I call it a diagram. They're They're They're more curious, too. >> [laughter] >> She's just like waiting for the cold weather. Yes, she is. We're in Well, still crazy. No, that position is open. That position is only open until June. So, I sent them an email today. We have We go to 9. Yeah. I have a child care at He was He was done. He was done probably 10 minutes That's going to have to be up there. No, I have a good place to put that. Is that it? Yeah. I don't have I don't know. I don't know about I don't And And then you That was ready. Someone got a hold of me. Yeah, see we do it for the video. Picture you. Oh, yeah. Bring us all up there for the We actually
Did she say anything about We just start checking. Yeah, I reminded >> We actually about >> operate in private. And that was all right. And then we prepare for I have to bring it up. I don't know. I don't know. That's what my [laughter] mom said. Yes. So, we're not going to What is here? Never mind. Never mind. >> [laughter] >> He said He still when I worked at the bank and I I knocked it out in one second. He was really still there. He was really Yes. One two of them He's on the side of You know, I just I said we should have And I told you I suppose to You can go that way, but We we have to be asked to do it through that and it took them a while.
And he got it I was like It's a long way from I don't I don't know. I don't know. You're not here to I don't know. I hear just like so much going to try to make these things, too. I think You can come in here. You can come If you could write the check. And you can write the Aw, look at you. You just got used to that. Frank will be so excited. Mhm. Do you know about I didn't know that. Can't put that I don't know about it. I don't know. It's still natural for You look great. I might need a snap. I can't imagine I can't imagine that. I can't imagine that. Yeah, I know. You can stop But she did she ask So, we can Yeah, I don't know. I can't
imagine I don't know. I don't know about I don't know about the book. No, I don't know all through there. No, no common sense. No none of that. Yes. Well, that's also invited. You can write a She is And [clears throat] I don't like between the two of them. We can change Get individual points. Who's on You can have Do I need Give me a pair of which I I agree. Oh, my We go to I don't know. Or she might be I don't I don't know about I don't know if you need to I don't know. I don't [laughter] know. Does your phone work? It is Yeah. I already got a child actually to start Okay. I can't say it. You can't do it. You can do it. Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> Give
me a pair of which I associate with All right. Well, I now call this meeting to order. Yes. to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Uh couple things before we start. I wanted to inform everyone that the meeting is being recorded. So, if you have any If you have any comments, please walk to the podium so we can hear you through the microphone. I reviewed the agenda and the only thing that I would like to change is removing the clerk evaluation and table it until May. This all the information is with Lisa. Uh book didn't have any public any public comment, but I'll have a public comment real quick. No? Move it on. Recreational
parks. Um the first thing is that I think the teachers and family pictures I know you guys have your PD committee kind of set now of the five teachers and so we do need to figure out a calendar dates. I don't know if the PD committee is ready to meet. I'll let Kathy talk on that. Do we need a calendar to meet dates? Make my birthday calendar videos. [clears throat] Who's on that? I just don't know who is Who is on the calendar? I don't know. So, it's Mike, me, and Yeah, she said She said put you on it cuz it was supposed to be April 20. Okay. >> [laughter] >> Cuz it was supposed to be April 20. Oh. The date has been moved. Well, we can meet as well, so if you can
>> [clears throat] >> change Are you looking at a calendar with me? You want to pick dates now? It would probably be best cuz I know there's quite a few of you guys that are gone next week and then we're into the last week of April. >> [clears throat] >> And if you guys want to go on a May board, it then has to be done before May 6. I'd prefer it be done before May 6. There's nothing on the 20th right now. I can't. Can't find 20th. No, we have a fire meeting that day. >> [snorts] >> I mean, I can if we're done by 7. Yeah, we can be done by 7. >> [laughter] >> I [clears throat] know I can do it before 7. No. April 20. No. Yeah, we can be
done by 7. >> [clears throat] >> What time are you thinking? I don't know. It's probably best to say I mean, you're looking at 5:30 5:15. Yeah, that works. It goes on April. I think April 20th actually. I read it. All right. Marissa, Carol, and I hope to have all of us. We follow up with you guys. I tried this from my phone tonight. I did. So, the earliest we can do is 5:15, is that right? It would be good. Pick April 20th. Yeah, 5:00 works fine. 5:15 on April 20th would be I should try to see if I can Do you know who is on I'm just going to Miss Carol, did you text us in here or did you email us? I know we talked about it. Oh, I'm I think I I
think I texted it. Tuesday. Tuesday. It was between you [clears throat] and me. But then I also said in an email Marty, Carol, Marissa, Emily, Melanie. So, you're not on it. No. Thank you. Yep. I need Okay. All right. Uh couple just quick things on the superintendent's report. Uh OPI was here and uh our our reading um reading grant um coordinator was here and just in classrooms meetings and and uh going through all of that. Uh and and again, she was uh this is her initial visit. Um she doesn't do any evaluation visit until next year. And so, just uh looking at all the pieces, trying to uh get an idea of all the different things we're doing. Uh we were lucky at the same time we had um SFA and BAR here [clears throat]
as well. And so, they had a chance to like talk through and and kind of lay out a lot of different things and and help us um continue that process forward. Uh so, SFA was here for a couple days and got a chance to work with um staff, but also this committee and myself in particular to lock down um looking at in particular for the PD calendar some PD options trying to make sure staff is is [clears throat] locked in and ready to go for next year and you'll see some of those pieces that getting those orders so that they're here and the staff have an access to that have chance to have those in their hand. Um BAR was here that day as well and then they were actually here our BAR coach was
here today and I had a chance to attend a couple meetings and and work with staff and just continual [clears throat] assisting talking to staff and also helping um Ms. Walker and myself as we continue that implementation. Next week um Ms. Walker and uh Ms. Olson and um Mike and Stacy Ashcraft will be headed to the BAR conference and so lots of good information and we will bring that back to the May um May meeting for that. Last week we had the the Montana Department of Labor and Business here as well and uh had been part of the process I had heard a lot of our about our work with the graduate profile and those pieces and so they were kind of just excited to touch base and do whatever they can do to help
us I'm part of their process is they were recently moved I mean actually recently a couple years ago moved out of OPI into the Department of Labor and Business which gives them a little bit more continuity because they're not changing every time there's a new superintendent and those kind of things and so she she will actually be back this Friday to just just work with teachers to look at the graduate profile and to kind of start unpacking all all the amazing things that teachers are doing just a real good chance to um use some resources that are out there for us as as well so pretty you a lot of exciting things and and every one of those groups that were in our building from OPI to SFA to BAR it's very exciting for me
