Also, don't forget it's time for the statement of economic interest to be filed. It needs to be filed by May 1st or they start to get mean. Um so just a reminder of those couple of things coming up. And finally, any other board comments? Okay, we'll move to superintendent's report. All right, we're back to straight regular business after our final push here for the end of the school year. March 24th grade had to take a snow day on Monday, March 16th. Uh the snow snow day last day of school will now be May 26th, the two-day April moral day. So we're moving forward now. We're good. Spring sports are coming and then
009all of the community sports are at the same time for us. Next week we have the district choir festival at our 5-12 event for all of our kids that have choir throughout the district. About 2,000 people in the audience expected and it was an outstanding festival. Um great performances by all grade levels. All of these grades here feel that that span from a fifth grader to a senior in high school and the experience. Our junior choir was meeting last night at 5:00 and then all of them sing together as a group. Just go ahead and take a few minutes to really enjoy it with me and come and see our kids and see them perform and our teachers did a great job as well. Um we have our our band festival coming up on April
01013th at 7:00 p.m. at our Wilson High School. And then uh April 20th will be our orchestra festival at 6:30 at Wilson High School. So any any music lovers out there who want to just enjoy some great talent and um see see all feel our work coming into the collection, please come join us. That's my report. Thank you. Great. Next item on our agenda is the monetary report, which is college and career. Good evening. I'm joined tonight by Ms. Annie Thomas. She is our high school college and career counselor for both schools. She's also our counselor at Amos. And we're going to talk a little bit about just some of the updates within our program. So, one of our goals this year, from a community standpoint, was really trying to connect with our families. And
011so, we had a presentation uh in early March called Level Up. This was for all 9th through 12th graders to give families and students an opportunity to come in and really think about different pathways or progressions. If you'd like more information, I'll be So, the the night had really four focuses. And it was a conference-style event where parents could choose different sessions, whatever they felt like was best for their student or both students were here attending on this too. So, whatever they wanted some additional information And as a whole, it was great that we had MCC here talking about some of the programming that they do, as well as firefighting and paramedics and some of the programs they offer. We had our trade unions represented. Our welders team was in full force. They were great.
012They wanted to give the equipment to the students. I was able to meet them that night. They were so excited about the opportunity. We also had financial aid sessions and really a career focus. So, as you met Manuel last year as before with our internship presentation, he gave us some more opportunities for parents to understand that program as well. So, it was a really good night. At the end of the event, we had a feedback opportunity that we tried to we sent out to parents. And and the feedback we received was very, very positive. It was difficult for them to understand which session they wanted to go to, but it was a good thing at the same time, which is good. And then, we're really looking to get things more in depth possibly for next
013year. So, our goal is to have that as an annual, uh, evening that we just started this year. The second update I want to give you is really our micro-internship. So, when we talked to you, uh, and presented in January, we started this program. We didn't really have any students doing it at that time. It's been a a huge hit, a really, really successful endeavor. And I can say that our goal was to have 20 students each quarter. So, we had 17 through quarter between the two high schools. We got 26 this quarter. 40 total for all of the students this year. So, we have 40 40 already in the next, uh, so in the first and second quarter of next year. So, uh, it's been a really positive experience. This is so thankful for
014the employers of the community around the area. Uh, you might see some Facebook updates. We also have a few 60-hour internships. Students have completed this and we're counting the target at yet. Uh, but we have some that are working at the State's Attorney's Office. That's a picture of the top there. Uh, we also have a young lady up here who I was in session and she talked about her experience with, uh, the animal hospital on Woodside. And at the end of that session, there was about seven or eight women there and I had an opportunity to ask them, "What did you think of your positive experience at the animal hospital?" So, I think the word about the spread, uh, Manuela's doing a wonderful job getting kids ready, getting them polished to go out to be
