Board of Education regular meeting to order on 11:18 2025 at 1800 Central W office building. I'd like to welcome everyone. All board members are present. Please stand for the pledgece to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. tonight. >> Yeah. >> Need a motion to approve the agenda if no changes need to be made. >> I move to approve. >> Miss Amanda so moves. >> Second. >> Mr. Jones seconds it. Hearing no discussion. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> All oppose same sign. Public comments. Anyone from the public want to comment? Nobody hearing. No public comments. Moving on to student recognition. We have a student here we like to recognize. And up

here with me, we have a couple of our district colleagues up here. So, I will let them introduce themselves before we recognize our students. >> Christy Batty, um, district health coordinator and district nurse. >> Ashley, >> and Shelley has a speech prepared. >> We do want to recognize a student who helped out on a bus during a medical emergency. We did, you know, a testament to how good some of our students are in Gallatin County. We had a handful of students really step up and help out that day. But we did have one student who just showed exceptional uh care, courage, and dependability. um was a very very big helper to our uh bus driver because in a situation like that where you have several dozen students on the back of the bus, it can

create a chaotic scene and make it a difficult time to drive. I know I can't stand driving sometimes with just two kids in my back seat. So, I can't imagine a medical emergency with 50 plus students back there. So, um we anything anything else that I I kind of left off that you guys want to build off of? she was in a place where, you know, >> I wasn't Yeah, I wasn't able to pull over the bus safely. And so, it really helped me out that she took initiative and started helping and stayed with the student the entire time because we had another incident occur that I needed to take care of. So, once I made sure that student was out of the seizure and that she was okay, we got her to lay down

for a little bit and then when she came to and could sit up, I was able to leave her with her the entire time while I took care of other situations. >> Brillan Combmes is our student who stood up. She's a ninth grader at Galla County High School. And that all I heard that whole next day was how how good of a job she did and being responsible, helping out the kiddo, stayed with that kiddo the whole time and made sure that that kiddo was safe through through everything. So >> very compassionate to her. >> Yeah. So, Miss Fugate, Miss Batty, everybody wanted to come in and and show some love and recognize her for a job well done. So, Brilen, >> good job. >> And a quick shout out to our bus driver. That

is not easy to do in those circumstances. SO, ASHLEY, SMILE. >> One more. Thank you. >> So, Brilan, do you want to be an EMT or a doctor or tell us about your aspirations here? >> No. jeans. She don't know what she was, >> but that just came natural to you. It just happened. >> So, how did you know what to do? Did it just instinct? >> Common sense. >> I like that. >> There you go. >> Okay. >> Shortcoming of that going. >> I think I'm good. >> Mom and dad could be proud of that. >> A lot of them don't have anything. >> I tried to tell her that she needs to go into something. She kept total calm, very compassionate, very just kept her cool and >> took charge like she, you

know, knew she was trying to get to a spot where she could pull over and she just handled herself very well. >> Oh, great. Well, thank you. Nice leadership skills. >> Yes. >> Moving on to board me comments. Thank you. >> Thank you all. >> Board member comments, Miss Becky. >> Well, so you might have seen the ad in the paper that Mr. Arvin and I put in for the onetoone reading program that we're going to start second semester. Um, so this just invites the community to come in and read with a student in lower elementary kind of one- on-one for 20 or 30 minutes a week. Um anyway, my report is we've had about 10 or 12 community people reach out to me. So I'm very excited to get a training together in early

January and get that program kicked off in January and we hope more follow suit just to help our reading our readers just a little one-on-one time. Uh we think it'll make a big difference. That's all. Thank you, >> Miss Amanda for that. >> Okay. >> Um, nothing at this time. >> Miss Ashley, >> Mr. John Jones, >> question. I've been asked by a couple people, so asked question. What's the overall flow chain of command on our custodial staff? Are they hired by principles or supervised by principles or is that done through central office? So for our dayshift people, they go through the principal directly to them with questions and things they need. For our second shift people, they have a head custodian that they go to and then that individual communicates with the principles if

there are issues or principles communicate directly with that individual if there are issues about anything that needs to be addressed. >> And if that doesn't >> are they hired and fired by the principal or is that done central office? Second shift we do uh central office does uh just because they work across all buildings uh but the principles manage the day shift people in the building. >> Okay. All right. There's no big issues. I just was asked by a couple people so I told them I'd find the answer. So that's all I got. I'll reserve. Uh, Miss Griffin. >> Um, so I spoke with a couple of the winner members and they just finished up their cookie dough fundraiser. You were at the blue and white game. They had a table set up. Um, they

not sure exactly how much they made, but they said that they sold over 40 tubs and they were each like 20 something a tub. So that obviously amounts to quite a bit of money for them. Um, so that went pretty well from what I'm gathering. And then um at the blue and white game um I saw really good improvement from the cheer just from last year to this year. And then same thing with the band. They've both just really improved from my eyesight. So I can't really imagine what the community is like. Wow. Like there's a lot of improvements. That's all I have. >> I would agree with those comments. >> Mr. Pretty bushman. Attendance. >> Yes, sir. Enrollment attendance report item 7B. >> All righty. You have the attendance report in front of you.

