one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all this nerdy paid a whole call here let's come here here yes here tonight we have recognitions Dr protest ing okay visitor statement did anyone here for visitors statement we have a large crowd but I know everyone has other tasks ahead we're going to move on to the Student Association report please you guys can sit down today I know you always like awesome there's enough chairs they're living good that's your last meeting yes thank you so we just want to start off by saying thank you for having us tonight all right we're going to start off with the Brookfield project nice and the Riverside Day of Service so on April 15th we had the Riverside Day of Service on and on April 22nd we had

the Brookfield project nice students were invited to participate in both of these days and basically what it was is just getting student participation in the community and kind of clean like and allowing them to get service hours within the community I went to the Riverside data service on April 15th and I helped mulch Guthrie Park it was similar events to that on the Brookfield project nice I don't know if it's very specifics of it but it was similar events cleaning up the community community service student involvement all of that um continuing with uh community service and things we've done in the community um a couple of sa members including me Olivia and Chloe Last Friday went to css's uh fundraiser their annual fundraiser and we helped them run things such as their check-in welcoming people

in taking photos and various different jobs throughout that night and some csses oh Community Support Services they do a lot of stuff with people after transitions um in RV and other places and we just helped them run their event that night and it was really fun a great time very recently we had we were we've been collecting pop tops for the past three weeks so the Ronald McDonald house and we are proud to announce that we collected over we collected 170 pounds of Pop Tops which is over 215 000 pop towels which is nearly double what we are used to getting on a year yearly basis and with that grand total of 215 000 that has pushed us over 2 million pop tops donated to the Ronald McDonald house since I believe it was 2006

when we first started donating which means that our school's name will be moved from where it is now on at Ronald McDonald House to the location where all the to the 2 million Club I think [Music] we'll be displayed there what's the next level you should make three million yeah um and then on February 22nd we held our second blood drive of the year and we held it in the East gym like we normally do and this one we had um 54 donors in total which saves um 162 lives which was really awesome and that was um a lot more than our first one um in addition to that we had a lot of new donors and first-time donors so we were really happy with that that we were able to get the message across

to lots of different people and involve more students um we are very fortunate to be able to do these blood drives and we are having our last one on Friday May 12th and um due to AP testing and like vital into availability we'll only be having one of their um like blood drive trucks so we will only be able to get like 22 donors but we are still happy that we can get us anything at all and give back to the community in that way too um this semester we've had a number of spirit Fridays which is just spirit days that essay sponsors throughout the year um including our February spirit week which is sponsored by our senior class officers for the Winter Dance that we had and we also had our St Patrick Spirit

day which is just wearing green we had a lot of participants in that throughout the student body which was great um like every Spirit Friday we have these are calendared in our six hour classes so teachers six hour will count the number of students who are wearing any sort of spirit wear pertaining to that day and then that class depending on the percentage we'll get candy sent to their class so it's a really great kind of way to incentivize wearing spirit wear and just kind of get the whole school pumped up especially towards the end of the year um our last beer at Friday or I guess uh spirit Thursday we have this week so tomorrow we're doing um denim day for sexual abuse awareness and also on Thursday we have wearing blue for Autism

Awareness so we've been promoting that through our school mind and through the essay Instagram so we hope to have a lot of participation in that so this year the senior class officers decided to bring back the Winter Dance the dance was titled snow coming and had great over time great attendance overall the week leading to the dance include trivia night a spirit week as Chloe talked about and um the pep rally the pep rally was held on Valentine's Day and was Valentine's Day themed um we did a lot of new activities and games including a very fun one with a giant beach ball that many people enjoyed um a lot of good feedback came from the pep rally including people saying that it's just a nice thing to look forward to so late in the

year and it really brings back some school spirit that people have been missing so overall myself and many other people are looking forward to hopefully another dance and pep rally at that time next year so this week is prom week and our prom will be this Friday from 6 to 10 p.m at the Oak Brook Hills Hilton Resort and the junior class officers are in charge of planning like everything's prom related and so this year they chose the theme masquerade oh and then tomorrow we have our exec board and class officer election for the upcoming school year um and we have one contested position for our executive board and we have four students running for two appointed officer positions um in the upcoming sophomore class and um us seniors are very excited to share that

our president next year will be miss Emily Hernandez and our vice president for me Miss Bella Ventura [Applause] um so we do have uh we're starting to plan our freshman orientation that we have annually it will be this year it'll be on August 10th from 10 to 11 30 in the morning and so any freshman who came to our table at the future Bulldog night or received a pamphlet um found like they'll know of that date ahead of time and I'm and we've been communicating with parents or they will be communicating with parents over the summer um as long as like sending things out to Future students when they sign up and come for registration sign ups for our orientation leaders will begin tomorrow and we will also have like be following up with them

throughout the summer to make sure that they're still committed to coming because it is I mean it's an hour and a half and these students kind of rely on it it gives them a tour around the school and they answer questions about clubs and activities here um I also so we will follow up with them throughout the summer and I also and Bella we personally follow up with all the people that we kind of promote so we're very excited I love freshman orientations that'll be good and we just want to say thank you for giving us the opportunity to talk to you during the board meetings this year and we love just sharing all the accomplishments that RB has we all think RB is a great school and we just love representing it Your Enthusiasm

and commitment is phenomenal you guys have been really wonderful in organizing all these activities and presenting to the board so thank you very much to each and every one of you congratulations looking forward to next week yeah the seniors on the essay do you want to share where you're heading off to or what your plans are After High School do you want to start I'm going to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to study electrical engineering pre-physicians assistant track and I'm minoring in Spanish and dance I'm going to Michigan State and I'm majoring in psychology I'm going to the University of Alabama I will be majoring in marketing with minors in Spanish and real estate congratulations and good luck to all of you we'll still see you for the next few weeks here look forward to having

a good prom right safe yes yes happy graduation thank you anyone else have any comments for the essay thank you very much [Music] thank you oh yeah so um you know I'm always on the committee of the whole agenda we have a district goals update and at this point in time I'd like to introduce we have several members from the district equity and leadership team and that is directly related to one of the board of education's newly adapted goals uh Marianne if you can go to the slide presentation please on the screen oh they will in a second we want to call them up now I don't know how you want to I was just gonna do the brief intro but if they want to come up to the table they can now these are

all our strand leaders you'll understand why strand is here shortly Marianne if you go to slide two to District Equity efforts so in February of 2021 the school district began working with Dr Yvette zubiel to provide systemic education Equity training for the entire staff and April 21 the Board of Education adopted a new mission statement in the spring of 22 the Board of Education adapted new goals for the district one of those goals was specifically focused on diversity equity and inclusion the next slide Marianne please uh in fronting on the overhead is the board of goal which is continue ongoing training and a smart goal for this year was a district Equity leadership team would be developed and facilitated by Dr Yvette dubiel to create an equity action plan so Dr dubiel and Dr Fred

