosendale brandon fond du lac they attend learning for independence we get uh enrollment fee they claim them as a student so then they get some money so it's a win-win situation and this is an option for those those students that want to be virtual and if there's some parents that come in that say i just don't want my kid in school that's something that we do all right thank you carrie joe you're welcome thank you all right um i think that's about it do you guys have any questions of anybody um just to clarify did sam say she has 468

115students at the high school or that's my lockers okay i have at least 460 students um it'll be more than that we steve if i remember correctly that building was built for 460 correct yeah that in a perfect coral that was considered the maximum or you know what we could handle i'm sure you can find lockers and stuff for a while too so yep there's good we'll have to be thinking about some opportunities coming forward so excellent any other questions from the board for the staff how are we situated for uh open staff and faculty positions how many are we currently right now samantha and mike are working on the a.d um dean of students we're still looking for a social worker slash behavioral support specialist slash whatever that is that's from 150 what so

116we're looking at that position as a school calling for position we might be looking at as a school counselor position okay because we've had offered it for social uh for social work so we're looking at it a different way i love how this is it always evolves so at the high school middle school so that's a grant that sam and mike worked on um and that so that's it'll fund for two years um other than that your front office staff at the high school front office staff john levitz there linda's replacement um and then otherwise guys i think that's it right oh yes well heather yeah we're gonna have a music position so i that but we just learned about that on saturday so that's pulsar already general music position at friendship so although we're

117pretty blessed i think we're about as full and mike did a great job with y'all chris with spad um so we're we're doing pretty well okay all right so now i'm gonna turn it over maria do you want to give a little review of where uh what happened with our uh budget with the audit and kind of what we're looking at for we shaved a little off the debt today didn't we um but at the end of july he already came in with their team of three auditors and they did their field work in two and a half days which was awesome um it was a mutually successful artist they were very very pleased at how prepared our team was so who goes to the district office team everybody had a little hand in the

118audience at some point or another um so they were very pleased with the preparation and then you know they're always coming in and asking for more information and everybody was more than willing to get what they needed right away so they they they were very happy um and well we're happy because once they left they seemed to have everything they needed i'm starting now to get calls from puberty um from the lead auditor just to clarify things make sure we're on the same page i got a few journal entries that i did today so they are now working behind the scenes and reviewing everything which is very normal um our first dpi deadline is this friday so we're right on track to be able to report some of our information to be here so this

119is it's it's just it's been night and day um as far as auditing firms go we're really happy with the change and one of the leads is uh former oriole logan krieger oh yeah yeah um so that said it's looking like we're gonna have a surprise of about 149 000 um that brings art on balance it dipped a little bit down to 19. 20.5 so when i say um so this was me this means our expenditures are increasing at a faster pace than our revenues so we really do need to keep an eye on that but when i say that with some careful disbursement planning we were able to avoid cash flow borrowing that was us holding some checks some bigger checks back um and waiting for our state aid to come in because it

120comes in like days after payroll so if if they would just give us our money just like three days earlier it would be in much better shape maybe we'll get that new law to pass maybe we'll get that new law to pass equal payments yeah yeah um so that is that's a real high overview of the 2021 school year are there any questions i want okay um and then 21-22 as erin said i reported to you that we were looking at a 1.4 million dollar deficit hey maria could you come closer to your microphone oh sure uh our special is that better yes okay uh our special we got word today that our special ed our edible percent is going up but it's only going up by less than a percent so we had asked

121for how much oh fifteen to twenty percent but yeah it's we were promised two years from now though um so the initial estimate is that we're going to get a little bit less than one percent increase in our specialty but you know we'll take whatever we can get and then and our mental health navigator i don't remember what the exact name of the grant is but we could get that 75 000 grant again so now our deficit is down to about 1.3 million so we're chipping away at it um we are still in that that includes a 15 increase in health insurance which we just met with um group our consultants and they end alex said that's a pretty safe number based on our experience so um but we do have some other opportunities that

