all right I'd like to call the order our Board of Education meeting for December 8th 2022 at 6 pm roll call please Mr President Hotel here vice president here Heroes here boy the music here Ortiz here Sanchez here also president or Dr salami Mr bambor Mr Crest Mrs Lathan Mrs Moran and Mr all right if we could oh sorry stand for the Pledge of Allegiance United States of America all right we'll move on to approval of the agenda I need a motion to approve the agenda as presented Gina roll call boat Ortiz aye vice president aye President Hotel all right six eyes zero and I guess one answer motion carried all right we move on to District achievements um for this meeting we wanted to highlight and recognize a wonderful Middle School achievement the middle

school math team took first place overall at the pmsa math contest on November 29th Ivory student who competed won an award this year so a big congratulations and thank you to our coaches Amanda McMahon and Anna McKenzie on leading the team to such a wonderful win great job that is our main achievement for this meeting so from there we will go on to our public hearing and our first item is our 2022 tax levy hearing including fund balance disclosure so our business manager will be presenting the tax levy hearing and then we will open up do we also open the questions up to the audience for that since it's a public hearing yes if there is any yes so to start I need a motion to open the 2022 tax levy hearing By Dana second

five Rose a roll call Boat Sanchez hi uh President Hotel oh wait sorry let's just opened up the discussion correct and then we'll close it I'm saying do you feel do we do the hearing all right good evening same presentation from last month go through it uh a little faster but hit the major points along the way so the tax levies major source of Revenue approximately 18 of our Revenue per year it starts by reviewing the needs of the District Individual fund balances including current fund balances projected annual expenditures and projects and lots how much can the levy go up we're limited to the property tax extension limitation law which limits us to an increase of five percent or the Consumer Price Index whichever is the less we're here it is going to be the

five percent which it will be less but as you will see later on we are going to ask for more than five percent but they will reduce us to the maximum allowable amounts going up for details on that later um some of the pitfalls is not maximizing the levy which will result in loss of dollars not just for the current year but future years to come because once you don't capture the dollars in the lobby office of several funds are also subject to a ceiling rate which is important to make sure when going through the levy that's a basis that increases and decreases in your assessed value that uh social so why do we ask for more there is a portion of the levy that we don't know at the time that we compute the

levy so to anticipate any changes in that portion we do increase our Levy slightly to accommodate that we don't know what New Growth will be we also don't know what equalized assessed about equalized assess value I do track that from year to year just to help me gauge Trends in it I do talk to also the county assessor and the village to see if they have any any information that will be helpful but preparing the levy I'm doing anticipate a decrease but it is not one of our triannual review years so those significant swings in the levy as such value will be anticipated one of the nice graphs that I found recently was uh kind of breaks down what our assessed value is based upon presidential virtual industrial and railroad so I wanted to put

that out there for a community and board just get to see the breakdown of our assessed value as you can see we are predominantly residential evaluation here with the majority of our dollars in residential valuation but there is some commercial industrial and Railroad property growth that's the other component which is unknown so one of the ways that I go about to determine that outside of communicating with other Taxi bodies and the county to see if there's any large property coming down the books is to track the previous year Trends to help me come up with an understanding of what to expect for the upcoming year fund balances um wanted to give a history here of fund balances as you can go through a majority of our fund balances in the educational fund we do have

consistent fund balances and operations that service Transportation schedule projects those vary from year to year based upon what actually is going on within that fund working cash fund that's uh where we save some of our money for our future Capital project needs and then toward fire present prevention and save the other thing so the 2022 Levy it does start with the 2021 extension we have that five percent limit of to obtain the prior year equalized assessed value of those figures in the past charts estimate out what a new equalized assess value could be we then determine what the proposed Levy will be for number 22 and the related increase of 6.97 percent if we went through it by fund they're looking at 190 000 in irf and Social Security 300 000 in our torque fund

Transportation fund of 875 and education over 10 million 70 building of 1.7 million the working cash of 214 000 and special education which does roll up into our educational fund for 120 000 for a total of 14 million four hundred nine thousand two hundred and forty dollars compared to the 2022 Levy can see it's approximately a 6.97 increase in the prior year uh certain funds within there will go up and down based upon need as mentioned then look at the fund balance injected expenditures and then any projects at large that would be coming through extension breakdown kind of looking very confidently similar to what we did with the assessed value we can take a look at the actual extension 2020 is the most recent year available but it's just seeing of the money that we're

actually loving and how much of it does break down to tax dollars that are going to be imposed to be residential commercial industrial environment the top and we need to be charged that the county puts out there we're going forth one other thing is is we did mention ceiling limits and making sure that we're not leaving money on the table so I do stress test the levy to make sure that the levy does hold and I've tested with a decrease of 26 percent down to 315 million and it increases 17 up to 500 000. so make sure that in any of those events between those ranges that are locking towards true and we're not labeled any tax dollars on the table I was able to obtain the 2021 tax year which is the most recent

data available for final tax rates our position hasn't changed from 2020 but you can see you know our final tax rate for 2020 3.409 and where we fall with some of the surroundings for any questions from the board familiar's information we do appreciate you taking the time thank you to do the public here not a problem I really enjoy it so thank you all right now we will uh move to closing hour during the 2022 tax levy uh hearing so I need a motion to adjourn the 2022 tax over here second by Gina roll call vote um expertise Sanchez aye President Hotel aye Sim size zero names promotion carried it is all right we move on to audience comments I don't have any right now so we will move on to action on consent agenda

