I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Today we will hear from four school principles who are here with to introduce their special guests. First off, we have

She is Next from David Purdue Primary School, we have Mrs. Kathy Gibbs. >> Thank you for having us today. >> Um, I want Oh, there. Now it's on. Thank you. Sorry. Yes, now we're here. So, first I would like to introduce to you our teacher of the year, Miss Amy Von Oven, who is a prek teacher at our school. Not only was she our top teacher of the year last year for this school year, but she also was a top five teacher of the year. She also is a mentor for our pre-K teachers that come into Hston County, not just in our school, but countywide. She helps write curriculum with do with Miss Eddie at

um the central office to make sure our prek teachers are equipped and ready to go. This year our team has also led with her guidance and leadership a PLC um segment during their um quarterly meetings with all the prek teachers in the county in our school. She does serve on guiding coalition as well as leading our pop and pandas. She's a very active member at Shirley Hills Baptist Church and she's just a joy to have in our school because her understanding of child development and how fouryear-olds grow, develop, and learn. So, this is Miss Amy Vonovven, our teacher of the year. And alongside her, she brought one of her students. This is Wes Watkins. And Wes is a prek student in her classroom. We have to love Mr. Wes. And he loves coming to the

Panda School. He proudly says, "I get to learn everything." And at lunch today, he soaked up what it meant to come to the board office. But he brings joy and positiv positively impacts her classroom, but also our entire school. He is an important part of their class family because he is kind. He has a servant heart and he is always eager to help his teachers and his friends. One great thing he loves is Bear Down. He loves to go to the Hston County football games. His parents are teachers at Hston County and so he loves to watch his dad conduct the band there. He um is well loved by his classmates and he makes friends easily. He is a strong leader in that classroom and we look forward to the great things he will continue

to do at the Panda School. Would you like to say >> good afternoon? >> Okay, Miss um Vonovven because she is our Popin Panda's um leader. She invited one of our second grade gifted students. This is Violet Justice and Violet is a gifted student in Miss Don Hardy's class. But I the she was chosen by Miss um Vonovven is because not only is she an active member on the PP and Pandas, but she is a true leader. The girls on the team look to her in a leadership role and capacity, but she shows commitment to teamwork and she does it with such strong confidence. Also, she's an enthusiastic participant of our LEGO robotics team where she shines at problem solving and creativity. Not only is she on the robotics team, but she also is a

active member on our steam club and she shows that she's eager to explore, build, and think innovatively um on in that club time. Her favorite subject is math, which is great for a young lady to have math as her favorite subject and she has very strong skills and is able to help others in her classroom. At home, she told me she enjoys jumping on that trampoline. She enjoys running and Miss um Vonovven even said she is a strong gymnast. So, these are our pandas today and thank you again for having us. >> Thank you. Now we have Parkwood Elementary School principal, Mrs. Kelly Mud. >> Hey, thank you'all so much for having us today. With us, I have three wonderful Parkwood Eagles. I'm going to start on the far end with our current teacher of

the year, Dr. Gilmore Barber. She is one of our EIP teachers at Parkwood and a very important member of our intervention team. If you've ever had the opportunity to watch her teach, you will just be blown away by the energy she brings to every one of her lessons. um her students love being served by her and our um teachers love um the mentorship that she brings to them and just the guidance that she always brings. Um she's very good at helping our students grow not only academically but helping them also with their confidence. She has a strong legacy of um education in her family. Her mom was recently inducted into the Hston County Teacher Hall of Fame, so education runs in in her blood. um she always is willing to help out wherever she can

to make Parkwood a better place and we really appreciate Dr. Gilmore Barber. All right. And then next I have one of our kindergarten students, Miss Zale Hillman. Um I chose Zale to represent Parkwood today because she truly represents what we want in our youngest learners to be eager to learn and to love coming to school. Um, Zaye told me that she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up because she loves science, but she also loves math because her teacher lets her work out problems on the Vonic board. So, she loves being able to do that. Outside of school, um, Zalee loves participating in cheerleading. I asked her teachers to tell me some things about Zale and they said that she is very smart and very eager to come to school every day. She's