because they continually talk about um they kind of reiterate some of the things that I feel about how hard our staff is working and how many things are our our staff is doing and and the proof is in the product pudding because the progress is showing with our students and and that so lots of good things going on as well. Ms. Vance is there anything you want to add or I don't know. Sorry I got [laughter] some goodies for you. Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> All right. This is our window two data. Yep. I played you 20 anybody? Anybody? 2020. No, thanks. Come on people. What's up? Here you go. Mhm. Anybody else? Um we don't really have a mic. That's okay. I got a bunch. I got the same one. No, okay. Um those
of you that have that sign I I am impressed with our I guess I am seeing some great growth here so like if you look at um literature three through six window two our level ones decreased by 6% um our level twos decreased by 4% and our level threes increased by 10%. Um over on the other side 25% were level one on the seventh through eighth 62% were level two and 8% were level three. Informational uh reading we decreased our bottom line by 4% for level ones level twos increased by 4% and then um we did decrease by 2% but I mean we grew a lot from last time. And then on the other side seventh through eighth 46% were level one 42% were level two and then level three 3%. Our math is where
we probably saw the most improvement um three through six window standing these are four different five different concepts. So I kind of average them level one 15% but we had a 14% decrease in grades three through six. Good job. Nice job. And then 66% a 10% decrease in level twos and we had 19% of our kids were testing at level threes so that's a big jump from last time and then high school or sorry so seventh through eighth um you may see an increase and a decrease but we still have 25% are only at level one 50% are level two and then 24% are level three. So we're definitely seeing some some growth. So I just wanted to share that with you guys. So any questions? And then we'll have we have to be done
with window three by May 22nd and then we will be maps testing um this whole month coming up Mrs. Hammel and Ms. So we only have to do science test science assessments for fifth and then it goes through the juniors for ACT which is interesting because ACT got removed from the super score on the ACT. So so now they no longer affect the super And I'll have ACT results here. So thanks. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Any questions on the the seventh through eighth No, sir. The reports. All right. >> [clears throat] >> Moving on to policy 3122P attendance. >> [clears throat] >> Can I make a comment on this one? I did not put the additions here because working in February is [clears throat] great if you know what your additions and corrections
are going to be. So all of the additions and corrections that affect 3122P are in the first few pages of the handbook and I just copied them to their own pages behind it. So the eight excuse absences eight day procedures the administrative approved activities the virtual sections all of that comes directly from the small listing so the [clears throat] chunks that are behind it came right out of the student activity handbook that affects policy 3122P. So if we can work on this first then this will get carried into the And that's the thing. It's just really hard to make all of these edits in there if that's not exactly what you're going to accept because that's how the program works. And that discussed the virtual portion of the ACT so we have to add it.
So um we've had a couple different handbook meetings and after the last handbook meeting I was hoping to bring some possibilities for looking at um attendance and addressing attendance through the different pieces. Um so this is a a working working document as far as that to kind of start that that process had had conversations I I would say that there is again no definitive reason that we we did the handbooks in general but that has to be approved um it definitely feels like there needs to be a little bit deeper dive into that um to finalize that uh as you look through that there there were some triggers versus giving some kids some options as well as asynchronous versus virtual and virtual being not virtual teaching but just simply connecting um if they're logging in
they're actually sick or well and they're logging in from home via Google Google Classroom or whatnot. Um teachers are not going to be expected to be teaching a full Zoom lesson but it's a it's the the beginning process of that. Um and then that second piece of [clears throat] that where they're they're not online virtually but they're looking at some sort of assignment or exit ticket to understand the lesson concepts if you will to make sure they got that um looking at the the pieces of again this is a big conversation but uh looking at eight has been our magic number of attendance absences and so looking at their open campus pass considering eligibility uh for games dances you know club leadership any of those kind of things um behavior being behavior and and academics
being academics if you will. Um and then walking through kind of where you know where they are um and again like uh the the idea here is that a kid can't not not never attend if you will but they you utilize up to five asynchronous days or whatever those days may look like but defining that kind of clearing that up um so that kids know exactly what they're what they're working for. Uh but it but a good starting point that [clears throat] again I I would not feel comfortable saying this is um This is not something I would feel comfortable recommending to be approved at this point until it's had more time to be reviewed. Yeah yeah sure. Yeah. Um I'm wondering if we got a response from legal in regards to the committee we
talked about creating. Yes. Mhm okay okay and what did they say? Um Lance said imposing academic sanction for non-academic violations is not likely to survive a constitutional challenge or a challenge under relevant statutes. For example, if a student is proficient in the content regardless of the absence punishing the student academically would violate 20-7-1601 which prohibits any public or private regulation interferes with proficiency-based learning. So that was his response to the administrative approved absences. Can I read that again? Just one second. If anybody sees the remote please let me know and try to stop it. >> [clears throat] >> It's stuck. All right so he didn't really address if it was fine that we had that or No he didn't say anything directly towards the committee he just said the committee cannot impose the academic How
do you word it? violations because that affects proficiency-based learning. I mean I got the remote right here in my hand. That's gone. It looks like it's a I haven't used it in a long time. I love I love the sound of it. So I haven't used it in a long time. Yeah. I feel like allowing students to attend virtually is not meeting And so we're talking about being more effective and allowing them to be excited about being here and implement new changes and hands-on but then we're not allowing them to attend virtually. I just feel like two different things. And I also agree that I think additional work needs to be done on this policy before I 100% agree. If [clears throat] especially if we're going to add in stuff for virtual yeah lessons as
