Welcome everybody to our regular board meeting, November board meeting. At this time, we'd like you to stand for a moment of silence, followed by the pledge of allegiance. And now the pledge. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. review of the agenda and adoption of the agenda. >> Um, I like to pull out the consent agenda items, theou between Kentucky River Foothills Development Council and Clark County Public Schools for Ready for Life program. I'd like to hear about it during the meeting. Okay, >> that's number one under the consent agenda. >> Yeah, I see it. Do you want to put it under >> probably since it's Mr. Howard, he could put it
in his um >> superintendent >> report? Yeah. Is that okay, Mr. Howard? >> Absolutely. >> Okay. >> So, you want to vote on it separate? >> Well, we don't I don't Yeah. Well, it's not just that. I just want to hear about it. Um, but >> so we can leave it where it's at, can't we? And then just have him >> Yeah, he could go over it in a superintendent report if you if you don't want to vote on it separately. I mean, that's not I just want to hear about it. >> Okay. So, can we So, we did we don't need to amend the agenda since we're not moving it. >> I think so. >> Anything else? If not, would anybody like to make a motion to adopt the agenda? >> I'll make a
motion. >> Motion by Miss Thomas. >> Second by Mr. Kaiser. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppos. >> Motion carries five to zero. >> Consider approval of the minutes from the regular board meeting on October 28th, 2025. >> I'll make a motion to approve the minutes. >> I'll second. >> Motion by Mr. Kaiser, second by Mr. Dorsey. All those in favor say I. >> Oppose. Motion carries 5 to zero. Clark County Public School recognitions. >> I'm sorry. I was checking. >> She paused for dramatic effect. [laughter] >> Good evening. [clears throat] >> This is great to see such a big crowd tonight. So, the Clark County Board of Education greatness recognitions honor outstanding students, staff, and community partners who exemplify one or more of the competencies of the Clark County portrait of
a learner. Portrait of a Clark County learner. Um, so this is we we believe growing greatness in action. So, we're going to start with James Willoughby, our our ATC welding instructor. >> [applause] >> My name is James Willby, Clark County ATC. Um, I nominated Mike Clevenger, who is the operation manager at Link Belt. Mike's greatness is evident in a way that he exemplifies the portrait of Clark County Learner. Be an exceptional community partner. He champions engaged citizen role by tirelessly working to ensure our students graduate with outstanding career opportunities with link belt. Furthermore, he exemplifies the power leader compensy by creating a vision for our students that inspires innovation and fosters a culture of accountability and excellence. This great business partner with Clark County Public Schools. Mr. [applause] picture time. >> Where you going? >>
Center. >> Oh, thank you so much. >> All right, here we go. Three, two, one. Beautiful. Thank you. [applause] everyone. Okay, so I get longwinded sometimes. Sorry. Um, I'm going to tell really quick stories. So, my girls, my little girls, um, came to a football game. They had like a a meet the press and um they had a face painter there and they loved it and we had an idea, Mr. Arms and I, about doing that at all of our home football games. So, I reached out to our art teacher, Miss Fuller, and I asked her, I was like, "You can help us uh face paint." And it was very last minute. When I say last minute, there's one Friday I had to uh it was like about 3:00 and I had to call a
couple of the girls and I was like, "Can you all please can you please come do some face painting?" And even I had to even call some parents and be like, "I don't have any face paint. Can you stop and get some? We'll reimburse you. We'll get some more face paint." So, it was last minute and I we are so thankful for these girls. They came out um they portray engaged citizen, our competency for engaged citizen. They came out and they face painted all the faces of the little kids. It was a huge success. They came to every single home football game and like I said, a lot of the times it was very last minute. So, I appreciate them and I just want to recognize them for their greatness. Emily Bennett, come on up.
