001plge aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all right we are now at the appearent section of our agenda and just a reminder that we do have a three minute time limit and uh I ask that all speakers um just remind themselves that they are part of this community and and uh we all uh want to try and work together so with that we'll start off with Josh Mor hi Joshua Mor 827 North Main Street rice Wisconsin um thank you for reviewing the data that I sent out last week um I want to address a little bit about the the gaps in between the data though um starters I want to point out that

002the recommended ratios for school social workers are one school social worker per 250 pupils um 50 uh pupils to one school social worker when there's High needs and our school district has 2200 2,170 or something like that pupils the reason why I'm pointing that out is not like a pity party but just to remind you that part of the job is constantly putting out fires um filling gaps uh being asked to work work with students that are not on my regular case load um pulling me away from the existing case load when I'm already stretched a little thin as is the rest of our pupil services staff people who are crying in our pupil Services area students that I've never met students who I may have seen here or there occasionally but who developed something

003of a trusting relationship students dealing with issues that others may be uncomfortable talking about that's what a school social worker does so next year without with the obvious material and mental health needs in our community how do we think it'll work out for our students and for our remaining staff to be cutting our pupil services staff what is our pupil Services Lobby going to look like in each of our buildings I recognize the budget I recognize the risk in uh spending against the stretched budget some things are worth that risk so if the issue is me and no one has communicated to me that the issue is me but if the issue is me don't punish the students on my account for whatever dissatisfaction there might be with my job performance don't punish the students

004for that take comfort in knowing that I'll be gone I will not be here anymore regardless of the whe what your decision you make about the student uh School social worker position take the risk for these kids in hiring a new school social worker I assure you they're worth it next we have Erica spear thank you I'll pass them now you better [Music] I understand that tonight the board will be making a final determination regarding the Staffing report for next year and that my words here tonight won't change the outcome however I have it so many students parents and staff asking about what's going on due to a lack of information being available to the aforementioned groups I feel that I need to at least share my voice for my own conscience we currently have

00513 pupil Services team members licensed and certified available for Universal supports districtwide and will go down to 11 next year which is a 15% cut in February the National Education Association wrote an article sharing how funding shortfalls are exacerbating existing School counseling shortages and that when school counselors spend so much time on other duties assigned they often feel there's not enough of them to go around this shortage also impacts the morale of remaining staff who are already overworked how can we say that we place a priority on student well-being and mental health when we make these decisions we are putting our students and staff at risk I do understand that the district has a deficit and needs to find ways to cut spending and I certainly don't want other staff members losing their jobs but

006I don't think it is completely understood what it is that we as pupil services do and I'm terrified of the consequences of the Staffing decision made we've been through the details last year regarding how counselor time is spent at the high school we are in the middle of testing and scheduling will spend most of the remainder of our year on that not student mental health not student well-being but again I've shared this all before it seems the data presented did not have an impact on this year's decision- making licensed School social workers are the direct point of contact between a student in need family school and Community agencies they help remove barriers to learning especially those that stem from outside of the school they also provide a Continuum of supports to students with a focus

007on prevention and Wellness promotion where will that support come from next year we do not have another staff member with this ler or certification this past week at the high school we gave a staff climate survey I'd like to share a quote from a staff member begin quote I thought our district was heading in a direction to be more supportive of mental health needs of students as we were looking into Suicide Prevention programs and discussing ways to use home rooms as a mechanism for educating all students about mental Wellness however given the what I would consider Extreme Cuts in our mental health support department I feel as though the message from admin is quite clear and is contrary to my earlier assumption subpar support in math or English results in lower test scores subpar support

008in mental health can literally be fatal as we sadly know firsthand end quote it feels like we as individuals and we as counselors psychologists social workers and nurses are expendable our voices do not matter our positions do not matter and we do not matter our people Services team is here because we love our students and want to support them but we can't do it with our hands tied or at the expense of our own wellbe thank you thank you Abby fiser Abby fiser I live in Rice Lake I am here tonight to speak to the same topic as Joshua and Erica the proposed cuts that you are reviewing tonight may take action on tonight I would encourage you uh to table them and take more time to review the cuts that are proposed um right

