yes all right well i will call to order the july meeting of the school district of north fond du lac um school board roll call chisholm here hi here povatsky here palette here step back here all right report on public notice thanks uh mr vice president uh public notices were mailed to the final election quarter radio station kfiz 107.1 the bull wfdl radio and agendas are posted at the district office the bp and the north foundation municipal building on july 23 2021. all right thank you i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all okay next item is the approval of minutes i got a chance to review those any changes or corrections
the i had a question on the item on uh there are four or five contracts and i had two questions about two of them but then in the minutes it shows that we um didn't pass the proof or that nobody objected that that we voted to approve that but the two that we decided at the table that wasn't listed so i'm not sure is that necessary that because we table votes and just approve the other um we can what what we approved as the ones that are in the list and what we did is just redacted those so those were not the ones that were forward so it wasn't i mean if you wanted noted that those were taken off but they were not approved as long as they weren't approved no they have an
official record then i'm fine otherwise anything else all right then the minutes will stand approved as printed um treasures report our cash balance on hand as as of today june 28th was 282 700 and 21 cents our receipts through friday or you know wow i'm confused but i say june or july i'm sorry was junior right that was right you're right you're you're rolling you're rolling cash today total totaled 198 872.93 get some transfers of a million 500 000 from investment accounts giving us the total receipts of one million nine hundred eighty one thousand five hundred seventy three dollars fourteen cents um our expenditure is through today total of one million eight hundred sixty six thousand fifty dollars and nineteen cents leaving us with a cash balance on hand as of today of 115 522.95
so um the bills to be recommended for payment are our pre-approved checks of one million seventy four thousand forty four dollars and fifty one cents and then our board meeting checks totaling four hundred and seventy nine thousand hundred fifty seven dollars and ninety cents for total bills to be approved of one million five hundred and fifty three thousand two hundred and two dollars and forty one cents all right any questions on the bills all right pete you got anything okay um all right then i'll entertain a motion to approve the treasury report enlisted bills i'll make promotion i'll check it okay and when you're ready yes pack yes yes that backer yes chism yeah all right motion carry and why the clerks report i have nothing to report today thank you okay i think as
for citizens and comments or report as there's nobody here um other than board members we'll just dispense with that item and go [Music] and then okay the superintendent's report thank you very much steve um just really wanted to start with one year ago today um it was uh we were at a position where we didn't know what's going on there was a lot of heated discussion about what's happening we didn't uh we came out of looking at what our transition back to school was going to look like and um at that time i know that you know we were focused on really going after and arguing and discussing ideas and not arguing about people and you know when we looked through it it was a difficult year but one year later i think we're in
a much better position to think that we would be sitting here where we're at uh looking at going back to school with a pretty good plan moving forward to be about as normal as we can i couldn't uh be happy so i just i think sometimes we forget we move forward and uh i want to just make sure that everybody knows that what we went through is unprecedented we've learned a lot it was difficult um but here we are so i just wanted to thank you to this board uh for your leadership through that it was uh very well appreciated and i feel that as we move forward we'll be stronger than we were so thank you very much um next uh colvin fault back uh welcome back plan i'll go through this a little
bit more when we get into the new business but pretty much we had i think in the past two weeks two cases uh in north finalex schools of kids and i think they were teenagers that's really we hear a lot of things about marriage we hear a lot of things about different areas but in our area farm lake county it has been pretty good i think there's a few reasons for that i think a lot of people follow that county had coveted already through the whole time and also i think our vaccination rates are up pretty high also so um really we started it was on tuesday we met with the fond du lac county health department um again to get those going again and um and appreciate kim i also sent you guys all
uh the county health department along with boshiro winnebago county dodge numerous other companies got together and put together some guidance of coming back um what they would recommend uh i shared that with that is what i utilized to with bridgette also said to the county health department to make sure that they're okay with their plan to develop our plans so um looking looking like uh pretty good we can always adjust but one thing that's uh very certain as the board has given us guidance is that you know we follow the signs we follow the numbers and when those numbers go in the other direction and we start to see and learn different things that's things that we follow too i was uh the new york times today had an article it was written by a
