Good evening everyone. It's so nice to see so many tonight and it's a special recognition because we have so many valuable awards of recognition and that you have earned school system and we as a board of school are extremely proud of you and we are proud of you tonight. We're going to start out with the invocation in this pledge of alleg. And Lord, we're here for the Gates County School System and also for the employees that we hire and we have some fantastic employees. Lord, we're going through difficult times. We're going through difficult changes. And Lord, we just ask you for your wisdom, your support that we look out for our children, our children and staff do not suffer, Lord. And we ask that you watch over us and also watch over we safely return
home. These things we ask in your name. >> Okay. which she stand also congregations. Brooks, if you'll come for >> Good evening. Some of our staff tried to pass this through without it being noticed and there's no way that we're going to make such accomplishments here in Gates County. We not recognize it. Can I have the our prek staff to come forward, please? If y'all just stand real pretty so they can see. This is our prek staff here at Gatesville Elementary. Um they cover all the students from um Gates County and this year um eforts which is a process they have to go through to get um certified. Edits went through a new program um and they revamped everything and we were the first school first program to go through it in Northeast North Carolina.
You earn stars. The higher the stars, the better facility you are. Stars go from one to five. Here in Gates County, our prek, how many stars you think they have? So the first to go through the process, the new process, our ladies and our students because our students are there as well to earn the bow. Gates County, we have a problem. So acknowledge and her staff here on their hard work and how they make us proud in our days. So thank you ladies. Everybody hold up. You know that's outstanding to get a rating of five because coming in from the state to analyze everything that goes on what we get. So five minutes out that shows that everyone a fantastic job. Okay, next Mr. break. Not only do they have Can you hear me? How
are you? >> Can you hear me? All right. The last time I came to meet, which wasn't that long ago, I asked for a five member vote because it was only a three member vote at when they were determined which schools were closed. Um there was no representative from the B area at that time. for tonight also. Um and I petition them to again five members with all members present and they are the thing about matter how it would be better received by these people in this area of our county if there were five people. they were only three. Um, and since that time there's been so many good things happen to all the schools this TS Cooper central the high school athletically and academically field trips and this is the time of year the
kids get all bubbly about what they're going to do that day. We've had so many good nights everywhere. Everywhere. Um, Buckland had a celebration last week. I think some of you may know about it from the paper or the index was there that night, too. But, uh, I parked my car in the parking lot. An hour and a half later, I had not made it through the front door because of the width and depth of the support for that school from way back. 1951, but I'm not talking about the building so much as I am. The the feeling in that school as the night went on, I could not believe how much support and people. I have one little fell that came from his name some sitting here think and I have I have feelings
about all the schools in Gates County and I'll just mention these I was principal here three years and in the 70s I went back and forth spent a half a day my kids went through here my wife is secretary here for 30 years and my grandchildren went to school here so I've got big feelings not only for Gatesville and the others, but particularly these two and I want to mention that since then I know that I know our board members are getting information all the time getting calls and getting people question the situation between the county and the school. So needless to say that probably doesn't help things but I want I want want and they're getting information all the time but I want to mention to you that country which is concern to me
that's not a concern I tal it is not a concern that we have more kids when I was there than currently there we have in the living room and now I'm including the kitchen when I say as far as parking is concerned yesterday we celebrated that went by the school but the campus is so large there's there's plenty of land to do any kind of parking issue you may have parent pickup if that if that increase So just you know ju just to think about two things and one other thing happened so quickly I wouldn't mind seeing another year like it is so that the dust can settle and can and figure out what is really best for Gates County. I know money is an issue has been probably created some of these questions about
schools. Yeah, we talked about building in the county. There's already some building in the white. Well, today my wife has therapy. So, we're going to Lisa City and I turned off the four lane turn and looked and there was a sign that said Ryan, you know, when I say Ryan, that's where the building is. That's who building. So, there are some things to consider. I'm asking for vote tonight present so that we can take and even better let's wait here and see what happens that it does settle that many issues settle see where we really are close so board members, you have approved business meeting agenda before you, but I would like to have some changes to it. Um, a little further down the item seven, I'd like to include support staff recognition, Miss Witch,
and I'd like to move signal if they'll come forward. And then under the closed consent agenda, I would like to remove the monthly amount of the school board members will receive paying July 1. And also, um, it's Mr. I'd like for him to explain the early release date. Um I would like to add these two things to the agenda. A1 A1 is the recording um the speech that goes on in the meeting and that way when you record the minutes they will bearly dictated. I'm not saying they were not dictated but it will help that person administer the system. I think the cost was about $20 a month. Um, and then last, I would like the increase that we moved the summer on June the 8th and August the 7th. Board members, do you have