[applause] Is Harmony here? >> No, she didn't. >> Harmony Harris was one of them. I want to make sure we say her name. And then Saraphina White. [applause] >> So, I want to point out that back on the table that you might be able to find, there's a lot of people here. Yes, there are some folders. If you don't want your certificate to get wet, you are welcome to take one of those and put your certificate in it. >> Are we ready? Three, two, one. >> Lovely. Thank you all so much. >> Appreciate you all. >> Thank you all. Thank you, [applause] >> M. Jackson, principal at Sheer Elementary. >> If you have never been in a cafeteria full of elementary students, you are missing out. You will have to stop and see us. Um
tonight I want to recognize um two staff members that um truly are empowered leaders. Corey Vcraft and Tabitha Codle are truly empowered leaders and they exemplify greatness at Sheer Elementary. Their immediate response to a student who was choking um culminating in the successful administration of the HL maneuver was [clears throat] nothing short of heroic. Their ability to remain calm and execute the proper procedure in a stressful high stakes moment most certainly save the day and more importantly a student's life. This profound act goes far beyond standard duty. It serves as a powerful testament to their role as empowered leaders within our school. Thank you ladies. [applause] >> [laughter] >> Great. All right. Three, two, one. [applause] We now have one of our We have one of our gifted teachers, Rachel Michael. >> Hello. I am
nominating Michelle Kase for district level recognition as an empowered leader because of her expertise with GT learners advocacy for students rights and her mantra to try take risks fail and learn which has inspired me to grow and reflect authentically. She exemplifies greatness by encouraging risk takingaking and authentic growth supporting me when a space lesson I designed initially thought which ultimately led to my students winning a state competition mentoring her staff with care and guidance. Her commitment to continuous learning along with modeling balance and support has made me a better teacher and inspired those all around her to as well. [applause] [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Great. Thank you. >> Thank you. I know you know she [laughter] >> I'm going to be her husband at this >> m teacher at GRC a departmently just one of
them. All right. So I'm Terry Pig. I teach a at the high school. Uh this is Mr. Knight. He also is teaching a up there as well. Um we're honored tonight because we get to recognize a couple of kids who did some pretty amazing things for our chapter this year. And so we'll start with a communications. Um our ad communications team which was Abby Horn, Colehorn, Heidi Castle, and Leila Snell at the state. And then Megan filled in for us at national convention. um use their skills they learned in ad communications and ACT business classes along with some of them that have been in smoke signals with Miss Crosby uh to compete at the state a communications contest in June. This is the first time our chapter had ever competed in this and we won.
So they did a fantastic job representing us. Then we went on to compete at national MFA convention this October in Indianapolis. Um and they earned a silver rating at the national contest. So, which is really big. This year was our first year of having teams compete from Clark County at the national contest. So, if they will come up front, we'll give them a shift. [applause] I was in your [laughter] >> Oh, I laugh so many nervous horn. Yeah, >> sorry. I did miss you. Can't believe you guys came back. >> This is how committed there are couple of college. >> Great thing I >> He does some good things. >> [clears throat] >> Yeah. >> Congratulations, guys. Absolutely. [applause] >> So, not only were we blessed to have one team win a state contest this
year and go to national convention, but we actually had two. And so Olivia Warner, Allison Asherwood, Taylor Cavil, and Cole Horn at the state. And then Caitlin Sidwell filled in for us um at the national contest. But they use skills they learned in animal science and equin science on judging horses to compete at the state contest last November, winning it. And then they went on to compete at the national FFA contest in Indianapolis. Um as a team, they earned a silver rating, so they represented us very well. Olivia Warner earned a gold rating individually and also earned an industry certification to actually professionally judge horses. Um, these studies students embody the portrait of a learner and I'm proud to recognize them as empowered leaders, effective communicators, and engaged citizens. All right, here we go. >>
Now we have Mr. Arms, George Rogers Clark, principal. >> Good evening. Um, [clears throat] this individual does a tremendous job with our schools FFA program. Her greatness collectively is embodied in the many works that are conducted within both the school as well as the community. under her guidance such as uh with the events at Clark County Fair Care, the all-in for a week as well as beautifification projects around the school, production of school merchandise and operating the school store as well as staff celebrations is very visible. The list of things that this individual does could go on and on. Her passion for a as well as GRC and Clark County are second to none. Although I've only officially been here a few months, her dedication to both her students and the school are showcased daily.
