All right. Call this meeting to order. June 9th, 2026 at 400 PM. Mosy, would you mind leading our prayer and pledge? I thank you so much as we make decisions. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republics one indivisible and justice for all. >> Thank you. Roll call, please. >> Miss Morrison, here >> Mr. Kennedy here. Miss Hall here. Miss Watson >> here. Um, we need to approve the agenda. >> Move. Second. Second. >> Is there any discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Motion carries. >> Next, we need to approve the minutes of the May 11th, 2026 Jacksonville City Schools Board meeting. Move. >> Do I have a second? Second. >> Any discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Motion

carries. Public comments on agenda item. >> All right. Thank you. Finance report. heard the financial report. I make a recommendation to approve the Jacksonville City Schools accounts payable and payroll for April 2026 and accept the April 2026 financial statements. >> Second. >> Do we have any discussion? Miss Blunt, I just have a a couple quick questions and you may have explained this already about instructional money that teachers have to spend. Okay. Did were there funds uh to be spent was there a deadline? Did they have to be spent before the end of the school before like the end of May or do they have some funds that can carry over to help start the beginning of the year? That's my question. >> Thank you. >> So they can go buy buy supplies, materials needed for

the school school year. Okay, great. Excellent. And then there the new funding begins October one. usually start >> right. Uh the next question is um is that amount changed for this upcoming fiscal year? It it stays the same, isn't it? $1,000 per per teacher >> per foundation. >> Yes. Yeah. Per foundation. >> Okay. So those teachers that are paid with local funds, we take care of. When I say we, I mean the account, the board account takes care of that material. Okay. So they receive $1,000 for school. Okay. Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you, >> Miss Blunt. How do we handle the new teachers um that are coming to our system for the beginning of school? Welcome to help. Right. >> Well, and they know that if they need anything for next year to just

sort of hold off and and just be diligent about um about their expenditures expenditures, too. >> That's great. >> Right. All right. Thank you. >> Um All right. So we um have a motion and a second. All those in fa favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Okay. Superintendence report. New business. >> All right. And going back to the financial. Thank you, Miss Bunt that. Um, on your 8A, I want to make a recommendation to accept the Alabama CMP cooperative supplemental uh grocery bid uh for 2026 2027 uh for the Jacksonville City Schools and give you just a little bit of a background on this. Um, this is when some of the commodities are scarce and so we pull together and uh we're able to get some of the things that you might not be

able to get. And so, um, that's the first recommendation. had a recommendation to accept the Alabama CMP cooperative supplemental grocery bid for 2026 27 for JCS >> second. >> Any discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Motion carries. >> The next is very similar. a recommendation to accept the CMP produce bid uh CMP-1-2026 uh from Forestwood Farms for produce um for 2026 2027 as they were the sole bidder so provider effective August 1, got a recommendation to accept CMP produce bid from Forestwood Farms for produce for 2627 as they were the sole bid are effective August 1st, 2026. Do I have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. >> So the next item, um I'm gonna show

you a slide on this one if it's all right. >> Absolutely. >> All right. So >> Yay. Let me tell you a little bit about what this is. This is actually an older picture because part Oh, this part of Kitty Stone is actually missing and that's before the addition, believe it or not. So, that's how long we've been kind of talking about this. Uh, but this is the roadway. You'll see the black line going around. Um, and this is the proposed roadway that will go behind Kitty S. Appreciate Mr. Cosy being here tonight um or this afternoon. And uh so what I need um and what the item that I'm going to recommend item of business is to surplus um the property and uh that is within that line. And so um there is a

legal description of that. I think I shared that with you at one point in time, but that is to surplus the item is to surplus uh that property and then donate it to the city. That way the county can begin uh the roadway building there. Now, I spoke to the county um yesterday and the city last night and they are ready um what is in uh the only bit of business before we can start dropping CH is for the board um to vote on that. Uh and again based on Mr. Turnbox's direction, this is the way to do this because I went through him to you know, how does one entity give another entity? Um and it's not that the county commission wouldn't do it for us. They can't. uh they have to do it

for another entity like the city. Um and so once that is taken care of uh again they're ready to start hauling some chart in. And so uh with that being said um there may be a question but I'm going to go ahead and make the recommendation recommendation to approve the surplus of property owned by the Jacksonville City Board of Education and the donation of said property which is adjacent to Kittystone Elementary School uh to the city of Jacksonville for the construction of a roadway. Um, and then you can see the property map there. So, >> second. >> Any discussion? >> I have a question. Okay. That driveway, is that going to be car riders, bus? How's what's going to happen? Be back. >> We'll get with um Chief Wood and really kind of lay that

out with CST. Um, I I think there's discussion about car riders and getting them off of there. Um, so but we'll consult those >> street and having them routed back there. Is that what you're saying? >> And so what we'll do is we'll consult with them though and what works best for traffic flow and uh how to bring the buses in. And so but uh that is in my mind and and the discussion that I've had with them that is kind of the way that that thought will run is to get them off the roadway. Um >> then will they the >> they'll exit up on the other end. Then the children will enter the school here on this side or where will they cafeteria or >> no we won't bring >> this is where

