Roll call, please. >> Mr. Alre. >> I. Mr. Alexander. Rotai. Miss. Brady. Hi. >> Mr. Miley. Hi. >> Miss Reese. Hi. >> Motion passes. Next, we have the board members report. Who would like to begin? Sure, I'll kick it off. Um,
had a very busy couple of weeks after some time away um of not being so busy, which has been great. I loved it. Um, I had an opportunity to go to the Rotary lunchon where I got to see one of our students there and participate and engaged in some conversation about the school and some positive things there. Um, we attended the FEDC banquet which was a great opportunity to showcase the Fremont Economic Development Group Corporation. That was great. Two IPRs this week, uh, one Harrison and right here in our home of Harrison, which is great because I had three kids who came through here and so it's great to be a part of that IP. It's actually the first Harrison IPR I had the opportunity to do. I've been to the other schools a lot,
so this was my chance to do this one, which is great. Um and also across the street at Mountain Pecore Knowledge, we did their IPR. Uh this Friday we had a very long and deep conversation about Mr. Adam Hartman's superintendent annual evaluation which was great and good fellowship there. And then we also um on Friday night I had an opportunity to go to the FFA dinner and at Pathfinder. Um, and although Kane City Schools does not have an FFA chapter, because of FMI, which for those who don't know is the Fremont Multi-Dist Initiative, we have opportunities for other schools to come here and for our students to go participate in their programs for enrichment. And because of that, we actually have a couple of our students in the high school who are members of the
FFA. And so, they got an opportunity to be recognized at the chapel there. It's a great fundraiser dinner and uh really had a great time showcasing what we do. >> Thank you, Matt. Uh my schedule was a little light compared to yours. Um I too attended the FEDC dinner and my understanding is that's one of the first times as a school board that we have attended that event and I think that um it was really good for the other people in the economic development realm to see all of us there. And then I too took uh part in the superintendent evaluation which was really an amazing and intentional and uh very motivating experience for me. >> I uh had an opportunity to do two IPRs. I was here in Harrison for this one was a
good time last week. Thanks Lacy for setting up everything and everything that uh that goes on here. Fantastic to have been a part of this school to then see how far they've come. It was really really remarkable and I really appreciated that. Uh before that I did Washington and that one was pretty remarkable as well. Washington has come a long way as well. Um, and it's it's always neat to go into their new building and see all the teachers that are working there and how they're making things uh work and the progress that schools are making. Um, also had the opportunity to go to um guess just one one girls basketball game um two boys basketball games at the high school and looking forward to going to one tomorrow night as well. So, um, other
than what was already mentioned, those are my unique ones. >> I don't think I have much unique. We I also enjoy going to the FDC banquet and spending time with our board and superintendent and the community there. That was great to see. And I loved they honored Terry Cterbury who did so much for our schools over the years. And I always a very special place in my heart. So, I was glad to see that they monitor her. Um, I also was a part of the Harrison IPR team and I I said something similar to this. I I honestly got emotional because I've been doing the IPRs at Harrison for several years and I know that we collectively as a board made a decision to give extra support to this school to try to um to
find its identity and move forward and um it was impactful to see that this school has really found its direction and um and we are such a cohesive co cohesive leadership team that truly um is synergistic. They help each other be better and you can see it. you can see it and you can see it throughout the staff and I was emotional several times during the day but um I just want to say once again publicly how much that what impact that had on me being part of the tour. So thank you and we also got to celebrate Adam Hartman's birthday and we can't sing to him at the IPR thing. So now publicly, happy birthday again, Heather. >> I attended many of the same things as the group. The only thing that I did
