There you Okay, that's true. I'd like to call the Canyon City Schools School Board meeting to order. It's Monday, December 8th, 2025, and it's 5:30ish. I'd like to begin with the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Roll call, please. Mr. Alexander. >> Mr. Albbright, >> here. >> Mr. Alexander, present. Miss Brady, >> present. >> Mr. Miley, >> present. >> And Miss Reer >> here. Thank you. Uh, Mr. Hartman, do we have any changes to the agenda? >> We do. 2B3A under appointments. There is one addition. >> Thank you, Mr. Hartman. May I >> sorry to Robin. >> Okay. Thank you. May I have a motion to

approve the agenda as amended? >> I move we approve the agenda as amended. >> Second. >> I have a motion and a second. Further discussion hearing? None. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Albbright. >> I. >> Mr. Alexander votes I. Miss. Brady. I >> Mr. Miley >> I >> and Miss Reer >> I. >> Next we have the consent agenda. Is there a board director that would like to pull anything off for further consideration? Hearing none. Roll call, please. Oh, wait. I have a motion. >> I move we accept the consent agenda. >> Thank you. >> I second. >> I have a motion and a second. Sorry, I got ahead of myself. >> Good. Uh, any further discussion hearing? None. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Albbright, >> I. >> Mr. Alexander votes I. Miss. Brady. >>

I. >> Mr. Miley. >> Hi, >> Miss Reer. >> I. >> Next, we have board members report. Who would like to begin? >> I kick it off. Um, pretty short. Um, I got an opportunity to go over to Mountain View Corn, which even though it's not necessarily in our district, we do partner with them. Um, and uh I got an invitation from Dana Horn and we got to go see uh the work that her class had done and they turned the whole room into a medieval castle and they had turrets and they had cannons that they threw cannonballs through and they showed how the castle was built and they each did their own piece and their own research project on individual castles and how they worked and what etiquette was like in the medieval times

and it was just a really really neat hands-on experience for the kids. Kids were super excited. Parents were involved. So that was a fun opportunity to go see that. Um obviously we had compass committee um meet and to discuss plans for the IPR um which was great. And then u um got to go to the Christmas parade not associated with the school board but it was fun to always see so many kids and that was the highlight. I got to walk through the parade and um uh it was awesome. I just I I didn't even pay attention to the parents. I was just like merry Christmas to all these kids and these kids were just so excited. My daughter was driving our float with a Jeep and uh the kids would get all excited, get

all excited, honk the Jeep, honk the Jeep. So she'd honk the horn and the kids would just cheer and it's just it just made such an awesome time. Just love seeing the Canyon City kids out there. So it was awesome. >> Okay, go ahead, Carla. >> Um let's see. I attended the compass committee as well and I also was at the Christmas parade and I'm looking forward to a couple of more holiday events at local schools this month. >> Um I feel like a slacker. I don't have much to say. I went to the compass committee meeting. I couldn't go to the medieval um times because I was out of town. And um I did choreograph and work with the show choirs at the high school and I'm excited to go to the fine art

of Christmas tonight and see how well they remember what I showed them what to do. So I don't have much either. I went to the Christmas parade as well. It's good to see our bands and and educational uh floats that are in it and JROTC obviously as well. Um and I'll see you at fine arts as well. be like only I'm not working. >> So I'll just be brief. Compass committee Steinmeire. I'm sure you're all tired of hearing that particular word. We had an urban renewal authority meeting at the city on Wednesday of last week that was very enlightening. And I met with Mr. Hartman and Amy Schmisher, city council member, regarding um some opportunities for our students at the Royal Gorge Bridge. That's what I got. So anyway, thanks guys. I appreciate all of

you awards and kudos this evening. Mr. Oliver, we have some middle school recognitions this evening. >> We didn't move it out. Sorry. >> You want somewhere else? >> Maybe moved out a little ways. Perfect. Thank you, Mr. Hartman. Okay, we can go through there, but don't go far. And our next one for October is Noah Thornton. Come here, Noah. How are buddy? All right. This is Noah Thornton, also a seventh grader with us at CCMS. Noah carries a 4.0 GPA. Um, parents here with him, Shane and Jennifer Thornton. Wave to mom and dad back there. Here we go. Okay. Um, Noah was uh nominated by essentially the entire seventh grade team. Now, there's a lot on here, so I'm going to say some just some things that your teachers had to say about you, Noah.

