Walmart body took another job so I have a TA position number that's it delete delete okay good evening thank you everybody for being here in person it is 6 33 and this is the February 27th uh monthly board meeting for Scholars Academy more than 10 minutes and I think you are our first item to read our mission statement all right Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy provides a differentiated challenging and Equitable learning environment that supports the distinctive intellectual social and emotional needs of highly gifted children from diverse backgrounds and enables them to form meaningful relationships with their intellectual peers and I just very briefly look over the zoom webinar etiquette rules meetings will be broadcast to the public via the zoom webinar platform this medium is more secure as it requires attendees to register limit interactivity removes

the ability to communicate without permission and does not permit Anonymous participation comment or annotation registration will require the submission of a first and last name and an email so the next item on the agenda is to approve the minutes from our January 23rd meeting I would entertain a mission to do so thank you Adam and Mike all those in favor any opposition the January minutes have been approved the next item is to see if there are any amendments to the agenda and I do propose that we mix the closed session as we don't have any contracts for employment items to cover tonight are there any other changes to the agenda okay um I would entertain a motion to improve it as amended thank you thank you all those in favor any opposition okay we will

proceed with the amended uh agenda this brings us to our first opportunity for Community comments and the public is welcome to speak limited to three minutes Chris Speaker topics should not cover private confidential or personal information the board will not respond or enter into dialogue on topics to discuss at this time you may indicate your desire to participate in the community comments by raising your hands either through the zoom chat or um in your little window wait for a moment to see if our list of participants would like to comment s see if they can hear us okay um could our participants whenever participants know that we are audible this evening given our track history track record yay okay thank you [Music] um okay so that takes us uh to our next item which is

the director's report and would you like me to pull that up just good evening everybody uh just a couple quick updates on the first slide we do have the library up and running finally the students have been going through and the kids are super excited um You probably saw some pictures on Facebook of the library in action so I think stuartina that that's happening and that's been wonderful Boosterthon starts this week on Wednesday we'll start the the Boosterthon Bun Run uh fundraiser that is the fundraiser that is through the PTO but we do have a lot of work that is done on our end to make it happen um the kids will be coming home every night um talking about the things that they learned through the first program culminating in a fun run that

is K2 it does a run three four does a run and then the fifth or eighth grade does a color run on in the afternoon and there are some amazing challenges for them to raise money that includes some things that involve me getting duct taped and decorated with ketchup or something like that so um hopefully they'll raise all the money last year I got slimed they're trying to to up the ante this year so um yeah looking forward to it it's a lot of fun and um you know a really good event for our community and a good fundraiser for our PTO um I do have several things to discuss tonight one of them being to um put up for a vote for the 2324 calendar you have in the next two slides these are

the exact same ones that you had last year um two different versions of the calendar um the calendar that I am proposing that we um that we uh passed is calendar the draft B which is the second calendar that's on the slide um the first the difference between the first and second calendar was simply the first calendar had five days at Thanksgiving break those two Monday and Tuesday days have been moved in calendar B to the December winter break um that was overwhelmingly uh preferred by our staff and most of the feedback has been that that would be the preference I'm so proposing that we um you put up for votes uh draft B of the 2324 calendar I don't know if we want to stop and do that now are there any questions about

the two versions for the win I guess most importantly the one that's being proposed what is the difference from the CMS calendar um we do never stay with CMS with regards to teacher work days or early release days those are independent of odds what's always the thing for us is that we always start within a day or so of CMS at the beginning of the year ending within a day or so of the end of the year as a sdms same spring break at CMS and then the winter holiday is very similar um CMS has got uh does not have that Monday Tuesday off they start on Wednesday with their holiday break so I mean they're trying to keep the major you know big holidays as close as possible the CMS for families that have

children who are ncms understanding that not all of our children come from CMS but that does represent the largest percentage of our students so that's where we've gone and trying to make it consistent for those family thank you no more virtual days maintaining the early release days for professional development and uh you know similar teacher work days of this year um for report card preparation and one in there for our gifted conference like what we had today and this is with the school day starting at five minutes earlier it's 805. yes this is a school starting at 805 which allows us to um make up for a couple of virtual days with hours so that we did not have to extend the number of days for the school year from where we what we had

this year and then 310 fish yes the only difference is that we will close the doors at 805 next year as opposed to 8 10. and this still allows for it still allows for the two the two whether um related makeup days however the state of North Carolina has a loud proportional things for weather makeup so we did have a severe you know weather situation in which you know if we're going to close for one day we're going to use those weather makeup days but if you know for whatever reason there was an ice storm or something that closed school for five days state has allowed for virtual days to be used for weather emergencies no further questions on entertain a motion to adopt the um proposed academic calendar draft b as presented by Ms

