taxpaying citizen in this District I attended last month's board meeting only to be subject to bickering over the minutes of a closed session school board meeting that took place in January 2014 for about 20 minutes really we have so many other upto-date issues that are at hand that we continue to waste time over these types of shenanigans I would like to thank that we have our entrance of our school our children's interest in hand and represent our children to be remaining focused on their education u46 represents the second largest school district in the state of Illinois and can't seem to agree to disagree without making complete mockery of the school system I am embarrassed on how we have been conducting meetings and would like to see a change in how we represent this district there
are issues with facilities and some of our schools that we should be addressing not why can I see some two-year-old minutes from a meeting that has nothing to do with improving my child's or any child's education to date let's get it together you 46 thank you thank you and next speaker is Missy Ross sorry I can't see hi my name is Missy Ross and I'm teacher in this District at the June 20th board meeting Janette Ward weighed a sad and concerning comment from a prepared statement statement regarding the study sync Resources with regards to an article about a first grade girl who was born a biological boy Miss Ward said that of the parents encouraging the child to use the bathroom in which she identified with it was an explicit denial of reality and child
abuse in my house we consider it child abuse to not teach our children that humanity is diverse and complex and there are groups of our society who have for too long not been supported and respected this past spring I was elected to serve as a delegate to the Nea convention in Washington DC last month by the teachers in the school district while I am well aware that there is nothing I can say tonight that will change anyone's views in this room I just wanted to share some information and a bit of the pride I feel from being part of such an inclusive and Progressive organization I certainly cannot read all of the numerous amendments or business items addressing issues I care deeply about in three minutes like institutional racism Suicide Prevention the impact of trauma
climate change civil rights and the lgbtq community that were debated voted on and adopted I figured I would use the rest of my time to share Snippets of what I could I am so proud of what the Nea stands for and I'm so sad that my employer doesn't always stand for the same the Nea will publicize the work of Nea members educating students and communities on issues of human caused climate change the Nea believes that the fabric of our society is strengthened when the contributions of all of its diverse members are encouraged and embraced the association recognizes the exist of right white privilege and white supremacy and that institutional and public policies and practices discriminate against some segments of the population the Nea will provide all state and local affiliates with existing model language developed
jointly by the gay lesbian and straight education Network and the national Center for transgender Equity focused on policy for districts on transgender and gender non-conforming students that our school boards can adopt the Nea will encourage all state and local affiliates to use valid and existing resources to provide trans gender and gender non-conforming awareness training for faculty staff and administrators the Nea calls on the US Department of Education to enforce title 99's prohibition against discrimination as it pertains to North Carolina or any other state that takes similar steps to prohibit restroom access based on gender identity unless and until those States commit to ensuring that all students including transgender students have access to restrooms in accordance with there thanks for listening thank you go Cubs our next speaker is Carl King hello ladies and gentlemen of
the board I don't have a question uh just a really brief comment that I'd like to give and that is my name is Carl King again and I am the newly installed chair of the black history family festival and just just wanted to make everyone aware February the 4th first Saturday of the uh February um we're going to have a another black history family festival gilboard and Library I know I I see some familiar faces some uh unfamiliar I'd love to see everybody there if you can make it at all it's going to be a great time learning about um just learning about culture Heritage and encouraging education and learning so um let me try this in Spanish I wrote it down we'll see if we get it right uh you can reach me carl.