009now the significant changes in people services are deeply concerning as a district we have made great strides in the last I would say seven or eight years in serving our students and their mental uh emotional and social concerns and also helping their families the mental health Navigator the school social work the high school counselor and the attendance coordinator have all been significant in helping our students and our families these proposed reductions and Staffing will likely have a huge impact on the district and our community if you do go ahead with these Cuts I encourage you to engage us as a community to find out how do we help these students and our community the decisions you make for our for the buildings and what happens to our students and our staff will have a larger

010impact on our community uh I know other community groups are already discussing how do we help you as a district sadly we don't have the money to fill the coffers and I apologize for that I paid my taxes over the weekend um right please engage with us because we are concerned for you and for our students and for our Community uh as a member of higher education in the community we want to help you I also don't have money to throw from from the from the University but we want to collaborate we want to ensure that we are taking care of our students I really encourage you not to make all of those reductions in pupil services that are proposed we added those and I'm G say we because I was on the board when

011this happened we added those positions on purpose and for a reason they have done good and the trends that we have seen in this District regarding the needs of Mental Health the social emotional needs and the attendance needs are real and they are nationwide we don't have a silver bullet here in Rice Lake but we have done good work and you have continued good work as a board I encourage you to to find other ways to continue serving our students also while I'm up here I've got a little bit of time I'm going to thank both Joshua and Erica for the work they do Erica mentioned that there are I think 13 currently on staff and people Services they are all overstretched and they do tremendous work every day and say thank you to them

012for their work thank you to our administrators I know it is not easy to be being an administrator and having to make these challenging financial decisions but please these positions are essential to our students well-being and our community's wellbeing please make a um consider other options thank you thank you all right that concludes our appearance section we now have uh the approval of regular session and Clos session meeting minutes from March 25th 2024 I would entertain a motion to approve so motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded any further discussion seeing none all in favor signify by saying I I opposed and the minutes have been approved next we have our consent agenda where we have our monthly budget and cash Reconciliation Report our board bill we

013have one employment resignation and we have it's like One Employment recommendation and with that I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda I move to approve the consent agenda as presented motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded any further discussion seeing none all in favor signify by saying I I opposed and the consent agenda has been approved next we have our report section our child development day and 4K enrollment updates Marsha and Lori hello we want to just provide a brief um update about our child development days and 4K enrollment event that happened in Fe it's a combined effort between our departments so um with a couple different purposes that we blend together and it works out really well so uh part of the event

014is uh providing this opportunity for families to come and bring their children to see what a day and 4K is like and also the chance to enroll their student um for 4K um there staff there that can help with that process people don't have to come to the 4K event to enroll but uh we can provide the help during that event the other piece is the child find all right child find so uh one of the things we need to do in special education is called child find where we um provide opportunities for the district and for families um that are concerned that their child might not be developing typically to come and get screened and so by combining the event with the 4K enrollment we um in provided this this opportunity for all kids

015that were going into 4K whether the parents were concerned about their development or not as well as then anybody three actually birth to three we invited um the County birth to three agency to come as well um it's a way for for families of children that are birth to three to to potentially get Services through the county um and then once they turn three we um we as a as a school district need to do that child fine do the evaluation if we believe there's a disability and so as part of that we do um develop mental screenings we have special education teachers on site to do some play the kids come in play and they kind of observe to see if they see any kind of um things that might not be quite up