S have taken a lead on this to help the district create its Equity action plan next slide these are is a list of all of our adult members several who are here tonight Juan tanoco Lindsay minol Mark helgeson Kevin baldus Kylie Lindquist Dave mannon Brennan Curtin Beth Augustine Jessica moritzen Armando alcohol and so um the equity action plan if you're wondering what the equity action plan is the EAP is an accountability framework to identify measures and sustain actions to advance Equity it is a collaborative process developed with District stakeholders and relies on systemic commitment to best behavior for all students five strands to best serve all students five strands of our systemic Equity plan our systems teaching and learning student voice climate culture professional learning and family and Community agency and so tonight each one

of these groups is going to give you a brief update on where they are with their individual strains so the first strand will be Dr smetana and systems uh good evening so systems focuses on the district's policies processes and procedures to ensure that we have a systematic and continuous development towards advancing Equity within the district it also focuses or encompasses HR practices as well as the district's physical responsibilities um as you can see the Strand is comprised of Dr skincus myself Juan tanoko who's here tonight as well as Mike Ryan gruber's guidance counselor and jonatha Gary English teacher uh next year on the next slide we have uh four objectives I'll talk about the first two um so the first one is uh we need to define equity as a district to ensure when we

reference Equity everyone is on the same page so to do so we plan to research uh definitions and pick uh three final definitions to survey all stakeholders and receive feedback before revising the definition to arrive at our common definition uh that we will be using to move forward with equity next uh the second objective is we would bring that definition to the board and ask the board to also adopt uh that definition of equity on behalf of the district um next before I turn it over to Juan we're going to focus on on two HR issues but I wanted to provide a little framing for the board as a one school district and talking to Dr dubiel uh hiring practices are really difficult when it comes to diversifying staff because we don't always have many

full-time openings um and weren't also not the only District trying to do this for example in World languages I don't think we've hired a full-time teacher in the past nine years so it's not we don't always have a lot of opportunities available to do this and so while we want to certainly make sure our staff continue to reflect the student body whenever we can we also wanted to create goals for next year that were realistic and also achievable within a year's time frame as we continue to move forward with Equity so at this point I'll turn it over tomorrow okay thank you thank you Dr Smith Hannah and so the third objective as you can see right there is for to recruit equity-minded staff members so the measure would be to create a recruitment video

to encourage diverse hires to apply so that video has actually already in the process of being made already along uh with having faculty members as well participate in that video uh it's pretty much talk about not only how great RB is but also as well to help with the diversification of our faculty and staff and the fourth uh objective right there is to hire equity-minded staff members so inclusion of equity questions and interviews so with that it would involve researching uh as Dr smitana said um questions that would be pretty much we would have we would ask not only faculty and staff members but all stakeholders to pretty much provide their input you know for these questions that would be included on the interview process so not only for for example for teachers but also

for Paris so before obviously putting them forward we would ask everybody's input on that thank you Juan uh our second strand teaching and learning um so the second strand teaching and learning um you know obviously you can read the screen but the idea here is that we want to make sure that we are embedding curriculum and resources um in a way that is Equitable to our students and creates an opportunity to you know reflect on our teaching and offer the best opportunity for all our students um so the our strand or teaching and learning strand um The Strain co-leaders are Kevin baldess John and Kyle Lindquist myself and Mark hugsen and then we also have John Beasley and Sonia rajek on our committee as well um when we started kind of laying out our plan

we noticed really quickly that we had like a you know nine-year plan of things um and we had to really dial back to what was like where could we start um you know this is this has the biggest um impact on students right away because it's what's happening in the classroom it's where they're setting seven periods a day so our first step is to develop a curriculum map um to ensure Equitable access to instruction as well as the inclusion of diverse perspectives courses and grade levels um and with the goal of doing that that we ultimately will have teams of teachers from every Department that will pilot it then see kind of what worked what did it come back revise and then roll it out to the staff so that we can you know first

see like what exactly are we doing and using um in a in a more kind of succinct way to make sure that we are hitting on every um course that we are doing um so next I will introduce for student voice and climate Mr Manhattan um the next area your student voice climate and culture our objective is to consistently seek students feedback on experiences at RB uh the culture and the climate and the building as well uh members of this trade is by self-branding curtains my last April Brown Mitch Dillinger with security and Kathleen horsey and I think what was nice is right from the get-go we identified that we wanted to build out kind of a three-step process so we're going to go over two objectives and a three-step manner or format and the

first objective would be to develop a student Equity leadership team or sells working out the Delta acronym here to design and review all culture and climate survey for all students so our objective number one would be to send an all School survey out to just an intro survey for our students it goes out to the entire student body that's going to happen next week to see who's interested in serving on this on this team and then I'll talk about next steps and with that um the members of this team would sort those applications those survey responses that was would be sent out next week by the end of this school year going forward that team of students would be identified and developing once those students are selected to be on this community I'll be able

to develop that survey for all students in regards to and from what those students that we put on the committee it's from their opinions it's from their thoughts it's from their experiences at RB on how we could make sure that we're getting feedback from all of our students so they're going to come up with a survey they're going to send out to our entire student body but it's student driven so that's our second step and I'm going to send it over to Mr Kirk for the second half of next year thank you Dave as Dave mentioned the the goal heading into the semester break next year is to have that um survey administered and collect as much data as we can from there the goal after that would be to for the Dell team and

the cell team to get together um and to brainstorm and how to best proceed with addressing and bringing awareness to the concerns our students have shared with us as a result of that survey so um I think the biggest hurdle moving forward is assembling the uh the adult team or I'm sorry the self team and making sure that we uh are all encompassing in terms of the different groups that we'd like to reach out to and making sure that we're reaching out to every different group and every student has the uh opportunity to be a part of that team so in summary three steps form the South team collaborate administer a school-wide survey brainstorm to determine the appropriate next steps I said I'd like to turn it over to Miss Augustine our next strand is

professional learning which is to provide a Continuum of professional learning and growth opportunities to all staff in pursuit of educational equity and our strand consisted of myself and Justin ripson who is oh salon um who is a World Language teacher and also a union president Don Lezak who is a paraprofessional Cara Weinberg dean of students and pushpa Winbush Bush so I will turn it over to Jessica and we'll talk about our objective and next steps thanks both thanks so much all of you um so we've had a lot of thoughtful conversations regarding how to gauge our staff's understanding surrounding diversity equity and inclusion and how to provide professional development opportunities for them so we have compiled a bit of a plan we'd like to share with you tonight so in September during one of our