Piper all those in favor any posts the academic calendar draft B has been approved spec okay uh the next thing on the um thing was what on the uh the agenda was um the gifted conference which was held here today uh we did have our whole staff here today for a full day of training on gifted education our keynote speaker was Dr Matt dekrowski who is a clinical psychologist to um practices in New Jersey he his his focus is on gifted neurodiversion children and so um he was able to give us very specific practical real world uh ideas of how to work with our children his keynote was about how to get kids unstuck it was really really fantastic um everybody was really excited about just everything he had to say and the way he

said it in such an accessible way he spent the whole day with us so he did some a couple other sessions but our teachers also did some sessions I've linked if you want to look at a later time I won't you know have you guys go through the whole schedule right now but I've linked the schedule so you can see all all the sessions that were offered today our OT our speech therapist our counselor presented as well several of our teachers presented lots of different gifted strategies that they're using in their classroom so it was really fantastic our lunch was provided by Katie Northstar who gave us some money to be able to cater lunch for the for the people who were attending we did have some people attend in person from a CMS school

and we also had about 50 people attend throughout the day virtually because all of our sessions we offered via Zoom as well so they're offered in a hybrid way so we're able to it was really exciting to be able to offer this conference Beyond just our staff to be able to offer to others we advertise in the in the North Carolina not North Carolina the National Association of gifted children magazine and so a lot of people saw it and signed up to attend one or more of our zooms today so very cool good day was it the speaker um three or he was not free we that's we paid for him to come and you know come and present he's also spending tomorrow with us uh to work with the children and if you're if

you do not have it on your calendar we'd love to have as many parents attend the parents session that will be held via Zoom at noon but he's working with our kids throughout the day doing uh all kinds of gifted trivia and SEL table games that um it should be a lot of fun for us to spend the reason that we got him at a reasonable price is because he is the keynote speaker for the North Carolina Association of gifted and talented conference which is in Winston-Salem this week Wednesday Thursday Friday so they were paying for his flight anyways so we got to kind of piggyback with the association to get him here for a couple days and to spend some time with us he's working in large groups so there's the we're starting with

the third and fourth graders out in the cafeteria and he has games that are attended for big groups of kids would ask for them to accomplish um he said you know it's more of like communication games where the kids are going to give him tasks to their tables and then he's sending them back to their classrooms to do stuff in just their homerooms that he sent out to the teacher that's more trivia-based um he likes to do a lot of games that um teach kids how to fail um one of he did a game with us and he's like we're gonna play a game you can't win you're going to fail you know like but but you're going to learn through the process and so he's a lot of that kind of teaching kids skills

through games yeah I think I mean he's so Dynamic that that I think the kids will really you know really connect with him and he's just very funny and laid back so so some of the uh attendees in today's session were obviously teachers so is there any information that they share that could be used as a way to network with them for potential opportunities here do you mean um to attend virtually I mean I I hope so but we we do you know use this as a a marketing tool for teachers as well we have all of their contact information and we're going to be sending out all the um you know materials and of course saying yeah hey you know about our school stay in touch and hopefully hopefully they will we did have

a teacher last year who had applied to come to the conference and then applied for a job here I'm gonna chose to do something else but it definitely can't open up opportunities more brand building than my individual Marketing in the future well I think the intent is not that's not the primary intent the primary intent is that it does stay in our Charter and is part of our strategic plan to do gifted Outreach right that for us to become a hub for gifted education information to spread it to other to other schools so that's really the purpose but certainly that's the secondary you know secondary purpose any other questions about the conference except for February 20th next year we're already trying to work on directly keynote will be and was this uh part of the

independent grants that we got yeah we're paying for this is our major professional development you know cost that we budget for okay um I also the linked here is a is a presentation I am not going to take you through all this thing but I did you can go ahead and click on it but um I did want to um just say that this was on the on the list of things to talk to the board about tonight which is our social emotional program um I again don't want to go through all these slides but just to show you that these are the components that are included so just we're going to go scroll through really quickly uh we do have classes that happen there are different times for different grade levels but for the