these are those items minutes business and personal matters that are routine in nature any item may be moved from the consent agenda to action item with discussion all items on the consent agenda are approved with the single motion unless removed before the roll call vote and they include our regular board meeting minutes open and closed sessions of November 10th 2022. and our Personnel report which can be found here at the meeting or on our district website so I need a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented Molly second by Rose all right Sanchez hi Ortiz hi zero F7 all right motion carried moving on to action items with discussion our first item is Bill's claims and payrolls authorization so can I get a motion open discussion regarding the approval of the bills and claims

and payroll as presented by Rose I'll second all right um Dennis can you just give us a brief overview of where we are in terms of our budget whether we've gotten any further monies from the township so in the month of November we have not received any further Revenue as it relates to property taxes and I'm hopeful that December will bring change as I mentioned in the past the client was to put out the bills near the end of November early December and then as Asheboro accounts receive those bills they'll pay those pretty quickly in the residence we're supposed to be due back in the end of December 31st um as far as our expenditure goes we are on track uh every month I do put out the treasures report kind of give you the

percentage that we're looking for it will vary based upon what the expenditures are boss leases are due in you know July so those expectations are off the table very quickly supplies and some of our purchase services do happen we're immediate in the beginning of the year but then as the year progresses that does come more to it to you know 11 12 of the year or should be at 75 so we're very close to one target with us happier if the revenue was as far as expenditures are able to so you anticipate that some of the expenditures based on what I just heard you say are going to slow as we go towards the end as we further along in the year so it will balance itself out most of our expenditures roughly 65 percent

of salaries and benefits those are pretty even throughout the year but like the capital expenditures and stuff like that yeah okay any further questions for Dennis all right thank you Dennis all right roll call vote hi Robert Ortiz hi Boyd hi Vanessa hi Sanchez hi vice president I'm 790 all right motion carried all right um our next item is our first reading of policy 5120 employee ethics conduct and conflict of interest so this is a policy we went over last meeting the lower provided attachments for the updated version based on our Direction I need a motion to open discussion for the approval of the first reading of well by Molly second second By Dana all right uh the floor is open then any questions or concerns regarding the first reading for this policy it's been

updated obviously to reflect what we agreed on so I think we're good all right roll call vote boy hi Ortiz hi music hi the first question hi Sanchez hi cheers aye President Hotel hi 780. motion carried all right the next item is another first reading for policy 4165 awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse and grooming behaviors this is another process we went over the last meeting and we got more provided attachments for the Press version based on our Direction so can I get a motion to open discussion for the approval of the first reading of four one six five moved moved by Dana second second by Rose all right any questions concerns regarding this first reading that is a no roll Cabo where's the hotel hi vice president Hi Sanchez hi music hi Ortiz

aye Heroes hi boy aye 790 motion carried all right the next item is our bus lease resolution for the one type a bus uh as discussed last meeting due to an accident earlier this year we were looking to lease a bus and this is some furtherance of that so I need a motion to open discussion regarding the approval of the bus lease resolution as presented authorizing the lease for one type a bus by Miley second second by Gina all right any questions uh for Dennis in regards to this lease no agreement then no all right it's a real combo vice president Hi President Hotel hi Sanchez aye Ortiz aye aye music aye 790 episode motion carries okay our next item is authorized authorization to bid for the summer 2023 WIS door project so as part

of the approval we received for the fiscal year 23 maintenance Grant and thank you again Dennis and team for getting us that part of our application was to replace doors at WIS ourselves can we get a motion to open discussion approving the authorization for our business manager to work with Studio GC on issuing bid documents for this work removed by Rose second by Dina all right questions regarding doors for WIS which doors are these there are some various doors throughout we're not going to focus right now interior there is both interior and exterior that are past their usual life we're going to focus on common doors bathrooms cement accent doors some submissions over there roughly around 125 000 members how many doors I need to really get announcement yeah open seven depending on how many

exterior Mentor anterior doors we're going to be looking at um hallway doors that are double doors and fire rated those kinds of things there's a wood bathroom doors I would imagine we'll get before I'm telling you that angler does see a lot of views throughout the day and it's which store is that it's the one that all the children come through for the lunchroom and then you say this is some of the doors so like how many doors would still then need replacing this all the Legends still need to be replaced after this event don't want to go quite there yet because when it happens I want to bring the whole building up to the same lock keys key schedule is the primary so when that happens on Board of Education would um to the

doors and upgrading their keys to match with the primary but which school has the keyless that's to get into the building oh that's just to get it all three of you but like the actual class the interior doors yeah the exterior doors we have you know Masters and totally Masters and electricity for them it's just that for ease and convenience we do at the electronic um okay so any other questions for the double doors inside of the building that are being replaced like it would be replacing with what are you there are you are we upgrading in some way or it would be for safety reasons then there's we want to make sure if we're going to touch them that we're bringing them up to code but all of our doors aren't you know they

have the fire holds and the wood potentially they come back in with a metal door depending on what the architect would recommend but I would go based upon what they are at the tax recommendation is like we're walking onto got it thank you all right if there's no further questions or we'll call vote Heroes aye Ortiz aye Sanchez hi hi zero motion carried thank you all right our next item is approval of the fiscal year 2022 tax levy resolution final aggregate tax levy and certificate adoption any motion to approve the resolution to authorize the final aggregate tax Lobby for the year 2022 and to adopt the 2022 certificate of tax levy as presented a second by Gina all right so this is a part and parcel to our tech savvy process and is there anything

