i feel that's what they say yeah originally it was supposed to be by now but i think hello um no [Music] it wasn't when we started our last meeting good okay oh there we go um all right it is seven o'clock i will call the monday june 14th regular board meeting to order roll call please okay um this is turner here mr stream here this is fisher okay uh mr coleman here here johnson here and pat can you tell us if a proper notice was given for this certainly please meeting advised that public notice of this meeting required by sections and 65.90 thank you proper notice was given for this meeting we now are at the appearance section anybody wants to approach the board and go to the podium okay right here that's the spot
for tonight my name is eli schultz for those of you don't know my two kids in the rice lake school district i think the last time i spoke in marshawn tonight yeah okay so last time i talked i mentioned a little bit about principal race theory in the 1619 project at that at that point randy kind of pointed me in the right direction and said well if you want to review some of the curriculum you know take a look at it and see what's going on i feel i guess incumbent upon me to help share this information with you in case you don't already know about it i did have the opportunity to review some of the curriculum and uh these are some of the things i found in particular the social sciences social sciences
section and in the history and arizona team section listed as number one not number three and ten number one i found the first thing in the curriculum is historically marginalized groups i.e groups defined by race gender ethnicity language ability sexual orientation family background and or family income that was interesting and like that's that's kind of odd that's not the usual kind of thing you see so after being a little bit further uh i uncovered something that this particular excerpt in the state of wisconsin is something called problem called from leading for equity equity should be like a red play buzzword to anybody in the school district we're not talking about equality or equal opportunity talking about equal outcome no matter what the circumstances okay so i dug into this leaving for equity this is the
manual here anybody see how many of you have seen this before but this is basically a very thinly veiled trojan horse for critical race there in the 16th it's all over the news if you guys haven't heard about it i would look it up this is the most racist piece of garbage that i have ever read and i can't believe it's in our school system okay just to highlight a little bit of what's in here what's in this book that i found is number one in our curriculum in the social sciences i think we're walking because first of all we have a lot of great teachers we have a lot of patriotic teachers do a really good job i think they look the other way on some of this stuff but it is in there
this is exactly the kind of anti-american sediment that i was talking about earlier this is the same wolf social justice rhetoric that the neo-marxism burned our cities to the ground murdered innocent americans preachable it's kind of like these people want to teach our children of america as a horrible racist place they want to teach our children to judge one another based on their race or their identity i don't know when i was in school we learned that people should judge based on the content of their character not the color of their skin isn't the rice lake school model that tariff accounts these people do not want equality and equal opportunity they seem to demonize white children make them feel guilty because of their race they want to teach our minority children they are oppressed and
they should automatically be elevated and have success only based on the color of their skin or social economic status rather than merit effort or integrity these so-called educators are the most racist people of all instead of featuring our children entitlement we should be teaching our children personal responsibility that we rise and fall by our own hand and that their success depends on them instead this teaches our children that everyone is now a victim when i was in school we learned that america was the land of opportunity for all who have the church you've got one minute left for your time yep and that's fine and in closing i'd like to say that when i was when i was a young man i watched tom brands i don't know if anybody in the world know tom
brands is but he's an olympic gold medalist and he stood on the podium on the wildlife sports during his interview the announcer came up to and said tom uh you really deserve that gold medal that you just won and somebody said stuck with me to this day he said you only get what you earned you don't deserve anything i think that's kind of the attitude you have to have so that's all i have for you tonight thank you anyone else hi my name is taylor scholes and all i want to talk about hi my name is taylor scholz um i'm a student at racing high school i will be a senior coming up and i have been elected by the majority of my peers graduating student body at riceland high school which is an amazing
honor and all i want to say tonight is that i cannot wait to work with the school along with you to help me improve and fix problems with school to bring my private school and thank you but first i would like to just comment on what elijah said [Music] is [Music] this is actually what i forgot to do last time and this is a fun thing um my friend like i said he was graduated and a couple weeks before graduation he received this mail from his sister [Music] this she had her sixth grade students write to themselves at graduation and it was just the coolest thing i wanted i was already [Music] and i just think [Music] so i wanted to make sure [Music] um thank you for sharing anyone else all right we will