015professional with our employers. I think the experience is there and growing. So, with that, I'm going to turn over the time to talk a little bit about college and career. Yeah, so, uh, we just had recently our college and career fair, which is my my baby, and it was excellent. We had 60, uh, colleges in attendance. We had all branches of military except for the Coast Guard because of the shutdown right now. They they could not attend. We are the only the only college fair that he does attend in the state and in the surrounding area. He's the former career of the whole state of Illinois and we're the only one he comes to. So, that's that's an honor and a privilege for us. We did have some new comers. We had the University of
016Chicago. We do have a student who's attending there in the fall and we were very impressed by her. And very impressed by her students. Like we expect to see great things happening after the fair. Also, University of Maine, Nova Nova Southeastern University, Florida, so in order. So, we have some great colleges that are hearing about us and want to be part of our fair, want to be part of our students' lives. We have eight career and trade and technical colleges. And then we also have 50 careers and businesses represented this year. And so, my goal for the last three years of doing this has been to try and grow by 10 each year. And so, we have a couple sets every year. Our next year we're looking for 75 colleges and 60 careers. I really
017like to hone in on law, veterinary, labor trade. That's been difficult because we have been in the country, so we're really going to try and pick them up as much as possible. And then music, music performance. So, we're going to talk to students. Those are the Those are the careers that they really like to talk about actually. Some of the things that we're doing, we're doing we're doing so many things. Um so, I won't I won't read this slide to you, but some of the things that I'd like to highlight are our senior seminar. We're in year two of senior seminar. As a counseling staff, we looked at how can we help make sure our seniors are well prepared? And rather than giving them all the information in one bundle and then hoping they stick,
018what we've done is we've taken each of the steps of the what's next process, whether that's college, career, military, or trade, and broken it down into very small bite-size pieces. We give them the information and then we give them time to work on that. And that has helped them significantly to lower stress, but also to increase the amount of students that are committing to applying to or figuring out what they want by the time that they hit graduation. So, that's been really positive for our students and we're looking to continue growing that. Right now we're about 17 breakout sessions and each session we do twice. And some of those we do virtually and post them on our YouTube channel as well so they can have access to that information. We have 68 admission reps come
019and visit us this year, and we're looking to continue to grow that number as well. And that means that colleges are coming to us, and our students are meeting them here in their space instead of having to get on campus, which is really great. We had essay writing workshops. We've been busy in classrooms, doing one-on-ones. And then starting in after the ACT, I will be meeting with uh juniors, our 50% middle 50% of class to uh help them start the process now so that when they walk in next year they're feeling more confident with their with the applications. We do financial workshops, financial evening workshops, uh we're FAFSA. We also have a great relationship with our ISAC rep, and therefore have been able to get uh our rep weekly uh hours. And so she's in
020and has office hours every every uh once a week at each school. Uh we also did a financial literacy uh nights for our parents. We hosted We did that mostly participated in the MCC high school career day. We had career speakers. And then that's not even touching on our trades. We've gone to visit uh Regal Rexnord, Scot Forge, Swiss Automation to make sure that our students that are interested in manufacturing trades uh know how to get into the fields that they're interested in. We support our military with ASVAB. We do it once in the fall and once in the spring. This year we had 75 students test. We had 78 for North. Some of those because they want to learn more about career, and some of them because they're interested in the military, and some
021of them because they don't know what that test is and they wanted to give it a shot. And so um they they learned a lot about themselves in that never seen test like that before. So one really cool event we have coming up is uh April 29th. We've partnered with Tracy Champion um with the RWE, and she's putting on She's done a great job of putting on events where then we can participate. So the 29th we'll be going to the fairgrounds. There'll be trades represented there that day. So, we're bringing the students from both buildings so that they can get some hands-on looks at different opportunities. And the entire reason that we are able to do these things is because of the relationships that we're building. So, I know that we have a lot of