further you wanted to add in terms of explanation this is the actual certificate that we get together the county clerk authorizing on behalf of the district to loving money properties for the district mirrors the presentation we just won any questions for Dennis okay roll call vote Ortiz hi Sanchez hi President Hotel aye vice president aye Wade hi good music hi hi 790 no she carried okay our next item similarly approval of fiscal year 2022 tax levy resolution this is the extension reduction to certain funds any emotion to approve the resolution directing the Cook County Clerk to apportion any extension reduction to certain funds is presented by Molly second button try Dana sorry um similar question Dennis anything you want to add by way of explanation for this one this is uh as I mentioned we're

loving in 6.97 this directs the county uh clerk as far as how to reduce the lighting to get it to the maximum volatile amount uh based on the property tax essential limitations on the property growth there's proportionment that we've requested so that in the event that we did Levy too much that they will reduce each funding proportionate to get us down to the maximum thank you any further questions for Donna Summers okay we'll call vote point hi Ortiz aye President Hotel bye vice president aye Sanchez I'm 7908 motion carried all right we're moving now into discussion items with no action uh the first item is policy revision 770 attendance and truancy um from looking at this it looks like every two years this policy must be updated and are we pulling this up there excuse

me I think it's true oh it's the Press version with footnotes might be our best option right now to put up I guess does anybody any of the board have any suggestions my thing was really just um there were certain there were a couple items where they said I think it was footnote five were valid cause for definite uh absence for elementary districts delete pursuant for a phrase so I just wanted to make sure if we wet breasts we would cover it we would we would remove that set right under five where it dents for elementary districts delete the following phrase from the second sentence so basically it allows kids to have the excused promoting but we don't need that because we're here but escalaged that one and then footnote 15. yeah I think another

one where it mentions are we doing all these things right now Phil the like the protocols well just all but all of it you know there's a lot in here that I don't know that just you I just want to make sure that we have these you know that we're aware of the things that need to be done we're adapting this policy that we're actually going to and then if we're not yeah yeah no you know I my plan was to um a process to identify and track students who are true in chronic records oh yeah we absolutely have you know those those things we absolutely are doing um and a process to telephone within two hours that's and are we doing the identification of Supportive Services yeah we do all of this yep but

you know what it's just uh it's just to um follow up with the principles to have a discussion about like how is that working like our current process so like you know we're identifying these kids okay have we seen change now I know in middle school we have um the student Advocate which then is directly responsible for those students who are chronically you know he actually has a group of kids we don't have that resource at the other buildings but they have different processes so you know well like number nine for example I was just gonna ask about that 19 like reasonable efforts to provide ongoing professional development to teachers administrators board members school resource officers and staff on the appropriate and available Supportive Services for the promotion of student attendance and engagement I don't

remember us doing it as a board but like what would that even be wrong does it have to be the borders and it says Sports in there no I know what I'm saying is it like to the student engagement would be the training that we give classes based on student engagement and then they've been one of our mandatory videos Laura do you have the topics of the mandatory videos I think there's one now I can get them for you there might be one related to that and those mandatory videos that we need to watch as part of our trainings so would that be for just certified stale um bus drivers cafeteria career professionals are all required to watch them and you know it's a school resource officer in that list they are to watch the

videos oh no they don't watch dogs they're not watching those videos I'm you know the the I prior to last year I mean if you looked at our attendance rates we had you know above 95 in the last couple years our attendance has taken a dip for you know different reasons um so it hasn't been that that much of a problem here you know it's been isolated with some families but it's something that you know so professional development we haven't had to have uh huge amounts of professional development for the for the whole staff because the people who are involved the social workers the principals um no for sure I guess what I'm saying is that that's why I'm asking because I have it in here and then if we're not following the policy if

we're not providing it to these other people then maybe we need to take those people out of number nine uh you might have to but that keep them in there you have to keep them in well if you like get the footnote it's stating it's citing a school code let's see is that specifically names those people but I know like this um this policy was renewed it was updated to reflect some changes in school called okay so I literally just got a day of our last four views I was hoping to get a last one so um so then maybe and I wonder what it says and I wonder when it says reasonable efforts like what is that even like what does that mean like so reasonable it doesn't say like yearly it just says

reasonable efforts to train the different people so you know even everyone's in that bucket doesn't mean that we maybe if it probably becomes more severe and we start expanding the what was that Laura that exactly exactly well as you baby we go through today just in terms of the way it is as it as it stands and then for the first reading yeah it's just something that we that the Board needs to be aware of yeah we either create procedures too yeah yeah so let's look right here cheerleaders might be oh I bet they're at their lockers um we can we can either create procedures to fulfill the the policy or um if you feel like with the first reading there's anything that we wouldn't be able to fulfill then we can note it then

and remove it that makes sense is that fair to everybody yeah okay what if it is is the whole policy no no well the main I do think we should take out what was in what was noted and put up 5 and 15. yeah I have a note for to look at five and fifteen adjust and then there's one more the I think I think I think it's where the numbers are if you scroll down what is it scroll down yeah they're 14 and 15 here I think it said remove those yeah right yeah I can remove those yeah so that would be the other yep make sense is everybody okay with that or do you yeah I'm going to send those three things three things okay thank you and we'll have additional chance to

update it with the first reading and the second reading okay then that is for policy 770 attendance and truancy if everybody's okay we'll move to the next one okay the next item is policy revision 6250 community resource persons and volunteers um I think this was just uh you noted in here replacing the terminal non-certificated with non-licensed yeah the a lot of it is just wording that change have changed um what you'll see I think later in the meeting is I did just like a look at all of our policies and what the last time was they were all updated so I was just looking at ones that might be more relevant to our districts and since we have so many volunteers and community members coming in and that one hasn't been updated since 2008 that's

why I pulled this one in particular so um yeah no I think well there's nothing exciting about it no really but it's just one that's more I feel like more relevant I think one of the big things too is like on the bottom it says a person who is a sex offender not just a child sex offender so um the policy before was referring just to child sex offenders and so now the policy would be that any sex offender could not enter the building which is the Press version your referencing right and that would pop up on Raptor right yes and we'd also it would pop up too because anytime someone uh on a regular basis we run them in the sex offender the murder registry they do a background check and a fingerprint but