e.k gmail.com if you have any questions or you have someone that you'd like to recommend a young person or a a teacher because we're going to be honoring teachers of u46 as well as other Educators in the Elgen area all right that's it thanks thank you what what time is it on February uh 4th one o'clock I only said that in Spanish I'm sorry 1 P.M okay there that was the last public comment card so the next item is other business um board member and super or CEO is there any other business I just want to say that I participated in the summer school graduation um almost two weeks ago and it was a a wonderful opportunity to see those kids who uh either graduated early or graduated you know half short semester after their
usual graduation it was just you know it's a great day just like the big graduation day this smaller one is is just as special for these kids so it was nice to participate and thanks to the administration and the schools because without them we wouldn't be able to have this celebration for the students that's right um Tony and I will be greeting a whole lot of new teachers Wednesday and I think it will be very exciting [Music] I'm sure they're very excited and maybe a little nervous what they will not be nervous after we have an opportunity to speak with yeah after we speak them how many new teachers I would have to M midell how many new teachers do we have currently at in now this is not incorporate teachers still being hired 178
right now looking at probably 220 so 178 right now and Clos to 220 by the time we're back in school I know there are a lot of great uh community events tomorrow night for National Night Out but I also wanted to invite everyone here to the uh Bartlett program we have a great uh downtown community event it's 5 to9 I think we're going to be blowing whistles to have the Guinness World Book of Records uh for most whistles so that should be really exciting so hope you can make it okay any other updates I just had a comment I wanted to uh thank the commenters and also um like you and I discussed Donna encourage people um that I for one don't being M don't mind being addressed by name um I think as an
elected official your constituents ought to be able to address You by name so I know previously our com cards used to say no personal attacks um but to me that doesn't mean you can't use my name in talking to me as your elected School Board member so um I wanted to open that up for comments from the rest of my fellow board members um because I I think the constituency again should be able to address Us by name yeah I think we all agree I It is Well it's as long as it's done constructively I think that you know we should be talking about what each one of us represents I think that's good way to deliberate the facts to deliberate what opinions even but I think it's important to have everyone involved as opposed
to a one-sided conversation for us talking to you all so it's a good thing any other comments Eric all right so the last board meeting I mentioned how I would be in a parade at the Streamwood summer celebration and that was last Saturday in the parade we were in vest we were kind of giving a a taste of what September would be like for kianis as they have their kianis peanut day so we had two vehicles we had a ton of uh kids and volunteers uh throw peanuts at people not literally but you know hopefully none of them had peanut allergies but we all gave peanuts out and it was really fun I really enjoyed it we ran out of that's really quick so I was upset about that but it was really nice to
to get out there and see the community and um give a taste of September so I will hopefully be um participating in the peanut days that's when uh students typically students stand in front of um supermarkets and collect change uh in exchange for peanuts so it's kind of giv back to the community that way and um after that at the summer celebration Saturday was also the talent show I participated in that well not literally I don't have any talent but I did help collecting the ballot so I you know I could say that I was pretty quick at that that's any Talent so I did that and it was really uh good talent I'm impressed by how uh talented kids can be especially being a lot older than them it really makes you realize how
boring you are no so uh besides that U peanut guy was there at the parade too it was really cool and I had a chance to meet some of the kianis stream kianis club uh board members they were extremely kind to me and I really enjoyed uh having the chance to work with them so besides that tomorrow as Mr Costello mentioned about National nights out I will be at the Isaac Walton Center um participating while volunteering they said I might be working with snow cones so that sounds fun so I'll be giving out snow cones at the Isaac W Center for their hanb townships watch National Night Out so that's all I have coming up thank you okay any other comments so I wanted to uh say that I can appreciate the the comments uh
about bickering but for me it's not about bickering it's about principles and there are principles worth standing up for and so I'd like to reiterate that access to closed session recordings has always been about transparency and that's why I asked that the January 25th 2014 14 Clos session meeting be made public during our last meeting I also ask that a motion to that effect be placed on the agenda tonight but my request was denied even though it was made in writing more than five days prior to tonight and I had asked for it at last meeting in accordance with board policy 2190 I now asking that my requested motion be added to the August 15th Board of Education meeting agenda if I wanted to punish anyone my first action wouldn't be asking to make this
