for your care and risk to the children and the entire school district um and this community this is not an easy time for you guys um i'm a school board member i know there are tough times but you really have big challenges here so i applaud you for your dedication to providing the best for everybody in the district i learned and understand that you have had pretty strong opposition to the requirement for masking system-wide i want you to know that there are many people in this area in this community in this district that believe that masking is would be so helpful to the situation that we're in if we could just cooperatively um share the responsibility for trump for controlling the quoted virus so i want i want you to know that should you be

voting on this again and i'm sure you're watching the numbers as probably everybody in this room is um you get it yourself and you get the numbers are high and i get worried if we all get worried about the numbers being quarantined or uh ill please consider masking again and know that you have support in the community for that we're all in this together um so the support is there so i just want you to know that that's why i'm here to say that um um and let's all do what we can to stop the virus so thanks for your work damn and on that will be joel hoffman [Music] hello my name is dan diarman i am the father of five children and one of which is still in the district um seems like

there's two hot button issues tonight having to do with masks or not masking everything related to the pandemic and to the social and emotional learning coach so i'm here to speak about the social and emotional learning coach as a father of five as a former pastor myself i'm just going to say this i also sat as a president of a virtual charter school in a nearby school district when it first started so i can appreciate some of the pressure that you're under having to make decisions that you wish you didn't have to make making decisions that you can't really see a win-win scenario so i can appreciate that the church has failed in the united states of america and because the church has failed families have failed and because families have failed different segments of

the government now feel that it's their own responsibility to pick up the pieces and parents people provide for people and that's that's been slowly happening for a good number of decades in our country and the social and emotional learning coach is just another step down that path what's happening what we need to do is we need to teach families how to raise children we don't need the districts we don't need teachers raising our kids and i know because i was in the position i was in that a lot of times you have parents advocate those responsibilities they see certain parents see school as reaching pre-daycare and they don't take their parenting responsibilities seriously i was 18 when my oldest was born so i went from being a kid in college to a parent in less

than two months from the time i found out my girlfriend was pregnant until the time my oldest was born so believe me i understand sometimes the desire to not want to have to parent but we still have to right so my issue with this is that we are taking the parental role out of the parents hands sometimes the parents are giving it up and i'm admitting that but sometimes we take that responsibility on ourselves because we see a need and we see it's not being met at home it's not being met by the church and we're trying to address that in our church we are trying to address that as best we can i also attend world harvest and um it's a big deal for us there are certain things that god designed the family

to do and there's certain things that god designed government to do and when we literally blur those lines is when we get into trouble if i try to take matters into my own hand legally i'm the one who's going to be arrested not everyone's going to be in jail right if the schools and the government tries to take on the responsibilities of parenting that's not going to go right either because you don't have the same vested interest in a relationship with a child that you've raised their entire life versus somebody who's in your class for a year i understand you can build bonds as coaches as teachers you build bonds with students but it's way different you guys know that use those of you that have your own children you know the difference in your

heart between raising your child and handling someone else's child right okay i also i'm so i'm encouraging you um to vote no for the social and emotional learning coach i don't think that's the direction that we really want to go over the district um and i also just want to say on to a previous speaker not about the golden rule a christianity is the only religion that has the golden rule built into its tenants if it appears in other places it's because it's been borrowed thank you who's next good evening my name is school district it's kind of nice to see some familiar faces former students students former students former students students um i spent most of my career in the field of education started up here as a tech ed and driver's head teacher

worked my way into the front office as an assistant principal giving up my job to randy when i moved to alaska i remember those frantic calls sitting on the steps of homer high school talking with randy about where some files were and said oh gosh it's great that you saved all that stuff i owe you a snake dinner members school board and staff thank you for the jobs you're doing it's selfless service we need you here the community supports you they support the administration and teachers and support staff i hope you all know that i think we can agree on a lot of different things here i think we can all agree that the bears still suck right right i think we can probably agree well who likes wearing a mask a couple majority vast

majority of people don't like wearing masks neither do i i don't want to wear a mask who's ready to be done with colvin okay so we can agree on some things here we're very agreeable sort of folk here so now that we've established that we can't agree on at least a couple of things how do we move forward and get covered behind us it's not going to go away all by itself i can tell you that i i honestly thought we had this thing left this spring after people started getting vaccinated it was kind of nice to go out to a bar in order to drink it and commiserate with friends that i haven't seen for a while but then came the delta variant followed by an increasing hesitancy on the part of sun to

