The coaches especially said appreciate you and of course the cabinet for being there as a team. So if you didn't show up to that game, you missed two great games. >> I mean, they were exciting to the very last second. And of course on Saturday had the trillion competition and uh that was pretty good. Awesome. So appreciate everybody that came out. >> Awesome. Any other comments, by members? >> So um yes, I think Dr. Rogers, you're everywhere. So, if somebody's got a GPS on you, it's going to be going everywhere, all over the map. So, that's great. Thank you for representing our county.
So, well, okay, at this time, we will have your comments, Dr. Rogers. >> Now, I have lots of comments. So, I'm glad y'all kept it short, >> but I do have a clone out there. I guess the secret is out now, but uh it's good to be with you all tonight. You'll notice that many of us have on red, white, and blue in early recognition of Veterans Day. As a proud home of Robins Air Force Base, we understand the sacrifices made by our service members and their families. Many of you have served and many more are connected to milit military service through loved ones. We are grateful for your courage, commitment, and dedication to our nation and our freedom. And as a reminder, and as was stated, our district will also be closed tomorrow as
we observe Veterans Day. Exemplary board recognition. Guys, you guys are looking at an exemplary board. Congratulations to this board once again for being recognized as exemplary board by the Georgia School Boards Association. Our board models what it means to lead together. Your commitment to collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement helps make Hston County one of the best school districts in Georgia. This recognition is a well-deserved reflection of your dedication to students, staff, and our community. And guys, I know we're used to this, but this really is a big deal for this board, and we thank you. Let's give them a hand, guys. Well, guys, we have literacy and math leaders again this year. Recently, the Georgia Department of Education recognized many of our schools that demonstrated exceptional achievement or growth in reading and math. Last year,
nine schools were recognized as literacy leader schools. Those were Centerville Elementary, Eagle Springs Elementary, Hilltop Elementary, Lake Joy Elementary, Matt Arthur Elementary, Northside Elementary, Northside Middle School, Parkwood Elementary, and Perry Middle School. Also, eight schools were recognized as math leader schools. Those were Bonire Middle, Fagen Mill, Hilltop Elementary, Huntington Middle, Mossy Creek Middle, Northside Middle, Perry Middle, and Thompson Middle School. These awards are a testament of the hard work and commitment demonstrated by our administrators, teachers, and students as we continuously improve our students reading and math skills. And we look forward to celebrating these schools in this room in the near future. Middle school sports. As was mentioned a few minutes ago, our middle schools recently held their county championship games for several fall sports. Congratulations to the seventh grade north side middle school football
team, the eighth grade Mossy Creek middle football team, and the Fagen Mill cheerleading team. We're proud of all of them. And region sports guys, congratulations to Hston County High School for winning their region competitions in softball and competition cheer. Perry High also won their region championship in volleyball. And congratulations to all of our student athletes. But guys, we also have one one act play winners here. Congratulations to Hston County High and Perry High for winning their respective region one act competitions and multiple individual acting awards. State Superintendent Council. We have two students from Hston County who are selected for the state school superintendent student advisory council this year. Serena Knox, a junior from Veterans High School, and Sebastian Singleton, a sophomore from how Hston County High School were among the 79 students chosen across the
state. We know they will represent our district well. And Reach Scholarship, guys, this was heartfelt. I participated in this. And if you ever just want to need a moment to smile and it makes your heart feel good. Six of our eighth grade students were recently named Reach Scholars and were awarded $10,000 toward college. Imagine walking a check $10,000 to a middle schooler. The Reach Georgia program provides support for students to help them successfully progress from middle school through college. These students will work with an academic coach and mentor throughout high school and will receive the scholarship funds upon high school graduation. We surprised these students during Red Ribbon Week. If you're wondering why, several of them have mustaches in the pictures. Congratulations to these deserving students. And guys, the cool part is we surprised the
students, but then the students surprised their parents. Imagine that phone call. And many of our administrators had fun with the parents. Listen, Miss Johnson, I'm sorry. I got Mitchell up here in the office. >> You never heard that, did you? That is not >> and and it was just so much fun. And one student, I think it was our Huntington one, was like, "Yeah, I mean, she just laid Yes, Mom. I'm I'm in the office." And she just added it to me, y'all. It was, I'm telling you, a special moment. If you need it, you travel with us when we give outreach scholarships. It was so great. Upcoming events in November, we will celebrate Family Engagement Month, uh, National School Psychology Week, and Substitute Appreciation Day. We do appreciate our substitutes. These positions are vital
to the success of our district and we are so thankful for each of these staff members. Now guys, there's a special birthday up here. Mark Ivory has a birthday coming up on November 14th. Happy early birthday, coach. Thank you. Thank you. Our friend Mark Ivory has a lot to celebrate this month. >> Oh yeah. >> You know, we had Thankful Thursday. It was such a meaningful day, guys. Finally, I want to close with this. Our district held our first annual Thankful Thursday last week, which was a day for our staff to intentionally seek out ways to show their appreciation for others. Districtwide, our staff found ways to thank someone for the impact they made. They write they wrote notes of encouragement. They sent texts. Some even gave small gifts. It was a simple but powerful
reminder of how kindness and connection strengthen our school family. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to make it a new tradition each year. In keeping with the theme of thankfulness, I want to express my appreciation to the community for renewing the East Bloss Penny sales tax. This vote ensures that our district can continue to update facilities, increase security, and give our students and staff the resources they need without the entire tax burden going solely to our property owners. It is truly an honor to serve this community that values education and believes in supporting its schools. We take that trust seriously and we remain committed to being good stewards of every dollar and every opportunity entrusted to us as we provide the best education for the students of Hston County. Thank you, Madam Chair.
I'll turn it back over to you. >> Thank you, Dr. Rogers. Um, next we will move on to our department reports. Are there any questions or comments regarding the department reports? >> Mr. Ivy, did you have any any questions about the LL? >> I spoke with Dr. F. >> Okay. So, >> we're good. >> All that's been addressed. Any other questions or comments? >> The only thing that I want to say is go Sharks. >> Go Sharks. >> Yes, >> they're awesome. >> And thank you to all of you for getting our department reports ready. I move that um that we approve the proposed adjustments to the elementary attendant zones for Parkwood Elementary and Westside Elementary Schools beginning with the 2026 2027 school year.
