001February 9th, 2026. Miss George >> here. >> Miss Hickden >> here. Miss Williams >> here. >> You have a quorum, Miss Hickden. >> Thank you, Miss Nage. Okay. Our first item on the agenda, discuss and approve the Ibraville Parish School Board monthly financial statements, including the income statement and the revenue and expense summary by fund through January 26. The reports include a comparison of budget to actual for each fund, including a percent to goal per budgeted account within the funds. May I have a motion, please? >> I'll make a motion. >> Miss Williams, >> I'll second that motion. >> Second by Miss George. Mr. Stewart, would you like to >> Yes, ma'am. Good evening. >> Information. Um in the month of January in general fund we received uh estimated $51 million. Um when you consider

002all of our funds we received 72.3 uh within the month of January. Now within all the from June until to date we have received a total of $110 million and in general fund specifically $71.7 million. Um, as as far as it relates to total expenditures to date, we have expense $89.7 million. That's 2 million more than the report shows since to date exceeds the time period of the original report, but I just wanted to give the most up-to-date numbers in relationship to what we're discussing. >> Great. Thank you. You said general. Could you repeat that number again, sir? >> Yes. in in general thawn in January we received 51 million estimated really it's it's uh 50,500,000 and some change um and then when it relates to um all of the funds for the month of

003January we received 72.3 billion. >> Great. Thank you. >> Any comments from the audience? >> Oh I'm sorry. Okay, Dr. I I do want to note that that's not general fund [clears throat] balance. >> No, >> funds that come into the general fund, much of those funds are uh committed. >> Okay. >> They're kind of a budget. We operate uh on a fiscal year of July 1 to June 30. Monthly, we get sales tax revenues. Periodically we get grant reimbursements, you know, which will come from state grants, federal grants, but the vast bulk of funding comes through the property taxes or the avalorum taxes. So those taxes for 2025 were due to be collected by the sheriff by December 31st of 2025. We did receive about 4 million of our 2025 tax collection uh in

004December and then we received an additional payment with 60s something million 64 or so I think in January and then we should get another distribution in February which won't be that big and then each month there's smaller chunks you know real small chunks that would be for delinquencies or penalties or stuff like that. So although it sounds like a whole bunch got put, we have this one time a year that we get that not on a recurring regular basis. So that money technically needs to be split between this fiscal budget half a year and the next fiscal budget half a year, you know. So some of those funds are actually spoken for for 26 all of 26. Okay. Okay. Any comments? Okay, we had a motion. All in favor? >> Uh, unanimous. Okay. Item number

005two is not an action item, so it doesn't require a motion. Discussion only update in relation to progress related to audit findings according to the management's corrective action plan. Mr. Stewart, would you >> Yes, ma'am. There there are five found findings that we're required to to post every month based on the audit uh that we received. And so, um those of those five, three are still in motion. Two have been remedied uh really upon the inception of us knowing that it was an issue. We were able to change our procedures and and fix those uh instantaneously. But as it relates to the capital uh assets and construction in progress, uh I am meeting with the auditors on tomorrow to go through policies and procedures that that they deem to be the the benchmark practice that

006will allow us to to capture some of the the outliers within our construction expenses that that are still being phased into fund 800 but aren't always aren't all to date within fund 800. And so where there may be a change order or a a a random expenditure that is accounted for uh if it's not in a place that pulls as we create our CIP that can be omitted from the CIP. And that that's what this this this bullet or this finding is is trying to encompass. And so when when we meet we're going to talk about some best practices to pull that more with ease. Uh part of that's going to be um pulling all of the the general ledger accounts that relate to key expenditures and then reconciling that back and then uh discerning

007when there is one that's in the gray area of is it a project is it not and then you know in our quarterly meetings uh deciding whether we're going to include that but still keep a uh almost like a spreadsheet with those as well so I can go through that with the auditors to ensure that they can also kind of weigh in on some of those um as it relates to reconciliations uh we're having weekly meetings uh um and in those meetings we talk through the week ahead and and what's owed or what's what needs to be done and we discuss intentional policies and internal procedures to ensure that we we we do things timely. Uh it has been um we have discussed it and we clearly communicated. Um and staff has been advised that