get vaccinated we're a mask and a social distance so here we are again it's like deja vu dying every day i see you or it's packed in capacity and those who want or need care with other conditions other than cobalt being unable to receive that medical attention because unvaccinated coded patients are taking up possible beds we need to do something because like i said it's not going to go away on its own despite being annoying and scratchy at times wearing a mask while in a crowded setting like a classroom isn't really all that isn't really asking all that much to help to help spread the or slow the spread of coping lots of kids will get cold and not even know they have it or will experience mild symptoms the problem with that is that

children even though unknowingly they'll be spreading the virus to others adults who may experience more serious consequences and reactions and who will they affect parents grandparents aunts and uncles teachers principals custodians bus drivers food service workers i'm trying to wrap up a second career as a driver's education instructor i was supposed to finish before the start of the school year however my last two drivers both have coveted issues a young lady her father tested positive the weekend before and she didn't tell me that until i was in the car with her she says that her brother's experiencing symptoms and is getting tested and unfortunately as soon as i dropped her off at the front of cameron high school her mom calls and said well her brother just tested positive so now she's in quarantine and

i put myself in a quick quarantine for 24 hours until i worked with marshall's staff luckily she tested negative but now her driving partner has coveted issues as being tested and quarantined so i haven't finished these last two drivers from cameron because they've had issues we need to do something i want to wrap up here by letting the board members know a majority of this community supports your decision making it encourages you to keep masks a mask mandate on the table as conditions change and further action is deemed appropriate to protect our students and those that interact or and those that they interact with including ourselves thank you much have a good meeting i'm going to go home and grab some shout out all right that is the end of our appearance section we move

into the approval of the regular session media minutes from monday august 23rd will i have the option to approve those minutes um next we have our consent agenda where we have our monthly budget for the four bills we have three employment resignations and a few recommendations so with that i would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda that has been that has been presented to approve the consent that janet is there any further discussion seeing none all in favor signify by saying i post and the consent agenda has been approved next we have our report section we have the right secondary school district awards for the 21 2023 mental health grant randy yes i wanted to talk about that and so uh the state of wisconsin sets aside money funds on an annual basis

to in the form of grants that districts apply for in the in the area of mental health and so for uh this year's grant cycle the mental health grant cycle we had our grant team of sue stroff chris christopherson amanda brown nicole weinstock joshua mori and katie mashinsky is a part of that team and then you also have to have grant reviewers who included amanda kuhn erica spear and amber redlich and it was awesome because our grant uh basically everything we asked for we were awarded and so that was outstanding so almost 54 and with that it doesn't cover all of these things but these are some of the pieces from the 2019-2021 grant cycle so the things we have added in meeting the health the mental health needs of students in the rice lake

area school district we have a mental health navigator position that is amanda brown and so helping families navigate the sometimes incredibly complex world of of obtaining mental health services for students development of those referral pathways and an additional of community partners where we allow outside agencies that provide services to students instead of maybe parents coming and checking a student out of school for an appointment those providers come to the school district and we allow them to provide those services their mental health practitioner position that was new last year youth mental health first aid training and so ensuring all of our staff members are trained in the in the basic basics basics of youth mental health first aid social emotional screeners again using those to help meet the needs of students and those school-based mental health

therapy spaces creating private spaces where you know when those people come to provide those services it's discrete it's private and they're able to do that in an appropriate way some of the goals the first goal by june of 22 middle school and high school act mosaic climate data will increase by five percent in each of the three areas surveyed so i can see where it was at and where the goal is by next year so uh at the middle school level i enjoy spending time with adults at school hoping to get that up to 84 percent of students saying yeah i enjoy spending time with adults at school adults at school know much about me and if i were stressed out the adults in school would make it better at the high school level i

enjoy spending time with adults at school adults at school know much about me and the same thing if i were stressed out at if i were stressed out the adults at school would make it better and so those are the goals for this coming year really yes um for those previous data points was that seventh grade in middle school and in a particular grade in the high school or was it all the students can you help me out um yeah that's what i thought thank you and so those uh first smart goal was actually some of the acting action steps um uh the required universal mental health literacy professional development for all staff and administrators so that was a video put together by katie michinski our mental health practitioner and staff members participate participated in