any more adjustments to the Number seven. Okay. Mr. Hail would like to add that as a separate um motion to vote on so it will not be in the closet. We try to be more transparent know what's going on especially those who don't have access to computers. Okay, you've heard all the amendment adjustments. Do I have a motion to move forward? Okay, I have a motion to approve moving the two items of the seven important information up forward and also adding monthly school beginning July one early release adding on AI um and then four summer hours and then seven would be the health partnership and I think right Are you the one who? Okay. So, I have a motion. Second. I have a motion. All those signifies by saying that. Okay. I'm going to turn
the floor to Dr. Excuse me. Good evening everyone. >> So, uh, we got some really special recognitions this evening and at this time it is my honor to invite the representatives of the AOSI alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to come forward to present the Bayweek Professional Achievement Awards. Please welcome chap committee chair Dr. Williams and may we be the co-chair is one individual. Delta sigma faith is a distinguished public service organization with a proud legacy of celebrating academic and professional excellence and dist demonstrating a deep commitment to the communities they serve. We are grateful for their presence tonight and for their commitment to recognizing excellence right here in our own school district. Thank you ladies. >> Thank you so very much Dr. Williams and to the board of education here in Kat County. It
is very good to be here with you all on this evening. My name is Wendy Van and I have with me Miss um Wanda Williams and Miss Jamilia Outlaw and we are members of the high school alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and on behalf of our president Mrs. Banetta Henderson. We are delighted to be here with you on this evening to join in with celebrating your staff with the Gates County Schools. So at this time we would like to ask the following individuals to please come forward. Mr. Robert Jordan, Mr. Jesse Matthews, and Dr. Paula Simpson. And as they're coming forward, let's give them a hand. Certainly you all can attest and know to their worth and their value here in the school system. So, it's our honor and distinct pleasure on
this evening to recognize them with this plaque. And the plaque reads, "The Husky learning chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated presents the professional achievement award to Mr. Robert Jordan, to Dr. Paul, the director, and to Jesse Matthews County School." and the flag greens in recognition of your outstanding professional achievement, dedicated leadership, and continuous support of the auxiliary services in your school district. Your commitment to ensuring the school system daily operations runs smoothly contributes to the overall success of the students and the staff in Gates County Schools, which exemplifies excellence and determination and unwavering commitment to public service. Presented to you on this evening, May the 11th, 2026 by the chapter's Mayweek Committee. And again, Dr. Williams has shared what our made me committed program is about and it is about celebrating academic and professional
excellence. So on this evening, we say congratulations to you and keep doing the great job that you are already doing. Thank you. I just wanted to uh talk a little bit about these three individuals and how much of an asset and importance they are in our school system. Dr. Paula Simpson, she's the director of school nutrition. That's a very tough job. She leads our student nutrition program with a level of dedication and professionalism that ensures every student in this district has access to a quality meal each and every day. Her department is the first line of nourishment for hundreds of students, many of whom depend on school meals as a critical part of their daily nutrition. Under Dr. Simpson's leadership. The nutrition program operates with efficiency, care, and genuine genuine commitment to student health and
well-being. Her work directly impacts students readiness to learn and this district is fortunate to have her at the helm. Thank you, Dr. Simpson. MR. MR. JORDAN. He oversees one of the most complex and critical important operations in our school district. Each day, his team is responsible for safely transporting hundreds of students to and from school. The logistics of managing routes, drivers, vehicles, and the safety protocols that protect our children require extraordinary attention to detail and strong leadership. His department is a cornerstone of daily district operations and the trust that families place in our transportation system is a direct reflection of the standards he upholds. Mr. Dr. Jordan and of course Mr. Jesse Matthew Mr. Jesse Matthews and his custodial team are the backbone of school facilities. Clean, safe, and well-maintained buildings buildings are not simply
a matter of appearance. They are essential to student health, staff effectiveness, and the overall learning environment. Mr. Jesse leads his team with a strong work ethic and quiet professionalism that keeps our schools running smoothly day in and day out. The pride he takes in the work is visible in every hallway, every classroom, and every corner of our school buildings. Mr. Jesse M. And this is the end of the world. Up next, it is my distinct honor to introduce two individuals who have made a profound and lasting impact on the students of Gates County Schools. Dr. Crystal Harden, Mr. Benjamin Saunders, the dedicated leaders behind the Saunders Science Scholar Program. For several years now, Dr. Crystal, Mr. Benjamin have poured their time, expertise, and passion into building a program that has opened doors and expanding horizons
for so many of our young people. Through their commitment, the Saunders Sign Scholar program has grown to be something truly special, a testament to what is possible when dedicated individuals invest in the next generation. Today, as they prepare to present on the program's journey and the remarkable results it has achieved, we are reminded of the difference that two people with a shared vision can make in a community. While we are sad this will be the final presentation of the Saunders Science College program, we are deeply grateful for everything that Dr. Crystal Harden, Mr. Ben Saunders have given to our students in the Gates County School. Their legacy will be felt for years to come in the lives of every scholar that they have touched. Please join me with a big welcome of Dr. Crystal Harden