well. Because I don't know a lot of opinions on that that don't exactly match what's in here. But it's too much to get into without Yeah. I agree I think we need another work session meeting but I appreciate you coming to our work session. And um another note I had down just like reading this um I think we need to consider all the changes that have been happening um and to do like one step at a time virtual would be like just another large change and that could be in our future at some point but I'd like to work towards the project-based and proficiency-based first um to make sure we have that in order and that it's going correctly before we add the Those are my thoughts. Any more discussion? I agree with you guys
I think we need to have a work session to get through this and just the handbook. Just for the virtual stuff. >> [laughter] >> Do we have any public comment on the matter? Audience please. Um I would have a lot of struggles with asynchronous learning because what you're saying is each kid would get five days they could miss per semester. So five per student per semester. So I have to get to school I have to figure out who's absent that day set up a Zoom link email them the Zoom link try to upload all their worksheets for them online send it to them email it scan them in like I'm not in. Absolutely not. I'm not going to wait and show up who showed up. I'm not going to wait and see who shows up
that day and then try to plan for them while I try to teach everyone else. I would like to move to a work session. Oh sorry. No it's okay. I took notes [clears throat] while she was Any other comments? Do you have a motion? Um I will move to table this until we get a work session. I second that motion. Do you want to set a date? Or do we want to wait until after the motion passes? What if it's on the 15th? Um I don't think we can I don't think we can hear them so we're going to have to figure that out. It's now a technical problem so you're not going to have to worry about that. Well yeah I think this is going to be Yeah she's going to try to talk
for a while and she's going to get it. I don't want to cut them off. Can you have them go to your main Yeah settings that you do? Oh it's This could be technical the wrong one. Is this It's [clears throat] the audio display. That's why. Those online can you hear us? I can hear you. We can hear you. All right Mike made a motion to table policy 3122P and Sam seconded it. Any public comment? Any more board discussion? Mike made a motion to table policy 3122P and Sam seconded it. All in favor say I. I. I. All opposed same sign. Motion carries. All right. The only thing I had asked for is that we do the books. writing for me. I think that's all she said. I don't What did she say? What did
you say? What did you say? Can Carol leave one of those papers for me to read? Yes I wanted one to read. So you don't have a date in mind? For you? This is just for the handbook right? Yeah it would just be this meeting. >> [clears throat] >> Who's on the meeting? Just me and Sam. So I would say the only thing is that this policy affects our handbook and your handbook you've done it. So we might as well do a work session. >> Work session. And then we can make it convenient. This is my 18th calendar already and the fifth is senior banquet and elections. So not the first. >> [clears throat] >> What about the fourth? We can do the fourth at I have a huge I'm doing the fourth. I'm I'm
good on the fourth. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> At 5:30? That would be great. All right let's all plan the fourth at 5:30. >> [clears throat] >> Oh handbooks. >> [clears throat] >> Um Use like if we approve the handbooks with the changes to the hands-on policy can be added later after Start with classified staff handbook. Any more discussion? This addition of the new handbook Yeah this this is new. So that addition or it's just getting It's to make sure that's between the two. We have different communication sections in both of them and I advise that's what happens so I just like that in the front so that they both they will both read this way first what is in this first one. Right here. So add to this if that makes sense. Um I
think I got everything you guys asked for. I added the communication, we added the fitness center section, but the forms are online now. The pets, uh reference to social media policy, reference to video surveillance policy. And then we changed um we added the purchasing in accordance with the policy, and then we changed the per diem meals. So, we think that was all the additions, but I could have missed something. So, we'll just say without the attendance list. >> [laughter] >> I was wondering on the employees about the key box access if we wanted to specify that that we keep it within those that are um I mean the grand ones, I guess. Uh You got the forms and whatnot, like grants that we can see. Do you know what I'm saying? For those who approve
the form All right. She's talking about They're the ones that have access and can access it. Yeah, she's talking about regulating the having a key box regulates the keys and access by key box, you know, like the school vehicles so that I don't just get my own key and get something. [clears throat] And someone else needs to sign it in there, they'll use it. >> [clears throat] >> All right, Lisa. Yeah. And did you want to talk any more on the school to work? That's in here, we'll be talking on So, I'll I guess I don't I was I was discussing like after that or decided cuz I see there's information in here now. Well, I was just saying if you guys want to do one handbook at a time, it might You don't have
to do them all at the same time. I think you want to do [clears throat] the classified or certified. >> Yeah, I I was just >> like you guys still have a lot of things to talk about in this. Okay. Yeah, is that all right from my perspective? Um so, I was just looking at you guys's extended stuff in the other one to see if they Your classified one it's not in there, but your policy 3122P is in the certified, and so you could just like the student one if you guys wanted to approve it with that section to be updated once the policy is changed. So. I'm just like thinking there's no I guess rush to approve these that are next year. Mhm. And so, I mean maybe like if there's a lot of
changes, it might be worth working on them a little more than approving them and then making revisions to them. Or trying to add I feel like to them that's what we're trying to do. In this between handbooks is when we approve them and then we're adding bits and pieces. I was just about to say that. We can talk about it later. When do they go out to parents like when it starts? They don't go out until August, but Misty will usually print them in July. She'll start her back to school packets in July. And we usually we usually put them up on the website as soon as you guys after July 1st when they're approved. So, these will all wait till July to approve them and then we can do it then. Correct. So, we
used to have them in July, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, the reason we moved them earlier is because we weren't getting the parent input in the summer where if we weren't in session and parents weren't really coming to the meetings, so we moved it up. But no, it it does not have to go out before July technically. No, there's no reason it has to. And I would say that as far as some of the pieces of that that go like for example school work, we need to have those pieces in play before we meet with kids, um which predominantly is happening beginning of August, so we're we're in a good spot there. Any more discussion on the handbooks? Do anybody from the public have any comments that we could potentially look at for