Dropped a little bit in the last month, but still up about 10 or 11 overall on the year. No real biggies there um of of the data that you're looking in front of you. One thing I would continue to call your attention to is the bottom right to show how our attendance is up compared to to last year in all schools. Um, you know, really proud of of every single one of our schools. All of them have a approximately one percentage higher than this time last year. So, um, I sent I shared that data with school secretaries and principles today just to kind of give them that monthly update. And, um, I think some of the interventions and proactive work that they're doing is is helping. So, kudos to them. Still doing pretty good in

in terms of truency. Um, our numbers are are low compared to last year. Um I know we are coming up on on the six months though. So want to encourage everybody to stay healthy and um that's about it. Has anybody got any questions? >> No. Thank you for bringing that student. That was great. >> Yes ma'am. >> C report Mr. Tony Jury. >> Okay. So ball drops tonight and know all of you's going to set up and at 12:01 push that school report card button so you can see the the new the new school scores um from everyone across the state. So but seriously that that happens tonight. Tomorrow will be the first time everybody can see what we've been seeing since really August. Uh we we knew how our kids did, but now we

know how they ranked and all that kind of stuff, what colors they are. Since this is a public meeting, I can't share that yet. Um, but I can, if it was at 12:01 tonight, we could have had a board meeting. I'd share it with you. Um, but that being said, um, I'll be posting our school our district improvement plan for public review. We'll send you guys the links to that. I would have presented it tonight, but it has those u those KSA things in there that so we can set our new goals and everything. So, we'll send that link to you and we'll get public comment and at our first December board meeting, I'll have that back to you for for your official stamp or questions or anything like that. That's it. Y'all have any

questions for me? >> What is the benefit of the embargo? >> I don't know. >> I mean, who does that benefit? Why do we do that? You know, I think in a small district, >> it's it's not a a huge deal for people to to find out, but but you think about the big districts, that's a lot of information to disseminate. And they they actually have media press that's going to push that out. And so that gives the districts and the media a day, two days to look at that and get those messages the way they want them before they go out. Uh but but really we've had a long time. We just didn't know the the color indicators and the where we rank, you know, like and all that stuff. >> Buy some time

to put the spin on it. >> Spin doctors. Yep. >> All right, >> Becky. I've always wondered what what happens if you break the >> It's an allegation. They'll come after me >> because I'm the one that gets it. >> Well, you already released it to the newspapers, didn't you? No, the media gets it today after one o'clock. They were able to get it. I was going to say something else and I forgot. >> Got nervous. >> Distracted. Screw distracted. >> Oh, so John asked what happens if you break the embargo. >> That's They say it's an allegation, a testing allegation. Really? Yeah. But um >> I don't know. Yeah, >> I've I've often wondered that K I've asked KDA that they've never given me a straight answer as to what would happen somebody with

a certificate they would turn down to uh OEA is what they said and or EPSB and allow EPSB to you know whatever to they got to take training you know >> but I don't have a certificate so I don't really care >> training that's what they'll do I'm pretty sure >> I'll go ahead and say this Monday morning that school report card was wide open to the public for at least three hours. >> Somebody didn't click a button. >> Somebody State Department needs some training. >> Yeah, >> I asked who do I turn in for that allegation and I didn't get any answers cricket. >> You need me to file another complaint against KD. They're hardworking people. It's a new program. We'll get more data than we've ever got. It's disseminated in different ways. Um