Your hard work has resulted in clear academic success, which is inspiring to everyone around you. You approach every task with a positive attitude, and you show respect to your peers. Mr. Keller says, "I appreciate the sense of humor and friendliness with which you show in class every day." Uh, Miss Scaleri, Noah, you are wonderful to teach. You always contribute positively to the class discussions and are a great participant. Miss Goldenberg, Noah, I'm so proud of you and the way you continue to grow and set a strong example to your peers. Um, so that is essentially from the entire seventh grade team. Noah's shout out was simple. You just said, "Dad." So, Mr. Thornton back there, you're doing a great job with this young man. Um, Noah, thanks for being part of CCMS, buddy. Okay. Um,

November. Breck Baxter. Breck, come here. All right. It's seventh grade heavy tonight, guys. Um, Breck is also a seventh grader with us. Uh, 3.56 GPA. Um, Courtney and Henry Baxter, we here one. There we go. Mom's here. Okay. Um, and here are some things that this seventh grade demed to say. Breck, you are positive and uplifting. Um, I love watching you in class, working through complex math problems, or patiently helping one of your peers. Um, Noah, you're a phenomenal or sorry, Breck, you're a phenomenal student who brings valuable insights to our class discussions, quietly leading others to put forth their best efforts. Your compassion is nothing short of inspiring. No matter what's going on in your own life, you continue to show empathy, patience, and genuine care for the people around you. Those are some

pretty cool things to be said by a bunch of teachers. Okay, Bre, thanks for being part of CCMS. Your shout out was to mom. You've always been very supportive and I love you very much. That's what he told me. Well, thanks, sir. You brick. Okay, don't go far. And Cameron Kovac, come here. Okay, Cameron as well is a seventh grader, 4.0 GPA. Um, Chelsea and Harvey, you're back here. There they are. Mom and dad. Um, so this seventh grade percussionist demonstrates exceptional tenacity and thoughtful problem solving every time she encounters a challenging part in her music. Cameron approaches her learning with quiet determination, taking true ownership for her progress and consistently seeking solutions rather than shortcuts. Your dedication to mastering your instrument reflects a level of commitment that elevates not only your musical talent, but

the exceptions or the expectations of our program. While all the band students work hard, Mr. Green wishes everyone worked as hard as you. It would all sound better. Thank you for being part of our band and the school. Thanks, Cameron. Okay, you guys didn't go for it. Now you got to come back up for pictures. Thank you intentional skills and traits. All right. Next, we have some standard operating procedures. We'll get through those pretty quick since we don't need to vote. First one is file SOP 612, return employment, presented to the board for information to resend. This is because the uh SOP is addressed or updated in the master agreement. The second one is file SOP618 classified employment initiated transfer process also presented to the board for information to resend for the same reason it's

uh addressed or updated in the master agreement. And then finally, file SOP 620, classified employee job reclassification process, presented to the board for information to resend, also for the same reason it's addressed or updated in the master agreement. All right. Next, we have a presentation with our director of operations, Scott Morton. >> I'm scoot back here just because it's weird. I know you got >> Do they make you nervous, Mr. Morton? >> Negative. Not a problem at all. All right. Well, thank you for having me. Um, I'm always happy to come and do an update on what we're doing in operations. And so my slide that I've got to stare at for the last 10 minutes has been great because like the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, the operations department is full of

experts in the field and we all strive to the same goal. What do we do? We do a lot in operations. We have maintenance, grounds, transportation, warehouse purchasing, custodial, safety and security, nutritional services, and new construction. Here are our goals. We want to maintain a high quality appearance of each building, maintain high levels of safety at each building, maintain facilities and equipment to prevent costly repairs, and then create a healthy climate controlled environment to promote student and staff well-being. That is probably the most challenging out of all of them because everyone has their own idea of what perfect comfort is. Okay. So, how do we support the strategic plan? Our two main focuses, although I think we could argue that we have some some dabbling in the others, but our two big ones are priority