008that we have these these these uh timelines and uh even uh to the degree of corrective action has been discussed on what needs to be done and how it should be done. And so we are actively working together as a team to ensure that this this issue that has been um ongoing for for the last few years is remedied. Um when it relates to budget u we're starting our budget processes a lot earlier. Uh if you Dr. V also emailed about how we're going to be discussing budget this month. Um and so the earlier we start and the more I can I can also meet with it for um some of the data that that is not pulling when we pull uh for the budget itself um we'll be able to uh remedy the the

009few outliers that that didn't get pulled and some of the totals that didn't total uh to the penny um on within the budget. Again on four the procurement that has been remedied and number five the reporting has also already been remedied. >> Okay. Thank you. Any any comments? >> Have a comment. Miss Paul. >> Sure. >> Mr. Stewart, it sounds like the team is working hard on a corrective action plan. Um uh would like for you to know if if there's anything that we can do as a board to uh maybe help with resources for for your team. Don't don't hesitate to ask. >> Thank you. >> Any other comments? >> Okay. Motion to adjurnn, >> Miss George. Second by Miss Williams. Meeting adjourned. February 9th, 2026. Mr. Abeay >> here. >> Miss Laws >>

010here. >> Mr. Tuier >> here. >> You have a quorum. Mr. Tuier. >> All right. and our committee meetings are broadcasting live. To access the live stream, there is a video icon loaded in located in the online meeting agenda and also there is a link located on our district website, Facebook and X, formerly Twitter. Uh, first item up is monthly work order status report for January. Mr. Kagnollettic. >> All right. Good evening everybody. >> All right. Um, so we had 162 work orders that were submitted. We closed 151 and we have right now we have about 41 to 39. We kind of you know running running around that same number every month so far. So u just to tally everything up on average we get I think we finish on average 150 to 200 work

011orders a month you know if you calculate it from when we started calculating it like this. So I'm proud of my guys. >> [snorts] >> All right. Thank you. Any comments from the board from the audience? All right. We'll move along to the project planning list. Mr. Kagalady. >> All right. We're going to go and jump down to Eastville. Everybody knows about the fieldhouse. If y'all have any questions, just please let us know. Right now, it's um things are just working out in their own way. uh the welding shop, the contract and stuff was signed and we should be getting ready. They did start ordering everything because we had a long lead item on the two electrical boxes or the electrical switchboards. So, everything is ordered and they should be starting there pretty soon. The

012East Tavville baseball softball field, um the percentages on here are as accurate as I can get them by the time they did go up since then. If you go out there now, you will see a lot of work being gone on. a, you know, back stops are coming up. The um the dugouts for the softball, the baseball field, you will see it's a little bit behind. That's because we had the sole remediation and so all that's been taken care of and we're going to start things are going to start happening a lot faster now. It's now that we're out of the ground, everything's going back up and it shouldn't it shouldn't be much longer now and you'll start seeing a lot a lot of stuff happen. We got the light poles up. We got we

013got a lot of stuff going on. So, and the parking lot's coming right right shortly, too. So, [snorts and clears throat] all right, we'll jump to uh Ibraville Elementary. The installation of the new boiler. This is the boiler that we had came to y'all about a while back and just kind of mentioned to y'all that it was um we had to get a new one because it kind of went out on us. We patched it up the best way we could to get it running for this winter. We did order a new one. It's on its way right now. Um it's the shipping date was Friday. So it should be here within this week. They are set up to install this particular one and also MSA West because we had the same issue at MSA

014West and we'll talk about that one on the next one. So we will have that one done by the time the students and staff gets back from the Migra break. All right. uh prek admin. The, as you can see, if y'all been out there, the uh rough ends done for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. The electrical tie-ins are done. The sheetrock ceilings done. Final paints about 25%. And we got some door hardware that's coming in. I think a lot of it's been been taken care of at the time of the report. Flooring starts next week. Estimated completion time is 216. So, our goal is to have that area completely done by the time as soon as they get back from the holidays, they can start moving in. That's our goal. And I think we're going