I was able to get in there and look at it and I mean I looked at a lot of data. I actually screenshotted a lot of it and pulled up maybe seven other districts and I've already got my graphic, you know, about us being on top. Um, things like that. But it it really breaks it down and gives us some useful data to look at. So, um, >> thank you. >> I was going to say we don't have to put a spin on it this year. That's what I was going to say. We don't have to because the the spin is we did really, you know, a lot better than we have before. We're not satisfied, but we've done a lot better. That kind of validates the hard work. We've always worked hard, but I

feel like we've got all the arrows pointing in the same direction. Now, you remember we went to Plasky County and he said, "Get your arrows going the same way." I feel like we're we're on that track. So, everybody's pulling the wagon in the same direction. >> Great. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Ar. I'm sure you don't want a phone call from Frankfurt. >> I'm Mark. I don't need another one. Um, so, uh, just a few things. Uh, I put a piece of paper if anybody's available Thursday morning at 8:15. Our JAG program jobs for America's graduates that we added at the high school this year. They have to do an official ribbon cutting ceremony. And there's some things that uh, you know, that the steps they have to go through uh, for their program that'll

be happening at 8:15 on Thursday morning. if anybody's available and would like to stop by. Uh we met yesterday after school uh to be able to kind of share some of our KSA results uh with uh staff and anybody that came after they signed the you know non-disclosures, all that good stuff. Uh we'll be able to have some more conversations at our next board meeting, but again, as we've as we've said, we're very excited uh about the progress we've made, but uh job's not done. And I think the phrase I use yesterday was there's still plenty of meat left on the bone and we're we're going to keep after it. So, um, but great great job by by our staff all the way up and down the line. Uh, and then hopefully you got a

chance uh if you scroll to the bottom of the email I sent Friday to see the uh information that's on the display boards uh that were on for the first time at our Blue White game. If not, uh, the link is still in there and it's still active, so go back and check it out when you get time. It's a great way that we can highlight all of the great things that we're doing. Uh, and then just some stuff. I think the biggest hit has been the senior class photos that go all the way back to the 40s. And so, anybody that's seen it has always spent a great deal of time just looking back at the senior classes through the years. So, we've got most of those in there. There are still a few

gaps. Uh the hope is to eventually get all the yearbooks, as many as we can get in the history of Gallatton County High School, uh loaded in there and you'll be able to go in and just kind of swipe and turn the page uh and look through that. So hopefully sometime over the summer we can get that in there. But it's allowed us opportunities to showcase and highlight some of our graduates uh from years past that have gone on to do great things. and we're gradually uh building that list out as we go. So, uh I just I think it's a great window into all the great things about our school system and our community that's on display for anybody to be able to see anytime they step into that gym lobby. So, >> awesome.

>> That's all I've got. >> Thank you, Mr. Arvin. Uh everybody get a chance to look over 7A SPDM minutes. >> Yes. 7F HR actions. >> I need a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> Also move. >> Miss Becky so moves. >> Kudos on the archery equipment. By the way, >> a second. >> Miss Amanda seconds. Any further discussion? >> Hearing no further discussion. All in favor signify by saying I. I. >> All oppose. same sign. Motion carries 50. Item nine, uh, new business 98. Do you approve first reading of school calendar for 2627? Miss Amanda, >> let me get on record by saying Mr. Bushelman is the he's the guy that makes all the money. Right. >> So, uh, he's going to present these two calendars. I must say both of these look

very nice. I'm I'm in favor of either one. Obviously, one is a full fall break, one is a shortened fall break, but I will tell you how many people were set on that committee. >> 10. Roughly 10. >> Around Yeah, I was going to say around a dozen or so. >> Okay. And I'm I'm not in that vote, but every single person was very adamant about a full fall break. There was not one >> that was willing to >> Did we give them New Year's or Super Bowl day after office year? It's on President's Day. >> Yeah, it happened to fall on President's Day. >> Oh, wow. Listen to us. >> What's your recommendation to the board going to be? >> Um, honestly, with everything we have going on in the district, I I am

in favor of the full far. So, option one. >> One is option one. >> Option one. >> So, Miss Amanda's recommendation is for option one. All favor signify by saying I. >> I got a motion. >> Second. >> I'll second her motion. >> Yeah. paying attention. >> I wasn't. I wasn't. >> Amanda's motion was to accept option one. >> Yeah. So, that's the first reading on option one. >> Yes. And John seconded it. >> Now, any further discussions? Hearing no further discussion. All in favor signify saying I. I. >> All oppose. Same sign. Thank you. >> Until next year, Miss >> Good job. I say we just make it that if the Bengals are in the Super Bowl, we take that day off and that'll probably cover us. >> Be good, John. Right. >> I

have to worry about that. >> I think we're good. >> Get caught up here. Uh item 9B entered into executive session regarding KRS61.810. 810 section one paragraph F. Sub paragraph F for discussion of hearing which might lead to the discipline, dismissal or expulsion of a G County student. >> Also move. >> Miss Becky so moves. I second it. All in favor? >> All opposed. We are now into executive session.