two people. So recognizing our field experts, like I referenced earlier, we have experts in our field for their hard and oftentimes behind the-scenes work that keeps our district in pristine shape. Too often, I feel like our department is the the man behind the curtain, right? We're the Wizard of Oz. Okay? A lot of times what we do, nobody notices because that's a good thing. If we're doing our job right, you really shouldn't know we're there. And then priority four, resources, being good stewards of our materials and financing to stretch our budget to the fullest. All right, so in maintenance, let's take a little a little deeper dive. Our daily work completion. So we work with HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, repairs, new projects. Our regular inspections and compliance fall under our category in maintenance. So

fire inspection, health inspections, storm water, elevators, CDE, oil inspections, which includes boilers, fuel storage, etc. Um, and then backflow prevention. That's a big part of our maintenance work. Grounds were mowing, trimming, irrigation controls, snow removal. Although the entire operations team really does help with snow removal, um it really falls undergrounds is the official category, landscaping projects, so trees and fencing, and then field prep. We do have some of the most pristine playing fields, I feel like, in our area. Um and so we're very proud of those transportation. We have daily bus routes, we have field trips, athletic and activity travel, routine vehicle maintenance, and our annual inspection. So we we look at our white fleet and our yellow fleet. So white fleet is every fleet vehicle that's like a maintenance truck. Yellow fleet is every

vehicle that can transport kids. So even though my truck is white, it's still yellow because mine is certified to transport kids if we have to. So I've given up my truck on multiple occasions to send it to Springs because we have a vehicle down. And so that's one of those things different white and yellow fleet. All right. Warehouse. So, we're in charge of purchasing, receiving, and delivery of packages and mail. Every single item of mail goes through our warehouse. So, even if it says 1313 College, it comes to 10:30 South Fourth Street and then we disperse it out. And that's due to the fact that we have to make sure that we're inventorying product. A lot of things come in purchase orders. So, we want to make sure that our inventory is correct. We support

custodial. So we support training, supplies, equipment, evaluation support, time sheets, absent management, safety and security. We supervise the district safety and security coordinator. So we're a part of the standard response protocol support, emergency situation response, reunification, exercise planning, fire and health inspections, and then the elevator safety inspections. Nutritional services. We supervise district um nutrition manager. We support ordering and budgeting. We support evaluations and training. We inventory all the product that comes in and leaves. It goes through our warehouse. So we have all those and then we help support the free meals for all. All right. So let's dig into some of our projects. This is the fun part. So the high school projects. So we always have our routine maintenance. There's always something that gets broke. It's part of life, right? We have kids in

our building. We have adults, we have people. We also worked on the gym floor coding. Like I said, we have some of the best playing services in in the area. And part of that is taking care of our gym floors as well. Made some sidewalk repairs, some electrical panel upgrades. We continue to work on that ice storage system that's down in the basement. That's going to help us with that on peak off- peak demand for HVAC. The AC academic wing opened and it's gorgeous. We're also in the process of new construction for counseling and admin and our stadium is they're digging trenches right now. So, we're getting ready to lay fire line um for the fire hydrants that's in process. CCMS continued routine maintenance, irrigation repairs. There's always something that's leaking, so we got to

fix it. Just happens. There's a lot of water that flows. Gym floor coating, courtyard safety paint. We always refresh that because we want to make sure we keep that section safe. did some tree replanting and made some plumbing repairs. Our Harrison project continued to work on routine maintenance, gym floor coating. It's still one of my favorite floors in the in the district. It is gorgeous. Um ice storage system there is the same as the one at the high school. It's just outside out back. We got a smart irrigation upgrades. That's probably the biggest field we irrigate on city water because we don't have ditch rights up there. Whereas the high school, it's a huge field, but most of the time it's ditch. So, it's a little different. So, we want to make sure that we're

using those smart irrigations to support that. We always have irrigation repairs, parking lot repairs, and supporting some equipment repair on the playground. CES. So, routine maintenance, parking lot repairs, the gravel drive repair, and new construction planning. That is Hannah Drummond. She's from Wolves. She is very proud. That was her big project that she did by herself. So, I told her I was going to give her a huge shout out. So, she oversees the recording. Hannah, great job. >> It's absolutely gorgeous. Send it to her. Yeah. Um, she did a great job. she couldn't make it down. But um I wanted her to know that we appreciated her hard work on that as her first big um design. Lincoln projects, routine maintenance, gym floor coating, which is actually the cafeteria, right? So that was taken care