the rest this is where the school feel free but this is the prime of the school right see the walkway that is across your gymnasium. >> Um, so then you have right out here is that exit below. >> And so that's where the traffic, >> but you have all this to bring cars in, loop them, uh, really are moving us out with that and then there's been discussion about bringing just the bus around here and unloading it from that. Um so it's going to check either way and it's going to take the um there has been some discussion and this is uh something that we talk about is that when we go ahead because we don't want this to be an open roadway just driving school. So >> not being used to drop off kids

uh in the morning or in the evening. Um do all that but you can't do that but there's a fence line here and we are getting some wash back. So, while we're back there, maybe we can fill in >> the concern is wonderful hopefully relieve congestion, but you got entrances, both entrances are >> and and I know, you know, the police are all the way around. We have good over here. Um >> yeah, thousand plus school there where you're bringing both of the cars all in, but you'll definitely >> will that be how wide will that be? Two lane like driveway or driveway currently. Is that two lane or three lane? Three in front of the school. So will that be a two lane? >> I see it matching this one. But it go that

way. >> It'll be one way. >> Yeah. But I didn't know. >> We're trying not to get anybody side by side on there >> because of the children crossing in front. >> And so you'll want it to flow. However it flows, it needs to flow one way >> other than having kids being dropped off. >> So there's there's more discussion and planning and it won't be you know Mr. Coll will be a part of that. He handles loading and unloading of students and along with our SOS and really talking to the chief and how we can >> you said they're ready to start. >> The thing is you do what uh y'all do um then we can take it. Um >> but it doesn't go to the state and sit on a desk or anything.

>> No, it doesn't. And so, uh, we're trying to keep, you know, like I said, uh, and you have more of the legal description that's not on that, but it is part of what I sent you. Um, and so again, that we'll receive that again spoke to him yesterday and they are good to get started just as soon as he is in possession. >> Excellent. Well, and I was going to say if you find in talking with those um experts about traffic flow, if you find that we're dropping off car riders at a certain point and we need a sidewalk and a covered walkway for some reason, please let us know. >> No. And and the board has been very good because again that's an older picture that's not showing the the covering that is

already there. Right. >> Um, but you have placed in coverings uh around the school. But I appreciate that because we don't know, let me back up just a second. >> We've talked about because the building's already been extended. Your building's down to here now, >> right? >> But actually putting in possibly some uh on this lower side, >> which would be great because when teachers are over here, up here, Keystone's huge. Yeah. >> To have this access where they can park and have access in here. Um so just later on in doing and uh >> well whenever there's programs whenever you have some kind of activity when you have parents come in >> parking the night >> right it's part one of our planning too but I don't want to go to other projects but

we've talked about paving this and adding pave you know. So there are other areas there, but you really want to get your construction work done before you start looking at other things. Um the only other thing that will be going on Keystone is >> um but the on >> so they'll be filling in and some of that dirt is already out there, but they'll be bringing in dirt, bringing up taking care of the water. Thank you. All right. We have a recommendation to approve the surplus of property owned by the Jacksonville City Board of Education and the donation of SE property which is adjacent to Kittystone Elementary School to the city of Jacksonville for the construction of a road roadway. Do I have a motion? >> So move second. >> Second. >> We've already done

that. Yeah. Um, any more discussion? All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Motion carries. >> The next recommendation is to approve Jacksonville City Schools 2026 2027 salary schedules. >> Move. Oh, >> we have a motion to approve the JCS 2627 salary sc. >> All right. We have a motion and a second. Any discussion? All those in favor say I. I. >> Any oppose. >> All right. Personnel. >> I've scratched one of the personnel items off of here. Um I'm playing. Um this one uh pains me greatly, but uh I recommend that the board approve personnel items A uh through Q. And yes, uh Miss Curl's uh retirement is on there along with Dr. weights and so but Miss Curl before we walked up here was talking about not retiring. So I want to

get that on record. Um so I don't know what that was about but I know um >> having coffee. >> So but that is that is against my will the recommendation uh for the board to approve personnel items A through Q. >> Okay. >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Let me just say uh we have Miss Curl with us all the way through the end of July, >> July 31st. >> So, we will have her with us for at least two more board meetings. >> And let me just say um and I know she's going to be with us a little bit longer, but um you know, there's a lot of personnel on here. And you know, when you just look at personnel face value, I mean, you

just you see the names and um we have some people who are going on to uh other positions, some that are going on to retirement, some that are um taking moves closer to home, and some are going to administration. And um we wish them all well. But Miss Curl uh again, we'll have her with us for a couple more meetings. But um we appreciate her so much. And let me just say for Dr. waits to in the years that he has put in uh with Jacksonville City Schools and um I'm going to tell you graduation I have never been anywhere where anyone does a graduation or ceremonies or um and just the millions and millions of dollars that have come in to our students this year. It's just such a testimony to our staff, to