I'm thinking for like wptc yeah they're just Raptors right yeah yeah and so there's also like you know sometimes we have those parent or that like we have the the play and so the the musical and like parents coming in that night they don't have to get a background check to come in for one night this is not really volunteering though right but I know but there was like last year but just like one night for with the play yeah like volunteering for that night but they're if they're under the direct if there's like an adult like a staff member there then we don't run them you know you could you know run them through Raptor yeah the red but you don't have to have them get the background checked no that makes sense it

also highlights just more of the reasons you might use um a volunteer as well compared to the one from 2008. and so how someone run through Raptor license they need to scan your ID it's like a little machine yeah right now I didn't know what it was for yeah so I'm hearing like we are in agreement with the Press version yes yeah okay so Laura will go with press on that one all right then moving on to our bus driver procedure manual uh Dennis made some updates that he wanted to go over with the board the manual has been around since 2001 and it does say in there that it is not intended to be a contract in case there's any concerns on that end I guess just some background on why we were updating

it now if it's just because it's been a while or what you wanted to put in there there's actually one of our bus driver meetings they have requested handbook be available as there is a handbook and just updated at some time and they wanted to go to an updated well that sounds pretty good so we did we worked with the bus drivers on this one we had meetings just to talk about this handbook particularly what was the stuff in here is procedural updates job description updates there is an update though to the bonus that they wanted to put in there though so that is something that you will see in there it's been sometimes it's a bonus structure for the bus drivers has been updated and the current structure of it is is we have

fiber less absences than you're entitled tools bonus and the new structure does increase the amount of the bonus to a thousand but it is more of a phased out after one absence who lose fifty dollars a second fifteen Thirty fourth is 105th is 100.99 I also put something in there for Boss AIDS a lot of certain amounts but like I'm extending that onto them same similar structure without including their job description just curious this wouldn't have been a part of like the negotiations that we just did for support services yeah it's clearly in the handbook it says this handbook is not intended as a contract of employment so it's just and it says it this uh handbook maybe added revised it's not that's like on the purpose and that additional policy procedures applicable to all

ESP may be found in an official board policy so it's not meant to supersede any of the contracts or policies just a kind of guidelines for them so I assuming if there was a conflict then the contract would yeah the policy or this program they have to yeah in we have a a district handbook correct yeah but it needs to be updated too when it's something that like that one's one supersedes this this are are there buses specific things through the bus drivers so I like the bonus for example like is that in the district no um one thing I can do because it's just something I wanted to bring to the discussion item that I will bring the unaltered 2001 for that see the changes that we're looking you should be able to compare

against original documents but the big one in there is the bonus and the job descriptions you know uh our transportation coordinator position wasn't in the actual original one so we had to go through and add that in their bus AIDS weren't in there so we had to make sure that we got those in there just give a good idea of what that position will be doing bus drivers really changed I mean being a bus driver 15 years ago procedurally procedures are fairly consistent minor updates but nothing nothing so in your opinion that staff would will welcome these updates yeah see they were perfect because that's not something I did alone we we had a meeting and went through it that we broke and you know they reviewed the handbook we met again I think they

were very much and then in terms of just keeping it updated from here out that's going to be on you I I think um you know working with the bus drivers if there's a there's a updates and I'm bringing that before the Board of Education for approval yeah Dana and do other departments have something like this do we have handbooks for for all the various departments that don't fall under the contract not everyone um another item on the agenda today is to look at job descriptions for our lunchroom staff those weren't available so that is something that I work with staff to develop there is a maintenance handbook that does need to get updated but they're in the they have a Union contract now they do but again job descriptions and stuff like that something

that we'd have to work together to come up with something to bring forth to the Board of Education which it was speaking primarily of none the ones that are not covered under the contract right right yeah that's correct which would be our long-term staff okay and I think Phil mentioned something just and I know this is off topic a little bit that the district policy or handbook is not updated as well it needs to be updated as well okay last question for me is if is this pretty common across districts that they have like a bus manual or I would say yes I did reach out to several districts that I know that does that they do their own bossing and I obtained copies of those so okay I didn't I mean while we had

one I wanted to compare it to what other school districts have to make sure that you know our bus driver job description is very comparable to what other ones are and like positions are comparable so it is about five or six of them done every shot okay any other questions from the board is uh is the next step do we what would be if there's this thing to use about the next steps like yeah we have to approve a manual like this does that have to become an action item at another meeting I would bring it back again in January again just because there is compensation yeah thank you um okay well you can stay there we move on to uh I'm sorry about the approval the bonuses were in place before or is this

something new the bonuses are in place but they haven't been updated and but they worked you just increase the bonus the bonus but also the structure for which they get it previously it was if you just had five or less days you get the whole thing now we're going to go with more of a there's there's a penalty for every day so it wasn't it was was in there as a provision it's just that we made some changes to it and slightly increased that's right okay all right good all right moving on then to job description update uh cafeteria supervisor and cafeteria Elite supervisor so you wanted to detail out the job description for each correct um currently don't have one in place I wanted to make sure that we had something to kind of