that in the back to school in services continue again training all staff and youth mental health first aid uh developing this would be for next year some self-paced trauma-informed practices professional development for um you know on a volunteer basis for staff members and then those screeners uh that we um use uh to get that data that i talked about in the previous slide so continuing uh with smart goal number two uh increase the number of students who access at least one session of school-based mental health services by uh by next year and some of those things um it's access and helping um i know some families said you know we don't have transportation uh over the summer to be able to access those services you know what will help provide that um the case management

software um implementing that over the course of the next year and then we remodeled some spaces again as i talked about if either providers are coming to the school to provide those services or if our katie our own mental health therapist is providing the services we want a place that's private and discreet and where students can receive those services and so those are some of the pieces in place there and then this last slide i'm not going to read through all of these things but the grant process and just some of the pieces there providing that pd like i talked about it in service uh youth mental health first aid and making sure our staff have just a basic introductory understanding of that those screening pieces um mental health spaces and then you'll hear more

in a mid-year report to you as a board in january on progress on all of those pieces that's a part of the grant process as well with any grant it's okay here's the funding for that grant but then here are the things you need to do to meet the requirements of that grant and so uh in january you'll get a mid-mid year report on all of those pieces so those are the things i want and a part of the requirement of the grant process as well is sharing um this with you as a board of education i'd like to thank sue and the staff that worked on that grant and great job so thank you for that anybody else have any questions or comments on smartphone number two the increased access by 10 is that

to help us meet um unmet students who are looking for services yeah yes you know each and every spring we get numbers who was looking to do good so to help us meet that exactly like i know um i can't quote it off the top of my head um but in the 1920 i think there were 60 some requests for services i know last year that had doubled on the referrals for mental health services to roughly 125 and you know most of those students are able to get services in some way shape or form but not everyone and so uh when that's uh when that's a demonstrated need we want to help families and students be able to access those services uh so this is not necessarily an update it's an action item from last

time um now our last meeting i told you that the choir director at the high school franco has proposed to take our high school choir to chicago over spring break in march of 22. uh that will include a performance of old town a clinic at the vanderbilt college of music also some fun they're going to see the blue man group go to shed aquarium and visit the museum of science industry um we're bringing it forward tonight for the board to approve the trip but there are two special things that mrs franklin make sure i tell you about the first is a new um benefits as a result of what's been happening the last 18 months um this provider the person who's running a tour the company then they now offer something called assurance an insurance

program it's this idea that if for any reason our choir director deemed it necessary to cancel within 91 days or more before the trip um they would get a full refund at all the cost so the insurance program is in place and i believe the insurance program even may offer a refund after 90 days but they'll lose some of the money like for part of being injured but that's where they bought tickets so the insurance program is included in the cost for the students it's not i think extra cost per student is 865. the other thing that would be an additional cost but it's not huge is parents can buy an insurance program for their students trip should the parents choose to cancel for any reason and that's a term used by the company if

the parents choose to cancel their students for any reason they would get looks to be about 75 of the cost back so there are two new benefits this year because of the pandemic number one mrs franco can cancel the trigger that's seen necessary we're changing situations and number two parents can invest in insurance program for their students so we are looking for board approval tonight for this trip uh in roger 22. so i'll entertain a motion to approve the choir trap to chicago abortion has been made as our senate motion has been made and seconded is going to be further discussion scene one all in favor signify by saying aye all right post and that trip has been approved next we have our finance committee meeting update okay we met wednesday september 8th all member

for president we approved the minutes our first item was the middle school is requesting additional track and volleyball coaching assistant coaching positions due to the numbers so we're recommending approval of that on those two positions uh we then discuss the budget result our both budget results and it appears that we were under budget and so uh the auditors are finalizing our report to verify and we will get an update when that is complete additionally we've discussed the district's debt one week levy and uh we will look at that at our october finance committee for final approval i'll likely say anything area uh we did discuss the clinic transition from a caregiver to every side and you know when these things happen sometimes there's some challenges but uh you know hopefully we're working through those with

our staff and uh we do but still believe that the ever side on our provider is going to be an operator when it gets finalized and so on we're just working through those those issues primarily with medical records we then discussed the aquatic center and community center and it does look this is where we would build classrooms a top and pass them to a pool a new pool and uh the way the numbers are looking it looks to be feasible based upon current commitments that we've had from uh businesses and individuals that are gonna basically go into a non-profit that will own in uh the pool and uh that was very positive and uh we then sent it to the building or it we approve the bills and center next meeting days for the 7th