tape public I would have taken legal action as I stated last meeting I don't wish to get anyone in legal trouble I don't wish to waste any more of the Court's time on this I want this I want to solve this as a board I wish to make this board as fully transparent as possible and if there is an open meetings act violation if making this recording public would remedy that I was told at the last meeting that I have plenty of recourse and that I should use it this is the recourse I am attempting first I see no legal reasons why that tape still needs to be secret if there is any legal reason then I'd like to hear it previously prior to my knowledge the board has merely voted for the destruction of
previous closed session tapes and asserted that confidentiality is still needed I have not heard of any discussions about why confidentiality is needed it is simply stated that it is so I would like to see that change board policy 2201 is explicit that closed session recordings are meant to be made public at least eventually it states at least every six months the board will review the minutes and recordings of all closed sessions not previously previously released and will decide which if any no longer require confidentiality and should be made available for a public inspection there are legal reasons why some closed session recordings or meetings may need confidentiality or some things may need to be redacted but those reasons need to be clearly defined in our policy all other discussions in closed session that are not
legally required to remain confidential should eventually be released to the public at the last meeting I directly quoted a board member from the 2014 closed session meeting the public certainly deserves better than to be slandered during closed session meetings they pay the bills and cannot opt out if they own property in this District they shouldn't be demeaned behind closed doors for too long one member of this board has been allowed to resort to personal attacks instead of discussing differences of opinion with counterpoints the board member resorts to name calling and making false accusations I choose to compete on the battleground of ideas it is never about a person and always about ideas so along with asking the board to make the January 25th 2014 tape public I will ask those who attended the D the
June 25th meeting to clear up one of those false accusations I was accused on that board member's public Facebook page of lying when I said that a member of the public was discussed as being a part of a group who is the quote 21st century brand of the akk I really I really I have the floor I'd like to finish I'm almost finished I regret driving home last meeting I regretted not stopping that conversation to begin with and the reason is whether it be the January 25th meeting or any other meeting the January 25th meeting 2014 it was an evaluation that was legally held in closed session with an iasb representative there the contents of this meeting should still be held confidential which we reiterated at the beginning of listening to the tapes um I
believe that I nor anyone should be discussing this or any other closed session meeting issues in a public setting and I am really uncomfortable with having this discussion here and maybe the recourse is filing something or if we talk about it or whatever but honestly I really believe I should have cut that off because I do I do believe that we have a responsibility until we as a board decide that something becomes public not one of us has we have the responsibility of keeping that confid whether we like it or not and I'm troubled by it and I guess can I get agreement to put that on the board agenda for next meeting we can talk about it I mean that was I had told Janette that I didn't put it on the agenda this
time because I went back and watched the tapes and we really had no discussion and our board agreements do say you know a consensus of the board to put it on the agenda for a vote so that's why I asked her can we talk about it this meeting and then it could be on the next agenda the board so chooses so can I get some discussion on that on putting it on the next agenda I think it should be on the agenda I think that uh it's in our policy that we have to consider that as a matter before we discard any tapes so I think we have to look at it as a board not as an individual but as a board I I too agree that we should put it on the board
uh agenda for the next meeting um but more importantly I think we should reevaluate Janette quoted a board policy um we should re-evaluate what our policy is for how things go on the agenda um quite frankly I can see how Janette thought that she followed board policy and that it should go on this agenda so I think that's something actually policy it's part of our agreements that we had agreed to I don't think it's actually in the policy I was just going off what I heard from Janette when and I just want to clarify for you I'm sorry but I think it's more the board agreements I don't know if it's written it is five days in writing is written in the policy the five days in writing so it is in the policy yes
but the discussion was in the board agreements so it's two so we need to look at our board agreements in the policy right and you know what we have to look at these policies anyway because the law has changed so I mean we talked about that last time that we have to I asked Miguel we're gonna have to once we get some clarity on this we're going to have to go to committee and change the entire policy so right correct and in response to that I know Mr Rodriguez reached out to the committee members and we have it scheduled I believe for August 29th if my memory service correct Mr correct I believe so 29th correct Yes No it should be fit in go out it should it should have gone out and I'll make