PLC nights we'd like to send out our mornings I should say we'd like to send out Anonymous self-audit survey and what's going to happen there is all of our staff will take the survey and then we'll share out the data so we can assess where everyone is and have some sort of common understanding and then our team is going to analyze that data and then we're going to recommend professional development opportunities to our staff Meanwhile we're also to be sending out PD information monthly so every month we have some sort of common language that we're all speaking as well then we'd like to invite our staff to join our team and grow our team and make it a bit larger and attend these professional development opportunities together and then we would like to have recommendations

for that next 24-25 year next I'm going to turn it over to Armando and family and Community agency actually Dr Freitas we'll introduce it for you okay okay thank you Miss maritzen so our strand you know our mission is to partner with families and the community for authentic opportunities to serve the students the school and the district my team members are Armando Venegas co-strand leader Jordan macron strand leader Alberto Hawkins one of our Deans and myself our first objective is to engage the parents that we turn the group the parents and groups that we have in place so we have four major parent groups and we've already surveyed them asking them you know how could we you know help you know you all grow and meet your goals right we need to hear from the

parents that are currently active now we're also going to survey the parents you know at large as well the beginning a survey as well so once we once we generate once we create excuse me once we get the feedback from those surveys we'll be able to you know create an action plan moving forward but we understand that parents in the community is important and we're going to make sure they have a place you know here with us at RV Armando thank you Dr Fitness our second objective is to review our communication efforts for families in the community so this means that it involves a self-audit of uh all of our essential District documents our handbook uh IEPs safety Communications and ensuring that those are communicated in all of the other languages besides English in our

community that are spoken in our community as well as making sure that we do a self-audit of our events and activities and make sure that we provide opportunities ample opportunities for parents who are ethnically culturally linguistically diverse to be able to attend and participate as much as possible our third objective which is to research Community engagement programs and opportunities for the 2023-2024 year as Mr venegasus has stated our population is ever changing it's continuing to grow so how we're going to measure this research is obviously be we're going to do school business and have conferences so at the moment we have four schools that we are going to four districts that we're going to go out and research and Shadow uh glenbard Skokie Vernon Hills in Fenton um this will help us RB is great

but in order for us to continue to be great we have to continue to change we have to look at what other schools and what they've been doing so um that will I'm going to conclude our our devils [Music] I'd like to take this opportunity first on behalf of the board and myself to thank everybody for their time and commitment participation in this committee so the boards are where this group met on multiple occasions throughout the school year where we arrange for substitutes for them in a dedicated almost a full work day each time to working in their strands going through additional discussions and trainings and activities with Dr dubiel Dr Freitas and Dr Rubio did a good job coordinating and organizing all these efforts and we are very early in this process but I

think this group's committed and in line with what the board was seeking in that District school and at this time I'd like to turn it over to the board if they have any questions you're going to go visit four other districts that are diverse and see like because my thought was maybe there needs to be a parent Organization for that group so hopefully you'll get some good ideas on that visit yeah some of those schools that we mentioned they had those parent organizations um that work with those diverse groups they have um and family ambassadors okay um so yeah that's our main goal there our main goals next year thank you I have a question you mentioned the four parent groups that are music parents music sponsors to PTO so do we also have a

plan to reach out to the parents that aren't one of those groups correct yes okay we'll be sending a a survey alert to all the parents as well okay what are the four groups again Dr Freda um so we have the athletic boosters the music sponsors the PTO and the bpac the bilingual parent advisories committee okay and then you also have a parent group though of course and we have a race and Equity committee so there's five groups you doing Brian go ahead I have comments you are about to embark on unbelievably tough incredibly rewarding work expect a lot of pushback expect a lot of enthusiasm and expect a lot of non-progress to happen and keep your head down and keep going so uh my encouragement is completely here I was excited for the presentation

but input and hear more about it individually if you ever have a chance but um the most important work to create a place for everyone to have dignity and a place to learn good luck so so thank you I think this is really trying to put some structure around sometimes somewhat amorphous Concepts so this is very helpful to see the the five strands laid out I'm hearing a couple points where the board will have interaction in the near future on that Equity definition early on some of the interlap overlap excuse me with with board policy so I'm assuming that we'll go through the superintendent's policy group in terms of any policy changes we want to be looking at so we look forward to working with you on on that front and I'm also um particularly

interested in in the communication effort that fifth strand because that ties back directly to one of the other goals of our board is that we know we're missing um pockets of of people not just student families but larger Community families right and so reaching out to people who will have future students at RB who had future who have had students at RB um and just everything we can do to better communicate with our the community that we serve I think is incredibly important work so thank you I have another question how are we are you gonna um I don't want to say showcase because that's kind of like a one and done but is there a site on the web where this ongoing work if everything you're doing kind of dynamic and growing so that

when families move into the community and they're looking at the school they know that you have this work that's ongoing growing evolving and they can follow it be part of it tap into it we have an equity diversity Equity inclusion tab in our website right now um so Dr one of Dr freitas's responsibilities in the org chart is that he updates that with our work and Dei so we'll have to update this with our Equity action plan and then as we continue to develop strategies under these objectives we'll continue to update that okay but I think hiring education person at the boards talked about like this is one of those things like is a perfect opportunity to sell it right like we have four groups we have people that are going to be having kids

here kids currently here alumni and then people that just live in the community that don't have kids here but still are paying taxes towards the district so that's part of the larger communication initiative the board's working on with me as a superintendent and then if I would just add I think that true Dei work is showcased throughout and not just on a tab on the website so let's not get too caught up on that and let's make sure it's just present throughout where someone doesn't even have to go to the Dei tab because it's so visible right throughout everything else that's done so um I was actually going to mention something on the same lines as you can't expect to have any markers for Progress that are obvious it's going to be a long and

slow process worthwhile put that long and slow if who is the main contact that you Dr Freitas if people do have questions or bless you the comments from the board I appreciate everyone coming this evening and it was a long table set up for both you guys and Essay and this is this is a an immense body of work that you guys have started to take on so thank you very much it it it's impressive to see the the variety of people that are represented here from all different levels of the organization so thank you I guess I have one more you know as we set a board goal you know for diversity and equity and if there's something that comes out of your work that can inform what we're doing you know if that

could come back you know that recursive relationship you know if they're saying yeah we we have like we're doing hiring and we're trying to find a diverse and you're doing the video that's fantastic but there's four more strands and if it comes you know naturally out of some of the work you're doing to say here for it consider this in your work I think this is pertinent for what you're doing maybe you haven't seen this or haven't identified that just like one of our student members uh our student board members mentioned uh her parents don't speak English and everything you know and can't call the school to call her in sick you know we need to have a Spanish phone line some of the things that are so obvious that we just don't see them

and so it'd be nice if those come up that there's a mechanism to get them up to us I think we'll see that through some of the policies identified that they mentioned that we'll be they'll be bringing back to the board for review and those have absolutely policy hiring and there's more there's five strands so I would expect it to come back in five ways curriculum curriculum I would invite uh requests for experiences as well with Dr dubio and things like that when Australian leaders are at a point where you're wearing down it's good to get more people involved in the process and you will wear them and so in that process getting more experiences where people can be re-energized with the work that's going to go into it and I think that actually speaks

to kind of what you're asking as well is come back if we mean this as a goal we want to support the work that goes behind it and so part of that is keeping energy in those that have to lead conversations regularly thank you Boardman I mean that means a lot to me and I'm sure to the team here it means a lot that we have your support today comes from the team and our EAP your strands have a great night everybody thank you thank you thank you thank you [Music] anyone else wants to move up to the big table you're more than welcome to do so like it's all empty there yeah right exactly um let's give everyone a second practice think is superintendents whenever you're ready um General District update building administration's finalized