our faculty, to our parents. Um the greatest asset that we have are our teachers and our kids. Um but I appreciate Dr. ways and uh the work that he has done and uh and I say that even though he pulled one of the worst pranks on me. I was on vacation and he put a life-sized portrait of himself behind my desk. Um that's what I walked in on. Um but anyway, uh I will say I appreciate it even after he did that to me. So, but thank you board very very much for approving those items. >> All right. Item 10, confirmed date of next board meeting. we discussed earlier, June 30th, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. >> And the the last item was just for your information that R. >> Oh, yes. >> Make sure that

y'all understood that. Okay. >> Um, board member comment. >> Of course, I like to go first today. Mrs. Cur Curl, we hate to see you, but I'm going to be sitting in your seat. I promise you not not in Jackson school system but retire as a whole. Thank you for your service. You have been phenomenal. You've been phenomenal. Thank you. We've enjoyed too. >> I've enjoyed working with you personally. even going back to 2003 when we made the decision to send my child to Kitty Center >> and uh you were so helpful and and I was that nervous parent that called my child's not off the bus yet and I didn't understand the bus system but uh I just appreciate you all the years and everything especially the work you've done for us now >>

um Sunny Bites food is being distributed to the community on the second and fourth Tuesday of each Well, I'm so glad you I would have it that would have broke my heart if I missed that. Sunny Bite started today. Um, and so, uh, Miss Mcomes and and everyone else. Uh, but you'll see our students. I tell you, Chloe is just my rock star. She's part of the strategic planning team and, uh, she was out with her mom. And so, uh, just so proud of of all of our folks who are, uh, doing that work. And then, uh, summer school is, uh, in full session. and I just caught him at lunch today and uh the teachers are smiling and that's even after a full year of teaching and uh and teaching summer school to boot

and uh I wanted to mention this this is the 10th year that um Miss Gosset and CMP and and our folks have been out taking care of summer meals and um that that's just a an amazing uh thing and until you go out and you see the kids and uh they participate And I'm telling you, they participate. And so, um, I want to put that up there. And that is on our website. Uh, and so, uh, anyone that's interested in that, uh, they can participate. And, um, the information is there on our website, times and locations. The only other thing that I had, and I'm so sorry. >> Oh, you're fine. >> I got talking about Miss Curless. Lost my mind there. Um, so I am currently finishing up uh nurse uh lead nurse interviews

and uh so I'll finish that up and hopefully uh that process will come to an end um within the next day or so and then um I hope to begin interviews uh for the principal ship uh next week. Now we have that job posted in every available location. I've asked Miss Curl to put that out on every social media that we can possibly access. Of course, our website, state website. Um, and so we are getting um some uh applicants there and I've been asked, you know, how will you do that? Well, I've done that in in multiple ways, but I will um have folks with the system that are working with me on that. Uh, of course, curriculum, special ed. um we're going to invite a few more people to the party and so and

said and we will interview everyone that applies. >> So there will be an interview committee involved in this process. >> It will be an interview group of >> it'll be a group >> that will be involved in interview and and I want input we want input but at the end of the day um I just want to be able to make a recommendation to the best applicant that we feel um will uh do the job at the high school. And so, um, and then Miss Curl's position, she's asked me not to interview for her spot. So, so I don't know when I'll do that. Um, because you know, you can you can app, you know, you can come right back. So, before you leave, you don't even have to leave. So, but I'll keep you

posted on that because I know Miss Curl, she really um works uh as support for the board as well. And I know that's very, very important for you as well. So that gives you a little bit of an update on what's going on. >> Thank you. I'd like to say as a board member, we thank you so much, Jennifer. And I'm gonna get teary eyed because it's back in the kidney stone days and I just appreciate you so much and all that you do for us. You keep us all the time ready for anything. So we appreciate that. I also like to uh tell Dr. waits. Thank you for all he's done. >> Um I've heard lots of comments from parents about how wonderful he is to their child and that means the world. Um

and I appreciate his service. And I failed to mention the retirees last month and so I want to make sure that they understand there's many that I worked with and I I appreciate them as well and all these retirees this time. It means the world to us how you give your all every single day. And we hope for you rest and enjoyment in your retirement. And I hope our teachers are getting rested up over the summer enjoying a break. And summer school teachers, you'll be there soon. and and our retirees can go ahead and apply for their sub um you know uh status with us and and they can come right back to work if they would like. So we >> we open that door and uh and the board did uh approve a few

positions uh and uh those instructional coaches. So that might be of interest as well. So I'm I'm always promoting and so hopefully folks will look at that as well. >> When is the last day of summer school? June 26. >> And the next question, both of they're being transported by buses. Is that correct? >> Or buses are being utilized to transport children. >> I be a pardon. >> I don't. >> What about the high school? What's going on there? >> Yeah, they Yeah, they're getting there. They're there. Some Some are jumping on the bus. Some are jumping off the bus, though. No, they're getting there. >> All right. Do I have a motion? >> I sure. >> All right. All those in favor say I. >> I make that policy.