of october 8 30 in the morning if you have any questions on that report all right then the other item under that group is that social and emotional learning coach position right will you leave somebody in that account the other two action items oh yes we should thank you so i'm going to entertain abortion to approve those two assistant coach positions sure question has been made in second if there's any further discussion saying none all in favor and those two positions have been approved okay sure uh the job description for um the sel coach of the job summary is the social and emotional learning coach provides coaching and technical support to classroom teachers that is informed by the teaching practice observation tool the teapot i'll talk a little bit about that in a minute and

other evidence-based practices and tools in order to implement pyramid model-wide practices that lead to positive outcomes for children upon completion of required trainings and successful experiments with pyramid model internal coaching the sel coach will in the future also also support staff as an external behavioral coach as part of the district's multi-level system of support some of the essential job functions establish and maintain positive trusting relationships with children staff families administrators community members stay current on research and best practices in social and emotional learning reliably utilize evidence-based tools and frameworks to guide professional development and coaching of classroom teachers and other staff conduct practice based coaching sessions for individual classrooms that include planning that include planning shared goals and action planning steps focused observation reflection and feedback create and provide ongoing high quality professional development using

various delivery models provides small group and individual services to students as needed assist in the development of systems to ensure the delivery of tier three supports to children with challenging behavior facilitate data collection and analysis to guide teens with database decision making contribute to the short and long-term planning of social and emotional learning and positive behavioral interventions and supports coordinate resources in all school buildings to to promote and support evidence-based practices and frameworks in collaboration with school staff develop educational workshops open houses communications for parents and the community to build knowledge of and investment in evidence-based strategies that lead to positive outcomes for children participate in various building level and district-wide teams and attend relevant trainings as required and then just the other ancillary job functions other tasks assigned required qualifications uh minimum bachelor's degree

three years experience those basic pieces some preferred qualifications knowledge skills and abilities work environment physical requirements uh just the basics that are part of every job description uh i mentioned the teapot in there so the teapot is a teaching pyramid observation tool this is mainly for preschool and kindergarten classes but this is a coaching um something that this person would provide coaching around so the first one is schedules routines and activities um there's a number of indicators teacher has a posted classroom schedule of daily activities posted schedule is at children's eye level and includes visual representation of daily activities teacher directed activities are 20 minutes or shorter both large and small group activities occur during the observation teacher reviews and posted schedule with children teacher reviews the posted schedule of children and refers to it

throughout the observation teacher structures activities so that there's a clear beginning middle and end the balance of child directed and teacher-directed activities occur during the observation if needed the teacher prepares children when changes are going to occur within the posted schedule a teacher only continues with a specific teacher directed activity when the majority of children are actively engaged and interested uh then the second piece is transitions between activities so you know if we're going to go from the classroom and get ready for lunch or we're in the classroom and we're working on literacy and we're going to transition to a different subject area a teacher supports children's transitions whole class warnings are provided prior to the majority of transitions teacher has transition strategies that ensure children are actively engaged in the transitions teacher explicitly teaches

children the steps and expectations of transitions a teacher provides positive descriptive feedback to children who engage in a transition appropriately instruction to begin the transition is provided to a child in an individualized way teacher effectively guides individual children who need extra support during the transitions and during transitions the majority of children are actively engaged including children who are waiting for the next activity the last part is just any red flags kind of to be looking for so the majority of the day is spent in teacher-directed activities and that would be a red flag transitions are more often chaotic than not uh teacher talk to children is primarily giving directions telling children what to do reprimanding children during group activities many children are not engaged um teachers are not prepared for activities before the children arrive

at the activity there's about 10 more i'm not going to read through all of these just for the sake of time but um you know uh you know is the teacher reprimanding or admonishing children for um for their actions teacher gives direction to all children the same way without giving additional help to children who need more support a teacher tells children mostly what not to do rather than what to do learning centers do not have clear boundaries uh teacher reports asking for the removal of children with persistent challenging behavior from the classroom or program and so those and then and then some other just key practices that schedules routines and activities transitions uh teachers engage in supportive conversations with children promoting student engagement providing directions collaborative teaming teaching behavioral expectations teaching social skills and competencies

