Uh, Mrs. Cole, would you lead the pledge of allegiance for us, please? January appears to be board appreciation month. >> Yeah. So, I'm going to read a proclamation so you don't have to read it to yourselves. So, >> I appreciate that. >> Uh, all right. So, um, each January, Mesa County School District 51 recognizes our board of education during school board appreciation month. Serving on the school board is a volunteer role that requires significant time, thoughtful consideration, and a true commitment to students, staff, and our broader school community. Throughout this school year, our board members have played an important role in guiding district 51 through work that shapes learning environments, district operations, and learning uh in long-term planning. Their commitment includes careful preparation, open dialogue with the community, and thoughtful decision-making that supports our schools.
The board of education carries significant responsibilities including adopting a balanced budget for the county's largest employer, hiring and supporting the superintendent. Hey, thanks. Uh, and setting the direction and priorities that guide district 51. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it is essential to the success of our schools and the well-being of our students. This year, we are also proud to welcome two new board members to the board of education. We look forward to their leadership, perspectives, and dedication as they begin their service to District 51. Their willingness to serve reflects a shared commitment to supporting students, staff, and strong public schools. We are grateful for the service of all of our board members, both those continuing their work and those newly elected. On behalf of the students, staff, and families of Mesa
County School District 51, we thank them for their time, leadership, and dedication. and we proudly recognize January as school board appreciation month. Please join me in thanking our board of education for their continued commitment to our schools and our district 51 community. [Applause] >> Thank you. Next we have the United Way campaign report. Angel and Corey >> and tonight we actually have um Andrea Kreves who's going to be joining us uh in place of Dr. Christensen. So, thank you all for being here. >> All right. Hello board members. My name is Corey Hayy. I'm the principal of the Appleton Elementary Bookworms and I am the chairperson of District 51 United Way Pledge Campaign. And let me take a moment to back what Dr. Hill said and just thank thank you for all your service to
our community. You guys, great job. Thank you very much. All right. The D-51 United Way pledge campaign is an exciting annual event where D51 employees partner with United Way of Mesa County to help fund 25 local programs at 19 different local nonprofit agencies. These programs serve about 50,000 people in Mesa County and address a variety of social problems focused on healthy community, community resiliency, youth opportunity, and financial security. D-51 employees are the largest yearly organization uh donor to the pledge drive and since our partnership began in 2004 have given nearly $1.5 million in donations just shy of that milestone by just $2,000. So we'll go over that next year for sure. Custodians, cafeteria staff, administrators, teachers, grounds and maintenance in every other D-51 department is represented in donating some of their hard-earned money to the
United Way of Mesa County. They do this because they know it positively impacts kids and families that go to our schools and makes our community a better place to live. Before I get to all the good news about what a great partnership it is, I would like to recognize several people who made this partnership possible. April Hart, she's not here tonight, but she is she is the behindthescenes person. She's in the office of volunteers and community partnerships at D51. And April is phenomenal. Like this could not happen without that singular person. She puts in I don't even know I can't even imagine how many hours she puts in and tabulating money and pledges and getting things ready and communications and she is phenomenal. Truly is phenomenal. If you see her, tell her things because she
does a great job. Uh Faith Rodriguez is United Way of Mesa County Executive Director. Kyra Sepy is the community impact and outreach outreach manager. Cassidy Luhan is the donor and grants manager for United Way of Mesa County. And these people do so much good for our community and for our kids. We have another person who's doing so much good in our D51 is our D-51 foundation assistant executive director Andrea Kreves here to my left who'll be sharing some words here in a moment. Um we couldn't do this without the 45 D51 building coordinators who run who each run their individual schools pledge drive. Those people do an amazing job as well. All right, so the great news this is so much fun. The great news is that 702 generous D-51 employees donated 67,8525 back into
the community through United Way of Mesa County. These are year-over-year increases in total employee participation and total donations. Something truly to celebrate for sure. And so some time for awards. All right, we have building plaques that we give out every year. These go to the U buildings that have the highest employee participation increase from year to year. They get a traveling plaque with their school name or their organization or their building's name uh put on that and we'll deliver those to them in mid January. But the winners for this year with um in the elementary level with a 40% increase Mesa View. Congratulations to Mesa View. Yeah. with a 13.48% increase in the middle school division is Mount Garfield Middle School. Very good. In the high school, the career center gained 38% more participation this
