Board of Education May 14th meeting to order. Mr. Gray, would you lead us in invocation? Bow our heads. Heavenly Father, thank you for blessing us today, Lord. Thank you for bringing us together to represent our schools, Lord. This prayer is for our students, teachers, and faculty for the remainder of this school year as that you keep them safe, Lord. In your name I pray. Item C is Pledge of Allegiance. Attention, salute, pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Item D is to establish a quorum, and I see all members are here. Item E is to approve the agenda. Do I hear a motion to approve the agenda? I'll make a

motion. Do I hear a second? >> I'll second. Everybody had a chance to look over it? Any questions? Additions? Hearing none, all in favor, raise your right hand. All opposed, say "No." Motion carried. Item E is unfinished business. Mr. Scott, do we have any unfinished business? >> No, sir. Item G is new business. I'll turn it over to Mr. Scott for recommendations. I'd like this board to approve participation in a state bid something on a grocery bid with the Colbert County Schools. Do I hear a motion on item number one? I'll make a motion. Do I hear a second? I'll second. Any discussion? It'll make it cheaper for us. Okay. Hearing none, all in favor, raise your right hand. All opposed, say "No." Motion carried. Item number two. I'd ask the board to approve the

proposed CNP meal pricing for the 2026-2027 school year as follows. I'll let y'all look over those. About 25, 50 cents more than it was, right? Mhm. Or that at the house. Good. What do we have to do to make sure we keep it free? Everybody What's important? Everybody has to eat the meal. Yes, I'd like to give you a review. So, we're currently under the community eligibility eligibility provision. I'll get that out in a moment. From 4 years ago, we get to do that through next year. After that, we have to reapply. The key to this thing working and keeping it free is for all people to participate. Um all students need to get a meal. We receive reimbursement for each meal that's served to a student. So, even if a student brings their own

lunch, they can still participate by picking up that meal. And and if they choose not to utilize it, they can put it on a share table, things that are allowable we share and other students can come and do that. So, our percentages are going to be somewhere this year they were somewhere around 87%, which gives us a little bit bigger shortfall than what we had prior. We're currently operating on about 94. So, we're making up a 6% variance with with all the cart sales and things of that nature. So, obviously when we drop from 94 to 86, we've got more to make up if we make the decision or you guys make the decision to continue CEP. So, the more people we can get to participate, the better that's going to offset the offset, if

you will. >> more people that go through the line and get a lunch, the less we have to sell to break even. >> If you've got you're never going to have, unfortunately, 100% participation every day cuz you're going to have folks who are sick. But, if you want to say on average if we have a 95% attendance rate, if 100% of those 95% of those kids will go through and get a meal, we get reimbursed for those meals. There's a 6% amount that we're short, but when we've only got an average of 75% of our people participating, we're leaving a big gap there that we probably would not have to be making up. So, ultimately, we're going to work on that. Mr. Scott has asked some administrative team to put together some plans to maybe

change the way we start our days next year and and some procedures to do that that'll be forthcoming. So, you give us a You give us a rundown of that while Yes, sir. I can and I can get you a another I thought I I've got it. I thought I'd say it. The big thing we have an issue with right now more than anything is our breakfast participation. Uh a lot of that is because people are just struggling to get there and there's a lot going on. What we're hoping is if we can figure out ways to maybe capitalize on a unified place that they start their day with or maybe trying to get it into the classrooms for the upper grades and let them just go ahead and get their day started. A captive

audience is usually much more receptive to what we're trying to get them to do. So. Do I hear a motion on item number two? I'll make a motion. Do I hear a second? I'll second it. Any other discussion? Hearing none, all in favor raise your right hand. I'll vote in favor of it. Mr. Shannon, thank you for that. Yes, sir. Item number three. I'll second. Any discussion? We don't have the service bed. Yes. It's still a good price. Yeah, they drove home but it's still Is three and four the same vehicle or are they two

different ones? Same vehicle but three has a higher mileage with new tires. Over when they tire and it's got higher mileage. All in favor of item number three. I'm voting for it. Item number four. Before we adjourn, I think we set a meeting for next Thursday morning at 7:30. So, that's going to be 23 days from today. May 21st at 7:30 in the morning. Anybody got anything else? I'll be out of town on that day. Okay. One