teaching friendship skills teaching children to problem-solve interventions for children with persistent challenging behavior connecting with families supporting family use of the pyramid model practices so a pyramid model is basically at the last at the last meeting i talked about how we use the warrior way to teach expectations how to be safe respectful responsible in all environments pyramid model is basically an elementary principle to chime and if you need to a pyramid model is basically that but for our littlest ones and the other part one gentleman i i think daniel talked about the the parenting aspect of things and that's a lot of what this is when you know students are throwing temper tantrums or things like that um our staff members are saying we need help with how to do this we're working with you

know trying to trying to teach our kids to be literate and and be able to do math and social studies and science when we're faced with some of these challenging behaviors we need to know how to do that another piece is so there's a behavioral component another piece would include like zones of regulation so when you talk about the emotional part um red yellow green um same things i've heard our baseball coaches kind of talk about it this spring from from a different coaching standpoint but it made me think of it so um if a student is not having a great day and they're red you know they're they're off and they're struggling all right can they recognize that then what's it going to take you to get to yellow what's it going to take

you to get to green um you know if the students in yellow saying uh kind of yeah doing okay what's it gonna take um to get you to green so that specifically is called zones of regulation red yellow green and it's something our teachers have been working on for a few years sorry to put you on the spot ladies but did i anything else you would add to that in any way shape or form okay all right one for clarification event a little for me but whatever the people that are here you talk about tier three and i'm assuming that reference is back then to the pbis system where we got tier one tier two tier three could you briefly you better talk about that because you said three but i'm assuming the things that

you were talking about sounded a lot like one and two as well you bet so the the three tiers and we talk about it i'll start with it from an act of three tears three tiers i'll start from an academic side so on the academic side if you think of a triangle and divide it into kind of three three sections um the bottom layer we call uh the universal level so it's something everybody gets so i'm an old high school math teacher um the you know the universal level was the instruction i gave to every student in the class everybody had that same level of instruction um tier two is maybe for students that need a little more than that now i'll jump to back to the elementary level um you know maybe a student

is struggling a little bit but just needs a little extra help whether that be during class or maybe there's some some extra help outside of class a little bit of tutoring on the side not everybody needs it but maybe some students need it tier three is when okay student has some maybe some significant academic needs in an area and then we say okay maybe they need to work with a reading interventionist or they need to work with a math interventionist so tier one two three tier one is universal that's what everybody gets tier two maybe some students need some extra help and then tier three is maybe just a few students need maybe quite a bit of extra help and so when we talk about that from an academic standpoint that's what we talk about

from from uh from this lens uh from the sel side of things again the universal level what does every student get and those are things like for instance our school counselors have been doing for years you know the lessons they come in and teach our students you know those basic components that every student gets when i talk about zones of regulation and that's zones regulation helped me out as far as grade levels do we usually we've been doing that in kindergarten through k4 okay so we talked about that throughout all the elementary level you know the red yellow green i talked about and looking at that and saying okay can you recognize where you're at and maybe what you need to do to get to green and so that would be a universal piece as

well maybe some students need a little more intensive intervention with that and so maybe that's working with another aide or another teacher to work on some specific skills i really need help with and my anger gets the best of me and i maybe zones of regulation isn't doing it for me i need more than that and so someone works with them on that tier three could be in tier three on the academic side you know typically means maybe a student that needs special services and tier three on this side could be as well you know maybe a student that needs a special education services as well but i'm glad you asked for clarification gary for everyone so universal levels or tier one is what everybody gets tier two whether we're talking academics or anything is

maybe what some students need to to help them get to where they need to be tier three is maybe just a few students and usually that comes in there maybe students need a 504 or individualized educational plan those pieces so based on the job description how much time is the individual going to be spending training and assisting staff versus direct contact with students i mean we've had the position it was terry brown retired um this year and as she was in it more as an aide and when we posted the position it was posted then more as a teacher position um terry worked primarily again i'm gonna ask you ladies for help um terry worked mainly with adults coaching adults and it was okay say i've got a student that's struggling it's we didn't want

her to rush in and save the day it was okay help me all right what teach me what to do as a classroom teacher or help me learn how to do that on my own i don't i don't need you to fix it i need to help build my skills so that i can deal with that um on a regular basis and again one gentleman said yeah it's whether or not we we want to call it that that's there's some parenting aspects to it as well um and just in general um some students are more ready at a given time than another um you know i'll go back to maybe in an old math teacher um you know every high school freshman should take algebra 1. some students are ready for eligible as a freshman