We are beyond blessed to have her leadership ability in Clark County Public Schools. And because of this individual, much like in agriculture, we are able to cultivate and grow greatness. And the individual is Mr. Hig. [applause] I know her. >> Thank you. Superintendent Veterans Art Contest, Miss Christy Bush. Good evening. Tonight we are honored to celebrate those that have participated in the annual superintendent Veterans Day art contest. We also want to thank the schools, the art teachers, the social studies teachers that helped do this at the school level and then they bring it to the district level for the overall winner. Students, if you would come up when your name is called, I'm going to let you hold your frame picture. That will be presented outside for a year. And then we also have a
certificate. So, if you will stay up here for a picture with Mrs. Crosby and the superintendent. Okay. Mr. Bennett Conrite. Mr. [applause] is from our preschool. [laughter] >> Oh, can you help me? >> Hold your picture for him. If we could have Miss Trinity Watson and I think Miss Haley Johnson is here today representing Congrat. >> All right. Ready? Hold on. Take a bird picture. >> We'll come back up here in a minute. [applause] There we go. >> Hold on. Sorry. I'm sorry. >> Mr. Kase Null from elementary. [applause] All right, we're good now. >> Miss [clears throat] Dora HATTON [applause] got it. Oh, there it is. Okay, >> ABIGAIL. [applause] All the tours were open. >> Is that okay? Okay. Ready. >> Mr. Jeff Taylor. [applause] Miss Brooklyn Dickerson from RBC. [applause] >> Every
year we have representatives from every school and then the participants are looked at for an overall district. >> Gets the glare off the lights. Okay. >> All right. Great. Can you tilt it down? Pull it back with your hand. >> Okay, here we go. >> Miss Brooklyn doesn't know this, but she has been awarded the district superintendent winner for Clark County public schools. Let me hold this for you. [laughter] >> She was trying. >> Congratulations. You want to stay here for a moment? She wants a picture with everybody. You want me to hold their picture? All right. You want to just hold? >> Yeah, let's hold this. Aren't they beautiful? >> Okay, if you could tilt them toward down the top more down, it gets that glare from the lights off of it. >> There
we go. >> Not down too far, but there you go. Everybody looking at me? >> Okay, great. >> All right. [applause] I'll take this. >> Well, you can get it back next year. How's that? >> Thank you, Mr. Congratulations. Y >> student support services >> consider approval of the 2027 2028 school calendar. J King. >> So, Mr. Mr. King's not available this evening. So, Mr. Watkins, as soon as >> he's stuck up there. >> He may or may not be becoming a grand father again this evening, >> Mr. King. So, >> that's a big deal. >> It's kind of a big deal. So, he's I told him to take care of that. We take care of the calendar. >> Yeah. >> Felt like a fair tra. Well, >> congratulations to him, >> man. Next time,
let's not do orange. >> You don't like orange? >> I think orange is one I liked. >> No, I just mean the color. >> Just the colors when we like pick a different. >> So, so what you're going to see in front of you is a couple different calendar options. Um, calendar committee has been meeting for several months. I kind of beat it up for you there, Mr. >> Yeah, Mr. Keane is not here. Um, he is expecting the birth of a granddaughter really soon. So, uh, you have two options for the calendar. Um, purple and orange. Really, the main differences are the start date, end date on both of them. [snorts] One little earlier start, earlier end, one that's a little later start and end. Do we have any idea like what the cal
the parent representation on the calendar committee thought about the >> so that we we surveyed you know we sent out multiple surveys uh throughout the year just like we have in previous years um [clears throat] it was ended up being pretty much split you know evenly some people like the half week you know of Thanksgiving while with the full weeks of spring and all while others like just the full week all the way around. You know, uh there wasn't really any, you know, consistent like overwhelming majority anywhere. So, I I initially thought I missed the last meeting, but I initially thought we were going to have one uh one calendar that had the full week of Thanksgiving and one that only had the partial, but looks like they kind of pushed towards that. that partial
week of Thanksgiving and the full week during the spring and fall break and Christmas, but I think that was other than that the only like Brandon said the only differences were the start and finish dates. >> I kind of like the amount of days in the semester better on the purple counter than I do on the orange counter. Orange counter's a lot less days in the first semester compared to second semester. Purple is the one where they start a little earlier and they get out a little earlier. Right. Is that purple? >> Yeah, that's that's the one I like. But I have a question. Why did you all put the fall break the first week of October instead of the other mid a little bit? >> I suppose on both of them you did that.