and Mr. Benjamin Song. I would just say I wanted to my name to be called. Um, before Dr. Harden get started, I want to say that she has been a phenomenal individual worker. I've been knowing her all my life, pretty much since I was like 15 years old. And um, we actually met in a camp at Appalachin State. So, we made friends and when this opportunity came to Gates County um, she brought it to my attention. I was like, "Uh, we need to get her to a rural area, do some outreach in a rural area. Um, what do you think about that?" Like, be good. Why not bring the gates down? But she was already gonna do that because she just wanted to throw in front of me to see what I would say. Um,
working with her over the last 10 years, um, it's been a learning experience. And I want to say G County building partnership which is the organization that I am a part of that works for the education of youth in case county would not exist if it wasn't for the planetary science center Dr. Crystal and we're not going anywhere. We're going to stay we're going to be here and under the leadership of of Dr. Shante Jordan the support of the community of Gay County you know we look forward to many more years of serving. Um, I didn't mean to say this, but I just want to say a few words from God. Can you hear me? All right. Good. Good evening. Good evening, everyone. I am uh so honored to be here. Um, and it it's
unfortunate that it's the last time that I will be making a form presentation to this school board. uh regarding the science scholar program as it does conclude on May 30th. We have been here I engage county for 10 years. This program has been in existence for eight and unfortunately it is time for these cohorts the the last classes graduating and it is time for it to come to an end. But we are so grateful for the welcome that we've received in this community. We are so grateful for the support. uh and I will talk more about that if I'm going to get through this presentation first and then we have two of our student graduating seniors who are going to give some brief comments about the impact of the program and then I'll finish up
with the thank yous but I know that we have a couple of new board members and so when we talk about the history and the background of this program um for those of you that don't know the Saunders science scholar program started with the class of 25 when they were in sixth grade and it was program was designed to be a science enrichment program where they meet monthly and then uh during the summer they had summer camp programs here in Gates County. The opportunity brought new brought new collaborations with Elizabeth City State University. It uh helped push the efforts of the Gates County Community Partnership. Um and it allowed our students to have access to many new opportunities. By the time they were in high school, they were doing their own science demonstrations and popups
for students, and they were also doing college tours from North Carolina to Virginia. It is very special that the program, as many of you know, is named for the late Mr. Benjamin Saunders, Senior. Um, I'm very happy that he was able to see the program flourish for his name's sake. Very happy that, um, he was in support of the use of the name. Uh it took Benjamin a minute to come around but finally he said yes as they are a very humble family and did not want to um to really be in the spotlight of that nature. But now let's talk about some of the final updates that we have. So many of you know class of 2025 the Sandra science scholars graduated our first cohort last year and what an amazing cohort of students
um they are. They had their graduation gayla celebration on May 31st in Elizabeth City at Aber. We graduated 12 scholars, 10 enrolled in college, eight remaining in college at five different institutions and we're very proud of those. We have dean list students. We have students on full ride scholarships, two on full ride scholarships. So we are very excited about class of 2025 2025. But as we look at class of 2026, this past summer they went on their final college tour. Uh they toured the triangle area to Duke, Chapel Hill, NC State, and North Carolina Central University to make their final decisions during the academic school year. They had special they had uh guest speakers that came in to work with them on youth development and things of that nature. And then they also began to
do their college visits. Um along the way I did peek in on college of 2025. Made stops to see how they're doing. Made a trip out to UNCC Penrook to check on 25. But then 26 also I helped them as they began to do their college and senior night always a great night to celebrate the seniors as they head off. We had senior night football season, basketball season and that is an opportunity for us to Mr. Saunders and I to really celebrate uh them with their families as we prepare for what is about to happen. Um it sometimes is harder for the parents than it is for the students until about uh about July 25th. Then it becomes real for the students as well. We had our last monthly meeting last uh last Saturday at
the community center. Um that meeting was also a combination with a new program many of you may have heard about activate futures that is a program that Mr. Saunders very similar design to the Saunders Science Scholars but still a little bit different in some ways Mr. Saunders and Dr. Jordan and the Base County Community Partnership will continue on even after the Saunders Science Scholar program ends um in May. And how are we ending? Of course, we are ending with our big celebration that's happening on May 30th for the scholars, for their families. We'll have the graduates back. We'll have community leaders with us as we send them off and we celebrate all that they have accomplished in their 12 years here in Gates County and in the program as well. So, what do our numbers