year. Great job. And the office building, the compass building gained 20.339% increase. So, that was great for them, too. All right. Now you guys get to help us help some other people get a paid day off of work. Every year we have a classified employees. We pick six and Andrea is going to come walking around and you guys get to pick board members. Please pick one name out there. Hold on to it and be ready to read that name here in just a moment. But they pick out six uh you'll be picking out six classified employees. And these people were eligible for this because they donated at least $5 per pay period. And so these people earn a day off, a paid day off um by your pick here. So we're going to do the
classified employees first. So Miss Evson, would you like to read yours first? >> I have Michelle Wilcox with administration. >> Nice. All right. Very good. Very good. >> I have uh Miss Andrea Hickey from Taupe. >> All right. Great. Good. Good. And I have Michelle Faly from Nizzley Preschool. >> Nice. >> I have Monica South from BTK. >> Yay. Good. Good. >> Eva from BTK. Eva Gi. >> Sounds good. Yep. >> All right. And from Windgate Elementary, I have Courtney Idler. >> All right. Great. These people are all very deserving after donating $5 per pay period. Now, we'll move on to the certified folks. And these people had to donate $10 per pay period to be eligible. We're going to pick six again. So, pick one. And when you're ready, go ahead and start reading
them off. >> Need help on that one. There might be there's some tough ones. >> Uh Rael Mueller with tote. >> There you go. I have Sarah Sabria from Monument Ridge. >> Nice. >> Good. >> Kimberly Dose from Mesa View. >> Nice. >> I have uh Tamara Dickerson from Compass. >> Hi. >> Michael Edwards from Pal State High School. >> Apparently, I like Windgate a lot because from Windgate, it's Tammy Vanpelt. >> Nice. >> All right. Very good. All right. Those people are going to be excited to hear the news. That's going to be great. And then we had we get to pick three administrative folks here. This is for the um folks that put in $20 per pay period. And uh we'll pick three of these. So if you guys want to read those
off. >> Shauna Hobs from Central High School. >> Nice. >> Maria Duel from FMHS. >> Yes. Right. >> Sean Wilson from Taylor. Nice. >> Hey. All right, all these people did a great job. Um, again, their coordinators did an amazing job and uh it's been a super successful um year for our pledge drive and we are just uh we're ecstatic for that partnership. It does so much in our community. Um but we're not finished yet. There's some more good news and Andrea here is going to share that. >> Thank you. Uh I want to make sure that I acknowledge um Dr. Angela Christensen who is feeling a little under the weather. she's the executive director and so I'm um giving this presentation on her behalf on behalf of the foundation staff and board of directors.
So um I'd like to begin by recognizing that it's school board appreciation month and thank each of you for your tireless and unpaid service in support of our schools and the incredible work happening every day across D51. On behalf of the D51 board of directors and staff, thank you. I would also like to offer a sincere thank you to Mr. Cory Hayy for his tireless leadership in championing this effort. His dedication is one of the key reasons this campaign continues to be successful year after year. I also want to recognize April Hart who he mentioned earlier for her behind-the-scenes work ensuring the logistics run seamlessly. And thank you to the team at United Way led by Faith Rodriguez for the important work that you do that benefits so many in our community. I especially want
to extend a huge thank you to every D-51 staff member who designated the D-51 Foundation through their United Way donation. Your support truly matters. We're pleased to share that this year's campaign will provide over $9,000 to the D51 Foundation. While staff can designate their gifts to any local nonprofit, it's been exciting to see so many choose the D-51 Foundation. And that choice speaks volumes. It tells us that our staff believes in the work being done and knows that these funds go back directly to supporting D-51 students and educators. These funds make a real impact. They support programs like Bloom Where You're Planted, which help students with financial need participate in extracurricular activities. They provide classroom grants for technology such as 3D printers and programmable robots. and they fund professional development opportunities that help our teachers
continue to grow and strengthen academic outcomes for students. The momentum for both District 51 and the District 51 Foundation continues to grow. This year, the foundation celebrates its 15th anniversary, and it's been incredible to reflect on the progress made over that time. I'm also excited to share that we once again achieved our most successful sponsorship support ever for the upcoming 14th annual White Iced um celebration gala. You can see the flyer up there on the screen. Uh it'll be this February on February 7th. Um and we've seen a 10% increase over last year's sponsorship and this success is due in large part to our dedicated board of directors who work tirelessly to secure funding and share and work our share our work with the community. the vital role that public schools play in Mesa County.
