consent agenda thank you so much I also like to make a change to item for presentations for us presentations and reports um would like to add that it be a presentation and discussion I know that there is members of the community that wanted to do that so I want to make sure that we discuss after the presentation um with the board so not leaving a change for that I think not so many one else yeah roll call please Mrs Walsh Mrs daldo Burger all right Mr Bauer hi Mr Snyder hi Mrs Green hi all right we have a meeting on to number D public participation um we have a couple of these this evening thank you all for attending um and being present today um all meetings of the board and board appointed committees are

open to the public in order for the Board of Education to fulfill this obligation to complete planned agenda the planned agenda an effective and efficient fashion a maximum of 30 minutes of public participation may be permitted at each regular Board of Education meeting each person addressing the Board of Education shall give his name his or her name address and organization representative if any and pertinent background information if several people wish to speak each person is allotted three minutes until at the time of 30 minutes is used during that period no person may speak twice until all desire to speak have had an opportunity opportunity to do so persons Desiring more time should submit their request in writing to the board of education office or email at public dot comment at gocruisers.org seven days prior to

the scheduled meeting the period of public participation may be extended by a majority vote of the board members present and voting please remember that the law prohibits discussion of specific employees or their job performance at a public meeting state law does allow for discussions by board members regarding employees and executive sessions of the board so our very first person that we have we're going to ask that you would come to this Podium and you're going to make sure you turn on the mic we want to ensure that we catch everything for closed captioning so Mr Brian casterly hello I'm uh Brian casterly I live at 385 Main Street in Groveport Ohio um I have a son that goes to uh the high school and there's a lot of issues going on with regards to the

high school but what I came to talk about is uh where our rating is with regards to our school in Franklin County there's 14 or 16 school districts and we are currently on the niche rating at number 14. um I think that's kind of a place where we wouldn't want to be in the state they rank things a little bit different and they have like five different categories uh the main categories I see that have to do with students and uh their uh what they're doing and how well they perform basically these are performance or the achievement early literacy and graduation and most importantly would be graduation I hope everybody comes here to go uh to get you know graduate and uh right now we have out of one out of five we have a

one that's the absolute lowest you can be for graduation in Franklin County we are tied with Columbus for only having a one rating on graduation the other two are early literacy and achievement and we have a a two on both of those two out of five um the other ones are called uh Gap closing and progress these really have little to do with uh you know the students performance and more to do with like uh the teaching and reforms and stuff like that and we do rank high on those uh we got a four and a five which puts us out of the state of Ohio around 600 about 610 we're ranked 451. which is also pretty low um those performance things I uh really don't see those as being um things that we should

be concentrating on I think we should be concentrating more on the graduation and uh as I did a little bit of study on it I think the reason why is uh some of the things that we're teaching um one of the classes that we have in the high school is called foundation for race um I'm not sure if anybody's familiar with if I see there's a lot of students out here is anybody taking that class Mr Council we think you would just make sure you address the board please with yourself okay I appreciate it thank you all right well let me tell you some things about that class that are a little bit disturbing that I think uh well it it's a I guess a social studies class but it's found on a book called

stamped that is has a lot of stuff about history a lot of it's misinformation um there's stuff in there that I uh would like to share I don't know it teaches history like I said a revolutionary war it says that Revolutionary War was because of for one this is just one of the examples there's a lot of them but it says Revolutionary War was because uh Great Britain stopped slavery and America kept slavery and so they since they wanted to keep slavery that's why they started the Revolutionary War I hope everybody knows that that's not true the reason why there was a revolutionary Wars for Independence but that's in the book there's also quotes in that book that have to do with uh a lot of different things one of them that kind of bothered

me was uh you know they omit things Angela Davis was a uh a vice presidential candidate back in 1980 when President Reagan was uh running for president and uh um they put in there that the reason why she didn't have any air time is because uh I guess Ronald Reagan was racist and we're a racist Nation they completely omit that that she wasn't running on the Democratic ticket or the Republican ticket she was running on the Communist ticket 30 seconds and they never say anything about her being a communist in the uh uh in the book there is a lot of other things in there that I wish I had more time to share but I really think that there's some important issues with regards to security that I think we need to talk about

now I know that when that uh class was uh brought in uh no one got to see the curriculum all we were told by this uh uh the school uh Teachers Association is that time they can I just finish this point Thank you Mr cashley we have a other list of folks if you would like to send us an email with the remaining of your notes who can do that I appreciate it we just want to make sure we give everyone enough time a Kindle forward please good evening my name is Kendall Ford I'm at 44.07 Trotter Drive in Obetz Ohio um I am the aunt of cash king and Marvin Sloan I also am a Sunday school teacher at the St Mary's in Groveport um with all of almost all of our students going

to Groveport um we are very heavily concerned on the violence and education downfall for our district we have called the high school several times to get information or a tour with no response I had to go online to get basic questions answered and learning more about the different issues that growth poor is having was very shocking and sad according to public schoolreview.com Groveport is in the bottom 50 percent with reading at 46 percent in math at 14 percent they're listed in the bottom 50 for graduation rates uh usnews.com provided a score of 25.36 out of a hundred greatschools.com listed an overall grade for our school district at 40 percent taking account scores student progress college readiness and achievement gaps I'm speaking on behalf of fellow parents and members of our community and we find this

unacceptable and we need to help these children how can we expect them to achieve and be members of society in our community if we cannot provide them with basics of security and education there's a lacking education preparedness and continued violence this will extend to our community as a whole I do understand it's not fair to come to you guys with a problem without a solution but I'm a member of this community and I am here to help as best I can but currently we feel that there's a lack of communication and transparency coming from the school my boys love Groveport they are Groveport their families here their friends are here and our church is here we don't want to take them out of Groveport but I do not feel comfortable sending them to school knowing

that I might have to get a call that there's another shooting another fight and they're not going to get a good education it's not fair to them I don't know about you but my job I need basic reading skills and basically 30 seconds and that's important and I think it's important for all of the children in this community so right now we're looking at pulling them from this District but I'm begging you because they don't want to go so please help them thank you thank you Joshua Hawk did I say I'm sorry how do you pronounce your last name how thank you Miss Howe my apologies I am a resident of Groveport and I have three children within your school district I have spoke before um basically tonight I'm here on behalf of my children

Mike scared children to just kind of get an update on what's going on I realize that maybe there's things going on behind the scenes with other committees things that we're not always privy to that I do still believe needs to be a little bit more transparent throughout the district um when things happen or if there's a meeting you know I think much like the board meeting we can have it you can watch from home to see what's talked about discuss that type of thing um since the fall and other school districts having issues as well and we all know what happened in Pickerington last week and and that's another thing my kids are like here we are with Pickering something happened in Pickerington and then nothing still happening at our school and why and my

kids are asking but they're the ones that are forced to go to school every day in fact last week because of the pictures that went around I was called immediately from the school or from my children at school please come get us we don't what's going on we're sure we're going to go into lockdown whether it be a hard lockdown or a soft lockdown whatever we don't want to be here and that I think is where our education is hurting our kids they can't go to school and relax they can't go to school and learn there's too much going on because there's not enough of that reassurance when they walk through those doors I'm hoping from the looks of it that we are in those steps and I've reassured my kids about that tonight which

they are more than thrown about would love to be here but have other priorities than are tired of being stressed with things that they cannot change um with that being said um I do realize that you know as mentioned we are low are ranking our scores everything and I will say that I do feel that as our children feel safer as there is more acknowledgment that you know from our children understanding you can't go to school and you can't fight and you can't do this and you have to see the repercussions and they have to show these to the kids that then it might stop it might slow down and our education and and the the scores will come up so I am hopeful for that I have to be because I have three kids

and at this point we're all they're all graduating from Groveport so I have to hope for the best um I will say that I do think it is um every parent's right you know it's being taught I do definitely encourage all of our parents to look into the education that's giving especially if those classes are mandatory or elective classes um and I also just want to say again please be more transparent with our kids let's not talk about how hoodies are bad for you and don't wear your hood let's talk about the picture that's going around and calm everybody down for the day and just make sure the messaging is correct for our kids because we're trying to do all we can do we're trying to watch their education I'm trying to watch crazy thank

you thank you ma'am John Kirchner hello I'm John kirschner I live on Winchester Pike in the township and I'm here uh to speak on behalf of the American Legion but then also uh on a personal item so um it is time for boys state and girls State and I have provided information to Mr Smathers and and Jeff and uh it's a really cool thing and I don't know if you know last year we had one of the boys from Groveport uh elected to uh Governor boys state that's a really big deal so there's like 1100 boys and a similar amount of number of girls that go to this program I know uh Mr Smathers and many of you are already familiar with it but if you're not um the legion sponsors it and the first

day they elect officials and they set up an entire government if you are elected governor boy State you hang out with the governor of Ohio if you are elected to the Supreme Court the justices sit with you you set up a city you run the city and you actually sit with the city of officials so it's a real cool opportunity we do this in June so we'll be getting with the counselors and you have the information to contact us and look forward to another fine year there so that's the the legion part and then um I just wanted to address I got my attention in the news with critical race Theory which honestly I can say I was blissfully ignorant too but with the news stories I dug into this stamped book and this 1619

book to my chagrins and I don't often agree with Bill Maher on many things and I wouldn't usually quote him but he's done a wonderful job here and he States 1619 displays America as unredeemable make no mistake these books you are we are reviewing the stamped in 1619 are radical and wildly inaccurate they teach our students they that they are oppressed or oppressors based on their skin color not their actions or their attitudes Scholars of all Races seem to agree these books and teachings are not academically sound they are divisive and they are pessimistic Stant teaches that Noah cursed ham made in black and turned him into a Slave I know enough of you people to know you know the Bible doesn't say that Pam wasn't black that was something created by white supremacists which

is now being flipped to promote the CRT agenda so our parents students Community Trust you to deliver a quality of 30 seconds thank you as you work together to teach history please pick worthwhile and accurate material to do so it is the least you can do for us thank you Harold McCary hello my name is Harold mccarrick 4830 Elmont place I've spoken a lot the past six months I want to continue that on safety I want to start by my Church Gateway my pastor Edwards he wants to uh donate money that goes towards the weapons detection and loans for the police that information has been given to miss Walsh we counsel teens in this community and they've made him aware that there are guns in our schools we've heard parents say this last time students

have been very clear you guys had them last spring we've had three incidents this year I want to go back to November 17th Miss gray you at the end of the meeting you said something immediately needs to happen at the very least security guards and wands for our police it's been three months uh Mr Bowers you stated you heard us loud and clear December 14th you guys had a group of students did a great presentation at the end of the presentation they made it clear that they were they were scared to go to school and they welcomed Detectives weapons detection Ms dalberger you stated to them that you hear them and that we need to listen to them Mr Snyder you have said that that will break the trust between staff and students that trust

is broken between the parents before Christmas break an article came out in the messenger where our police department has stated anybody can walk the halls and see who runs the show this gives me no faith that my son will be protected next year after all the videos I've seen I've stated before that all I've ever done is working locked up in independent living programs your kids are going through a lot but you don't have the levels of security they need you know I come from a big city school where weapons detection is just one labor it's security guards it's enforce the dress code which you guys do not bring in intervention Specialists street workers you said you have uh connections with the Buckeye Ranch I was at the Hannah nail center these kids who are

repeating if they have probation officers case workers social workers have them do anger management take them down to the Orion prison and do second thoughts where we took our kids our school is vying there's no way able to put it I mean I don't know why we're shying around this I really expected you guys to do something before you went on your little retreat the article that came on the messenger was wordplay the only things I took away from that was now we have somebody watching the security cameras now the police have permission to actually do an arrest watching the video from last week we had one police officer on a landing with seven kids brawling the only people I saw go to help him was a teacher run up the stairs get slammed against

a railing pepper sprayed and almost fell down the stairs only the other person I saw to help was a basketball coach shoving kids down the stairs who are our security guards because what I'm told the district tells teachers not to intervene it's their liability who was CPI trained if that teacher is not CPI trained legally he can't put his hands on a kid and that basketball coach is aggressively pushing kids down the stairs if that's your security guard he needs about a train your athletic director who's standing there the principal was standing there we need security guards real security guards the aid the police officers to Aid the teachers Aid the coaches so they can do their job you had a teacher two teachers last year one broken arm one broke a leg the teacher