016to par um we have um audiologists come from C 11 to do hearing checks our nurses do the vision checks um speech and language um Pathologists are there to observe their language and their speech um to see if there might be some delays there and then at the end of that um all of the students kind of rotated um to different um parts of the building to to participate in the screening and um if we did see concerns we talk to the parent and then referred on for either potentially for to you know we maybe need to go see your doctor about the hearing issue that we found um because sometimes it's just wax um and then um up to doing some special education referrals all right just a little bit of review the Child

017Development days were held at tainter Elementary this year um making use of the classrooms that are available there we did an evening um so Thursday the 8th after school and then the following morning on Friday the 9th we tried to promote this in any way that we could between social media posts putting up signs around the district um flyers and postcards um radio and newspaper just trying to get the word out um lots of representation from our staff from Administration to the teachers um also had um hillt K in preschool represented as they um are one of our 4K sites C 11 came and did some screenings y Audiology up um birth to three um and then people got a little goodie bag with some fun that they took took home afterward kids were pretty

018excited about that they want yeah Special thanks to Katie for working on those goodie bags and organizing all of this as well so um very good turnout for that for the event on the evening event we had a total of 37 kids and you can see the age breakdown there um and then Friday another 28 children for a total of 65 children Al together so we were a little busy yeah but in a good way and just a reminder to any families that you might know or who might be watching you can still enroll you don't have to as I said you didn't have to attend the event enrollment is open and we encourage you to enroll as soon as you can if you haven't yet information can be found on the website or call

019talk to Katie Wick talk to me don't worry talk to anybody enroll your students any questions thank you just a special thank you to all of the people who these were all the people that participated in the child find event um as we said we had many stations throughout the building and so took took a few of us to do that so any questions does anybody know how many kids we have in our 4K program currently currently 12 I think does that sound right about right 112 okay and how many do we typically get this event I mean um the number similar to what we similar yeah in fact yeah yeah we historical enrollment yeah anywhere from probably 80 to 60 kind of up and down throughout the years okay thanks thank you all right

020next we have a proclamation and that Proclamation is the month of military child April 2024 would be the month for the military child Wisconsin is home to over 9800 School AG children of military families and so we would like to make that Proclamation for the month of April I would entertain a motion to Proclaim April the month of military children so much motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded all in favor signified by saying I I I I opposed and it has been proclaimed next we have the 2024 academic Excellence scholarship and Technical excellent scholarships and we have that on the screen Andy oh I um one second I can just give me a second here one more right there on work with me all right go

021all right the academic Excellence scholarship pieces and um with that U each spring the the board takes action on the approval of the primary recipients and the alternates and so with that just a reminder the academic uh Excellence uh scholarship and rice like high school is afforded two of those scholar ships um and they are worth $2,250 a year for a total of $99,000 and um they can be at a participating Wisconsin college so can be independent technical W or tribal and with that those are the criteria so in case of a GPI the following criteria are used and then GPA Declaration of attending Wisconsin Bay school you know ACT score and then there's a pointst system for U you know going down after ACT score and so with that the academic Excellence scholarhip recipients

022are Yumi Dennis and jenko Schuler mashi and then the alternate recipients are listed as well um should aumi or jenko choose to uh maybe attend a college out of state or or something like that and so uh those are the recipients and Alternate recipients for could you read alterate recipy the alternate recipients are Daniel clert uh Ben DST Madison Gilbert Ellie Strand and aaic all right congratulations to all of them and then uh for the technical Excellence scholarship uh awarded by the state of Wisconsin uh same amount and so with that $2,250 a year for um up to six semesters for a total of $6,750 and again RC High School is awarded two of those scholarships and uh there are the uh in your board packet the criteria for eligibility um and and the pieces

023that have to be in place there and there's a tiebreaker process as well and why it's not scrolling there sorry all right right and our sorry I can't zoom in right now um there it is our technical Excellence scholarship recipients the primary recipients are Braden young and Tristan Hayes and then our alternate recipients are Ava gargac Rebecca gron and Samantha gron so congratulations to all of these students uh whether they were a primary recipient or an alternate recipient and uh um work through that process of of uh U following up with each of them and if for some reason a primary recipient does not accept that it will move to the next U alternate recipient all right thank you so with that I would entertain a motion to approve the 2024 academic excellent scholarship and