>> I think it align I want to say that they align with other other districts or something. I'm pretty sure that the the break dates aligned with other districts and they try to kind of mock them with those. So, if anybody had students in other districts or family in other districts they were traveling with. >> I do think it I do remember that conversation. I do think it aligned with other districts and I I know the later one kind of hit, you know, fall sports tryyouts and things like that. So some of the feedback I think or comments on the committees it would be before that instead of in the middle of like you know tryyouts for for winter sports and things like that. Um Jaime's notes were that you know it like Mr. Dorson
said the feedback was kind of split. Um I think everybody like different aspects of each one and really the only only difference is you know the start and end day. there's a few more days in the semester um with the latter start date in the spring semester. So, >> and there's there's pros and cons to both. Um, you know, some some people like a little bit of a later start date to be able to uh have a little more time to, you know, get prepared and stuff once you hit August. Some people like getting out a little bit earlier. Um, I think both give us room to to get out before Memorial Day, which is ultimately the goal. Spring sports are always playing there at the end. Um, you know, when the school gets out
super early, they're, you know, they still have, you know, a lot of their postseason left. And like I said, there's there's pros and cons that we could go into, you know, for for an hour probably on both. But >> the only thing about getting up earlier is that like if you have summer or summer school or whatever you call it now, >> literacy camp maybe. >> Yeah. Literacy lift off. >> Then you'd have a little more time for that. get out a little earlier. >> Yeah. From from from my chair, we will make whatever work. My staff and I are going to work our tails off for kids >> no matter what. So, I I don't have a recommendation really. I I leave it up to to the board on what you guys want us
most. >> From a mom's point of view, I like having my child home a little longer in the summer in August cuz that's when they can swim, they can do more summer. So, seems to go by too quick anyway. Plus, we are struggling right now. We are tired at my house. I don't know about so the 78 days seems a little this is rough >> and I think a lot of that ends up even and out with testing and other items too in that second semester. >> Well then you're the other parent with ch child in the system. What do you which one do you >> uh I mean to me it they are pretty close to the same. I would, you know, I like the the starting a little bit earlier just to get
out a little earlier, but that's just a personal preference. >> But I mean, I don't I don't really see any major differences between these two. >> Yeah. And just so folks know the the purple calendar looks like our first day for students would be on August the 11th and the orange calendar the first day would be on the 18th. So you're basically talking about a week apart. >> Yeah. The same on the end date. >> Same on the end date. So >> yeah, 18th is the last day on purple. 25th is last day of the morning. >> Teachers on the purple teachers would start working that first week of August with open day being on the sixth. Scroll down. >> The last day of school would be the 18th there for students. Focusing day on
the 19th and go to the one on the orange. Uh scroll up August. August teachers would start the second week with open day being on the 13th on the Friday. Two teacher work days and start on the 18th. And then in May the last day for students would be the 25th. You got close today Friday 26. And [clears throat] going back to what you said, Dora, I think another one of the reasons why they pushed uh that fall break back a little bit is because they wanted a lot of the teachers felt like that they were coming back from that and they were turning around and leaving again, right? You know, so they really couldn't get a lot done between those that time frame between, you know, October and November. So, it was it was
just a little kind of a balance between those two things trying to find at least some enough time to get some >> instructional learning in >> from a staff. Did you say the staff was split 50/50? >> Well, yeah, it wasn't just I mean the survey went out to basically all Clark County community members and their emails. Uh it was posted in multiple different places, but the staff also a lot of the staff members filled it out too. So, and then of course the the committee is made up of multiple teachers uh community members a board rep and uh you know Jamie and there's five or six different teachers and other parents that that attend as well. So, but they were all kind of split. I mean, there were there were some that were on
one end of the spectrum where they wanted to have that full week, you know, and and start certain days or and others that they wanted the exact opposite. I mean, it wasn't, like I said, it wasn't an o overwhelming consensus one way or the other. It was just kind of hit and miss. >> One of the things too to think about is all of our schools have open house back to school nights prior to school start. on the early one. It would it would be early. You know, you're going to look at some of those right at the end of July. Yeah. >> The orange one would give them a little more more time to get those in in August. So, I like orange. >> I like orange. >> And I'll go with Yeah. I
I don't really care if this >> I just I heard what Ashley said there about the days 78 days, but then you look at your second semester, you got 94 days if you go with the orange. >> No. No. And it'll be a struggle. >> That's And like I said, I don't I don't have a preference other than I like the even days a little better. But >> yeah, it really depends. Again, we're looking at the the >> But every one of us going 28, so we're two years out. I'm I'm I'm pretty good at a lot of things predicting the weather in general I'm not great at few years out. >> So one of the reason I say that faciciously to say sometimes we do back in the second semester with more days because
any NI day that we take we don't make up and so that will start dropping the number of days of instruction on top of the fact we do have 15 days that we can do state testing. So that takes the number of instructional days off as well. Um where we'll be testing at least five to seven days depending on makeups. So it does when you're looking at days you have to also look at what are we doing on those days. Whereas uh in the fall we really try to limit uh we don't have any state testing right now. >> Yeah. Even even with the purple and the 89 in the second semester you have to take those testing days away. Correct. >> And any NI days. So, you're still ending up with an offset number
of days one way or the other. >> Well, I'm good with either one. >> Well, I make a motion to approve the orange draft calendar. >> Motion by Miss Hall for orange. >> I'll second that. >> Second by Miss Thomas. All those in favor say I. I. opposed. Motion carries five and zero. Acknowledgement of procedure 09.123 AP.2 revisions. Same thing for Mr. King being away. He asked that I step up. So this is the uh procedure for our educational cancer opportunity days. We just changed the wording at the top. Instead of requiring families to submit a [clears throat] week in advance, we just put prior notice, >> which is >> good for some of us that are not very prepared. >> We always have that opportunity. >> You going to say anything? >> Not me.