move on i would entertain a motion to approve our regular session meeting minutes from may 24th motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded there's any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying aye opposed the minutes have been approved next we have our consent agenda where we have our monthly budget our board bills we have six employment resignations and five employment recommendations with that i would entertain a motion to approve our oh yeah that's that is part of it so before we go in to approve the consent agenda randy has one thing he wants to add so in your pack you saw the wi-80 senior high membership report for grades 1912-2122 school year and it has really the sports we've participated in for the last
number of years new for next year is uh for girls wrestling there is going to be an individual state tournament only the first time and so knowing that had a question we ran across it late last week saying that if you potentially may have girls competing in that you need to mark wrestling under goals of sports so call them w-i-a-a if they said well you couldn't modify this form electronically and so what they said to do was go ahead and mark girls wrestling and so in the packet that kevin and abby will sign it is smart girl wrestling as well but we were not able to edit that on your forum so i just wanted to make sure [Music] with that i would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda motion has been made
is there a second sorry motion has been made and seconded is there any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying i opposed and the consent agenda has been approved next we have our student recognition drawing for the chromebook in here we have all of the names of all of the students that were recipients of that all right and the winner is elliot karpowicz at tainter he was a second grader so congratulations to elliot and you'll be able to come to the um new board office and pick the chromebook up okay then we'll get into our report section we'll get started with the first reading of the rice lake middle school handbook student handbook nate we really don't have any changes to the handbook we put out some of the copic language i've
been putting and instead of it just being a month-long uh area of focus our advisor for that decided that they'd like to do it throughout the school year to try and partner with others and so you changed the description a little bit more and what uh especially with the grading piece as we move pretty much everybody any questions so this is a first reading it'll be brought back to the board for a second reading and approval so if you do as you go through it and and have any questions please let randy know and you can get the answers or or make some changes next we have the rice lake area school district employee handbook this is the second reading of the employee handbook and uh randy anything you want to add to that i'd
just like to talk about a couple of changes you know we were scheduled to have a second meeting at the last board meeting but there were a couple of changes that came from the compensation committee so they came through the compensation committee so we talked about those last time we wanted to give it two more minutes three more weeks with the extra monday prior to actually having a second meeting so the first uh change was on page 14 um changed from uh previously for support and contract work groups upon hire they received a week of vacation after completion of two years it was two weeks after seven years it was three weeks and after 15 years it was four weeks the committee recommended changing the uh seven and 15 to five intended so after completion
of five years of service the employer received three weeks and after completion of ten years of service the employer received the other significant change was on page and that was new and supplied to uh more groups and and it is a sick and slash fmla bank payout where employees who have maxed out their sick slash fmla bank received a payout of 100 a day for a maximum of five days on an annual basis would be a beginning next school year so those were the things we've talked about them at the last board meeting but didn't want to have a second meeting in the handbook until you had a chance to think about those conditions and then the highlighted language that was suspended for this year recommending fun i think that wasn't that much um all
right any questions as a second reading i would then entertain a motion to approve the employee handbook as presented motion has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded is there any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying aye all right post and then play handbook has been approved next we have our finance committee meeting update mr bowman got a couple action items uh yeah so we met on thursday the 10th of june everybody was present um we approved the minutes and then our first issue or agenda item was our football helmet sale and the birchwood school district is looking to purchase 15 of our helmets our older helmets and so we need to we didn't go through a bidding process because their local district and so
in order to accomplish this we need to vote to suspend the application of the provision for resale procedures and boe policy 683 in order to sell our local neighbors 15 helmets for 50 dollars motion has made is there a second second promotion has been made and seconded is there any further discussion saying none all in favor signify by saying aye all right post and that so we temporarily suspended it and now we will look to vote to sell the 15 or 15 helmets at 50 to the birchwood school district and they've signed a waiver of liability etcetera and so it's all legally balanced they're pretty well covered so we're looking to accept the 750 dollar bid for the 1500 and entertain a motion to approve that saying motion has been made is there a second