Union needs to step up and protect these teachers also these our academics will not go up until these kids feel safe and they can focus on their school that's it I've been in this district for 13 years we have not come off at choice for one of those years the lowest graduation rate these kids are traumatized every day I'm sure thank you Elizabeth Simcox Elizabeth Sim Cox hello my name is Elizabeth simcock I live at 4452 dry caught Street Groveport Ohio I am here because of this board's deaf ear to the hearing impaired this board has been displayed a complete lack of care or compassion for hearing impaired of this District the board voted to discontinue recordings of the board meeting thus ending The Helpful hearing assistance used by myself and other hearing impaired constituents

in this District the format was useful and the closed captions were more accurate than what is used today currently closed captions for the hearing impaired is often not provided at times captions will appear Midway through a board meeting and often inaccurate toggling the caption option on YouTube will not cause the captions to appear it means this district has deliberately turned off that option it is a free option I don't understand why you've done it at the last meeting I was at and attended the captioning did not appear until Midway through when board member Walsh requested the captions appear afterwards by talking in full disclosure board member Walsh is my sister talking with my sister another attendee who was here at this board meeting or at that board meeting came up and thanked my sister for

asking for those captions to be turned on I ask that this board direct the superintendent or whomever is tasked with letting setting up YouTube to please toggle that Ox pin back on this is free service provided by YouTube and thus poses no cost to the district doing just this one simple request will permit all videos posted on YouTube to include closed captions for the benefits of your constituents like myself who is hearing impaired also as an added bonus it will eliminate the need to use the vastly and accurate captions the board currently provides at the bottom of the board meeting screen thus allowing the pictures that are broadcasted to appear larger and easily readable thank you for your time thank you [Applause] oh it's an IDE recognitions I know our cheerleading team needs to go

thank you everyone who spoke at public participation this one thank you foreign we have a wonderful celebration tonight and actually I think there's probably some additional accolades we'll learn about tonight that happened even since we put this on the board agenda so I know we've been patiently waiting young ladies I'm gonna uh Mr Smathers and I think you're gonna have Trinity come up and recognize our Trilogy team a good evening it's a great pleasure that I introduce the Grow Port Madison High School cheer competition team they earned a buckeye national championship you know State their state qualifiers they have also that's awesome [Applause] uh they earned a bid at Virginia Beach uh to compete in Virginia Beach I believe it's called one world's competition uh the next steps for them is this Saturday they will

she's also a Groveport graduate so she's an alumni coming back and giving back to the community and I will tell you that the last time that we qualified for States I was the volunteer coach for our team so that's kind of a little fun fact um I'll just introduce the girls and um we'll start with my angel Cochran [Applause] Jada Hubbard [Applause] delasia Lindsay this is the first year delicious competing so she has jumped into the waters with both feet we love that uh we have Olivia Williams she's one of our freshmen we have Sanaya buck [Applause] rayanna Theory [Applause] Tierra Jones I'm Asia Beau [Applause] Mayana Yancey [Applause] modesty Cunningham [Applause] Braylon James and nylea Miller this is your 20 22 2023 competition team and of course my coach [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we would

uh I'd like to see our website have them in the banner because I was looking forward today and couldn't find anything about this on our website and I think we need to recognize them on that again congratulations and Coach you know if you need anything as I stated let us know congratulations to all of you foreign yes ma'am and two okay um next we're gonna do recognition uh this is a recognition of black history month or African-American history month is celebrating the United States from February 1st through March 1st Black History Month has been celebrating the United States since 1962 when Carter G Woodson established the Negro history week Black History Month has celebrated every February in homage of the achievements of African-Americans who have shaped American history from Buffalo Soldiers to the first black

President and Vice President of the United States of America the association for the study of African-American life history shows the second week in February in 1926 to celebrate this week is symbolic and that was the same week of the birthdays of former President Abraham Lincoln and Fred Frederick Douglass and escaped slave and prominent Abolitionist Movement activist Black History Month provides an opportunity to highlight the unique contributions of the American of the African-American community that have too often been overlooked the Board of Education observes and honors Black History Month and encourages Educators students and families to learn about the Heritage and achievements of African Americans it's just a recognition it's not a motion for reports in the presentation and discussion okay um our presentation tonight is as you know um we have been doing many things

related to school safety we had two special meetings we're having school safety we are getting ready to send our survey out this week we've made many immediate short and Midterm changes we identify as the long-term changes at one possibility to do would be weapons or metal detectors we had a vendor coming out tonight a company evolved and I think Mr Reed if you're going to do any additional introduction but they're going to do a demonstration and explain what the evolved system does operationally and allow us to learn more about this as an option numbers locations what the capabilities are and any answer any other questions we have so uh Mr answer if there's nothing else to add um our folks I don't know who's going to talk uh but we will need someone to be

at the microphone to make sure that it can be heard and gets on our closed caption I'll let you introduce your yourself and your team thank you uh first of all I apologize for my voice it's long gone I don't know where it went my name is Kevin Rabinowitz I work for evolve technology on my team over here is Kevin Everly he's uh he's part of our education team John Jolly who's our vice president of North American Sales and Adam Hahn who is part of our technical sales and solutions um so I'm gonna restart I'm going to talk a little bit about the the product in the company a little bit Kevin's going to go through an overview of what his role with evolving and what he's done with other school districts around the country

and then Adam is going to demo the system over there uh and kind of show everyone what it's designed to do but first and foremost this is called the Evolve Express we've been around as a company for 10 years to paint a little picture of this technology and kind of where it comes from the founder of our company created really the first bag screener that you put your bags on to that go underneath airplanes and it's looking for you know dangerous weapons explosives things like that and he essentially sold it to TSA and uh he left that company went to evolve and started this project and said man if I can do that with with suitcases I could probably do it with people so we created the the Evolve Express um as a company we

have screened over 580 million people in the last three and a half years we have a lot of really big big Partners or big customers of ours um some local in town the Columbus Crew if you've been to lower.com Stadium you've probably never waited in line getting into the stadium if you've been to a Cleveland Browns game in the last year it's probably the same experience um and then the Schuster Center over in Dayton Ohio is a current customer of ours as well and then every Six Flags theme park across the country and when we talk about schools some big ones are Charlotte Mecklenburg School District they screen 87 000 students a day going through going through their 85 schools we've got about 400 units deployed about 450 units deployed in the school districts around

the country um and and all of them you know kind of in the same spot that that you guys are in one point um how do we keep our children safe how do we do it efficiently how do we do it without having the students wait in line uh get them in a very nice timely manner so with the Evolve Express that's a single Lane configuration it comes as a single and a double a single or a double the single line configuration can screen about I like to say about 1500 students an hour where double lane is about 3 000 students an hour it's a little a little slower granted 1500 students an hour walking through that machine right there it's it's still a lot it's a little slower with students than it is with

let's say fans going to a to a soccer game uh students bring a little bit more stuff with them there's not a bag policy at schools so uh it's something to uh keep in mind when when Adam's going to go over the demo um one thing I will say is this our company Prides ourselves in supporting your organization your District reading but a ton of work into the pre-sales and the post sales Adam's team right there he's one of how many one of 12 people in his position that scattered around the country if we need to we'll get all 12 of them to Groveport Madison School District um to assist with the go lives the implementation and the training we come out we set these systems up we train your entire staff you know we

have a crew of people where we've done go lives in 75 schools in a week we will make sure we have the team to support you moving forward if we are chosen for for your District so anyway without boring you anymore uh Adam I want Adam to kind of walk through the machine what it's designed to do is designed to look for you know dangerous weapons we're looking for firearms we're looking for uh types of bladed weapons explosives things that are going to do some mass casualty incident and your facility we don't want to screen and look for cell phones Keys belt buckles shoe shoes jewelry uh we don't want to affect pacemakers we're not going to affect pregnant women we're not going to go off in prosthetic limbs but we are going to find

very small firearms and very big Firearms as well as other dangerous weapons no matter where they are on your body or on your person so and I'm walking through he's holding my backpack so I'll I'll say so so Adam's walking through and he has my backpack and there's a lot of stuff in there there's uh he has his his wallet his cell phone his Apple watch probably his airpods which are uh which have a magnetic piece on it which will go off on every metal detector because it's a magnet and magnetic detection um and he's also got my book bag with a few books um a bunch of random stuff in there but my computer is not in there I'll tell you that so now he's gonna he's gonna walk through the system again um

with something else in his backpack and you'll see he's going to put a simulated inert weapon in his in his in his bag it is it looks like a firearm um obviously it's not one and he's gonna walk through and you're gonna see oh there you go so you're going to see the uh the system is going to turn red so there there is an audible it comes off the tablets that are Wireless we did turn it off and you'll be able to see on a screen that it puts a red bounding box across the part of your body of where it is pretty obvious it's on his backpack but if he was walking through that with his with a weapon on his ankle or a weapon on his hip it'll miss the backpack because

there's nothing in there currently and to put a red bounding box around his ankle or his hip so the secondary screening method is very very easy it's that person it's that part of their body or it's in their bag it makes it extremely simple and and easy to let them come through a lot of the schools that use this the one thing I do ask for them to divest is their is their computer um it's you know it's a big piece of metal Chromebooks for the for there's two parts of a Chromebook that are that go off we're looking for barrels we're looking for shakes we're looking for tubes or Steel and uh Chromebook has a hinge or sorry a a almost like an axle connecting the the keyboard to the screen and it looks

like the barrel of a firearm the other thing is is your Chromebooks have reinforced steel batteries because we all know students drop them and we don't want to break them and the reinforced steel will set it off as well because it's dense metal and that's essentially one of the signatures we're looking for so we just asked them to to move the laptop away from their bag so when they walk through it'll put a red box on their laptop and if they're there's a dangerous weapon or something else on their bagger person it'll put that red box as well on their bagger person so the secondary screening if it's just on their on their tablet or on their laptop they're good to go and we can that's something that our company trains with as well um