sure it goes out tomorrow if it hasn't gone out okay yeah thank you is there any other discussion about it being on the agenda can you just clarify what are we putting on the agenda the Janette would like us to vote on whether we will would release the closed session recording for the January 2014 meeting release it to the public and two things the full meeting or the the board self- evaluation so first vote on the full meeting then a vote on the only in case there's some confusion or concern about the portion then I'd like it put on the agenda also to vote on only the board self eval evaluation portion so I mean you're looking for discussion on whether that should go on there or not on the agenda so you know Janette
keeps throwing around a certain board member when everybody knows she's talking about Tracy O'Neal Ellis so let's just you know once again um um when you tell a lie that makes you a liar so well can we stop because she accused me of something and I'm addressing that that's what I'm talking about I did call Janette a liar if and I'm going to reiterate that if you you listen to the tape if you think and you seem to feel strongly that there's a open meetings act violation time is ticking Janette you got till August 25th file something come after me and that part is all part of what happens and I don't so that's the remedy that's the remedy we're not I'm not for I'm not no that is appropriate discussion because she brought it
up I am not I would not have brought it up had she not brought it up she brought it up and I'm going to say again if you have a problem file I know and I made I made the comment and I don't want this to be the discussion you didn't want to be the discussion was her what she did was violate violate and say things that were allegedly said the same thing well file something that's the REM yes and can we talk about putting it on the agenda that that's the only thing okay I disagree with putting it on the agenda but it I mean I F that's the remedy I I'm not a fan of wasting more time on this discussion um but if putting it on the agenda means we get it
on the agenda we take a vote and then we're done with it then put it on the agenda I don't I don't really care at this point I want it to go away I would Echo that okay so I will that's fine but wait a second we're going to put it on the agenda I don't care but really I would love for the public access counselor to hear it but we're going to put it on the agenda we're going to vote on it on whether it should be made public or not um and then what because well I mean and that's that's why I wish I wish we could is that is that gonna be is that gonna make it be over no it's not so we still I still say that it's not going
to be over so until somebody files something it's it's not over and that we get a definitive answer as to whether Tracy O'Neal Ellis at on the January what was the date 25th 2014 meeting violated the open meetings act all of these you know scarless allegations and you want to talk about denigrating people's character we can't we can't either we're gonna Vote or we're not gonna vote vote but we can't keep talking about well it seems to me that we do keep talking about it I know but I'm not I said tonight let's let's move on from this either we're going a vote or we're not I don't want to talk about I don't well I misunderstood you I thought your point was to not talk about contents of a closed session board meeting exactly
but that's not what I'm talking about I'm not talking about the contents I unlike Mrs Ward haven't divulged anything that was said in a closed session board meeting I'm not talking about that but we're still talking about the issue itself either we vote on it or we don't V fine you know what but do you really trust that that's going to be the end of it so that's okay that's all I needed to hear as long as we know that that won't be your time is ticking it's running out put it on the agenda let's vote on it is there any other discussion okay I will put it on the agenda we will vote on it and then we will move on from there okay are there any other updates okay I wanted I wanted
to say one little thing it was on a lighter note just to Eric over here that organizing is a talent oh yes don't ever forget that and I have lots of parade experience so when it comes to passing out peanuts and stuff it's all about pacing yourself that was it but have you done snow cones no not done and being a student leader is a talent also okay Boer requests um on the agenda this evening attach for public content and will also be available on the website tomorrow our five Freedom of Information Act requests that the district responded to okay are there any questions all right next item on the agenda is the consent agenda on the consent agenda we have minutes of the board meeting June 20th 2016 Personnel report and workers compensation cases
occupancy permits for eight locations a resolution for the display in public hearing on School District 246 budget for the 2016 2017 School Year resolution declaring the need to continued usage of temporary classrooms proposal for secondary education hero software contract renewal secondary education sat Suite of Assessments contract renewal teaching and learning for coat contract renewal specialized student services Audiology services and equipment a contract renewal for specialized student services with East bed.com contract renewal with specialized student services hearing and vision supervision contract renewal for specialized student servic news to you contract renewal specialized student services occu occupational therapy services and finally a contract renewal for specialized student services for speech language therapists okay are there any items that any board member would like remove from the consent agenda hearing none could I have a motion to approve