015to do it mechanically wise. We just got to get everything bought up by the fire marshal after that. Uh installation of the new back boiler. This is the one I was talking about earlier. It's on its way too. It was shipped. The shipping date was Friday. So everything should be on site by the 16th and they're going to start installing the same time they do it elementary northville classroom building G looks fantastic. The only issue that we're not really issue but the situation that we're going through right now is with the new elevator and we got to shure up the old wall. It's a it was a problem because the building is so old. We we do have a remedy for it that moving head going towards it and everything is is going to be

016good to go shortly. The new elevator is in. We have some extra work that the fire marshall is requiring us to do. So it it was not part of the original scope. So we had to add it because of the new laws that comes with the with the elevators into an old existing building. >> [snorts] >> Uh, and also the canopies, they are finishing if they're not all way already done. And we'll talk about that more. We may have to add a little section um just because we had to move some things around, but it's no major problems. The track and field football, the locker room renovation, um, right now the rough and peas are are completed. The door and frame installation that is completed. The ceiling frame and Egyp boards, that is all completed.

017>> [snorts] >> The curb installation is completed. The painting is about 50% now. And then everything kind of else. We're waiting on the epoxy flooring and the athletic floor comes after that. And everything should be completed right after the migra break on that one. Pla parking lot looks great. We had a punch list item. It's now completed. And we are still waiting on the new fence to be installed. So I didn't want to shut this this uh project down all the way until that new fence gets in gets put in. It is 360 feet and we're going with the eight foot high and that's the security fence that separates the parking lot through the field. [clears throat] Kitchen renovation it is done. The um it looks fantastic. It works fantastic and we haven't had any

018complaints. We have nothing but great talk all the way from the cafeteria and even into the basketball or the concession stand area right there. Talking about how batting cage is built out. We um y'all will talk about that here pretty shortly. We did open the bids and um we'll get y'all to [snorts] to discuss that and approve it if y'all um deem so. And then the last but not least is the multicampus greenhouse project. The contract was signed and we have our first precon meeting on the 12th and they'll start doing that shortly after the break. Everything has been ordered. We're just going to wait on it to come in. And [snorts] that's all I got. All right. Thank you. Any comments from the board, from the audience? All right. We'll move along to item

019number three. Discuss and approve accepting the lowest bid from the Luster Group in the amount of $487,000 for 2610 M01 Plan High School hitting facility buildout budget of $450,000. Can I get a motion? Motion by Mr. Abbe. >> Second. Second by Miss Laws. Uh Mr. Kagneli, not sure who wants to speak on it. >> I I'll speak. Uh I emailed you this last week once we opened the bids. Uh and if you all remember when we asked you to advertise, I told you then. We had no idea where this was going to come in at. You know, we could have come in lower. It could have come in a lot over. The different estimates that we had gotten were hundreds of thousand dollars apart. So, we felt comfortable with the the budget that we laid

020out of the 450. Uh, and as you saw in the bid tabs, we did have a number of contractors bid on this and the the variance from lowest to highest was well under 100,000. So, we're comfortable with uh with the bids. This is a slightly over budget. Uh, but this has been going on and lingering since 2022. And we are recommending we had budgeted that 450 amount and we do have difference available in funds. So we are recommending to go ahead and uh accept the the high bid low bid, excuse me, and adjust the budget to reflect 487,000. >> All right. Thank you. Any comments from the board? Mr. Aar, >> I just wanted to thank you, Evan, for making this happen, finishing it off. Um, also I wanted to I know one of your

021employees real well, one of your HV AC's and I know he works a lot of times after hours and it all trinkles down from you to your employees. Thank y'all. >> Yes, sir. We got a great team. Great team. >> Any other comments from the board? Comments from the audience? Those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? Passes unanimously. I have a motion to adjurnn. >> All right. Uh motion by Mr. Laws, second by Mr. A. [laughter] >> Thank you. Good evening. I call to order the February 9th, 2026 Gibberville Parish regular school board meeting. A video icon located in the online meeting agenda and a link is located on our district website. Facebook and >> Miss Law >> here. >> Mr. Mlasha >> here. M >> to our care. As we begin this meeting,