022events, but I thought it would be remiss if I didn't say that the other things that we're doing are constant communication with our families and our students. Our one-click admit is uh the kickoff of the state of Illinois, and we decided that we're going to allow our students to start applying for college without ever having to submit an application, pay a fee, or submit test scores, uh and they can do that all with their transcripts. So, that's something that we've been heavily Speaking of communicating with our families, making sure that our students are doing that. Working with Link Crew, working with one-on-one with students, going over financial award letters to say how which school is the best fit financially for me, and how do I understand that? Uh supporting teachers in the classroom, supporting students
023at whatever walk of life they're at, and just continuing to build those relationships with our community members, including colleges, representatives, and anybody that wants to be partners in these students' lives to help figure out what's next for them. So, lots of stuff going on. Any questions or any questions? You know, you know, the event that we put on a couple Tuesdays ago in March, you know, they tried it the year before, it was still kind of new to them, and then 90 people made something like that. They had a lot of positive feedback from from parents that they really liked the program. They continue to grow that college career fair when we go there. It it's there's a ton of information for kids. They have a tremendous amount of stuff there. I mean, just going
024through the college fair is great. I mean, and they have in the building you walk into with like a welding thing going on. I know they're working hard to get a lot of different opportunities uh for kids. So, appreciate all their hard work. Do we have any questions or comments? Thoughts? That's it. >> If there's nothing else, thank you. Okay, we'll move on to our next item then. Our next item is number 4. This is the old alley way on Elm Street. First order of business is a consideration of the 2016-2017 paper bid. So, we put this bid out for paper. Um, we kind of realized that we got upset that we got the We thought this was going to be a different process and a different paper. We were just going to explain a
025little bit here. This is a new bid? We didn't use the last bid. We didn't use the last bid because we didn't use the last bid or not. Yeah, it's a different bid right here right now. All right, were you looking at something I'm looking at? I know. I said I know it's exactly what we used last time. I don't believe we are reusing them. Okay. All right. Uh, there's nothing else in there. Uh, there's a suggested motion on the 190 Elm Street. Okay, move to approve the 2016-2017 paper bid through Veritiv Paper for a total of $71,713.75. Second. Second. Mr. Gilmore seconded by Dr. Bidwell. Roll call, please. Mr. Gilmore? Yes. Dr. Bidwell? Yes. Mr. Perici? Yes. Mr. Hummel? Yes. Mr. Hedley? >> Yes. Mr. Misuraca? Yes. Mr. DuFresne? Yes. Okay. Next item would
026be approval of the bus purchase. I am Jamie Misuraca. Pull that from here. So, I'm Jamie Misuraca. Pull that from here. We'll bring that up later again. So, we'll pass that. Um the next item is the approval of a contract for community solar subscription. We talked a couple of years ago um when the state started awarding our businesses solar field and solar subscriptions. And a component of that that you know, they were a school partner. And so, the opportunity came a couple of years ago. We really had to go through a number of avenues to try to find the right thing we have now. Found one. And we really have kept in touch a couple of times. We really just kind of get a company agreement. We don't do anything. If they buy energy we
027use, offset however they have to do by state statute. Um Obviously, the community receives We We thought we could a little bit of money. Do you have any questions or comments regarding these solar subscriptions? I know I talked to the coordinator today about this, but where it says it allows up to 10% of the bill credit savings, right? Is that our bill 10% of our I mean, I don't I'm still not quite quite clear as to what how that works. Yeah. So, the contract the contract purchase and sale agreement between NexGen Solar and District 200. And we look here. So, the dollar amount is smaller than what we buy and buy and buy. The total amount that we get >> We got to find people that have a use for it and be able to
028get that tariff and that credit down. So to your point, because the ability to terminate anything that that's our protection, too. So we don't you know, if in a year or two we don't see this and it's not exactly what we were getting into, we can terminate it against the still cost of it all. Thank you for your You would get all of this. We really worked really hard on this. All right. Are there any other questions or concerns? Regarding the approval of contract for community solar subscription. If not, there's a suggested motion on page 123 of the material. Motion to approve and enter into a community solar subscription agreement with Next Era uh Solar LLC for a term of 20 years. Estimated bill credit savings rate of 10%. Second. Motion made by Mr. Hedley