of. Cabinet repairs, new construction, irrigation repair in the fire lane that's in process. We are um updating that that irrigation line that runs north and south. We found another one in there. Then they crossed. It's been an interesting um experience. That's a good word for it. Blacktop Court and Striping. Um they have a gorgeous new play area out back the cafeteria air handling supports. Um as we dug into some of that renovation, we found that that air handlers were um installed and it was just not as not as secure as we would prefer. So, we went back in and did some some welding to the frame and got that up to up to code. Cafeteria refinish is actually scheduled for thanks or Christmas break. So, we'll take all those stripes off the cafeteria floor and

when they come back after Christmas break, it'll be just like McKenzie. So, it'll be a new new surface for them. And then we're going to do some stage light install summer of 2026. So, that's it's ordered. It's ready. We just there's too many moving parts and we didn't want to mess up the floor in process. So, we wanted to get that going. Washington, we have routine maintenance, gym floor coding, electrical repairs, which is kind of funny as a new build. It's only three years old. There are issues with some of the electrical equipment that was purchased in that build. So, we're we're routinely changing things out. Um, some of the stuff has been outdated, which is weird. It's only three years old, but it's outdated. So, we're working through that. playground equipment repairs, concrete pour,

and additional storage shed, which actually came from Operation Sudden Impact. So, the one they built on the field is the one I bought for them at a discounted price. So, that worked out well. That was great partnership with um Dreamwood Cabins and and those guys out there. McKinley routine maintenance, McKinley preschool playground work, cabinet creation for pre preschool classrooms, cafeteria floor refinish and coating, black top court and striping that fire lane is actually paved whereas Lincoln has to stay um compacted gravel and then new construction as you've been in the gym it's been a great space. Interesting fact, when we worked through our survey work for McKinley, we found that there is an alley right ofway running through the middle of it. So, if you picture door three, which used to be Amy Williamson's classroom

when I was there, that's basically where that thing runs all the way to the back of the lot. It's been there since the 60s, right? But the county sees it as there's an actual alley on their paperwork. So, we've been working through that. We've sent certified letters. We've posted it on site. We've posted it to um the daily record. I had a meeting with planning and zoning on the 3rd of um December. It went really well. And then we have one more with the county commissioners on January 13th. Then we should be clean and it should get registered and then it goes away. But it's been an interesting um we've learned a lot and we have an alley that doesn't do anything. drives through the building. Even the guy at the zoning was like, "It's

been there since the 60s." Yeah. Then why are we here? I don't know. You guys told me I had to be here. Right. So, we're here because of Ryan. All right. I wasn't going to go there, but thank you. All right. >> I appreciate that. access center projects, routine maintenance as always, workforce housing projects, and we just processed a big um invoice for them um this morning. So, we're getting some stuff moving um for those next two units coming. We did a bathroom remodel on the Choice Point side um for our IT team especially. We did it for Choice Points, too. But, you know, our brothers and sisters in it live there, so we took care of that. And then word got around so we're remodeling the other side the echo come summer. So you

know that's just how things go. Admin building routine maintenance. We're continuing to work on the fire and dress system. Irrigation repairs. Um drywall repairs and painting. Bathroom counters were replaced. And we've updated the paint in those restrooms as well. And I got a new work order for some new blinds that are coming. So that's in progress. Warehouse projects. Routine maintenance. We repainted the office. It's no longer um purple. It is officially uh Dodgers blue and gray. It looks great. Floor refinishing. Um we updated the labeling system for all inventory items. That's an ongoing process. We we're trying to weed out things that we don't need, especially with the world having uh Amazon. We can get things really quick for a lot cheaper than what we used to be able to buy things in bulk. Uh

we also take care of the forklift and pallet annual service. And there's our regular use of our food truck transportation routine maintenance completion of those CDE transportation inspections transverses that digital system that we use to design all of our routes that's in progress. And we did some fuel island repair. If you didn't know, we have two 38 um 100gallon fuel tanks, one for diesel and one for um unled. We purchase all our stuff tax exempt. So that really helps our our fuel costs. um we get to slide in under that, but that requires us to have all those inspections and make sure that our fuel island is working up to standard current and upcoming diff projects. So, we have deferred maintenance budget neutral project that we're working with Schneider. Um we are entering in the