look like for this year? Well, we have 12 scholars graduated this year. They have been accepted into 45 institutions. They have $1 million in merit awards. I said 1 million. Um uh they are pitted to Appalachin State, Jawan Appalachin State University, Chawan University, Clark Atlanta University, Manhattanville University, North Norfick State University, UNC Charlott, UNC Greensboro, and Winston Salem State uh University. So we are excited about that. Gates County, when you look at the class of 25 and the class of 26, there has been $2 million in merit awards given to 24 students. That is $80,000 per student in in average $80,000 per student in merit awards. That is a testament to not only the village that surrounds them, but it's a testament to the impact of this program and the model that we designed and
what it can do. when you have passion, when you have support, when you have all the pieces falling in into into place together. Um, I have more I want to say, but I'm going to hold that because I do want to to do some special thank yous. But, um, we're number is going to be Mr. Young Powell. She's going to be a rising first year student at North State University. >> So, hi, my name is Janna Pal and for those who don't know, I am a lecture senior at Gates County High School and part of this program. Being a part of the science program has given me opportunities that have helped me grow in many ways. It has challenged me to start thinking more critically, stay disciplined, and just to push me to achieve more
than I ever thought I could. Through this experience, it has strengthened my skills in STEM, communication, teamwork, and leadership. SA science has also helped me prepare my future goals in my college journey. It has taught me the importance of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. Because of the support and experience I have received through this program, I feel more confident in myself and in my future. One of the things I appreciate most about the program is that it truly feels like a family. Dr. Harden and Mr. Saunders treat us like we're in their own. And they hold us accountable for our actions. They push us to be better and they genuinely care about each and every one of us. They encourage us. They support us. And they make us know that they don't only want us
to succeed, but they want us to thrive academically as well. During one of the hardest moments in my life when I received the news about my granddad passing away on one of our college tours, I probably wouldn't have been able to stand a trip if it wasn't for the support they had given me, making me feel safe and cared for. That experience showed me just how genuine they are to me. And I'm very grateful for everything that the son of science scholars program has done for me and I will always appreciate the impact it had on my Um, last but not least is Miss London Barber. Before you get up, London, I want everyone to know that London Barber is headed first year seat at Chan University on a full ride scholarship. Now, many of
you know that she's signing athletically. But what was left out was that is an academic athletic scholarship. London. Good evening. I am London Barber, a graduated starter science scholar. First, I give thanks to God for orchestrating this opportunity for me to be a part of something that was created with success in mind. Thanks to Mr. Benjamin Saunders and family for allowing me and other scholars to mature while representing their name. Thanks to Morehead Planetarium, USC Chapel Hill for recognizing a need for advancement of rural students in STEM and providing the most efficient resource, Dr. Crystal Hart to grow that interest. Thanks to Gates County Schools for having an open-mindedness to support to support a vision for its students, not knowing if the return would be this great. And thank you to my parents for advocating
for the experience, reinforcing program standards, and reminding me that I am that girl to honor my name in all ways. Over the past seven years as a Sundai scholar, I have grown more than I would have without the program. Don't get me wrong, my parents have sacrificed and exposed me to much in life, but this program opened my eyes to a family outside of my family. Unwavering standards of excellence, financial support to explore collegiate opportunities, good food, and much needed laughs. Moving forward, my only regret will be that others will not will not experience the summer science scholars program. Yes, there are beneficial spin-offs, but cohort cohort alpha 2025 and cohort omega 2026 will forever be the basis for program development and sustainability. Mr. Benjamin Saunders Jr. and Dr. Crystal Harden, I love you both
more than you will ever know. It's time to award. Thank you for your time. Thank you all. Beautiful. Beautiful. Thank you, ladies. Thank you. Um, and as I prepare to take my seats, I I want to say on the record, um, special thank you to the administrators that are here, Mr. Johnny Hayes. This could not happen without you, sir, and your support. You have tolerated me and I much appreciate. Uh, Mr. Jeremy Ryan, even before you get you allowed me to have Aiden, have AJ, you were in our corner from the first phone call. Miss Crystal Brooks, before you allowed me to have Trey, you were still in our corner. Then uh Miss Miss Rosco TS Cooper, you've never said no. Dr. Jordan, you've been a fan and a supporter. Thank you so much. Cindy,
before you were a parent, you were our number one fan in this program and you were calling into existence cohort 2 before we even knew we had fun. We thank you. And to this school board, we thank you so much, Miss Ryan. support the way that you have and I we have we greatly appreciate we know that this model is because of your support and we we so honor we always here for you and last but not least I'm going to get emotional but Dr. very wings from the first day. You only ask me one question. What you know is amazing. We cannot do this program anywhere else unless there is a very wise as superintendent to help support these kind of workers. You are the type of leader that we need. You gave us
your all. You traveled the state with us, advocated. You leverage I don't know if your students, your parents know how much you leveraged in Raleigh around state to bring resources and you've leveraged the name of this program. You leverage name and we supported you in that and we hope you continue to leverage it and do more great things. But sir, thank you so very much. Last but not least, there's one last person to thank. I have to thank my friend 40 years. When I call, when I call, he's never said no. Even today on his birthday, he's not said no. Because of the spirit that his father has instilled in him, because of the brilliance from his mother, because of his drive and determination to see these students have the best opportunities possible that they