guy by david david leonard and it's pretty it was a perspective article but one of the things that he had said in here that i think resonated with me is he talked about what we know and one thing that that some facts that are really indisputable is number one vaccinated people are nearly guaranteed not to be hospitalized or killed by coal that's that's number one is that that is working among children under 12 are remaining eligible for vaccinations serious forms of colebrook are also extremely rare children face bigger risks when they ride in a car so we know that so even though that we've seen some children get cold but it's still more dangerous for them to ride in a car and possibly a covet and we know that the delta variant does not appear
to change either one of those two facts and that millions of unvaccinated americans are vulnerable to hospitalization or death but those that have that are flesh vulnerable so those are things that we know we know our staff is about 90 plus vaccinated um we've offered it to 16 years and up those at one take advantage half um we are i am not recommending that all different areas are recommending that uh are not recommending buck mandate we're not mandating or we're going to ask for that and um my recommendation with uh working with bridget coney health is that we're at that point in time now where we will monitor things and do the responsible thing but if we can make things as normal as we can for our kids and for our community to be in
school it's been as well still being safe and i know i think mostly at the collegiate level but they're they're not mandating vaccines but they're requiring those who aren't vaccinated to um we do have tests so bridgette has about 40. tess i believe she's going to look for some more so we will be a testing site so if kids have we're still going to follow hate if you don't feel well and you're at home we're going to have to rely a lot on parents and things so we're still having you see the welcome back plan which i'll go through when we get to new business that we still come for we're still doing the cleaning the mitigation strategies when we can stay separate we will um our new hvac we're not taking that out so
that's still there um the clean we're still gonna have families to monitor their children and keep the moment they're sick so we're still gonna be doing a lot of our mitigation strategies the big ones that we're going to really be a little bit more let's dial it back until we feel we have to as a masking in the physical distance which means from when we look at the physical distancing we're looking at having kids be able to play in the playground with all of their their grade level not just one class um we're looking at we're going to have a little bit higher class size because we're not going to have those long-term substitutes um but what we saw at the end of the year plus when we saw some of our colleagues go mask
optional and made it work so i think that's you know the the data for us here is different than the data for other people different places and we will monitor that um but right now i feel very good about where we are as a district aware as a community i was just curious more than anything other than health departments and discuss that particular approach but that's fine yeah i think the big thing is the confidentiality we haven't gotten to a place where we're going to ask if you've had it or not um and we're going to have even with staff i mean we're not going i mean i mean if we're a private business we could i mean there's a lot of things that are different but as a public entity i think and also
understanding where we're at and what the mindset i think of the board and the leadership here is that we where we trust people to make a decision with their bodies which they think is best then you live with those consequences our staff also there's no more goal indeed so some of our staff decide not to get the golden shot and then they end up getting significant there's two sick days so i mean there's and if they run out of those then then they'll be unpaid so we're moving forward and everybody has choice and that choice is brings you know consequences and rewards so that's where we're at all right erin are we going to get a um updated you know we're closer to the start of the fall you know where our population of students
who are eligible what the actual student percentages of vaccination rates um we can try i know last time when we had it here when it was 16 or above i believe we had 80 students so i'm going to have to check with bridget for sure but i'll make sure that she i get that information the next few weeks to get that to get an update i know what happened as a baseline heading into the school year would be nice to know that you know if this much of our population was eligible this much this percentage was vaccinated just as we make decisions you know through whatever comes our way i don't think you can really ask that yeah well i know i mean again i know public private i'm in a private but we're we
have there's no hipaa violation we can ask our employees if they're vaccinated or not and we are and they don't have to tell us they don't have to tell you correct but we are asking so we'll probably put out a survey see that people say yes no care not the answer and we'll see what have mostly i think that's a good a good good information to have um i think there's going to be more of a uh or less number of kids to get the vaccination just because of them of the kids and i think what i've heard most is if my childhood i'd rather have my child get colder than um then be vaccinated because that might have less of an impact on them that's what i've heard so i don't think we're going