measurement and verification process very early stages, but we're starting to see data roll out and they're going to start creating um some formats that we can present to you. um they're itching to come talk to you guys about what we've got going on. Um but we really wanted to get our our feet under us before we started to to put things on paper. So that's that three-year guaranteed savings. We will get $6.7 million total savings over the 20 years, which is a great way for us to innovate responsibly. And we have an energy resource manager. part of our uh program with Schneider is they will help analyze all of our bills and help us and they'll present reports to me saying, "Hey, Scott, you've seen a huge increase in this. They just completed a plug

audit over Thanksgiving break. So, they went through the whole district to see what's plugged in, where do we have extra things?" And then they're going to come back and give us a report that says, "Hey, this is what you have in your buildings and this is what it's costing you." So that it can help us make some decisions moving forward. All right. upcoming other projects. Phase two is in progress. If you build it, they will come. So, we have two more uh tiny homes that are in progress. One's already ready online. It's ready to move in hopefully soon, this month. Um and so we have those other two coming at Access and then we'll start doing some landscaping pieces once we get them kind of out of the way. Um we didn't want to waste

money on landscaping until we knew we were at a closer part to finish. So that is the 600 foot single bedroom bristle comb model. That's the 852bedroom asped model. Moving forward. So summer 26 we have still a lot of construction going on. So we have at the high school counseling admin suite stadium upgrades. We're going to redo the auditorium stage and the curtain. And we're working on the snack bar renovation as well. McKinley's going to get hallway carpet and a paint refresh. Lincoln will get um the new gym hallway carpet and paint refreshed going through there. And then CES will have hallway and cafeteria flooring done as well. So, we got a lot still going on. It feels like we're done, but we're not. We got a lot. And there's our wing. And you'll see

kind of in the gray section, that's what the counseling um admin suite will look like with the learning center closer to the glass. It's going to be amazing. This is the floor plan of the new stadium upgrade. So, the paw, if you look under Jamie, behind Jaime's head, we'll have that's the entrance into the ticket booth. And so, this is facing north. So, it's plan north, but it's also north on the actual project. you'll see that we have two huge um gang restrooms and then two singleuse family style bathrooms as well. Then if you move to plan west, we have the concessions area which will have new upgraded stainless everything inside and have a new flow of traffic. Then we've also been able to add an officials room off to the side so then they're

not being escorted. So if you've ever seen any of those contentious games, those are not the most popular people. So, we're trying to give them a way where we don't have to like physically escort them off property. Um, and so they'll have a changing area in there as well. Um, it'll have some storage and some food prep and it is going to be gorgeous. We're very excited. All right. So, how did we get here? We have the A team. So, I wanted to um bring to your attention, I know you know these names, but it's very important to recognize the people behind it that are actually the real reason why we're having success. Um, as a team locally, we do the minimal stuff. We're we're writing POS. We're doing this. This team here though is

really the reason why we're so successful. So, huge shout out to Dusty Black, who by the way just drove down just for this presentation. So, thank you Dusty and Ryan and Dallas. They're both from Wimber. Um, great team. I've been very blessed to have all three of those guys in our corner every single day. Um, Ryan's schedule. I'm taking the week of Christmas off to be with my girls. Ryan will be on site dealing with some some project stuff. Like that's how well they take care of us. So, um, it's huge. They've been a huge blessing. The architectural firm is W Architects and Engineers. So, Josh Ger, Matt Rogers, Evan Lugo, Michael Cloff. Um, we talked about Kathleen Hartman and Hannah Drummond. They were both uh big, but without that team, we would still not

have the vision to move forward. Um, Three Rocks locally, Alex and Brandon, um, have been huge help in our work. Um, Brandon was there with me when we presented to the county and he'll be there again when we present to the county commissioners. Um, he was a great great source and I didn't realize until I sat next to him in the meeting that he was Glenn's kid. I was like, "Huh, that's interesting. I didn't know that." Even after I wrote the presentation, didn't put two and two together. And then our general contractor, none with Vinnie Mativ, Brandon Albbright, Kelly Briggs, Nick Serby, Tim Vincy, Thomas Vincy, the list could go on. Truly, the amount of people that have been on our team, the true A team of of projects have really been the reason why