the consent agenda of August 1st 2016 so moved second any discussion roll call please uh Mr Costello yes uh Miss son Alis yes Mr Holt yes Miss skur yes Miss Nolan yes Mrs Ward yes uh Madame President yes 7 Z approve okay discussion action itemized bills August 1st uh before the board are the itemized bills uh for the between the last board meeting and this board meeting uh we are requesting board approval in the amount of 7,900 $ 3,122 59 if you have any questions uh Mr bernich director of bu uh director of financial services is here to assist okay could I have a motion to approve the itemized bills August 1st 2016 in the amount of 7,931 th001 12259 so moved second any discussion roll call please miss O'Neal Ellis Mr Holt yes Miss
Kerr yes Miss Nolan yes Mrs Ward yes Mr Castello yes Madam president yes 7 Z approved okay Mr Sanders governmental agreement our next is an intergovernmental agreement between School District 246 and Geneva cd304 um I this is an issue where I emailed the board uh a couple of times in the last few weeks just to let you know this was coming directly to discuss discuss action pursuant to ihsa rules if we want this to proceed forward for a co-op swimming agreement between u46 and Geneva High School uh we need to get it sent to them this evening for uh their final approval here to present is Dr Terry loer assistant superintendent can I have a motion to approve the intergovernmental agreement between school district u46 and Geneva CU sd34 so moved second any discussion so
there seems to be no downside to this in fact we get to share coaches salaries with another District so both districts benefit correct that is correct and I'm curious and maybe it's somewhere in the right up but I didn't see it why is it that Geneva doesn't have they only have three or four students and so it's not enough to have their own team ah okay and they're also going to use South Alan facilities which are very very nice okay so is the is the staff then the cost for the staff prated between the two of us no so what will happen is I'll actually use the coaches from uh South algen High School and uh they will pay our athletic fees okay so is it 5050 for the coach's salaries then or do you
know what is it pro-rated because they only have four participants so they pay less a smaller portion of no they will pay the full athletic fee so if it's um $250 to uh participate in a sport Geneva students will each pay the $250 we're not sharing coaches so we will pay for our coach and if Geneva is also going to send a coach Geneva will pay for their their coach to assist ours our coach will be the head coach okay because it maybe I'm confused by item F which says school district U u46 and Geneva 304 will e be equally responsible for all for coaching salaries all equipment expenses officials expenses so I read that to mean we were sharing the coaches 50/50 but maybe I misunderstand that so the way I read that is
that we will pay for our coach and Geneva will pay for their coach their coach will come and work with our coach so I hope they have the same understanding that oh I'm sure they do or they yeah okay the athletic directors have been speaking about this for a while okay it sounds like a good idea thank you any other questions okay roll call please Mr Holt yes Miss Kerr yes Miss Nolan yes Mrs Ward yes Mr Costello yes Miss O'Neal Alis yes Madam president yes 70 approved okay next item is C update and I was notified that they weren't going to be here tonight so I told them to have a nice vacation next item on the agenda is secondary schools financial report Mr Berard is here to provide the board a quick overview
of our secondary schools financial reports for the fourth quarter fourth quarter yes uh tonight we have the secondary school Financial reports for the fourth quarter which is uh April 1st to June 30th uh 20 16 uh the fund balances for each School typically decrease during this quarter due to the funds raised earlier in the year uh being spent down before the end of the school year and then also instructional fees collected to the schools uh being remitted to the district the total balance of all the high school and middle school accounts is uh 3,263 2995 and for the quarter the balance has decreased by 363,000 $388 uh and if you have any questions I could answer them at this time are R questions okay thank you very good next item is resolution adopting Norther Cane
County Regional Vocational system yep the next is a resolution adopting Northern K County Regional Vocational systems budget for 2016 2017 the topic of our earlier public hearing Mr Bish yes we previous ly had presented the budget uh Administration recommends that the Board of Education adopt the resolution uh at the August 15th board meeting are there any questions thanks under work session our next are bids and proposals the first one being a proposal for plan operations boom lit purchase um Coming forward to the microphone Mr Ricky Sparks director of business services and Chris Allen director of plan operations Mr Sparks uh good evening our first proposal is for plan operations a boom lift equipment purchase Administration recommends the Board of Education approved a proposal in the amount of $7,499 as submitted by national Lift Truck this
expensive charge to the operations and maintenance fund this cost is included in the budget for the 201617 school year are there any questions okay our next is a resolution um for contract roval for curriculum instruction for Eureka Math professional development uh coming forward to present with Mr Sparks is Miss Trish Ro director of curriculum and instruction Mr Sparks our next proposal is for curriculum and instruction great M Eureka Math the ministration recommends the Board of Education approve a one-year contract renewal in the amount of 35,500 $ as submitted by great mindes Inc this expense should be charged to the title one and title two funds this cost and included in the 201617 school year are there any questions um I noticed on your middle school you you just have um professional development for certain modules