Staffing and then began interviewing for any vacant positions that we have available for next year uh teacher leader recommendations will be presented to the board of education at the first meeting in May I remember the teacher leader is a new stipend CBA for the Departments that do not have a divisional Board of Education will conduct its reorganization meeting based on the April 4th election results on Tuesday May 9th student advisor to the Board of Education Advocate application deadline is closed we have eight candidates that have applied Dr Freitas Mrs Salto and Mrs Nardi are coordinating the interviews the board members that will be participating with Dr Freitas and myself are miss gaska Mr van horse and if there's a conflict with either one of them Miss lack is our alternate uh dual enrollment um so

we have finalized some things and we're working on the logistics but we'll have approximately 14 students next year that will be taking dual credit courses at Triton during our school day and this is big news this is something that we've had as a Target and a goal to do for many years and it aligns again with the board goal of coming up with creative ways to implement things within the academic day so the building Administration is in the process of finalizing the logistics for next year Transportation scheduling Etc so Chris Dr smetana is taking care of budgeting if we do an additional bus service from our we're thinking about working through our lazy Transportation provider to help get students to Triton in the morning and back to RV so they can take their required courses

in the afternoon just do enrollment courses will account for elective credits we also have a dual credit night coming up based on some feedback from the board members and other community members we have grown a number of dual credit classes especially in our ctd programmer Career Tech Ed programs so a lot of students will be taking a dual credit class for the first time and this is a great opportunity for kids to get college credit that aren't in an AP track and so we're going to have that night in May Dr Freitas and his staff are organizing that and then I just want to take a second to recognize all of our teachers who have put a lot of time into changing up their curriculums or adjusting their curriculums to get approved by Triton or

other colleges that if it's not through Triton to get dual credit status so I want to commend them and for all their hard work and again we've worked on providing them PD time sub time professional development reimbursement for their time curricular work time outside of their normal planning periods or additional time they needed to do this so we're rewarding people for their hard work to help the district move forward and this is really growing and we're very excited about that uh superintendent advisory council's curriculum no new updates facilities advisory no new updates finance budget process will begin in May um I'll be proposing to the board president um some of my ideas for advisory Council recommendations but we'll go through all that reorganization in May Personnel advisory Council no new updates and policy advisory Council

met this past week to discuss press packet I believe it's 111 so that those are our recommendations are included a majority of these updates were focused on the new Faith law and some new requirements that start July 1st so there weren't any significant changes really from the policy Council was just making sure our verbiage and things align with the new requirements on their faithful and that's it for the superintendent's report thank you any questions for anyone I did I just wanted to thank the work that you're doing on the Dual credit and I can't articulate enough how valuable the Dual credit classes are I've had at least two I think three of my daughters all went through the statistics course um they don't have to take the AP test even though they did for credit

because it was accredited through Loyola and all of them ended up with Loyola credit they take the test as if they had taken a college class you know my youngest Ruth in Iowa they accepted it Hannah and Milwaukee in engineering school accepted all that Pam all three girls got credit it was a solid college class and to be able to do that in high school you get a lot more attention in high school than they would in college you know they're there every day they're getting homework they're talk really sets them up well and the more we get and the more opportunities we have that just makes this you know a greater opportunity and it's not only for the AP kids but it's for any any student that's thinking I might I might go to

college yeah so thank you so much and like I said three of them have you've probably had a few I'm sorry about that but yeah so okay doctor's patana good evening tonight I'll provide the Board of Education with financial information through the month of March which represents 75 percent of our fiscal year the report begins on board book page seven you'll see the total operating revenue for the month was 5 million 426 000 18 with 91 of that coming from property tax six percent coming from evidence-based funding which is our state funding and two percent coming from federal and state reimbursements the total operating expenditures for the month were two million 290 thousand six hundred and eight dollars with seventy six percent towards salary and benefits nine percent towards special education tuition and five percent

each towards operations and maintenance to Services which was primarily Food Service uh next are the monthly financial statements you'll see the summary of the fund balances shows that the district's operating funds have an overall positive balance um this money will be used to continue to pay bills until the remaining spring property tax collection arrives in April and May normally um this occurs February through April this year it's March April and May uh due to the delay from Cook County um so you'll see that reflected in the summary of revenues on the next page you'll see that the district has only received uh 69 of our budgeted revenues for the year at uh this time last year was much higher was at almost 95 and again that's due to the delay in collection of uh the

spring property tax uh the summary of expenditure shows that the district has spent 75.9 percent of the budgeted expenditures for the Year this amount is slightly higher to this time last fiscal year which is around 71 percent and then as always for the board I've included include a statement of revenues and expenditures for all of the board accounts for the month as well as the Student Activity accounts uh lastly I have one informational item for the board uh tonight uh they'll see in Greater detail next month um but Dr skinkis and I um earlier this month um met with representatives from the PACE program uh to explore their community community vehicle program so under this program The District would be eligible to receive two Vans for student uh Transportation one would have a lift that

could accommodate seven passengers and primarily that is our Focus as that would replace the old Mini Bus that is out in the lot that was donated to the district well over 10 years ago and it is definitely time to get that one replaced um and then the other van would not have a lift and it would hold uh 10 people it's a great program it's through a Federal grant that pace received and each van would require a 500 deposit and then a hundred dollars a month so you know you're voting later hopefully tonight on Mini buses you can see the cost of that in comparison to the cost of this program the maintenance of the Vans is also included in the price so it's a great opportunity for the district the drivers would need to

complete training through pace and next month as a reference the board will see two or three items related to the application that will need the board's approval we're currently having a legal counsel to review those for you and that concludes my report tonight I don't want to I I'm gonna put you on the spot if you don't know the answer if it's not uh something that you know right off the top of your head don't worry about it but does the that bus situation help I I looked at it and didn't write a question because I'm a jerk uh on page 21 the special ed Transportation budget that was at like 7 500 for the year and we're at like significantly over that is that not potentially addressed at all or is that something different

we had the minibus right now for we that Kristen mentioned in her report about that was donating so that is for our transition students during like the academic days they need like a ride to their job or a pickup from their job or we you know they come to class some classes here at the school um so that's a different line item from our specialized transportation that is for pickups and drop off on a daily routine with the yellow buses is there a reason that that is significantly outside of what was budgeted and again I'm putting you on the spot to it please don't feel like you need to answer that sure no some of it was um it's yeah some of it's miscotted and so we're in the process of doing a journal adjustment

there is a chance that it will likely come in a little over budget um but once a journal adjustment is done it'll hit much closer to budget right okay imagine within 50 000 um this is the first year uh special education Transportation has really returned back to normal in in full force um and like Dr skinka said that includes any student that's outplaced but it also includes any student that's coming to RB and that needs transportation to and from RB on a daily basis uh that's outlined in their IEP so the long story The Long answer from both of us the van does not help it's a separate okay need we have to fill and the fact that we can get it for like 100 bucks a month it does save the district money because

