001know he was it also >> yes wear another hat Tyler >> why not free time >> okay it is Tuesday January 13 2026 and I call this board of education special meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Can I get a roll call? >> Director Callahan >> here. >> Director Fletcher >> here. >> And Director Hunt is absent. >> Director Olson >> here. >> Director Pal >> here. >> Okay, let's stand for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. I move that the board approve the special meeting agenda for January 13, 2025 as presented. >> Second. Any discussion? Okay. Can I get a roll call? >>
002Director. >> Hi. >> Director Fletcher. >> Hi. >> Director Olsson. >> I. >> Director Pal. >> I. >> Uh. Next up, I move that the board approve the minutes from the business meeting on December 9th, 2025. >> Second. >> Mike. >> Any discussion on that one? Okay. Okay. Can I get a roll call? >> Director Callahan. >> Hi. >> Director Fletcher. >> Hi. >> Director Olsen. >> Hi. >> Director Pal. >> Hi. >> Okay. So, next up we have communications. And first and um most importantly, we have recognition of our safety and security specialist. >> Pete Tass. >> Tassy. I was gonna say you're gonna have to pronounce that last name for me. >> Tassy. Well, if you want to go around, I'll just say a few words. Um, we are are very pleased to
003have an amazing security team. Um, and that became very evident on the day before the winter break when Pete had to jump into action to support a student who was choking. Um parents uh uh parents were there um and brought the child into Pete um who had stopped breathing, had blue lips and um Pete uh is a former police officer, obviously highly trained um and uh just went into action. And so Pete, we're extremely proud and thankful for you and obviously our district owes you a debt of gratitude as do all of our students. So thank you. >> Yes. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I KIND OF MADE YOU and my partner back here a promise when you hired me that teachers are there to teach the kids and send them home with more knowledge and
004our job is to make sure that anything else goes on we deal with it >> we're there for >> and you and you proved it that day. >> Yeah. And going into action was perfect. I mean that was exactly you just you just did what you had to do. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. >> Makes us feel better knowing you're there. Yes, it does. >> That's that that's our goal, right? >> Yes. >> Well, Pete, thank you very much. Appreciate it. Yep. Well deserved. >> And uh I did not have the next one on. >> Yes. No, you didn't. >> Um January is board appreciation month. Um and it is really important that we recognize um the hard work of of our board and board members across the state. It is a uh
005thankless job um to uh serve as a board member because of needless to say very few people come forward when you're doing great things and um not many people come forward when you're not when you're doing good things. So, um I think it's um just a real incumbent that we pause for a moment and just thank you um all of our board members and sorry that Nicole's not here tonight to hear uh we have a resolution that's passed every year which I'm trying to find and probably won't put my hands on it and you're probably happy for that. I know that you >> Yeah, I and I meant to print it, but anyways, um there is a resolution that the governor signs every year that outlines um all of the things that schoolboard members are
006responsible for and how thankful we are to have people across our state who serve in that capacity. So, we have a little token of appreciation for you, customized um token of appreciation for you to thank you for the work that you do each and every day. And I'll spare you reading the resolution, but thank you. Yes. >> Thank you. And thank you, Dave. We'll we'll save your your uh gift until you come back. >> Here's the res. >> It's not a pony. >> That's not a pony. >> No pony. Sorry. >> Thank you. >> You don't have to clean up after it. >> Anyways, >> yeah, even better. >> So, thank you all for all that you do for our districts. We certainly are much better off as a result of your leadership. So, >>
007you know what? The kids and the families in our district are worth it. I completely agree. >> And we have great team. >> Yes, we absolutely do. >> We appreciate you. >> J's the glue. >> It's not staff appreciation. It's appreciated. >> All right. >> So, thank you. >> Thank you, Jeff. >> Yes. >> All right. So, you know, since we're under communications, why don't we just take a minute if anybody has anything they want to bring up? >> I just wanted to uh point out that we have another fundraiser for Elizabeth Education Foundation tomorrow night or tomorrow during the day. It's at uh the Parker Chick-fil-A. And so, if you go in, just say that you are there for uh the fundraiser for Elizabeth Education Foundation. and then they will credit part of the