Finally, thank you to everyone who supports the D-51 Foundation. Whether it's through donations, event attendance, visiting our website, or following us on our socials, your support is truly appreciated and it's making a meaningful district for our students and staff. So, um we are excited to share some incentives um for those who contributed to the United Way campaign to the D51 Foundation um with some white ice tickets. Um so to the building with the highest donations to the District 51 Foundation, um we are excited to send six tickets to Appleton Elementary. Um, so thank you. Um, to the building with the So that was the highest dollar amount. The building with the most staff donations to the District 51 Foundation, that was BTK. Sorry. Thank you. And then we'll be doing a a separate drawing um
kind of off offsite for an additional two tickets to the White event um from individual donors from across the district that selected the foundation. So, we want to say thanks in advance to um all uh who donated and congratulations to anyone who's receiving tickets. So, thank you. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> One presentation. Good evening board. We are back to give you an update on our progress on our priority improvement projects and uh Fruit of Monument High School. My name is Clint Garcia. I'm the chief operations officer here in the district. Micah Adams is joining me to give the presentation. And I thought Chamberlain Architects was going to be up here with us. >> Okay. Okay. All right. All right. With that, uh, we will get started. Go ahead, Micah. >> Great.
>> That button. All right. Um, well, thank you guys. Um, just want to wish you uh happy holidays. Hope you guys all had a good break and um once again, thank you for your service in this capacity. Really appreciate it. Um, once again, Micah Adams with Dynamic Program Management. Uh, DPM is the owners rep for these bond projects. And, uh, we'll go ahead and get started here. Um, so this is a slide we've been seeing every presentation just changed up a little bit. We added a pie chart because we're cool. And um so this kind of gives a visual representation of uh the bond buckets. Uh once again uh the largest being Central High School um next being Fruit of Monument High School. And then there's the three uh parts of the priority improvement projects
there on the right side of the screen being safety security priority maintenance life safety and the improved learning environment. Uh so this slide here is a is a good overview of where we're at with the priority improvement projects. Phase one was last summer, phase two is this upcoming summer. As you can see there at the bottom, uh we're close to 70% done with the design. Um the construction documents are phased. Uh with there being so many schools, they're broken out into three different phases. You know, some of the construction documents we'll start to see here in the coming weeks. uh but they'll be filtering in through the end of February. Um and there there's a a little overview of the budget for phase one um and the total savings uh to date of about 4.5
million in in that budget for phase one. And so we'll touch on that a little bit later in this presentation and the the hopes with uh those savings. Um looking forward to phase two. Um, you know, right now we're coming in, uh, we've got DD estimates recently from contractors. Um, and we're we're in good shape with those right now. Um, you know, what that doesn't include. The difference between the 27 million and the 37 million is all the soft cost. So, there's a lot of furniture, architecture fees, um, abatement, stuff to that degree. Uh, but right now, we're sitting pretty well uh, when it comes to hard costs. Uh a little bit more overview of what's happening. Um as I mentioned, design development estimates have recently been received. Four abatement contractors were also recently awarded
work. Um there's five schools receiving uh asbestos abatement here this coming summer. Uh recently got geotechnical reports and uh fire suppression construction drawings. Um, and then over there on the right side of the screen, you'll see a recap of which general contractors will be overseeing which school projects. Um, go ahead. So, this is uh just a brief overview of Fra Monument High School. Uh, um, you know, total project budget originally $21 million with about 144.4 million of that being hard cost. Um since then there's been increase in scope. Um primarily there's a uh over on the east side of the building um an infill CTE addition that really connects that east side of the campus and brings everything uh in under one building. Along with that is the relocation of the weight room from a
temp modular there into the um the main building. Once again, the the big goal is getting everything under one roof. Um, with that uh you know, that hard cost estimate has increased uh since the original budget. We're still within the overall budget. Um, but uh with the the savings from phase one priority improvement projects, the goal would be to roll some of those savings over into Fruda's budget. And Clint, I'll let you talk more to that. And I'll just add that um later on this evening, you've have a proposed resolution to approve and we're we're putting that before you to proceed with this project. >> Oh, you're all right. >> All right. This one's a little shorter. We'll make make it work. um with the with the design schedule there we are near completion once
again that is uh also scheduled for February so um and yeah that's what I have to say about that next slide um uh here just more more of a overview of what we've got going on a lot of it's utility coordination um there's been a lot of potholeing happening on the existing site where they go out and physically have to dig up the utilities to to get uh their depths and um coordinate the design. And you know, one area of challenge will be that area in between the existing CTE building and the the main building. It's a lot of utilities running through that area. Um that that will have to be relocated uh with this addition. Um and so that that's a lot of the coordination that's happening right now. Um design of furniture is