our projects are so great. So, huge huge thank you to all of them. >> May I interrupt you for just a moment? Yes, ma'am. >> You are also part of the A team, Mr. Morton, and we appreciate you very much. >> Thank you. I appreciate it. >> How did we find success? It was constant communication. I'm on the phone or I'm emailing Dusty at 6 a.m. We're We're blowing each other up. It's late at night, Colin, Ryan, whoever it is, right? We're we're constantly in communication. Um, organized. That's I think the thing I really loved about our team is they're organized. I'm very OCD. Like when I set up my classroom as a teacher, I used a laser level. That's like straight lines. That's how I That's how I work. So having someone I know

having somebody and a team like that that's similar has been huge because we're we're all on the same page. We're all working in the same direction. We're always collaborating constantly. Um it's communication between the contractor. It's constant communication with the architects, with the owners reps. Dan and I are in meetings all the time together. So, we're always we're talking together because it's so much that lives in both areas. I'm like, it's not my lane, but my boy Dan's got it. Like, let's talk about it. And so, we're we're always working together. And then strategic planning. We've had a really solid plan from day one and we continue to set goals and milestones and we keep working through those and we have um come a long way under budget and on time. I think we're going

to get to do some other pretty cool stuff um as we get closer to the end. So, good stewardship is something that's important to me in our department. So, we continuously price an uh do a price analysis to find the best pricing for all our products. Like I said earlier, Amazon is a huge You should see my list of Amazon purchases because people need stuff all the time and I can get it in two days and I don't have to sit on it for two years and hope it gets used. So, we're able to use that. We have contractor accounts. We use bids go. So, that's Colorado bids. So, that's um a group of vendors that come together and guarantee that they have state approved pricing. And so, we can go directly to them. Um

that's actually where we ended up getting the two IT vans that we'll pick up next week hopefully um at state pricing. Um we continue to search for state pricing opportunities in other places. We do competitive bidding and we bulk purchase. Um, we just bought a semi full of paper just before Thanksgiving. Yeah. Um, but again, bulk, right? It saved us a lot of money and so we store it in the warehouse. I found a lot of different places to stash, you know, 26 pallets of paper and so we'll sit on it and we'll we'll hold on to it until we need it. We we like to recycle and reuse as much as we can. We advocate for fair fees. Um that is constant collaboration with our our vendors. That's communication with our local utilities. Um

we did some cool work with um with Fremont Sanition District the other day in collaboration to really get to the same get on the same page. We're doing the same thing with Black Hills Energy. Really just trying to make sure that we have um the fairest service. I uh every year I try to shop our trash service. I met with our team at the time from Republic and said or I was working with Republic. I reached out to Twin and Envirro and said,"I would like to pursue, can you do better pricing?" They said, "Hey, call us back and we'll call you in a week." They called me in a week and said, "Hey, just so you know, we just bought them. You're now ours." I'm like, "Okay, great." And they said, "But that's fine. We're

still going to meet in a couple months. Let us get things going and then we'll meet to talk about better pricing." So, we're constantly searching that. And then I like to balance my checkbook. This is just a snapshot of my monthly budget analysis that I reconcile over 120 budget accounts that I'm constantly tracking to see where we're at. Always working with with my business services pals. Um we're cross referencing. They actually came up with a another report that I didn't even ask for, but I'm like this is great. It cross references and then I can see we're on the same page. That's exactly what it is. Um so a lot of behind the scenes. Another great resource is our people. So the oper operations team has regular monthly gatherings to enjoy a meal time together

and we meet as a team. I think we're getting together Thursday to sample some new tacos or something that food service is going to start selling. Um we like to get together for pizza or burritos. Um the operations team and IT teams are working to bring teams together because we're stronger together than we are in silo departments and we plan to have regular lunchons and build cohesion. We just went bowling as a team last just before Thanksgiving. Um they love it. Before we became directors together, there was a lot of silo, a lot of separate not our problem, that's your problem. And now it's like, hey, they're constantly calling each other. I don't we don't even have to drive it now. It's like, hey, I called your your carpenter and we need to it's great.