outside of all of those things was uh urban renewal authority meetings with the city and some of the special districts in town. So anyway, all right, on to the more joyous I don't know, not more additional joyous items. We have awards and kudos. And this evening, we're honoring the K through5 math resource adoption committee. The board would like to recognize the following committee members for their time, dedication, and thoughtful contributions throughout the K5 math resource adoption process. What a huge project. Thank you to those of you that are here. I'm going to read everyone's name. However, Aaron Cash Washington, and I'm probably going to blow some of these. Amanda Ser Washington Randleman McKinley Brenda Foster CDS Diana Reich Washington it's funny how Neil very reading glasses Eliza Osborne CBS Megan Burl CVS Michelle Kirsten Rene
>> Goodson goodson Thank you. Washington, Renee Waters, Lincoln, Sarah Reynolds, Lincoln, Tammy Jol, Lincoln, and Fisher Lincoln in Washington. So, those of you that are here, we have some certificates and we'd like a picture. So, come on up. Thank you. >> Thank you. You guys get pirates in the back. >> A lot of hard work there. >> Pirates pirates. Get your butt up here. You know what? You guys step in front of us a little bit. >> We'll step in, you're right. >> Two. Thanks guys. Next we have presentation and discussion items with the Harrison group and Lacy. Again, thank you for having us. This is always such a pleasure. >> So, we have um while I'm getting this set up, we have Mr. Weavers and his um a couple of his students from his
skills and trace class. They're going to present about a service learning project that they they during the skills and trades. Um, so I'll let Mark present that a little bit while I'm getting this set up. >> Good evening everybody. Uh, my name is Mark Wevers. I'm the eighth grade ELA teacher and I also treat teach trades and skills class. So this year, instead of doing academic enrichment for middle schoolers, we're teaching them the traits and skills with focus for them to use that in the real life. >> Mr. Could you just hold this only because they're filming it online for people watching? So after we kind of went in depth with all the traits and skills, I wanted to come up with an idea to let them apply those skills and traits. And I wanted
it to be fully student driven. And I pretty much asked them what they wanted to do. And the students came together. They decided they want to put on a winter dance. and we added a special kind of service learning element to that as well. So I asked them what they were interested in raising money for and they wanted to uh donate the funds to fishes after we were done and I think it was a really good opportunity for them to apply some practical application of the traits and skills. Um, and I would just like to speak a little generally about this class. It's went really, really well this year. The students are getting a lot out of it. And in fact, a different class I teach, which is seventh grade, two of them came up
to me a couple weeks ago and they said, "Mr. Weavers, we learned more stuff from this class that we can use in our life than any other class." And I thought that was really insightful for two, 12, 13 year olds to share. So, Miss Leoo asked us to share a presentation about the student driven traits and skills inspired dance that the students put on. And so, today I have two of my students from eighth grade who I have a presentation for you all. Thank you. >> Hello everyone. as Mr. >> I am Christian Lee Robert and this will be our presentation. Um the front cover of this uh dance is about our kind of kids the hearts of hope dance for Valentine's Day. Um and we have Other key details here um like how the
proposal is made, the proposal, the preparing uh the dance and promoting the dance. Uh what we're hoping for the dance, the start of the dance, how the money is going to be raised, the money raised to fishes, and why and why fishes, what the dance is going to be. Uh excuse the skills and traits we use for the the teachers who were uh who were there, the service of Berg and how to put on events, uh why it was student driven, uh what those fishes do, pictures of the dance and after the dance conclusion and so uh we're ready to get into how we started the dance was just by making proposal. We started off by adding some small key details such as what our concessions need. The concessions were popcorn, soda, water, just some
of the natural stuff. Then we also showed Mr. Whis the playlist and the decorations and what they were going to be. We got feedback from Mr. Whis. He adjusted the dance appropriately and And we started off by showing how we could do >> the skills and traits we use. Um during the night of the dance, we use collaboration, communication, agility, agency, innovation, solution, seeking, leadership, knowledge, empowerment, tenacity, integrity, civil, and civil. We learned about them in Mr. Rever's third block 80 uh skills and traits class. And we uh ourselves using them to make the dance possible. >> The preparation for the dance started off by asking Miss a huge shout out to them because of past dances or problems. Basically, some of their decorations got ruined and we wanted to respect her equipment and we