formalized what the expectations of that position each of these positions are worked with our food service coordinator to come up with the job descriptions and bring them before the Board of Education another guy and I didn't obtained like job descriptions from other school districts just to make sure that we're comparable any questions in regards to either the cafeteria supervisor job qualifications or the lead cafeteria supervisor job qualifications for Dennis yeah I think we're comfortable with what you presented thank you and I'll bring it back again thank you you got it appreciate it um discussion of sixth grade basketball program um so it's really not like a complete discussion of the program but um a question was was posed regarding travel and some background on the sixth grade basketball program and so um that context was

added here by the administration um so the question was specifically around busing the wide Arizona for sixth grade um I don't know is there busing even for fifth grade uh no because they'll be enjoy the weekend right there on the weekend so there isn't for fifth either but there was a description here sort of how it happened how we got to the program that we have for basketball and that there really isn't other great options nearby and then some explanation around the difficulties I think of of providing Transportation if that was desired so opening it up to the board yeah I feel a little bit ignorant for not knowing this but can do we actually is this sixth grade program been happening the past few years is it it's happening before the trials are on

the 13th or this year depends on yeah you know I I think that there was a it was a just because prior to that like there was an issue I think maybe when your boy was like wouldn't have a coach and then I'm not sure if they play but then um it might have been a year where we didn't have it for a cold but I don't know if there was always just about getting a coach and then but we have a coach secured and you know for boys and girls for boys yeah I don't think I don't know if the girls season under yeah sixth grade girls okay oh I'm sorry no that was fifth grade I don't know if there's a sixth grade girl the sixth grade girls played with the fifth grade

team but some of the sixth grade girls that were on them yes they don't think they're allowed to I thought they played with the seventh though there's been a lot like the past several years there wasn't the sixth grade team because there wasn't enough seventh graders to fill that team so we moved sixth grade up so we didn't need a sixth grade like we wouldn't have been able to roster right so because anyone who was interested so maybe the push wasn't there yeah I remember when we did add the sixth grade there was definitely you know the board was pushing for because there was a gap there yeah that's right and maybe at that time maybe that was awesome the participation was lowering every year and so I know for sure for the like I

think only because I was at every sixth grade because clay game because Michaela's all of her friends that were in sixth grade played for seventh grade so let me clarify I was at every seventh grade game so all of the sixth graders played seventh grade team on the seventh grade team this year yes it was about at least I would say 90 of the team was sixth grade yeah sixth grade for the girls but for the boys it's not the that's not the case right well yeah I think the seventh grade boys had enough yeah they have their own right now they played tonight seven has their own teammates has real quick and then sixth grade will have there and then the girls for the seventh grade the same thing they were all they were

playing they were playing for eighth grade because there wasn't they needed and so I guess my question was or I have a question as it relates to this because I do see that that is that I was thinking about how if kids couldn't get to the games or couldn't get to the practices outside of that and how we could support them there was a potential and this just gives a little bit more context and background to it but it just seems like you know because they are late and because it's so far away you know yeah and I don't know I don't know if asking Greg or if they've ever said that there hasn't been kids that have been able to get there I don't know if that's ever been you know because if there's

families going there just know it just they just they find a way I I I can't right I could ask Greg and the coaches like have we ever had kids that just can't participate either working or don't have transportation or whatever right and where are these games in Cicero but on the far side of Cicero yeah it's pretty far away yeah they're pretty far and they look late yeah they're late and that's the whole thing about the for the during the week and that was the one thing with the coach was like you know they're it was the harder hardest thing for getting a coach because they're playing so late and then they have to come home from and then to wherever they live and so they're getting home sometimes nine ten o'clock at night

and then that's why to have them on a bus then the bus drivers aren't going to want to stay because then they got to be back up and and then if there's all the family so if you know how it goes when you have kids that play in teams you've got to go home on the bus and even with your parents there right you can't leave with your parent right you gotta go and so that it's like well now I gotta take my kids so it's logistically I just don't know like I could ask Greg I don't I don't know if it has been a problem where kids that were on a team could not make the game because I think the coach would work to however to get I do think that it has

been an issue that the sixth grade team whether it's the boys or girls are not showing up for games yeah I mean the sixth grade just having a sixth grader who's interested we got because they were going to read emails about no this year okay that if you are trying out like you are committing to being at the games because I think they've had issues in the past where kids have signed up to play and then maybe didn't realize how far away it was or whatever it's not as like I said and I'm not saying that that's something that we can do but if it was something where it was being orchestrated by the school that they were probably more likely to make the games versus if they're relying on their parents or neighbors or

whomever to try to get them to the game the times are just really odd it's you know I mean there's nothing we can do about it because that's the how the tournament runs but that's very very late as well I suppose there's no other I know they don't play six no they don't they don't have so they go from fifth take a year off sometimes they even have fifth remember like we no no but Lions is the district that we have joined fifth grade yeah so they don't have a sixth grade League well I just think lines make sense because that's where you go already for fifth grade until yeah and then we play over there I've been to that gym too yeah following her little friends yeah it does seem honestly right that's where

we were like or is there anywhere around here and that was where we ended up with so yeah I guess we know if you looked into yeah I'm sure I'll ask I know I know that when we when this first started I remember how this came about because it was when lettuce was the principal right and he came from Lion so he was able to then get our team in there so where where do the lions conference I don't know what they call themselves The Lions conference like where did those where did the sixth graders play yeah sixth graders maybe they play in the one we're at but they don't have sixth grade it might be the same thing so I'm just curious I just was just wondering to see you know because a lot