and some are not and so when we think about this piece as well is every child ready for kindergarten just because they're five some are and some aren't and so for maybe those that aren't they need some additional help and uh you know it can be a source of frustration for our staff as well like i said i'll just stick with kindergarten i'm a kindergarten teacher i want all of my kids at a at a certain level in reading by the end of the year and if students struggle with behaviors or they struggle with regulating emotions or they struggle with social interactions um that's that's going to hinder that and so that's where this comes from and and i i yeah that's where we're at so so i remember from a finance meeting and other

committee members is that basically the request that was made for this position was essentially to support our teachers so that when kids need extra help it's not detracting from what you call the tier one students it's it's providing our teachers the opportunity to teach the students in the classroom through this supportive position so that i mean my understanding that's right uh i think that's a good thing and i am i i do have a concern as regarding the counseling aspect of it sure i guess it to all the interested parties in this it doesn't necessarily come through in the job description but to what extent would this position be at all responsible for counseling regarding gender or crt issues nothing that's not that's not their role and so we're focused on social skills um emotional

skills um and and really um when you think about for a while i'm not proud to say it but for a while when i was first at the elementary level um i'll go back to kindergarten we took away um or i'm not gonna say we i'm i'm just gonna say playsets and things like that were taken out of the kindergarten classroom um you know kitchen sets or building blocks and not all of it but some of those things were taken out of our kindergarten classrooms because it was felt we needed to spend more time on academics and what we know and i'll just say we ended up putting those things back because we know students learn through especially at that age socialization and so playing you know restaurants and all of those things they learn

a lot of skills through socialization and we have you know too many students that have too many deficiencies in those areas and so um focusing on those things and again controlling of emotions we unfortunately have too many students that you know aren't able to you know have appropriate emotional control and we have to do something about that or we have to work with that we work with all students as they come to us and it can be we have small class sizes in our elementary classrooms but it can be incredibly frustrating for teachers um to work through those things and figure out all of that on their own we unfortunately live in a different world than we did 20 25 years ago and uh you know i'll come back to as the gentleman said parenting

whether we want to do it or not we're teaching some of those skills so i can just have one call that's what i thought the position was and the responsibility of this um in the event that a student were to come with concerns or needs regarding those two issues do we not have out of school district opportunities that we can refer them to for that help certainly and our school counselors would be people who are trained in those areas would be a decent place to start um but then yes we have uh and like i said we were just talking about the mental health grant we have people who are able to come into the schools uh to talk to meet with students if that goes through when i talk about we partner with outside

agencies that are able to come into the schools that goes through a family's insurance it's the same thing as if they would check a child out and go to an appointment we just provide a space for them to come that's but then we do have a mental health therapist of our own that was a great move made two years ago or to have in place uh for last year uh never know in the future maybe adding a second one with that but yes we do have options when it when it comes to that we found out very soon thanks to the screeners at the district that he had delays and so with the years of therapy speech therapy occupational therapy surgeries we finally after three years got him up to be age-appropriate but when he

started school what we found out was his social and emotional skills with the skills that still wasn't able to catch up so um it really hits home for me because it's like i do this for a living and i work with my kids every single day on how to be a good human and you know anybody that's a big emotion here's how we deal with that let's name it let's frame it let's tame it you know so i'm constantly working with my kid on what's appropriate so i want to just let you know know that it's not just bad parents that aren't teaching their kids emotions or social skills it's people that are educated in the field there's children with legit skill deficiencies and my kid isn't with me for eight hours out of the

day and so it's like i would love for the community to wrap around my kid when he's having a big moment and be like hey buddy looks like you're mad let's tame it you know what you can do instead of hitting somebody this is what you can do you can calm down and so over the years we've worked with this teacher on color scales and things and saying you know he's on the verge of getting kicked out of classrooms like hey do you think we could do a behavior chart and so preemptively we're working with teachers and saying look i know these are his issues i know his issues and his triggers i work on it you're with them for eight hours can we come together on the same plan so it's not about like

parents not parenting your kids it's about my kid has a deficit you're with him for eight hours when he has those big moments or weird feelings somebody wrap around them and help them so i just i get very passionate about it because it's like that's my kid and i'm a good parent and so it's like i i take it very personally when it's we're talking about and we're blaring the line between critical race theory and not parenting this life that's my kid please love on him teachers parents principals neighbors and church members that's that's our neighbor so i think it's all of our responsibility and if it's happening in schools when you're with my kid get down on his level and talk to him because i think that's all of our jobs i was talking