>> Yeah, >> definitely not me. Guilty of that. >> Yeah, I was just guilty of that. I had to call Dustin. >> I [laughter] don't think we have to vote on it. >> No, it's an acknowledgement. >> Thank you. Consider approval of BG2 and BG3 for the roof renovations at Baker Intermediate and Robert Campbell. So last last meeting we approved the BG1 uh which is initial document to begin the the renovation uh take the steps to uh begin the renovation. Mr. Buckner is here tonight. The BG2 and the BG3 for the roof projects at RDC and Baker just contain more of the financial information. uh and things like that uh that you all have. Anything you want to add on that? >> The only thing that I would add both of those is the numbers
on so the BG2 just has uh kind of a general outline specification. It's just kind of an early take on kind of total project parameters and some more specific information about um systems. Uh so our engineers have filled out the the following pages on there. Um, on the BG3 forms, um, we we break those out just slightly differently than we do on the BG1 in terms of being able to show the differences between general construction and in the case if you had HBAC, plumbing work, things like that, kind of break those costs out separately. Those numbers align with the BG1 numbers with the exception of the CM fee. So the construction manager fee now that Kodell is on board, there's a CM fee that's attached both for the BG3 on the roof projects as well
as one for the renovations work over at RDC. So those are the only two things that you see and that's what affects that kind of end total number there. It's just to factor that in now that they officially on on board. >> These are just documents that are required by KD is the next step once uh you approve these and then um uh Mr. Runner is going to talk about uh the designs that are that you guys have copies of as well. Then the next step once approved is we'll get those ready to go out to be bid on by companies and then we'll come back to the board, share those and be ready to make some decisions hopefully. So, right now, based on the schedule that we're looking at, the two roof projects, I'll
be coming back here next month to approve hopefully approve the construction documents for both of those projects. That will allow us to um send those out to the plan rooms for biders to pick up and start reviewing pricing um with an intended bid opening um towards the end of January. um then we'll come back and and have those approved um at a board meeting that at that time. Um for the RDC project, the renovations, we're probably going to push that slightly into January uh for getting the construction documents approved by the board. We're still waiting on site survey. So, uh we anticipate to have that in December. Um, but that will allow us to kind of increase a little bit of a buffer time there and it still allows for plenty of time on the
back end for the contractors to mobilize and get started and take advantage of spring break um if they want to for any kind of early demolition work while students are out of the building. Um, that will not affect um in terms of you know their ability to perform work over the summer like that. So, um I would say as long as we have those things the RDC portion bid uh by February, end of February, uh we would be in really good shape uh for the for the project schedule. So, aiming for January right now, but for approved projects, we'll have those out the summer. And again, we're we've included alternates on all of those to where bids come back lower and we want to add in alternates, we can things come back higher, we don't
have to take, you know, some of the alternates. So that way the board has some choice on that. >> Any [snorts] questions? >> I make a motion to approve of the BG2 and BG3 for the roof renovations at Baker and Robert de Camp. >> Motion by Mr. Kaiser. >> I'll second. >> Second by Mr. Dorsy. All those in favor say I. >> Oppos. Motion carries 5 Z. Consider approval of BG2 and BG3. Uh, sorry, lost my place. For the miscellaneous renovations at Baker Intermediate and Robert B. Campbell. Same thing except these numbers are specific to that uh heating and air work at RDC, some of the alternates with doors and windows and some of the uh work there to athletic facilities that we discussed. Any questions? >> No. I'll make a motion to approve the
PG2 and three for the miscellaneous renovations of favor and RDC. >> Motion by Mr. Dorsy. I'll >> Second by Mr. Kaiser. All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed. >> Motion carries five to zero. >> I'm excited to see that work when it comes. >> I am too. >> I'm ready. >> I am too. Consider approval of the design development documents for the roof renovations and mis miscellaneous renovations at Bakery Intermediate and Robert D. Campbell. So, we have we have two sets of drawings. We've got the the DD package, the design development package for uh roof projects um and then a separate package that's for the RDC renovations. So, um, on the roof work, you know, we've we've just kind of continued on not notating things. As far as the roof work, we're really