of kids probably can do and get there and some kids maybe not and we want to make sure that it was if we could if there was something that we could do we could do and it is a reality that you're we're dealing with travel teams now and some of those things happen later in the evenings and kids will don't want to say they're they're not trying out for the the you know their school team but then they have conflicts and they can always make them so that becomes an issue how do we know how many how frequently the games are is it like once a week no they said it could be multiple games in one week is what the email had said then typically it's one but you could have two or three

that's a lot that's a commitment huge community that's tough but when you love the game you can love the game and your parents can say I'm not driving it it's just around three times a week I know it is it was a hot I remember doing it and it was a lot yeah it's a little season two right I think so yeah December so something like that yeah so I'm just I'm asking another sure it's a follow-ups right now yeah just out of curiosity like I you know if it wasn't so far I wonder if it would be obviously it would be easier but like does does DP have a sixth grade team yeah I mean there's a Catholic what I'm saying for the fifth grade team like they're the Catholic school is in there

and from Oak Park are coming over there extension please yeah um Luke's I think is there so I guess I'm saying it's not unheard of to mix public and private for sports I guess Phil's gonna thank you I just emailed them I have it up there you know what I'll just email it to you yeah just don't give me an answer tonight or tomorrow and if we have to discuss it again we could do that the next week all right we are moving on to information items and first item is correspondence no correspondence has been received in November so move on to board president's report uh the only two items I had was one a number of us um went to the ISB conference and we attended different courses I attended specifically a superintendent evaluation

one which was more a sales pitch for a program called superval which was which was which was good and it's like two grand a year I think but it and it sort of formalizes the evaluation process so you don't have to do it so you don't have to use like Google forms and all this and um it's been growing it sounded like it's been growing in Illinois across District so maybe something for the future to think about but I didn't think it was necessary and didn't realize it was going to be that but that's what it ended up being and the other two courses I I went to were around diversity equity and inclusion and they were they were really good but I would rather write out a summary sort of of what those were

than to try to explain them but they they basically we had people from different districts um superintendents and principals and they would um they would talk about how they dealt with diversity Equity inclusion in their districts and it was it was just really interesting because we were really brutally honest just about like their areas and how they had to deal with it and and some of the stuff that was happening so it was sensitive information I felt like but you know they were so honest about it I felt like it really came through for both of them and it was a great experience for me to just listen to that but I'd rather sort of summarize it as best I can because I took notes on my phone provided to the board you know through

an email so I'll do that but I want to open it up to the board to discuss any of their experiences or if you want to talk about your class the classes you took as well um I I can write up mine too because actually I felt like this year I went to some decent ones that had some good information um uh I went to one on onboarding new board members because we have an election coming up so I went to that one I think a good amount is stuff that we did do but I think they had some good ideas uh Beyond just the you know that initial those initial meetings but they there were some that did a few more things like we check in at the three month Mark and we check

in at the six month Mark and you know just that understanding that we all know now that it takes a long time to sort of feel like you're up to speed so I thought those were some good um suggestions there um I also went to one about conducting board meetings during times of Crisis so um I felt really really fortunate after that one um you know just hearing some at some of the school boards what they have have had to go through mainly copied related um you know stress at their board meetings but also just some curriculum issues I felt really good about how our board meetings generally have been but there there was some helpful things about um things that I thought was useful that we could just have in our back pocket if

we do have um you know meetings that are a little bit more controversial um what else did I go to um I did go to one that talked about super eval but I think the interesting thing um some of the the districts that we're using it um did mention that not only did it have evaluation tools for the superintendent but there was a board member evaluation tools that was built into that so that that some of those boards use that to evaluate you know how they felt you know that they were working together um so that was in there again I don't think it's worth the money but it was interesting that they're sort of building that in yep so we did the beginning session all right the guest speaker she motivational speaker amazing he

was amazing her name was Amanda I brought the book okay yeah she was really really good and she was talking about basically about really how you navigate being a part of the community and how you work together with different types of diverse people and how you negotiate and the deal so it was kind of parlaying kind of a lot of the stuff that she talked about all of 209 should have been there to here how did you do that so it was very about the conflict and how many circular nature probably oh it was it was she was really really good and I took I took away from that that the board needed to be there but I also needed her book so I could negotiate with my daughter so that's one of the reason

why I bought the book in the first place uh but we also um Rose and I attended uh the first class we did and it was about diversity too I don't know if it was the same the one that we attended was related to attracting and keeping and keeping keeping diverse uh uh employee staff District Squad and how do you maintain those relationships and different things so the group that did it was or the district was Rockford which I did not even realize the magnitude of the size the you know the whole they have their own for just their District they have a chief of diversity exclusion so they have a very large budget of course and one of my first questions that I wanted to ask is someone we had our hand up together

and he said the same thing that I was going to say which is how do you implement something like that when you have a budget that sits big you have the staff you have the budget you have them like they poured in a lot of money just to make those changes and they have like a whole program that they where they start at the grade school level and high school level working with kids and bringing them into the schools and navigating and transitioning them in and then they partnered with several different colleges and universities so that they go through these programs and then they wind up that's so that's a lot of funding it's a lot of effort it's a lot of resources Etc so I still thought it was very interesting to hear one

of the things that he did say was try to take one piece of it at a time and he said you can start even like say for us if we wanted to start implementing something on a very small scale partnering with the high schools to see who are interested in teaching and starting to tap into that and then also tapping into maybe the local junior colleges and started building a relationship with them prior to them getting out of college or seeing and and working with them on that in that level as well so maybe making some inroads prior to just like when we just need a position but building a relationship with those different um local colleges so that we'll have some insight on that are coming in that are majoring in teaching and I