is ongoing. Um and finalization of the construction documents as we mentioned. I think that next slide is just a uh overview of the plans. I don't believe there's been any major changes since we presented last. Um so this is just more for reference than anything. Maybe you can point out just the why the cost increased in that CTE area. >> Sure. Yeah. So that uh area that's uh it's like a light shade of green over there in between uh purple areas. that that is a an infill that wasn't originally a part of the um you know the master plan project but as design developed um you know originally there was just renovation of the existing CTE classrooms in the southwest portion of the building. Um but once again as I mentioned earlier as design developed
a focus on safety security making thing everything under one building uh it seemed like it was really important to connect that building and actually move the CTE classrooms from where they're at up uh to that area because that's uh where the a shop is at and the other CTE component. So, it also um got all of that program uh more centralized in one area. Um and then along with that comes some additional uh shop equipment costs, some additional furniture costs, and then uh utility relocations um are some of the reasons for the increase in the budget. Any questions? I feel like the way I'm looking at it is one, we want to make sure we get it right the first time. So when things come up, you might have to make some adjustments versus kind
of half doing it, then having to go back and make changes later. But also because we came in under budget on those PIP projects last summer that allowed us to still do the the um the necessary things at Fruit of Monument High School, but it doesn't pull away from these um upcoming PIP projects, right? So, we're still able to stay on track with the commitment we made around addressing the facility needs under that bond, but because we had savings, we can take care of these um additional needs at Fruit Monument High School is kind of how I'm looking. It's not like we're pulling from another project. >> Absolutely. >> Correct. >> And the and some of the savings that we the rest of the dollars that we that are not going to Fr Monument High
School, there's about a million and a half. We'll roll that over into phase two. And so, we'll be able to use those in that those dollars in those projects. and and ideally we'll come in under budget this summer again um and then we can do this we can continue that >> any questions >> right >> thank you guys >> thank you I'm excited that pie charts make you cool because it didn't didn't work in high school >> I heard educators make a lot of them and so I figured it was a cool thing to do >> thanks >> yeah so um the next item is we're going to have uh Dr. Carter come up from CI. Um just so folks in the room know, this is going to be a 45 minute to an hour
really work session with the board. And so this is time for us to do some interactive work. So I am actually it's kind of a transition. I'm dismissing senior leadership to go home because they don't need to be here. But if you'd like to stay in the crowd and watch 45 minutes to an hour of um workshopping, you can do that. But this is going to be time for Dr. Carter to come and work with the board uh on some planning. So I want to invite Dr. Carter up from CI. Um, thanks for being here in person and also um just want to mention we have a great partnership with CI but um they're doing this for free for us which is kind of nice. So appreciate um you being here and doing some work
with our board. So I'll turn it over to you. >> We call it a fremium. So you guys are such a great partner that we um I I'm excited to be here with you today. Um I was thinking about this on the drive up here. I've said this to other boards before, but I worked with a board last year that had one new board member come on, and they were kind of like, "Oh, we're the same board. We just have one new board member." And I said, "Nope, you're a new board." Every time you have any new board members come on, you are a new board. And so it says like board on boarding, but I think it's like board coming together um uh around what we do and why we do it. Um and
so um so that's kind of where I'd love to work with you guys today. And then um I'm hoping to set up like short 45 minute phone calls with each of you individually just to like hear like what do you what do you want to get out of this next 18 months because that's what you've got, right? Um we just had an election in November. There's no election for the board this November. So we've got a cool actually it's more than that. It's like 20 months um of work together as a fivep person board with your superintendent. I call that the governance team, a district governance team. And sometimes I go to other school districts, they're like, "No, our district governance team is the board and the superintendent." Then he brings in a bunch of
senior staff and I'm like, "This is not right." Because um you guys have one employee and that's his your employee and he directs all these other people. um and um the way that your instrument is that person. But it's it's a cool different type of it's like I don't know any other um system that works like a school board and a school superintendent where it's really a partnership. It's it's like one big team. So that's kind of I hope that that's what your mindsets are because that's what how I'm going to operate. I'm I'm assuming that's how you guys want to work with Dr. Hill as part of your team to say how are we governing D51? Um, and how are you as a as an entity directing him to do the the good work?