did the teachers suggest these modules or how are they chosen so our middle schools are beginning implementation they are a few years behind our elementary schools and these are the suggested model modules to prepare teachers to begin implementation of the program okay any other questions a comment and a question so I have uh I voted for Eureka Math last year and I have some big concerns about it I have two daughters who have experienced it they're both pretty bright in math and um to me Eureka Math looks like English as Math instead of math and it looks like teaching how to get to Geneva by way of China and my daughters find it frustrating and I personally don't like the curriculum but in response to that it was told that part of this is for
the teachers to learn how to give differentiated instruction so might this allow teachers who are both ends of the spectrum have students who don't fall into R math very well can it teach those teachers how to help the more gifted students and maybe the the students who are challenged who or who don't like English is math definitely I think um you'll notice in our response part of um uh there was some concern about you know teachers still struggling let's say with youra and and I would say that there's a Continuum of learning for teachers as they Implement a very new resource that was different than the the other resource think about learning anything new it takes time and as you implement the resource you identify new needs so just like in other uh instances as
if we want this to go well we have to continue to develop teachers in the areas that they see need one of which is differentiation there is differentiation actually built into the resource and the problem set and in other sections but I think teachers were wrapping their brain around how to implement this very new resource and now this is the next step for many of them which is how do I differentiate for students who are at grade level well above grade level and below grade level and again that takes time so supposing um students fall they still fall outside what Eureka can provide are the teachers empowered to go outside of Eureka and provide differentiated instruction that way so I would say this that um the resource and I was actually just sitting in a
seventh grade because that's the newest grade that to roll in I was actually sitting in some of that PD uh because I was myself a middle school mathematics teacher and sometimes secondary teachers myself included change is hard for us um and and what was encouraging was um they talked about the lattice method method which was an old method in in Everyday Math and the understanding that they needed to understand what kids were coming from the elementary with um and so the instructor that herself was a teacher and a writer of the curriculum um was showing them some of the new models that kids are learning in Eureka including an area model for multiplication um which is um different than the lattice model but a really conceptual understanding of multiplication um and the teachers were really
excited that that kids as young as kindergarten were really starting to develop um some really strong Tools around place value and other Concepts that many students really struggle with and so I I honestly believe as a parent in the district as well uh with a child that is now going into fourth grade and has just learned his multiplication that there was a lot of uh differentiation available and in some of these differentiation workshops they actually show uh the extension of the activity into other grade levels so the Continuum of how that model still works when you go into more advanced mathematics and so those are some of the things that we be available to teachers by attending this training okay I did like everyday math by the way I think Everyday Math was certainly A
step above a Saxon where we're memorizing algorithms and so when we confront new problems we don't know how to apply that to a new situation I think that uh if we give Eureka Math uh some time that we'll see even deeper understandings conceptually that many of our students struggle with mathematically any other questions here so um I looked at the agenda I noticed you math and I personally you know don't have much experience with it I grew up with math boxes um but I do have friends of mine who have younger siblings who have had Eureka Math for a few years and being an open gym I've had the opportunity to look at the problems help kids out with it and even I struggled and I understand that for many parents it's difficult because they
can't uh help their child and it's frustrating and I understand that too even for me and I think that I'm sure there are resources for parents a way that they could help their child and kind of guide them through uh what they should be doing how they should be um helping their their child and when I look at the problems and I think back when I was younger and I think about in the future when these kids are going to grow up and they're going to go through high school algebra calculus the act and I remember back when I know I didn't have a strong base and as she said memorizing algorithms I only remember those algorith excuse me see math gets me twisted up algorithms for that one year and I know act for