They're doing it. So, um we call our team optics. operations technology and look forward to partnership moving forward. Optics enjoys friendly competition like I said in bowling and then Dan and I will actually present this work at Wintercase. So we're pretty proud that we were selected to share um the cool things we're doing with optics. Okay, detailed operations scope of work for each position. So we have um it kind of started with Jaime's work when they did their kind of breakdown of what department looked like and how they each had their roles. So, it's a little bit of a bigger lift in ours because we have so many people, but we feel like it's so important to make sure that we minimize that single point of failure. So, we are um looking at each position

and filling out exactly what that looks like on a daily basis, a weekly basis, a monthly basis, and a year. So, then we can have a plan. So, we're also crossraining to add depth of knowledge between trade partners. So, we'll send the electrician with the plumber and and kind of do this cross trainin stuff, which is important because we're starting to get to the point where we have several um retired members of my team. And so, we're trying to cross train as much as we can before they really ride off into the sunset. Um we have our optics partners. We're always working with them. We um have some professional development opportunities. I was fortunate enough to go to a locksmith academy um back in November and so I can officially pick locks now. It's pretty

cool. I'm still working on the bigger ones, but I've got the little ones down. It's pretty cool. Um, so that was one thing that was one of my goals professionally was to add my knowledge of locksmithing because my locksmith is one of those that's on the edge of riding off into the sunset. We have HVAC training and certifications. My HVAC guy has gone to school. Um, some additional stuff to to get certified and free on, which is something we've always had to pay to go out and get done. Um so he's working on that and then we have strategic retirement planning. So setting timelines for that cross trainining to build that internal capacity and detailed daily duties to create a roadmap for success. Questions? Actually I did. Yeah. Um you had mentioned the trash. I

know that most people since Apex has has taken over the monopoly um massive increases on that. Are are we expecting a a huge increase? They're going to honor some old prices for Yes. >> We currently uh they're currently maintaining what our current pricing is and they know that I wasn't happy with it. So, they're going to negotiate help us negotiate it down. So, >> that's awesome. >> They've been dying to get our account for a very long time. >> That's really good. I know that they have raised a lot of rates like 25 and 30%. So, >> yeah, >> there is a new company called Red Rocks. I don't know handle us though. >> I don't know that they're big enough. That's more of a right now what I what I've done with them is

more of a rolloff attempt. >> Okay. >> Just because we have such a big account, >> right? >> We have a wide variety of services that we partake in. Any other questions? >> All right. Well, thank you. >> I just have to say, wow, you you you manage so much and you do it extremely well. >> Best job in the world. >> So, thank you. >> Very good job. >> Thanks. Scott, don't sit. Don't sit just yet. Scott, if you don't mind, can you hang tight just for a moment? Um, as I was watching you work through even the buildings and giving an update, but then through the departments and giving an update, I was really experiencing two emotions. One is what you've spoken to, which is the complexity of this particular director spot. There's

a lot that you help to accomplish in our district and that you supervised. your ability to do so many things well simultaneously is rare like you called it OCD but it's really commendable. We're really fortunate. And then the second emotion that I was feeling and I hope the whole room feels this emotion is just a lot of pride around the state of which this school district continuously has been in a period of improvement. Um that that's there's a lot to celebrate there. So Mr. Morton kudos. Thank you. I know that's not usually the point of that kind of your chance to address the board, but as your supervisor and superintendent of schools, very thankful. Thank you. >> Appreciate it. >> I feel like the rest of the meeting is a bit anticlimactic. >> What? Superintendent

report. >> Yeah, exactly. Oh, >> Miss Solano, do we have anyone to address the board this evening? >> Thank you. And now, what we've all been waiting for, Mr. Hartman's, superintendent report is rather antilimactic. I cannot, nor do I intend to to challenge that. That was a lot. And I know that this evening a celebration for many of you is to be part of the fine art of Christmas. So, I'll be brief. I actually don't have that much to report upon. Um, anytime we have a break like that, it's really a great opportunity for people like all of us to get a lot done over Thanksgiving, but they don't it doesn't offer as many milestones that you might report out to the board because the schools actually weren't in session. I did go over to

the Medieval Times piece that was hosted by Dana. Um, that's the second time this year that a teacher from the charter school has invited me to come and be part of something and I think that's the second time ever. So, that's really nice to see. And I want to thank Karen because I've got to think that that's intentional. And you know, I understood how you meant what you said earlier, Matt. They actually really are part of our school district in so far as we are their authorizer. Um, I'm proud of the charter school. You know, just that there's a lot of good schools in Canyon City and one of them is the charter school. So, I was happy to be included that day. Um, and it was it was fun. Like, you know, it's like