otherwise we may have been requesting right now that's true any more questions [Music] seeing none Dr Freitas how do you want to handle with with student reps last board member meeting here I have a lot today good okay [Laughter] um right before they graduate they have one more meeting yeah but this is their last yeah so I have two main points and then I have a list of important dates that I'd like to go through um but the first point I'd like to make was that I was a part of a student panel on April 19th um that was called what I wish I would have known about the college process and the target audience was underclassmen students and parents and it was it was pretty full and there was three there was four students

and three parents and Mr reingruber hosted it and he asked us a bunch of questions regarding supplemental essays what made us decide on our college and scholarship essays and then it was open to the parents to ask questions and I really think that's something that RB should continue to do because I feel like it was really helpful for us to give our Insight because we just went through the process and I feel like most of the parents and students kind of got a better idea of how to start the process because there was freshmen in there too and you could just tell they were a little nervous but I think after hearing what we had to say they were a little bit better prepared I heard it was a good event so it was really

fun to be able to kind of give them some advice because I thought the process was a little stressful but um I also attended the orcasus dance company show Encore on April 21st to watch the amazing dance performances choreographed by outside artists and our fellow RB students um the show was absolutely amazing and I wish all the senior dancers good luck on their next journey in college and the underclassmen good luck on their next shows and then getting started with the dates April 24th and 25th there was a senior exit survey completed during English classes this survey was meant to gather information on post-secondary plans for the class of 2023 and it took place on Naviance I took mine today and we also filled out our final transcript requests through Naviance as well and that

just goes to miss inglehart and she'll get our transcripts ready for us so we have to send them to our colleges the next date is May 9th which is college commitment ceremony taking place at 12 p.m and invitations will be sent out to all students and families who have committed to come committed to a college to play a sport and each student will receive Six Guest tickets May 10th cap and gown distribution will happen during all lunch periods and it will take place at the atrium near door a and graduation tickets can also be picked up in the atrium and then May 10th that night in the main gym at 6 PM seniors who will be honored for academic and athletic athletic Excellence will receive invitations in the mail and students may bring up to

two guests and then May 17th is local scholarship night at 6 PM in the auditorium invitations will be sent to students and families who are receiving Awards and each student will be given two tickets as well moving on May 18th is yearbook distribution happening in the field house from 305 to 4 pm the last day to purchase yearbooks is March 31st 31st or until they sell out and as of last week I think there are 42 left and then May 26 is a big day it's a mandatory graduation rehearsal at 10 A.M in the cafeteria and then after the rehearsal there is a senior picnic in the stadium or field house if there's rain lunch will be provided games and activities will take place and I believe seniors should be able to bring their yearbooks

for signings and then the main event is graduation taking place at 6 30 PM students should arrive at 5 30 p.m in the cafeteria each student will receive a Max of six tickets as requested using the ticket link four for the main gym and two for the theater and that's all I have yeah that's a lot thank you that's the busiest month right there yes thank you Dr Freitas my turn the current freshman on track rate as a 420 is approximately 90 percent um you know and our goal is to keep it that next Point here uh the five essential survey closed on March 31st student participation rate reached an all-time high of 96 percent meeting the goal of 95 percent I want to thank all of the teachers all of my administrators I mean

we were getting students in the calf you know in the library you know we're giving them all the opportunities and we're really proud that we met you know that goal according to greatschools.org an unprofit organization that shares publicly available school performance information with leading real estate company as of February 23 RB received a 10 out of 10. only 26 High School in the state of Illinois received that rating I would like to congratulate everybody um so you know for for the people that are usually looking for homes right sometimes you start on Angelo or on Redfin right or a red Max redmax.com and now you know when you look up our Bay you know we're there 10 out of 10 so that's fantastic news you know for everybody wanna be a big big shout out

to what my calculus and Zach Lomas Bridget Wilma Kelly Lindquist and Beth Augustine for their outstanding role in facilitating the PSAT and SAT exams you know it's not easy you know to test over 1200 students but they did an outstanding job really part of the team I have summer school registration runs from April 17 to May 25th for academic programming and summer athletic cash Registries runs from March 27 into maximum capacity has been reached Miss Lindquist shortly we'll go over a summary of specific offerings coffee with the principal is Wednesday April 26th at 9 A.M in room 201 tomorrow and AP testing starts on Monday May 1st and runs through Friday May 12th I want to give a big shout out to all the AP teachers who have been doing any pre-review sessions and I

know they put in the work so thank you to all the AP teachers all of the supporting teachers you know good luck to the students and the staff a few more events you know I'd like to touch on on April 25th tonight actually happening at this moment we have abandoned Orchestra spring concert and then uh tomorrow on the 26th at 7 pm in the Little Theater we have Arby's Got Talent showcase do credit info night is at 6 PM in the little theater on May 3rd and that same evening we do have a choir concert at 7 p.m jazzapalooza is on May 5th 7 P.M in the little theater on the 7th the chamber orchestra will be a guest on some we'll make a guest Ensemble parents at 4 pm at Downer Grove First United

Methodist Church May 11th the Apollo Awards begin at 7 pm in the auditorium and then on May 12th we have the RB Rock Band concert at 7 p.m at the jam lab 47th Street in Brookfield and that concludes my principal's report Dr Freda she have one here I'm sorry is the board have any questions yeah that works [Music] what item are we so we're moving in a new business textbook uh textbook yes okay give you the first readout textbook adoption and she wanted to also give you an update on uh I believe it's under informational items which is the summer camp information yeah I was gonna um I'll touch on summer school first um since Dr freitaus just mentioned it this summer marks my inaugural summer as the Director of summer school I'm very very

excited thank you very much I um I owe everything to Dr stinkus um the amount of candidates would consider were just I mean I didn't hear that it was a really tough race he had to put in she barely got it um so uh in the document that I provided for you in the memo I tried to hit on the athletic offerings because a summary for the academics is fairly succinct and easy and then for the Athletics the summary would have been like five pages so um on the memo you can see we are offering summer camps and Athletics in nearly all areas um that we offer Athletics in general um so the bullet points there just share those offerings that we have um the academic and the athletic offerings are both prominently displayed on

our website um in in one of the slideshows right on the front and it takes you to the full listing of academics as well as the full listing Athletics with contact information for each of the people that are the point people in all of those areas when you look at those Academic School offerings they are very typical the same that you have probably seen year after year as you are sitting on the board at this point in the school year we offer courses for credit recovery and we offer courses for advancement our courses for advancement are only our health and our U.S government course we offer two sessions for credit recovery where we offer students an opportunity to be face to face in a classroom with a teacher and then where we offer students an

opportunity to take any additional coursework that they need through the Apex system with our Apex coordinator I one of the things that I learned in coordinating summer school is how involved drivers ed is so big thanks to Jason Rec who even through a very complicated foot surgery was my point person for driver's education so we have opportunities for driver's education throughout the summer listed as well um and then we also have a variety of academic camps and academic workshops that we offer um which are not taken for credit but are taken for just that um enrichment um enjoyment we have banned camps that are going on for students to prepare them to be ready to march in the Fourth of July parade or March in the field show during the school year we have Camp