our work session? No. Do I have a motion? I move to table the classified, certified, and student activity handbooks for the 2026-2027 school year. I'll second. Sam made a motion to table the classified, certified, and student handbooks. And Mike seconded. Any public comment? Any more discussion? Sam moved to table approval of the handbooks until Mike seconded. All in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. All opposed same sign. Motion carried. You want to set it work session? It could be the same day as your policy. Mhm. You good? Yeah, I think that would be fine. That's all right. >> [clears throat] >> They go hand in hand together. They go hand in hand together. Well, that's my point in that. All right, perfect. Moving on. >> [clears throat] >> Classified hiring. Um we waded through um looking
at what next year's numbers look like, pieces of that looking at it, and so um and making sure that everybody was at the right staff as far as their um education and all that kind of stuff. And so, I would recommend that our five um hires Maryann, Lisa, Misty, Desi, and Casey for next year they both are great options. Any more discussion? Public comment? Do you have a motion? I move to approve the classified hires as presented for the 2026-2027 school year. I'll second this. Sam made a motion to approve the classified hires as presented. Phoebe seconded. Any public comment? More discussion? Sam made a motion to accept the or to approve the classified hires as presented and Phoebe seconded. All in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. All opposed same sign. Motion carried. >> [clears
throat] >> Uh oh, that's in the wrong order. Okay. That's all right. Never mind. Hiring of board members. You're in new business. What? So, now we're into new business. Yeah, we're now in the new business. Hiring board members. Uh we have four letters. One from Rachel Leford, she's online. Dana's here. Sandy's here, and Miss Wash is here. Um Did everybody get a chance to read through their questions? We had a couple other questions we wanted to ask in person. Rachel, can you hear me or do you have a microphone? Yes, I can hear you. Okay. Are you available to answer a couple questions? I hope so. Okay. Question number one. How will you maintain a respectful relationship with other trustees in the administration if a decision is made that you do not fully support? You
said how I maintain? Yeah. Um well, I as a board member, one needs to behave in a way as an adult and an example to people that watch and um in the community. Any type of board member needs to be able to communicate their opinion and also accept the opinions of others and as a in a board majority wins and once that decision is made then that is the direction that the board has made to go. So, we need to be behind that decision. Thank you. Is And then the second question, is there a particular issue that motivates you to be on the board? Um not not necessarily. It was just brought to my um um attention or somebody asked me to see if I was interested in running and I guess I just decided
helping the community and if it was an opportunity then I would take it and if not I have plenty things to do as well. So, it was just another opportunity to just help the people and children that I love. Thank you. And then go ahead and Jane if you could please come up to the podium. >> [clears throat] >> Same questions. All right. How will you maintain a respectful relationship with other trustees and the administration if a decision is made that you might not fully support? Um I think it's absolutely possible to like respectfully and professionally disagree and still maintain, you know, relationships and decorum. Um I think the trustee group and administration as a whole um are professionals. We're all ingrained in the community. That's why we're all here. Um just because we disagree
on an issue um I mean, we're people. We're human um and we can respect each other's opinions as such and um as long as the the board decision is the board decision and we're a member of the board um we're bound to support that decision publicly even if we don't necessarily, you know, agree with it and we, you know, spoke our piece to the facts and like how we view them. So, as long as we're respectful and professional and you know, can maintain good communication, I don't think there's Thank you. And then the same thing, is there any one particular issue that motivates you to be on the board? Um not particularly, but as I said in my letter of interest, I think proficiency-based learning has taken um a front row seat, you know, in
the graduate profile meetings and kind of like discussions with the community and I think it's really important that we get that policy right um cuz I think it's the way um education is going um and I think we need to take a lot of different opinions into account from the teachers and the students and the parents um and you know, other stakeholders and initial policies to get it right in the beginning, I think are really important and I think taking all of that into account is the first step. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Sandy, your turn. How will you maintain a respectful relationship with other trustees and the administration if a decision is made that you might may not fully support? I think um different opinions is a great thing. I think that um
once elected the board is your representation um teachers, parents, everybody like and so when when people have different opinions, I think that's great. I think that means I'm probably going to get talking to different people in different people um in the county. Um and so I actually welcome that and I support it um and so say we uh somebody has a different opinion than mine and my opinion gets voted down, that doesn't matter when we leave this this room um just as Dana and Rachel spoke um I support that. Um that's what the board wanted. That's how we voted. Obviously, we're representing um every in the community to the best of our ability um and so that's how it's supposed to go. That's how it's supposed to go. Um I think that we're in a
really small town and we all have different opinions every single day. So, I think this was a pretty easy one. Um I mean, my best friends and I can have disagreements on different things and still be good friends. It's just like teaching our kids on the playground, [laughter] okay, this kid was mean to you today or you didn't like what they had to say. Well, that's okay. You still have to be kind and respectful the next time you see them. I don't I don't know that um I think it's the same way as in adults. For sure. Thank you. And then is there a particular issue that motivates you to be on the board? Yes, absolutely. [clears throat] I mean um just in general everything that you guys are doing and um the direction that
um you guys are taking like proficiency-based learning, I think it's fantastic. Um I think there's a lot of um modalities of education right now that um >> [clears throat] >> I know some are working hard to provide those to the students in our school system um and I would like that I would like to see that continue and grow. There's a lot of different avenues and options um for kids these days um right here in our building that um can be utilized and I think our staff is doing a great job of providing that. Um I'd like to continue to support that um you know, see >> [snorts] >> um where the proficiency-based learning goes um you know, and how to best kind of like Dana said, gather everybody's opinion and that's a huge deal.