don't even know about. Today, sir, I thank you. I honor you because today would not be possible. We could not have made it to the end without you being behind me. You've had my back. You've protected me as well as sir, I thank you. Ben, I love you with all my heart. And because of that, I have just looked at you on your birthday to say this is a story you wrote years ago about the impact of this program before we even begin. I want to honor you, present you with this. There is more to come May 30th. More gifts, Dr. Williams again. But Mr. Saunders, just for this being your special day, I want to say thank you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN. UM, it's been a phenomenal ride and
I've said this before, you know, to you all. It's not even sweet because you know I recognize that and her staff they have things they can give my son we have so it's time for some and give everything she gave us to someone else but again I appreciate the honor of my father he had the opportunity to uh experience three years of um and he was excited he loved it loved being around the kids and he's definitely honest and uh we'll keep it going. It's got to keep the partnership keep serving the best way that we can. We ask for your continuity. Thank you, >> Mr. Happy birthday and he is looking back and he's proud. I want to give you another Dr. Jordan Come walk up this way. Um, good evening board members, administrators,
faculty, staff, and guests. This evening and every year we recognize individuals who exemplify the highest standards of our school community. Tonight, we honor individuals identified by their peers as outstanding examples of excellence in classroom, in school leadership, and the support roles that keep our schools running at its best. It is a privilege to recognize this even Usually when people come to the podium after a presentation, they say, "Well, gosh, I don't know if I can top that." Although that was an awesome presentation and we definitely thank Mr. Harden and Mr. Benjamin Sol. But when we are talking about and celebrating our awesome educated county schools, I have to say I think we can maybe not top that, but we can match that. What y'all think? I think we can match that when we talk about
county public schools. Um, we're going to begin tonight. We're going to be honoring many categories tonight, but we're going to begin tonight with celebrating and honoring our retirees from Gates County Schools. And I'll begin um with a poem. I'd like to do that. Um and the poem is to those who shape our days. Today we gather hearts both proud and true to honor lives of service brought deep in youth. For in the halls where there were young where young minds come to grow, your steady care has helped more than you know. In classrooms, offices, hallways wide, you gave your best with patience, grace, and pride. Through every challenge, every season, every year, you led with kindness, wisdom, and good achievement. You taught with more than books and plans and tests. You show what matters most,
and gave your very best with listening ears and hands that help each day. You shape young lives in gentle lasting ways. The lessons you have given will remain in mind's inspired encouraged game. Through though you step beyond your well-loved role, your impact lives on in every soul. So here's to all you've done and all you are. A guiding light, a steady shining star. May retirement bring you joy and time to rest and all the peace and wonder you deserve best. With gratitude, respect and heartfelt achieve. We celebrate your legacy today, this evening with right here. Thank you for your gifts you freely share. For every child you lifted, taught and care. 044School, Miss Cindy Buck. >> Well, that's Miss Landa's mistake. All right. Next, we have our teacher of the year. Um, a great teacher is one of the most powerful forces in a child's life. Our teacher of the year does not simply deliver lessons. They spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students discover what they are truly capable. Through creativity and compassion, they have created a place where every child feels seen and inspired. The impact of that kind of teaching lasts a lifetime. We wouldn't have the wonderful school system that we have and the amazing students that we have. and is a testament to what you do each and every day of what was just um shared here by the side of science program and what our students are doing when they leave the halls the walls of Gates County schools. So we thank you continue to do all that you do and we just appreciate each and every one of you. Um at this time if I have permission for Mr. I think we're going to take a brief intermission here so that all of our guests here with their families tonight can join us in a reception in the cafeteria here
next to us. And how long? >> 15 minutes. 20 minutes. >> Okay. So, it's 7 almost 710 on my watch. I gave us a few minutes, y'all. So, we'll come back at 7:30. >> Just finish changing. >> Okay. >> All right. So at 7:40 we'll come back to um to our conclude our board meeting. Again, thank you and join us in the cafeteria for our reception. Teacher of the years, you have another gift here to take with you. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. She's not here. >> I was just like, why we got him and Absolutely. Okay, I'd like to call the meeting back to order. Um, the next item on our agenda is approval of minutes, but I would like to break that up. Um, I would like
to have a motion on May the 6, May the 9th, and May the 17th. At that time, they wanted three board members. I don't feel like the other two I mean, excuse me, um, so what is the pleasure that we board members on March 6th, 9th, and 17? I have a pleasure that we approve the 6th and 9th and the 17th of March. >> Okay. Do I have a motion and a motion to approve March 6th, 9th and 17th? Second. >> Second. >> I have a motion. All those in favor signify by saying I motion carries. The next item is March the 25th and April 20th and that was the five board members plus the motion to approve. >> Okay. I have a motion to approve March 25th and April 20th um open session meetings.