122we'll be talking with you about um alex will be he's been invited to our september board meeting so there'll be more information [Music] um we're still waiting for final effort allocation and there is more money out there and it's based on in-person hours of instruction which aaron submitted that by friday's i'll submit it i'm ready i got everything we're ready to rock on it so there should be more a little more money coming um probably less than 100 000 but again um i have in our budget right now just um stable for no increase hey maria something's happened with your microphone to keep it in a certain area it works pretty well all right is that better yeah don't move [Music] i'll try um okay so the third friday count i am in there no

123increase in ft and student ft that's in our budget right now we already know that we're increasing fte in high school and elementary school so we're looking forward to that number going up and as a result our revenue should go um aaron applied for emergency connectivity fund grant so we're ready to hear on that memoirs through the e-rate program we also have the maximum pay increases in the budget currently and that is we'll be reviewing that and making a recommendation on that hopefully at the end of september as well once we know what our third friday accounts and revenue are um next month is the budget faction already so i'll be working on that and hopefully we'll have a budget a little bit more left in and then in october of course is our annual

124meeting so that is it in a nutshell you want me to do do you need any more details on anything or get any other questions for me i want i want to add something really quick so one thing that we've also found is we did have increased state aid of close to 800 000 once again that doesn't mean we have more revenue it just decreases the revenue that we raise locally we also when the new budget came in they also had it where um that the the government is now funding two-thirds so we got more money in public education but once again it was towards uh the general aid so it reduced our our tax limit we've also seen property tax or property value increase in all of our municipalities probably at the highest level

125that we've seen in in my history maria can you ever remember getting higher or being more increased it's gone up five percent so what that means is is we're hitting the storm where we're having more state aid and we're having more property value which means our mill rate is really looking at having a significant reduction now that's something that will come to you in september and say here are some things if we keep you know keep that constant mill rate we can then pay off debt but listening about the high school the middle school looks like we're going to need some more space we also look at where we're looking at operationally being an increased district and i just i i found out that since 2006 there's only two school districts in fond du lac

126county that have been increased in enrollment it's north final act and wolffield other than that there's no other i think that's pretty true across the state um so we're in this storm where nobody will listen to me complain that we're not getting as much revenue because we have more students coming in so we have a lot of things that um that that are coming into fruition that will look at our mill rate our local tax levy that will look at what we could do for our operational referendum versus the capital needs referendum which we have some other things that we know we need to get done too so in a nutshell be ready for options one of the things that marie and i are going to be really working on are options that we can

127present to you and remember that first initial in september that's not the end-all be-all you you look at that we establish a budget then we publish that budget we have that annual meeting the third from the third monday in october then that fourth monday is where we set the levy so we still have some time but know that you're gonna have different options of how that could look for the tax levy for um what it looks to our taxpayers what looks for the needs for the district and also how it looks from a strategic standpoint of us in the future being able to not have a negative impact on our municipalities but also still be able to have as many resources as we need in order to meet the needs of our kids and our

128community and our staff right maria and i just want to offer this out there um we haven't had a budget planning meeting in a long time so if you ever want to do something like that where we can meet before the board meeting and and then we can talk just about budget i know that's really exciting what i was thinking too is that in september we have alex coming but that will be during the board meeting i put out to the board if we could look at 5 5 30 on that monday the 27th of september um we're not gonna have a bunch of policies and there's some benign ones i'll make sure i get you that so you can look at that but i think maria that's where maybe we could have from like

129six to seven a little more in depth about different options and things and then when you present the initial budget and uh after that there'll be more knowledge and understanding then from there we can if we if you guys want more information we can let you know but our goal right now is to give you the information and options to look at what we look like financially and moving forward what that would be anything questions for maria all right thanks maria all right um they're moving on uh future board agents uh that's right if we can would could you guys commit to a five o'clock on the 27th i can 5 36 okay actually you can't get here till 5 30. okay why we do 5 30 then and what we'll do is probably just