008sales of your thing to um to to EEF. And EF does um I've said it before, but just to as a reminder, so they um fund things for the Elizabeth schools such as the teacher grant program and the uh senior scholarships and also the stars awards which um will be, you know, we'll be looking for nominations from teachers very soon on that. So uh the the stars banquet this year is going to be on April 11th. just put it on your camera. And uh so we'll begin working on that soon. But anyway, so that's one of the fundraisers that helps to support all that. And so we will appreciate you eating at Chick-fil-A tomorrow. >> Who needs an excuse? >> Yeah, really. But don't forget to tell them that you're there for that because I
009usually have several fundraisers going on at on the same day. >> So >> awesome. Thank you. Um, I will just say it's been a busy start of of this calendar year. We had teacher training last Monday and uh had teachers um spend time looking at direct explicit instruction and how to plan effectively for that. And so we had two trainers that Zach Rochelle sent instead. He was unable to be here, but he sent two of his colleagues to uh provide that training and it was extremely wellreceived. So we were very fortunate. Um uh we also had some training for our social studies teachers at the secondary level, middle and high school from Dr. Cran Whiter. Uh Dr. Cran Whiter um has put together a collection of original documents from history >> um and has provided
010that to our high school and middle school uh social studies teachers >> so that they can actually use original documents in their education. actually exposing students to what original document said versus what a book might summarize them. So, we were excited um to be able to offer that. And uh while it was really taking up um almost the whole day for our social studies teachers because they then left that and came to our um planning session um uh really heard some good things from our social studies teachers about the resource and how it's going to really support them. So, >> that's exciting. So, we were excited and it was a a busy day of training, but uh we're off to a good start. Our I Ready data has come in. Uh we should have our
011high school math I Ready data um hopefully by the end of day to Thursday or Friday and we'll get that to you as well to review. Um but we are starting to meet with teachers. We had a whole day today at Running Creek where um the I Ready folks were here with our staff and with our principles to really dig into the data, look at what it's what it's showing us, what we're doing well at, what we need to do better at, how we can support students who may have some learning deficits and um so that was a great day today and that's happening across the district and all of our schools where teachers are are really digging into the data with the experts. >> That's good. >> So they're here pretty much all week.
012>> They're here. They're here. Certainly in the next few days. >> Yeah. >> So, >> but anyways, >> I'll keep it short. >> Um, just a reminder, we have our spelling bee >> Tomorrow night at the middle school district >> 4 to 8 is >> I think they just block that much time and that's all the information I was given, but I don't know >> because I'm pretty sure it's not till >> it. I'm sure that's for historial purposes for clean up. You know, it might be, but last year they >> I mean, the students just rocked it. It went on for >> It did. It went on for quite a while. Yes, it did. >> Pack a sandwich. >> Yeah, pretty much. >> Pack a lunch. >> Bring your own lunch. Yeah. So, I'm
013going to be there tomorrow. >> Cool. All right. Um, with that, next up, we have public comments. >> And it's not a topic on the agenda, so if you want to move it up, >> that's fine. We don't have any public comment. Okay. Um Misty. >> Okay. >> Yeah, we'll let you say that. >> And Misty, when you come up, if you would just push the button down until the lights up, that'd be great. >> Hello everybody. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. >> Everybody an email as well. So, >> you're gonna have to hold the button down for a minute, I think. >> Just until you see numbers. >> Yeah. Okay, I see numbers. >> Yes, there we go. Perfect. >> Thank you. >> All right. Um, you know, you you guys
