meeting. I would like to call the meeting to order and ask that you join me in the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay. May I have a motion to approve the regular meeting? So moved. I second. >> John Christensen. >> Yay. >> Chris Duca. >> Yay. >> Kathy Howland. >> Hi. >> And O. >> Yay. >> AJ Wilson. >> Yay. >> Motion carried. Okay. Um, the first item we have is a gift um to PO West High School mock trial program. Superintendent R. So, I'm I'm presenting on behalf of Sheila Sloan, who is um currently taking children on a trip um an educational trip, but
uh she received a $7,500 scholarship or I guess grant from El Pomar uh for the mock trials. And so, hope to continue to support mock trials. Any questions? >> Thank you. >> Wonderful. Okay. Our next items are donations to Pub West High School. Mr. >> Thank you, Madam President. Board members, Superintendent Ryan, thank you for again an opportunity. Tonight we come with a couple different ones. The first one uh is a partnership we formed with uh the Scooters restaurant and ownership out in Publo West. Dale Willhigh and his uh group of owners as well as his family um have graciously donated a $15,000 um amount of money to our school uh to our school building. Uh we have currently been using some of that uh in different ways. Right now we use it across multiple
sports to purchase the huddle um video camera system that we have that pays for our our registration and then of course all the use of that uh to provide game live streaming uh as well as some reviewing uh the review of games and and scouting reporting. So we use it that way. We've also used it uh temporarily at this point to use uh to uh we download a lot of music for games to play before games, halftimes, between quarters or whatever. Um we subscribe to a a company called Neptune which cleans all of the music. So if you were to come to Publo West and listen to the music, we run it through a system where all the music is clean. Uh there's not no cursing, no uh bad words, that kind of thing. So
we use it in that way and then we have some other plans for the near future as well. So again, we thank Dale Will Height and Scooters for their generous um donation to our school district and our school building. Um we also had a $500 donation to our football program uh through um the Hidden Gem Self Storage, a again a PBlo West company um that has donated money towards our football program for use of their um to use for their uh needs as far as travel things like uh meals. Um, if there's equipment needs of anything that the kids might have, um, again, just a a very nice donation from a local company as well, as you receive those. Thank you very much. Any questions on those, too. >> Thank you. >> Excellent. Thank you.
>> Thank you. >> None of our music was clean. >> We had to bleep it out with the radio. >> All right. Our next item, um, we have donations to Vinand Middle School FFA. Mrs. Butos, thank you for having me. My name is Stacy Bustos. I am the FFA advisor and agriculture teacher for the middle school. And we received two donations this month. The first donation requested to be uh anonymous. And I tried to encourage the family to come forward because I think that that is a big deal to offer $1,000 to a school and um they refused. Uh but they are a local family uh that has three kids at our school. One is a sixth grader, two are eighth grade. They have been in the A FFA program going on their third year
and the sixth grader is also showing a lot of interest in the A program. The money will be used um we do several field trips throughout the year. We just attended the FFA conference for middle school which is absolutely amazing. We tried to offset uh we didn't charge the parents for busing so that will help with busing. Uh the kids received a t-shirt. A lot of those fees are waved to due to these donations that we got. We also do several um vet care because we have horses, we have cows, bottle cabs, uh chickens, turkeys, goats. We have everything at our at our program. The kids 100% take care of these animals, including on the weekend. I don't do that. I oversee it, but I don't do it. And without these uh donations that they
provide for us, we cannot buy hay on candy bars and chips that we sell at the cart. It's just not possible. So, I'm very grateful to this family and I really hope that this message gets to them that we are very grateful from district 70 that they donated this thousand dollars. Um the second donation uh was from Dennis Brandt. He is also from our county. He has three grandkids currently attending uh u middle school. And um two of them are also in eighth grade, one is in sixth grade. And um that's Kamora JT and Nathan. And they are an absolute blessing to our program. They are active in FFA. They attend our trips. They attend our after school. We attended North Mesa current uh recently and Vineland Elementary fallest. We took animals there. The panels
that we have who set up these animals safely to be around smaller children. Without these types of donations like this, we couldn't we couldn't we couldn't do we couldn't do that. So, and panels are very expensive. They also wanted this money to go to make sure that the animals were receiving vet care, which they they ha they have in the past and they will continue to do. But that was nice for them to set that money aside so that we have a little cushion to make sure that all the animals are cared for at Finland Middle School. So, um, thank you again for having me. Thank you for allowing these gifts to be given to our school and to provide the ongoing care for our program. And for those of you that heard Stormmy got