I'm gonna send it over to Kevin and first of all any questions for for me so you're saying that that they have a Chromebook they're going to have to take that out of their bag yes that would slow the process of them going through um you would you would think that but it actually wouldn't because we're gonna there we work with the schools and help them get the the communications out to say when you show up tomorrow or the second day just have your Chromebook out of your bag the great part is is the difference between students at schools versus versus fans at sporting events your students are coming to school the same place every single day fans not necessarily so on day two day three look day one it's gonna it's it's a it's

a new piece of technology it's gonna be brand new um but day two it's going to get a little bit better in day three it's going to be a lot better but our team will be there to support the install the go live the training the and and and the post the posts go live as well um the a big question a big a big uh response I get is is it's too slow we don't want our students waiting outside to get in with five degrees I live in Chicago um so I've got a big school district right downtown Chicago dick Charter School District it's it's negative 20 degrees the other day and I drove past during their load-in and there was not a person outside I can say with certainty that we will not

ever have a have a line around the block you will never have people standing in line waiting to get in things are going to move and I know this is being recorded uh I I will say that um a line won't exist and I yeah you have a question what about three reasons binders I had read that it picks up three ring binders as well so yeah we uh the bigger the binder the it's good it would be somewhat of an issue the reason is the spine of a binder is a big piece of dense metal and sometimes they go off sometimes they know that's my that's my honest response um I would say uh of all the schools um that that we work with that you know there's also yeah so so so some

go awesome though I mean that's what I guess what I'll say the bigger they are the big Trapper Keepers and those are a difficult one because they're really big but uh for a large majority for the demos that I've done they haven't been an issue for me do you provide a list of items that will set the alarm off so that a district can absolutely let them know all the students know ahead of time these are things that will make it go off so you need to yeah absolutely cheers also um the school districts that you've worked with have they had to change their start times or modify their start times no actually a lot of them um you know there's a lot of clients of ours that have had walk through metal detectors before

and other you know hand ones and actually they the start time at first class is the bell rings at 7 30. very rarely do you have everyone in their class at 7 30 with a metal detector or a hand one and if you do it's because you open the doors at six o'clock and you're able to get through that line now you know 20 minute load-in periods uh 1500 students it's very realistic and I say that where if you have 700 students I think you have one of your Schools they're probably coming in multiple doors and if they are you would put a one of those in one door and one of those in another door or you put a double lane system in if there's enough room which it typically is and that screen's

up to 3 000 students in an hour if I did you mention um that it picks up explosives did I miss hear that yeah it's yeah it'll pick up IDs okay um enclosed explosives with shrap on the one side yeah are there any false positive or what is what are things that would be a false positive for that for uh for like an explosiveness um yeah I mean they're one of our biggest false positives are eyeglass cases like metal eyeglass cases the ones that snap stuff like that like that right there it's the Kryptonite to every metal detector um typically your student will figure that out on day one and say hey on day two can you just come with a soft case you'll never have to worry about it again um that's that's our

biggest by far that's our biggest nuisance to learn and one more question uh what what is the accuracy on knives so my response to that question is you know we are very very very good at picking up Firearms we are pretty good picking up guys I will tell you this you're going to find a lot more knives than you ever thought you were and this goes for all of my clients that goes for licking Memorial Health System who just put two systems into their emergency department yesterday they said we know we have a problem we just don't know how big the problem is um you'll and you know there's a lot of things that you're going to find that metal detectors can't pick up like mates you're going to have tasers you're going to find

random paraphernalia because you're going through bags that were that were searched like what they depends you're gonna so our system won't pick up a vape pen well will not it will not pick up a vape pen by itself but you will have people who are afraid that it's looking for vegans you'll also have people that are they'll see it on day one just go look in your in in your bushes they're going to be vape pens in there there's going to be vape pens in your trash can I promise you um but yeah you're gonna it you're gonna be able to uh you know really instill the the security side of things but also the like the risk being respectful side of things that's what Kevin's going to talk about as well so I know

we have a little bit of time left do you have another question yeah I just wanted to find out how many people man each one of the great yeah great that's a great question um you know day one for for so for a double lane system we recommend five total people for a Rec for for date for for a double lane system you know single Lane system two um the more you get used to it that number can go down um I recommend we I think we always recommend four for a double lane system but I've seen some schools do it with three um you know there's a large school district I can't say it yet there's a large school district near here that are going to be deploying these and they're going to try

to figure out a way to do it and as minimal as possible because we know it's a big lift we know it to staff more people or take people out of the halls or take principles away from their their desks we try to make this as easy as possible for as little uh extra I guess assistance as possible but the answer to that is two per Lane so does that also include the staff that would pull the student off to the side that's all that's all included that's included within that count okay and if this is later in the presentation I'm not trying to steal any Thunder but you know we look at different buildings and our high school is about 2 000 students and we have a student parking area we have a parent

drop-off area and then we have Bus drop on ferries do you guys help us determine locations and how many and okay so that's come great my my uh my best we hired one of my best friends to come work here he's like the the K-12 specialist he did uh he did 27 site visits in the last two days today and yesterday and that's that's what he does that's what his team does and they will spend we will we will spend a full day going to all your schools or two days three days a week however long it needs to be not only will we do that we'll take pictures we'll take measurements we'll we'll you know we have these uh these augmented reality pictures of our system will take pictures and put them there and

then show you exactly how the condom should work and then you can sign off on it that works during install we install it we train we set everything up and it's all good to go I'm going to turn it over to Kevin Everly to uh kind of talk about what what he's the pro hat thank you so much thank you board members Madam president superintendent thank you so much I'm I'm in a little different situation than the employees of inval themselves and I have a pretty good story to tell so I've just come into this company as their advisor and consultant in the last six months I just just recently just retired from Buffalo New York as a building principal and a chief operating officer prior to that I was a police officer for several

years coming out of college so I've spanned 40 years of experience of basically being in a reactionary world and when I met uh the Personnel from a valve right towards the end of my last year Buffalo has really gone through a rough year I mean I I had a one of my seniors just uh to feel everybody's pain in this country what we're going through and I'm just so impressed with this community here because I'm really here to talk about the community and every community in the country and I'm going all over the country now not as a Salesman but actually as an educator and and I did my own research a lot of research in my dissertation years ago small learning communities and it's all coming down to relationships and listening to people's voices

the teachers the parents especially the students my senior was under a car for three hours after the mass shooting in Buffalo and then some one some white kid wanted to come down from Binghamton New York and I'm just going to kill a bunch of black people and buffalo went for Capital had the biggest ratio of African-American uh citizens in the city where he actually did his homework in shot 10. my secretary's husband was one of those killed it's near and dear to me and when I met all of these gentlemen and ladies and gentlemen we're talking brilliant scientists you know Silicon Valley MIT they're located off of Massachusetts and I said I have to continue on my journey for what I've done my whole entire career starting off as just a rookie police officer in

Hampton Virginia and one of the most bigoted Prejudice areas at the time it was only a few years before the segregation was lifted in 1972. so I have stories to tell I wrote about it a lot of things but now my mission is to be a support for not just a valve on all of you when I heard all the speakers come up I'm talking about the violence and all the different things are going in schools that's not just here it's all over the country I'm hearing this all over the country we're seeing it all over the count I lived it in Buffalo New York I mean we we see it all over the country and my passion to be with a company that I I believe and again be perfectly clear I'm not here

as he's held I'm actually here as the educational advisor and the actual motivator to say we need this in every school district in the country not for profit but for safety but it really comes down to my opinion it's not about a detection system it's not prevention if you really start looking at what schools are look at this room right now you have sprinkler systems number you're only over there you know how many fires there have been in schools in this country since 1923 how many fires where there's lots of life for fires eight and the first floor was tragic because it was gas leak so they were all wooden structures but we have all these laws across the country for fire drills fire suppression sprinkler systems millions and millions and millions of dollars and

all this different fire drills we have fire drills I was a principal for 30 years I I literally had to worry about the safety and the sanctity of every school every day and in Buffalo very very difficult time what it sounds like you're having here and across the country well I had to look at the news the night before and look at the shots fired and who is it going to be oh my God I hope it's not one of my students you're looking at a guy that's 65 years old he went on 40. who's married 22 students in 22 years and most because of violent ads summer car accidents but mostly by an ex I literally am passionate about the work that we're doing and what they represent John Jolly is here literally coming

flying in here he's the vice president of all North America that's how important this really is in a community like this knowing that you need this help this is not a sales pitch this is a necessity across the country we really believe in something where I come into it is we really have to look at this as another layer not just prevention of preventing schools having guns come in and Mr superintendent doctor I I I I apologize so because I know you know a lot of hard work I'm in a lot of people look at it and they say well what about Vapes what about Don you know what about knives all these other things as a principal of all those years that's administrative management 101. 1955 was a pack of cigarettes in a bathroom

smoking in the boys room right we're still just packing cigarettes The Vape is the same way but now because of marijuana and all of their stuff and all the drugs and all this or drugs we have a whole layer of amazing things that are going on that we have to do something at a different level of looking at the trauma that is going on in schools it's about the social motion element I hated when I was in the schools as a principal and we because of the violence we had in Buffalo we had to WAND every single student as Kevin was alluding to there's no lines this is a free flow system where they're going through and the one thing is the guns with knives you're not going to have a mass knifing you might

have a one-on-one fight and you might have something that could hurt but there's actual knives in your art classes that you can take out of our class and actually hurt someone so we have things in schools already they can hurt people but that's one-on-one things we are in the business of mass casualties and I've been around a long time we see it every night and as you're saying in the schools well well stated but it's the voice of the parents is the voice of the students it's the voice of the teachers that have to be heard all over this country because those are the ones that have the anxiety the depression and the fear every day coming into schools there's a caveat to this you reduce the fear the depression and anxiety knowing that there's

no guns coming in the school you're going to raise the teacher attendance you're going to raise the student attendance you're going to raise the parents participation parent volunteers parent volunteers they're coming into the schools you're going to have a better appreciation for the school district itself when we can go back to what is really all we're in the business for I was in the business of teaching and education kids that's been lost now we're coming off of the pandemic and it's even more difficult with the mental health issues that we're dealing with and now you have weapons involved in all these schools you see it on the news every night mass shootings and all those and it's just an offshoot and the anxiety and the depression and the fear just keep on building and building

and being we have something that I think collectively again it's the human element it's not that machine the human multi-tiered unit all human beings I loved it when you said it how many people are involved I only went to an airport in the last couple days we've been in airports all week we go all over the country for this and I started thinking about this because there were some mentioning saying oh we're going to be searching weapons and all that and some people should be armed to be searching for weapons not one TSA agent in the airport has it gone think about it when we go through the airport I started thinking about that I go through it every day you know all this week we went to the four different airports and it's not

about being ready and on guard it's a preventative measure and psychologically as Kevin alluded to we're having superintendents to call me I have a good friend in Niagara Falls you know we're just north of Buffalo okay Dr Beverly can you please do something for me here I need a new janitor you have a valve pay from janitor to clean up the front yard with all the Vapes and all the different pocket knives also if they're throwing in the bushes as he was saying so it's a preventative piece with the detection piece in there but I look at it again as a weapons prevention through detection that's what we're really talking about here and that's what I think when we get into the social emotional piece of it you reduce all that anxiety and you bring

all that stuff together you have incredible incredible piece of equipment that no one else has and they don't have the service you can have all kinds of stuff you can look at all different products you're not going to have the piece that we're talking about right now the social emotion element and that's what we're doing we have a whole educational team now that basically are going around talking to everybody so we can have candid conversations get the transparency with parents students and get everybody's voices out here to actually be a collective decision maker for your school district and more importantly the entire community do I thank you thank you so much any question John dralley I'm sorry we only have to keep the comments from the audience thank you no no questions at all it's

okay all right thank you thank you so much I do have a question um I just watched it go red and I watched it go red four or five times tonight so um and obviously I don't think many people have book bags out here so why why is it going off so much tonight can we see the LA the um the display in the back of why that went off just now just to answer that question anyone walking through where it turned Brad yeah yes please again I think I think some of you come in depending on what again not knowing what anybody have on them I mean as far as it's it it would be he can look at it right there there's a screen he can show you if it's in the pocket

or something but again there's a perfect example of the human element of this when you have the second when you have the secondary search okay foreign I've got one other question I also read um the sensitivity of the of the detectors um there was one school district that failed to detect uh Glock which is a pretty common gun um so how do you address the sensitivity of the metal or elected detectors um I don't know I'm not aware of that specific instance um the system has multiple sensitivity settings it would certainly detect uh a Glock and it would depend on the model the block but it would certainly detect the Glock on any standard setting that we would recommend for use in education um and it is possible that uh if it did fail to

detect I don't think it's possible the system wasn't configured or set up properly okay it looks like it was Spartansburg um they had it set at a Level D um sensitivity setting so I just would you would that be something that you would then look at with with these yes so one of the things we do as part of the process is recommended sensitivity setting conops that we talked about and how to operate it in your environment in your school so yes okay thank you how affordable are the units it is portable there's Center Wheels you can lift it up on the outside Tower or the smaller tower has skate wheels so they are portable they and and you can move them and there is a a more portable version of this that is available

now than the one we have here that's literally designed to to be operated outdoors and we have some schools that run them indoors during the day and they'll take them out for their football game um in the evening I think you don't have to have special will you have special training for staff that would be moving those for them so it's it's pretty straightforward to move them and they're pretty straightforward to hook up and and we will Train everybody it takes a trained person five minutes to hook one of these up and this is the least correct this is uh I'll let Kevin address I got the question about the leaks and then the question about um if it is a lease um the liability part if we're moving in ourselves versus you moving it