College which is always a favorite um where Jim Franco Wendy Cassens and Paul Emerson is jumping into the mix as well this year are helping students with those essays that are going to be coming um due uh the dreaded College admissions essay we have a really great rbtv summer workshop that is always really well attended and then my favorite I am biased since I'm connected to it is the bridge to RB program where we bring in freshman incoming freshmen for a few days of fun and getting to know each other and getting to learn the building and walk their schedules um and all those fun things that make coming to school in the fall a little less intimidating when you have that opportunity to make those connections early so that's kind of the scope or

the overview the the summary of those summer school offerings as Dr Freitas mentioned via rev track those opportunities are open for registration anybody who runs into any issues or any concerns or questions can always reach out to me um and I can get that squared away for anybody that has any issues and just as a reminder we review the fee schedule for all of these about two months ago correct and I will bring I believe if I remember correctly in my fledgling go around at this I will be bringing um hires to the Board of Education in May for those people that will be hired to teach summer school so that will be coming in May Chris and we usually do that with the one spreadsheet like chart correct it's not something that Kylie has

to come and present on her no it's in closed session yeah that's what I thought yeah I'll submit it then yeah were there any questions on this from anyone I I do have one question so anyway I always feel like we our summer school offerings uh could be more robust and it's not because you're not doing anything it's you know kids would rather do Sports Camps before he was the person before me so yeah yeah you know I get that but I'm just wondering can and you probably I'm not expecting you to know this um board members before me we've been thinking can students take a summer course maybe even photography that'll that elective that they can't fit in their schedule here at Triton and have it count for over the summer and have it

count for credit historically I've only allowed the two courses that Kylie had referenced and one of the reasons for that is you're trying to condense The Full Experience of an 18-week course or 36 week we're usually telling semesters from an 18 week course into a four-week summer school period right and so a lot of the high schools and we talked about this just the other day at a superintendent meeting a lot of the high schools will do similar to where you can't Advance you know I mean you can take courses for credit recovery or like one of the two of the state requirements that could end up having you pick between being in the band or having to get your house credits something of that nature so that's where we have allowed students that's the

only two classes we've really allowed students to take for advancement purposes in the condensed summer schedule can we offer because some of our students have conflicts I mean we're a small school some of those electives that they never get a chance to take you know and I think it's like a half credit I don't know that if it wouldn't Advance them you know out a year early but it might give them that opportunity to take that art class that photography class or that one elective that they can't seem to ever fit in their schedule and buy a third party them correct you're not saying it that's right we do that by allowing them to take health and government at RB because that the the premises with that is that they free up opportunities within their

schedule to take electives at RB that they want to take such as photography or things of that nature and they get the full semester experience so that's usually the motivation as to why kids take those two classes in the summer it also helps to keep things more uniform you get longer discussion outside of here but um I will say though not to prolong this but um I know when I was working with Chicago Public Schools our busiest season for dual credit was summer because students did have an opportunity to then enroll in some classes there's all kinds of logistical things that go along with that because I don't recall when summer semester starts at Triton so I don't know if the students are out dual enrollment so they're taking the classes again dual credit is

when they're on site at Triton College and dual enrollment is when they're here primarily here okay so there is when we teach it and then enrollment would mean they're actually on campus so then for Jordan Rome I don't know when if the schedules line up um that that was the logistical nightmare we had um the other issue might be to obviously CPS it's thousands of students I don't know if there's a student um if students want to do that like I'm trying to get my kid to do something this summer anything and he's like no I've got football camp or driver side eventually he'll have that so I I would love to send them to I I would take them with me let's go but again I don't know if there's a yeah a need

I mean the dual enrollment one you know I think that's definitely worth uh exploring I mean this being our first semester coming up this fall we're still lurking through the logistics on the 14 students um but I I don't see aligning with the board goal and what we're trying to do with career Pathways and dual credit and dual enrollment um you know a class on a college campus whether it's a junior college or a four-year College benefits to students and we could that's probably a little easier to look at that and and sometimes in lieu of our elective credits if you start to put too many things sometimes what could happen is you also you don't want to make protect the Integrity of what the curriculum is throughout our school year so we have to

but like something like the dual enrollment if the kids are taking welding already and it's easier for them to take the welding dual enrollment program in the summer and we can get more kids or criminal justice or CNN right like CNA that'd be a perfect right that is something that makes that's probably an easier Avenue to explore first yes the future Transportation issues either or you would we would have to make that a student requirement they would have to get that right because they're not coming back to RB to finish their math science English or you know their required courses so that's definitely something we can can explore that's a good suggestion I thank you both you um and our new uh principal for summer school will definitely explore that got it done right there

should I go yeah under my business textbooks um so we have a board book page Kylie or but Marianne 171 171 171 um so what I shared in the textbook report is twofold first a three-year summary of um current expenditures plus the next three years in terms of where we anticipate going um for textbook adoptions so that the board kind of has a little bit of a warning before I swoop in here and ask for a really crazy amount of money um this year in terms of the expenditures that happened for this year we were over what we projected in sort of a happy accident with child development and health occupations because we found a teacher and we were able to teach those classes for the first time in a really long time at least

since I have been here on a consistent basis so we needed to get some textbooks in the building to be able to teach those courses there was a question submitted in particular with the AP music theory um course we did have an expenditure of uh three thousand one hundred and eighty five dollars and 93 cents in for the 2020 2021 school year um since then and the reason this expense has crept up against again on us this year we've had our coven dear that was we were taking we were doing that course during our coveted year then we had a change in leadership um with our uh instructional coach for Fine Arts that was running that program leaving and what we realized was when that original purchase was made they gave us licenses for a

year and then they shut them off afterwards so the expenditure that we had for this year was getting those physical resources to come in so we have a stock of those with the licenses moving forward were good on the actual textbook portion for AP music theory and the course fees moving forward can cover those workbooks that will be consumables now that we have some consistency in that program and we kind of have hit a stride with that every other year running um experience when you look at the courses for uh or the requests for next year we have one request for the traditional textbook and that's for our AP US History Class um we had a question submitted about how the AP US History team kind of determines what they wanted if you look at

the copyright on that request for that book it's a 2020 uh copyright history can be a history textbook can be obsolete with just kind of one action that take takes place in society when I talked to the instructional coach for the social studies Department what really impressed the apus teachers about the book that we are requesting which I've given to Marianne if anybody wants to take a look at that for a review copy what are the skills in particular that are the focus for the AP exam it's a book that is not just focused on United States history it's very geared toward the AP exam and the skills that are required for that and so what the apus teachers felt was that the skill part of it was so good that they could continue to

supplement with things out of Newsela or Khan Academy to really bridge the gap with any kind of new happenings because with the redesign of the APUSH test and the last handful of years a lot of people think that that's one of the more challenging tests because of the amount of content the work with the intense DBQ skill development and so really what they wanted was a book that could support that skill development so then are those online licenses or are those so we have hard copies and we have the online licenses so we have the full access um that's why it's a little more expensive and that's the trick of this whole um game that companies play with the textbook licenses is that you're able to get the hard copies and you're able to get

