Red lights on. All right, we'll call the January 20th school board meeting to order. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. All right, starting with our consent agenda. We get a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion? All in favor say I. >> I. >> All opposed agenda passes. All right. All right. Public comment >> is next. >> Is that right? That's next. Okay. >> Uh so our big public >> uh can speak up at any time. I don't need to read that since it's a vacant audience. Moving on to theformational items and reports. We'll start with

the administrator. >> All right. So welcome everybody to our board meeting. So we'll start with some sports news. So the first thing is our girls basketball team has their first home game this Friday against Marian. One of the things that we have been working on is to make sure that we have somebody to cover the clock. So Mr. uh Eastman is teaching all of his fifth through 8th grade PE students how to work the clock so they all know how. So this is a part of their curriculum right now. And then he has uh he's using Signup Genius to have the parents of basketball players come and get trained. So they're they're getting trained and then they'll signing up for games. So he's teaching them all how to use a clock and we'll also have

those parents there to supervise kids. So um it'll be rotational, you know, however they sign up. Nobody has to do everything. So there are six home games. So it's not like there are a lot of games, but just having somebody so that we don't have to cancel because we have to have someone supervise. You don't want a kid to get in trouble because a spectator disagrees and yeah, you don't want that on the child. So, um, so yeah, I'm excited about that. So, profession professional development, we have two PAR educators, Mrs. Lofin and Mrs. Scalane will participate in CPI training, which is crisis prevention institute training at the end of this month. So, um to my knowledge, they both have already been trained, but their uh certificates have expired, so they have to do it

as though they're only expired by like like a month, but they have to do the whole training process over as though they've never had it. Um, but CPI is uh you use CPI holds if you have a child that needs to be um where you need an intervention, some kind of adult intervention to help a child gain control of themsel and a hole might last for 10 or 15 seconds and then you release the child. But there's certain ways that you're trained appropriately how to do that. And only staff that are trained and there's more than half of us that are trained, but only staff that are trained can do that. And Miss Getting is going to attend the teachers summit for the National Association of Gifted Children in February. This is a virtual platform.

So she will be attending that virtually for two days. I renewed my Chris training for privacy and security over Christmas break. And then I will be attending the high trust uh teachers workshop that is happening in Big Fork from January 29th through February 1st. That's two evenings from 4:00 to 8 and a Saturday and Sunday. So Dennis McLuff Mclofflin who is the instructor of that he came here and he did a training with [music] our staff um back in I think it was November he was here I think we he was here November so our whole staff was here and we did six hours with him which was great and this is a 30 hour so I'm excited to go and learn more and give more to the staff from whatever I learned so um

we learned a lot when he was here and I'm excited to learn more so that's where we are with professional development I would like to congrat congratulate Miss Hansen. So, Miss Hansen was selected as staff member of the week for the Flathead Special Education Cooperative. So, uh she had a picture taken and it was put in the co-op newsletter and uh so she's doing amazing things and I would like to recognize her for that and congratulate her at all. So, >> when [clears throat and snorts] you say co-op, is that county schools basically? >> Yes. So, all the schools in this area plus I [music] think they do I think they do Libby and Troy also and then they do I think Thompson Falls and um Trout Creek also for special education. So and then

the co-op provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, um school psychology, all those things. So, uh, and those services help they they complement the, you know, the special education teachers and they help all of our students. Uh, special thanks. I'd like to thank West Hills Chapel. So, that is the church that um, rents the gym on Sundays. They gave each staff member a gift card for the holidays, a $50 gift card. So, that's a substantial uh, financial uh, out outlay for them. And they did the same thing last year. and the year before and everybody appreciates that and they write the great notes of thanks. So that's really nice. And then I'd like to thank the Holmes family. They purchased recorders for the entire fourth grade class. So every student in fourth grade has a recorder for

music. So they're starting their recorder unit I think in the week after next they're all starting that unit. So they're very excited. They they'll get their own recorder and um they're all going to sound the same. They'll be exactly in tune. [music] So if you had to buy those at the store, like if you had to get them from the music Morgan Roth Music or the store in town, they're 30 bucks, but we got them for 450 a piece. >> Nice. >> So that's a good deal. All right. Um event dates. So we we had a staff gathering staff gathering last week and it was fun. I saw the most interesting ping pong games I have ever seen in my life. like if the ping pong table were over there, the other side where we