for us what does that look like if something was to happen regular damage what is that warranty covered yeah absolutely um so the the the product offering is a you know it's a one cost an annual cost per system per year on a four-year contract within that cost it includes the hardware the software the warranty all updates anything breaks for any reason whatsoever we fix it other than physical damage so like that's student bulldozering it falling over snaps and breaks that's a different story but anything else that might fail we come in and fix it so I'm gonna say snaps and breaks in a different story was the different story well no it's it's it is it's a physical damage of knocking it over in it and it breaks that's typically runs into an insurance

issue how flexible are they um can you show us if yeah so the the big tower on the left weighs about 350 pounds like shake it so we can see and they can bolt them to the ground as well okay they can be both or down so yeah in a school environment you know you got to talk up here um but back to the question about the uh the the contract so when you lease it includes a hardware software um all the warranty the uh you know all the updates all the training um you know preventing and preventing the maintenance what about service hours how many service hours are included would that contract like say you do the go live so this is like the tech part you get certain amount of hours for go

live so after that go live time period is there a certain amount of service hours if not what do they have to buy it more no how does that part work just in case that's changing that's a great question we actually don't really have a service uh I guess a service plan per se it's kind of all included within the cost um you know if if you need to have us come back out for like additional training we can do it we've got we've got teams all over the country that helps with this if you've got myself I live in Chicago and you call me anytime in Chicago between November and March and I'm here um but you know we we have trained the trainers we have trained the I.T person we have trained the

security person we have online courses we have a significant online course uh a very big online educational about evolve um it's all included within the cost one other thing that's included is we have an analytics portal so for anyone that likes data and I know we all love data um we you know web based day our web-based portal that'll show you how many students or how many people are coming in each door at any given time and you can check and see okay if I'm just gonna throw out the name uh Groveport Madison High School and Groveport Madison Middle School um between the hours of 7 00 a.m and 7 15. how many students were made its way to the door in that given time and that 15 amends or the five minute increments and

how many of them had alerts and what alerted you have all that at your fingertips on an app and on a web-based portal I have one more question said Cheryl 19. um are there iterations with current security systems are you guys that Savvy yet to where you've partnered with school systems to where we could maybe do some type of Integrations that we have like a One-Stop shop so yeah we have Integrations built uh with different uh like security systems like VMS video Management Systems uh currently we integrate with a vigilon milestone and genotech as a VMS goes um I know we want to try to find an integration within uh visitor management because that's that's big and I think you guys are going after that's when the Raptor I'm sorry it's uh yeah but we

do and we also have an open for the ID people in the room we have an open API which we can basically push it out to uh really anything you've got and it and in addition this can be configured to have a button depressed to call for help so if there's a situation there's an issue you can press the button to consider text message to one or more people with some of the video systems that can actually send this image like to an image line system to a Motorola phone so yes we are we are absolutely integrating with other security systems because you'll be able to get help quickly and is there any way like for instance we have our security team but then we have our principals our building principals um so I don't

know how many of those come with each system if it's one to one is there an app option as well so say we have how many um six or seven principles of the high school that there's an ad maybe they can't do anything but at least they're notified yeah there if something is if it's like a secondary and you can you find let's say a weapon you can press a button and it can send a text message even to to cell phone to a tree of cell phones if you want to do that we have a filter notification system yeah exactly just real quick you said it integrates with raptor we we're building an integration within visitor management okay all right yeah so one thing that's that's really big about our company is if you

know if if there's a need for something and it's it's actually doable unless it's completely out of left field we will think about and try to figure out different Integrations with that kind of stuff and I have one other question just to go back to the false trigger so how would you normally typically handle false triggers uh when kids are going through the the system yeah um so there's the two different uh settings so you know one person is considered the flow control basically being a traffic officer keep calm and keep coming okay beep step over here for a second secondary screening hey can you please step over here to this to this table where they also have a tablet and they're able to see okay is that that person it was in their backpack

and you do a back a back screening um you're not really looking for weapons trying to make sure we don't have anything and then you let them go the honestly the secondary screenings take no more than 20 seconds um like a good back search trying to take more than 20 seconds it's a critical thing with the flow the the the free flow coming in and again this is the principal's hand on now when I was in Charlotte Mecklenburg to see this it actually it literally is changing the fabric and the culture of schools you're having all the principles you can have all the different people greeting the students instead like because there'll be different teachers working in it's a whole different greeting session and it literally is changing the the fabric of the schools as

far as the personal side of it and it's really bringing up the environment where they're really you know the biggest piece is definitely kids coming through and thinking wow there's one thing we have to worry about today so it really does change it psychologically it's it's big in the free flow and it and Equity is another big piece because there was a lot of profiling through the years of wanding where you know oh well no that that little girl there she's okay oh this guy's okay then someone comes through and there's a lot of profiling when it comes to metal detectors and the secondary wizard searching everybody or whoever they want to choose so the equity piece is a is a huge part of this too because everybody has to go through it and it's

everybody's the same and that secondary search as we said we've we've been all over the country it's it's it really is working out well and the secondary shirt she would use wands I'm sorry on the secondary search you would use wands so using it like in tandem possibly um you know that's completely up to you all some places do use ones some of them just do a either a back search or they'll say hey please take everything please take what's in your right pocket out or you know if something was on their ankle um please just lift up your pant leg just so I can see your ankle it's that it's that exact so you don't take them to a different area I would think you don't want you go back to the mic Center

for me thank you the actual secondary piece actually it was really not invasive it was really something because it's so quick for me personally what I was saying about Buffalo when they had a wand everybody and that was sort of arbitrary sometimes to you know different people you could see it it was just different arbitrary depending on who the student was and it was and again this is the old police officer of me in the Hat I'm thinking this is so much profiling and I wasn't one of the toughest schools in the city but when it goes into that piece that it it really is an Easy Flow it just goes in there we're in Hemet California last month they had to go live uh it was over 2 000 students in the school double

lane going through they had two tables set up on both sides and the lights go on and the kids got used to it the other part of this is the self-pro their own self profiling of themselves their self edification there where they sit there and say well I don't want to get stopped every day so they they start looking at the different items that they're going that are hitting up like that like the eye glass case or something like that so it really is an Awakening to a lot of them you know the free flow definitely is something don't worry about the Privacy well because it's not it's not like a body search you're just looking at the purse or whatever area that's looking at yeah you're just looking where the red box is right

so it's speed secondary because if the box is here I'm not asking him to look at their ankle I'm not ask them to look at their backpack I'm asking what's in the right pocket one other question was at these schools are they using existing staff or are they hiring additional staff it's both it's both I mean in Buffalo Buffalo just uh was awarded the con today they had 65 units come into the they grown K-12 in Buffalo so they literally have a teacher at the first Podium which is the traffic sort of the traffic okay you got to go if you be alert hey can you just step off to the side and then we have sros or school security office inside some schools it's all teachers so it's like a stipend to those teachers

that do this or well for ours is part it's one of the teacher duties in the morning instead of doing the cafeteria they'll do that we do have some schools that offer a stipend additional stipend to the Educators for coming in a little earlier to do this okay and the cost of each one of those um for so it's we we probably we primarily sell same line systems um because typically you put in multiple doors and you don't have one door for 1500 students so for a single Lane system like that all then you're looking at around twenty seven thousand dollars per person per year on a four-year contract so that's all in we bill you annually um in advance and it includes everything so that's why it's a question about no auditing because we

have one invisibility where the stupidest part can come in we have the front entrance where the student drop off and then we actually currently use all three pods different grade levels enter the different pods separately so we have five primary access points and then after the school starts and the exterior doors are locked uh tardy students are only students coming through the tardy entrance so you know and that's that's just the high school um you know middle schools have different patterns because they're smaller buildings and things like that so that would be part of what we need to assess and and honestly um determining if we're going to do this at what locations are we doing only High School are we doing all buildings um so that would come into play as well yeah why

do you have so many access points that seems to be a lot for our student population I can answer that good question so the majority of our students arrive by school bus and it's over 80 percent of our kids so they come on the sides of the pods where Rarity Hall Cruiser Hall and pride Hall and when the students exit the bus the 10th graders go to Pride Hall the freshmen go to Cruiser Hall and the Juniors and seniors go to Rarity Hall and they and each of those Halls have doors that they enter from the buses so 80 of our 2 000 kids come from those buses then at the front doors where the flags where the flag is the front main door we have a lot of students being dropped off or and

they come in those doors so we're going to need some of the a couple one or two there and then we have students who drive and the student parking is on the side by the tennis courts and we come in especially our athletes will come in by those locker rooms and we'll need one at that door so and as uh Mr group talked about so the door is locked as soon as school starts so a 715 doors are all locked and any student that arrives after 7 15 enters the tardy hallway we're actually miss Hume works and we're going to need to uh scan students that come in targeting does that make sense well I'm kind of confused so the kids that drive have one entrance I want to make sure I understood okay the

kids that drive have one entrance the kids who are driven they have another entrance and then the buses have three entrances I guess the question would be again why so many is it like you don't want them walking to another entrance right it's a flow of traffic we have two 2 000 students coming in it's a flow of traffic how we get kids in moving keep moving along they find their first period uh a lot of our kids take advantage of our breakfast program so the management of that it works out it's pretty tight in the morning especially coming from the bus areas with the three pods but we still make it work and you know by doing those great level um hallways that will be 400 students per unit how how quickly can you

get 400 students per that would be one walkway right are those double or are those 13 double entrances or those single door entrances they have two doors so they're double entrances it's it's double doors that feed into one hallway so so basically door and way and it's really a double are there two double doors or one double door it's two double doors that feed into one hallway it's one double door it's one entrance with two doors right one entrance with two pairs of doors or two things the doors it's two doors with emollient in the middle so it's a single entrance with two doors but it's like the front entrance I got like like chairs and then two singles right so actually they have ordered right I mean it just seems like it's pretty accessible

if you're going through a pair of doors how how quick can you get 200 kids through one single door six and a half minutes six and a half minutes so you're saying it'll slow down to lower the number of entrances and I'm just the math is just not figuring for me so order please order please ma'am order please we'll definitely take your questions after if you guys have questions feel free to reach out but we need to have ordered during the board meeting okay um regarding the entrances I know that's where superintendent group and team will be doing an assessment to even see board member Walsh if we're going to maintain those same entrances because that may not be the option so that's currently what we're doing without the weapons detection system that may not

be where we end up so I don't want us to get hung up on that um but if you would like to discuss it further I just want to say for the record moving forward we would do an assessment or an audit correct with your team to determine the purchases absolutely than where we would locate them correct we will not move forward in a process without that sorry but right now you have an idea of what we have yeah we will then bring you in and like you said we would do the walkthrough correct part of your process okay so just everybody so that we're clear on that uh board member Walsh if you have any more questions I didn't mean to interrupt but I wanted to make sure everyone is clear that there will

be an audit and an assessment so we can determine how many of the entrances that need to be used so we know how many units to purchase that sounds awesome all right are there any other discussion for us um or questions for the vendor or any of the our leadership team here Madam chair please me oh I do have one another question how long is that going to take to get the audit what is the time frame um I mean if we come out and we schedule a time that should take an hour and a half so have we scheduled a time yet can we do that now go ahead we'll we'll we'll have our Administration get with them board member Walsh to do the next steps you have a question Madam treasure can you

turn your mic on that ma'am thank you questions about the lease you mentioned that it's an annual cost on a four-year lease so I'm assuming we would keep the same piece of equipment for four years and then if we renewed the lease would we get new equipment yes and if the um during that first four years if the equipment wasn't functioning to our satisfaction do you offer a replacement to bring something else out while that's being repaired um typically if something were to go down we would we would uh dispatch someone on site and fix it immediately uh we we have we we pride ourselves in our serviceability and you can call any of our any of our customers if you want to talk to any of them let me know introduce you to them