borrowed them for the dance which There was uh snowflakes, farts, and backdrops. And then we made a 2hour long playlist for the entire dance, which it was 100% clean. And we made shirts that dress the dress code, the three. No brass, no buds, no bats. We then made some stuff to we made some adjustments such as the people who are going to play the music and we bought the speakers from Miss Simma which those are highly valuable the execution of the dance to execute the Christmas and Valentine's dance which hasn't happened yet. Our committee will uh transform the upper and lower into an immersive experience using a strategic layout. Key elements include a themed illuminated entrance photo backdrop that matches our color sheet. M was managed by our one of one of our more enthusiastic
teachers focusing on saving while teachers while student volunteers handle logistics. including the high v visibility checking desk at Shepard station. All decor prioritiz safety utilizing fire safe materials and ensure clear walkways to foster an engaging guest peer environment. There was also concessions as we've already said uh student driven agency leadership agility and soliciency. This school dance was not merely a social gathering but also a robust studentdriven project designed to foster authentic agency leadership and professional skill development by empowering students to take ownership of the budget logistics and we were cultivating agility requiring uh them to pivot solve problems and reassign and adapt and adapt to changing circumstances rather than relying on top down instruction. instructions. This initiative students from passive participants to active solution seeking leaders providing a practical high stakes environment where they learn
to collaborate, take risks and deliver a successful environ event that strengthens our learning not to put on an event which this is what we learn the project management and the logistics. We plan by budgeting, marketing and executing the event which taught the cost that business how to manage our time and organization. We also have leadership and teamwork which this was coordinating with committees such as Sigma Money and other people around the school and we were also communicating effectively to understand each other's problems which that also leads into the social emotion skills. We develop empathy because we felt for each other and understood what was going through each other's head by communicating what's going on. We also learned fundraising, how to fund raise, learning how to like generate funds, which we ended up giving to loves
and fishes. And this let some stress and relief from certain students and letting them have a fun and carefree time at the dance. Why loen fishes gives to the homeless and our own school community. Losen finishes ministries such as in city and other regions provide for the homeless to fulfill a mission of sharing compassion, offering the need and meeting basic physical needs like food and shelter. They seek to empower individual individuals, foster community and offer a holistic approach to help people through challenging times by treating people with respect rather than just providing handouts. They get to create a supportive loving environment. Lowe's and fishes helps our school community with a backpack food program. We so we just wanted to give back for all the good they do for everyone. >> How we raised the which
was first off, we started off with the tickets. To pre-exert the dance, you had to the tickets were $2 to pre-order, but at the stand to get in that dance was $4. Why we did that is because to pre-order it is easier to get. This also helps loss and fishes with budgeting and helping them help their own community. This will also help the people in need such as the homes. And after the Christmas dance, we raised over $700 in cash. We gave it to them when it came to the day they came to our school, which they brought a guest speaker. She talked about what she was going through and how she solved that problem of violence and vicious. The shower rooms at the dance there was eight chaper which were the teachers for obvious
reasons. So kids didn't wander off to public areas and >> there like done in previous years. So they were there to prevent such things from being done and shower rooms uh showed the support of the teachers and students from both sides. This helped students get more shaper so we could have we could have helped the teachers who showed up was EJ or Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Whis was a huge help. So Mr. We miss Sunny, Miss Richardson, and Miss Leoo. And the reason why they showed up was because they wanted to see the kids grow their mindset, have a fun time, and just to protect them from things such as before. the roles that played in the making of this dance and how it helped all the grades six. There were five main roles such as