029and seconded by Mr. Perrucci. Roll call, please. Mr. Hedley? Yes. Mr. Perrucci? Yes. Mr. Miceli? Yes. Mr. Homo? Yes. Dr. Ferris? Abstain. Dr. Bidwell? Yes. Mr. Gilmore? Yes. Okay. Uh next item on our agenda then is the update on school start times. We talked about a couple of years. We currently have the calendar that we changed our time. We can change it. So the board knows that the calendar can come back. So we spent a lot of time this year and we're looking at what is possible. And you know, they and we want to know where you're at before we can really start. So what we currently have is possible. Probably pushing it all the way back to about 7:45. That could be doable but we might minutes and find a change in it. We
030don't know. That's what we got. Uh we can explore that for sure. We want to give you the minutes to look at it. And just give you the boys with it before we take any action. So we're looking at delaying the service Possibility of delaying the start of elementary by 25 minutes. Yeah. And secondary I think would be by 5. So high school would be by 5 minutes. High school would be pushed back by 5 minutes. And during that we got our 25 minutes including we have to put periods in and elementary kids in the bus together. Which in most cases is common but very uncommon for our district. That is so messed up. That's what we got there. Okay. So my concern is my son. All right. So I'll share them now publicly. I
031was really kind of on the fence with this. I was on the committee for the schedule back during COVID. And I have some pretty strong feelings about the early dismissal for elementary. I don't personally have a problem with early starts but I do have concerns about little kids coming home and parents not being able to find child care and potentially being on their own and that kind of stuff. So the solution that my father was and I don't remember the exact time but that the kids could stay till a certain time if the parents needed it because we do get out so early with elementary which I thought was like a great you know offer and solution. So that kind of eased my mind a little bit with that. I think we're not really pushing
032it back that much for the hassle that it's causing. Like we're being 25 minutes. It's not like they're starting at 8:00 or, you know, they're getting out at 3:00. They're still getting out at 2:15 and the year is out at 2:05. So, I guess kind of my thought process is is it worth all of the chaos that we're going to do with like reorganizing things with new bus routes and longer routes for starting and putting, you know, pre-K through fifth on the same bus, which as a parent who recently went through that is a little intimidating, you know, thinking about your three- and four-year-old going on the same bus with fifth graders. Um it just doesn't I don't know. Like it just doesn't seem like it's the benefit outweigh the cons to me, but um
033I mean that's just kind of where my brain was at right now on it. So, I don't know what you guys think. I have the same concern with the pre-K on the bus with fifth graders. I think personally now that the little kids will be able to associate on the bus with them. So, if we we do this, we're going to keep the associates cuz I tell you what, when my kids get on the bus, they go in a line. They go up really quick. And if I have a pre-K and a fifth grader, you know, maybe Yeah, you would have a bad year. I mean, you know, some stuff on the Oh, no. like one time. Like they keep the little kids up front and associate >> But I think I'd be a normal
034Yeah, but I actually did that's the I mean, it's done most places that do it together, but we don't. And that's that's a that's a good point. So, we we try to give them social morals, for sure. I don't think they actually have them, but they have morals, but they push them together, which is honestly a whole topic in itself. What was the reasoning if when this happened with the the uh pre-K >> I don't know. I mean that that period seems quite normal. I didn't even know that when we started originally it was kind of only good 90 years again. I think we did a lot we did a lot back to the district. Yeah. Yeah. Again We're going to go up to the 90 years. We're looking at we're looking at three main
035options. Um But it's an easier way in. And we are We will be experiencing some kids and I respect that tremendously. And you know, it's not getting up what we have there. I'm fine with that. We have the tail. I think it's going to be looked at it cuz we know we're sending one. But I think the aspect of this thing is void. Michelle Payne is a a lot of child custody in that age. I get it and and we're we're presenting it and I respect Michelle Payne and that's why I understand. So the question I think we need to answer right now is do we want the is the administration going to need to do or do we want to explore further um the creation of new start times and I'm so far I've
036heard there's not a lot of interest in doing that. So is anybody interested in really delving into this any further than what they've already done? I I guess I would be okay to hear more feedback from parents or families. Just because I've heard complaints about start times. I don't know that I have enough information to make a decision. What would you say that the complaints are solved by 25 minutes? I mean closer to 8 those feel quite a burden. Yeah, right. I'm sure I have to walk. I No, go ahead. I I think it's a step in the right direction and that's why I will say my thought is why don't we go with this for a year and then we re-evaluate. And if we we can make that adjustment further, can we do that?