um but our serviceability and our customer our customer support is a big thing we pride ourselves on and we uh we will put someone on a plane that day what the part we'll fix it yeah all right well if we could move to the discussion portion I have a couple things of you guys can say just in case we have any more questions if you don't mind but I would like to um see if I could get um some uh another meeting on the books for February 22nd for us to look at the other vendor who has not been able to present um during that discussion we will also um discuss the financial choices you know in regards to what does that look like as far as our budget adding it in permanently um Staffing

in-house or contract because as we heard we could use existing which is thank you for sharing that or we could bring in more so we're looking at hiring staff or Contracting staff that will be a part of the agenda and if there would be a need to do like a staggered start what that would look like um and then also I personally would love to hear from the union um I know board member Bauer and I are vice president will be reaching out to Ms joy to have a meeting with her just to kind of hear what she has to say we did get some great information from the parent advisory Council the one moving forward that bit I would like to add a special meeting for February 22nd just to look at the other

vendor because I know that um we like to and a lot of our board members here have talked about insurance we looked at more than one option we did have a presentation by Mr Smathers but this is the first vendor that has come out and there's one more vendor that was presented that we wanted to see so do I have any it's February 22nd work for everyone for a special meeting to address those items um specific to safety so that was pretty quick trying to follow up with the screen yes ma'am I repeat but um no I will repeat everything so that way you can hear okay sorry no problem no problem thanks for letting me know so I stated I'm asking for each board member if we could meet on February 22nd and the

agenda would be discuss Financial choices and how that impacts the budget um in its entirety what's going on with either system look at the additional vendor because there's another vendor I didn't say that they would or would not come out I'm asking that they do that or give our Administration team time to get them here then we will also have our policy experts present both niola and osba since we're trans uh transferring over to ask any policy questions in addition to our um legal counsel and then by then we could have an eye understanding as far as Staffing are we using in-house are we going to hire more are we going to go contract so that is what that special meeting would be very specific because our last board meeting we talked about these are

key things that we need and we also wanted to make sure as board members I know especially you Kathy we've always talked about looking at more than one vendor to make a decision and we have only met with one vendor so I want to make sure that we meet with another vendor so we can get their quote and get their presentation as well so I'm asking the board if we can host a special meeting on February 22nd with those items good we have that that is what I was asked that's what I said Kathy okay yeah because they're aren't they scheduled to come on March 8th meeting I don't know if they're scheduled to come on the 8th but I'm asking for them to come on the 22nd if available so that's what I'm asking

the support from the remainder of my colleagues so we can wrap this up I'm good with the February 22nd just make everybody aware that is Ash Wednesday so yes ma'am thank you yeah that works for me as well I'm all right all right one member Washington February 22nd um work so we can get the remaining items address please perfect so is uh I'll send this over to you uh Mr superintendent to ensure that we have that agenda outlined again it will be a special meeting um just on that topic specifically um if there are no more questions I really appreciate you all coming with your demo and your items um and speaking with I also asked a superintendent group that we do have a parent group safety group and what's going to get with Mr

Smathers and Mr group to see if you guys could possibly do a round table with that group specifically so that they can ask any additional questions I know they have questions tonight and we really didn't have the opportunity to die during that because we have to keep order for the meeting but if you all would be willing to set that up with them for that group I would appreciate that I don't know if my colleagues would as well be great also I do have one other question you're good with a question for the admin team by that February 22nd meaning when does our our survey that goes out to The Community when is it close thank you all so much when does that close okay so at least we'll still have some data we can

look at tentatively on that 20 second meeting okay so I'll repeat that Jeff stated that the survey that we are going to have safety that goes out to The Community will go out next this Friday and it's going to close the beginning of March however we can track the data and have something to look at to see how many people have taken the survey and their responses for February 22nd special meeting okay so the survey is not a community survey it goes to parents students and staff at the high school that is the target for that survey I do have a request that if we win prior to that meeting with um the union to see what type of stipend would be required right and I know that we've had some additional conversations uh just

about the concept of doing this and and of course we would uh be with the association and engage in any type of negotiations and I would say we're um not direct dealing now or anything like that we go through a program calls and procedures correct just so we have an idea whether they would even consider it Craig and board member Bauer and I are reaching out to um the gmle pricing as well just to make sure as well so um if there's nothing else here again thank you evolved well I do have a question about survey Why didn't School Mrs Walsh members of the boards if you recall in December I presented to you and gave you copies of the survey in November um and it indicated we were planning to survey high school students

parents and staff and we agreed that was knowing our it's in our board retreat binder as well and we did um and it wasn't our trade strategic planning session let me say that because it's not a retreat it's actually a planning session and we all concurred then that those would be the the target group first um and then we had changes because that's why I didn't go out in January because I believe board member Walsh you had some changes you wanted to make so that caused the further delay on that survey going out so that's why it's going out now because you had some changes that we wanted to make sure we're in there yeah well I think we should re-look at that and that survey should go out to our middle school students those

are the parents who are going to have their kids in high school next year and if that was overlooked by the board my bad I'm sorry to those parents but I mean they should they should be able to chime in on that absolutely and we can definitely do a separate survey for that but I would hate to delay because those questions from my understanding and that's what you shaking your head jack they were geared towards the high school so we can can we work on commit to working on a surveys for the Middle School parents as well then would that be suffice board member Walsh would that work if it goes out to the middle school and I think it should the community too but the middle school is the one I'd really be fighting

for those parents okay well I fight for all parents so I could also say that that the middle school students who are in our district even if they're sending their kids to another school because the reason a lot of them are sending them to like Madison Christian or another location is because of the violence and if this is something that might bring those kids back and make those families feel better that would be a good thing for the district yeah I just said we're going to do another survey but I stated it we're here for all parents and all students so it wasn't that we were negating to leave them out at the time where we had our crucial issues we're at the high school and we were trying to address that first then moved

to the middle school so for all of us here we've all concurred that we will do a middle school survey as well because we look at all our students and parents not just one or the other that may maybe your priority but not all of our priorities um so if we could get a draft for that and questioning set up for that and see if there's any feedback from the um safety folks our safety team uh Community if there's some Middle School parents on that that may have some suggestions on questions have that included that would be great and if we could have that draft I don't know if this is a a badass but if we get a bad asks if we could have that I did because I promise um a fast um

ask to have that for that February 22nd that way that survey can pretty much we close out the high school one and go right into the middle school one does that work for everyone that works was that too fast did you did it go over the thing okay Kathy what I believe that that was how we discussed it during our strategic it is it sounds very familiar yes it is it was the high school the middle it was it was but that's okay it was it was so we're good with that is that is that too much of a okay so February 22nd we'll have a middle school survey to review and get it ready so if you have questions I'm asking that you have all of your changes and items in by okay so

you said middle school students but again I want to make sure that that includes all the other students that are going to different schools outside I don't believe we don't have access to that Kathy we don't batch this to students that are outside of the district somebody could get you access to get you those emails we can I'll let our communications director come up at this time thank you Mr Warner neither would does Panorama nor our auto dialer system have access to students that are no longer attending in the district her question was if she can get us the email addresses but we would also need consent correct well to send them a survey yeah well I'm not sure about that I can tell you we would have to manually enter them all into the

system why don't we just put it on our website where they can go to it or if we need to place a little ad in the paper that says hey if you would like to take our survey you can get it at this location we can do that can I share the risk with that because the problem the problem with that would be anybody who would kind of you can have people from Kentucky or and and that we don't actually I I personally would like to see two I want to hear from the people who are here first and then it's not that those that are not but I want to make sure our experience that has come they've come multiple times they're vested they're here at 902 tonight and they're the ones that are

experiencing experiencing it I think it's important to hear them and then we can look at the other two Kathy I'm not saying that's not important we're busting these students so we have to have their email addresses I mean I it doesn't make sense to me if we're busing them we don't have their information for their students I just don't want to see the work done double let's just do it right the first time get the information and be done I'd rather have information for our next meeting so we can make a good assessment based off of what we have in the interim as I was stable that for the Middle School survey if you have items that you would like to see let's not wait to the board meeting to get those two Administration I'm

asking that we could have it turned in by February 15th to Mr group and myself that way those things can be done so we don't have another delay with the survey going out does that time frame work for my colleagues yes it does to me for me thank you very welcome thank you so February 15th we'll have any of our ads and then we'll go from there thank you so we've got a February 22nd meeting we've got a deadline for Middle School survey data or questioning to be to our admin team by the 15th and we are cooking with gas as they say in the military just real quick special meeting will be held at seven o'clock yes same time 7 P.M thank you if there's no other items for discussion and this presentation again

well done to our admin team for getting evolved out here we were able to talk to the team prior to and actually kind of go through the demo um and actually see it happen live the entire meeting so I want to just thank you all personally for getting them here um and and sharing that if we can move on to item g board items um and I think that's me I do have one thing I would like to add and make a motion and I don't know if I can so I'm going to look at my Madam Treasurer and see if I can I would like to add our board goals um to the section as well to be discussed and approved here so I'm making the motion to have the Groveport Madison local school

districts Board of Education District goals to be added for approval second all right can I have roll call for that so this would then make this item G2 on the agenda tonight in my apologies I meant to add that at the beginning but if it's allowed I would take a break so we can review this we already had this uh board member wash we actually covered this in December and January and we've tabled it twice um because we had other items on the agenda and I know we have to prepare for both our Treasurer and our superintendent goals therefore we need to approve our district goals um I believe we've had a whole time to review set goals unless any of my other colleagues disagree with me at this time I agree we've set those

goals at our strategic planning meeting well what most people have been talking about our retreat was us spending hours and hours and hours together discussing our goals so we we are well aware of our goals because that's what we did during our retreat I agree I mean yeah I'm sorry it's a strategic planning but we've also um we've also have I think it's been two board meetings if we look at our meeting minute notes and for the community you can see where this item has been moved and I just don't want to go into march with this item not being rectified um 60 days out from this the um the actual planning session so if we can have roll call in a minute to look at this document you just handed me I don't know

what it is and I can't read this you can hear what you're saying stability so the document was email document back and you want to go yes ma'am we will we sent this to you on if you could give me that that was sent to you via email um in January before the January 11th meeting so you had it a week prior to that plus we had it in December on our last day so we were all there talking about it so we passed the screenshots from The Retreat Madam treasure if we could go to world Paul please I Mr Bauer aye Mrs Gray aye Mr Snyder Mrs Walsh no all right the motion passes on to item G1 Board of Education dates for 2023 we talked about coming back to the um board meaning

to discuss um the scheduled recordly scheduled meeting dates so I recommend the Groveport Madison School boards of Education approve the attached meeting dates for the calendar year 2023 section 3313.15 of the Ohio Revised Code requires the Board of Education to fix the time and place for holding regular meetings the following schedule the meeting dates and times and location is adopted for 2023 calendar year so moved oh I wasn't finished but I'm sorry I had more to say sorry special needs may be called by the president the treasurer or any two members of the Board of Education by serving assigned written notice of the time placed and purpose of the special meeting at least two days prior to such meaning in compliance with Section 3313 Point 16 orc so moved back Madam treasure if we could

have roll call please is this is this for the board menu all right yes ma'am it is it's for the um the regular schedule board meetings that we went to one meeting a month oh according to the attachment it's Wednesdays yes at the last meeting we were you were all going to look at and we can't the only day of the week that I work yes ma'am and we and we are we weren't able to come up with anything so we are not able to make any changes at this time big surprise oh okay thank you board member Walsh we know that you're committed to what you are able to do we also work so we look forward to your continued support to the district and our families we have local police there yeah one

day that I have six days available thank you Mr Snyder hi Mrs Walsh no Mrs doubtel Burger aye motion passes just for the record we did look diligently um just for our community um to see we could do board member of our and I were the ones that weren't able to change we had students in the district we have kids and we weren't able to change with our other commitments we did attempt multiple times I just want that for the record we've come consulted with each other even tried to see if families on both of our sides can help cover us down and that did not work so just for the recorder madam moving over to superintendency please uh our first update tonight is the business services update uh Mr Reed if you'll come address