start to serve over here. So, it was very interesting. It was really fun. We had a good time. So, that lasted we rented the the clubhouse is the name of the place. And um so they had ping pong. They had um what's that game where you cornole cornhole? They had that. They had a fooball table. Um just some fun activities for staff and it was just a nice we we talked about doing something in December but December is so busy. So this is just nice having it in January after everybody's just relaxed from the holidays and just a chance to not talk shop. So it was really great great gathering. So a good opportunity for us to build rapport with each other and just to you know be outside of the school building. The end

of the quarter is tomorrow January 21st halfway through the year. Awards assemblies will be uh January 30th, K through 4 at 2:00 p.m. and 5 through 8 to 2:45 p.m. that will go home in the newsletter. Also, parents are contacted individually if their if their kids are getting a reward and award, excuse me. February 2nd is our midyear parent teacher conferences. And on that same day, because they're going to be for students that have D's or Fs and that's any student who has uh two or more C's and um for any students that might have behavioral problems or if their teacher has seen a decline in their academics. Those are the kids whose parents will be invited to come to that. So, that's a perfect day for us to meet one of our title one

requirements, which is to have a title one uh family engagement, family and parent engagement day to talk about the title one program and evaluate the program. So, it also meets one of the requirements for accreditation and for the title monitoring. So, uh that's a good day to be able to do that. So, I'm excited about that. And then, um our spelling bee is going to be February 4th for grades 4 through 8 at 2:00. Today was our 92nd day of school. It's kind of fun when you go through and figure out how many days. And that's kid days. [laughter] That's not teacher days. That's kid days. >> So that's that. And then the next part of my report is to talk about this uh this monitoring tool. So it was lengthy as I told you

at our last meeting. We had about 199 129 different documents that went in. And so I have I I make a hard copy because they ask for you to keep a hard copy in addition to all of the stuff that's online. They want you to keep a hard copy. So my pile is like this thick of all the documents we we compiled. And out of all of that, we only had four improvements to do, four corrections. So three of those they gave us 30-day window and one of them they gave us a 90-day window. And so the three with the 30-day windows, two of them will be complete by the end of the week. One of them already is complete. And um the 90-day one is going to be complete by the end of January.

But just to let you know what those were. So the first theme was talking about foster care. So they needed evidence of supports in place for uh when attendance becomes a concern, evidence of supports in place when academic performance becomes a concern. And they needed us to update policy 8100 which is on our list today. So So [clears throat] that's going to be done because that's already taken care of. So, as of tonight, that'll be finished. And so, I was working with Shay and with Trish and with Miss Evansson to get this finished because those are the things that had to be done. So, I did this one. It was in Shay's category, but she had something else. So, I just got that done. Um, as far as Sorry. For the uh assessment area, the

only thing that we had to do was provide documentation. So, we need a signed copy of a meeting. We need an needed a copy of an email and then we needed proof of training for the WEDA training and and all of that we already have. So, that's done. So, we just have to send that in all finished. And then um for the third area was participation of children enrolled in private schools. So this year um OPI wanted us to do um so every time you send a notification to a parent about if if the parent is private school or homeschool, you have to send a notification to the parent. They wanted us to make copies of every single letter that we send the same letter. We couldn't just provide a list. We have to make

a copy of each one. So we only actually make a copy of one. So we have to just print up all the others. So we already have those. So we just have to print them up. And then they needed um documentation that we did not hear. So they need a statement saying we did not hear a response from these organizations. So they need that because we didn't hear back. So we have to document that in this statement. So very minor things but they just are things that have to be done. Uh and then the last thing was oh let's see that's the same thing. Oh, so the last thing what was about education for homeless children and what we had to do was we had to resubmit our enrollment paperwork to include a housing questionnaire.