Um what's the pleasure of a second? >> I second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor signify by saying I motion carries and then do we have any audience information? Okay. All right. Moving along. Um which is item eight which is approval of the superintendent course recommendation and reporting the close session agenda. Remember that the um agenda was amended and there were nine items. It's okay. >> We have a motion and second all those in favor signify by saying. >> Okay, moving along on the um incentive check. Well, um >> Okay, board members, do you have any reports? Okay, moving along on the close agenda items. We're going to vote on TS Elementary field trip, the Gates Hagen High School field trips and fundraising, Central Middle School field trip, the
AIG planet, um the policy updates. What's the pleasure of the board? I make a motion that we >> Yes, I have a motion to um and a second to approve those items that I have announced in the consent agenda. What's the pleasure of the board? And say I say I I carry. Okay. Next we have um board member monthly supplement Mr. Carol stay the monthly supplement here. Okay, board members, you've heard us at Harold State the board monthly supplement. What's the pleasure of the board? >> I make approved. I have a motion to approve the monthly supplement presented by Mr. Har. I have a motion and a second. All those in favor signify by saying I. All those opposed. Motion carries. Mr. you got you given us a notice about the early release days and
does that apply to central? >> Well, this so this actually went by so high school. We usually do ask central if they're interested in early release that week, but Miss Rosa has already got plans for that week, so she she asked I'm totally fine with that. We have 19 bank hours remaining. So, uh, the high school always, if we have hours left over, always asking us test in that week. Um, some years we have extra time, some years we don't. Um, he he made a recommendation of me requesting the early release times. I don't have a problem looking at schools as well. And the reason because I get this question a lot, the reason we don't normally add elementary schools because it's a hardship for the parents when you have students that young. Um, again,
I don't have any issues with going back to the principles and asking. Only issue is that the board meetings tonight, so >> yeah. >> Well, again, I don't have any issues with that. >> It's the 26 27th. Friday is already Monday. Miss Casper, >> I don't think it is. We elementary school usually doesn't have any last week of school today. We're pretty much I just will say they often have a lot of award ceremonies like that couple going on as far awards. So I'm concerned is double talk about central hospital and is buses >> right >> and one school to do something else I learned about coordination between the two schools months ago because $5 we're going to have to lose Is there any other possibility to all the same force that I'm okay with
it feels like we're doing two different things that share I understand what you're saying totally unfortunately I think it's too late to be able to do that right now at this point keep picture too. >> Well, I mean, yes, we absolutely can. So, what happens is, and it always depends on how much hours we have left. So, throughout the year, I'll remind principles that we have so many bankked hours left. If we have an interest with extra hours to let me know and then we can look at last. So, like last year, we didn't have any time left over, so we didn't do it at all. Um but absolutely that can be brought up much earlier as far as I know that we have enough hours to be able to do so and remind them
that we have enough that we can coordinate together. It's a different topic. It's almost around the same time. You know, I know the living period is very hectic. There's a lot going on. We've got graduations, eighth grade graduations, all kind of things going on. Um, you know, just as something we can talk about is to create, you know, this calendar. I have some say, well, fifth grade graduation and eighth grade graduation all at the same time. So >> we should not have that problem this year. >> No switch time. I don't have any parents that have kindergarten and eighth grader. >> I still do. So we fix it because we stick the time to 12. So they'll have an hour here. >> And like I said, all you come fully students right at the end
of the year. There's a lot going on, you know, graduation of our senior class in the hospital, not the only thing that's happened, right? There's a lot of other things we got to back up to. So I would just like to look at, you know, try to create some global process that everybody can look into. We can plug and play. I I know we can't keep doing it every throughout the whole year. That last two weeks become very everybody. So >> it's okay to have this one time double bus route kind of thing. I would like to see where we're more organized and like I said double bus routes are just that's a lot of risk in there. We see buses out twice diesel goes on. So just I don't object to it but I
just wish there was better information. So it's okay. >> Okay. No problem. Okay. So, what's the pleasure of the board? You've heard the pros and cons. Um, what's the pros and cons for this year? >> Make a motion to allow these days for hospital as okay to second. All those in favor say I. I. Motion carries. Okay. M. Um we have some questions related to canon health health partnership. >> Yes sir. So uh Contegra is a school-based health program um that originated out a little bit further out west of the state. Um they've done several presentations throughout the year. Dr. Williams saw them present at one of his superintendent conferences. Um, and I was able to to reach out to them to try to help get more school-based health schoolbased therapy in the schools. So,
what they do, they are a nonprofit organization. They gets most of their money through federal grants and through, of course, insurance. Um, so what happens is they hire full-time therapists to enter school system. They can do up to every school that you have. um it's all about can they find those therapists to put in the school and which is probably going to be something we'll struggle with. Um but when they hire that full-time therapist, that person stays at the school every day like a normal employee just like they were would be a Gates County employee. Um they even do they do duties, they do lunch duties, they do after school activities, they do athletic athletic events. Um, so theou is to go in a partnership with Integra Health. That does not mean we've broken our