024Technical excellent scholarship recipients and the uh alternates I would move to accept the primary recipients and the alternate recipients to the academic and Technical Excellence scholarships motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded any further discussion seeing none all in favor signify by saying I I I opposed and those have been approved next we have our second reading of the 2023 24 preliminary Staffing report anything you need to add uh the the one change the the Middle School fied position wasn't going to work out as a a part-time position uh so that was increased from a it was like 70% position uh to a full-time position uh just that it sometimes on paper the schedules uh should work out uh but in reality they don't so that's the

025only change um that was made at this time but open it for once we approve approve a staffing report can we add if we wanted to add a counseling position or a social worker position or yep certainly we've done that before so sometimes there are positions that come during the course of a year um know probably the most recent one um thinking Josh and Lori uh you know Middle School um with some coaches or advisers or something added and so um with that we talk about those typically at finance committee meeting and and then bring those um forward on the consent agenda as an addendum to the Staffing report so we wanted to have further discussion on that topic we are not limited by approving the Staffing report that's not not set in stone what

026is the timeline of need to have this Staffing report approved there are some pieces um you know lots of times um in terms of of trying to hire uh additional positions um you know say every year at the elementary level you know classroom teachers I mean we've typically been looking for classroom teachers um every year and and getting this approved so we can get those posted um that's that's not the case this year um for some of those pieces but um yeah usually in terms of if we have positions we need to post or something like that not really adding any positions I mean I guess because in the finance committee and we had discussed some potential uh Savings in regards to our benefits package for specifically in our health care and some of those

027numbers were kind of interesting to me that there could be potentially you know some savings there that we could then look because I think everyone agrees mental health is an issue I don't know what the correct Staffing number is that we we need but I think if there was a choice in my mind that we could adjust some of our some of these benefits that I I think are kind of out of whack comparatively to other districts even around us and you know potentially save one of these positions because even at that last meeting I think it was Mr vuk says I don't really know how we're going to do this and when that is stated it kind of makes makes me a little nervous especially when I see which I hadn't seen before some

028of these benefits that you know kind of fly under the radar and so I guess what I would like is a little time to see what could happen in that regards to to making our benefits more you know reasonable versus you know having a health mental health Staffing issue it doesn't make sense to me personally is there a way we can push that back to the finance committee and have them relook at Cost costing and I think we we asked for that you did yep that's that's why I'm asking what's the deadline for the staffing report to be approved because I would like you know our business manager Victor dross Randy dross and we you know we looked at these things and he's seen those Victor D and other organizations and you know if we

029can that was my question could we just approve the Staffing report and then back into a hire in a position or two or are you uncomfortable with that I guess I'd like to add something to to the discussion too um I mean first I'd like to say to our instructors that you know you really do matter it's not that we're just you know going through and cutting you out wherever we think you're not important you really do matter and we really are concerned about what you do and what our students need so you know please understand we really do care and you really do matter um and I thought um could we maybe before we you know talk about approving this report could we talk a little bit about how we plan to handle that

030shortfall in Staffing and pupil Services I know there's been some discussion about involving Baron County and could we talk about that a little bit Yeah Yeah and with that um and I have reached out we've had some just a couple emails back and forth um but with Stacy Frolic U our offici direct DHHS director um I don't know exactly her title but are there ways um I know there have been some other County programs um and tro County was one of them where they paired together um on a a social worker position and so with that hoping to explore that as well um also exchanging voicemails with Jay Hine I think he's the the Stacy Frolic in trolo County as well and so exploring possibilities there where you can cost share a position yeah that's