So, um, so it it's funny. Um, I'm gonna call you Brian in this, and I I'd prefer if you did just call me Alex. Um, uh, Brian and I were talking about, so what what do we what do we want to get done? And we and he was actually, um, at one of his board meetings, and he put a big circle around board purpose, board roles, and board values that's on every one of your agendas. And I said, "Where'd that come from?" and he's like, "I'm not really sure and I don't think we've ever really dug into these." And I went, "Well, that's a really cool place to start because board purpose is really like why you exist as board, what why you guys want to do this work, which um and thank you for
doing this because it is um as um my board president when I was superintendent Cortez always said, it's the best and worst volunteer job in America is being on the school board." And um but you're doing it. You're here. Well, like what do you guys want to get? And the neat thing is the board purpose isn't necessarily your own personal why. It's the amalgamation. It's the bring bringing together of all your wise to what you guys hope to do as a board of education. So um so we've got the board purpose and we're gonna we're going to spend some time at that poster. That's the board purpose poster and and it's wild because um the other two posters have like longer uh information. Oh, I just did 500 kilo calories. That's good. All right. Thank
you. Thank you everybody. Thanks everybody. But um the uh >> because I'm moving around a lot, you know, I think it's adding everything up for the whole day, right? You're like those a Swedish watch. Those sweets, they count anything, right? So um so the uh these two sheets have um what is on this agenda plus a couple things that you guys have created. I think it was actually two boards ago um when you guys worked with one of my colleagues George Welsh to create um the governance team roles and responsibilities and the norms. So I kind of paired you've got roles on here and roles that you guys created and they're very similar but they're not the same. And I thought it would be nice if we just got it all together to be like
hey this is what we think we do. Um and I like that you call it the essential role. So I think what the um so pretty soon I'm going to stop talking. You guys are going to start talking to each other. But when you look at these they call essential board rules. I think what the essential ones on this piece of paper that I put in front of all of you but there's one you don't need to bring up anything with you because I put spare ones up there are like the bolded parts are like the essential roles that we establish um a collaborative establishment and effective implementation of a strategic vision. That would be an essential role. And then these other things say what what does it look like when we were doing that
work? Does that make sense? Okay. Um and then over here we've got your core values which I think um are pair nicely with your operating norms. The operating norms are the um the things that you guys say like as a team this is how we behave. It's funny to call that a be but they're behaviors. These are the behaviors of a high functioning well operating unit. Um these are the and these are also kind of agreements. This is what we agree to do. This is what Dr. Hill agrees to do in a in an emergency. This is what he does. I think those they pair well with your values. This one over here though, it's just like it's a it's it's a small number of words on a piece of paper and we're going to
give you 12 minutes. We're going to we're going to divide you up into two two and two and we're going to just rotate through them. Um I actually think you'll have more rich conversations with just those little words saying what what do these actually mean? Um, I I worked with another team um right before break and it was a leadership team and they had a really cool instructional vision and then and I I read it and I was like I wonder if they all agree on what these words mean like what does it mean to be an instructional leader at a school like in our district the principal is an instructional leader and they all like yes I'm like what do you mean by that and what do you mean by that what do you
mean by that and is it the same thing and it wasn't so um it's nice to actually look at these words and say what do they actually mean because it pro probably matters to you as a unit as a board saying how are we going to work together and what are we trying to get done so that's your purpose that's your why these over here are your roles and your values and your norms that's your how and then what I'd like to do in our individual conversations between now and then is ask you what do you want to get done that's your like that's how that's what you're working towards to get done over the next 18 to 24 20 months and then maybe for the next maybe there's no board change and you guys
just keep rolling and do it again. We don't know. Let's not worry about that. That's 20 months from now. Let's worry about what do we want to get done over the next 20 months. Why are we doing it and how are we going to do it? Does that make sense? Oh my gosh, I'm right on time. That's beautiful. It was supposed to be a six minute warm-up. So now what we're going to do is we're going to break into teams of two. I'd like to I'm gonna because I'm a former teacher and I was pretty bossy. I'm gonna assign um Dr. Hill and Barb. Would you guys start over at the purpose? How's that sound? Let's go with Joseé Louise and Casey. Would you guys start at the roles? And I'm doing this on purpose