So we didn't have a housing questionnaire with that and then we have to update our homeless for sure. So we have 90 days to get that done. Those are little tiny things. So I am very pleased with the report. I mean everybody worked their tail off. Lacy got the financial part of it done right away and there were no questions about that and these just little tiny tweaks that we had to make and I'm really really pleased. Um other districts in the valley some of the superintendents said that they uh got deaned on their title one plan. So one of the things that I did is I took a training with Jack Oconor two years ago in Missoula. It was an all day training and he said, "If you took this training, you have my

permission to use this plan." Cuz he basically wrote this incredible plan. So I took the training, we paid for it. I had his permission. We used that plan. There it is. >> So, and I I can't share it because other [clears throat] people didn't pay for the training. So, I can't share it. So, um, but anyway, we Yeah, I'm I'm excited because they did well. So, but that's where we are with that as far as just getting that up to date. Okay. So that's all I have. >> We're going to pass these around if you want to hand those over so people can initial number. >> Um the only question I have, Don, and I didn't read through the full report. I know that probably surprises some folks, but um on page three, I mean,

the way [clears throat] they listed it was a number of findings. >> Cody, sorry. >> Um so I'll show you what I'm looking at. >> I don't have the full report. >> Oh, so yes. So, so the way that that is is if you want to see what the finding is. So, on this page that I have, it has has a description of the findings right here. >> And then it'll tell you what the finding status was and then if there's a corrective plan. >> Okay. >> So, the findings are the things that they're looking for. >> So, okay. So, it's not this was an issue. This isn't. Okay. >> Exactly. So >> if you scroll down further, I think it says not applicable in the corrective actions and stuff, >> right? Okay. >> So

the list of findings is the list of possible things that they could find. So these are the findings available and we found when we look at your school, this is what we found. >> Gotcha. >> So the findings is more a list of the findings. >> Gotcha. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Makes sense. I'm used to reading audit reports and when you've got a finding, that's a problem. So >> Right. And so I mean they should have said um possible findings right and then and then they give you the finding status. So for example in the common common compliance areas on page four it lists uh the description >> and then the findings that we had were the three we did not provide evidence of CCN we did not provide evidence. So we gave

three findings and then the corrective action which was those couple of things at the bottom. So they give you a huge list of findings, but those are the findings that you might >> have apply to you. >> That makes sense. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> So I'm finished with my report. That's it. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Thanks for that, Don. On to Lacy's report. Okay. Um, the only one that we typically talk about is PJ and it's in hole for the first time this year, which is um, a little frustrating. It's not in the hole by very much if you look at where it was $1,100 in the hole, but we put a deposit of $800 in. So, not a lot. I did ask Joanna if

we have outstanding accounts if people owe. Um, she did say some. There are some that are outstanding that are owed. Um, also just wondering if it's a bit of a hiccup because December was a short three week, a short month. So, I'm I'm hoping it will level itself out with January being one of the longer months of the year. So, not not too concerned about it at this time, but we want to make sure that we're watching it next month and seeing if it levels itself back out. Um, yeah. And then I missed doing something for payroll. That's the other imbalance on that report. Isn't that fun that I made a mistake? That's so neat. I think that was the only things that I have to point out on the reports unless you guys have

any questions. >> Did she say was [clears throat] it the same people that we've kind of had in the past? >> I didn't ask for details. I just asked if there were outstanding balances owed and she said yes. Um she highlighted one family that had moved away that didn't pay their bill before moving. >> Um it's not $300, but >> uh something that we may need to see if we can get like a donation to cover so that it's paid. >> Um so no, not really. >> Okay. >> Not really. We did. I think our enrollment number stayed steady and that's all I've got on myself. >> Okay. Thank you for that, Lacy. >> All right. Facilities [clears throat] report done. >> So Jay is gone this evening because there was some illness in his

family. um that he got somebody to come out and give us an estimate on on repairing the 300 building roof. Uh and so we need to document the facilities meeting um next Wednesday. Oh, so after we get a schedule, I will have everything to do. So um so that and then he also had a couple of couple of for for so uh I I could have brought the absence of me at the hospital that is are these minor repairs maybe in his wheelhouse. Do you have the tools to do it? I don't think so. >> Would he be able to And then the other thing is I really don't want Yeah, I wasn't sure if he was going up now or not. So, >> if he does off that's um as far as the 100

building goes, I did get a hold of the manufacturer of this building. took a couple attempts uh made that initial contact have not heard back yet. Um you know gave them the unit numbers and things but haven't heard back. Um the initial thought from the first person I talked to about the warranty is they said no way is that going to be covered under their warranty. See now it's 20 years old. Um, their recommendation was to go to the siding manufacturer, which I believe will be the John James Hardy company and China back warranty that's in their paper. >> I don't have all the details yet. That was just the initial impression. >> I believe I'm guessing that they're general warranty is probably 12 months. you know, standard. They use the product for a 50