a great leader and is kind to her classmates. and we love having Zay at Parkwood and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow. And then finally, I have one of our fifth graders, Mr. Dearley Williams. He's one of our overachieving fifth graders in Mr. Arthur's class at Parkwood. Um, Demarley has been a student at Parkwood since kindergarten. And I chose Dearley because he represents the growth and confidence we strive to build in our students before they leave us and head into the middle schools. And Demarley has his future already planned out. Okay. He is going to go to college and major in engineering while at the same time playing college football. And then after college, he hopes to be in the NFL, but if not, he'll work on the engineering thing. Um, and

outside of school, he loves to play both football and basketball. And I asked um Mr. Arthur to tell me some things that he loves about Demarley, and he said he just exemplifies what it means to be a leader. He's often leading helping lead class discussions and he's very passionate about his education and making good grades. He said it's a privilege to teach Demarley and we're going to miss Demarley when he leaves Parkwood, but I know he's going to do great things when he continues at Northside Middle. So, thank you all for having us. >> And now from Perry Middle School, principal Dr. Heath Burch. >> Good morning everyone. Thank you for having us today. With me, I have three outstanding Panthers I'm glad to have here. I'll start with Mr. Blake Inis on the end.

Blake is an outstanding eighth grade student. Leadership, character, and work ethic make a lasting impact on our school. Blake is a student who leads by example. His teachers describe him as extremely coachable, dependable, and someone who gives his best effort every single day. Academically, Blake works hard to maintain an A average and a couple of those classes are high school credit courses, so they're accelerated classes. Beyond the classroom, he is our FFA president, a role in which he embraces with servant leadership. Blake's positive impact is felt across our school culture. Teachers consistently note his willingness to help peers respectful and thoughtful conversations with both students and adults. Blake is also deeply involved in FCA. He is a member of our football team and our basketball team. Uh through it all, Blake remains positive, grounded, and

consistent in doing the right thing. So, thank you, Blake. Next, I have Miss Camden West. Camden is the kind of student that every teacher hopes to have in their classroom. She is consistently prepared, respectful, and reliable, and she approaches each day with a quiet confidence that speaks volumes about her work ethic. Her teachers describe her as someone who doesn't seek attention yet naturally leads by example through a work ethic, her kindness, and a willingness to help others. This year, Camas has Camden has shown tremendous growth inside the classroom, especially in her band music class, where she is now one of the top players in her class. Not only has she mastered her part, but she's also helping classmates learn theirs. Uh, Camden holds herself incred to an incredibly high standard. maintaining all A's while also

being advanced classes. Beyond the classroom, Camden is dedic is a dedicated athlete. Uh she is one of our basketball players, which they are undefeated right now. So, keep up the great work. She is focused, competitive, and disciplined, leading by example and showing that quiet determination on the basketball court. When asked about success, Camden shares this advice. Stay focused on your goals, stay determined, and put in the hard work. and she lives that every day inside the classroom. So, thank you. Next, I have our 2025 teacher of the year, Mrs. Erica Meiselle. Miss Meiselle is in her 24th year in education, her 12th at Perry Middle School. Uh she is a proud military kid who moved around a lot in high school and before and that taught her adaptability, uh resilience, and empathy. and she brings

that uh to her classroom ensuring every student feels welcome, supported, and valued. Miss Meiselle has taught all three grade levels and multiple subjects, but we finally, you know, we got her in a wheelhouse right now. She is our eighth grade algebra teacher and she has led our students to amazing achievement goals the last few years. They do amazing things inside the room. Um, but it's not just about that to her. She builds strong personal relationships with every student, motivating them to grow, take risks, and discover their own potential. She creates a classroom culture where students are confident, engaged, and excited to learn. And as a frequent visitor to her classroom, I know it's cliche to say that, you know, she teaches bell to bell, but she does. She teaches bell to bell at a high