motion has been made and seconded is there any further discussion see none all in favor signify by saying i i opposed and the sale has been approved do we need to vote to reinstate the policy or is that something it's suspended for this okay uh then we talked about our clinic and uh mr blackhawk updated us on the transition to a new clinic they're still looking for uh interviewing providers uh to replace care gear and as well as an update on our llc that runs our contracts that we get for contracting healthcare providers and there's some employers that are interested in joining and from around the state and so mr blackballer continues to pursue those opportunities to basically increase the number of participants so that we have more bargaining power to help our district out
in terms of prices and then we review the initial budget we're projecting at this point no new state revenue and we do not have any information on the final amounts of esser funds so we didn't include those so currently we're projecting approximate shortfall of 250 000 but of course you know there could be new state revenues plus esser funds so but that's just assuming kind of a worst case scenario and so we'll keep updated on that there was no other uh agenda items and we reviewed and approved the bills and we adjourned our next meeting is set for july 8th at 8 30 am any questions of finance all right thank you for that report next we have curriculum committee meeting update abby yes and first thing we talked about was the plan for the
summer split and the thanks right now we've got a little squirrel skills course happening to avoid students show your proficiency and all the expected standards for their uh high school we've got those face-to-face online and coming up next month our elementary christmas opportunity is going to be offered um exciting united states and [Music] about our elementary christmas appliance for the achievement gas reduction grant we had previously and we have submitted another proposal for the nine year review of this household and lastly um [Music] um any questions all right thank you for that report next we have compensation committee meeting update excuse me uh we met today at 5 30. all members were present we discussed teacher compensation and then we don't have any recommendations for that but we will be meeting again before our next
board meeting and we will have a recommendation to be voted on in regards to the teacher compensation to support staff compensation contract and staff compensation and potentially the school board member compensation as well as the summer school compensation so we just kind of high level discussion and then no recommendations our next meeting date will be before our next quarter any questions all right thank you for that next we have the policy legislative advocacy committee meeting update this is just on here for our second reading so we have an action item for policy 347.1 exhibit 347.1 policy rule of 460 policy 460.1 and policy and exhibit 462. this is the second reading so i would entertain a motion to approve zoom option has been made is there a second second motion has been made and seconded
is there any further discussion saying none all in favor signify by saying hi all right opposed and those policies and exhibits and rules have been approved next we have communications committee meeting minutes from may 25th yeah let's briefly talk about those may 25th normally communications per year we spent some time that day looking at reports from various leadership teams we've been talking about a few different pieces that we've talked about here including our instructional military plan for next year and looking at distance learning differently talked a little bit about continuous improvement and i've shared some results from the employee engagement survey with you i'll do the presentation on there that are next working here i've talked a little bit about the compensation conversation which all right thank you for that next we've got our upcoming
meeting schedule we've got on friday at noon the webinar chat at the capitol registration is not required for that we also have an online forum community engagement discussion thursday june 24th at seven o'clock registration is required for that and then saturday july 24th registration is required for the summer leadership institute so if you can attend those two items that need registration please let colleen know she can get you registered and any board member suggestions or recommendations to be brought to the board at this time all right see none anything from our district administrator yeah i'm just going to say you know obviously we're meeting in our new space it's not quite finished yet some additional pieces happening with technology we have that mobile screen for right now to help out with things but we'll have
another screen mounted on the wall in the corner there as well as one above me here and things like microphones and things like that you need to have installed and then there will be a regular board table coming in july as to be in the new well and it's been working very well your new spaces working well as well yes it is all right thank you for that update and with that i would entertain a motion to convene into closed session pursuant to wisconsin statute 19.851 e 19.851 c and 19.851 f and g roll call of motion please record question has it made is there a second motion has been made and seconded roll call please mr stream here yes for sure mr bowen yeah yes johnson yes richard turner all right we are headed
to closed session we've got a few minutes to get our camera crew knocked down