more more or less in construction documents at this point. Um, and wrapping those up here in the next few weeks. So, um, there is not a whole lot to kind of go through on those two other than what we've talked about before. Um, we can just kind of flip through them really quickly to kind of see the the status of them. Um the difference when we get to the set of drawings for um RDC the the renovations there is that we've started to fold in some of the consulting drawings from Shoutate Wilson for um MEP systems on that on that part of the building. Um and we've we've got everything documented from the infrared roof scans um that were conducted where we're shown those darker gray areas are what they're going to remove down the
deck um and come back in over with a new roofing system. So that's the basically the update for those both of those projects in terms of completion level um is is is past design development at this point. Um but just trying to kind of keep things on a on a month-to-month schedule with with the approval. So >> those shaded areas you just talked about where we got to go all the way down the deck. >> Is that pretty much where you thought we was going to be? Is there more than >> based on the conversations that we had prior to doing the infrared scan, we knew where some of the problems problem areas were based on where we had some ongoing leaks and kind of moisture and um so there was areas that were kind
of red flags initially. Um spray techch who conducted the infrared scan had also done some previous work where they were doing some patching work up there anyway. So they were already kind of familiar with some of the areas that they knew had some issues. Um but yes, as far as as far as we were concerned, it was not a surprise um in terms of the the mount and the specific areas that would need to be uh remediated. >> Okay. >> Any more questions? If not, would anybody like to make a motion? >> I'll make a motion for the approval of the design development. >> Motion by Mr. Kaiser. >> I'll second. Second by Miss Thomas. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Oppos. Motion carries 5. >> Thank you all. You're welcome. >>
All right. Acknowledgement of monthly CCPS financial update. >> His brain supposed to be doing that. >> No, this one's going to be me. >> Okay. Um, so Miss Ellis is actually at a conference. She's a a board officer uh at the finance director's conference, CASBO. So she had to go represent the district down there. So we should have her presentation. Oh, there it is. Um, [cough] >> we'll just kind of go through this. Can you stand up there? I don't see another. I don't think it got uploaded to the doesn't look like. All right, we'll go up here. Um, so basically what we've done is we compared our our actual budget from 26 to our our general budget. This is a slide we went over before where you can see still our contingencies at 6.3.
So we're sound there. Recommendation is is over 2%. They like five. We like more like six to 10. So 6.3 is where we're at. Um we still do have some money generally set aside for projects such as furniture replacement roofs, things like that. That's a 700,000. Um we're running a very very very balanced budget. So even for my protection last year, we're in excess of about 300,000 from the draft budget. So good to go. There we go. Um, as you can see, um, our property taxes comparisons, we're kind of right where we need to be. Uh, the the sheriff actually delivered a sizable check, almost 80% of our tax base for early tax collection, almost $18 million. We have that in the bank now, which is also a good thing as we continue to run
the budget for this year. And then these are the reports that she has will be approving through like I said the property of almost 85%. That was that was really because most people pay their property taxes early so they can get that 2% discount which we don't budget for but the public benefits from 2% discount. So >> all right any questions? >> Any questions? >> I went with brevity on that. There there's a slide that says discussion thermal image security cameras and demo of Is that the next thing? >> That's on the next one. Yes. [clears throat] >> Okay. >> Authorize payment of salaries and accounts payable. >> I make ahead to approve. >> Motion by Miss Hall. Oh, [clears throat] >> second by Mr. Kaiser. All those in favor say I. I >> opposed.