031that's one I would feel a lot better I mean if we had something at least a little more in place you know like I know we have a lot of ideas but it just scares me so much to to cut both those positions without anything in place I mean I guess that's just my concern is I get emails and hear about you know the increase in um mental health needs um I'm just like I said before I'm just a little nervous since we don't have anything in place yet so I do like the idea if we can hold off but again I don't know the timeline sure I agree with Miriam this is Bert and also with Steve um I don't think I'm ready to approve that we can easily hold off another two weeks

032um there there maybe some uh some pieces if if we are um if there are any you know layoffs or non-renewals uh people would have to be notified uh by the end of April uh with preliminary notice and then by the middle of May with final notice but with that that's we're not anticipating that's part of the Staffing report though improve approving it yeah yeah so at some point we need to get that done and then back into the other problem we want to yeah we had a handful of of people who were on uh one-year contracts due to lure issues and so those you know were not uh back in the Staffing report but they were one-year contracts and they had resigned um previously for the end of this year anyways and so um

033it ended up being 13 or 14 um certified position as well as some support staff positions so that yeah well if we could look at all those areas then look at some Savings in the health cost area and if you could bring us more details about how Baron County maybe could work with us and how that cost would work you know is that a real savings to us how does that work that would be helpful does the finance committee meet before the next board meeting no so I guess I would so not scheduled to meet at this point but could could meet would I mean approving it and then subject to reviewing the counseling slash social work right position yeah as soon as I I I guess I would move just to see to try

034to move things along to approve the Staffing report subject to reviewing the guidance counselor position and the and or the social work position through the finance [Music] committee I would motion has been made is there a second second and I I have a few comments I'd like to make to please um last year I believe I I got a lot of information from Erica that I looked over and I got we got a lot of information from Josh this year and it was helpful and it informed me about some of the things that that are done and some of the numbers um however I think a year ago I think maybe it was Erica that presented a year ago and I had made a comment then wondering if we could do a um report uh

035involving all the Health Care Professionals and how they might overlap and if we did need to achieve some efficiencies how that might work you know how the scheduling could perhaps be made a little more efficient um and I don't think i' I've seen anything like that yet I've seen data about what the different services do and uh the numbers of students that are served but not how uh the schedules can be meshed and and perhaps overlapped if that's possible I don't know just asking and then um I think comment was made you know a number of positions were added during the pandemic uh for problems caused during the pandemic sometimes by the people cause the problems but anyway they were meant to um be shorttime positions and of course the thinking on the other hand

036is always that well it's shorttime but it's going to be hard to cut these positions so it'll turn into permanent positions so that's a consideration consideration we have to make I don't think we can keep every uh extra Asser position if if we do have to cut a service um maybe somebody else can volunteer that a different department should be cut in St set we should have suggestions that somebody else's Department might more deservedly be cut or something like that um if we do this and duplicating duplicating services are available outside I think Dian or somebody made the comment do we know what the mechanism is for referring kids is it going to be efficient enough um I know there's always a benefit to you know having something on site but obviously I think everyone

037agrees we can't do everything on site either within the school district some Services have to be sent outside um but I guess it would be helpful if possible if there were um a strategy that's demonstrable that says that's workable um and I guess final thing is if we do eliminate the position I think this has been touched on too I mean it's it's not written in stone it could be readded next year for instance right yeah even if maybe a different position were to be cut so I guess those would be my comments I I certainly don't mind reviewing it and and talking it over and trying to get more information I think that's all was very useful I I do appreciate your work in trying to determine you know which staff do need to

038be cut with with um while uh hurting the district the least that we can't all right any other comments I have a motion and a second to approve the Staffing report report for 23 24 school year all in favor sign one second I think he had a that's I was to ask there was a subject to change subject to reviewing the two positions right just uh through the finance committee can yes as well uh not just a pure Staffing report as written right that's what I heard yeah I guess I didn't no yeah it's subject to reviewing the two positions Andor one or both and that was second what's a reasonable timeline Randy to pull it together I mean the information that we're requesting and also us scheduling another finance committee meeting potentially prior to