project leaders, playlist creator, entertainment/ logistics, marketing, promotion and careers. Service learning and those fishes of uh learning how to put on an event, serving those who serve the community and learning about impersonating those fishes. And um here's our uh class mixture with lumps and fishes. Um and uh we already explained why they came. Here are some of the pictures from the dance. These were some of the kids who showed up at the dance and photo was showed at the previous slide. Conclusion, the dance improved mental health because we were hanging out with friends. It also helped us improve social skill and uh dances can help big organizations that do good for homeless and the people who need the help and they can get more money to help the homeless even more. Program work. Doing more
dances can also help us raise more money for field trips and help our school get better equipment such as player equipment and Even though the middle schoolers who don't have equipment like the elementary schoolers do and have instead of having to sit outside come up with their own fun things to do. Finally, doing dances can be helpful to a huge population of people such as kids who don't like and can go out to do more fun things and find new interest because our school raised money to get us more field trips and new equipment like we said and encourage new to our learning system better. >> Thank you for listening to the presentation. We hope you liked it. Questions. I didn't have a question, but I did have a comment and I wanted to come
to you gentlemen because I know it was written in the present tense and you changed it to the past tense while you were reading it just like that. So, huge kudos to you guys for that >> and we would like a picture with you guys. >> So, wait. So, has the we were talking about two different We had a Christmas dance, but we're going to have a Valentine. >> Yeah, we're going to have a Valentine dance, which is going to also fall raise money for fishing again. >> Great. Have you gone through the process? Is it approved? Has M. Leoo said we're going forward? >> Yes, we have gone through the process. Miss Leoo and Mr. Le has both have approved it. So, we're right now in the process of making the Valentine's dance. The
Christmas dance was a huge success as well. >> If we didn't say it already, we uh raised $730 something dollars to for those fishes. >> Okay. Please. Okay. two. >> Thank you. I don't know if you remember, but the guy last year. This was my second time. >> All right, Mr. Lano, request to address the board of education. Do we have anyone this evening? >> No. >> Thank you, Mr. Hartman. Superintendence report. >> I have a number of things to share with you, but I'll try in all of the this year. Mr. Get closer. I'm getting a signal for you. >> Yes. Is that better? >> Yes. Thank you. Um, we do we do eight and we're group four, but we really because a lot of the heavy work takes place after we've gone through
the process of being in the schools and now giving feedback back to the building to make sure the language feels just right. But I will say I I'm actually disappointed that we have two weeks without them. I enjoy those things. I know that it's a lot of work, but it's been a lot of fun with Lincoln, Washington, Mountain View, and then the one that's been discussed a lot here and I was just last week. So, that's been keeping me busy dinner. I think you're probably right, Carla. I certainly know in my time that we hadn't done that with the board. It was my pleasure to actually bring together not only our elected board directors, but also a number of the directors that come from the executive cabinet. I thought that was a lot of fun.
So, thank you for that. The following night I spent with Ryan Brown and what I think was the vast majority of the Canon City Police Department at their new thanks. New coming from New Year, thank coming from Thanksgiving and the MAS mask coming from Christmas. This is a hybrid opportunity. I don't know if they made up that term or if that's something if it's used elsewhere, but really for a beginning of year looking back celebrated the previous year. I serve on a number of different boards throughout the community. The work on third watch is one that I've really enjoyed. This is yes about shop with shop and cop. There's that. Yes, we do some work for their canine work, but a whole lot of stuff is actually around supporting the people on the police department.