because we have our current president and our former president working with two newer board members. And then we'll have uh Andrea and Vicki working over there. We're going to as soon as you get over there, I'm going to put on some light music and um and we're going to do 12minute rotations. Let me tell you before you do, let me tell you what you're doing. Whoa. All right. It's coming with All right. Um, so, um, you've got, um, Sharpies and Post-it papers. A Post-it note, it's like one idea per post Post-it note. So, if you've got three things you like about it, put three Post-it notes. Um, and when you rotate, the first thing I'm going to ask you to do is read what your colleagues wrote before and then add to. And so, you're
saying like, I love I like this idea of like I'm just making this up. Maybe you're like, I like the idea of being effective. Like being an effective team. So, you write, I like being effective. I like that word effective. that matters to me. But you might like say, I'm not sure what we mean by ethical. What do we mean by ethical? Do we agree on what ethical is th those are things that maybe you don't like or maybe you want to change. And then this fourth box is like if you get these three boxes done, what I like, what I don't like, and what I want to change or add because there might be something that you're like, I like all this, but I think there's something more that we should be thinking about,
too. You put that there. Over here, it's like, what does it look like? What is a board that's doing this? What is how what would I observe? What are the observable behaviors? And that's what you do in that box. Everyone got it? All right, move to your stations. We're going to start the 12 minutes. >> 12 minute timer. I'm really excited. That's [Music] That's great. Hey, it's all positive. Yeah. Heat. original. Let's do five. Only That's right. So board um so that that's great. So now I have some raw material. All my homework is to um take all the I took pictures of all that. I type it all up. I actually throw it. I use um an AI to say like what themes do you see coming up? And often it does a really
nice job saying I see this, this, and this. I I do it before by myself and then I test my my assumptions with an AI. Um, and uh, and then I'll I'll create a draft that I'll bring back to you that you guys can then punch up, make make it like feel right to you because that's really important. I think if we get these right, then the what, which is what we'll be talking about and and also looking at is like are there a set of board priorities or goals that you guys want to set for the next 18 months to say as a board this is kind of what we're prioritizing. Just for instance, the last time that you did this in 2024 as a board, you named we want student advisory group. We
want to be meeting with students and hearing from them and you did it. So, it's nice to name a few things that you're like um in addition to the strategic plan. It might not even be in the strategic plan as a board, these are things we want to achieve or have happen in the next 18 months and you direct your superintendent to make that stuff happen. So, um that's that's what will happen over the next um couple weeks. I'll be back on February 17th um to work with you again. So, I'm really excited. So, um what I'll do is I'm going to work with Amy to send I'm going to send a like here are 20 openings for 45 minutes over the next three weeks and then hopefully we can just plug you guys into
one of those openings. If none of them work, we'll figure it out. We'll find another one. The last thing I want to say is I um I actually sent uh some people might have been like, "That guy's texting right in the middle of his consultation, but I sent a text to my leadership team back and I wrote um I think people would be amazed at the depth and seriousness with which boards of education take the responsibilities. It's pretty inspiring. Like you guys that was really I'm sorry I just got a little emotional. That's weird. Um it was really inspiring to hear you guys talk about the work that you do for your community and I just want to thank you. Uh it's school board appreciation month so I appreciate you as well and I'm not
even a member of this community. So, thank you everybody. I'll see you. That's right. I'm an honorary I've got I've got family members that go to school in your district. So, that's right. I am. I should have a house. All right. Thanks, everybody. >> Yeah. Thanks, Alex. >> Thanks, Alex. Uh, we have we go back to our business meeting items. The first one is renaming of East Middle School. Is somebody presenting that or we just >> No, we when we did the first renaming, we presented just so y'all understood the process. But same thing, we had there's a committee that reviewed it. Remember um East Middle School's been repurposed so that we can consolidate some of our um um mainly folks that are under Jen's um house into that building. And so it's been renamed,