year warranty. It just didn't hold up for 50 years. It's kind of the way I sense, >> but the manufacturer of the product most likely will have 20 reasons why it failed and it's not their responsibility. So, but yeah, I'm just in a waiting game right now. All right, discussion. We got Trish's return. >> What's that about? >> We try to deny it. >> She works with terrible people. >> We try to be nice. >> So, um, yeah, Trisha was actually thinking about this last year and she decided to wait another year. So, um, this is her letter January 14th, 2026, and she asked me to read it. Dear Mrs. Madden, Smith Valley School Board, I am writing to let you know with a mix of gratitude and sadness that I will be resigning from

my position as office manager for my final working day in June 30, 2026. Working at Snoop Valley Schools has been an incredibly meaningful part of my life. I started at St. Valley School as a parent and then joined the PTC and volunteered at the school. After being at the school all the time, one day my husband said, "Why don't you get a job?" It was the perfect time for me to join the Snout School family. I've learned so much, not only professionally, but personally as well. The students, staff, and Snow Valley community have made this a truly special place to work, and I will always be thankful for the support and encouragement I receive. It has been a privilege to be part of the students journeys and I will genu genuinely miss the relationships I

build with students, colleagues and families. I will of course do everything I can to ensure a smooth and positive transition. Thank you again for everything as I take this next chapter of my life. Retirement is something I'm looking forward to spend time with kids and family on the go. the first smile on face. So Trish and I are going to work together to make sure because she does so and she knows the best has to be done. Are we going to try to hire that to have some overlap to train? >> I hope so. I hope so. >> Yeah, I would like to I would like to have something. >> Is there a taco you kind of party for or anything? >> Um, okay. >> Yeah, her and Marie are both retiring this year, so

yes. Okay. Absolutely. Yeah. She asked me, she said, "Do I need to be there tonight?" And I said, "Well," I said, "It would be nice if you were here so we could fawn over you." And she said, "That's it. I'm not coming." [laughter] >> So, um, yes, she will be missed. Absolutely. >> Oh, for sure. And we can't vote to deny these retirement. >> Well, you can table [laughter] it. >> It's not even an action. Unfortunately, it's information [laughter] >> table this until 2013. >> Exactly. >> Okay. Any other discussion on that topic? All right. Let's move on to the action agenda. Following items are for consideration and possible action. Starting with number one, personnel. And I'll take a motion to hire K. K. Womba as substitute. >> I make a motion to hire K.

Womba as substitute. I'll second. Any discussion? >> Um, he has some para experience and subbing experience and seems excited to want to work here. >> Is he new to the area or >> I think he's been in the area for a while, but I didn't get the feeling it was for a long time. Maybe four or five years. Okay. So, >> cool. All right. All in favor say I. I. >> All oppose. Same sign. >> Motion passes. >> And he understands that it's upon completion of criminal background history. And he already told him and the drug alcohol test. >> Cool. Okay. Next item. uh need to approve the policy updates from the last policy meeting. Yeah. And you guys could do them. It's kind of up to you all if you've you know reviewed them

and feel comfortable. You could do them as one motion. Um I I wrote it out as motion to approve the pol policy adoptions and amendments attached to the agenda. or if you would feel better about breaking them apart into a couple motions. It's it's totally up to whatever board member chooses to make the motion. Policy committee spent about an hour and a half working through the policies that are attached to tonight's agenda and then we're spend another hour on the remaining policies. >> You guys good with voting on them all? We can just discuss whatever questions. >> Sure. I have questions on two of them. That's uh pretty minor stuff. to open it. I'll make a motion to approve policy updates as read or as written. >> I'll second. >> Are you doing the amendments

and the adoptions? >> Amendments and adoptions together. >> Okay. Any discussion? >> Yes. Um so on policy 2160, >> is this under adoption or amendments? Oh, there must be a change cuz I I wrote what has changed. There's nothing highlighted on the >> 2160. Yeah. >> 2160. >> This one we've removed one sentence. Like I I didn't see anything. >> Oh, what had to happen was this had to be reviewed because it was too old for uh title one. >> So, it had to be reviewed 2016 >> reviewed with no changes then. Okay, that makes sense. >> Oh, I just say I didn't even I didn't even see 2160 in these ones I printed. >> Was that attached? >> I think that's a fair explanation of why there's no highlight in this. >> Yeah, but