out of my classroom, Stormmy is back safe and sound. He actually never left. The kids just lost sight of him. >> Stormy's the cat, right? >> He's the cat. >> Thank you very much. >> Okay. Do I have a motion to accept the gifts as presented? >> I second. >> John Christensen. >> Crystal Luga. >> Kathy How O. >> AJ Wilson. >> Motion carried. >> Okay. Next is our good news item which is the PCEA employee spotlight. >> Thank you. Uh they could not be here today but I'd still like to read their names and share a little bit about them. Again these are oh these are rec they're recognitions from other staff members. So it's it's a nice honor to hear from other staff members. When you're appreciated always feels good. So our first
one is an ESP um which is educational support professional at PBLO County High School. She's the custo custodian Anna Rodus Oriana. And what they had to say about her is Anna demonstrates outstanding dedication every day through her hard work and positive attitude. She takes great pride great pride in keeping the school clean and welcoming, creating a safe and comfortable environment for students and staff alike. Her friendliness and reliability make her a valued member of the school community. Anna consistently goes above and beyond her duties, ensuring that every part of the building is cared for with attention and care. Her dependability and strong work ethic have made a lasting impression on everyone she works with and her commitment has been unwavering throughout her time at the school. And then our second one is certified. She's at
Liberty Point International. I actually have worked with her. I worked with her at PR Winds and then I worked with her last year at LPI. Michelle Bernstein, she's a sixth grade science teacher now. Although she's also taught language arts, she's kind of done it all. And this is what her colleagues had to say. Michelle goes above and beyond every day to support both students and staff. Whether it's troubleshooting technology issues or finding new ways to engage students in science, she's always ready to lend a hand. Her knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm make her an invaluable resource in her school community. Known as the in-house expert for Google, I Ready and Power School, Michelle is the go-to person when anyone helps needs help. Beyond her technical expertise, she is an outstanding science teacher who meets students where
they are and helps them grow with confidence. Her generosity and commitment shine through in everything she does. So, those are our two spotlight members for the week. >> Great. Thank you. [Applause] >> Okay. Next, we have information from the board and superintendent. We'll go ahead and start with Mr. Dero. This time of year, I always talk about the teams going into the state championship. So, we have um both softball teams from Publo West and Publo County will be playing on Friday uh up in Aurora for the state championship. So, want to wish them luck. We have bands uh Ry and uh County are going to Grand Junction um next Monday for their um state championship. Both qualified. I think they're both sitting at number one in their division. So, again, uh wish wish want to
wish them well. And of course, we got other teams that are still getting to that point, volleyball, etc. Uh we also have um our district will have a a booth or tent down at the Fright Night, right, Miss Kilpatrick? Fright night at the Riverwalk on Saturday was one of our community events that we uh are going to do through our Kaiser Wellness. And so, uh first year doing this. It's a big event if you've never been down there to see all the kids and families walking around and trick-or-treating. District 70 will have a a booth down there this year. So, we're excited about that. And Miss Kilpatrick will be leading the charge of making sure everything's good. So, we're excited about that. >> Are we going to flip a coin whether it's going to snow
or not? >> I I think the weather's going to be nice. We were just talking about that. I think it's going to be some decent weather on Saturday. All right, superintendent. >> Well, Stephanie and I, we track the weather and so we would we beg to differ according to our >> bet from our almanac that we keep. But I hope I hope it's warm for them. Um, we sent our first quarterly newsletter out to staff, uh, updating everybody on on the state of the district and what the district is, uh, doing in many different areas. And so, we hope that our staff will, uh, potentially dig that out of their spam because that's maybe where it went. So, dig it out of the spam and we'll we'll figure out how to make that not go
to spam next time. But, um, hopefully that will, uh, keep everybody a little more informed about everything that we're doing because I know that not everybody watches our board meetings. Um, and then, >> oh yes, they do. >> We also currently have our math curriculum on display for the public. Um, so we have uh two different choices that we're going to be looking at and piloting uh from December to April. And so we also hope that our public will come in in the next couple of days and and take a look at that curriculum uh so that they can give us their their thoughts and opinions on it. Uh and then I I visited a lot of schools this week. Last week I went to Vinland Middle, Prairie Wind, Cedar Ridge, and then uh you
know Sky middle schools hit hit Facebook pretty hard on the pickup line and we are certainly brainstorming and thinking of ways that we can um make that a a more efficient uh pickup. And so we're not ignoring that. We are certainly working on solutions for that. Um there's just not an easy solution for it. And some of it's going to have to be working with um the county and the road roads and bridges. So we're we are working on that. It's just not something that's going to be simple. That's it. Okay, Kath, you have anything? >> Well, let's see. I' I'd like people to think about Highway 50 and what a one second decision could make. We were out there a week ago, Sunday, and this truck driver had pulled off to the side of