037We've got a lot of hard work in this already and this is a step in the right direction in my perspective. Is it perfect? No, and I agree with uh Michelle naturally as well, but it's better than our current schedule and it's 25 minutes less. 25 minutes less actually in the north. in the north. So, I think it's it's a good thing. It's not perfect. So, I would support this plan. My my concern is still with the little kids getting picked up at school buses. That's a safety issue and it's a lot of issues. And my thing is saying that to your point that you say that most districts do this already. Kindergarten I'm not I I can't do kindergarten for sure. I don't know about pre-K. I I can't I I don't think we
038would we would want to pre-K population in many, but kindergarten population will face both kindergarten and pre-K to get together. So, pre-K maybe has the the the really young pre-K for sure. What's the administration's recommendation? Well, we don't I mean I keep putting putting the work to the energy putting it on the people and we push points on both sides. Are we all for or against our recommendation on this? I think you know, they have their points out. Michelle's probably in kindergarten for 25 minutes to get back to this. Um but I think their five minutes in there so the board answers, you know, is it is it worth to have some for 25 minutes that we're not afraid to talk about? Do you know how much longer a student would potentially be on a
039bus with the route changes? The the actual route changes I mean we we have our long routes now for our long routes then. Not all of them are less than 25 minutes I don't know. So, it the they're not going to be they're not going to be allowed to come into our building right now. Now, for students, could that change? Sure. Right? I mean, you know, we got to get them out from Crystal Lake to Cary in any way. That's an hour, right? From one way to the other. So, we already have kids on the bus for a while. Can we walk them a little longer? Potentially. But, you know, we're we're doing we're doing a great job on this. It's not longer than it was at the beginning. It can't be longer than an
040hour. You know, I don't want something that's over an hour or two. Because it can't be longer than an hour. So, it won't it won't be longer than an hour on the bus now. I I can give you a breakdown of 6% of your kids that spend just a little more time than now on the bus, but the longest stops won't be longer than they are now. Any other questions, comments, concerns? If we were to turn this down and send it back, um there's not time to make changes for next year. Is there any way at this point? I I'm going to make that We can do whatever you want. I mean, I think I think if you kick it around a little longer, I think you probably would kick going to the year after
041for sure. Yeah. But again, we don't want to it's it's a tough process, so we just to to look at all of it. We want to get to it earlier, but the only way we could could do it, I think, you know, you know, you want to do it now or later. But, I also the guys that are on the other side of it, I think getting feedback from everyone and thinking about it and getting a direction of how we want to move forward. You know, I I totally agree with you. It's too long for child care. It's like Michelle said, you know, we if we go much longer for next year, um I I hate to put people in that position of not changing Our next board meeting is the 14th. Is that enough
042sufficient time if we were to decide to do something to to implement? What do you Sure. Yeah. All right. Yeah, thank you very much for that. Our business says that the one that was posted and made available to the public says that this is discussion only and no formal board action is required by the bylaws would prevent somebody who's not interested in presenting something that's the driver at this point to attend. I don't think we can even have a vote on anything as long as it says that at this point. So, here's what I want to suggest that we do. And then after this my suggestion is I will proceed. Um we're going to put it on the agenda for our next board meeting on the 14th. Okay? Um it will be there without that
043line and item there just discussion only so that we as long as we identify that it's there I guess it's an action item. Can you give me your line item? Yeah, all right. So, let's do that. If you have questions or concerns, raise them with Dr. Bowman. If you can get us a little more information on what you you know what this would entail in terms of how many um routes would be affected, you know, where would we be compared to where are we compared to other districts in terms of things like putting preschoolers with schools and that stuff so that we can prepare that for We'll have we'll leave it open to ask questions. If anybody from the member of the public wishes to come and address the board at that point, it's on