039our next meeting yeah with that um yeah as as Steve said the finance committee meeting at their last meeting which maybe was last week I guess um you know directed Victor and I to pull together some financial information um just related to benefits and those pieces to um you know in comparisons from area and we'll look at big rivers in heart of the North conference districts um and to see if there would be any potential uh room for movement there and and shifting dollars uh from there to somewhere else and so with that um you know but I think we if we approve it you can proceed as as is yeah they've asked for that to to come back at the May Finance meeting which will be May 8 thir 8th okay thank you I

040just want to keep the district moving forward and still be able to talk about this subject yep y so we have a motion in a second all in favor signify by saying I I I opposed and that motion has been approved next we have our finance committee meeting update uh yeah we met on the 3 all members were present proper notice is given we approved the minutes we went into discussion of a FEMA Grant opportunity uh and FEMA is emergency you know the federal program to basically uh help fund the building of an emergency shelter for the community and with that uh project there would be a FEMA grant that would pay for I believe up to 75 percent of that project um and so there was we have a consultant that handles those grants

041and we're kind of talking with him and we discussed it at the finance committee obviously nothing to move forward with right now but uh we're looking at that Steve just so we're kind of clear with the community when we're building something it's for emergency situation like a tornado yeah but it's also but we that could be a yeah right so it could be a gym it would be what was kind of the drawing in its drawing stages would be next to the current gym there would be two gyms bleacher area so you could have like the gymnastics would have their own spots so they don't have to break down their stuff every after practice and then another area for wrestling Etc and so you know it'd be a great opportunity for you know our our

042high school but uh you know and and underneath it would be this emergency tornado shelter so yes can I ask a question about that too you may um so if we would get involved in something like that with the Fig Grant what are the strings uh the strings are that it has to be tornado proof so no I mean it's you're building it for the emergency situation you know so obviously and then it has to have its own power I believe I'm not an expert on them have their own generators it's not like there's an annual like FEMA addition or anything I mean you have to build it according to the schematics there are certain specs that you have to build a building to to receive that Grant and and uh so yeah the building

043would be built accordingly and then we should be fine okay yeah sounds like a win-win to me well it's potentially but it might not they don't pay 100% of it so we're looking at we actually discussed perhaps you know maybe a a referendum type of situation where we'd actually could do that help pay for this the difference that we would owe on it plus some tech improvements so you know there was kind of a wide ranging conversation and we're not saying to proceed other than to proceed enough with this consultant to say okay you know what does this look like in terms of cost thank you but doesn't the grant cover like two-thirds of it yeah I mean it covers a great amount of it even more 75% so that's why it's kind of an

044interesting opportunity right great opportunity if we can and if we can do two things at once with 75 you know let's say half of it paid for by this Grant and that would be interesting to me and and some of the other members of the committee so Steve I I I think I'm sorry I think I asked this at you before and I'm still not clear on it is is what we're talking about how much need is it versus how much want is it I know there are good things that we can do but there does come with a cost or a cost does come with it and I think concerning Diane's question a lot of times the government will put stipulations on funds like that they give us that are unrelated to the construction

045of the project and the use of the project so I I think I'd be concerned if we had move forward that we want everything absolutely nailed down as to what conditions would be I think in order to qualify for the grant all their stipulations are laid out so we'd have a opportunity to review that prior to approving anything or moving forward so yeah yeah there's it's not an ongoing it's a one-time payment we build it they pay for 75% of it and off we go there's a preliminary phase and and if they you know they'll let you know if they want more information if if they don't come back and ask some additional questions or want information then you're you're not in the running at that point so um it was something to check out