question. How does the summer feeding affect the regular school? So, summer feeding is a it's a Yes and no. The quick answer to that is it's a separate program. However, at the end of the summer, just like last summer, we were able to take funding excess from what we had and transfer it back into the national school, which is your regular program to offset deficit numbers to try to keep us in the black. >> So, extra money made on summer can help us in the regular school year. >> That's right. I can tell you that we are doing bulk feeding this year, which you guys have already talked about in the past, and it's going to be different. It's going to be better, I think, for our folks. Um we're going to have a cap

on that of 1,600 people. You have to cap it because you have to order in bulk, so you have to order accordingly, and it'll be first come, first serve, uh and they'll have to sign up through the QR codes that are available, uh starting on the 22nd next week. So, the sign-up starts next week. >> That's correct. And all of that information is on our district webpage. We've contracted with an organization called C level social media. They're going to manage all of that for us. If you will check the district webpage, we've got or not webpage, I'm sorry, Facebook page. We've already had multiple FAQs and and flyer information with QR codes and and if they don't have if they don't have a ticket, they or a QR code to scan, which is what that

ticket is, we're not going to be able to serve them until we we're basically complete. And then if we have some no shows, we can try to backfill, but I would not bank on that. I know our neighboring districts, by the time they got their communities used to this, were capping out and selling out within about 3 hours. And they were looking at numbers of 1,400 and 1,500 last year. So, Only kids in our district sign up or is this like more open to what it's It's open to households and a lot of that's on that FAQ. Households under the age of 18, 1 to 18. I'm not I don't want to exclude anyone, but I hope that our kids get to take advantage of it first. The big thing that we have to do

is make sure that we're not replicating. So, a kid cannot participate in Hayables and also participate in ours or vice versa. That's a violation of federal law. So, hopefully the way it's set up, if the folks will go to the districts they're in to receive that service, everyone will get that opportunity. We have some nearby districts who don't participate, but we have received, as has Hayables, patronage from those communities because they work in our county, but maybe live in a neighboring county, and so those are opportunities for us. >> basically touch 1,600 families countywide? Our plan is to serve 1,600 meals each time we do it. We're going to have a total of seven different service dates. They'll be receiving 10 meals, 10 breakfasts, 10 lunches. They'll they'll receiving seven on the last day because

of the start of school. Uh and by doing it this way, we've applied for a bulk waiver so we can serve in bulk and we can also provide food for weekend dates as well within that 10-day period. So, doing it this way has created a lot of work on the front side, but hopefully it's going to expedite it on the short side. Um maps will go up tomorrow if they haven't already. >> They've already been up. I've seen them. Showing the pickup locations. It's a really good thing and it could really do a lot for not just the CNP program, but our system as a whole. So, is it okay to tell our folks to be looking for that link next week? >> It'll go up on May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. I saw the

map and I was like, I don't really know what it's Yes. And we've got each school has a certain amount allocated to them based on last year's sales. >> What I hope is that we're I don't want to run out, but I'd love to know we run out. That means it's a an automatic success and next year we can increase that number even more. But we can't we can't take that financial risk of trying to get ready for 2,000 people and and fall well short of that. So, it's a great way for our kids to um receive food throughout those summer months and for those who participate in our literacy and numeracy programs as well, the summer camps that are required by the state, you know, we don't feed them in addition cuz that would

be duplication as well. But they've all been instructed they're more than welcome to take that stuff and then bring it back on the days that they're part of that as well. So, a lot of potential for some some good things. And of course, as you all know from trainings, any funding that we can not have to pass back through the child nutrition funding is funding that we can use to resolve other financial needs. You have the schedule posted? Yes. >> Yes, it's on there. Yes, it's on It's on our Facebook page. Okay, cuz I can pull it off there When this starts again, >> if you could appreciate it. It'll be identical to in my hands, but but I'll get yours. You got a chance. We'll do. Anything else? Do I hear a motion to

adjourn? I hear a second. Second. All right. All in favor, raise your right hand. All voted for. I declare this meeting adjourned. Yeah. Yeah. One more. I'm sure you're good. Yeah. One more light. That's what? She closed That's what I think I'm going to call the floor. So I'm going to Is that the thing about it? That's what I'm saying.