but it's still also incorporating the East um name in it as well. Thank you. So, may I have a may I have a motion uh to accept uh the biz meeting items renaming of East Middle School letter regarding gateway and resolution for to reallocate PIP savings to bond work at food uh food and monument high school. Like if I could do all three at the same time, that'd be nice. But if not, I could do each one. Well, we can do a motion for all three and then we can discuss each three separately. Okay. I'll make a motion uh for the renaming of East Middle School to the D-51 Educational Service Center at East. Um the letter regarding gateway and the resolution to reallocate the um priority improvement um savings to the bond work at
Freud Middle uh Fruit of Monument High School. >> Second all three. Then we >> So we can open up for discussion. Do you have do you want to discuss anything of these? >> Um I think we should just provide clarity on the um letter back to Gateway. So um let me just pull that up. >> That would be nice. Tammy, thank you. >> Tammy was the one senior leadership person I didn't let go home. So, you're welcome. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Could you maybe you could just give a re a recap and then >> Yeah. So, the letter the letter that's being drafted is um as you all know, you received a letter from the gateway community with some alternative offers. We had originally um in November as a board discussed what the board
at that time wanted to do with the gateway school. Um, after receiving the letter, I asked all board members if they wanted to put on the agenda whether or not to overturn the board's prior decision. Nobody moved to put that on the agenda as an item to vote on. So, based upon that, I wrote the letter in response to the new letter based on the decision that was made in November. And so, you're just voting on whether or not you want to send the letter out that I drafted. >> Thank you. Any other discussion? >> Right. So, basically we just we gave the gateway community some options um of what we were comfortable doing, what we felt the district was comfortable doing um with the building. Um and we're just not willing to change any
of those options. They came back with a different option and we're just sort of we're just sticking with what um we wanted to do. So, we're just basically relaying that information back. Yeah, the board, this board did not want to go in and over, you know, talk again about a new negotiation, renegotiate, extend timelines. It was just we were good with the November letter and we're not willing to entertain the new options that came forward. >> Yeah. I just want to make sure the community understands that there's been there has been communication with the gateway community. We offered them some options and um we're just we well with the before we've had our new board members and this is a kind of an awkward time because we we started this with two other board members
and now we have two new on I just want to make sure that everyone understands that um we're just not changing anything but we did give the gateway community some options to choose from that we the district was comfortable with and we're just not changing that. So >> okay perfect. Thank you. >> And then the resolution for >> EIP savings to bond work. >> Yeah. So that was um just the amount. >> Yeah, that's that's the one that Clinton just presented on. So there was over $4 million in savings and we're using a little over three to put towards Fermind High School and then the additional one point um I can't remember the exact amount will go to other projects that were in the long range facility plan that we need to take to address.
So, it's not the entire savings from the um PIP project. It's 3,000 or excuse me, 3 million of the 45 4.5 million, excuse me. >> Great. >> Any other discussion? We have a vote, please. >> Mr. Chavis, >> approved. >> Mrs. Cole, >> yes. >> Mrs. Evansson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Heights, >> yes. >> Mrs. Woods, >> yes. We'll move on to board announcements. Board announcements basically any agenda items you would like to have in the future. >> Um yes, I have something I'd like to consider for future agenda items and that's the um chronic absenteeism. Um uh there was an article that came out in the paper here um some time ago, early December about the plans for addressing chronic absenteeism and I think maybe that had been prior um maybe to the board.
So I was hoping to get a recap on that. >> Okay. >> In the future. Um, >> yeah, it's a I'm glad you brought it up because actually that article was put out in like December and the interviews happened back in like May. So, a lot's happened since then, even from when the articles was the interviews happened. So, um, we can figure out a way to give either an update to the board on what's happening or it might actually fit in with one of our strategic plan updates as well, but we can make sure to get that. >> That would be great. Thank you. >> Any other items? Vicki and I meet with Dr. Hill on Thursday. So, if you have um at 10:30, so if you have any items you could think of uh
before then, please uh just send Vicki, I and Dr. Hill a note and we will discuss it and and get it on the agenda at some time. >> Thank you. >> Our future board meetings is uh January 20th at 5:00 and then again at February 3rd. Uh, and it's that'll be a board work session. Do we have a motion for adjournment? >> Motion to adjourn. >> Second. >> Thank you. You guys all drive home safe.