Motion carries 5 to zero. Consider approval of BG4 for thermal engine. Oh my gosh. Image security cameras BG21-041. >> So all all we're doing with this particular project is is closing it out. Um so it's one of the ones that has been open. Uh BG's one, twos, and three is the ones we're actively working on. Four is the ones we're closing out and make it official. So that's that's what you have in front of you with that. So, where is the thermal imaging? Which where's this at? >> So, this one was from um during the pandemic. Uh this was when they bought the thermal imaging systems for each building to check to see if you had a temperature. >> So, that's how far this one goes back. But we're closing that out. >> Are they
all still up in the building? Um, we don't use any of them. >> Awesome. >> Great. >> I know RDC has one in their front door. >> They do a couple of them up. >> Yeah. >> Then maybe drop a pin. That's [clears throat] >> I have dropped many pins. >> All right. Would anybody like to make a motion? Oh, sorry. You got a question? I was no I was just going to say I make make a motion to approve BG4 for thermal image security cameras. >> Motion by Miss Hall. >> I'll second. >> Second by Mr. Dorsy. All those in favor say I. >> I oppose. Motion carries 5 to zero. Consider approval of BG4 for demo of Aerrol coding building BG19-157. >> So this is very similar. This is a project started years
ago. Um, we're just closing it out. It's the property over where the the current maintenance building is. It used to be a Erico building there. Correct. >> Okay. >> So, they demolished it. We ended up using that concrete pad to build our current maintenance building. Um, when they did that and bought that property, they it was actually one of the sites they were looking at the preschool build. Uh but when the engineers came back and did site tests, um a previous board decided to build it somewhere else. Uh but we we've really done a pretty good job of using that property and and moving our tire maintenance department out there. So, but we're just closing that project out. I'll make a motion to approve. >> Motion by Mr. Ker. >> I'll second. >> Second by
Mr. Dorsey. All those in favor say I. >> Oppos. Motion carries 5 to zero. superintendent report and the first consent item. >> Sure. So, I'll talk about um theouous for the uh Kentucky River Foothills Development Council. I had a a meeting with uh Mr. Rhoden um who has done a lot of work, actually worked here in Clark County. They've received a a pretty significant grant. Um and we were one of a couple counties that they really wanted to work with. Um, so we met with uh myself and a couple folks in in my office and really looked at how we were going to use the grant, but it's essentially a 9 through 12 grade. Um, it focuses on workforce readiness, uh, targeting students. Um, of course, we have a lot of different programs and programming.
We kind of see it as an extension of DAG and actually kind of I think we're going to pilot it if the board approves it with students at Phoenix um to provide groups that focus on job and career advancement, financial literacy, uh healthy relationships, uh dealing with stress, anxiety, um and it's it's free for us. They come in and provide the programming to groups. Um, and I think eventually we would like to expand it to to some of our students at the high school, but I think um, like I said, we're we're we're excited. They also I think kind of track students also with their with their programming and growth. [clears throat] >> You have any questions? >> No, that's wonderful. I just wanted to >> Yep. Um, as far as updates, we've got uh
several. um KSI state testing um is under embargoed um so if uh and when uh the board will get you guys to sign some non-disclosure agreements and we'll talk about that a little bit later but it actually gets released tonight at 12:01 uh we're going to we always celebrate growing greatness uh still embargoed but we're going to celebrate growing greatness uh a little bit more uh tomorrow um we'll send out some information to the staff tonight uh late tonight so they can get the first glimpse and then we'll release everything publicly uh tomorrow morning probably about 7:00 in the morning uh through IC parent square u all of our social media facial page so uh the board will actually get a presentation from Miss Fifth and myself uh at the December meeting to go into
great details but we'll we'll we'll release kind of highlights and and things like that uh starting to close session and moving into tomorrow morning. Um We've already started working on our school improvement plans and our school and our district comprehensive improvement plans. So, we'll continue to work that data in. Those are due to be set and done uh by January 1. Uh then we'll review those with the board in January. Um holiday meals started today. They continue uh in every building the rest of the week. Big shout out RDC. I made >> 993. >> How many? 993 >> 993. [applause] >> It was really good. >> And and that's extra meals, correct? >> Yes, sir. >> That's for That's the folks that came in and and broke bread with us today. 900 plus families came
and Roberty D. Campbell today. Uh so big shout out to Miss Smith, her team, but also the district team. We had people everywhere. Oh, there's Miss Smith back there. She wasn't stressed at all. I I I witnessed calmness in her face today. Um but every school will be doing that. Just shout out to again to Dr. Muny's theme of food services. This is just another great example of our district and our community um joining together as one to grow greatness. Literally growing kids with feeding them uh in our schools. Uh couple other things I want to highlight. Uh the amazing shake uh is rolling on. This is a program that uh we really highlight our portrait of the learner. um things that we focused on at the beginning of the meeting like being an empowered