014had made a comment at the at the beginning of this meeting about, you know, being, you know, appreciated and, you know, I I put this at the end of my my conversation or at the end of my speech here, but I I just want to thank you guys so much for for everything that you guys do on a daily basis. you know, my my sister is on a school board in in a small town here in Colorado and and you know, I I've she also doesn't get thanked enough as well and and so thank you guys from the bottom of my heart as a parent for what you guys do. Like it it truly truly means it means the world. So, thank you each and every one of you. >> Um so, I'd like to
015start by reading um hello and good evening members of the school board. My family and I moved to Elizabeth just short of two years ago. We moved here to get our young daughter out of the city life. We love the schools, our tight-knit community, and the morals and values the schools have upheld. I hope and pray that never changes. This letter is written to the organization and the individuals suing Elizabeth School District. As an American Christian family, hearing of this lawsuit was incredibly disheartening and disappointing. What right do you have as parents to have filth in our schools for our children to read? How dare you? If you want your kids to have access to a diverse array of reading material, do in your own home. This is inappropriate smut. When did kids stop being
016able to be kids? Why can't we just have books in schools like Dr. Seuss, Where the Wild Things Are, The Magic Treehouse to name a few. age appropriate material. For the folks in the community here tonight that haven't heard what books are being thought to be allowed in our schools the last two years or need a refresher, please allow me to give you one. I would also encourage everybody on this call and watching on video to check the updates on the Elizabeth School District website. I would like to read a couple of the paragraphs from these books. One of the book is one of the books is called The Hate You Give Published in 2017 and inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Fooling Around isn't new for us. And when Chris slipped his hand
017into my shorts, I didn't think anything of it. Then he got me going and I wasn't really thinking at all. For real. My thought process went out the door. And right as I was at the moment, he stopped, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a condom. The next book, The Bled Eye, contains themes like rape, incest, racism, and self-hatred. Google says this book is recommended for older teens 17 and older. The confused mixture of his memories of of Pauline and the doing of a wild and forbidden thing excited him, and a bolt of desire ran down his genitals, giving it length and softening the lips of his anus. Surrounding all this lust was a border of politeness. He wanted to effer tenderly. This is what is being fought to stay in our schools and
018our libraries. And as a parent, I say no. Where do these books contain educational value? How in any way is any parent okay with this? Can we continue to just let our kids be kids? Period. I will continue to speak up every month in support of our school district and for parents everywhere. I stand by the district and their motto that says students are at the heart of everything we do. This could not be allowed to happen. Thank you again so much to the board for your time and thank you for doing what's right for our kids and protecting our kids kids. Thank you. >> Appreciate you coming tonight. >> Do you want me to turn this off? >> Sure. >> Thank you. >> Okay, so next up we have the consent agenda. Um items
01981 through 85. I move that the board approve consent items 81 through 85 as presented. Can I get a second? >> Second. >> And no discussion here. So, can I get a roll call? >> Director Callahan. >> Hi, >> Treasure Fletcher. >> I >> Okay, so now we're moving on to action items. And the first item on our agenda is the classified salary schedule updates. Um, do you want to talk about this? >> You want to do a motion first or do you want me to talk first? >> You know what? Let me do the motion first. Okay. So, I move that the board approve the newly updated classified salary schedules, >> Sergey. >> Okay. >> So, we caught um we've had we've had some pretty significant turnover in our preschool ranks um over the
020last couple of months. Um and most of it's been because of people finding jobs that are are much higher paying. Um it made us uh take a step back and look at our salary scale and and realize that um we are requiring two um similarly um uh certified individuals in the room even though we paid one as a teacher and one as a teacher assistant. They both have to meet the teacher preschool teacher certification requirements uh for early childhood. um and realized that why are we paying them differently when both of them have to have similar certification. And so we also looked at jobs in the area where we were losing people to um who were go leaving us to make three and four dollars more an hour um doing things that didn't impact kids