to see a lot of vaccinations of younger students i'm not sure i think now this is just totally i think we have a lot of students who already had it a lot of asymptomatic i think that's probably true throughout the country um i think what we'll see though is we'll monitor it and we'll check and we'll test it and we'll see what goes on but i would like to see if we can get those numbers do does our nursing staff administer vaccines no no well they can there um bridgette does i mean but with under the code no it's all at a clinic so if somebody wanted to give one we'd have set up a clinic or like for instance um my kid went to the beach this is my opinion only of course personal
but i really hope we don't have that here i know that many people would feel that that would be a nice service to have a vaccine clinic here i just don't i think it would be more disservice so anyways if that ever happens it is what it is but i truly know it i'm not for that truly and i just so i have to bring this up because you know me so this was on the 21st did you see what the cdc and fps came up with it's basically testing in the article so pcr tests for coping 19 failed its review if if you know what that means so it's not so they had it for emergency use but now that they reviewed all of it they know that so here's what it it now
prefers laboratories to use a method that can physically facilitate detection and differentiation of sars kobe 2 and influenza viruses so basically what they're saying is that for this whole year and a half that they have been using the pcr test it cannot differentiate between coping and influence them so people say where did the flu go oh because we masked we did this and that they don't know the difference they can't tell the difference with the pcr test so anyways those are kind of going by the wayside we now know well we didn't know but the cdc is now admitting that the testing basically was inaccurate as far as the numbers that they put out there and the flu and cv numbers were combined so i find that very interesting why it's not broadcasted across all
the media's interesting um anyways i don't know if the pcr testing is what we do here but um you know again i don't know how i've heard that and is it blue or kobe 19 yeah so we'll just continue to go with what the recommendations of the county health department with bridgette we'll see it i have a feeling we're going to look back at 5-10 years and have a different perspective on it this time um but the what we're doing what we're going to continue to do is be as pragmatic and safe as we possibly can and uh move forward all right so um now right here so the next thing is a statement of perspective on current con conversations on critical race theory um and i just want to if people want to read
this and it's in the published notes uh and online for the uh the board packet um but i'll just overall just we do not cage critical race theory in the school district of north fond du lac uh critical race theories intellectual movement loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural biological grounding feature of physical distance or distinct subgroups of human beings but socially constructed in the category that is used to oppress and exploit people of color critical race theorists hold that the law and legal institutions in the united states are apparently racist and so as far as they function to create and maintain social economic political inequities between whites non-whites especially african-americans what happened was is that tucker carlson and other pundits utilize this idea of critical
race theory and then it became a catch-all for a lot of the work that's been done that's been going on with equity that's been going on social emotional learning um that has been going on about how do we go about teaching civil rights and racism in america because we know that it's been there and we've been teaching about the history of america as we've learned more and more in the world we've learned more and more because we used to get all of our information from one source so we're continuing tomorrow there is no i think there's a big fear about um about white guilt or about people losing things and that's by no means is that anything that this district i don't know any other districts that i've talked to are doing so i can
tell you that the school district does not teach that we have a long way to go in order to have equity and when i say equity i mean that every student has what they need when they need it regardless of color regardless of gender regardless of that first language regarding the social economic status and that's something that we've always done we have to get better and better so social emotional learning is very different we've been teaching that for a while including happiness positive psychology and um that has nothing to do with um critical race theory what it has to do with just teaching students things that we never learned as kids in school and uh about how to deal with adversity and how to uh be have a different perspective and how to support and