with a gentleman today he couldn't be here tonight but had some concerns you know similar concerns as voiced by several people here tonight um and said you know there were going to be some people who were kind of keeping tabs on on this on this piece and watching things and i said that's wonderful come on in we love to show you what we're doing show you what's happening in classrooms we want people to feel comfortable about what's going on and we're can be open and transparent about that we're not trying to hide anything from anyone but it's about as you said meeting the needs of students and we have a lot of students who have a lot of needs we need help and preemptively teaching them skills that they don't have i believe very strongly

in social emotional learning i would believe in my formal role and i can tell you it's a skill deficit that kids have and you know it's we gotta teach them whether they're learning it from their parents or not or whether they're it's like i feel like we have to grow those young community members and if we've got them in our building and in our doors and they're having a moment where they're struggling it's you know whether you're teaching them math or whether you're teaching them how to solve their big feelings i think it's our job other questions comments randy social emotional learning is not some term we created in the district right dpi wisconsin vpn has standards that we follow correct so similar to the way arounds and i'm a huge fan of our instructional

coaches in this district they do outstanding work so to me i see this as another tool for our staff to help them improve their construction and their work with that students like your son and so the person that we hire in this position their job would be to make sure our instructors are helping students achieve those outcomes as set by wisconsin dpi for a social martial art that is available on the w lines so on the big night website yes just like our english curriculum all of that is set by dpi and that's what we call it i was looking at those competencies today yeah any other questions or comments point of inquiry if not this is a action item so with that to prove the social and emotional learning coach so motion has been

made as their decided second motion has been made and seconded is there any further discussion i'm assuming that what we talked about as far as you know the calculator and all that and direct supervisors making sure that those lines aren't blurred okay any other comments discussion seeing none emotion has been made incentive to approve that position all in favor signify by saying i host and that position has been approved so then we have a applicant that was recommended by our administrators and i would entertain a motion to approve that individual for that position function has been made as their ascendant okay motion has been made and segmented any further discussion it was a change to the staffing report because mrs brown was an aide she wasn't a certified teacher and so the reason you're changing

it is because technically it's an amendment to the staffing report um that's why otherwise it would have been on the any other discussion see now we do have a motion and a second on the table to prove that uh individual all in favor say about it by saying aye aye opposed she has been approved next on the agenda we have the wellness and grounds committee meeting update we met tonight at the end of this meeting we talked about the aquatic center which we already occurred about our committee was also in favor of keeping things moving forward with that we've got an update on the conservancy property randy will be meeting with mr olsen later this week and having some discussion with him and then from there we will uh look at that how we move

forward with that property and getting our school forest up and running and then we talked about uh that update on all of our summer projects of course this building here we've just about completed that uh one part of sidewalk that needs to be done which should be done at this week and we have parts of our property that needed some topsoil for onion spread out grassy put down this fall and that they hope to have done before next week is completed and then on our wall building the old administration building we did get it far enough along we did have students in there on the first day of school which was a great uh project to get completed to that point [Music] not sure if they were going to be able to get get it

done but they didn't uh get it basically done there's a few things that they still have to do but for the most part that building is done question mark well my question is just a reminder that uh the chamber just put out that we're gonna have open files for the community of the 24th february night that would be really great yeah that's a big night a flyer went out to all families last week with with all of our flyers on everything so there will be a tour for this building and our new wild building other projects that got done this summer we've got the north section of the parking lot at the high school and ground up and redone and the rest of the parking lot on the south side and behind the building at

the high school middle school the blacktops were chip sealed so and then the lines repainted so those have all been updated and maintained we talked about our solar project high school middle school or online so there are times that we've been seeing the meter turn backwards as we're generating electricity off off of the sun so that that's kind of neat to see tainter is getting close to being more to being able to go online and thought that before this week was done that should also be online so we should be functioning at all three locations with the solar project and then we also heard that the county was able to give us another month before we had to be out of the red cedar building so we will be out of there before the month

of september is over so we thank the comedy for being gracious enough to give us an extra month to make sure we got everything out nice orderly fashion we did not set another meeting date we will uh see how the conversation goes with mr olsen and then we will set another date based off of that yeah um so um we're actually we have um uh [Music] gauge so those once we get those things online um we'll be able to actually see the data and be able to see some of that um and theoretically if we go and stand in front of the leader and look at it and wait for it to do that but we do all we will have an eph system that will measure electricity usage um and we'll have some interfaces