standard. And as a parent who've had kids in her room, um, she she lights a fire in them for education. you know, they work really, really hard and they never complain about the hard work they're doing and it shows when it comes time to display that success in a tested area or anything else. They do amazing things. Erica also is dedicated to extracurricular activities and leadership. She serves on leadership committee. She's coached and she's always willing to step up and help a peer. We greatly appreciate Mrs. Misel's passion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our students. So, thank you, Mrs. Misel. Thank you to each of our guests. We love hearing from our schools and learning more about our great students and staff. Now, at this time, I'll turn it over to Dr. Rogers, who will

recognize our other visitors. Good afternoon. Want to thank you all for being here at the board meeting. Glad to have you with us today. You know, each year our business office staff, and I see them sitting right there, they work hard to prepare for a successful audit. And guys, that's hard work. At this time, I would like to invite their team to join us up front along with Miss Hope Pendergrass. And uh Miss Hope is with Malden and Jenkins who will make a special special presentation to our team. She's making me be in the middle. >> Well, good afternoon everyone. I appreciate the opportunity to be here. As Dr. Rogers mentioned getting ready for an audit is not an easy task. I am I'm sure of that and doing an audit is not an easy

task, but the opportunity that we have to come work with Ms. Morris and her team is always a great one. They're ready for us. They're kind of happy to see us, which normally nobody's ever happy to see the auditor, but we appreciate the, you know, the hospitality that they provide to us. So, I'm just going to give a brief synopsis of the audit for the year. Um, so the objective of financial statement audit is to provide an opinion on whether or not your financial statements are materially correct. And we found that to be true for house and county schools for fiscal year 25. So we're proud to report that you all receive a clean or unmodified opinion and had no findings. So that's the headline there, right? So the next thing I want to talk

about is that um you have strong fund balance which you probably had about 17 and a half weeks of reserves as of June 30th, 2025. And I think that's important because there's a lot of cost that any school district might face that's impacted by other things, legislative matters, employee benefits, etc. So, it's important to have a strong reserve. You perform well in regard to your budget. Um, you had um an excess over budgeted amounts of about 9.7 million, which again, you know, that just goes to the stewardship and the, you know, the emphasis that you all place on being good stewards of the funds that you were provided with. In addition to our financial statement audit, we also conduct a single audit or compliance audit over federal programs. For fiscal year 25, the school district

expended about 52.7 million in federal funds. That includes like your special education programs, your title one program, child nutrition. And we don't look at all those programs every year, but this year we looked at special education and title one, which represented about 15 million or 29% of the total expenditures. And we found everything to be in order. And that's another thing that's very hard to do sometimes. all the eyes and cross all the tees in regard to federal compliance. But again, this year you all and the team and the management here were able to um fly through that with with good colors there. Um we also perform a SPLAS audit. So what we do is if any school district that receives over $5 million in SPL expenditures each year, we do a SP audit whereby

we look at the processes and controls that you all have in place over the expenditures of those funds. We're certainly not contractors, so we can't tell you that building build up to code, but we just ensure that you have good processes in place to make sure that everything's being done as it should be. And again, we were able to um issue a clean opinion in regard to that. So, in summary, again, I just want to um congratulate Mrs. Morris and her team for always doing a good job and for management and the board for supporting them in all of their efforts. So, thank you very much. You know, while they're going back to their seats, I also want to compliment them on the semionthly. That's been a great change for our school district, being paid

twice a month. I'm seeing some heads nod there and that added a lot more work to our HR and business office team and I just want to thank them for doing that because to be paid twice a month is much better for our employees than once a month. So, thank you for doing that and for a successful audit. All right, at this time there's a team here who likes to beat the adults in their games. And I think we have a match that's going to be planned for later this year. And I asked them if they would let us win one. and they looked at me and said no. They said it nicely professionally, but um we do have a few of them graduating, too. So, this will be a big game to celebrate. And

