under a new business item two participate contract and you have a copy of that contract and you can see it just came to us this week uh but it does need to be added to the news do i have a motion to approve the agenda with the change that dr carter indicated to prove the agenda the stanley has made the motion is there a second sun this hudson seconds motion is there any discussion if not all in favor indicated by raising your hand propose the same motion carries announcements dr carter i just wanted to share as you know today was the first day of school and it was so exciting to visit the schools and see the students uh return to the classrooms and i have to say it was a good day there were

you know did not seem to mind wearing the mask and teachers were excited to see the students back and i think the students were happy to see each other and you have a copy of the adm for the first day and as you know it usually goes up the first 10 days but i i did a comparison from today from last year at this time that you'll have in front of you and i do ask too that um to remind parents to please be patient we are experiencing the same issue with trying to find enough bus drivers in castle county as across the state and across the nation and with that being said if anyone knows of anyone that is willing to drive a bus and take drivers training we would be happy to to

talk with them i'd also like to give a shout out to the casser county outreach ministry under the direction of alice and paul robinson they donated school supplies that will be distributed to our schools and so again thanks to uh alex and paul robinson tonya pegg and sheila mclaughlin for their support of castle county schools thank you thank you question for you move on yes just for my knowledge at oakwood how many kindergarten teachers at hogwarts i i do not know that off the top of my head i can certainly at break you get the roster of how many are there okay the reason i'm asking that is is the number still 21 max it's a uh it's a district average and i believe i may be wrong at 17. i may be i used

to be 18. i thought they moved well i'm not sure that's why i'm out but what i'd like to do is i'd like to see what well for example uh especially in kindergarten since we do requests for transfers that you know nobody within the district is bumped because of somebody out of district and i just like to see the numbers we have kindergarteners i see the numbers but the number of teachers we have at these schools absolutely i know that's one of the things that mr terrell does look at okay make sure that because kindergarten's coming in unexpected sometimes yeah and i'd just like to have that information absolutely thank you [Applause] all right for public comments those willing to speak must sign up before the meeting giving full name address and topic each person

will be allowed no more than three minutes spokespersons representing a group of eight or more people present will be given five minutes the board will hear comments but no action will be taken tonight unless the item is already on the agenda concerns of sufficient interest may be placed on the agenda at future meetings concerns covered by laws requiring confidentiality may not be addressed in open meeting and i believe we have mr gentry for public comments mr gentry if you will come up and state your name in the dress william gentry 31 cedar cove road um chairman owen vice chair garland superintendent carter uh school board members thank you for allowing me to speak for a few minutes my name is william gentry live in pelham my two grandchildren attended casual county schools i'm here today

to respectfully request the school board to clarify its position on the teaching of critical race theory in castle county schools seventeen states have introduced bans on critical race theory to combat the marxist ideas of ibrahim kindy and in particular racial shaming in the classroom great parade's theory is not history education nor is it civics education it is action civics designed to shape students into change agents who will undo the very foundations of american society lieutenant governor mark robinson has formed the tax task force to prevent this sort of indoctrination of our children hugh blockwell north carolina district 86 has introduced the academic transparency bill to combat crt john corbett north carolina district 108 has introduced house bill 324 to help protect north carolina children from crt regarding postage steel state superintendent catherine truett commented this

is a common sense bill that provides reasonable expectations for the kind of civil symbol this course we want our children to experience in public schools here are some of the ideas that house bill 324 is designed to combat number one one race or sex is inherently superior to another race for sex number two an individual solely by virtue of his race or sex is inherently racist sexist or oppressive whether consciously or unconsciously number three an individual should be discriminated against or received adverse treatment solely or partly because of his or her race or sex number four an individual's moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or sex number five an individual solely by virtue of his or her race or sex bears responsibility or actions committed in the past by other members

of the same race or sex number six any individual solely by virtue of his race or sex should feel discomfort guilt anguish or any other form of psychological uh distress i end my comments by entering into the public record the following article parents against critical race period by max eden washington examiner june 22 uh here are copies of it would you like to give copies thank you mr gentry so let's go out this door yes where you can dr carter uh there's no one unfinished business your consent agenda yes i'd like to recommend approval of the consent agenda as presented i've heard the recommendation of the superintendent to approve the consent agenda do i have a motion is there a second second mrs garland's second summation is there any discussion or comments if not all

in favor of the consent agenda indicating opposed the same motion carries unanimously dr carter yes uh the next item is the participate learning invoice that you have it is a contract for this um for a participate teacher spanish teacher that you have approved this is actually from participate and with a um with this type of program this is uh the portion that we pay that is the employees benefits and the training and professional development that they receive through participate and so uh since it was just received this week that that's why we are adding it to the agenda and i'm asking for your um your approval of this and it is paid for state funds okay you've heard the superintendent's recommendation do i have a motion mr battle makes a motion makes the most similar

is there a second ms stanley seconds of motion any discussion or comments if not all in favor indicate by raising your hand oppose the same motion carries unanimously superintendent updates i just wanted to let you know that uh just to share with you uh i have uh earlier but mr powell will be at the next meeting to give an update on the high school and uh open house uh open houses this past week were well attended by every school in fact every school that uh i spoke with the principal and teachers they were excited to see the number of parents that attended in fact when i was at vy and dillard middle school that well in actually the elementary schools they made a comment that this is the most parent participating participation we have seen

in a long time which uh spoke highly of looking at preparing for open house and i would like to give a shout out to our landscapers that did a great job with our schools and i think uh we're ready for the school year to start um these numbers for today they're like today's day one day one typically they go up every day okay what's the matter called i've expressed this before about mr powell does mr powell make the decision as to when he's gonna update us where he's gonna come uh it's uh he tries to give regular updates and i know it's been a while i know there's been a lot of um he's been on site quite a bit but he can certainly you know come on a regular basis as you choose well

the reason i'm saying that mr powell has paid well 75 000 a year that's two that's 150 for the two-year project and i've said this before i think he should be able to give us a monthly report whether it's in person or by zoom and that's my personal feeling on how the other board members feel but for him to say i'll be there in september or whenever that's to me that's not good enough yeah that's just me i certainly shared with him who uh can't provide monthly report would be a good idea it's a good idea man and he had he will have no problem doing that at all i think now it's it's so visible too with all the the changes that you can see i think it is a good good idea but

we'll certainly start that in september the next meeting uh just a note of placed on your desk a cup new revised copy of the uh at your workstation the revised copy of the superintendent evaluation and a copy of the evaluation form just for your information so you'll have it i wanted to get that out for you i'm gonna get it out tonight if i could and thank you dr carter for getting those copies for me uh any reports updates if not i need a motion that the casual county board of public education go into closed session for the purpose of considering a personnel action that involves an officer or employee of this board nc general statute 143 318 11 a6 and for the purpose of discussing information that is privileged confidential or not a public

record nc general statute 143 318-1181 and to confer with attorney go have a motion so this battle is made in motion ms blackwell's second motion any discussion all in favor indicate by raising your hand we'll go