was the policy attached? >> It was in the amendments. >> Why didn't Oh, there it is. Got it. Yeah, we updated the last review date. Mhm. >> This was one of those things from that uh >> from the monitoring report, >> the report that Mrs. Matt was talking about. We had to review it. So, we did and none of us saw anything that needed changed. Uh the other was policy 3150, which I'm having a hard time getting the parttime enrollment. Um, down at the last line, it looks like a sentence was cut off. It says the district M policy 3120 in the very last sentence. >> Yeah. >> I wasn't sure if the M was extra or if there was something that was cut out. >> What's the policy number? >> Uh, 3150. >> It

looks like the whole thing has stuff cut off. If you look at it, >> so I assume it's >> it's a formatting error. >> A formatting/printing error would be my best guess. Let me see if I can pull it in our policy manual and see if it shows the whole piece in there. Oh, see it's really 3150. See if I can get into Yes, it does. Does it? Yeah. Well, there you go. Not sure where it actually cuts off the disc. >> Yeah, it's fully in here. It's just got Yeah, there that's like >> it has like a scroll side to side in here. >> I think it's like multiple cuz it's all the way down. >> Oh, yeah. >> See that sentence that you're asking about with the M? It's actually a pretty long

It's cutting off quite a bit of it actually. The district may secure A&B for the enrolled children participating in identified extracurricular activities in accordance with policy 320. [clears throat] >> Yeah, I wonder why it did that cuz all I do is print them. For some reason within the platform, if you hit print and print to PDF, it's cutting that whole thing off. >> Yeah, it doesn't format that thing. >> [clears throat] >> Are you able to see the whole thing? >> I copied the text and pasted it elsewhere and then I can read it. >> Interesting. >> But I have no scroll bar to scroll. >> So like it's in the PDF, but it's not in the PDF. Oh, >> it's outside the printable area. >> Yeah. Of the PDF. That was >> a good

call. >> Bizarre. >> Okay. Well, now that you can see the whole thing, >> how do you feel about it? >> Just side comment, not on that one specifically, but it doesn't appear any of the other ones. It does. >> That was the only one that >> and I just tried it again in the policy platform and printed a PDF again. It just does the same thing. It just does it like that. Makes me wonder if I need to print that one landscape or something just so you can read it. Very odd. Fine. I'm good with what it says or what it doesn't say. Maybe [laughter] >> you approve what it says in the secret decoder. [laughter] >> Yeah, just get the formatting fixed and we're >> I would agree. It's good to go. >>

Just close the policy again. >> Anything else? Anything else? >> That's it. >> Anything? Mm-m. >> All right. All in favor? >> I. >> All opposed. [clears throat] Policy updates are approved. >> All right. >> A weird thing. >> Any correspondence? >> Okay. Schedule the next facility meeting. >> Yeah. So, we've been holding off on scheduling it until you got information. Do we want to get one on the books now? Now that we have roofing bids to review, do we What do we want to do? >> Is there anything besides the roofing bids that we need to address? >> Just the siding that Joe's working on that. >> Are you thinking maybe just put the bids on the next actual agenda versus a committee meeting or you thinking having a short committee meeting? >> Committee

meeting. >> Yeah, just to get it done before the rains hit. But yeah, if we however we could do that, I mean, if that's the only thing, we don't need to >> I would just say do it part of the regular meeting if it's one thing. >> Two days for one item. >> Yeah. >> But the next meeting's in a month, right? >> Correct. >> And it's still February. So >> I guess >> before rainy season if that's the concern. >> Well, and even if you had a committee meeting, it's still got to come back here. >> Yeah, >> that's true. [music] >> Yeah. So yeah, it doesn't make sense to do a meeting then. I don't know when we would schedule a meeting in the next month anyway. So >> that's that is part

of the biggest problem right now. >> Sure. I can't do Fridays till February 13th, >> which is the 2 to 3 days before the regular meeting. [laughter] >> That's fine. >> So no need to schedule one at this time. We're going to put the two roofing beds on the February regular board agenda. Reading is hard tonight, apparently. Okay. >> Okay. Any other discussion? Regular board meeting is adjourned. >> Way to go. Short time. >> Hey, [laughter] I'm efficient. What can I say? Ends it