021that didn't impact you know shaping and planning for preschoolers. So, um, we made, uh, a decision that we really wanted to improve those salaries because we don't want a revolving door at our preschools. We really want to keep staff. Our children deserve that stability. Um, and so this scale um, moves our preschool staff up um, into a higher range um, that is far more competitive with the jobs that we know that we've lost people to. Um, we've already had very positive outcome from just communicating with our staff about this desired change. Um, so that's that's part of the the change that you see here. We also had some positions um that uh were left off and so we've tried to clean up and make sure that every position was on this salary scale. So, uh,
022financially the impact is minimal. Um, but it's the right thing to do for our staff and we believe this will lead to some stability in our preschool classrooms >> and the preschool. I mean, they work hard. >> They put their heart into it. >> It's, you know, >> that's dealing with kids. >> Used to be you could have one certified and one not. Um, lensure has changed. When you have somebody out, you have to have a licensed teacher in the room. And so we really have shifted our practice to say why would we have to one unlicensed person in the room because you want somebody who's familiar with children to continue to lead the learning for the day and and so that's when we changed our expectation but we didn't change our scale to meet
023it. So, this is the right thing to do and and um like I said, financially Justin has analyzed this. It's it's a minimal impact um but we do feel it will have a a major impact on the stability of our preschool classrooms. >> That's good for any further discussion. >> All right. Can I get a roll call? >> Hi. >> Fletcher. Hi. >> Deni. Director. Hi. So, next up we have the application for the Bule Foundation Early Childhood Grant. So, I move that the board approve the grant application of the Bule Foundation Early Childhood Grant. >> This is a grant that we've uh received multiple times. This is the Bule Foundation has really been very supportive of our infant toddler program. Um, this is a grant that we have the opportunity to apply again for
024to continue to expand on our services and improve our facilities. This particular one we're looking at um, uh, increasing some security cameras in our preschool infant toddler area as well as some playground equipment for that program. And so it's a $25,000 grant that's very mission focused um, and supportive of the the mission and vision of the district. So, I urge approval of this application. >> I'll second that. >> All right. Any further discussion on this one? >> No brainer. >> Yeah. >> All right. Can I get a roll call? >> Call. >> Hi. >> Fletcher. >> I >> All right. Next up, we have our second reading of revised policy KB, parent engagement and education. And um I know we've looked at this a couple meetings now. So um I move that the board approve
025the second reading of revised policy KB parent educ engagement and education. >> Second. >> Mary, I must say I really like I really like what you brought to the table on this one, the edits that you suggested. >> Thank you. Thank you. So, this particular policy um is a standard policy that we would have regardless of our federal programs. We'll talk about our federal programs uh in the next policy, but um I do think uh the suggestions of Mary and I think Dave made some suggestions as well on this are are really sound and in really aligning this with our district's mission and vision. So, um I I don't know if we're ready to adopt this. if there's uh any additional look that you want to do on this particular policy. I think um it
026does capture um the changes that were required which is adding kind of expanding that role of a parent. Sometimes it's an adopted parent or legal guardian. So I think that's um added some of that language in here as well. So um I'll leave that to the board whether you want to make the second reading and do one final reading um and just catch any last minute things. Um, or if you're ready to go ahead and approve it tonight and put this one to rest. >> Say, well, I would like to since Nicole can't be here tonight, I would like to give her >> a chance. >> Yeah. One last opportunity to give some input on it, but I think it would be great. >> Would you feel better if I cleaned it up and >>