130a half an hour policy review if we even need that um and then we'll do an hour of budget and some other information that give us a little bit of kind of a workshop time and different atmosphere and then we'll roll into the regular board meeting where we have where the budget will have the presentation of the budget and ideas so that the board can adopt one which will then send a motion our next steps for a bunch of adoption all right thank you um and then then my goals so we're going to be on top of this when we look at the front line so i'll have my goals and everything and get some feedback we'll go in the closed session on that day also so it'll be a little longer and i'll make

131sure we have some stacks and then we'll have my goals and everything set up so we can be proactive about my evaluation and all the expectations as we go into the 21-22 school year and with that that's a wrap from the superintendent side thank you questions from the board future gendered items the only thing i'll say is that after today i don't does the board feel that we need to have any other meetings we see what happens and i know we'll be watching that if something happens with uh from the health standpoint we i can always call something relatively quick but we going with what our plan is right now yeah we just have to react i think we're pretty good about being able to set up an emergency meeting if we have to okay

132all right thank you guys that's all i've got all right thank you mr sarah next item on the agenda item l new business number one discuss and consider educator contracts for the 20 1 22 school year all right so what i've done is i've provided this list and um i'll continue to do this so we have something that we reactives or that we can pass what really it is it's savannah fire rising and she's going to be going to the right program which is uh an alternative way of getting a license she's going to do a great job and alumni glad to have her then jenna moscow um she has she's also a first year educator she did finish the wright program so there's a change in her salary to meet savannah to explain that

133to you and then paul helm 58 paul helm coming in for a semester we've got paul helm he was a tough negotiator but we got him for one more year or half year sorry paul and we keep it we have it posted too so it was nice to see him matter of fact we hired his neighbor margot goff so they actually commuted together today so it's kind of fun so those are the three he comes from oakfield uh la brownsville i think lamira somewhere all right uh so what's the board's pleasure on the approval of the three educator contracts i'll make the motion to approve those contracts i'll second all right we have a motion in a second to approve the three contracts as presented we'll call vote please yes yes step factor yes chisholm

134yes kodopsky yes all right motion carries unanimously number two discuss and consider personnel uh resignations all right so i have two um i had sent you heather foska has uh resigned and she's going to be taking a job at marcusen for teaching so we thank heather first service and school district north fond du lac and then also matt you're here why don't you mute for your last north final life board meeting um as a as a employee are you still there i'm here all right yeah well thank you for your service matt we appreciate it how's everything going in the world of the panthers it was a uh overwhelming first day excellent so we thank matt for a service here to our kids as a math instructor as uh dean of students and as athletic

135director um and look forward and uh and are excited for him in his future as assistant principal this is just be a stop for them and uh see where the future leads so thank you very much appreciate it thank you do you have any party words matt i'll make a resignations to approve a second and i'll add with uh with regrets on those uh two educators um so roll call vote please step back yes yes all right approve unanimously number three discuss and consider edits to employment guides educator associate and administrator they were sent out to us with a highlight sheet which indicate what the changes were yeah and so both when i changed those three and i gave you the things and i apologize um i didn't get those sooner but these are the

136recommendations that we changed really got rid of the colvin amendment um change the dates fix uh links and documents uh dependencies have to be different worded uh reinstated perfect attendance we have that off the table for a year because it was so bizarre with cold last year transportation agreements with personal and school vehicles to all guides updated purchasing instructions and made it more streamlined thank you maria for that new school calendars updated the per pay event and updated the extra duty compensation schedule which is in hold for now updated the leave in all guides that benefits could be impacted with fmla uh availability if they take unpaid leads and then we added crowdfunding and fundraising to all the different guides really that says is before somebody goes to support my teacher or whatever group they

137come to the administration say hey i want to get this because a lot of times we might be able to get that without crowd funding so we want to make sure that we understand what's going on be there to support and uh and just have a little bit of more oversight on what that is and help support because we might be able to find some resources where teachers don't even our staff don't even need to do that aaron are we still being a little cautious with that because the concept of orientation was to take away all the continual fundraising that parents and grandparents and yeah aunts and uncles are being hit with and kids walk in the streets to knock on doors we don't do crowdfunding is just something online where let's say steve wanted