have different ideas i sent you the seven mindsets curriculum a link that's what we use in all of our schools so i just want to make that statement i know that's something that's that's coming through on many different areas i was in washington dc and uh it's their iowa actually passed a law that you can along with 10 specific things that you can't also teach in classes there's been talk about body cameras because of the mistrust of educators and the rooms and what they're teaching so it's gotten to be a point where there's also been a lot of it's had some economic impact with open records requests uh i know that in the milwaukee area i talked to my colleagues there's a lot of challenging books a lot of open records requests about all the
different curriculum that's being taught to try to flush out to see if there's anything that's um that should be taught or that's related to critical race theory so um i can just say very very um confidently that we do not create or teach critical race theory do we do really well with talking about race and talking about inequities and diversity not as good as we need to and that's somewhere where we have to continue to grow and um that's uh just kind of a background on that open up for for comments or information that the board wants to all right well i do have comments erin um so um you know children notice and talk about race regardless of whether adults or schools initiate the conversations as a school district i believe it's crucial we
give our kids contests language and tools to ask questions and hold conversations about race and racism what it is and why it's important one way we do this is through telling stories of those whose experiences are not often told we need to learn about their social realities if children of color are confronted with racism every single day then their white peers are old enough to learn the denial of systemic inequities is real and schools must be part of the solution in addressing it i want all of our children to be critical thinkers and it doesn't appear that we as a country are ready for them to be a wise man formerly from the fond du lac community alonso kelly reminded me that there are ways to make change for a dollar and not to panic
we can choose as a community to band critical race theory but you cannot ban thought i am supportive of equitable education for all and reading and teaching books that center people of different races and ethnicities and not just books on solely on injustice and oppression but books on joy and power as well so um yeah as long as i am on this board i will be pushing for that and i think we have a long way to go as a district and i also think that scl has nothing to do with this so um yeah um change is hard but we can do hard things and we continue to prove ourselves all the time with that but i think we need to um really think about our equity and if we're equitable providing equitable education
and that is my focus and my agenda for being here thank you anybody else all right then i know that a lot more conversation yesterday i was just gonna say that the time magazine did a cover story a couple weeks ago that i thought was pretty well balanced in explaining the views of each side of this issue from you know i guess people who lived it and also were authorities on on the subject and stuff so if you'd like i could forward a copy of that to you i found it refreshing because it wasn't totally one-sided view one way or the other it was trying to explain why people thought the way they did on both sides of this particular issue so and i think one one of the main things that i think we
will start to learn hopefully is that when you watch news via msnbc see it cnn seaguar be at fox um there's a lot of commentary and when you have commentary you can get away with not being factual with having more mental pain and because of that when people watch those shows are based on ratings and based on getting advertisers and that information is seen as news and not commentary and what we will continue to do as a school is trying to teach people our students or staff about critical analysis of information that's probably one of the biggest obstacles and probably one of the most important things schools can do is how do we flush out fat from fiction and how do we look at you know that so i think that's going to be a
big thing so you didn't go forward yeah i'm sorry i'm processing all of that you know but in general right we hear a lot that people of color are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin and that's really in in my opinion that's very inaccurate and misleading i mean people of color are treated unfairly because of white supremacy and you know an example of that and that's something that i do you know you know the thought that race is socially constructed it you know obviously is not based in biology but you know i mean i just just think of the census that we just went through um those racial racial classifications in the census i i work on affirmative action eo reports and those categories are things that we constructed we meaning white
people i i like i said i think our kids need to um again we don't have to call it critical race theory i mean again there's 293 93 ways to make change for a dollar but we need to teach them how this came to be and how hopefully they could be the change that we need to see but we we have to be talking about it and we have to be a part of that in a school district as i believe so all right well thank you and i'm sure there'll be more information to come um and we will make tonight what i do is i uh i pledge to all of you that if there's any questions or anything that come up we will keep them above we'll talk about them and there's no