We are well supported by the police department and it's fun to be able to be part of almost an oversized sunshine fund that they work through was called members benefits. So that's what that was that evening. Um I for not the entire evening but there most of the evening and really enjoyed that and it was a pleasure to represent the school district and I certainly was there and happened to be there to recognize officer St. Louis who was commended for completing a master's degree that I didn't know he needed to be working on but then also officer chain and officer St. on a number of different things that throughout the year. I can tell that this the distinction of SRO is a distinction amongst the people on the force and just appreciated those guys. Um
the following Monday they did paper screening. What I mean by that is application screening on two really important leadership positions in the school district that are building the transition. So in a second we did paper for the Lincoln Elementary principal ship. I'll get back to that in a moment as well as paper for the safety and safety and security position. So it was nice to watch those committees do their work and I was pleased by the size as well as the quality of the application tools that we had. The more you get often times the more high quality you get because you have so much to choose from. So that was good work on the tube. Um, last week at the end of the week I made good on a commitment to go visit a
school in Colorado Springs that was joined by director Davis. It was interesting to see what these folks are up to and actually really got my brain going around what is possible and what we're accomplishing here in Canyon City. But that particular school is called the Colorado Springs School of Technology. It's in the vision of district 11. So it's part of the public school district. District 11 is the large metropolitan school district, but it's housed space that's actually owned by MCCS and partially occupied by some folks who work in cyber security as well as aerospace and they're two really doing some fascinating things on blending metal alliance between similar to what we do between high school college workbased learning pretty impressive they do have innovation status they are able to do some things that are pretty
flexible but they also provide busing and hot meals so pretty encouraged overall to find other examples like that particular connection came through their leader coming to Canyon and being part of the Fremont multi- district initiative and then my desire to go work from them as well. So just a nice compliment kind of regional strength and then I did wanted to say that today we were able to make good on one of those hiring panels with a position that we were able to go through. We saw some excellent candidates excited about what lies ahead with our safety and security position. Mr. Morton's a nice job leading that process and he'll continue to do so. Obviously I'm not naming names or otherwise put it up and working about Canyon City Schools. Um when you see people who
want to be part of something and they bring this level of skill to the table is something and that's my report. >> All right. Next we have some policy work. The first one is file AC discrimination and equal opportunity presented to the board first reading and first vote. It's an update of current policy from HR Director Jamie Davis. Policy aligns definitions with the Colorado Power Act standards. I have a motion, please. >> I move we approve AC non-discrimination equal opportunity. >> Second. >> Have a motion and a second. I move that we resend file AC-R1 non-discrimination equal opportunity complaint and compliance process. >> I second that motion. >> I have a motion and a second. Is there further discussion? Next we file JICDE bullying prevention education and response presented to the board for first reading and first vote update to current policy from special services director Tim Ren to comply with state law. 036development, annual review and distribution of staff and student handbooks to ensure alignment with board adopted policies and administrative regulations and formalized superintendent oversight and board access to all published handbooks. That's for information. We'll vote on that at the next meeting. We have no old business, but we do have some new business. The first action item is CCHS graduation credit requirement amendment. It's recommended that the board of education approve a revised set of graduation requirements to Canyon City for Canyon City High School. May I have a motion, please? >> I move that we approve the Canyon City High School graduation credit requirement. >> Uh second. >> Have a motion and a second. Is there further discussion? hearing none. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Albbright I. >> Mr. Alexander votes I. Miss Brady >> I. >> Mr.
Miley. >> And Miss Reer. >> Motion passes. Next we have resolution for the inclusion of a statewide Oh, that's the one that's Sorry. Apologize. I should have marked it off. Next, we have proposed district calendar for 25 through 27 school year. It's recommended that the board approve the proposed Canyon City Schools calendar for the 2026 27 academic year. May I have a motion, please? >> Alen to accept the proposed district calendar for the 2026 2027 school year. >> I second. >> I have a motion and a second. Further discussion hearing none. I'd just like to take a minute to thank the comm the committee. This is a really difficult process for any district to figure out with all the needs throughout the entire district community and I know um it was a painful process and
it always takes a lot of effort and I appreciate what the committee did to come up with this. >> Okay. Did we have a second? >> Yes. >> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Albright. So, roll call, please. >> Mr. Mr. Albreight >> I >> Mr. Alexander votes I Miss Brady >> I >> Mr. My I uh Miss Reese >> I >> motion passes. Next we have Eureka Math K through five math resource adoption. It's recommended the board approve minds Eureka Math to be adopted. Oh god you guys. I need to bring reading glass. I hate this. My recent surgery has eliminated my ability to read the agenda. It's recommended the board approve Great Mind's Eureka Math to be adopted as the new K through5 district math curriculum. May I have a motion, please? >> I move
that we vote to approve Eureka Math for K5 math resource and adopt it. >> I second that motion. >> I have a motion and a second. Further discussion hearing? None. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Albbright. >> I. Mr. Alexander votes I. Miss Brady. I >> Mr. Miley >> I >> and Miss Reer >> I motion passes. Thank you Mrs. Zamara also for that massive K through five curriculum adoption. All right with no further business before the board. I do want to thank you again Lacy. >> Thank you again Lacy. Pencil.