027added the ideas you had or >> kind of followed up? Like I know you had some questions is a sack or PTCO so I could find out the exact answers to those. >> Do we do we need to research further that the because I had said so let's um in the well it does say on paragraph one consult and encourage uh families to share in district planning and the setting of objectives through participating in school and district accountability committees. Um, so, uh, as I reread that, I was not sure why I wrote my particular comment, but is that both the DAC and the SAC? >> It's a DACK in the sack. >> Yeah. So, that is true. So, I just wanted to confirm that. And then, um, >> so you want those names in there,
028though. >> Well, that it does say district accountability committees, and I think that's probably fine. I just kind of wanted to know from a practical standpoint sometimes it's actually applied. >> Well, we have parents in the that have to be on a site to participate. That >> That's true. That's true. And then um um let's see there's another place something there that I don't share. Oh um there was kind of the on page three I guess the district will identify an employee of the district to act as a point of contact. You know, I know Dan, you had said that that was Jeff, but does he and and he gets to report to the DAC and the SACPI and all those things. Does that mean he has to be part of it or just he
029just gets stuff and he's the transmitter of the >> information? It really and the way it's written is if there were a need to communicate with those that it would it would typically go through the PIO. We've not had any situation and we not necessarily found those organizations aligned with our vision either. Yeah. >> Um, so, um, you know, that that's in there should should there ever be something that we as a district want to take to those organizations and we would have Jeff as our as our design. But, um, and again, just because he's designated doesn't necessarily mean he'd have to do it. He would we just need to be the one who we'd work with to make sure it got done. So what kind of a thing would we ever if anything would
030we ever ask the sackpai? >> I would say if we had issues with state policy, state rules and regulations, if we had things that we felt like our voice needed to be heard, that would be something I I did. >> I don't know that the effectiveness is there for us to actually do that. I think if we had feedback, we'd probably go directly to state board of education. >> Um but again, districts who send someone to give comment and feedback on state direction and things like that. Again, if we ever felt it was a value. >> Okay. >> So, that is sort of like is that like an advisory committee to the CDE? >> Yeah. Is >> first time I heard that I was going >> supposed to be representatives of the individual congressional districts
031>> and ours is not but but supposed to be. the person who represents the region should have a voice and and should be active in the region. That person is not. But so that's where we have some challenges. >> Yeah. Okay. Okay. I just need to understand it better. Um, yeah, we, as far as I'm concerned, we can on this one especially, we can um if if I guess maybe the ones that are about the edits that we want Nicole to look at, like in paragraph 4 and that comment and maybe the comment related to what I struck in paragraph 8, maybe leave those in so that Nicole can kind of look at those. But the the question ones that now have been I've been satisfied at least >> I think. Don't you think just
032to clean it up as much as possible? >> I think we'll we'll give the track change copy, but let's do a clean copy, too, just so you can read it through top to bottom. I think it's easier without all of that cross. >> We'll do both. >> Looking through it, I didn't see anything that I would find, but >> yeah. >> Okay, >> we'll bring it back next next meeting and hopefully put this one to rest. So, >> I think I backwards. Sorry. >> Okay. So, can I get a roll call? >> Dr. Callahan, >> hi. >> Director Fletcher. >> Hi. >> Director Olsen. >> Hi, >> Dr. Pal. >> Hi. >> Okay. And next up, we have the second reading of revised policy KBA district title one parent involvement. So, I move that the
033board approve the second reading of revised policy KBA district title one parent involvement. Second. And again, I appreciate all the all the works and the edits. >> Yeah, this is a policy that I still would like to um and I know we're we're trying to plan a retreat. Um I think this is a that would be a good time for us to talk more. This policy is only required if we accept federal dollars and we've talked about whether we um want to continue to do so. Um some of the requirements and the strings that are attached really are not helpful and for the benefit that we receive from it is in question. So, um, this policy, my recommendation to Rhonda when we were doing an agenda setting was that we just do a second reading.
