Moving on. Staff comments. Are there any staff comments at this time? Board comments. Here's invitation from the foundation uh to attend the award ceremony on the 16th, which
is Thursday. It's usually a pretty pretty fun to kind of see what happens with the money that there is and what the interesting thing that our teachers and staff can do with a little extra fun. So you get a chance I encourage you to go um and hear what they're hearing what is sub. [Music] Okay. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Sorry. Thank you. Okay. Yeah. Heat. [Music] I used spring. We have our PLC twice a month focus on that. We will dive into each module and do some backwards with the teacher and instructional coaches and we're focusing on the daily tickets for small group instruction. Okay. So the focus for all of us with that is to use to differentiate small group instruction and we are continuing to use the core program to reserve students. Of
course we have a great time which is what I need and some will be in [Music] Elementary research Yeah. So we 15 you know those facts, you know, even so having a conversation with someone about strength and fluency last week. Um, and I just I'm this is just my own experience as a parent. I was curious kind of the thought process behind everything in first grade back during co my daughter was doing extra math which she hated but really upped her fluency right she got really good just knowing those facts really was there some thought process behind doing spring math but versus extra math that's something they can do at home as well or kind of what was the main the working was that again you know Yes. We are there. Let's bring program that
those skills are going to build us in the shortterm and long term. [Music] >> Great question. Great question. >> Um, we need to To maximize we have to provide us center special features restaurant. This is all spaces. So we are using between spaces and different activities. taxes and we end with success. We describe those five steps. to how much they learn and how they react to um so um here for example in the cafeteria. So we have different expectations for different activities that is activities that we do at schools. >> Thank you. Before we left, does anybody have any questions regarding just the elementary level um school group? >> Okay. All right. So, I'm going to talk a little bit about middle school and what we're doing with math and literacy. So, first of all,
math, our goal is really to support all students, no matter what level they're at. We program and block math as well as our math class we had for years now. So really just targeting the different areas um groups of students who have different needs in that basic our teachers are able to run those small groups and really fill those gaps. And lastly, we have Tuesday question Friday student discourse talking about using questioning which is really a deeper question. Next up as far as literacy is concerned the comprehension piece. So we've been starting to do a little bit more is having students annotate and mark the text on their for assessments on the assessments. So it's really literally students identify both here in the Texas answer. Um again students do this big at our schools. Um
so we seminars and philosophical chairs on a semester basis in all our academic classes specifically literacy and then social studies we're trying to bridge that gap between writing and social studies. So we started to implement DBQs document based questions. So essentially documents they bucket that evidence into three different groups and then they created essay based on that evidence. Um and then those rubrics that are used in those essays are directly high rubrics. And then as far as social emotional um is concerned all of our schools to make sure that all of our middle school this year is our start year one program and this year we are using way. So we had four group of teachers pilot this last year and overly found that kids are a lot more engaged during this one big changes
in this compared to what we used in previous years is really just talking about how our actions impact others and I think at the middle school level rather than talking about your feelings and talking about how you impact others is a little bit more to our middle schoolers really successful through this first quarter um which we had last year as well we're continuing to tweet to make sure that that's a successful implementation with our eighth grade paired up with our sixth graders. Um, so we keep getting better and better with that implementation. So our eighth grade is also working with our sixth graders um to make sure that they're feeling good and feel welcome every sense of belonging which is just a couple weeks ago and really asking kids you know on a scale of
one you feel like you belong in school and also ask kids whether they have trusted adults and a peer in the school there is look at that and see you know hey this it doesn't have a trusted in the building and that allows our teachers to really hone in on that student and and try to make sure that they build a relationship with that student. So that's middle school in a nutshell. Does anybody have any questions regarding the middle school approved by other [Music] talk a little about high school at this point we'll start with M this year by focusing on just how small group instruction skills were trying to identify areas for growth and work into those areas. We are our journey with just making sure we're hearing more of discourse and just making
sure we're talking using that vocabulary um and using assessments to really ship. You'll see us working on things like affects and that impact is how you might use a certain time support and the impact inside that piece and also I'll be act classes this year just to continue instruction those key areas and just get our students completely the confidence to be successful on the ACT team. When it comes to social science and we are social to work on specific skill based readings, they're both content, but really diving into reading and complexity of some of those tests looking specifically primary sources that show up often. Um so those are skill based readings every science we're contining charts tables and graphs and just draw conclusions we're really moving this year into use the claims that we have
are supported by different pieces of evidence strategies that um pre right off the gate see what's importing critical pieces into very parts specifically and then show your writing and keep your very logical and focused. So, so high school on this right now. Any questions? Does anybody have any questions regarding the um school approve class for high school or comments? [Music] Does anybody have any questions or comments regarding the overall anything regarding school? Thank you very much for your summaries. We appreciate you coming and letting us know what's happening and seeing how the strategic plan is put into action. Okay. Uh business award new business. The first item for new business is the improvement of our intergovernmental cooperation agreement for mutual assistance in response to crisis in the public schools county. This is that for schools
in the county. Uh anything else to Heat. Heat. Even if we can do this year, but um you know anything else I think. Okay. Does anybody have any questions or comments regarding these are going to agreement? Looks like it's $250. Yeah. [Music] All right. Anybody have any questions regarding the intergovernmental agreement? If not, there's a suggested motion on page 259 materials. Move to approve an intergovernmental cooperation agreement for mutual assistance in response to crisises in the public schools of Mckenry County. >> Second motion by Mr. Henry Hedley. Seconded by Dr. Bidwell. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Hedley. >> Yes. >> Dr. Bidwell. >> Yes. >> Mr. Peruy. >> Yes. >> Mr. Homer. >> Yes. >> Mr. Miselli. >> Yes. >> Dr. Ferris. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gilmore. >> Yes. Okay, that's all business committee reports
committed committee reports since our last meeting. I will report the AI committee on September 25th to find out [Music] what's kind of open on January being a day of having uh the teachers um just training AI and what they need and what and training in their various AI programs and uh they are doing a survey right now in terms of some of the needs and so forth for that presentation. So that'll be on January 5th as I understand it and um that's all I have to report on it. Any other any other committee reports? All right. If there's nothing else, I would entertain a motion to journ motion by Dr. Seconded by Dr. Bidwell. Roll call, please.