the board uh thank you board um next please so I want to give an update on the current status of our transportation department from a an operational standpoint the board owns 63 buses uh again 56 of those were the original Peterman purchase we have four new buses um which we received over break inspected and they were passed today now that was at the time that I put this um put this presentation together I believe that was last Thursday um and we have three used buses from Roseburg student schools that we purchase that are still in the process of being repaired at Fida CVS is providing three buses additionally um kind of like his backup buses and for training um and we also they've also provided five Vans for various reasons we are working on routes

for next year I'll touch on that with the next slide here in a moment and from a staffing standpoint we had three trainees pass last week um we are adding preschool routes and actually we're actually adding an additional preschool route um and we're adding tiers to help with some of our overflow and timing situations next please so our new preschool routes I I want to show you the top the top image is the old routes they technically shouldn't overlap and I I do have to thank Mrs Culver one of our employees who reroute these on the bottom I will say that that lime green route is a lot of kids so we're actually going to be adding another route there so if we count that up that's going to be 5. our goal is that

no route is over 40 minutes and that's why we're doing that we're able to do that one like I said because it was she was able to Route those two we have the the buses to do it and three we have the drivers to do it so it's a really good situation to be in um from an implementation standpoint the new preschool routes start on Monday I do have to thank Mitzi and her staff and our Communications staff for making sure that everyone is in the loop actually um and that's fantastic I will say because I can't remember what's on the next slide um yeah not that sorry go back that we are working diligently on brand new routes for next year um this is a fantastic progress for us to the district for our

students again we have we have the knowledge we have the staff and we have the the capital to do this so this is a fantastic place for us to be in transportation will never be perfect but that's what we're striving for and um thankful to a lot of people that are part of that so next slide please the my view app will be launching in a week from today I'm working with um Mr Warner on some uh communication to that because there are some there are some little caveats with the system that have nothing to do with us it's just part of the system um really excited about that I don't want to delve too much into this what I can tell you because I believe board member Bauer has this on on his um

on his phone said it was fairly easy the issue that we're currently running into is that the boundaries that you see you can see in that picture there's a blue boundary that's not notifying us that's not notifying users right now when the bus enters that zone but the bus is moving in real time and that is accurate um I've spent some good time with our three Transportation ladies to verify all routes all bindings All Keys all everything and we are up to date um so we're ready we are ready for uh Wednesday next week I will say that this does exclude any students that are not going to Groveport schools you must have a student ID in our student information system to be part of the myview app so if it's a charter non-fub this

is not an option that's just how it is we have to have a student ID because we can't have anyone download this and just start following the bus whenever they want there are verification steps that student ID has to match a last name and that's all done in the background so um a little bit of a safety thing there can you put that out that when you guys put this on the website that we have it the reason why just so that I know that there's going to be parents for the non-public schools asking why sure can I try to get ahead of the game and can I ask two questions since we're here on New York um is is the software that we have with the boundary issue is there anything going on with

the software team like why is that uh this is a separate system okay yeah so that's that's versatrans which is the routing system this is zonara GPS system got it yes and then I wanted to add a suggestion that shared with a superintendent group just now I don't know how much time we have if there's any tweaks but I think this would be a great opportunity to um work with our Safety Committee to have them I don't know if you're doing a beta test or not maybe that would be a good group and also to get some of their input um for the comms piece too just to make sure it's making sense because I'm pretty sure there's a group you know someone from each grade level maybe represented and that could probably help with

that sure thank you thank you could we also put out a how-to guide just to set up the account okay yeah we got that thank you and we'll make any edits to that when we start seeing questions come in okay um absolutely next slide please getting over to the non-transportation things and we'll have um Mr Thomas speak on the primary one Clinic is looking great um it's still ahead of schedule um the um the walls are painted the the drop ceiling is being completed it might have been done today I was not I didn't have a chance to go there today the lighting diffuser storefronts casework flooring all that is the next couple weeks very excited about this very excited what this can provide for our community um I look forward to be a very

fruitful thing for our community next slide please um our new line installations which is our our kind of our smart panels in our classrooms um Mr CTO is this 100 complete 99.9 9 okay so we are 99 complete on the installation of the new line um technology I do have to call out a great teamwork between um the I.T staff and the maintenance staff um because they worked hand in hand on this a special thanks to Kalin from the I.T staff she worked with all the buildings and all the teachers to get things scheduled make sure they were going in at a time that was convenient for the teachers and obviously thank you to teachers administrators in the building for letting us get in there and get these things installed this was a big investment

by the district to ensure that we've got the best technology for our kids in the classroom and this was great we've completed some restroom partitions and some of our some of our older buildings we have a few more to do um done low is is listed and some of the the other things we're working on right now are fire marshal inspections and tasks and there's so much more um that we do on a daily basis because a lot of what we do in maintenance is ad hoc um from construction standpoint there's a lot that's coming um there's there's a lot going on in this District on the back end and I'm very proud to be part of a fantastic support staff team so thank you I believe that's my last slide any questions for Mr

Reed before we have Mr Thomas come on I just want to say thanks for all the hard work and all the you know navigating everything with all the different staff and everything to put this together you're welcome I'm privileged to be part of it okay at this point we'll move on to our transportation update report Madam president ladies and gentlemen um we did submit the report on time last Friday and I really don't have very many comments on it uh other than it's it's a struggle to maintain the flow of drivers we've been reporting in the 60 range we're still at 60 because we terminate people after eight unexcused absences when they just continually call off we just we went to eight and uh we just had we have to terminate them because they just

simply don't come to work and I want you to know it's a struggle with the inflow we have 25 people in training and we struggle because our trainers are also drivers and with the call-offs our trainers are driving and our trainees are acting as attendance and it's it's uh it's a struggle that's all I can say but we're we're we still have a good inflow of applicants we hire four new people the other day and uh that's driver development so we have all the numbers that we uh that we presented uh working with Chris and the three your District employees the three ladies have been wonderful it's really really an active work in progress daily lots of interaction lots of issues resolved doing well in addition to the fleet report that Chris gave CBS has

had three buses on the ground here for months but we added four more we at least come to Cleveland City two of them arrived this past week two week two next week so that'll give you four more buses in use beyond what he what Chris reported and the the phone calls are way down the calls and the complaints you know are way down uh and we're dealing with it and then on a positive note next week we're going to celebrate uh the national love the bus month that's the American School Bus Council uh it's it's a value proposition of the yellow school bus this is a little different than school bus safety week which is in in October which which uh values the safety record this is the value proposition the students and parents and

families access to education and uh and oftentimes people forget the value proposition of the yellow bus so on the 15th uh we'll have uh we'll have a celebration we're inviting all of you to come we'd like to take a nice big positive picture of the 85 employees in that department I'd love to have you all there any questions I did have one question what's the latest time that a bus typically comes in in the morning in the evening oh after seven why is that do you have an after-school program okay so I just we have two or three okay that are that way it was like 7 30 coming in coming inside that's kind of late so I was and we we've added two additional mechanics who work till 11 30 at night so that

has helped us uh keep up with the amazing so that those are two new we had three in place and there's five total in place right now and it's going very well as far as Highway Patrol inspections preventive maintenance and all that good stuff okay thank you very much I have one question for you I noticed I don't know if there's just not an update on the ode piece um we were we weren't thanks to work with Felicia uh we um we were found compliant November it's actually in here November yeah yeah November 16th so all those things that right but I didn't know if that was all of the items because on the previous board meetings you provided that's the list of numbers and so I don't see that chart so that's why it's

here it's in this handout um you'll see that this is your position it's closed all right so it's on the Excel file now not the work got it okay and this was sent to uh also electronically now one thing I did learn is the fines associated with that non-compliance we will start because we're responsible for those fights and we will start to pay those fines with the I think it's the October built is that correct so and so we will have those cleaned up for you by the end of the year and you all are free and clear of uh any fines associated with non-compliance thank you thank you for that update I appreciate that sir thank you thank you um we still made him I need I made a boo-boo I need to go

back to G2 so we can make any changes and approve our Board District goals so the way our Communications team can get that out to the community are there any questions or comments or changes to the board goals that we can turn on I'll read them so that the general public can hear them we did three uh four specific goals of course the number one was improve school safety the objective is to reduce incidence of Violence by 10 or more goal two improve academic performance increase our college career Workforce and Military Readiness component by 74 from 18.4 percent to 32 plus there's a stretch goal of a 118 percent um on that then we have secure our financial future we all know there's a levy coming so past the levian implementing spending reductions and number

four excuse me Madam president what what part of the agenda are we on we went back to G2 I did everyone hear me say that my colleagues okay went back to G2 so that was the one that we made the motion to order we all revoted on that no we voted on adding it but we didn't vote on the part uh Kathy is everybody clear okay 9 30 we still haven't got halfway through this and you're going yes ma'am because we've done that we we did that no we're not all right again number number number four is the last goal that we had and that's to establish a comprehensive communication plan establish a plan for clear and consistent communication with our students staff parents and Community by multiple methods of media and I think with

some of our um public participation weren't aligned with what we've heard already with our with our parents established those goals so I want to just make sure there's no additional changes from our team today and we can go ahead and um vote that we're good to go on things is there any changes we voted this is G2 again again board member will also I'll ask if you have comments we can talk about that afterwards but we do need to get this taken care of which I would think you would want to do so I'll make a second all right since there's no changes if we could have roll call Madam treasure and then I'll turn it back over to the superintendent thank you it's great hi hi Mrs Walsh I don't know Mrs doubtel Burger

aye Mr Snyder all right all right the motion passes thank you we all worked very hard on this and we promised our community that we will get our district goals done and I think this is the first time at least since I've been on the board I don't know if this I'll ask our senior folks here is this the first time we've done something of this caliber um or has it been a while yeah if we had done goals but once covet hit then the focus ended up strictly on dealing with covet and getting through that but we did have goals set before okay great well I'm happy that we were able to do that and we did um do what we accomplished to do during our strategic planning so back to you Mr superintendent

on back on item H thank you okay um age three is the human resource report Mr signor would you please go over your item foreign do you have a printed copy of that G2 because I can't see it on the screen and I do not have it where the motion the motion itself I added the motion uh board member Walsh do you have a print copy of the address no I did not have a printable copy we we make motions all the time without having it printed remember that was a discussion about whether or not we should do that try to see a motion that you add on the fly so we all have added motions at all times on the Fly and honestly you actually had to mention because you denied the motion so

I'm saying I want to see a copy of it can you print it out can you type it can you email it to me right now no ma'am I will not moving on Mr Snicker thank you sorry for that sir good evening good evening everyone um I'll apologize for those in the audience today because what's being displayed has been updated I know we were asked to update some forms last week and I wanted you to have the most up-to-date version as of this evening so the board members you have that now and I'll just go through the list real quick and give you an idea or of where we are we're filling some of these positions um starting with the certified teaching positions for next school year again we try to post these as soon

as possible so we can get the best candidates the occupational therapist and two down from that the speech language pathologists we have not found a lot of success finding candidates on Apple tracks so we're going to get with Mitzi tomorrow and work on an indeed application and hopefully draw some more people uh more applicants for those positions school psychologist position was interested we had 10 candidates Mitzi and her group had interviewed them in the past couple weeks we've had a great one that we offered late last night and she turned us down and we went to number two number two turned us down and uh I left a message with the third one today and uh we'll wait to hear what she has to say tomorrow we're back to where we were it seems like

every year but anyway we did have good candidates that applied so I don't think we're missing too much with the third but uh that's what happened with the school psychologists uh grade one glendenning Elementary they have some internal applicants they will be interviewing soon um I highlighted the multiple disability unit the Middle School Central again we had a great candidate for that position we offered it and she turned it down to go to Dublin so that was disappointing but I have a good strong number two that they will be interviewing soon and hopefully we can get her on board uh Behavioral Unit of Middle School South always a tough position to fill they will be interviewing a few outside candidates tomorrow uh the high school principal position we have 19 applicants to date Elise and