need to quell any voices because we need to know what's out there i'd rather have everything be under the sunlight that thing's hiding on the side so our tasks ahead of us are going to be difficult but they're going to be very worthwhile and we can be the leaders in the community we can be the leaders in their area so thank you all right next governing board i'm very fortunate to be back on the governing board thanks again for the support of that um this was my seventh year in the past eight that went out of washington dc uh and i gave i had given you that update there uh it was myself uh dr jim siebert from waukesha dr erdoganes from the florist mark hanson dr hanson from couldn't come one of the reasons
he couldn't come is because in elmwood here having a huge board meeting about what we just talked about um and then past president debker was there too and uh we went and we visited every one of our contingencies we got to go to the offices of six of them um we saw one of uh representative stiles from the the first district paul ryanville district down by lake geneva um and uh i know that uh representative gallagher came up with an idea about how to change education he had his staff said nothing to us when we're out there just a week earlier so interesting that it'll be fun to talk about what that is um but overall one of the greatest things about going out to dc is finding out where we stand with other states
and we are in very good shape as far as like how we're dealing with colbit how we're dealing with uh the critical race theory how we're dealing economically how we're dealing with growth there's a lot of things wisconsin should be proud of a lot of things we need to work on um but our voice is loud and the federal policy there is there's a lot of difference for the first time and even with the obama administration and the trump administration for the first time at this conference the department of education was in and the deputy of the deputy secretary was there too and they're asking what superintendents think that's never happened before so it's pretty interesting i mean even with obama if you remember during the obama administration it was a very federal driving public
education where the there's a lot of mandates and things coming from the federal government about changing some stuff there's a lot of good things but there wasn't a lot of interactions with states and then we we just had a different situation the past four years but for the first time there's actually really good cohesiveness and what i can tell you from the aas and the superintendents association there's a lot of pragmatism there and understanding of what's going on we're very we feel very blessed to have that voice and we won't take it lightly so we'll see what happens and they actually are looking at the budget and how the budget was passed and if that's that's legitimate for maintenance of effort um so they're aware of a lot of things in wisconsin and just as
a caveat that the governor is looking to have a special session because remember in the budget there's like 550 million dollars that went to the rainy day fund which is like savings which already has like i think it's pretty full already so about spending on public education um so we'll see what happens there could be something that comes out of that maybe not because i know the senate and the assembly are getting back in the session to look at vetoing or overriding details of the governor so there could be a little bit more public education investment we'll see so and that's with the budget we're not going to really know a whole bunch uh we know we have some more state aid coming we'll have an update for you in august but right now it's
kind of like like i said before the only you know jello to a wall you just can't so um the next time that i would be going with the governing board and meeting will be in february at national convention so looking forward to that at this time too since we're talking conventions who's interested it's the like the week of the 19th of going down to milwaukee getting rooms all set so if you guys think about i'll send out an email this week um what days you can come down if you can't come down to milwaukee for the for the the state education detention yeah so that we could the most look at that yeah it's like it's the 19th through um if anybody's got a killing around is wednesday yep it starts wednesday so we
would go down tuesday night or if you can come over so it's the 19th through the that friday which is the 21st so um you just let me know what day's going to come down and we can get rooms and it should be i we aren't currently looking to be presenting much um so it'd be kind of nice to learn and just see people you've been it's been a while that was a nice time to get together at home you know well that was mark i don't know how we would be able to go see either one of those but i definitely put my fielders on that'd be nice for the bucks we haven't seen them in a while i saw that i saw that on game three at a very nice place at the
bradley center some of them are not friendly uh any questions about the governing board no i think that's excellent that you're part of that agenda you know yeah it was great here yeah thanks cool um and then uh other announcements so august we'll have all the employee guides there's a whole bunch of change that's uh the hourly wage called the associate the educator and the administrator guide policy updates we'll have our first reading of our next set of policy updates um and then i'm also going to i have shown you earlier one of my goals this year is to have like workshops organization uh predictability of what's going on reports have some more um specific months where reports are going to go i will have uh an idea like the first draft actually probably it'll