everything and then in a certain number of years they want you to you know be able to re-up that commitment um so are these classroom sets yes so we're not doing we don't do individual Technologies and then they use their Chromebooks to be able to access on their home yes okay um the read 180 Universal is kind of an interesting piece because we split and some of that comes from our instructional technology budget because there's a platform that students use with their Chromebooks and then some of it comes with the actual print materials although a good portion of those print materials are then recovered through student fees for the students that are signing up for that class there's always a guessing game when you when you're working through that because some students test out reading

before the start of the school year after we've purchased the books so in some cases that can fluctuate because we're able to maybe save those materials if a student tests out and then recycle them for um the next year in the year one of uh the plan I also highlight our last year of the four-year payment on our Discovery education for physics and honors physics so that drops off um this year one of the things that was a question also when we look at your two of our plan was about our Carnegie curriculum in mathematics um I told Dr skincus I think yesterday not or maybe it was today not to get too nervous I'm not pulling the rug out from under whom curriculum wise but if we're going to spend a hundred thousand dollars

of the district's money we're going to talk about that before so that's one of the things Lindsay and I are talking about I am re-engaging the theater schools um just got confirmation from District 96 today they are still using Carnegie their commitment with Carnegie is up when ours is up so they are looking into that whole process their principle isn't certain she can't say for certain that's the direction they're going but they are very if she said if she had to guess today that's that's the direction that they're going as well I believe that District 94 still uses Carnegie just waiting for some confirmation just so I know for sure and I've done my due diligence there but that's something big that's coming up as well as the um kind of renewal of the licenses

for both our new Spanish textbook series as well as Discovery Education licenses for chemistry and for honors chemistry District 95 has always used a different math 496 adapted currency but I don't know off the time I had what 95s is right what I'm asking you though is is it worthwhile if you're going to do the sex position with our new math division on Miss Mino is it worthwhile putting a small committee together from American 96 so then there's true vertical articulation yeah absolutely I think that's one of the things that we you know in talking with Dr Freitas that's one of his high priorities is uh bringing back articulation we heard that a lot as a common theme in our teacher leader interviews um that teachers and departments are hungry for that articulation and that

kind of cohesion and those conversations and I think that that's going to be even more possible under the new leadership structure which I think is another one of the most exciting things about that structure is the ability to kind of have those tentacles in more places absolutely yeah and I think especially with the feeder School discussion that's so important as people start their their career at RB to understand there's been some some amount of continuity or at least discussions towards continuity yes absolutely okay 25-year commitment to possibly two out of our three feeders that were and that's typically what the Carnegie commitment is is right it would be nice to have two or three everybody on the same page starting at the same time reevaluating at the same time right yep do the theater schools

recognize the value of the Carnegie yeah yes Riverside I was on the 94 board when we switched to Carnegie and we switched because that's what RB was on got it that's great Insight thank you and does uh um Hauser recognize do they feel like their students have benefited being with that curriculum because their students have placed well when they come to high school because it's you know the continuity is I don't know if I can speak on their behalf I don't know if that's anything out of turn to speak on their behalf so I I don't I I imagine that the answer is yes just simply for the reason that it was part of their adoption and that they're considering um moving forward in that way as well and I don't think that there's I

don't think that um not adopting Carnegie represents any sort of you know bad faith in the in the other District I think we all are committed to recognizing what the skills are that we need and what skills will make our students most successful when they come to RB and whether or not they adopt our our same curriculum or not our our goal will always still be to communicate what those skills are to make sure that students from all three of our schools are kind of stepping in ready to go and on that kind of Level Playing Field Kaylee I believe those answered all the questions yeah those are the yes yes any more questions from the board s and you're looking and this is a first read correct yes it will not the board shoot

is it okay if the board puts us on a consent on May 9th oh yeah certainly nothing would there's nothing timeline sensitive yeah no because uh July 1st is the first time we engage with the Publishers anyway and they're very good with turnaround time so that's that's good thank you so I want to make sure we don't come out of order here student advisors 23 24 and then District goal update does that sound right yeah we really took a lot of things out of order and it just has a little bit of confusion here I think we're on um Roman numeral eight sure I just I mean basically now the board has received reports I mean I think we've done a really good job as an Administration and working with the board but each of

the individual administrators and the teams uh to address the different board goals and whether it was diversity and Equity we had the presentation with the communication survey you know so our work for 23 is trying to 23 24's at education person we can hear tonight about the equity action plan in the first meeting of March who saw the report from [Music] um Miss Augustine and Kai Miss Lindquist regarding our interventions with Panorama and the things we're doing with the academic website that we talked about and Dr smetana updates you monthly on the financials and where we're fitting in and all these things that we've talked about you notice I tried to include that in my superintendent report each month but like the finance one is like hey look at all the great work we're doing

we're doing enrollment well that's Dr smetana working to reorganize the budget to align with like what the district goal was right or next year purchasing an additional bus from Grand Prairie so to help with dual enrollment so those are all things but I commend the board for their work and I hope you see through the reports that have occurred throughout this year like we've we've made really good progress on these goals and uh one need to start thinking about as I say this to you out loud like what's the next step right so now we got to start writing a smart goal with each of these administrators to start identifying what the goal is for 20 23 24 school year which won't be as difficult as right miss markle's last time we'll probably just update

this chart or bring it to you as a draft to review throughout the summer so that way as we get into that to some and I think a lot of them are already springboarding into their next activities under the general board goal but we'll update these accordingly okay yeah I mean I think the the format that we ultimately settled on is cumbersome right it's a lot a lot of little words on a small piece of paper but I can't think of any better way to lay it out I think it's a helpful one-pager to go back to so but I think we're open to suggestions if there's a different ways to convey the action steps for next school year Etc so something to think about anything else on goals I think that is we're in

a good place okay now we move on to additional discussion items are there any additional discussion items from members of the board of ed for this evening seeing none consent agenda we've got a couple of items okay the Board of Education Township High School District 208 Cook County Illinois takes the following action on the listed consent agenda items approves the Consolidated District plan multi-function school and activity bus minibus lease uh three or five year early to own do we need to decide uh the recommendation was updated uh over three mini buses a girl cross country overnight team building trip as presented in the April 25th 2023 board agenda so can you just specify that it's the three year I mean that is the recommendation from the administration that's what we talked about the last week

thank you let me just restate that quickly multi-function school and activity minibus lease three years three year yeah second there's um in reading the Consolidated I mean I'm ready to vote on it but after we've proposed that we can have a little discussion or something I did want to I asked Kristen on one of the things on the Consolidated uh District plan and I think again it's another gem that's been happening in the school that um may not be as prominently known or known in the public [Music] interviewing some parents from other districts they who are bilingual or actually only spoke Spanish they had said to me that they got a language school and training on technology through Title One funds so I asked Dr Smith Dana and when I was reading through that Consolidated