leader, a resilient learner, an effective communicator, a reflective innovator, an engaged citizen, and a committed collaborator. Uh we set up a competition for students fifth grade through 8th grade. Uh to showcase those skills, uh they practice them, we teach them, they teach the amazing shake is not a dance contest. It's actually talking about an amazing handshake and the power of shaking hands and being able to communicate. Um so uh the gauntlet uh went very well. Uh we had two special guests. We had the commissioner of education, Dr. Fletcher joined us in the morning and then followed that up with the lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky came to check out some things we were doing, Miss Jaclyn Coleman. So, um, the highlight to me though was not our guests, no offense to our guests,
it was our students and watching them and our community members and all of our volunteers that worked all 20 stations from parents to uh local politicians to just general community and business members. Uh, seeing our our our whole um the entirety of our community come together to grow greatness in our kids. Uh, continued today with it was a work the room event out at East Kentucky Powers. got our kids off campus. Um I thought it went extremely well. Uh we also the third round will be a collaboration with BCTC which is our local community college. Um the theme is circle of doom. I don't want to give too many details away but our kids will be put through some other um obstacles opportunities. Um then on Thursday, Halls on the River will be hosting a
fourth round which is a lunch business meeting. So, our kids will actually have to eat while communicating. Um, which is a skill set that we don't practice enough because a lot of times in the real world we have business meetings over at lunch or dinner. Um, so we're really excited to partner with with Halls on that. And then last but not least, the finalists will be on Fox 56 uh where they will do interviews and Fox 56 staff will pick the winners of the Amazing Shake. Um, so again, leaning very heavily into our vision and mission of connecting our community and our school district to grow greatness. Um, something I'm going to give the board and and kind of the district in general a heads up and and being apprised of in alignment with that
district vision which I've said now three or four times because everything we do now aligns to that uh connecting our district and our community as one of greatness in our students. We're looking at using uh the Hannah Mccclure building as a community center. Um so we've been working working on different ideas uh getting the building ready um repurposing uh because as we we put out surveys with community education we realize our community is yearning for more spots to gather to meet to have community meetings. Um, and this building we think will work perfectly with that vision while also running our all of our community ed classes uh through Hannah McCclure. That way we don't have to compete with times of buildings or open up buildings, it'll be there for our community. Um, so I'll be
bringing this back to you guys in December. Thinking about uh a name, an official name, whether it's the Hannah Mccclure Community Center, if it's a Cardinal Community Center at Hannah Mccclure, whatever whatever we come up with, we'll get to talk about that. and then in January have a soft opening. So, I wanted to make sure you guys were kind of apprised officially um as we work through that program. That is just a small portion of greatness being grown all over the place here in Clark County. >> Thank you. >> All right. Anybody like to make a motion for the consent agenda items? I make a motion to approve the consent agenda items. >> Motion by Miss Hall. I'll second. >> Second by Miss Thomas. All those in favor say I. I. >> Oppose. Motion carries
five to zero. [clears throat] Adjourn to close session. Anybody make that motion? I'm not reading all that. >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second motion. >> Public comments. Was that over? It was at the beginning that he didn't have >> I was going to be right before Damian and then everybody got up and got >> Did you Did you sign up? >> I didn't. It's the first meeting I've been to. >> Oh, okay. Um, hold on just one second. >> I will say I've had a lot of issues that's brought me to here tonight. I don't say it's been going on three months and I'm asking for help, but this is one time to get in front of somebody because I called even showed up here. I think it was last week I saw
you to talk to Jamie. I was hoping he'd be here. Has nothing to do with uh it has to do with bullying. Really does. And two of your students almost got shot by another parent a week ago because this wasn't stopped. This week would have been a funeral. Not by me. This is another parent lives out trapped. My child has been through the ringer for 3 months now and it's a lot of the bus driver. I' I'd love to talk to you. >> Absolutely. This is the only way I knew to get in front of you to be able to speak to you. >> Yes, sir. >> Ain't working. Talking to teachers ain't working. It's getting bad. >> I I >> I'd love to talk to you this evening after the meeting or whatever. I'll
give you my personal I'll come down and see you in the morning. >> Okay. >> But it's really concerning. It's really concerning. >> Can you be here by about by about 8:30 tomorrow morning? >> I've got three children. I'm a single dad. I'll get them on the bus by 7:40. I think the last one's run, but yeah. >> Okay. I'll be here 8 8:15 in the morning. >> 8:15 I'll meet you here. >> Thank you. >> No, absolutely. I I appreciate you advocating for your kids. >> Sorry that we didn't get you. It's okay here. I don't know how this awards and I'm like >> but I can't not go home and say, "Hey, I I drove here and sit through the whole meeting just to be able to talk, >> right? >> But >>
I will talk to you first thing." >> Thank you. >> Absolutely. >> And we appreciate you coming out to let us know your concerns. I didn't want to ask um >> Yeah. Can you get him to Can you fill out the public comment form before you leave? >> Yeah. >> Just so we have your name and stuff. >> Absolutely. >> All right. Uh Paul, you second that, didn't you? I did. >> Okay. >> So, all those in favor say I. >> Opposed. Motion carries 5 to zero. >> Sorry Paula, I was staring at her waiting. I don't know what I was waiting on. We are in session. We'll take a 5m minute break.