044here as a subject that they can bring up during public comment. They can let us know what they want us to want to say. And then we hear any action because we don't have a recommendation that we're asking them to make a motion that this is just a motion. We will vote on a motion if somebody brings it up next time. If nobody brings it up, then it will we won't have a motion to deal with. If there is a motion, then we will vote on it and decide what to do from there. Okay? Does that sound like like a reasonable procedure for dealing with this issue by enforcement? Do we have any objections to that? I think it's fine if you get changed to what I suggested. I don't have any uh My only
045concern would be I don't know that but if I was voting tonight I'd probably vote for the change. Um but I really like to know hear from families that this would affect because that would Well, they're welcome to come to the meeting. I I I understand that but I just feel like I don't know I don't know if it's right to make a vote like without having feedback from our families. Well, I Like do we need to like is it appropriate to do some sort of survey or info survey or something to see if families would view this as positive for them. I think if you go down that route where it's 100% rolled out for next year, which is fine by me but I I think that that would make this hard for people.
046For example, just as an example, you know, as a mom of little kids, I am already my schedule is set and I'm scheduling into August of next year and I have that focused on the school calendar. So, um I think you know, especially where changing stuff around those for the littles like and those are the parents that are really navigating child care. So, they're fine with that. So, we have to be really conscious of that. So, where does that leave us? I mean I think if we're going to do a survey, then this is the next year conversation in my personal opinion. And I think if we're going to do what Carl presented, then I think we can see where that leads. That we can talk about that but The motion may be to take
047a survey. I personally don't think a survey is necessary in this myself but I'm one person and there's seven people on the board and you guys have more than a variety any time. So, um you know, my vote is the same as the one that counts here so if we're having that as the motion, I'll withdraw it. take a survey and find out. We can have that discussion at the next time the town hall is open. I think that's fair enough to say that if we have a survey we're looking at next year anyway, so it won't it won't cause much of a delay if we take action next week next time we'll be able to implement protocols for your students that want to do that. That's kind of my thought on that. So the
048next meeting is April 4th at 7:00 p.m. Okay, does that sound like it would work for a solution for everybody? Okay. All right, anything else on the update to school start times? Okay, then that's all of our business. Are there any sign-ups for any reports or any committee matters? Are there any any any reports since our last meeting? No, the AI meeting AI committee met on the 5th of March and unfortunately I had a conference and wasn't able to attend. So Mike went, but I think what we're doing right now is basically implementing the next steps on that, which is the teaching the teachers uh workshops on the various aspects of AI. Yeah, one thing I want to mention now and there is that our current condition is that we might be teachers that want
049to do some professional development this year. So we created a self in-house professional development class and today we have 118 staff members signed up. And like I already have our micro-credential program, which is one of our current projects. So typically you do those uh Yes, about 30. So 30 is a really good sign for one of those classes this coming 18. So that's a big far, so I just want to let you know we're really excited about staff cuz you know, when you think about teaching staff in the classroom, it's pretty it's one of the first teaching in the classroom. So I think it's about 50 classes this spring to learn about AI. It's a lot of our chat. We just going to go over the agenda and different things. So, I really like that.
050That's the activity. Are there any activity reports? Okay, entertain a motion to adjourn. So moved. Okay, we'll go with Dr. Ferris. Second. We'll go with uh Dr. Ferris. Motion by Dr. Ferris, second by Mr. Miselli. Roll call, please. Dr. Ferris? Yes. Mr. Miselli? Yes. Dr. Bidwell? Yes. Mr. Prezi? Yes. Mr. Roman? Yes. Mr. Hedley? Yes. Mr. Gilmore? Yes. Two two yeses. All right, so the motion is carried. Motion to adjourn tonight? Um yeah.
