First, we are proud to recognize two outstanding students from our school district who were

honored with the rising star award from the NAACP at their annual Freedom Banquet in October. This distinguished award celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and character. Celely Simmons from a fourth grader at Dunar exemplifies leadership, integrity, and commitment and helps make a positive impact at her school. She also serves on the principal's roundt and is an active member of the Beta Club, patrol squad, and playworks team. Asa Asha Tagert, excuse me, fifth grader at Avant, is admired for her leadership, integrity, and dedication to serving others. She approaches her um her opportunities with purpose, always striving to uplift those around her and uh she truly does embody the spirit of the NAACP rising student rising star award. So we congratulate both of these outstanding young students on the welldeserved recognition. Additionally, Cynthia Roller, fourth grade

teacher at Wveter Young School of Excellence, has been named a recipient of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. Miss Roller was selected for her dedication, innovation, and lasting impact in the classroom. And she's also receiving an award certificate and an engraved crystal apple from Emerson in recognition of the her outstanding contributions to education. She is one of approximately a hundred within the region um celebrated for exemplifying educational excellence and inspiring a love of learning in students. It's one of the region's most respected teacher recognition initiatives and honors educators who go above and beyond for their students and school communities. Similarly, the Charles E. Fleming Legacy Foundation is recognizing contributions of dedicated educators from across the region at their upcoming December holiday brunch and among those honores will include Esther Spells, teacher at Lincoln Middle School,

and Chantel Crawford, teacher at Dunar Elementary. The education awards were also named in honor of the longtime St. Louis County NAACP president and former Missouri state representative, the late Esther Haywood and her late husband Edward Haywood. Both of the Haywoods had taught more than 30 years within East St. Louis School District 189 and devoted lives their lives to community empowerment and urban public education. Mrs. Haywood recently passed away last November. Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville is also going to be honoring our school district with an award recognizing our district's outstanding contributions to educator preparation. The district is being recognized for our strong multi-year partnership with SIOE. In fact, we've been hosting the university's secondary education course um for multiple years and are collaborating also to provide intensive practicum opportunities for student teachers across elementary, middle,

and the high school levels. So, this we will be receiving the award. Our human resources department will be representing us on December 2nd as we um continue to support future educators and provide meaningful highquality learning experiences that benefit student teachers as well as the broader school community. The six new tennis courts at East St. Louis Senior High School have been selected to receive a distinguished facility award from the American Sports Builders Association. McConnell's and Associates, who's the contractor responsible for installing the courts, submitted the nomination for this national recognition, which honors excellence in sports facility design, construction, and innovation. And in addition to receiving the facility award, we are also a finalist for the ASBA's prestigious facility of the year award, which will be announced later in December. The honor does highlight the district's commitment

to commitment to providing highquality athletic facilities that support student athletes and the broader community. The six state-of-the-art tennis courts were completed in May and were funded in part by grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the United States Tennis Association, as well as the US USA section and St. Louis district. We have seven seven alumni from East St. Louis Senior High School who were recently inducted into the Western Illinois [clears throat] University Athletic Hall of Fame. Each of them were members of the 1978 WIU men's track and field team, which held over 20 top 10 records and finished third in the Division 2 National Championship meet. Our senior high school won the Illinois high school track and field 2A championships in years 1975,767 and 78 under the leadership of coach Jimmy Lewis.

Those honores included Marvin Edmunds, Keith Bond, David Harden, Tyrone Taylor, Stanley Braggs, Al Barrett, and Marvin Townsend. And last, but certainly not least, we want to recognize the value of our school board members and the dedication that they give. November 15th is always annually designated as school board member day in the state of Illinois and it honors the dedication of nearly 6,000 elected school board members across our state. But today, we re proudly recognize our board of education members for their tireless commitment to our community. We thank you for ensuring that our schools are welcoming, safe, and supportive places where every student can pursue their dreams. We thank you and value for your um your volunteer hours that you dedicate to our school district and are grateful for your leadership and dedication in helping build

a stronger future through education. So, there is a token of our appreciation in the bags in front of of you. So, please take those when you leave and you will see the certificate that is noted there on your desk as well. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. >> And I know superintendent wants to say a few additional words be but before he does um as soon as we finish the meeting, I would like to gather everyone for a quick photo if you don't mind. No, really on behalf of the administration, um, students especially and and our staff, we really do appreciate the support that we get from our board of education. You know, I hear from superintendents across the nation and even in Illinois also, even

nearby, that there's so much friction between the administration, staff, and the board. And I'm so blessed that we don't experience that here. We know that you guys are just volunteering and we know that it takes away a lot of your time from your family and from your professional lives in order to support our school district. So, we really do appreciate it and I hope that you guys enjoy the gifts that we've uh got for you here today. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> All right.