I have been screening those paper screening those as they come in and I know Elise I talked today she's going to start contacting a few of these candidates virtually get to know them a little bit and see if they're viable candidates to bring to the district for consideration for the high school principal position we have filled the introduction no introduction to business position was posted at the high school we've had several candidates interested in that position because it's a Career Tech position so hopefully we'll have that filled in the next week or so uh the French position position which is interesting that's at the high school over the last couple years we've had a lot of interest in French um uh our district has at least as long as I've been here and I think

before that was only taught Spanish so the students have asked for French and we're going to post it and see what kind of candidates we get typically you get more Spanish candidates and you do french but we already have two that have applied as of this evening so I'm hoping we have a decent candidate pool and we can bring French to the high school something a little bit different you know for the students and they again have a have a strong interest in that so I think we can fill classes with that position yeah we've had French and Chinese Frenchie and Chinese our Chinese like teacher was kind of like nationally recognized as being you know one of the top like teachers of Chinese but we only had like four students in it or something

like that we thought it was when we did our major cuts that program foreign language got cut and the only foreign language that we offered was Spanish I know there's a strong interest for American sign language as well but finding those instructors are are difficult I think Penn State's got the only program at least they did uh in Ohio for um turning out those teachers but we can always look at that too uh grade 4 Dunlow Elementary that'll be filled I think within the week classified postings which again change quickly and all the time um as of this morning we had a special ed instructional Aid at glendenning and a night custodian position split position between Groveport and Madison we are starting to see more candidates for these positions so they get tend to be

filled fairly fairly quick the building substitute teacher update again this has been a um a little bit of a headache for me because it's constantly changing and the process through the ESC is tedious and I think some of our candidates give up on it and others take anywhere from two weeks to two months to get through the process so we can bring them on board um the high school we're currently down two we had two of them who were working on their teaching license and they have left to do their student teaching so I'm trying to find two to fill um to take their place I was able to find someone with a strong Spanish background uh to take the place of of the teacher who had moved to the Tucson position I don't know

if you remember I talked about that last month um he started today so I'll check up on yeah the high school and see um how he is doing uh let's see Glenn Denny is down one we had to remove a building sub this past week um some inappropriate inappropriate comments made to students that didn't sit real well with us so we have moved on to them looking for a replacement for glendenning and Asbury had an maternity leave that was supposed to happen you know I think a few weeks down the road and she's delivered early so we've got a Scurry to find a replacement for Asbury I didn't know if the board wanted to hear an enrollment department or expulsion hearings you may know I've moved into the enrollment department and I'm overseeing um you

know the functions of that department so far as far as I can tell it's gone really well um as of well just before I I arrived here I talked to some of the staff and we're all caught up on enrollments we're caught up on parent phone calls um and we're caught up on proof of residency and as far as I'm concerned that's what I know so far and I think that's a a good sign as we gear up for Kindergarten Roundup which is a few weeks away um I also do the expulsion hearings in the district I don't know you know you guys can tell me if you want an update on that on a monthly basis um I am seeing an increase in expulsion hearings they did 10 of those this week and uh

unfortunately it looks like I'm gonna have 10 more next week and that's a lot I typically would do three to five um and I'm watching all these demonstrations with you know weapons and everything and how to keep them out of the buildings I wish there was a way to deter kids from fighting because you know 80 90 of these hearings are are fighting at the high school and we haven't been able to slow down that at all so any questions for me I would like to have that data um you don't need to actually present it to us but if you can just give us the number numbers like of course no student names or anything like that but like what the categories are appreciate that's easy we already keep track of that so all

right thank you sure foreign and I would like to make a motion for a five minute recess so our seconded whatever the next thing to say is right but I'm sure if we get real cold Mr Bauer hi Mr Snyder aye Mrs daldo Burger aye Mrs Walsh aye Mrs Gray aye the time is 9 36 we will we can beam when we were done with our recess I'm from recess back to our superintendent foreign okay about coming back from Recess in a board meeting when you think about resets at schools okay uh next is a brief discussion I'm asking Mr Reed to come back up and talk about um what he's been working on and finding out about a safe route to schools and and how we can work through this process sure so the

safe routes to schools is a grant through the state and I need to thank board member Walsh for keying me in on a specific group inside of the Ohio Department of Transportation who after we provide information to them can give us a a map of all the accidents and which kind of shows where your danger areas are within two mile radiuses from our schools the safe routes to schools Grant is something that's controlled like I said by the state and kind of spearheaded by each County's engineering or each County engineer um so the things that happen within our school district obviously are things that we can't do improvements on because they're not our property their their Township property their their city property and things like that thankfully um growth or City um excuse me and

the township and also our Our Land our our district that's in Columbus city is all done through the Franklin County Engineer's Office we have reached out to them we are late for this year but they do this every year and we'll be working with them to get some improvements done for next year so very excited about that um what improvements are they I know one of the things that they are doing are the raised crosswalks so it's kind of like a speed hump um that's something but they're they're open to a lot of things um but we'll be working with them with the crane County Engineers specifically um and looking forward to what we can get done to create safer routes for our kids to school and that'll be my grant money you said I'm

sorry that would be with grant money he said grant money yes that's awesome yes I would also encourage you know like um what it to do in March but it's unfortunate we weren't able to get it this year a plant together but looking at walking school buses because I've heard from members of the community who have been here saying their kids are afraid to walk to school and the safe route the school has a lot of information about The Walking school buses sure thank you any other questions or comments about City credit scores I think extreme our fifth item is around by the membrane of understanding and grievance settlement agreement between Gulfport Madison along the school board of education and GM alleya I'm sorry I superintendent recommends School Board education we're outside the mou between

uh memory local understanding and agreement supplement between Groveport Madison and GM Lea according to the payments back end up regarding the pain of a stipend after declining medical coverage second uh this just cleans up a glitch that we had this year and correction moving forward if there's no more questions around treasure if we have more problem please Mrs Gray aye Mr Bauer aye Mr Snyder Mrs Walsh I'm Mrs dowdelberger aye motion route passes item six the superintendent recommends that the Groveport Madison School Board of Education approved the revised student engagement and community service diplomacy Hill guidelines second I did have a question on the student engagement seal um I just wanted to verify because it talks about sports but does that also include band theater or inquire Alex actually do you want to come up

and just give a quick 30-minute thumb sketch of this 30 second 30 seconds 30 seconds yes the idea was to uh provide more avenues that students could use to get this seal so that includes team and or coach they can assist the team and the coach two full seasons with um the sports teams and the coaches will verify that roster they also May participate for a full year with any official officially sanctioned clubs so that would also include and um again yeah and I guess we could put it under extra even though a co-curricular um would also apply there um and then also they might participate for two semesters as a teacher helper as well so it was just making some very so yes we'll make sure thank you any other questions or comments thank

you Elise Madam treasure if we have roll call please Mrs Gray aye Mr Bauer aye Mrs daldo Berger hi Mrs Walsh aye Mr Snyder um I think we have an Adam Sandman we pulled a program study from the consent agenda that is great Mr Supply superintendent recommends that the Groveport Madison Schools Board of Education approved for approved um final changes and additions to the Groveport Madison High School program of studies somebody okay so oh yes okay okay there's a couple one ones I noticed there are some classes that are not listed on the sheet uh classes changes to the program study um that are in addition to in the program of study so I guess I was wondering why that is probably blush I'm sorry if you could repeat that I I'm having a hard

time hearing you on this and um and we have members in the audience shaking their head so if you could speak directly in the mic that would be helpful thank you so much what I said was there are um some classes I think I think we were given that has the changes so I was wondering why that is because the course additions right there's additional courses and they're not on this list I'm not sure what classes were referring to oh I'm sorry uh one is there's a class called French one French for hearing speakers college credit history 1152 historical foundations and rates 1868 to today historical foundations of race has been in the he was in the guy last year it's the same course in French two and one French one and French for Heritage

feature speakers was added and I think it was at the French classes because we didn't have a teacher the French teacher Mr signor just mentioned yes and that's your new one and those other two courses were already offered last year well I'm just saying it wasn't in last year's program and study yeah they were offered though so there were that for example there were also some career at courses that were offered this year for some reason I don't know why we had to make sure that they were in there so that we could get them approved by the board so they were not editions they are things that were on the master schedule except for French so the I I guess I'm just super confused right now the program of study that we had that

we can get online that's not an accurate program a study for 22-23 because it doesn't have French and it doesn't have this is 23 24. I know that's the one we're doing now but that's what these changes are right so they're not they're not saying I'm not aware that the historical foundations of race nor the history course that's the CCP course were not there last year but they are on the master side I remember approving them last year correct I remember that as well we approved them last year yes I'm just saying they're not in the program study you can look at it it's online I'm not you know the one I pulled up from the district website also the historical foundation in race 1868 to today that's a different class we have two historical

foundation for race one historical foreign also that class we've had some people come in historical foundation and rates that's a CRT class I thought we weren't allowed to have critical race classes and in addition I'm not aware of what see what is the CRT class that we're offering spam we're not teaching the book we're teaching of course historical facts and is yeah ever since that class has been brought to our school our can you say that again this book we first bought this book into the class in 2019 okay and it was called stamp racism antiarism that was the name of the class one one class then the next year we divided it into two classes yeah I have the book I've read it we have two classes I would recommend reading flawed everything wrong

with stamp that's a good one anyhow we divided it into two classes we approved it we didn't have the curriculum the curriculum was sent then um the curriculum is wrote by a person who um of course adapted I'm sure we've made a few changes I would think we did but it was adapted from a Sonya I can't think of her last name right now but she has recently um put out a book that stamped for kids for elementary school students so you heard what A couple of oh sorry you heard what A couple of the people said about this book so it came out in 2019 then we had it last year and our fights in the schools have increased and increased it is a book that divides it's not a book that it divides

it's I mean I'm opposed to the book I'm I don't want it in our program of study it has a lot of Marxism Angela Davis uh you know she's a murder she did a lot of bad things and he she is idolized in this room so our students are being taught things to idolize this woman and I don't see how any Chris do you approve of the you know racist Noah kind of like Christopher Columbus was a murderer huh I mean Christopher Columbus was a murderer we live in a town named well I'm just saying do you think the first racist your kids I'm confused board member Walsh why you're afraid of this book I'm not afraid of them I don't see the point of having a critical race Theory type book this man is

a big proponent of it and am I not allowed to talk no we have people in the audience speaking I want to make sure thank you and I don't see when we have so many other things we're doing so having so many problems with we have low reading scores low math scores low everything and we're spending energy on something that is going to cause US problems I mean we changed the name and then we hear and call it foundations and race so the parents don't know it's stamp they don't know right they did it first and I proved that I didn't have a problem with that when you put your thing to your your parents and say hey here's the classes I signed up for it doesn't have the descriptions in it yeah I know

that they actually do that's why the description I know but a lot fill out the forms and a lot of times they just give it to the parents and not all parents are like oh I'm gonna read everybody but that's on the that's on the parents and they should you're right they absolutely should but they don't and not everybody knows everything about this book and it is a critical race Theory proponent in the book is based on critical race Theory and you know posed on the news that we it's not a good thing and fights have increased I I don't see any good coming from it so to answer your question as you mentioned uh this course has been in the course of study uh last year when I was here and we presented we

were asked to present the course guide which we did send out um and the the parents do get the program to study in fact the counselors are waiting to see what happens before we can begin to schedule students it is an elective so it is not required and with me speaking with the instructors of the course even once the student signs up for the class if the parent or the student does not want them to be there they can absolutely drop the class with no penalty we currently this semester have 68 total students taking this class so thank you Miss Elise I think 14 per hour you were trying to speak as well I just want to make sure everyone has an opportunity so I'll ask all of us if we could give everyone the