046it was a minimal cost uh to apply for the grant and and so U what we have time to to talk about um options and I think I know Victor it would be late uh late in 2024 I think it was where you you know if you're even if they're even considering you know taking a a second look at yours so okay certainly because they take population density into account and a whole host of other factors as well you never know I mean it could actually save lives of yeah hurricane or not a hurricane the idea of um at least doing some daydreaming about the tech program kind of intrigues me yeah um so anyhow that was that discussion nothing to do with that yet um oh one other comment lost my train of thought

047but especially if we find a way to integrate um aspects of career and Technology education into the rest of the curriculum and motivates more kids to go into the tech program I mean this could fit together with that and hopefully develop into more of a need in the future if we do that because we want more kids going into the tech [Music] area okay and so then we discussed the hilltop addition that they're currently we're under underway right now and how attached to the pool there is going to be six classroom areas two levels and how uh potentially we could actually access uh fund 80 if we had a dedicated music room and potentially a dedicated art room in those buildings which are definitely areas that we are going to have inside a hilltops and

048if we had a dedicated area that could then also be utilized after school with the boys and girls club it could be a win-win in terms of helping fund that particular part of the project that we're moving forward with uh then we discussed our budget as we kind of discussed a little bit today and uh we reviewed you know we are operating at a deficit um and we kind of went through a few things and one area that we kind of talked about was in our handbook some of the benefits that are are in that handbook and how they've been there for a long time and you know perhaps some of those you know those benefits could be adjusted to be more I would say reasonable for the current Marketplace so we're going to continue

049to look at that and hopefully I'll see what we can do with our budget uh but do appreciate all the work that you know Victor and of course Randy and all everyone that's involved on the budget did for that with the with the deficit uh that we're kind of facing hopefully we can get that little short up we approve the bills our next meeting is May 8th and we adjourned any questions thanks Steve thank you for that update next we have our curriculum curriculum committee meeting update yeah we're coming back to you tonight with a second reading on an amendment to the 2425 arik High School academic and career planning guide and if you remember um last time we talked about it involves the world languages and I didn't know Kurt you had anything you

050wanted to explain about the change in here at all if anyone has any questions on it did everyone get a chance to look at it are you clear on it I think I mean nothing changed from the last meeting right no it's just basically dropping the French one offering and great and then phasing it out over the years so we just need ation for approving that we have a motion move to approve that Amendment motion has been made as there a second and we restate that Amendment the uh amendment to remove would be to remove the French one uh class offering I think the amendment is just to approve the well they approve the amendment yeah you're yeah you're you're approving you're approving the amended uh race like High School academic and career planning guide

051but what what it means is by approving um by approving that it means guide the amended guide is does not include French one as an offering for next year that's the purpose for the motion y That's purpose for the amendment of the guide you got all that Colleen motion has been made is there a second I'll second motion has been made and seconded any further discussion I I have an informational question um is there anyone here that can comment about the Rel relative usefulness of Spanish versus French in terms of teaching grammar um helping with English you know there there are languages that that really do that because they specify cases and genders and things like that but I'm I'm unfamiliar and and obviously Spanish is really really useful I can't comment on that that

052sounds like a thesis fil right why don't you check that out and get back to us I'm not a big fan of French how do you say I I don't know if there should we we we I as you yeah you seem kind of French well no any further discussion I I guess it unun question didn't reap any benefits unfortunately we don't seem to have anyone here a sincere question maybe somebody watching will come up with an answer kind of a solid question check your email was a good question it was a great question great question we have a motion y we have a second I second yes we have a motion in a second any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying I I opposed and that amendment has been approved

053next we have the second reading of policy 167 3 32 33 3 43.1 346 352 352.30 12831 with the rule and this is the second reading any questions any comments if not I would entertain a motion to approve I had one comment just so that some of us that aren't on the policy committee we're going to we're reworking policy 187 so when we get to that could you please read that in your packets or whatever and weigh in okay that's not coming it's not in this packet it it will be coming though done it's like you know I'm just giving you the teaser yeah i' look at it coming okay kusky Amendment motion uh do I have a motion to approve so moved motion has been made is there a second a second motion has