so, at this time, um I would love to invite our Sharks up, but let me say this. We are celebrating their state handball championship. Every time we turn around, these guys get a championship. You guys are winners, and I love it. We have a nice trophy case for them to showcase it. They play in the Shark Tank at the Lindsay Student Support Center. So, we're proud of you guys. Want to thank the coaches. So, this time, will the Sharks come forward? Dr. Rogers, uh the executive Kevin and our distinguished board, we want to thank you for this opportunity to be recognized today for our state championship in handball. Our coaches for this team, varsity team, was coach Randall and Coach Wilds and they were introduced to team. >> All right. So, this was our 42nd

state championship win over the past 19 years. I'll introduce our team. We have Caleb, Dalton, Kaden, Anthony, Leila, Jaden, Asher, and then our interpreters, Miss Jamie, and Miss Melissa, who are always helping us out. Um, yeah, it our four seniors, um, Dalton, Kaden, Anthony, and Jaden. A lot of our successes because of them, so we're going to greatly miss them. But again, thank you for having us here and sharing this opportunity with us. Okay. Uh, now to our the business portion. Uh, need to adopt the agenda. Mr. >> Mr. Chairman, I move we adopt the agenda as printed. >> Second. >> We have a motion to adopt the agenda by Mr. Crockett, seconded by Mr. Nichols. Is there any discussion? Hearing none. All in favor, raise your hand. Vote is 70. It passes. Next, our

minutes. M. Mr. Chairman, I move that we approve the minutes from the previous meeting. >> Second. >> We have a motion to approve approve the minutes from the previous meeting from Mr. Crockett and seconded by Miss Johnson. Is there any discussion, corrections? None. All in favor, raise your hand. 70. Motion passes. It's time for our board member comments and I've asked um Miss Hughes if she would lead us off this. >> Okay. Thank you so much, Dr. Enrew. And um welcome to everyone that's present here today. Um thank you uh especially to Dr. Cummings and her North Side Elementary staff for hosting our work session last evening. It was truly a a very um warm and um welcoming and hospitable um event last night. Um a special congratulations to our Sharks. Um I didn't know

until I just heard that this is your 42nd championship. That is amazing. Um I am so proud of all of you and you have taken a disadvantage and turned it into an advantage and you are truly an inspiration to all of us. So thank you. Now um my final thoughts years ago there was a board member at Dr. Toby Hill and he would get from time to time on his soap box and I suppose I'm going to get on my soap box a little bit today. Um, I'm not nearly as wise or profound as Dr. Hill was, but I'm doing this day to kind of in memory of Dr. Hill because he was a mentor to me when I first joined this board. So, as a board member, I've been honored to serve this district

for many years. And during that time, I've seen lots of changes. I've seen new initi in initiatives, new leadership, new programs, new curriculums. You name it, we've had new stuff. Even had new chairs. Um, I actually started in 2009 at that end and sat in that end chair and somehow I have managed to move all the way around to this chair. Not sure what that means, but I'm here. Through all the changes though, I also have seen something far more powerful, and that's the consistency of our mission and the strength of our values. I've watched students come and go, grow in confidence because someone believed in them. I've seen educators go the extra mile, not because they had to, but because they cared. And I've seen how many decisions made in this room at this

table can ripple outward across this county and really across this state that changes lives. Those moments are why this work happens and matters. Being an effective board member is not about egos. It's not about hidden agendas. It's not about listening to those gentle and sometimes loud whispers in our ears or yielding to pressure from outside forces. It's about making a difference each and every day in the lives of our most precious commodity, our students. So change is inevitable but improvement is a choice. When we work together grounded in our shared values, we don't just manage change, we shape it. So together we can continue strengthening this district so that every student who walks through our doors has more opportunity than the one before them. That is a legacy worth for striving for and one that