022we ask for patience as we listen and humility as we seek what is best for each other. Bless our board, superintendent, administrators. We do reflect your love and contribute to a learning environment rooted in faith. >> Presented by MSAE students, preK3 patients young and prek4. Thank you, Mrs. Laws. And thank you to our and PreK4. Thank you, Mrs. Laws. And thank you to our very own very own MSA East preK students. MSA East PreK students. >> Oh, no. Okay. Okay. >> It is with great pride that I introduce Jaylen Lewis here. Throughout his high school journey, Jaylen has consistently demonstrated integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment with aspirations of becoming an astronaut. He is committed to attending college at Louisiana State University this fall and made dual enrollment coursework as president of senior beta and

023through extracurricular activities such as young entrepreneurs academy the future law high school student of the year. He has been awarded the greater Baton Rouge fair outstanding volunteer scholarship and he is currently in the perseverance. Jaylen stands as a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose and heart. Jaylen Lewis, Ibraville Parish School, February Senior Spotlight. >> Good evening, everyone. First and foremost, I'd like to thank God. I would also like to thank the Ibraville Parish School Board for allowing me this opportunity to be spotlighted for my achievements. I'd like to thank some people that helped Grandma Cali, my godmother and godfather, aunts and uncles, and my sisters and brothers. I'd like to include my grandpa as well since he was a very big influence on my life before he passed. I'd like to

024thank my principal, Dr. Austin, and all my teachers throughout my life. I hope they know that they had a who I am and what I want to do in my life. Again, I'd like to thank everyone for the opportunity to be here today. Please have a good evening. Thank you. >> Congratulations, Jaylen. Next up is the presentation of the quarterly cleanest school award. >> That the maintenance department was responsible for recognizing schools that took pride in keeping campuses clean by awarding the cleanest campus award. We presented the idea to principles at a principal meeting as well as placing all of the information in the principal's newsletter. An outstanding committee was formed to visit campuses and objectively score and rate each campus using the rubric that was created. were Lata Butler, Evan Kagnalleti, Anthony Collins, Senior,

025Chris Mitchell, Skylar Cynica, and Taran Simon. They did an amazing job. So, at this time, I would like to turn it over to our amazing maintenance supervisor, Evan Kaggaliti, and custodial coordinator, Anthony Collins, to tell you a little bit about what they saw and how this process will help us improve our department. and they will present our very first cleanest campus award. >> Thank you so much. Admiration, acknowledgement, value. These are the three words that we had walking into every campus. And it all equal down to appreciation. Sheer appreciation. Not only for the principal, but for the head custodian and her team or his team at every campus. The pride they take when they walk through the door and when they walk out the door. The phone calls they get from either myself or Anthony

026when they got water leaks and we got to call somebody and they got to be the first person on the job. The kids who have a clean place to actually study, to learn, the staff members who have a clean place to teach and to mentor these children. Appreciation for their hard work, dedication to the sanitation and sure cleaniness of each campus. This was very hard. It was not easy. Some of the campus were bigger. Some of campus were smaller. Some of campus were older. Some of campus were younger. But they were all very clean. Some were better than others. There's there's a lot of room to grow and this is our first time doing this award, but it's going to mean so much not only to them, but just to the school pride itself and

027hopefully to the community and [snorts] then it trickles down to the children and to the staff members when everybody takes appreciation of everything they do and accountability. This is going to be an amazing place to not only work but to live, to teach, and to mentor. Mr. Anthony will now present u I don't see anybody here. Is somebody here? Okay, there she is. Okay. I didn't see her walk in the door. All right. So, uh Mr. Anthony will now present the award. And the award goes to White Castle High. I think Mrs. Mrs. Shironda Jones here to present. Unfortunately, our H custodian couldn't be here. She had to take care of some business on campus, but we will be going to her campus in the morning and we're going to take pictures with her as

028well. Good evening everyone. um and couldn't be here because she had a housekeeper out and of course she wanted to make sure that the area was clean. That speaks to her dedication that she often the last one to leave. Um I think that we all take pride in making sure that our campus is clean and safe at all times. It's not just a job for our head custodians, but I'll also speak to the teachers about making sure they keep their classrooms decluttered and clean for the janitors to come in and not have to do so much work. So, it definitely takes a team, but I appreciate it. And I know that I have the best custodial staff in Ibraville Parish, hands down. So, thank you all for the award. It's definitely appreciated. >> Thank you'all.