with the inverters that are out there to be able to see how much energy's being generated so um i don't know if i can tell you exactly i'll have to evaluate that a little more so we can actually determine at what point are we feeding back into the gridding when we aren't but we're gonna know how much energy we generated by the rate how much overall energy we're using in our buildings and you need to be able to determine so does it say a part of this was being able to use this as an educational component as well i know there are several staff members who are very excited to be able to use that in terms of looking at science math lessons we have just you know we get a lot of equipment donated

to the district so we had 150 watts for the panels donated through the coolier foundation and was kind of wisconsin removal energy and then we also had the e-gauges donated to us with the caveat that we would we would do an energy competition in the school district so in the spring semester it would be an energy competition between buildings to see how much energy they can save and uh and try to evaluate you know what what actually does help you save energy intestines and so on so we kind of think that open we'll also discuss how the solar project has been contained do you know if anybody's looking at carbon offsets or like what we're saving by not using also energy i don't know for sure well i i can tell you that i could

get to that information and working with uh the legacy solar that we've worked with we could get to that information it hasn't been the probably the primary focus is trying to get the job done and that's been a little bit of a trip because of all the shipping issues and supply chain and all that stuff that i think all of us have experienced through our last few months here going on so we're we were supposed to have these panels that actually had functioning in june but they were sitting in the pacific ocean waiting for a court for probably three four months just one final question is it true this went live over the holiday weekend some of them i just want to say thank you to the staff that have them yeah for bringing up

all the time that was marty helgeson i think was a big chunk of that on the sunday of labor day weekend yeah um because yeah this whole time it came online it was the problem there was it was we had shut down power of the district which i mean high school shut down the entire network which then unfortunately for marty's sake that sometimes technology agrees with they sometimes it doesn't well it did at this time and so he lost basically i guess the term out it's out of my league but basically the server's kind of like from a standpoint of the operating system whatever something like that so that he had to like rebuild and become functions we spent hours a lot of time so functioning so any other questions right thanks pat all right

next we have the second reading of policy 410 and policy one turns over one and 141. anybody have any comments questions concerns saying none i've entertained a motion to approve those two policies so most attempted names are second options any further discussion seeing none all in favor supervisor say hi legislative video update on wednesday the 15th region one meeting coming up in the 29th of september that is up in store this year and then our webinar on october 7th with administrative contracts online regional meeting the 27th legislative conference november 6th and the state convention january 19th through the 21st if you can attend any of those please let colleen know registration is required for each and every one of those that we talked about so please let our help get you registered for those with

that any board member suggestions or recommendations to be brought to the board at this time all right yeah i was asked to share um i'll just put them up on the screen here just kind of where covered numbers are at um at this point and so i'll make this just as big as i can for everyone's benefit if they want uh all right this was as of june 4th so this was basically for the 2021 school year uh we ended up having you know 205 total positive student cases and 74 staff cases as of last week as far as the beginning of the year and i don't you know there were no well i guess i was at the very end of the year some quarantines um as of last week as i put in

the update that went off to families we have 10 active or as of last friday 10 active student cases one active staff cases those were three question marks there but they were zeros at the time and then you can see where where we had some students quarantined i was also asked to share i put in my update to families um barron county public health um as defined by state statute um handles the the uh tracing oversees the tracing process and ultimately uh has the final determination and in terms of if if there are quarantines or not uh there's three options in that so there's the 14 the 10 and the seven uh with the negative tests on day six or seven and we we go with any of those options again someone who's fully backslash

i didn't put this in my communication i had a handful of questions over the weekend and it's just i was in a hurry on friday and didn't put it in there but someone who is fully vaccinated if they're close contact and if they're not symptomatic they do not need to quarantine and that will go for students or staff and these other pieces this is from the mara county public health website so anybody could go there and see those pieces i'm not going to go it was a three-page document i'm not going to go through all of that but that's what i wanted to share with you um at this point so you can see those pieces any questions all right thanks for that update and then i will entertain a motion to convene in a

closed session pursuant to wisconsin statutes 19.851 c considering employment promotion compensation performance evaluation and 19.851 f considering financial medical social personal histories so i'm verifying a motion to go into closed session second hand the main second roll call for you it's richard this is turner yes yes extreme yeah this is fisher yes yeah [Music] all right i'm going to stop streaming you