many students is a hassle and these kids are typically at the top of their class honors kids but when they take that act it's it's timed and it's basic math usually and they make one mistake and they're done and usually it's because they don't know how to approach a problem several different ways and that's what I struggle I'd look at a problem and I'd say okay I kind of get it so I'm going to try you know the way I know how to do it because it's time but if you know how to attack problem the different ways kind of in your re of math where you have different ways of approaching a problem then you wouldn't have a problem when you look at the act and you say okay I can answer this problem
this way this way this way and it kind of sticks to you if I only have one way to say uh find an exponential function or something like that and I don't remember it on the test you know and timing is another thing too if Eureka tries to make kids uh memorize or remember really long ways of answering a problem well that's not going to be helpful in high school when you have one class period to do a calch test and the teacher only gives you that set amount of time to finish the test so I'd like to see how Eureka uh really does um put more attention to later on in the years when you have to worry about time and you have to pick out the best sort of method that works for
you and is a quickest because in the end time is money right so I think that's all and visual learning as well I mean for a lot of kids I personally um didn't struggle with math but I know for many kids it was a struggle so typically I was a good memorizer I can remember um math very well but I think for kids it's really important to have a good base whether that's visual learning or just uh algorithms basic rythmics so thank you so when when we bring this back to the board on the consent agenda we will amend it with the board's permission to be contract renewal curriculum instruction great minds professional development ureka maath because again this wasn't um Eureka Math was the curriculum approved by the board and I know that there
it does take several years to implement a new curriculum especially one that is math at this point k through eight right um and it does it is a much uh more complicated math system than Everyday Math was and I can say as a parent who moved in with a second grader and a fourth grader being approached with Eureka Math as a parent was equally as confusing as getting Eureka Math is for parents today um luckily we have a lot of resources our citizens advisory Council and the CN staff put together four parents to try to help their students at home uh but I wanted to clarify that this is for the professional develop for teachers not on Eureka Math any other questions okay thank you our next is the contract renewal for curc instruction for
for ciri DX I hope I said that right Jackie Johnson and joining Mr Sparks present is Jackie Johnson coordinator of secondary literacy and libraries Mr Sparks our next proposals for curriculum and instruction sir Cy DX Administration recommends the Board of Education approved a 5-year contract renewal and the total amount of$ 49,3 two40 as submitted by cersi DX this expense will be charged to the education fund this cost is included in the 201617 school year budget are there any questions so this does this include the elementary schools as part of the circulation so it's all all of our sites yes this includes elementary middle and high school and it's a circulation is it also an online catalog it's our cataloging circulation system yes 57 libraries okay okay any other questions okay thank you our next is

recommend that the Board of Education approve a three-year contract renewal in amount of $ 65,8 1814 six cents as submitted by BMC Software Inc this expenditure be charged to the education fund this cost is included in the 201617 school year budget are there any questions okay thank you and our next is a contract renewal for a school and community relations for Blackboard um as Mary Fergus comes up to join Mr Sparks I just wanted to point point out for the board you'll notice that uh in the past every year for a lot of these software systems uh we would come back to the board on an annual basis and just give here's the cost approve it for next year here's the cost approve it for the next year um rather than continuing on that cycle
I asked Mr Sparks and Mr Dr King to to look at if we could generate some savings by actually just engaging with a firm for a period of several years and that way it could reduce our cost rather than just doing a one-ear up um and so that's what they did and that's why at least the last two proposals um came forward to you tonight are there any questions yeah thanks for putting the Savings in there uh for that that's helpful and so this final one is the contract school and community relations for Blackboard Mr Sparks our final proposal is for school and community relations Blackboard contract renewal Administration recommends the Board of Education approved a three-year contract renewal for a total amount of $478,900 new website platform do you foresee any difficulties challenges or
who knows so Blackboard recently acquired another content management platform called School wires who is uh one that we considered three years ago and we really liked actually they came out a little bit expensive which is why we chose the the product that we did um so I think as part of this contract that priced in the support to help us migrate to this platform which we think will serve us much better okay but the nice thing is they're not going to end support on the current product we can do it you know very gradually and kind of you know um based on our timing and and how long it takes us to get the new sites up and kind of um cut them over in a rolling fashion so I think the risk is is
fairly low okay great thank you any other questions okay thank you and that being the last item on our agenda but I have a motion to adjourn so move second I think it was me call please yes noan yes Mrs yes Mr cell yes M Ellis Mr yes M yes