029Thank you. >> U Mr. Mario. >> Yes, Miss Laws. >> I may have missed it. Uh so how long do they keep this award for? >> Quarterly. >> It's given out quarterly. Okay. I'm sorry. At the end of the third nine weeks, we'll do it again. And at the end of the year, we'll do it for the fourth nine weeks and start back up in August. Look at >> for everybody. >> Good deal. >> Thank you. >> Good. >> Okay. Next up is the consent agenda which will be enacted. Pumpkin Diamond Jr., father-in-law of Mrs. Bette Diamond, school food service accountant at the Iberville Parish School Board office and prek par profofessional at East Ibraville and the January 12th, 2026 regular school board meeting minutes. Do I have a motion? Motion by Thank you. Discuss

030and approve the February 9th, 2026 consent agenda as presented. Any comments from the audience? Any comments from the board? Miss Sage, please. >> Online voting is now open. online voting is now closed. >> Thank you. Next up is the superintendent report. >> Slide that I want to show today is was a very pleasant surprise that Miss Stacy Blanchard brought to he had things put out on social media and so forth. Well, Mr. Cole Domain out here took it upon himself Dominic to uh make this drawing. We do have the drawing down uh on the floor on the easel tonight uh month and co what what I really want to do is when I met him the other Hey, uh, Cole, when I I saw him, I'm like, what grade are you in? He said, ninth

031grade contest as well. So thank you Carl on behalf of the board and man you got a bright future ahead of you and here tonight on the next slide is another update on our enrollment we get funding so that determines how much money we get from the state for various programs for the second half of the school year. Uh on the next slide, last week was National School Counselor Week, you know, uh to put out lots of great positive things for counselors during that time last week. And we certainly with what they do is critical on a daily basis. Since we last met, we got group. This group reflects two different groups. So we do this on two days, 7th through 9th grade and then uh 10th through 12th grade. That way we can have

032them in a smaller group and not have such an age span between them. And we have this year, you know, got to provide us with input but also receive more leadership development. group of students. They're very active uh and great leaders in their schools already and great things to come for these students. And then the following week, we had teacher advisory. Uh we had a very productive session with our teachers on that date. Again, uh we can't thank them enough for the input that this little the pictures that you're looking at now were little group activities for them to kind of talk about. ways that they can help to improve morale on their campuses. Uh I know Miss Williams is glad to sit on the next slide last week. Uh it finally happened everybody. This

033has been in the works for quite some time. Uh and as I mentioned before, several of you uh advocated for this along with a lot of parents in the St. Gabriel community. But we did get help from the parish president, from the sheriff, uh from uh Kayla Klein Peter, the senator, from Chad Brown, who's the former representative on this project, and the parish government did fund these signs that you see up uh there. So, finally, it's there. Later on this month, we begin academy and early childhood registration. Uh this will be online again. and paper applications will be available at all school sites and postcards are going to be mailed to all residents in the parish. And February is rolling by quickly as you can see. Uh we've got some activities coming up uh both

034at the school level and a couple of different ones for you all as a board as well if you peruse through those. Uh that concludes my report. Any questions? >> I I just have one comment. I wanted to thank you for pushing this MSAE school signs on because u I know Katherine, Miss Roy, all of us been I've talked to Mark Graves in charge of the sheriff over there and he was pushing for and contacting the parish and thank you. Keep pushing for it. >> Miss K, >> I appreciate everything and I'm glad we got it now. But I was being selfish. I asked Dr. be why they didn't put it for miles per hour and we talking we thank for anything we thankful for for anything. So it's out there now and I appreciate