be a little more refined than that of what that would look like throughout the year so it's another uh i think another great piece of a document that can help guide us as it be more efficient and effective i think too to your point paula we'll be able to look at plug in different things where we can focus and do some more learning too um what i'd like to do on uh that board meeting in august is maybe meet an hour early and just talk about that so we meet at six and we just talk about that plan about looking at laying out what the year looks like for our board agenda items where we want to do some more learning what that looks like what kind of support that you want from me but
if that would be okay we would start at six go six to seven kind of a board workshop that would look specifically at that but then we roll right into our our meeting okay that's same as the back to school day right back first day back and that first day back we have the morning that monday the week before i have orange frog a new staff academy and then that monday or that monday morning i'll be here we'll have lunch here at friendship and then we'll do convocation activities and friendship uh in the morning and then if you go online to our welcome back page you can see the rest of the week out all unfolds but there's there's no responsibility for the board but we should love to have you on monday morning if
you can make it for breakfast yep yes okay and that's all i have do you guys have any questions all right then moving on to new business the first item is to discuss and consider educator contracts for the 2021-2022 school year and uh so what i did um steve is i sent you guys the names um and then um the new ones that are on there you'll notice tiffany dolan administrator contract for the trafford way the 25 percent which is our next item and then we have uh two el teachers margo and paula that uh mike has done an absolutely outstanding job paula had uh applied for an el8 and then when she came interviewed found out the unbelievable experience and success she's had in puerto rico and in florida and i really think that's
a great thing we're starting to get more of our staff that that looks like our students and i think that's that's very very important um so uh to go along with jose uh i think we're gonna i think it's gonna be great so how much uh her family lives here she's currently working like doing telemarketing up in oshkosh so she lives here now and then working with dpi with her having balance floor licenses there's one of the great things that has happened in the past few years as reciprocity works you used to be if you wanted a license in wisconsin you had to take that like if you had like if you wanted a social studies license you had to take the history of wisconsin co-ops before you could get that that was up until
then yeah and then take a special wisconsin state board then yeah so we're getting smarter there so um so yeah that's the contracts all right i'll entertain a motion there to improve those contracts and again instead from the list and not the entire staff but right professional educators okay i we have a second i'll second okay any further discussion roll call that's yes yes steph walker yes chisholm yeah yes okay number two discuss and consider administrative contract for 20 or oh 2021 2023 school year yep so it's just two years uh but it doesn't go up in anything for the second year in less board action uh that's how we normally have done that tiffany he's done a great job she's now going to be the lead she's doing a great job at the trevor
way it's a 25 contract um so that's 230 not 260 days so there's less vacation and uh but i think she'll do an absolutely outstanding job already has and then with that there was a reduction of our educator contractor 75 percent which the board just acted on before 25 principal then right right and i provided the board was a copy of that contract last week i believe okay i'll make that motion to prove that administrative contract report and if i didn't will [Music] yes yes all right motion carried so move to number three discuss and consider fall welcome back all right so um working with bridget and also working with the county health department i had sent you that information of how the county health department got together with other different counties i mean came
up with different recommendations from restricted more restricted but less restrictive what i am recommending is the least restrictive of the recommendations um and the reason that i'm recommending this is based on as i said earlier in our superintendent's report the data is just showing that colbit there isn't we're really not having any real issues with spreader with people getting cold even with that delta variant in in the county um also summer school we've got mass optional no students that i know of or staff at ward mass we haven't had any issues with that also um also i don't know of any other of the other schools that it made that would mask optional i haven't heard anything negative about any upswings or anything that they have so we can always go tighter i know that