You know, continue to listen to everybody that's involved. Everybody wants to have their own opinion is really important. Thank you. Miss Flash. So, you'll have to repeat the question. Dana >> [laughter] >> and I heard it three times before. And you can't use any of the same words. How will you maintain a respectful relationship with other trustees and the administration if a decision is made that you might not fully support? Um as I said in one of the ans- one of my answers, we need to work collectively and with an open mind. So, you take in all of that information and hopefully, if there's a differing opinion maybe it will open my mind to look at yeah, with a different perspective and we always have to be respectful and I feel that whenever you work
in a group, that's just part of it. And then is there a particular issue that motivates you to be on the board? Just I don't want to get out of education totally. Um I was [clears throat] asked by several members of the community when I retired from the school to be part of the school board. And at the time I just I wanted to step away. I've still been involved in schools and I still want to continue because I really have a desire to see success for all students. I'm glad to hear that you guys are getting the success for all. Um I've worked with that program and I love what I'm hearing about this what you're doing with the schools and I just would I have a vested interest in our youth and our
community moving forward. And I feel that I need to step up and have that voice. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Do we have any discussion? Does anybody else have any questions they'd like to ask? Do any of you you four have anything you'd like to add? One thing I'd like to add is Sam, at the last meeting you talked about curriculum and understanding >> Please step up to the podium, please. >> [laughter] >> Sam, you talked about curriculum last at the last meeting and I just wanted to um >> [clears throat] >> I have been a curriculum director, a testing director and interventionist both academic and behavior for behavior. I've been an administrator, assistant principal, principal and I've been a teacher and I can say honestly say I've taught all subjects all all grades.
But curriculum is that's near and dear to my heart. Thank you. I just want to say thank you to all the individuals that have expressed interest in being on the school board. I agree. I was surprised that there was four people that sent letters. >> [laughter] >> Okay, do we have a comment? Then would anybody like to Question from the floor. Point. >> Lisa Arena Would it be better if us if we left room? Would that make it easier for you? No, I don't I I don't I don't know anybody I don't think anybody's going to come up swinging and take it personal. No, they're not going to feel bad at all. Some reason I feel relieved. >> [laughter] [clears throat] [laughter] >> I move to appoint Dana Eschliman to the Equal Right Public School
Board of Trustees to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of David Lovern with a term to begin immediately and expire in May of 2027. I'll second. I second that motion. All right. Sam moved to appoint Equal Right Public School Board of Trustees to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of David Lovern with a term to begin immediately and expire May 2027. Lisa seconded. I mean, for discussion. Public comment. Sam moved to appoint Dana to the Public Equal Right Public School Board of Trustees to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of David Lovern with a term to begin immediately and expire in May 2027. Lisa seconded. All in favor say I. I. I. I. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. You want to take a quick recess? It's going to get >> [laughter]
>> I need Morgan. >> [laughter] [laughter] [clears throat] [laughter] >> I'll wait till the end. >> [laughter] >> Huh? >> [laughter] >> Oh. >> [laughter] >> Oh. I'll wait till I already was getting paper. You can do it. I have to kill Lovern. I still >> [laughter] >> Did you drive? I do. I had to go to work >> [laughter] [laughter] >> I always felt nice when everyone when anyone left. >> [laughter] >> How much rain you get? We had one We got a heavy shower this afternoon. Yeah. You got Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> You got Yeah. And then today another one. And then later on we got another one. We just got the one today. No. >> [laughter] >> No, my nap time. It wasn't It wasn't much. But it was a lot
muddier coming in. Okay, thank you. I'm good. Not right now. No, of course not. >> [laughter] >> Jesse Carol was talking. I got mine done. I did 82. Oh, yeah. 82. 82. Someday That was beautiful. I got mine done. >> [laughter] >> Huh? >> [laughter] [clears throat] >> I know. I know. She told me And she was I don't know if Jesse needs a wanted I said not thinking it was We said like I used purple. Okay. I'm just here. She was on the She just Probably just saying Kind of like Welcome to Equal Right. I said welcome. Thank you. I don't know if I don't know what he's going to do. No. >> [laughter] >> I already said fine. Everybody back? You ready to start starting again? Morgan got started again. Please. Move on
to certified hiring. >> [snorts] >> Uh so, I would like to recommend I'm I'm super excited on our elementary side especially uh to make a recommendation that um Jana Fikes, Kendall Killman, Lena Lovelace, um Celia Meneses, um Peggy Biswell, Celia and Peggy are both um part time and Lynette Wolfe, um to be hired for all of our elementary positions. I would throw one thing in there for the board to consider. Um Mrs. Spencer is her role is shifting a little bit um next year. Um um exciting opportunity, different things, but she is going to be a half time employee um to navigate um helping run the ranch and do different things. And so, that is where the necessity to uh make sure we have a teacher in in all of those classrooms. Um Is that
so? Uh very excited for the that that staff to continue to build and build and build. As a clarify, Peggy and Celia are music. Right. I missed one. >> He said elementary. Jana, Kendall, Tina and Lynette elementary school. Yeah, thank you. She would be high school and elementary. Yes, she would be high school and elementary. So I was just making sure that empty is right there. It is. Yeah, that's why it was crossed out. Yes, that's why I had changed it. >> [clears throat] [laughter] >> Any board discussion? I can't even write listening to all these interviews and Mr. Cathy asked the big questions and they were amazing. Well, that's this will fill all the classrooms, all right? All of the elementary classrooms. Yeah, it's all the elementary classrooms. Yeah, any board discussion? Thank you
CB for helping the newbies. Any public comment? Reno, were you trying to say something or was that just background noise? I I wasn't saying anything. Do we have a motion? I'll move to approve the certified hires as presented. I second it. >> [clears throat] >> And that was 2026-2027. Yeah. Mike made a motion to approve [clears throat] the certified hires as presented for the 2026-2027 school year. CB seconded. Any public comment? Any more board discussion? Is it appropriate for me to vote or is it more appropriate for me to abstain? This is I've been here for 30 seconds. >> [laughter] >> New business that's why we wait till the new business. >> [laughter] >> Where was I? All right, about all in favor say I. I. I. All opposed same sign. Motion carried. Moving on