035it >> and >> but I just couldn't figure out why it wasn't 25 miles. >> Yeah. To clarify because Miss Williams did ask that question. The Department of Transportation and Development at the state level determines what school zones are designated at which speed depending upon the type of highway it is, how much curvature. It's for a variety of different reasons. And you see like here on the Belleview, I think going in one direction it's 45 and the other direction is 35 or 40, 25, 35. So, it varies uh in depending upon two homes that are close by, but those were the ones that they approved for that particular one, which we're grateful because they didn't want to approve it at all to begin with. >> Yeah. >> Thank you, Dr. Vo. Next up is governance

036business. First up is discuss and approve the February 9th, 2026 finance committee meeting recommendations. There were two items on the agenda. One was an action item. That item pass. Do I have a motion? Motion by Miss Williams, second by Miss Roy. Any comments from the audience? Any comments from the board? Miss Sage? >> Online von is now open. Online voting is now closed. Passes unanimously. Thank you. Number two, discuss and approve the February 9th, 2026 building and grounds committee meeting recommendations. There were three items on the agenda. One was an action item and that item passed. Can I get a motion? Motion by Mr. Touier. Second uh Miss Laws, any comments from the audience? Any comments from the board? >> Sash online voting is now open. >> Online vote is now closed. Passes unanimously. >>

037Thank you. Next up is curriculum and instruction campus operations. First up is discuss and approve the Head Start annual report to the public. Can I get a motion? Motion by Miss Holmes, second by Mrs. Hickden. Miss Kenova. Thank you. There we go. Each year, Head Start requires we create an annual report to the public summarizing the previous year's activity. Some main points in the report concern the budget. Iberville Parish receives $3,274,330 from Head Start. Um, this was for the 2425 school year. The total was spent in the following ways. Salaries 2,45,741. Fringe benefits along with the salaries $676,773. Contracted services which mainly includes our transportation cost $318,627. Supplies $124,749. Travel $42,800 and the category that includes everything else other $65,640. We are funded to serve 280 students with our Head Start dollars. We actually served

038280 students. The percentage of children who are eligible and meet all the requirements is 100% and our average monthly enrollment was 99%. This report must also include the most recent reviews conducted by Head Start, our monitorings. In 2020, we had a phone interview which lasted one week. It was called focus area one, a comprehensive review. The program was found to be compliant in all areas, no deficiencies. In 2022, for focus area 2, they came out in person and visited our sites and looked at records and documents. We received two non-compliant areas that have both been resolved. Uh we did not maintain eligibility determination records that included documentation of how the interview with our parents was conducted in person or phone. All of them were done in person. So the box was not included because that's

039not an option in our program. But without having the box, it was determined to be a deficiency. So the farm has been updated. Um we also were found not to ensure that our facilities where we served our children were free from pollutants, hazard and toxins. So we were not conducting the exact water lead and water testing that was required which all of that has been put into place and we have a lead testing policy. Now, we also must report the number of children who receive yearly upto-date medical and dental checkups. With the help of our family facilitators, we've reached 100% in both of those categories. We must explain how parents are allowed to be involved in our program. And our program offers parents opportunities to attend workshops, pi nights, which stands for parents involved in

040education. They participate in class field trips, serve on our parent committees, and can also be a part of our policy council. We also must include how we get our children ready for kindergarten. In our program, we do this by hiring highly qualified personnel, immersing children in a researchbased curriculum, following federal and state mandates, attending to the social emotional needs of our children, and analyzing data to make informed decisions that meet the individualized needs of all of our students. That is the report. >> Thank you, Miss Kenova. Any comments or questions for Miss Kenova? Any comments from the question from audience? Thank you, Miss Kenova. >> Miss Bon is now open. Online B is now closed. Passes unanimously. >> Thank you. Next up is discuss and approve Head Start policy, council agendas, minutes, reports, and handouts.