there's different areas like nina i know that they didn't vote to make mass optional so they're going back i think some of the larger districts is a little bit more of apprehension um but i really think this is the right thing to do right now i think it i think it trusts our families and our parents it puts a lot of onus on them to keep their sick children home and i think that's one of the things that we do really well is empower families and work with them and believe in them so the main areas of mitigation that we keep doing are that monitoring this child we have that parent student pledge promote hand washing sanitizing covering one's uh cough and sneeze which we always have before routine cleaning disinfectant of common surface areas
we'll still have wipes so still have hand sanitizer all over um encourage golden 19 pence nations to all eligible individuals we will not require it but encouraged try to keep three feet of separation when possible and then you can see the disease prevention practices masking optional but highly recommended if not fully vaccinated if students or staff want to wear a mask we'll make sure that there isn't any social down on them we'll make sure that i know some other areas i was talking to some somebody out east from uh from virginia and they are all wearing masks in their school district because they don't want people to feel bad that haven't gotten vaccinated or and i don't think that's the right reason so i think there's a lot of different areas i think when we
invest and trust our families and we see the numbers that we're at i think that's i think that's a good thing um quarantined household siblings unless vaccinated so if they're close contact if it's a household sibling sibling even if they aren't symptomatic they'd have to quarantine um court and then stay home and follow cdc guidelines unless vaccinated but if you're vaccinated as a house as a court as a household contact then you would not have to stay home if you don't have symptoms um stay home isolated non-household contacts um that are symptomatic so if let's say sean comes down with covet and steve has some symptoms um as long as he's if he has symptoms stay home but when the symptoms are gone then come back to school um and then quarantine of non-household close
contacts asymptomatic notify the parents monitor for symptoms keep home with sick unless vaccinated so if the student's vaccinated um and they they are close contact but uh they don't have the very symptomatic then they don't have to quarantine um and then avoid large and nordex crowds i think our kids will still be very social i see that happening right now too even with staff that people are very thoughtful of space more so than ever before so it's pretty interesting how that worked you might have been noticing that too one thing is is that a bus is the federal well there's one federal mandate that any mass transportation has to wear a mask and they say school buses are mass transportation i disagree with that but aaron save also pity doesn't count right now and the
reason that i disagree with that and if i'm not alone is that our buses are a specific route with the specific kids it's not that random people get on that bus so all the kids getting on that bus we are assuming that they've been screened that they are doing everything they can and it's to keep cold out of school so if that changes then the recommendation to where massive bus would also change but right now from a legal standpoint and also insurance we just got something from our insurance carriers and stuff that we still need to follow that so once that and there is some push when i was in dc they were talking about maybe editing that because when you look at a city bus or an airplane it's much different than a school
bus because on the school bus we know specifically who's on there and who's not on there and you know we could monitor that too so that's really what i'm you know passing this that's what we would go with um and then the metrics student and staff infection and illness uh community affection rates guys from the du finale county health department and district preparedness i think as we move forward if we're looking at all of our infection rates are at a level where they're down and when you get kids in school our buildings are cleaner than any and i'm not saying that our restaurants and our shop owners aren't cleaner the walmart targets are clean but our schools are a lot cleaner and have better air ventilation and a more focused clean than any of those
areas and i feel comfortable with how we're prepared um and then you can see each one of those four are explained and a little bit more and then um the last part is uh when we have uh the student-impaired pledge i updated that and really once again this is what i think it's really important for us i think it's something that's worthwhile is to invest in our families or our partners they know their children and we want to make sure that we do things in the right way and if we do have the outbreak of cold in schools we're going to have to do that we could need to chuck down we could need to pass back up who knows but it's going to be up to all of us to keep our kids safe
and to do the right thing so that's where the student parent clutch comes from um and then [Music] that's uh really the recommendation and then we'll just keep you updated as things go i can tell you i talked to some local school districts public and private they are going with the same recommendation uh the final like area school district they are going to be on august 10th deciding i don't know how if they're going to go with this one or the middle or then they're going to come up with whatever they believe is right for their district i know when we go i think oshkosh and nina i know nina's rethinking something since they did pass i know green bay is listening they're going to be talking about it we have them go ahead tonight