to extracurricular >> [laughter] >> hiring considerations. Yes, sir. I'm all right, thank you. Um we're going to table the coaches for right now. Um I haven't got all the evaluations done but I will have them done by May. I know it's cheating some of the coaches that coach here already like Rusty and some of them that spent time with them but that's what's going on. And in the meantime uh we've had three boys on the football team make all state and three of them are going to play in the all star game this summer. And Clay Ross is a alternate so he'll probably get to go too. And out of them three boys uh Jayce Bardiga an alternate for the East-West Shrine game. And that is quite an honor. And on basketball we had two
all staters, one boy and one girl. Uh the girl got to play in the Madison tournament up in Billings and she got invited to go to the HIG tournament up north and now she's playing with the Wyoming Gatorade all stars. And that is really an honor. No other athlete from this school has done that before. So that's Natalie Conner. And a big hand for that. That's quite a deal. And as far as we go through my notes here I got the people got anything else? Oh, yeah. Grade school volleyball tournament we're having the 29th of August. So that actually going to move our grade school basketball another week of practice before we have a game. Instead of just four days and a game we're going to have nine or 10 days of practice before the
game. So that's what we're working on to have that. Kind of like the one in Eastern but it's going to be junior high. And I guess that's it. Any questions? >> [laughter] >> I do. All right, thank you. Any board discussion? Is this all on this topic or do we want to back up? To look into hiring an assistant for the junior high sports for the next school year. I know that would require an MOU but I feel like we have some time to do that if that was something somebody else was also on board with. Um we had discussed previously like a certain amount of athletes and then a junior high assistant would be needed. And I would just like to get ahead of that if that's something the board and the school would
like to do. I think speaking as someone who has coached a junior high sport there's too many kids at too many different levels for one coach to effectively be able to manage it at all for the benefit of any of the athletes. Any more than 10 or so um it's just not effective and if there's some clear um role delineations and an actual person hired as an assistant coach I think that could um really really really benefit both the head coach and the athletes as well. Um it's just the the numbers are great but it's too much for one person to reasonably be able to handle. And I guess I would throw in my ideal one where kids to continue especially at that middle school level of scoring and being ready to go to continue
playing in in the high school. Spreading that I mean making sure they're getting as much I'd say individual but breakdown time I do think is important there. There is a magic number there that you you need to think about it kind of like a classroom setting that number so there's not a decision if you have set over number then you know, whatever that number may be then [clears throat] another coach is hired. I mean we've been lucky in in my time here just to watch and we I and I'll I'll say it exactly how I feel about it. Take advantage of some of the volunteers. If if you really want to make that make it quality and build on that when you conceptualize numbers in there and it and truly it's probably not about the
dollar amount it's about like hey making sure that there's a certain level of respect if you're an assistant coach or hired person expected to be a volunteer. And there's there's a lot of very valuable parents that have stepped up into that volunteer role but I think it would just there are a lot of things that could have made it easier on everybody if it was actually designated a position. >> [clears throat] >> And we've discussed discussed it a lot and again and again and again we just in that is it It's part of the CBA. Part of the collective bargaining since that table's in the collective bargaining that is the normal It has to be a week and a half to do an MOU, right? So it would be attractive to be your IBB figure
that would meet with um the committee of the union which is like we do for either IBB. Just add that to the Agree upon it and once you guys agreed upon an MOU then it would come before the board for a final That's it. IBB meeting thing but Yeah. Okay. Any If I can say anything say I think that's a great idea. Having one more coach. He's like I'm done. Just my opinion I think it's a great idea having one more instead of eyes and somebody work with kids doing drills while the other coaches do the stuff. So good idea. Any other public comment? We have a motion? If we're going to do that we need to do that before the May meeting. So we can It might take longer than that but I'm just
We're bringing coaches back in May so is that something we need to like rush on or Can I speak freely? I don't know if I can handle any more meetings before the May meeting. No, I No, I I just didn't know if that is something we needed to or if we can wait to do the assistants until Well, I I think the assistants can probably wait. Okay. As long as it's before May meeting. Before we start school. Because you guys are hiring your head coaches so if you're hiring your head junior high football coach back then you would hire him an assistant over the summer. I guess that's the way I look at it. So I think And then they can be a part of it. Okay. I think that I think we can move
on to the school. Yeah, we have we have a motion? I move to table. For coach hiring until May. I'll second that motion. Phoebe made a motion to table the extracurricular hiring until May. Sam seconded. Public comment? >> [snorts] >> Any more board discussion? Phoebe made a motion to table the extracurricular hiring until May. Sam seconded. All in favor, say aye. Aye. All opposed, [clears throat] same sign. Motion carried. All right. Next, substitute hiring. Uh so, we have a couple substitutes um added to our list, which is a good thing as different seasons, you never know when you're going to need different subs, so and each and every one of them breathe. And then we also have Todd Harkins uh has applied to be a bus driver and will sub for us. Todd Harkins. Does
Todd have a CDL? I don't know if he has his current one right now. He [clears throat] had one. He but Yeah, Branson has been working with him, but he'll probably quicker than some of our other drivers to get that because he's [clears throat] had it and Okay. Any more discussion? Public comment? Do we have a motion? I move to approve the substitute additions as presented. I second. Sam made a motion to approve the substitute additions as presented and Rena seconded. Any public comment? Board discussion? How closely are you related to the school? How closely are you related? We're pretty far away. Second [laughter] cousin? No, further than that. No, he's not. No, yeah. I think you're probably safe. My mom's dad My mom's first cousin. Yeah, I think I think you're probably safe. Okay.