have some interest in might want to do some interning and different things of that nature so just starting at that kind of ground rules level before and versus when we actually have a need engine just doing like a you know attending some different functions the other one we thought was something related to it it talked about the district and and like detecting like I don't want to say it was fraud or so I can't remember exactly what the name of it was but it was not even related it was kind of like knowing your your laws and what we stand for as far as receiving gifts and um it was really it was really that's what we thought it was we thought it was about District ethics and what's right and wrong but it was

about it was more about the rules of the ethics it was about do you like to say you can't accept water or you can't you know what you do if you want to try to offer you a gift so it was something totally different than what we thought it was done it wasn't what we were looking for yes probably yeah better way to say it and then I represented us as the delegate and everything that we uh we were supporting was supported the one thing we did not support uh wasn't even voted on oh so um there was a lot of uh contention throughout the meeting um it lasted a really long time so I was only able to attend the guest speaker and then one additional session which wasn't a winner so um it

was an experience they have a new voting system which was fun no raising on the hands clickers it was clickers but um even there was contention with that so it was it was I enjoyed it was entertaining that's good I always appreciate being the delegate myself I always appreciate when we have the delegate because it really does take up so much of your your session time like you can't go too many other you know sessions it takes up half your day I appreciate you doing it yes it was it was completely the only thing that Stephanie mentioned on was about working with like the community colleges which I thought was really cool they said that you know when you kind of team up with them and start reaching out about your school district you know

they could come here and get some of their hours in you're helping them and then you kind of make a small incentive for them to possibly come work here afterwards and I thought that was a good idea they seemed that they got a lot of people coming into their districts that way but their District was just so large that it's hard to even compare our district or the way we do things like they do so but it was good oh my the one with the one I did that was similar to what your you guys are talking about with trying to retain diverse teachers and staff was with Evanston and they they have a whole program where they will pay the tuition that was a part of it yeah the tuition but they have to

agree to meet you at Evanston for a certain they're going to sign a contract they had a little system for that which was interesting and then the Robert even had housing like they provided housing and for their teachers I'm seeing it was I mean when I said the budget is big and then they even had where they were paying the students the teachers they had a salary a stipend a salary for them as well which I don't think there's not many school districts for the ones doing their internships or their school hours they were giving them something to like help them yeah look back at it when I say they were doing everything that you just said I'm telling it was just I'm listening to this they had so much it's a very large District

a lot of language Learners City yeah because it isn't it is yes um Bartlett or something out like West is the biggest District in the state my uh my other Dei course was Huntley versus the first or the second followed by and I also did an onboarding um of course it was a round table with others uh board presidents and members and so I'll I'll I'll I'll summarize that as well because that was interesting because some of them give a book to you know how to deal with boards and stuff but when they bring in new board members so um are you leaving your black book behind I have one more thing to say about that actually I need to talk about that like actually Laura I thought of you um because the one onboarding

they connected it perfectly well they didn't use four docs but whatever their version of bordox was but it was uh um it essentially ended up being sort of like a live website and they used it for onboarding but they used it for like ongoing board training so like it was everything that you kind of needed was in there like um you know like uh links to the different uh resources and like of the board policy everything was just sort of like this living breathing um tool that um board members and new board members could access whenever they sort of had a question it was all hyperlinked good question did any of them mention um going to like like college job fairs and things like that and those were successful at all because I've been getting

a lot of emails from my HR Network about some of those that are upcoming but I'm curious if they're what I got even worth it because definitely a fee to go to it but if they're not what I get from that is that their relationship has to start way before the jobs yeah that's what that's what was my take away you can't start the relationship with the job fair and then think you're going to get yes and so that's why they were saying about starting at the high school level with seeing figuring out like building that relationship with those those schools to find out who are potentially interested in majoring and teaching and then working with them as early as like their sophomore and junior year in high school as well as going to the

junior colleges and seeing who are majoring in education as well and starting to build some relationship with them and doing the volunteering internship just just making that connection with the school not necessarily the students either with the school and becoming a partner for them and they were saying how it was kind of like a swap and do you remember the exact what he was talking about how we do what we they allow us to come in and have access but we allow them to maybe be start to come in and talk about the programs and stuff so it's kind of I can't remember exactly how that worked but it was basically meaning that we help them and they help us in turn out of us and so if they're in and they're becoming a part

of introducing themselves up throughout the year and that we have that known partnership then it would be something like just like I think um I don't know if pmsa has something where like with the Dual credits and stuff that is associated with traffic yeah so that kind of that kind of deal but on the elementary you know on this level we would be doing it you know just trying to get to build some important relationship with them so so it doesn't sound like it no well they did actually talk about briefly and they were just because they were talking about trying to also keep teachers they were saying that going to a job fair you don't often get people that you know will be interested in companies not keeping them here in this role so

that's why they were talking about building those relationships early and yeah you know making groups with them you know does that help Laura does that help yes and the only thing sorry don't go to the chapter one thing I just want to I want to say is that I do appreciate you know the the triple a conference is really interesting that I go down there on Thursday and it's like it kind of has this party atmosphere like there's people just you know going out to eat and doing all these things and I'm like I'm really proud of our board members I told Brianna instead of a text I'm like our people are actually going to the trainings that are actually going their classes you know I hear a lot of different stories about people just

going down and just eating and you know drinking and just seeing the sights but you know I appreciate you guys are just very focused you go down on the Saturday and and you and you'll take take away uh take advantage of some of the classes that they're offering now some classes are Hit or Miss yeah but you know it's an experience but I you know like there's people that go down they spend you know they it's all in a District's dying too they're getting rooms and they're going to dinners and it's like no you know we pay for the the registration but then we go to you know go to the trainings and that's kind of how I don't like to to mingle too much down there like you know do what I have to