we have we're different what's it and what i what i really you know and i mean we're different in who we are we have we have 1500 kids we have 200 staff we can know a lot more about what's going on we've been able to invest we have one building for each one of them and dave and his crew have done a great job with enhancing and making them cleaner and safer so i feel comfortable with this i also think that you know every district's got to do what they think is right we were told that loud and clear last year at this time that we're not going to be told we'll be giving recommendations but i i believe that by having the least restrictive approved plan from the finale county health department bridget is
on board also um that that i think we can go into focus on student learning and student growth and other important things and just keep our eye always on this and be vigilant but i feel very comfortable with recommending this so the recommendation would be to adopt this plan and then if there would be any change if we would have like we looked at a break i would call a meeting and then say okay at this time let's talk about where how we want to look at asking or not is this something that you want me to decide or is this something that the board wants to have action on um because i think right now looking here if there is something we can get people together quick enough that we know of that an
upgrade because i'd want your opinion on that but i don't want all of a sudden we pass this and then aaron says oh two weeks from now there's school districts are doing mass so now i say we're gonna do mass i don't think that's i shouldn't have that authority right now but if we get to the point i'd come and ask the board to meet and talk about what that authority would look like and get guidance from just to be clear on the business so with this recommendation i mean we're going to make it very clear to our community that the business requires the mass yeah so if parents are against that they can figure out how they get their kids transported here with enough time before the school year starts yep and that's a
better way i like i said it can change i think i think it would make sense if it changed but from an insurance standpoint and what we're being told i don't think it's the right thing to be collapsed cavalier disregarding federal mandate it's not yeah as long as we're getting it out there so people can make their decisions i think that's what we can do and our hours are going to be back to where they were so there's it's not going to be as crunchy last year was a little bit crunched with some time because we had less time in between the starts and the ends at least at the end of the day so um should be good and even our longest rollers not all that long let me just make sure if i
ever drive that round jackson although it's licensed so it's good january [Music] i'm working with mike and we're looking at kind of we're involving our our hispanic el program support we're looking at having one person that that's in charge of doing all of the um the translating as the liaison to our hispanic community gets out there and talks it doesn't just helps helps really the families to embrace what we're doing so yeah definitely all right i just have one question i mean we will effectively not be doing any quarantining um and also well if it i mean unless it says and hear the caveat unless vaccinated but if we can't ask if they're vaccinated well we can say exactly that they say i mean that's we're gonna have to deal with honesty the big thing
is symptoms yeah the big thing is symptoms and then you know somebody if somebody's coughing and they're sick we still reserve the right to send them home too and this could evolve and change i i don't know if i'm being naive and too hopeful but i think we're at a point right now where community wants your kids at school teachers want their kids at school or want to be in school you know and then also from a standpoint of welcome back plan as i said earlier there's no special hr things now for our staff if our staff doesn't get vaccinated and they get culvert there's they have sick days after years there's no more cold days if you will so there's i mean we're going back there isn't any more of that special thought process
or or leeway for staff as it was in the past in just a comment today i got something an announcement from the eeoc that there is such a thing now that's called long covered um and potentially great employers may need to accommodate that and that that long covet can be something that falls under the american with disabilities act and so um i don't think you would treat it any differently than anything else you recently accommodate but then we're starting to see that you come into the workplace yeah by the way anything that you hear paul you want to throw my way an hr standpoint very much appreciate it chat again i was a little remiss with each of the items i'm asking you if you had any thoughts i'm sure you would have chimed in
but just i would have jumped in to approve the fall welcome back plan i'll make a motion to approve the fall welcome back plan sounds like any further discussion all right roll call all right then the last item is to maintain a motion to adjourn i'll make that motion yeah i think that's the first time i wasn't talking during the vote further so there you go thanks uh for uh cheering me i appreciate it sure thanks aaron for setting up the link so that i could tv everybody have a nice day take care everybody and so do you guys