041Can I get a motion? >> Motion uh Miss uh Miss George and second by Miss Holmes. Miss Pen. >> Thank you, Mr. McGash. >> You're welcome. Our meeting was held, the Head Start Policy Council meeting was held January 22nd. And as always, the attachments, if Miss Bailey, if you could just go to the attachments, please. Thank you. um all of the attachments. Uh gladly I am reporting that we had no concerns in December. Our safety monitoring we had no critical incidents but of course you know we have babies and so we did have some bumps and scrapes and scratches. Those were just minor incidents. Our attendance report is attached uh 98% attendance 90% enrollment um what's happening in family services and I handed out the um phase one c I handed out the coordinated enrollment

042dates to each of you but it's also posted um online in my report um that the phase one of coordinated enrollment began and January 20th through the 13th. Um just as I reported last month, appointments for registering um are necessary. And the selection criteria form is also attached. We don't have any changes to that from the previous year. Our mental health report is attached. of course our fiscal report, our education manager report and under new business um we um the the parents can do download the application for enrollment but also they are they can pick them up from the school. They will be available. Then they must call the family facilitator of the school and set up an appointment and all the documents must be brought to the appointment to complete the registration. Um our

Also our child care centers and our family child care centers are also uh on the report. It's a lengthy one, I know, but it is it's it's really um exciting to see some of the results. Our growth for our winter benchmark data for 2526 is excellent. And then Miss um Kenova just gave you the Head Start annual report to the public, which I um also have attached to my report. Our next meeting is Thursday, February 20th. >> Thank you, Mrs. Hickden. You're >> welcome. >> Have any comments from the audience? Any comments from the board? 044unanimously. >> Thank you. Next up, new business. Discuss and approve naming the Crescent Elementary Basketball Court after coach Allan Kirkland. Do I have a motion? Motion by Mr. Tuier, second by Mr. Abear. coach. >> All right. Well, let me start off by telling y'all a little bit about Allan Joseph Kirkland, and then y'all can make an informed decision. >> Uh, I had the pleasure of coaching with Coach Kirkland back in 1996, about 30 years ago. I was able to teach at Crescent with him for two years and coach basketball one season with him. So, I think very highly of coach Kirkland. So, this is his uh his long career right here. Alan Joseph Kirkland, a native of Plaean, was born in 1954. He attended Plaeman Elementary, EJ Gay School, and graduated from Plaeman High School

045in 1972. So, he spent his entire school school years in a real parish school system. Um, he taught for 36 years. He's married to Donna Shutzkirkland. Together, they have three children, Dustin, Lindsay, and Leanne, and 11 grandchildren. He began his career on the same campus where he graduated. Um his first teaching assignment was at the old plaque high campus which is known as Copac now. He served as an educator in an innovative program known as school within a school which provided education within a behavioral clinic setting. He taught nth grade civics and Louisiana history. During the time coach Kirkland actively participated in school sporting events. He announced plaque high football game games, coached ninth grade basketball and assisted plaque high coaches with football, basketball, and transporting athletes. In 1979, he had the opportunity to join

046the Crescent faculty as a coach, social studies teacher, and physical education teacher. He then pursued and received a degree in health and physical education and became part of the Crescent faculty. For 30 years he taught at Crescent. He taught Louisiana history and was in the classroom in the morning while teaching physical education in the afternoon. At that time he was responsible for bringing some sports back to life at the school. His coaching duties included head head football coach, basketball coach, and track coach. He was a primary caretaker of the football field and the responsibilities associated with that and responsible for the entire athletic program. Many of the children lived far from school down in Pigeon or Saw and he would always bring them home. They even bought a bus for him to transport students uh

047back home after games and practices. During physical education classes, students qualified for the presidential fitness award and participated in community programs such as jump rope from the heart for the heart to meet the needs of students who grew up in the Bay. He became a certified hunting and boating safety instructor in which they started offering classes for that at Crescent. Coach Kirkland was not just a teacher. He was an educator both on and off the field. Coach Kirkland's commitment did not end after a day of teaching and coaching. He became a certified adult education teacher as well. For 20 years, he would leave the class, coach on the field, and then go teach night school at night so people could get their GED. Um, through his years in education, he remained active in professional organizations,