034Um, but that, uh, since we're trying to plan a retreat, that we have some time to talk more about that long-term desire, have Justin talk a little more about what that would mean budgetarily. >> Yeah. To the district. And then >> if uh, we decide that that we're not going to continue to accept federal dollars, then then this could actually >> go away. And just to confirm, we will not be discussing policy on our retreat. We will be discussing >> federal direction. >> So when people >> overall Yeah. No. No. >> Yeah. Just overall direction because we had talked about that I think last time. You know, we gota we got to analyze if this is worth doing for all the hoops and >> well and once we once we have a chance to really
035look at our our our vision and direction and we'll know >> is that necessary or not. Okay. So, any further discussion on this one? >> All right. Can I get a roll call? >> Hi. >> Director. >> Hi. >> Director. >> Hi. Dr. P. >> Hi. >> Okay. And next up we have education reinvisioned Bosey's resolution. Do you want to do talk first or >> Yeah. So, so Education Reinvision Boseies is a unique Boseies here in the state of Colorado. It is a Boseies focused on creating choice and options for families across the state of Colorado. So it's not a it's not a typical Boseies like one might join for special education services which is generally what drives Boseies um formation here in the state. Um this particular Boseis has been one that has uh
036continued to to look for innovative practices to expand options for parents both in homeschool as well as online programming as well as um some unique uh bricks and mortar schools that that exist across the state. Um my recommendation and we're joining them is because they share a mission and vision that we that we have which is really continuing to ensure we empower parents that parents have full control over their child's educational uh choices and and that um this this organization has done that outside of the boundaries of Elizabeth. We actually have some busies programs that operate within our district and and are successful and options for families which I think is a good thing. Um so um my recommendation to join the Boseies is really um recognizing that we share a common mission and vision
037um and that our membership can continue to strengthen them and and and the work that they're doing across the state of Colorado. Um one of the specific things I'm looking forward to to to working with the Boseies on is um exploring online options and and trying to get an online option. We have a lot of children in online mega schools across the state. Um, I'd love to have parents have an online option that the Elizabeth School District could more aptly support and support children when they encounter those challenges along the way. Um, and the Boseies is the largest authorizer of online programs across the state and have some very innovative options that we could certainly partner with. So obviously um that's a that's a residual of our our becoming a member of the Boseies. But
038I think overall um it's just you know aligning with with organizations that that share your values and share your mission I think is a good thing to do. It allows us to to really support each other and the work that we're doing. So I urge um approval of of this resolution. So, what are there any negatives for the district? >> There's no cost to the district. Uh there's no money. There's no membership fee. It truly is just um continuing to support the work of this organization and and and obviously our district now gains a voice. So we gain a voice at the board table um to to help um you know deliberate and think about what are what are needs in our state and how can we further support filling those. Um and so um
039there's no downside to us because it it truly is not it's not a cost to the district. It's just again supporting supporting work that's happening similar to what we're trying to do in our district but happening in districts where there's not that innovation occurring. >> Okay. There have been and I just I I don't I'm sure that this is not the case, but I would just like maybe a clarification because there have been some online statements that this would mean that they're going to take away local control from us. >> Absolutely not. >> They there's, you know, there's going to be, you know, eventually it's going to kind of take over us and and we aren't. I mean, I just want clarification out there. >> It's not the way the Boseies work. Boseies are run
040by districts. So districts who are members have a seat at the table to make decisions for that organization. Those organizations don't make decisions for us, >> right? Um so it would be the it would be the programs and the opportunities to expand innovation um that comes before them that now we gain a seat at the table to help guide to help think about to help deliberate um and obviously um uh districts I've worked in have been a member of ES uh at education reinvision Boseis um and and some of that has allowed incubation of thoughts and ideas within the district but that's under our control not under theirs. And it won't affect our charter schools at all. >> So what not? >> And and then if we have students in within our school district who
041do join uh who do enroll in one in the online school under the erosce then is it we get the the student count for that. Correct. >> Potentially again we don't have a we don't have a plan yet. That's something I hope to be able to work with with the multiple providers. um one size doesn't fit all and there's so many different online schools. So I think for us we asked for an online school a couple of years ago. We were denied that. >> Um I think this gives us that avenue to say well let's look at those existing online schools. Let's look at who can we best partner with to have an Elizabeth online option. Um and so ideally long term those students would be ours. Um, right now there are students from our