partnership with Integrated Family Services. They we currently use them in all five schools, but they only have one therapist that rotates around and they'll tell you she's wonderful. >> Oh, never mind. >> So hopefully I I did talk to Roxan. They still plan to have somebody in here. What our hope is for right now is to continue that rotation at the elementary school level to pull a full-time therapist at the middle school and high school. Um we talked big times about Miss Austin needing some kind of help. It' be a perfect opportunity. That is my number one priority to get the middle school filled with a full-time therapist. Uh and then the high school would be the next. If we could eventually get to five, we would most certainly do that. I'm just I'm I'm
I won't say worried, but I'm hoping that they can find a better place to come in. They just literally signed on with Perto County, so they're getting ready to go over there as well, which is a good time to start promoting before places like Camden County go next. So, >> so this this therapist is there's two of them, right? >> We're asking for two. Yes, >> we're asking for two. So, they haven't placed anybody yet? >> No, sir. So we give them a space I'm assuming inside school office or something that they can work out of. >> Correct. >> Um how would the students um become knowledgeable of the therapist or or is that a referral from a administrator to the therapist? How would that how that relationship work? >> So it would start just
like we do right now with integrated. This is a referral process. A guidance counselor would make a referral. A teacher can make a referral. Principal can make a referral. The difference with this program, I'm hoping, is is that therapist will be in that school every day and create relationships that are not really based off referrals. So whereas Miss Jordan comes in and rotates around the school, she's not there every day. So even though they might not be, you know, they might not have signed on to get therapy, contemporar says that these therapists don't mind talking to students about the little things here and there that you wouldn't get normally through somebody who rotates between. So it would be a referral process and then there would be u consent from parents, insurance, all that stuff is
covered. >> Sorry. >> Yeah. No liability there. >> That is where the federal grant funding comes in. >> So this is no different sports medicine that we can refer to and say questions. Any more questions? Okay. What's the pleasure of the board as far as partnership? >> It's a one year. Yes, sir. We got to redo the door. >> Okay. I have a motion second. A motion to second. All those in favor signify by saying I. I motion carries. Okay. Uh on the next item, Summit Islands, uh Dr. Jordan has requested that summit island start June the 8th and go through August the 7th. Board members, what's the pleasure? >> Make a motion to accept that. >> I have a motion to send some motion and second. All those in favor signify saying I. Motion
carries. >> Sorry, chair. Did Did you guys already vote on policies? >> Yeah, we already that was >> okay. >> Any consideration? >> Okay. Well, there's one thing that I want to mention on policy though because there is a new policy in there. You're not actually voting at this time. That is only for review. So, any new policy comes up, it has to be reviewed twice. So, the first reading is the next the next board meeting you can approve the video policy. That's right. I think the way it was written policy update. >> What's that? >> I think the way it was written policy update. >> Yeah. >> Right. >> Okay. And last item, um AI, um board members that will be there to assist administrative assistant. And I think roughly the cost is about
$20. >> I have a motion to approve it. >> Have a motion to second. All those in favor signify by saying. Okay. Moving along to item 10. There's the budget resolution. And we've got the budget resolution. Thank you. In front of you, you have your monthly December report. Your state funding is running out at 87.67%. Uh today's payroll will hit tomorrow is not on this. You will see some of the expenditures after this coming payroll start go down to your local 74.44%. Federal grants doing well at 75.39%. Capital is getting close to being expected at 91.62%. Child nutrition is at 86.42% 2% on the year restricted fund is at 81.96%. You have any questions? Um your purchase pretty good. >> They don't have the only CT. Anybody have any questions for us? Okay, moving along
to state, federal and budget resolution. >> Federal state. >> All right. My statement is uh the you're starting to see expenditures of the move being moved to local that 62% the negative 62% part of a 202 that was done from moving somebody's 19 software has handled that I don't look but that's what the state has been wrapped up in this particular junction of the Okay, any other questions? If not, moving on to the you can see my federal is bits and pieces of money that is still triple in right toward the end of the year. But I still use the bill they get money comes in and we'll put supplies or workshops just to make sure that everything is accounted for before the end of the year. Any questions belong to the list? >> Restricted
date. Uh this is the old feastium adjustment. This is initially received $5,000 planning resolution 5,000 but it was adjusted. We got Mr. Right to 105 I believe it was. So what you're seeing there is an adjustment of that particular a lot of which is about four or five counties in this area that they did money. Mr. Wright can speak more about that as far as supplies and things of that nature. And my last cover, my local regular local is actually see some of my teacher expenditures. That's kind of what that is now. >> That was the whole problem state, >> right? some of my state really that's a big thing I'd like to cover next year can't cover payroll throughout And that's that's real concern right now. Raise ahead. Right now we're a little bit