Just wanted to know what the rule was. >> [laughter] >> All right. Sam made a motion to approve the substitute additions as presented. Rena seconded. All in favor, say aye. Aye. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. Chaperone additions. Uh Travis Shellenberger um has been in and got the approval and we'd like to add him to our chaperone list. Huh? Oh, hello. No, I was looking to see if you had anything to add to that. >> No, no. He's He's been He's been coming in and helping with uh students um and so he's on the chaperone list and he does not have to be driving. I said or staff or whatever. Any more discussion? Public comment? I move to add Travis to our chaperone list. I'll second. Phoebe made a motion to >> [clears throat] >>
add Travis Shellenberger to the chaperone list. Mike seconded. Any public comment? Any [clears throat] board discussion? Phoebe made a motion to add Travis Shellenberger to the chaperone list. Mike seconded. All in favor, say aye. Aye. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. >> [clears throat] >> And Ms. Walker's not here. We got out-of-state travel. So, um >> [clears throat] >> uh with Ms. Walker, Mrs. Walker's guidance, Nastia and Ela qualified for her um the national FCCLA event that's in DC, and so they are asking for our permission to um travel outside the state, and so it's pretty exciting opportunity for them and uh it's good. They're working hard. Any more discussion? Public comment? Do we have a motion? I move to approve the FCCLA to attend nationals in Washington, D.C. I second it. Dana made a
motion to approve the FCCLA to attend nationals in Washington, D.C. Phoebe seconded. Do we have a public comment? Board discussion? Dana asked me to motion to approve this FCCLA to attend nationals in Washington, D.C. Phoebe seconded. All in favor, say aye. Aye. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. Graduate [clears throat] profile, Mr. Cappy. Uh what you have in front of you there is the the work of 6 months and lots of community and staff input over that time. Monthly meetings as well as having some outside uh OPI joining us in those and so the first step is to lock down what that graduate profile is, and and the last meeting was about a week ago, and and uh the last little bits of work sniffing, if you will. Um I'm pretty pretty proud of all
the work that that community and staff and and just the the continual looking back at it and looking through it um and kind of gives us a direction to to build. Um it's step A in in this process for us, and so and it fits on one piece of paper. So, that's a good thing. Any more discussion? >> [clears throat] >> Public comment? Do we have a motion? I will move to approve the graduate profile as presented. Todd seconded. Mike made a motion to approve the graduate profile as presented. Phoebe seconded. Any public comment? Any board discussion? Mike made a motion to approve the graduate profile as presented. Phoebe seconded. All in favor, say aye. Aye. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. Insurance. So, um JPT is our insurance provider. Um we explored looking at
the state um option, but um between uh the the teacher union and ourself, could not really see a huge benefit at this point in time. Kind of let them get their feet under them, uh and so this is their proposal. Um we explored getting another bid, and Who talked to them at the beginning [clears throat] of the Not in taking other bids, so um this is competitively in line with where we've been over last years on insurance and it's all uh struggle. It never seems to get Um so, JPT's who we've been with. Our recommendation is to stick with them for at least the next year until we have uh >> [clears throat] >> uh till the contract's over and we're back up next year. We need to give the teachers time to look at
the other offers. Any more discussion? Public comment? >> [snorts] >> Do we have a motion? I move to approve the joint powers trust contract for the 2026-2027 year as [clears throat] presented. I'll second that. Sam made a motion to approve the joint powers trust contract for the [clears throat] '26-'27 year as presented. Phoebe seconded. Any public comment? Any board discussion? Sam [clears throat] made a motion to approve joint powers trust contract of 2026-2027 as presented. Give me a second. All in favor, say I. I. I. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. >> [clears throat] >> Success for all purchase request. So, part of our Montana reading grant that we that we wrote was tied to Success for All. And so, we started that process this year. And the first step of buying pre-K and kindergarten
materials And our next piece of this is to get our first grade through eighth grade materials for that. And so, we'll continue that process all the way through. The attached that is there's an amazing amount of of stuff, if you will, that goes with [clears throat] that from specific books that are tied to each each unit as part of this part of the the reading process. And we've actually already started looking at where we're going to store and how that's going to be stored and distributed um throughout [clears throat] that throughout that process. And so, um we the intent is that we get it the sooner we get it on site, the sooner the teachers can have hands on it. And then, when they when we do the next step in the training, which tentatively
will be the end of July, so that they have time to check that out really. Yeah, so we're just trying to make sure we get that taken care of. So, if there's any delays, it's here and it's going to It's all this stuff. So, the question are you using the funds to purchase this? To offset Okay. >> [clears throat] >> That was my only question was there was 100% covered with that grant. Any other board discussion? Question? Second? I'll let Comment? We have a motion? >> [clears throat] >> I'll move to approve the Success for All purchase request as presented. I'll second. Diana made a motion to approve the Success for All purchase request as presented. Mike seconded. Any public comment? >> [clears throat] >> Board discussion? Diana made a motion to approve the Success
for All purchase request request as presented. Mike seconded. All in favor, say I. I. I. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. So, in that grant application, we also had the key So, just to kind of back up a little bit, we started into this grant that's an October 1 to October 1. And so, we tiptoed into this this year because we couldn't fully implement going into the year. But, part of that grant we wrote, there's a community engagement piece making sure stuff is going home from birth to birth through kindergarten materials. Um so, we looked at creating those packets and in that and in time and those pieces that we This is for what this is allows us to send Each kid will have their um [clears throat] Each student will get a backpack every
like when I say backpack, I'm talking about cloth ones, but with personalized books at their at their reading level to kind of in their reading level to push them as well as reading tools or whatnot that go home with the family. They will also this starts we'll have this first group of these and they will go home with kids this summer, so that they have a chance to continue reading, continue working through that. Um it's it it is kind of a fun process in the sense that it it keeps us from having to do a ton of work other than updating um their math scores and making sure that kid is is being entered because then those books are kind of [clears throat] at that at that just right level. Hence the name, Just Right