054been made and seconded any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying I I that was just B saying yeah and the policies rules and Exhibits have been approved next we are at the information section of our agenda and we have the uh school board results from the spring election they were at your station we had uh those are canvased as as of this afternoon as of this afternoon these have been canvased results so they have been checked over and did I win sorry Bert we came in third but that was still a win buddy congratulations yeah Steve myself and Bert uh were the three that got the most votes to uh all three get reelected next we have our WSB policy correspondent update Phil um fairly brief the um the bill that

055required M and Asian Asian-American instruction K through2 schools was passed and signed by the governor um a bill to regulate the participation of transgender athletes and school sports was vetoed by the governor the referendum results for the April 2nd election well that doesn't directly apply to schools so we'll um pass on that and I mentioned several times that the numbers of our state senate Assembly districts are going to change but we and Rice Lake are still going to be represented by the same people all right that is it any questions thank you for that upcoming meeting schedule we've got uh a couple WSB legal and legislative updates one April 10th and one on May 15th at noon no registration is required for those um there is a new Schoolboard member Gathering which this year we

056do not have any new members so that probably won't be one that is needed um we got a spring workshop on May 8th at cisa 11 registration is required for that and then the that same spring Workshop is available online registration is required for that and then here it is on our schedule the Rice Lake High School graduation Friday May 24th right around the corner um we have two people signed up for that to hand out diplomas so if you can attend any of those please let Colleen know she'll get you registered and with that we will go to our student Representatives where we have Kate Stinson and Mir Randa Garcia Rodriguez welcome hi um I'm Kate sson I'm a senior class ref I'm Miranda Garcia rodrigus the sophomore class rep um so over March

057we ran this March Madness um bracket tournament thing that we did with all the staff um we had in we went on our student section page on Instagram we had polls and people voted on that and then we went all the way to I think the elite date and randomly selected students who signed up to um play this eight staff that made it to the Elite 8 and then so that we that was kind of an assembly we did at the end of the month and then we ran a quick fundraiser for Mrs H's daughter Blair ran buckets around and raised some money for her and then um did a huge um Rock Paper Scissors Shoot game with all the students so that was pretty fun um spring sports are starting up boys baseball just

058had a game over the weekend in MOS atin um they had a game today too softball they have a lot of tournaments usually two games a week track and field has um Invitational Tomorrow Never her Falls all of theirs are still indoor of course and um soccer had three home games last week and pretty sure the record is tied three games one one so no losses yet so that's good um solo emble yeah this Saturday Rice Lake High School hosted solo Ensemble from 8 to five and there was a very good outcome because there was multiple people advancing to the state Festival prom will be hosted on April 20th at turtleback and so we'll post prom that will be hosted at rake high school and there will be games Awards and prizes and music um

059and then we are planning to do a warrior leadership team bonfire we had one last year it was a really good outcome we it was after um home game so usually when we try to get it all scheduled onto a home based game a home soccer game and a home track I think and softball and we threw a big bonfire and there was music and then we had s'mores and it was a super good outcome and one kind of like last bonding thing as like with the warrior leadership team and then we also want to do a game night with um games and food and stuff on the field the turf before the end of the year so yeah so do we know who won the bracket challenge the students or the staff so I

060wasn't there were you there yeah yeah who won the students the students all right yeah I mean it's the same we had last year it's like Mrs or [Laughter] straight all right I see there's some excuses but it still sounds like the students want yeah [Laughter] we thank you for that thank you for being here next we have our district administrator comments yeah just a few other uh upcoming events and they summarized and there there's always a lot of things going on at the high school as well as around the entire District our Elementary Spring concerts so Hilltop I believe tomorrow night has their Elementary Spring Concert uh at the Rice Lake High School auditorium um first grade is at 6 p.m. and third grad is at 700 p.m. and then tainter has their Elementary