138to get new furniture like once dude one t-trap five middle school said hey i'd like to get flexible furniture we currently don't have real budget for that they go online from across the world they can get crowdfunded for that so it's a different thing than the oriole nation thing it's it's more just online and with crowdfunding utilizing you know like fund my project from my teacher sure that kind of joined it because those are not using students as a vehicle i'm very supportive all students as a vehicle you will notice that trevor way is going to be doing some fundraising that's separate because they're sold separate 501c3 and they're going to be raising money for a playground and a whole bunch of things too but tiffany always lets us know about that and by the

139way there's calendars if anybody wants my calendars we've got tons of calendars that you guys can buy and sell so um and then really for the associate guide which is our hourly wage uh compensation added that benefits terminate the month so if we have somebody who leads in the summer and their job ended in june that means that their benefits would end at the end of the month so whatever that benefit job is um when that please so for instance we have somebody teaching summer we have somebody teaching summer school that's not part of their contract per se so that's a different one but that's not a benefit-based job it's mostly for hourly wage because all of our salary staff are normally on a one-year contract that go from september 1st or august 30th so

140if they leave and become a new employee their benefits someone else go through august 30. so this is just for hourly wage so let's say somebody leaves in july 14th their benefits end at the july 14th let's say that they're an instructional aid and they say i got a new job in august and they haven't worked since june then their benefits would technically and they would end in june now they have an option to do something called cobra but they don't have to but they don't have to pay for unless they need it sold we're just making it very much aware it mostly impacts people in the summer that are hourly waged and their benefits so that's what that is um and then we just have the fourth of july vacation days for a year

141uh year-round employees um and then just change the ad the pay level that that employment sheet and the workday duty-free lunch not to take on paid lunch the result work hours will not exceed so for instance if somebody says i'm gonna work through my lunch and they're supposed to work seven and a half hours that doesn't mean that that day they work eight if they choose to work through their lunch hour which they're not asking but if they do that will result in not extra hours so that was just a clarification here um and then the new pay rates for the pair for back professionals custodial maintenance administrative assistants i'm proud of these we've worked hard on these for the last two years and they're pretty competitive comparative to other groups um i don't know

142how competitive we are with menards and fleet farmers those continue to grow in that money but those aren't benefits um there's a lot of different elements that what what goes into paying compensating our employees an educator guide specifics compensation school rate 23 which for summer school we passed that earlier extra duty reward to any administrative assigned event this is very rare that it would be ten dollars per hour um and then uh leaves personally uh i've added this and i can talk to staff too please try to not take any personal days the last two weeks of school i don't think there's going to be you can't because there's always different things but really want to get to the point where somebody's using personal data those last two weeks of school are really hard to

143find subs so just putting that in there to have that consideration um and then work days we're going to be working on specific work hours for all buildings this calendar year um in the duty free lunch uh change the wording that uh each educator will have 30 minute duty free lunch if the educator is required to work during that lunch period they will be compensated at the rate of 17 per hour which is our special pay rate we have some student teachers that do that for lunch detentions or work and they volunteer but we ask if they wanted to do that so that's very rare we did have a little bit more when we had eating in the classroom with cold input so that's what that is and then our administrative guide which we passed

144the first edition last december just changed to um the administrators required to be at meetings either virtually or in person and i may ask them because maria will be here in person with a bunch of stuff in the next few meetings so but otherwise the board it was your pleasure you're okay with them virtual and i think it's working pretty well um we'll just make sure their microphones work and they're loud enough um and then i'm going to talk to them i know that the board and i really want to get that report for the most part to you guys by wednesday night so that they get their reports in by wednesday afternoon before um and then uh communication uh this is just a very unique one it's if they use a personal plan to

145turn in their receipts monthly instead of bi-monthly or yearly um and then and hiring we do not compensate people for being on the hiring committee we ask them if they'd like to normally get dinner or lunch or whatever and if there's any outside of school hours they're not compensated if they're hourly waged or teaching um we ask if you like to they're more than welcome to we don't require if we get to a point where people want to be part of that process we might have to look at this and mandate people which you can see that's in there but for the most part um we want people that voice but we want them to feel like they have to um and then uh on all vacations and coverage that to have the administrators put