District plan do we have something similar you know because if you saw the title three it was for immigrant students in title one and uh I'll let you speak but I thought that was another gem that I don't know that everyone knows that you had been doing and that is out there for our families yes we've been doing it for a while um we have a parent series for our bilingual parents that our el director coordinates our el director is Armando Venegas who is here earlier tonight so definitely want to thank him for all of his hard work in coordinating that program and then typically either a staff member such as himself or this year Miguel Garcia who's a paraprofessional runs the the nightly sessions for our parents so that is something that we have

been doing and we have been doing for quite some time at RV as well and that's part of the grant money that we earn we use title three uh so we don't use title one we used three funds for that um program yes so it's another valuable reason and it does speak to our diversity goal and it's another really valuable reason why these grants are meaningful for our community you know it addresses the whole family this way thank you for that so we have a motion and a second I think we need a roll call yes yes yes yes yes yes we don't have any matters for Life Safety Capital Improvements or sustainability but we do have a press plus policy issue 111. as mentioned in the superintendent report uh the only recommendations for changes

occurred primarily with the where it says superintendent and we headed to work as they need a majority of these items were related to the requirements going into place on their Fates law starting July 1st there was one board policy I believe it's uh 210 where we updated the role of the board secretary because we no longer use the board secretary is no longer served as the election official so we just changed that language to defer them to the county clerk's office but other than that there were no significant changes recommended and I did not receive any of questions on our recommendations can can you um share what we did notice when we were going through that policy there was a lot of emphasis put on the updates to fit the fates uh law there now

there's a new procedure doing the criminal uh background check or this what was it the sexual predator background check um really becoming more thorough you know the school anybody who works here any coaches really try to tighten up those gaps to keep our students yeah I wouldn't I wouldn't I mean um it's received it's um it's an extra effort to continue to close the gaps however the it's one of one of the 52 or 56 unfunded mandates that have come down over the last year um to where it's a large like Clearinghouse they basically want effective July 1st any employee you hire has to fill out a list of every school or any place that has uh miners you know adolescents so that could be like a date or if you were a day camp

instructor camp counselor or anything not only to mention schools and then it's the responsibility of the employer to contact all those previous employers to make sure there were no other so there's a lot of checklist so that's a lot of work that falls to each individual District so we're as superintendents we're trying to propose to the state board and to our Regional Offices to create like a Clearinghouse whenever you work in a specific region of Education you have to register your certificate and your credentials so it would be helpful like if you're working in West cook you have to register your certificate in West cook it'd be easier when you go to the register your certificate in West cook to do one or two additional steps where you submit this one-time data you know your

credentials of all your previous place of employment and there's a check like a Clearinghouse for each regional office so that's what the superintendent uh advocacy group that I'm on as IESA that I sit on the state board with is that we're trying to advocate for us trying to come up with a system to help you know as these new mandates come down they don't provide sometimes additional funding or resources so a school like RB we don't have a lot of turnovers so that's something we can manage right now through our HR office but you know some of our colleagues or neighboring districts with multiple buildings or multiple schools that's a lot to processes different principles are hiring different candidates paraprofessionals Etc so but that that's the primary thing that's being added to all these policies

very well intentioned but with some operational challenges correct gotcha gotcha I didn't have any questions I don't think anyone had any questions on the Press plus policy so can we move ahead with a or this is a first read tonight okay the Board of Education Township High School District 208 Cook County Illinois approves press plus policy issue 111 as presented in the April 25 2023 boardage on the packet second gonna have a roll call please yes the flag yes yes we already had the textbook adoptions first read and now we have a first read on the ATI contract Dr Smith uh this past year the district has partnered with ATI for a head athletic trainer the assistant athletic trainer continues to be filled internally uh via extracurricular stipend the administration is interested in continuing this

Arrangement and is looking to extend the contract with ATI for another two years the cost has significantly increased from this year current cost is fifty thousand dollars due to the significant shortage and and School High School athletic trainers which obviously has led to an increase in demand currently there are about a third of athletic trainers compared to what there used to be and that goes back to to become a High School athletic trainer it's now a requirement that you have a master's degree and a lot of colleges have dropped that program instead of offering a master's degree and then obviously it also requires more schooling as well um and then also the other reason for the increased cost is correcting the unsustainable cost model in the industry so cost ATI over ninety thousand dollars uh

to have this athletic trainer especially now with you know uh CPI and cost going up um and they used to be able to offset that cost um significantly and take a loss by placing them in schools because they would have some of the business come back to them and they also saw it as a partnership with the community but unfortunately um they're unable to continue to sustain that model and so that is those are the two reasons uh for the cost increase um obviously that was a bit of a sticker shock so I tried to work with them uh to lock in a second uh year rate so that we weren't um you know having a significant cost increase next year as well um so you'll see the cost for the two years uh first

year next year would be eighty thousand dollars and the second year I was able to lock in a cost of 82 400. um The District's legal council is currently reviewing the contract and we're negotiating the terms with uh ATI there were a few questions submitted about this tonight uh the first question was if the parties were interested in an agreement longer than two years at this time they are not and I also don't think it's in the district's best interest we need to kind of let the economy and the market for trainers uh stabilize it's currently in flux ATI also doesn't think that it's either in their best interest or ours because they do think that the market for athletic trainers will hopefully in two years will stabilize and hopefully you'll have a new normal

that's a little lower um they're hoping that more people complete the master's program at that time so that there's a bigger supply of athletic trainers and then also because we haven't even completed a full year with them um our trainer started uh pretty much at the end of The Fall season they don't know what our relationship with them is like in that sense of you know do our athletes go use ATI and are are they having referrals that help offset the cost and if so they can then translate those costs back to the district and so since we haven't even completed three full seasons it's really hard for them to say so they were a Mix-Ups they were a little hesitant to lock in longer than two years the second question was about Provisions uh

in the contract that exists for refusing 18 TI selection of personnel so that currently exists in our existing contract and the way ATI works is every year they update their template and they send it out to you and they forget about all the changes that you negotiated the previous year because I feel like I've asked that question before so that wasn't so you kind of have to start over so from the initial conversations I don't believe problem I believe it's already been put back in but it's just a process of having to start start that whole process over so we do have it in our existing contract and I believe we'll have that moving forward I've already talked to ATI we plan on having the same trainer back she's done a great job for us

and she's happy here as well full ATI comply with these new with the new regulations Faith they have to but it's also only for new employees face law uh that all of that that's in the Press plus is only when you hire a new employee it's not for existing employees but yes contractors uh third-party contractors have to comply with face law as well but if we get a new trainer then they would have that we would have to have that additional background yes ATI would be responsible for doing that not the district okay uh and then the last question was about requesting continuity of services so it wouldn't be a different person every day of the week that's not ATI structure so I could only foresee that if there was like an emergency or an

FMLA ATI Works where they have a relationship with you they collaborate with you to hire a trainer specifically for your district and then they place them at your District six days a week so I would only see something like that happening uh you know there was a staffing issue or something okay no that's helpful information that trainer knows your athletes because otherwise they'd go nuts trying to learn the athletes every day and this is this is just a first read tonight at the next meeting hopefully we'll have the contract resolved in terms of the terms okay so thank you very much um we can submit questions if anything else comes up and you'll have an updated contract then in the next Fortnight perfect seeing no visitor statements here none um we had no additional discussion