042district who are in their online programs um that that obviously we have no say and no control over. So I think um being able to ensure that all of those programs continue to be high quality. Um again having a seat at the table gives us that oversight of those programs that are already serving our children. We have, I think, 700 students in the Elizabeth boundaries, which is not uncommon and proportionally to districts across the state who have families who are in online programs. Um, this gives us the ability of providing some oversight, providing some ability to ensure that they're high quality and then sharing obviously with our community what we learn through that process. So, >> and so how how will we have this seat at the board? uh we we actually get to appoint
043a representative who who becomes part of their board of directors. So um so that can be someone in the district. It can be someone >> a community member that we want to represent a little bit. That'll be something that you'll have the opportunity to weigh in on. >> Um we're asking for membership. They then have to act and say yes, we'd like you to be a member. Uh so that's the next step. And then once that occurs and there'll be conversation about who would be our representative on that board. Doesn't have to be a school board member. Um and one district I served in that capacity. I don't see that in this this case. Um I've got plenty of other things that I'm doing. So I think we would then at that point determine who
044do we want to be our voice on that on the basis. >> Okay. And that person would come and and uh if it's not a board member and and not a district administrator, that person would then come and update you on here's the things happening in those. >> Okay. >> And and so when we eventually get to that point, there will be an agreement that we enter into with them. >> Yeah. Yeah. There will there will be a document. Like I said, we're asking for membership. They've approached us about membership. We ask for membership. Then they act on that membership request >> and then at that point then we work out the we work out the the written agreement which which officially names us as members of the bosses. >> And there have been statements
045also that these difficult these agreements with the erosce or just any Boseies I guess are very complicated. Is that >> not at all? >> No. >> Just bringing out the things that I've heard and I just want answers to them. So >> yeah. Yeah. So great. Okay. >> I think the same people who oppose us joining this vote also opposed us opening an online option within our district >> and oppose us with the charter school and it oppose us in so many other ways. So the reality is is choice allows when when the tide rises all boats rise. When there are choice options for families to look at and ensure that they're getting the best educational option for their children, all schools improve. I believe our schools are great choices, too. Um, but but one
046size does not fit all. And and this mentality of we just have to keep everyone. >> The reality is is it's not happening. They're leaving us to look for other options. Let's be a part of finding great options for our kids. >> We can offer them. Yes, that's that goes right along with our We want choice for our parents. You know, like you said, one size does not fit all for every student. >> But I will I will I will probably blow your mind by saying if a child finds a school in Douglas County to be the best fit for them, >> that's okay. >> Yes. >> They deserve that. They parents deserve the opportunity whether it's a charter school, a school in another district, one of our schools, of online school, a home school
047enrichment program. That's what we're about. We're about parental rights and we're not about limiting choice. We're about expanding choice and really providing families that opportunity. So, um, not not being a part of something like this and not having charters and not having online schools doesn't keep your kids. >> No, >> they just go elsewhere. >> And and the reality is is I want to make sure that we offer great options for our families in the district. >> Agreed. >> And I believe our schools are great options. All right. Any further discussion on this one? >> Okay. Can I get a roll call? >> I thought I did. No, I didn't. >> I move that the board approve the attached resolution to join the education revision proceedings. Now, can I get a second? >> Second. >>
048There we go. >> Okay. Can you repeat that discussion? >> You wanted it before the motion. I did it. >> I know. I know. Um, okay. So, can I get a roll call? >> Director Callahan. >> Hi. >> Fletcher. >> Hi. >> Director Olsen. >> Hi. >> Director Pal. >> Hi. >> All right. And with that, we have um board planning, new business. So, our next board of education meeting is actually scheduled on a Monday this time, January 26, 2026, here in the boardroom. And just um so you know, we will have an executive session here that we're working to schedule. Um we do go before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals um in a week, a week from Friday. And so our attorneys would like the opportunity of of briefing and updating the board
049on the legal case. And so just know that that is that is something we're working on. So >> be prepared if anybody wants to come. We'll probably have it seven six seven o'clock. >> Yeah, we're we're and and it probably it it we'll probably be offsite just because we do need our attorneys and and we've got a number of attorneys involved. So, so as soon as we have a date and location, we'll certainly get that shed out. Gotcha. >> Okay. >> All right. So with that, I adjourn this meeting at 6:42 p.m. >> That's a fast one.