048and you can see the many organizations he was listed in in his bio um that you all have. Um, I received so many emails about Kirk, Coach Kirkland, and it wasn't just about his teaching and his coaching. It was about how he handled everyday life, taught life lessons, and cared about these children as they were his own. So, in my humble opinion, I definitely think this is a deserving honor to name the court after Allan Kirkland. >> Thank you, coach. Any comments from the board? >> I I'd like to comment. I'm going try to hold it together. Um I played football for him. Seventh, eighth grade at Crescent. Um my dad died when I was seven. I wore braces on my legs for five years to correct them where I had to walk. Soon as

049I got in braces, first thing I want to do is get on the football team. And um eighth grade year I was doing bad my grades and he sat me out for two weeks, got me in tutoring. Uh long story short, I got to play wrestling against EJ Gay. I tackled Peter Villa. He will not admit it to this day. Uh but that was the type of coach he was. You know, no matter who he was, I didn't get in much because I wasn't the most athletic, but I had to keep up my grades. Secondly, that same year, um I was on the practice squad when they practice for games for bad weekly and um I like to hit, you know, so them wide receivers would come through the middle. I played free safety, but

050they jump so high I'd hit them in the ankles, but they didn't like that. They didn't like that too much. And they would they would get on me and stuff. And I I went to coach one afternoon. I said, you know, why are they getting on me? and all I'm doing is trying to make them better for the game. And he I'll never forget what he told me. He it sticks with me the rest of my life. If they had half the heart you had with their athletic ability and he told me, "Whatever you do in life, you stay with that heart you have." And like I said, coach, I can never thank you enough. You're like a father figure to me. Absolutely. Any more comments? Any comments from the audience? >> Mr. Mlasha, we

051did go through the board policy and the procedures that go along with the naming. Uh, and when that process was completed, we are highly recommending your approval for the basketball court naming of Mr. Allan Kirkland for Crescent Elementary School. >> Thank you, Dr. Vron. Coach, I'd just like to make a comment. Thanks for going beyond the call of duty for all the kids and students that you taught here in Ibville Parish. Um for what you've done in your career. We're going to make sure hopefully that you'll never be forgotten. Thank you. >> Any more comments? >> I got some Mario. >> Mr. 2. >> I represent the Bas pigeon area and like tape the amount of calls I've gotten uh over this was overwhelming. So I also would like to echo what they said and

052say thank you. Miss Oage online voting is now open. Online vote is now closed. Passes unanimously. I'd like to call coach coach to come up and say a few words. First of all, thank you for Parish to allow me to teach here 36 years and Tate was 33 years at Crescent instead of 30. Don't short me three. 50 years ago, 50 pounds later, I'm here. And um I'll never forget 1976 I graduated. I married my wonderful wife who as a 44 year veteran teacher of St. John herself. We always say if she didn't teach them I did if they're from Plaan. And Mr. Sam this defana I walked in across the street and he asked me well Kirkland did you get your your degree? I said, "Yeah." And he said, "Well, we don't have a

053teaching position for you, but I guarantee in August we'll find you something." 36 years later, I'm here to thank y'all very much for those opportunities. One note about Crescent is we were a majority to minority or minority to majority transfer school. So, we taught all people of the whole parish. We had East Everville students. We had a whole bus from North Everville. Great student, White Castle. So, we went from a very small rural school and that we our attendance was well over a thousand people at that time. So, I was able to work for everyone in the parish and I really appreciate that. Of course, my wife, there would not be a Coach Kirkland without her. She convinced me to change my major to education. I was in geology and I moved it to social

054studies. And of course, Hutch Marens, who is the longest uh uh assistant coach with me, and coworker Ed Burns. Thank them so much for uh providing this opportunity and recommending to uh Miss Dupoint for this opportunity. Thank y'all very much. Last thing, my family. I had to share many many many nights where I was late getting home and I they shared me as a person and I thank them very much. Thank y'all. Okay. Motion to adjurnn. >> Motion by Mr. Abbe, second by Miss George. We are journ. Thank you.