up and next year is a whole different set of numbers especially if the budget the local budget remains flat. We really care for our ability to pay our teachers that last month where we get that little flexibility next year. >> State should go to all your staff and expend. Okay. Any other questions? Okay. Board members, Mr. Herald gave to you the state, the federal, the local, and local. Are there any qu I mean, do I have a motion? >> I'll make a motion to >> Okay, Mr. HS made a motion to approve. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> I have a motion and second. All those in favor signify by saying I. I. I. Thank you. >> Okay. The next thing on the agenda is other business. I lost my little sticky. So
y'all come on. Okay. The board has um going I'm going to call a special call meeting on May the 14th at 9:00 at Gatesville Schools on 2026. And the purpose of the meeting is to finalize whether they be transfers or whatever the recommendations are filling in the spots and moving spots. Then on May the 18th, the boy will meet at 9:00 in a special call meeting. The purpose of that is the attorney privilege and that will be at 9:00 at noon. And the last thing that we have is set a date, time, location. You don't want the calendar second. glasses off. What we needed to talk to her about that advocacy could not 10. I think we can do that. No, I mean we we were all invited to go to this advocacy workshop on
the 9th and 10th. >> Okay. >> Um but I don't think anybody has made a hardcore decision whether we going to do it or not. It was $80 to go to the meeting, which of course is not bad for two days, but the um >> the accommodations were were pretty high. So I don't know >> you conference very high just >> because it's the host. So I I would encourage you in the surrounding area. I'm sure it would be much cheaper. >> So do we need to go get longer or just talk to the afternoon? >> I can see if she's over here, but I know she was helping us and take some things back. Let me see if she's over here. I don't understand. I assure you this thing. This might be the last
time. meeting on the 9th and 10th. >> Yes. >> Are you all still going? >> Yeah. >> I think I would like to go, but we don't want to stay at that place. >> Not exact place. sacrifice. >> Can we find a cheaper accommodation in which to >> stay you? Yeah, there's a there's a >> June. >> Yes. They do have like two schedule one with an actual body candy. So that would be the t. So yeah, the hotel is not important piece of information that is just a place to sleep. It's not like it's something happened in the hotel. There's a Hampton and our contact. >> She can change. >> Thank you. the night. So, everybody's going to go >> I mean 9 and 10 something. So um everybody's going to go to the
um seminar on the 9th the 10th and we'll work on arrangements while we're standing location and then that means June the 8th would be okay. Okay. What time? Fine. Okay. So, 4 to 6 would close and six will be open session. Is that okay? >> And that is fine with me. If we can again the consent agenda 23:30 uh morning agenda we talked about. >> Yeah. Okay. I'm good. >> Okay. All right. And then the other item under business is clarification on policy 2330. >> Yes. >> If that's okay. >> Yeah. school. >> Mr. Hayes, you feel slid. >> It's It's actually policy code 2335 ex materials. It reads, "At least 3 days prior to each regular special board meeting, the superintendent shall provide the following materials to each board member. the proposed agenda, minutes
of previous meetings that had not been approved, and any supporting information on materials that would assist or to become informed of the issues proposed by the board for consideration. And I think in March 25th, we actually moved up seven days. So, everybody and >> so rather than seven days they say how many days >> yes >> so seven days >> I'm not saying that things cannot be um adjusted or anything that always comes with amended >> I I think that what we were looking for we just sort of think about it three steps is if you could get the proposed agenda by Monday. So I don't even mean on Monday. We can get the proposed agenda by Monday so we can digest it and delete what we're going to do to it. Give it back
to you by Wednesday. Then you can do the last minute things are coming in from anybody and then we can have it published on the web page by Friday. So the meeting will be Monday. general public that see the agenda on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But I think what's happened is we publish on Monday morning something comes up in court. I think we publish it on our school site by that everybody can relax time to look at it. maybe call a member call this squeeze time out trying to give up like that state the proposed agenda that doesn't say the final agenda so there can be some corrections that come Monday. >> Yes. >> Correct. >> That's correct. I think what we talked about if you didn't have it in by Wednesday you had to bring
it to the meeting on that Monday and that would be the cut on time anybody could agend business. Do I have any more discussion? Okay, board members, you've heard the clarification in the amendment of policy 235. It is clearly stated what days what it was brought to my attention that March the 25th we designed this but it wasn't Okay. So, I would like to thank and that's what I'm asking for. Thank you. I have a motion second. All those motion carries. >> Okay. I'm ask a Yeah, I understand they brushed the principles of trying to get something on the agenda. Let's go back to say I know that back if they need to add something up to Wednesday, you know, to put something on the agenda. We're just going to at the end of Wednesday,
we really need to get that agenda polished in the public to see because if you if you go through our agenda, we're engaging public, it takes a while to get through policy change and every approval kind of thing. Not that you have a weekend. Yeah. >> So I will not >> Thank you very much. >> Okay. Morning members. If you got the business um we did not finish close session. So um we um took a recess for that and we're going to go back into close session Dr. We have we have Okay. Yes, we have to close. Okay. We can do it in that respons. Okay. So, do I have a motion to go back to the close session? I have a motion to go back to closed. Have a motion and second. All those
signify by say I. >> I.