truly matters. Thank you. Thank you. Would any other board members like to offer comments? This time we will turn it over to Dr. Rogers for the superintendent report. >> It's hard to follow that message now. >> Thank you, Miss Helen. >> All right, guys. We have a lot to celebrate today. our AP school honor role. Recently, Hston County High School Veterans High School earned silver level distinction on the advanced placement school honor role. And to earn this recognition, these schools met rigorous researchbased criteria related to the AP participation, performance, and student access across grade levels. We are proud of the administrators, teachers, counselors, and students. We have a few of them in the room today. academic bowls. You know, I don't know if you know this little figure or this little fact about me, but

I used to be an academic bowl coach. I love academic bowl. But congratulations to the Bonire Middle School academic bowl team who won first place at both the Paige Regional Middle School and our Hston County middle school championship. And Bonaire will now advance to the Paige State Middle School academic bowl competition in March, the state competition. Good job on air. Also at the elementary level, Hilltop Elementary's academic bowl team was named the champion of the Hston County Elementary Bowl competition. Congratulations to the top on that. And we've got some region champions. Congratulations to Perry High School and Hston County High School for their first place wins at their regional swim championship. The Hston County girls team and the Perry High boys and girls teams brought home trophies in their respective regions. Tell you that aquatic

center is a special place, guys, and we're glad to have it here in Hston County. Hston County's high school girls wrestling team also won their region championship in DS and traditional wrestling. Next, guys, we had Hston Cares. I was able to participate or or go visit this this past weekend and it was a very heartfelt uh place to be. But Hston Cares was held last weekend at Lindsay Student Support Center and it was had a tremendous success. I want you to think about this. We impacted 425 people receive services such as vision, hearing, health, dental screenings along with preventive and followup services. House Cares continues to demonstrate our district's commitment to taking care of the whole child and the family and community. This event is possible through strong collaborations, partnerships with local healthc care providers,

educational institutions, and community partners. I want to thank Dana Wiggins and your student services team for putting that on for us. In this same room a while back, we had a star student teacher event. want to congratulate the star student teachers from each of our high schools. The Perry the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce and the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce recently held this event and we announced Michael Doe from Hston County as the county level star student and he selected Miss Jenny Jackson as his star teacher. So Michael and Mrs. Jackson will advance to the regional competition in March. All right, our counselors raise your hand. We have a lot of them in the house. Hold them up high. Be proud, y'all. Let's just give them a hand. We could not run our schools

without you guys. Thank you for being here. Last week was National School Counseling Week. School counselors work closely with students to remove barriers to learning, address academic concerns, discuss career options, and build social and emotional skills. We have over 60 school counselors in our school district. Not all of them could be here today, but we wanted to recognize those who are in the room. So, just please know counselors what a difference you make each day and what an important part of our house and county team you are. And thank you for being here today. We've got some upcoming dates. Our schools will be closed for President's Day on Monday, February 16th. Why are you smiling over there? One of my Sharks players. And also on Tuesday, February 17th will be a distance learning day for

our students and a site collabor collaboration day for our teachers and staff. Finally, guys, we have a big date coming at Veterans High School on February 21st at 9:00, we will have our teacher recruitment fair. And I'm going to tell you guys, we have a movement going on taking care of each other and supporting each other. And this is the place to be. So we ask you to reach out to others and say you want to come County, you want to be here. Invite them to that teacher recruitment fair and have them join this movement we have of supporting one another. We pay well, we're professional, and we'll take care of them. Thank you all. At this time, we'll have a brief intermission for our students to return to their school so they can return

home. All right, we're back. Uh, last night we we looked and discussed the good things that are happening in our county on the department through the department reports that we we read and enjoyed. Um, are there any is there any other further comment or discussion? Something that you'd like to bring up or ask? Okay, we'll move on then to our new business, Mr. Nichols. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