146in their stuff if they go on the case you have sick day within a week or so of them taking it so an administrator a leader flowchart update the only thing there is to take matt's name off and put open on that position so that's in a nutshell um and i sent you all the all the dependencies are all of our educator our associate and our administrative guides are up to date and um those are the changes i'm just getting nitpicky for a second sure um if someone chooses to work through their lunch and and the school district has knowledge of it and they're not exempt you have to pay them for that you can you can do a corrective action for not failure to following a policy but you do have to pay them

147if they're not exempt and then with the human resources responsibilities under hiring i mean i would shy away from the word volunteer because volunteer with wage and hour has a whole set of criteria because really if you can't volunteer someone can't volunteer what you pay someone to do and i think the argument would be made that someone in the school district is paid to do the hiring so i just would not use the word volunteer okay um non-compensated yeah that's probably better okay um but yeah i would not use that word choice yeah i'm i'm really uh i'm really proud of these uh you know when we act 10 we had bargains and everything was driven by labor and those agreements now we have these and they're living there's a lot of great things in

148there that help that i think make our culture pretty great and help to support that so we keep uh keep getting them better and better so but yeah so those two changes i can adjust that any other comments questions on the board uh all right so uh considering the edits to the employment guides educator associate administrator i'll make the motion i'll second that for approval any further questions or discussions other than what we um what paula brought up for for editing so with those edits uh if there's no other questions roll call we'll please hack yes chosen yes kodaki yes step back yes all right motion carries unanimously number four discuss and consider extra duty assignments so what i did here is i just have our professional educational teammates and our mentors um i just

149have the whole list there again some are added some are changed so i just thought that and really just so i think i've explained this but we we get sometimes like an aaron andrews she's a very seasoned teacher coming from oshkosh she doesn't need a full mentor but she gets a teacher's pet which is compensated at half the amount and uh what they do is then is help aaron learn about how north family does things and what's going on here where you have somebody like a savannah fire eyes who's due to education she definitely needs a full-fledged mentor so that's what those differences are i just have this whole list here because i knew i'd give you some before other ones i just thought that this covers everything if if i had forgotten if one

150change there was one or two that changed there what's the rate do you remember 700 i want to say don't quote me on this but it's around 750 a year for a mentor and maybe 350 for a professional educator teaming all right other questions about the board's pleasure on this extra duty assignments i would like to make a motion to approve the extra view assignments as listed all right thank you for the motion one second and a second any questions seeing none roll call vote please yes yes step backer yes chisholm yes hi yes thank you number five discussion consider adding leas for individual education plan meetings this is something we do every year um chris has actually been hey chris are you there do you wanna just explain this one sure so for iep

151meetings [Music] the district and they can speak to the district resources for adding services things like that any dismissals are being considered and typically those are administrators i ask my staff to invite me to all the iep meetings but if i can't make it then i ask that they ask one of the principals one of our psychologists or one of our counselors um judy and the queue also was very helpful um with our transfer with our review revised meetings and then any of our presence learning ieps so if folks have exhausted all of those options then we looked to this um this group of names that you have on the list that would be our special education teachers also too i want to hey chris could you just comment on how we're going to continue

152to use google meets or zoom for iep meetings and how successful they were in the past absolutely we were really happy we had of our parents participated in iep meetings um this past year and we attribute that to the fact that we were able to meet with them virtually and we could take the meeting to the parents sometimes it's very tricky for parents especially when they're working multiple jobs or if you're a single parent it's hard to come into the school so it worked really well we had meetings sometimes with them when they were on their lunch break they might be in their car um wherever it worked for them sometimes we had later afternoon meetings or very early um so we're going to offer again zoom is an option for parents google meet and