same respect let them finish what they're having to say that way we can hear board member Walsh completely as well as any other court member thank you guys I have something that's not on that class of 2027 but it does not say that yes and and we will make sure we clarify but absolutely on here thank you because it does not have the clarification okay so I request that to be changed okay well I would move that we uh not table this postponing the vote on this till February 22nd so that those changes can be made that the information the changes that are in there can all be presented and we have accurate information is that you making the motion I'm making a motion yeah motion to postpone you have that until we have what's

the changes that let me just said do we have accurate information I mean we don't even have all the classes listed in the um uh I believe everything is accurate correct yes for as you mentioned which is in the book I and the only thing that we need to clarify is to make sure people understand the change in the valedictorian selection is for the class of 27 not for the current students attending the high school because we don't want to change in Midstream right right and that's what I would do yes but that's not a change that needs to be made to the that The Proposal is just a clarification for people so that they know that's not until 2027 yes but it's not it okay so then there's no reason to postpone yeah I

just want to say you know I I would disagree heavily with with board member Walsh and her assessment that this is a CRT class that we are teaching um again I did read this over the weekend and my takeaway was that this is connecting um race and and the historical racism that has been seen in America since the year 1415 um and so I would have to disagree with you board member Walsh it has incorrect historical facts in it incorrect dates in it yes it does such as what that's my personal thank you board member Walsh I would like to ask if I could take a and ask deal to my colleagues that we actually take a maybe a modified version of the course if you and Dr Alex will be open to it um

maybe see some of the writing prompts like I actually want to take the class not the whole thing but just to take it just so I can see but I I don't have any questions but since it seems to be a source of contention you know with the community even though we've been doing it since 2019 um it's 2023. I I would be interested if that would be okay and would like to encourage my colleagues to also partake in taking a portion of the class before we just say the classes is is anything and I don't we're not allowed to teach CRT and I would hate that um we would say that about our Administration um I will also say I think out of all of our program of study um as the minority on

the board that we don't have a lot of items that allow our students who predominantly look like me they can see themselves in the curriculum so here this is the one opportunity that they're able to see themselves in the curriculum so I would like to if if you are open to that and have the capacity um and would like to encourage my colleague to do the same um I'm sorry yeah I'll speak with the instructors it's like a segment like if there's a quiz like at least let me take a quiz do a writing prompt like any of those things like not all of them but some of them and and that way I can get a feel as well for the course and I know last year we made sure because there was a

good about 45 minute discussion on this last year same time that we had to have certain words in the description because we were Smith like the board actually works with that description last year and I didn't see any changes per se you kept the same description and the course study is the same right and then if there's any I know that you talked about supplemental books so this is not the primary this is just one of the items correct because there's a tech there's some other books that go along with that because I want the public to also understand this is not the only thing this is in correlation with the collective of books because that's what you told us that's true okay I just want to make sure we have all the facts out

and to then correlate that with what has been on the news that is no relation and that is not um a part of this discussion as far as what was on the news so I want to make sure that is corrected for the record thank you so much Miss Elise if there's other questions um and I do believe the motion failed so if we could move forward with roll call for the program of study Madam treasurer Mr Boward aye Mrs Gray aye Mrs Walsh no Mr Snyder Mrs daldelberger aye thank you the motion carries on to our Treasures agenda thank you given the late hour I'll be very brief because our financials were performing really as projected there is a very minor variance if we go to page five and that is with our Revenue

appears to be less than we have projected for the year and that is simply we have not received our real estate settlement sometimes we get advances at the last week of January we did not get that so I expect that this will level out in February and be back on trend and then if we look at expenses on page seven yes expenses are actually down five hundred thousand but that is also a timing difference I expect that that will start to level out in February as we continue to receive Billings for our transportation That's How we'll see that level out and purchase services and other expenses are there any questions about the financials okay I do have a recommendation for the board this evening for action item two the treasurer recommends that the Groveport Madison

Schools Board of Education approve the resolution allowing rich and Gillis Law Group to file complaints against the valuation of real property for tax year 2022. second yeah that's who we've been currently we've been using them already so are there any questions from anyone or can we get more problems would you have anything that National Treasure I'm sorry oh that's okay we did have a question but I emailed the answer to the whole board so yes okay yeah unless anyone else has into something else okay roll call please thank you Mrs Gray Mr Boward aye Mrs Walsh hi Mrs daldel Berger aye Mr Snyder aye foreign the next item three would be discussing House Bill 126 and to consider declaratory judgment action however I would you the board is free to discuss this at your prerogative

but I did want to let you know that the law firm has gone ahead with that declaratory action without us so it really doesn't matter whether we join it at this time or not it so we could dispense with that discussion if you'd like that sounds great okay okay all right thank you um charges agenda I would like to I don't know if this is a good time I'll make a motion to move um out um one of the the portion of executive session okay moving on consent agenda uh the superintendent recommends group Ford Madison School supporter of Education approved the consent agenda according to the recommended actions second all right we'll call please Mrs Gray aye Mr Bauer aye Mr Snyder hi Mrs dowdell Berger aye Mrs Walsh hi Mr pastors and I worked

on to the item okay Congress announcements and other business did you have some Virginia have one thing um uh coming up I want to say it's a February 25th so that's that's a significant event at our school and and I would like to obviously get as many people there as possible to support that with a wonderful event um you know we talked about the cheerleader um success that they have which is just outstanding that was a great way to have that early in the meeting and I think that's it at this point um statement schools is March Tuesday March 14th and we will do a media frenzy to make sure that's out for everybody to come to that and we'll also have the second uh Java with Jamie February 17th this time to Tim Hortons

so uh anybody can come to that come enjoy I think we're going to switch for donuts this time too uh so we'll be happy to have anybody come there and um I think we're gonna do we're trying to have topics that will have read have read as a topic to discuss but it's open conversation it could be whatever and I think Nate is coming this time to talk about some technology things if anybody's interested but again we talk about all topics so just looking for a way to plug in and engage people president yes I I do have an item I'd like to present to the board we at our strategic planning session the board had expressed interest in a levy Workshop and inviting our board attorney in to present that and so I wanted

to see if we could get a a date that you would like to do that if it if you want to do it at the March meeting maybe before the March meeting to do that or during that March meeting during um possibly don't worry but I would I think that is something we'll probably have to look at calendars for um I know I can't give a definite answer if we need to do something else with having the state of the schools and we've got the extra board meeting um coming up this month as well so I wanna be mindful but I don't know if anyone else feels the same if we can maybe wait until the March meeting or I can call you all individually and try to get an idea to share so we

can get in um a date on the calendar are you open to that anyone opposed so me and board uh vice president Bauer will work to get you some time uh not just the board attorney I would also see if we can look at and don't know what the calls would run but the osba levy person as well um I think his name is Mike Collins as another point of contact UM to include in that discussion the book um I did want to mention some things I wanted to collab congratulate and and celebrate our law enforcement and our enrollment admin team um last month was crazy I know we had to do a couple um shutdowns and I just want to thank our law enforcement both uh the city of Groveport Madison Township we're ensuring

at our staff here we're safe I know that some of our staff has received some things that I just want to say for the record um we as a board will not tolerate threats we will not support and we will not ignore threats to our staff we will use and work with our law enforcement to move it as high as possible to the extent of the wall out so I just wanted to let our staff know that we support you we hear you we're aware and know that if something does happen we are willing to go all the way because that is unacceptable and no one should have to work under those conditions and that that is not something that we tolerate and I was going to say that earlier at the beginning of the

board meeting but I just waited to this moment but I want you all to know that I am sorry that that has happened but you have our full support um and whatever you need and again thank you our law enforcement and our administrative team to ensure that all parties were safe um not just in the office but also at home so don't know if anyone else has anything to add to that I don't have any idea that um you know for some good news I know um Elise and I went down to Asbury for the national read-aloud day and had a great time reading the kids um sometimes it's nice to get out and remember why we did this um because sometimes you know especially at board meetings it's it's kind of hard to remember

why we do what we do um so it was really nice to give back and I know both of us talked about how awesome it was to be there and the kids were excited about it and it was it was a really good experience so um I you know I know a lot of people were not not in town or sick and other things happened but I I we should all try to you know I I would highly recommend doing that next year when it comes up or just whatever they were like when are you coming back I mean the staff you know um you know when are you coming back it's nice to see your boyfriend for a year so no it's not really disappointed because I really wanted to go and and do

that particularly just love seeing those little kids faces light up when you're reading tones and then I went last year and I couldn't go this year because I was out of town business but I saw the pictures and I was jelly I loved it um I did have a question and I was Black History Month and are there any programs that our students are doing so that we can support our students um I don't know if the high schools do anything I know that Marissa Jones last year put on an amazing program I don't know if she's doing it again as the senior this year so would love to um hear about any of those in programs that we're doing in the schools um so I guess this is all called to teachers if you're

watching if you have something let us let me know for sure I would like to come and support or any program but I would like to support I know um last year was the first year was a student-led effort in 2020 it was a board-led effort so I'm looking forward to continue to see that type of things happening for all of our diverse groups but since this month is Black History Month that's what I'm rocking with one other thing I forgot to mention that sometimes the timing of things I know we need to officially recognize them but the Inspire day that we had at the high school thank you to Madam president and Dr Gordon and the work behind doing that bringing kids in having a day of positive that was a wonderful day the

you know the the mayor came and talked to the kids and and there was all sorts of just positivity and activities and and sharing and it was it was a really a really cool experience yes and uh thank you and Mr Smathers um also Statewide Latina Humphrey was present in judge Stephanie Mingo our Franklin County Environmental court judge was present to support our youth that day so it wasn't just um an organization we actually had our local elected um attend as well as board member of Snyder came and swapped out so we weren't all three together just for the record swapped out he left when board member Bauer arrived at the end um to support um we had some of our basketball players present as well and I want to give a shout out to

our comms team because they kicked butt on that video and I was like I thought it was somebody else's video and I was like wait yes so good job I think it went very well a lot of the um other students that came they were really shocked to see that video popped up right away so thank you again I want to publicly thank you for that oh and Mr Army maintenance that guy that guy Jeff Altman Mr Altman did an amazing job working and coordinating with uh more incorporated as well as whatever else we needed that day our janitorial snapped at night for setup like everybody was really helpful um and all of our volunteers that came out and did workshops we even had a uh a uh dependency Counselor come out and talk about

the session with students and believe it or not they had questions about drug use and how things work and it was very interesting she didn't think she was going to get that much engagement so to all of our community folks that came out we appreciate you and um as Mr superintendent state it will have a recognition for them or maybe the month of March if possible and Courtney with Dr Gordon and her team so there's no other announcements oh I have one more thing we honor a board member of our and I wanted to we've got the list of supplies that um our unions stated that they could use after you know the holiday break and so the month of February is not just black history month but it's also the month of love so

we thought as a secondary back to school drive because board member Bauer and I do one in August for the students but we wanted to give back to our teachers so if anyone has anything they wish to donate and I would yield to my colleagues to help participate and donate and collect donations at church if you can they gave the list I'll send it out to everybody so that way you can work with your local community so we can help our teachers out as they continue to love on our students and and just lift that burden so that they can have the additional things they need to finish off the Year Strong I want to item l I'm sorry superintendent recommends to Groveport Madison School Board of Education adjourned to Executive session for the purpose

of considering the appointment employment dismissal discipline or demotion of public employees School District and for the purpose of considering the sale or purchase of proximity and competitive vetting since disclosure at this time if any unfair competitive important advantage to a person or persons whose personal private interests are adverse to the general public interest and to confer with an attorney for the Board of Education concerning disputes involving the board that of the subject of pending or imminent Court action we have four call please Madam chair hi Mr Bauer aye Mrs Walsh hi Mrs dowdell Berger aye Mr Snyder all right the time is 10 26. there will be no more there will be no access right no action after this thank you