do and get out so I I mean I appreciate I think for the community too to understand that our board the way they operate like you guys are all business and they should be appreciative that you're using their dollars wisely so thank you thank you all right thanks Phil my last thing was just to thank the board members that were able to make uh the dinner last night I heard it was well attended and we definitely want the district to know we support them and appreciate them so for those who are able to make it last night thank you very much so I know I wasn't so I don't know everybody was able to make it but I appreciate it uh legislative report short report there with the three bills that will pass one in

the Senate and the house and the two other bills by the Senate and the fall winter session was tension on the 1st of December that's about it's a very short ly okay any questions for Mary that was three three items thank you thanks uh Mary for always following up on that and adding that in there um ISB West cook report nothing really except for some upcoming um iasb activities again like the webinars the one that I thought was most interesting I wasn't able to attend I'm hoping they release the recording it's um press and the Press plus issue 110 um so they had a webinar about that on December 6th so um if you have time if it's if they end up putting the reporting on that would be good and then they had one

today at 6 30 about um a part of their series of running for school boards it was uh how to navigate running for school board understanding the board member's role so again they're pretty good about putting the recording on there after the fact so those are two that are happening it's a timely one right yeah perfect okay uh thank you Dana for your requests we have one foia request that was received in November and that was handled um superintendent's report all right good evening so um I don't know if you know or not some of you have students but we've had performances this week and next week it's really an awesome time last night uh um the band performed here and and at is on Tuesday night the lights you know that we invested so

much in you've gotta if you get a chance to come see the performance next week we have the choir uh performing here the lights are really awesome they're even getting down the timing of it um we've got basketball games happening I know our cheerleaders the first time ever this Sunday they're uh actually entering a competition so that's cool it's at Riverside Brookfield High School I think it's like eight in the morning or something so that's the first for them so a lot of performance is happening it's awesome to get the kids out there uh the cyber bullying presentation we had it as I said we had it at is we had an MS and I know Stephanie just walked in we had parents just now about I think it was about 14 people in attendance

uh super powerful the guy is like the he is the guru of this cyber bullying he's you know he's been on the news um he's been on uh he's nationally he goes around nationally to present but the cool thing is is understanding that people can't always get these presentations we did videotape it it will be um you know Kumar will get the presentation and we'll upload it we can put it on our YouTube channel and on our website and I'll probably be available by Monday so I do encourage you guys all to watch it because like the first 15 or 20 minutes are going to be mind-blowing to it was I think all the adults in a room that I like our mods are just like wow like just to see what's happening with our

students and you know and um what he had to phrase uh what was it n NM nmk not my kid like we all have this thing not my kid my kid wouldn't do that right right so it's not even that it's your kid it's like they don't you know once you get into that you know the people that are out there are just way more Savvy and they just manipulate these kids into doing things that they just um they can't get out of so it's just something really important I was really pleased that we had people and thank Stephanie for um getting this guy actually at wptc who saw it and helped us pay for part of it um so like I said I'll make it available to you guys so you'll know uh winter

break uh next the 22nd a half day um you know we are we're limping into the winter break because as you guys all probably know in your families the cold season like last year was all about covet our coven numbers are staying you know with the shield testing of those kids that we're testing we've been averaging like one or two kids you know per school so the numbers aren't that bad but it's like more of the colds the I think Laura I'll tell you like it's just whether it's hitting the staff or the kids it's just a lot of runny noses a lot of coming in space our common numbers have been to put the we've got classrooms so to say we had the same rules apply if your kids aren't feeling well have you

seen an uptick in kids wearing masks or parents having their kids wear masks or not really I think it's about the same I'm seeing more teachers wearing masks so if they can stay healthy or when they come back I had a teacher that was up for a couple of days to test the flu fever gone feeling better yep so um just you know follow those you know sanitize wash your hands keep them home or sick just follow those rules uh we have a winter food drive uh from starting Monday until the 19th it's going to be in our schools and it's going to go to the Westchester food pantry so we're excited about that we know we'll have a great turnout it's always really important this time of the year to help our families help

our community the kids get into it there's incentives so that's really cool and then you know it's kind of going off of you guys are talking about the diversity trainings that you would talk to that you went to you know I don't know if you're aware of did they see would they have seen the email step about the cultural diversity advisory committee so if you want to if you just Steph just decided to put you at a spot but just a two minute just what that committee is is it's going to be we're looking for you know community members staff members WMS students administrators to be a part of this committee yeah seven people so what's the purpose is just to add you know to kind of right just make sure our practices yep so

we're excited about that she already has seven nominees so far two year like like she's looking for like a two-year commitment three times a year when did you send that I don't remember that one I said I saw this okay but it's not the one that Mr Barrett's doing though right no it's just it came from Stephanie okay I think well maybe I said on a Monday yeah it was exactly Monday last week Monday okay so um with that that's my report Tuesday wish you guys uh if I don't you know I don't see you next week just wishing all of our families uh safe holidays and an enjoyable holiday and you know we have a little bit longer break because we're going all the way up to the 22nd but then you have like

those three weekends so hopefully that long break people get to do something enjoyable with their families all right administrator reports um so they've all been attached here if we have any questions for the administration that's here we can ask those now or we could ask Phil follow up on anything does anybody have any questions from the attached reports I don't have a question of a compliment yes probably like that I really enjoy the ELA committee um I love that that you include the PowerPoint and like the um all the hyperlinks things to it so I mean just clicking through that I you really get a sense of what you know happened at the committee so thanks for sharing oh thank you Dana comments or questions all right well thank you for coming still um and