153then in person as well and sometimes we have parents call into the meeting if they're not able to access the video and that has worked worked well too thanks chris all right other questions no i'll let you get a motion let me include the recommendation i will make the motion to approve motion carries unanimous item number six discuss and consider the 4k agreement with parts for kids and advocate for the year this is a yearly thing um what i did is um you know i've reached out to a card for kids and have the cap that's jenna look at avocado and then theresa bertram at arts for kids and um we we did up how much we paid a couple years ago normally it's a two-year cycle so i think what the reimbursement everything's pretty

154much status quo there's no changes in these agreements and i did also keep in there the 4k hours in case or something with having to shut down and things like that in that agreement otherwise it's just a change in dates and it's all the same as it was before and we're fortunate that we use that that number the there's one two and three one is where the district runs 4k two is where there's a blend and three is where it's all partner agencies and we've always done partner agencies in the past the preference center had also the 4k they no longer do but now it's 4k now it's arts for kids and apple cap and all of our phone and also remember to buy a savior uh pete's wife was there too so that's where

155we also have 4k um it's been working very well and now all of our 4k classrooms are over at friendship um i have not are not friendships or early learning um and i have not when dave and i were or dave and maria were doing an audit of how much the building costs are running we haven't increased the rent for uh advocaff and for arts for kids so i'm actually looking at that information and i'll meet with jenna lick from apple cap and then beth termedinis and uh marissa from arts for kids and well right now the next few months it will still be the same lease amount that could change in september but we just we don't want to we don't need to make money but we also don't want to lose money based

156on you know what our costs are for water and electricity and heat and gas so we're just reviewing that we haven't done that in a while so i'll come with that but these are pretty much just the boilerplate of what we've done in the past so both avocab and arts for kids are housed in uh elc correct in what was is the newer section of the building we're not using the older side older section has been shut down there's one or two rooms that are there or one room and then there's an area where there's uh uh there's the new hvac is upstairs in an old classroom um so but they're all there's one room that's uh that if you're looking at the front of the building it'd be to the right and i'll rest

157from here in that hallway remember we also have our early childhood that has moved there so and that's working out really well with a lot of changes there we also have our apartment so we have our life skills apartment now that's an amazing thing which i recommend coming in and checking out then we have the phoenix academy which was also known as the alternative learning center um and that's liz is that elc so all of our 4k arts for kids daycare alc or phoenix academy the living for independence department um and uh yeah so there's a lot still going on there so arts for kids is running daycare and 4k correct and last year we had uh in the space reference center was using it in this building that's no longer here the reason we

158did that is because we had an increase in need for uh for daycare and we didn't need that anymore and plus what our schedules were like and how that worked so they're no longer that matter of fact that area is now known as title town which is where we have our title one title two yell on that title two that's technology so um but so yeah we're we're exploring our space and we have this space so aaron the rent is separate from the agreement correct so there's two things so the agreement is just i'm running the 4k and i'm saying here's the stipulations what you do how you go about doing it here's what we're going to pay for each kid that you do and then the lease is that they're leasing so it's they're

159using our area then to do that i'd be happy to get anybody a tour who's interested in seeing the apartment or early childhood program or any of the 4k classrooms please reach out to me be happy to coordinate that and i do have these if anybody wants to check out the contracts and stuff i do have those like copy i can set them to spds also all right what's the board's pleasure on the 4k for cards for kids and advocate i'll make a motion to approve a second all right any other questions please step back yes yes yes chism yes yes number seven discuss and consider moving the december board of education meeting to monday the 13th uh to recommend this it's normally the 27th is what it would be there is the 20th i

160was i'm not going to be here on the 20th to monday um so um i was thinking you know be a short from one from november but normally our december is pretty light anyway so that way it would be out of the holidays that would work out the 13th of december i'll make a motion to change the december board of education meeting to monday december 13 2020. yes motion carries unanimously that is the conclusion of our agenda for this evening folks thank you very much i will entertain a motion to adjourn i will make a motion to adjourn this meeting all right it's been motioned and seconded it requires no discussion therefore roll problem please uh paula yes poldowski yes step backer thanks chisholm yes hi yes we are adjourned thank you for hanging in

161there for those of you that aim all right thanks for watching all right