the road and then all of a sudden he changed his mind and decided to turn left onto uh the second makulla and a motorcyclist was going extremely fast but probably the speed limit and this was a animal hauler semi type of thingy which I'm not sure what they're they're called I don't have animals >> cattle trailer >> huh >> a cattle trailer >> pretty much and it was huge and this guy blocked four lanes of traffic and the motorcycle went right into very traumatic And so one one second decisions can ruin a person's life to the best of my knowledge. I think the guy lived which is a miracle because he supposedly for my friend his leg was on one side and he was riding with the dog and the dog was calling for the
dog and I guess the dog lived. So, at this point, there have been a number of fatalities at that at that exit, and it's just because you want to you want to beat somebody. So, you you don't take the one second extra. And that's not the I've seen worse accidents, but that was like grueling when he was right in front of me, right in front of me. And I just I'd like people to think about when you're, you know, taking that that exit, left exit. 50. Um, be very very careful because it's very very very dangerous. So, that's that's all I have. Thank you. >> Um, unfortunately, I haven't been able to get to very many schools this year like I would like to. >> Um, so I don't really have too much to to
say today. On a lighter note, um pickle ball courts are open at PV, so please get out and use them. Um next month I'm going to try for two more from the county. We're looking good. So hopefully next year, uh North Mesa and Bula will also have new courts. So fingers crossed the county grounds that one more time. I think they will. So two more new courts hopefully on the plate. >> I don't have anything this evening. >> All right. I don't either. So, we'll move on. All right. Um, we're going to go on to discussion. Our first item is a presentation of the PO West High School wrestling teams trip. Coach, >> thank you for the opportunity uh to present tonight about our upcoming trips. Uh, one of them, I'll just start with the
last one first. Garden City, Kansas has been our uh staple in our program for the last few years. It's been a great individual tournament. Uh fire wrestlers get prepared for regionals and leading into that state tournament. Uh one I've had my eye on for the last few years but didn't feel like we had the full team to go down there compete against other teams in team duels was this Rio Rancho New Mexico tournament. Um it's turn it's a tournament that invites teams from Arizona, Utah, and Texas as long as well as Colorado. Um this is the year I feel like going forward as well that have continued to be a staple. But this is the year that we targeted with the numbers and having a full lineup to actually go down there and compete um
with those teams and not give up points because of four fits but actually have a full lineup to compete each and every match. Um something to start off our year to see where we're at to measure and then by the end of the year to see how much we've improved and get ready for the home stretch and qualify as many kids as we can for the state tournament. >> Any questions? Good luck. >> Yeah, good luck. >> Thank you. Appreciate it. Thanks for your time. >> Okay, next is a presentation of the POS High School varsity dance trip. Coach Perkins, >> and that was my maiden name, by the way. >> That's my married name. >> Hi, my name is Emily Perkins. Um, I'm the new head coach of the varsity dance team at Publo
West High School. Um, I'm here this evening to share some exciting news and requests that we are able to go on this trip. So, earlier this season, the dance team, we earned a bid to nationals and nationals is in Orlando, Florida. Um, you have to be invited. It's a tremendous honor that we were invited and it recognizes the dedication, hard work, and the talent that our students and our athletes put into the program and the work that they do throughout their seasons. Um, this season we have 10 dancers on our team and we are hoping to travel from February 5th to the 9th and compete in hiphop and palm. We're pushing them out of their comfort zone a little this year. Um, we have several parents that are planning to travel with us if we
are approved to go. Um, ensuring that we will have ample chaperoons and just people all around to support while we're on our trip. Um, our primary focus while we're there will be dancing and competing, but our competition package includes park admission. So, after we are done competing, the students do have a day or two to just enjoy the four parks that are around while we are there. Um, we are so proud to represent PBLO West High School in the public community on a national stage and we will look forward to bringing that school spirit and pride with us to Florida if approved. Um, thank you guys for your time and consideration tonight and for your continued support of our students and the extracurricular programs that we put on. >> Give you ease my my best.
>> I love all of them. >> I love I love I love that wardrobe. >> No, I think >> Thank you so much. >> Okay. Um, we have open forum. We have any comments? >> No, ma'am, we do not. >> All right. All right. Item nine is consent agenda. Do I have a motion to approve these items? >> So moved. >> I second. >> John Christensen. >> Yay. >> Chris Duga. >> Yay. >> Kathy Holland. >> Hi. >> Ann O. Yay. >> A Wilson. >> Yay. >> Motion carried. >> Okay. The next board meeting is scheduled Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 at Educational Services Center beginning at 6 PM. We're going to adjourn our regular meeting and we are going to reconvene to executive session. And that's it