Reader. To just kind of push them, um but keep them excited about reading and and give parents or guardians the the tools to do that. [clears throat] So, but it's it was it's part of it. And if anyone has any questions, it's again straight out of our our grant funds that um they're all in there specifically for community family engagement, if you will. Any board discussion? Questions? >> [clears throat] >> Any public comment? Questions? Do we have a motion? I'll move to approve the Just Right Readers purchase [clears throat] request as presented. I'll second it. >> [clears throat] >> Sam made a motion to approve the Just Right Readers purchase request as presented. And Stephen seconded. Any public comment? Any board discussion? Sam made a motion to approve the Just Right Readers purchase request as
presented. Stephen seconded. All in favor, say I. I. I. All opposed, same sign. Motion carried. Informational, Mr. Cappy. So, just as a quick brought up, anybody in anybody that's interested, we have our reading um a reading plan meeting. Anybody, teachers, staff, community members, whatever, can attend that. That's tomorrow. Um Yeah. And you mean when and where? Um no, Wednesday. Sorry. I didn't mean to say it was tomorrow. It's Wednesday at I don't know 5:00. I'm I'll confirm. Okay. Consent agenda. 4:00. 4:00. Oh. Ready for the agenda. Um one thing I want to know on the consent agenda is that there are not cash balances included. Uh we get a journal entry error in the balance trial that has not been fixed. It was on it for annual audit last week. And so, that's why I'm
asking if you guys can fix it this week. And then, there are other parts of the annual audit that we are working on. Um and then, is this where you want me to use that? Mr. Cappy? Do you want me to use the start date? Yeah. They were I had your password in the box. Yeah. What was in your mailbox? There is You can have this if you want. >> [clears throat] >> So, I'll let you have that one for when you do the confirmation. What's the number on the back? It's on the other side. Let's see the number. Um as we talked about last week, there were we're still kind of working through um getting those pieces in there, but uh the data that we talked about trying to put it in a more
visual format and get that in in front of you, um hopefully generate discussions from budget to attendance to all those pieces. Um this is another snapshot of that data. And uh over time, it'll give us a better snapshot than you would. So, this does include as you go through that, it is include all of our data from 2021 up till now. And so, just again, it kind of allows you to ask good questions about where we are, where we're going, um budget as we talked last month, we talked about enrollment and how that projection works. There's no guarantee to those projections, but um as we talked last talked month, the projection for what our kindergarten class was going to look like and what it was actually landed somewhere in the middle [clears throat] of that.
So, it does keep us thinking staffing, all those kind of different things. You looking at those and coming up with questions as you want before we start to regularly just include them. >> [clears throat] >> Some of it you might see in each bundle for there's a lot of things There's a lot of things that is music I just put that on the screen. Music is traveling this week. And so it comes out of one on one ounce for the high school and the junior high goes and the middle school goes. That's probably And so you're going to see the same line but it's going to be in many different spots on your sheet. Sure. So that's the You pull them in your group by vendor you can see both six ones together. So um
the 3D printer Yes. newer items Is there like a plan for that? Like a long-term plan for that, Mr. Capu? So um >> [clears throat] >> Well, first off right now Brandt's been getting them set because there's two different ones and so we use um advanced Where did you pull that from? Where Where did you pull that? Where did you pull that? >> We pulled it from the first credit. Okay. Um and so figuring out how what it can be used for. So uh for instance printed a couple of different examples of things to kind of get hopefully get staff thinking about it and then the next step is to get it in front of kids to say well what I mean An example of that he printed a wrist um with all of the
ligaments and all of that. And so um getting kids to think up um the the reason we started this process was uh Elena came came [clears throat] to us to ask about actually printing maps and uh some of the the three-dimensional maps that she was working on. We started that process and the beauty of it is is it wasn't quite how any of us would have imagined is a safe bet. Um it was a little bit smaller, not nearly as cool as we wanted but it got us thinking about the next steps and how do we do it and and then things can they do different I mean so the the sky's really the limit on it and so the key is showing teachers a little bit of what it can do and then also
having them show kids to say well What about this? What about this? So like used across the board as an educational tool for correct their mobile. The last piece I will There's one more little tiny component that Brandt is adding to it um a tiny little camera on both of them so um students like for example if they're building a resistor or building a wall or whatever it is that it will take time lapse pictures of it so they can go back and and kind of look at it and see what they're they're doing. Any other questions? What time? I didn't write down what time we adjourned on the 30th for the work session and I was hoping that somebody had Oh, it was 8:00 like Yeah, it was because I had Yeah, yeah, three
minutes to get to the store. >> Yeah, you're right. That's exactly what I did. >> Yeah. He's like bye. I had to get ice cream. Yeah, I remember. >> [laughter] >> Unless she's probably watching. I wrote it in so I will fix that if you guys will >> [clears throat] >> This is Good, Dustin. I think you for making the motion to adjourn. It was very helpful. It was very helpful. Mhm. I move to approve the consent agenda as presented with adding the adjourned time as 8:57 p.m. for our work session on March 30th. I'll second. >> [clears throat] [clears throat] >> Sam made a motion to approve consent consent agenda with the addition of the 8:57 p.m. adjournment time for the work session on March 30th. Mike second. Any other comments? Any important discussion?
Sam made a motion to approve consent agenda with the addition [clears throat] of the 8:57 p.m. adjournment time for work session on March 30th. Mike second it on favor say aye. Aye. Opposed? Opposed same sign. Motion carried. Can I ask a question [clears throat] before we adjourn? No. Don't forget ballots go out on Wednesday. And we will have an article out in the paper this week to try and get some information out about um what the general fund money is for, what the money can be used for and so if anybody has any questions or you um have questions in the community, please have them feel free to call me or email me those questions. I will try to be as transparent as we can just like we were with the bond about what the
plan is for the money and how it affects the school going forward. I'll make a motion Yeah. if we can't We could. I can't. I make a motion to adjourn with no further discussion. Meeting is adjourned at 7:30 What time is it? 7:36. See you later, Ron. Thank you for coming. >> [music]