I like costumes. I like knights and ladies and, you know, the whole these people do the cooking while these people are the blacksmith. So, we did that. Um, I want to talk to you just a little bit about the snow days. So, Kristen has prodded me previously to communicate with the community around how much goes into that decision. Um, I'll do that again this year. I'm going to do that through my my broad communication to families. Um, we're fortunate that we didn't use a single minute of time in before in the month of December. That's great. Um, but it's also true that we have to be very careful about how we use that. Um, as I was digging into this year's 2526 work around snow day enclosure, I found the 2425 work which included a

survey that went out to our principles later into the late winter, early spring, asking them, "How do you want to navigate this when we're out of snow days? How are we how do we want to do this? Are we going to use virtual or should we start putting days back onto the calendar?" Um, we have 4.7 days. Scott and I knew that that storm was coming. We had been looking at it for a long time. We were concerned a little bit about Sunday night. We were concerned a whole lot around Wednesday into Thursday. And that's exactly how that played out. I do think we made the right decision on both accounts. I did get some push back. There hadn't been any until this weekend. And then this weekend, I did hear some complaining about the

decision to close school, but that's part of the job. And you know, I don't think that everyone has maybe kind of the same overall understanding of just how many things are involved in that that decision whenever possible. We try to make it the night before in order to honor people's plans. And now I'm not just talking about the good people of Canyon City Schools, but all the people who are hardworking parents our community that get a early morning text that says your kid can't come to school if possible. I'd like them to know that the night before so they can work toward child care and other arrangements. But there's so much more to it. I mean, we have an agreement that even with our associations around uh if possible, we'd like to get this information

out by 4:45. And sure enough, one of our key our nutrition workers at 4:46, one minute after I sent that thing on the first time that it went out, I think that's how it worked. One minute. Yeah, I think it was. I think it was. She said, "Thank you." Because I was about to head in and start doing my baking. Like, there's a lot to this. Um, I don't know the exact number, Scott, and the total number of bus riders we have in the district, but there are many. And there are many routes, and some of those routes go pretty darn far. So when we're up driving the roads at 3 in the morning, Scott and I were having a conversation as he was actually north on Highway 9 past the intersection with Highway 50

at 3:00 in the morning. So I just don't want people to think that we take that lightly. I hold every single day and every single hour and minute sacred, but I'm also never going to be in a position where I'd rather, you know, like I'm not going to make a decision that might result in an uncomfortable argument with your the conversation with someone who's disgruntled about a closure. I'd rather have that than to go to somebody's funeral. So, we're very serious about student safety and all of that. And I just would like to say thank you to the people who help all the logistics because there are is a team that supports me in that work, but also thank you to the board for your support of my decision-making authority in that. And then just

generally the support of people in the district to make sure that we offer high quality school and we're able and that we close it when we have to. Fair enough. Okay, great. And then other than that, I've been in the buildings a lot this year. I set a goal for myself to be out and about and be part of more of classroom observations is being in classrooms. I call them ride along observations. It's been a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed that. I think that I need to do better about making sure that I'm in the classrooms. It is interesting. Teachers do seem to sometimes have a little bit of fear worry about why I'm in the classrooms, but quite honestly, it's for my own learning and for my own kind of my own good

positive energy. It's just good to be in the school. So, that's been a lot of fun and I was able to do that with all of our leaders and in fact in some of the schools multiple leaders per building and I'm going to keep doing it. And then lastly, the board plus me as superintendent and we're joined this week by the board secretary and my administrative assistant Kristen. I'm looking forward to going to the Colorado Association of School Boards winter convening with all of you. So, we'll start that work on Wednesday and uh we'll work through Thursday and Friday and then even a little bit on Saturday morning and um yes, that's work, too. But it's just a really great piece of our work. So we'll be excited when we come back together. When's our

next meeting, Kristen going to be? Because we have a cancellation at the end of the month. 12th 12th of January. And on 12th of January, we'll have an opportunity to talk in our reports about that, too. And I know that it'll be purposeful and well done. So, thank you. That's your report. >> Thank you, Mr. Hartman. We have a little bit of policy work this evening. First one is file IKF-e Canyon City Schools graduation requirements presented to the board for second reading and final vote. 059is a resolution declaring surplus property and authorizing sale. May I please have a motion? Enthusiastically, I would like to move that we approve the resolution declaring surplus property and authorizing the sale of the property to Sussex Group Brew Property 1 LLC for a purchase price of 425,000. >> I'll second. >> I have a motion and a second.