most part there are lessons happening two to three times per week depending on the grade level but you don't need to see all these specifics but again this is how it's set up understanding that there are buddies that are happening and you all know that there are bunnies happening but um you can go ahead this is how our buddies was that it's twice per month they're paired such that the older kids are paired with younger kids so that there is a older and younger buddy system you can go ahead you just go past this one the fifth through eighth grade is using a curriculum that's different than what the k-4 is using the k34 is using the Second Step curriculum the fifth through eighth grade is using the casel domains which is the kind of

the foundation for scl these are the five domains so the kids are going to spend six to eight weeks in each of those different domains rotating through but the curriculum for those has been designed by our staff not something we got from a box for the fifth or eighth grade so that's how our SEL looks a little bit different than just the Second Step curriculum that's being used in the k34 this is the definitions of all those things if you're interested in looking at that later go ahead and keep going the other components besides buddies that's included are electives the electives was added as part of the SEL program electives are not graded they are literally just intended to give kids exposure to something outside the content area really for just the pure curiosity of

learning and so our electives have been expanded this year beyond what they had been in in the in the back in the previous years and so we've got some really um interesting uh electives going on this year to include improv um to include a newspaper that's happening um the set design for the play it's happening through electives so this is really giving the kids kind of a different Outlet um and and their the kids the kids enjoying them you can go ahead we have some whole school assemblies that look like lower school and upper school we have not really done assemblies anymore that are K-8 by the hard to do anything that kindergartner and eighth grader is going to enjoy at the same time but we do want to get them together in you know

bigger groups so that has started happening again since since kind of the post-covered world our Thursdays are our that that assemblies plus the Buddies so when you you know see your hear about your your child with the Buddies they are getting a chance to meet with those buddies twice a month every this person second um Thursdays but the last one okay um so just you know there's a lot of information here this is just I just wanted to give you the overview of what that looks like uh I think I missed one piece guest speakers are something we incorporated this year that hasn't been intentional until this year because I would say that's probably the only thing that's really brand new is that uh when they're not in assemblies in the second half of the

month they're getting guest speakers and if you have not been asked to be a guest speaker um and you have some kind of exciting career path that you'd like to to offer I know at least one person has been in here as a guest speaker uh we you know would love to hear about different career paths just to give the kids the opportunity to hear about different things so um we had a member of the um chain I think the Chamber of Commerce potentially somebody in local government came came uh last time and it's just all kinds of different opportunities for the kids to hear from different people so that's been great any questions about the fzl program just wanted to give you a like an overview of what it what we're doing in through

the SEO program there are of course um you know a lot more to it than what I want to explain to you in 10 minutes but um you're just trying to I'll give you is there anything you said this year the new thing was like a second step program for the younger kids and the electives for the older kids is there anything against a are those going well and you want to keep them and then is there anything else in the works just high level for next year so um the second step program is what we've been using since the beginning the only thing that's new this year the second step is that we do some grant money to purchase the digital version of the curriculum which is given our staff the more uh updated

version of the lessons and digital tools that they can show videos and other things uh but the actual program is the same as what it's been electives we've been doing electives for several years but what we hadn't done until this year was bring it into the SEL time and by doing that it um gave us the ability to expand it because all of our staff is available during that time and prior to trying to fit into the schedule we could only fit in electives that I could find a teacher who was available to teach it so it's just given us the ability to expand it so I think that's been good the only real challenge we have is they still say it's not enough time you know because it's 30 minutes and it's like by

the time they get kids get started you know it's over um and I don't have a good solution to that but I think that's something that the five minutes is gonna help because right now I still starts at 8 10 so the door is closed and some people think that because the doors close at 8 10 they should get here at 809 in 47 seconds so their kid they're late and they're missing those first five minutes of that at the L tonic so closing a door 805 hopefully they'll be ready to go with E10 uh then the guest speakers is new that's a new component the guest speakers is once a month for each yes K4 what the K4 is in assembly with the counselor 5V has got speakers and then that flip-flops the next

week and that's gone well um the only challenge is that some grade levels are having trouble finding guest speakers but I think we can you know work on that because I know that there's plenty of people out in the community who are willing to come and talk make it exciting probably I mean the reality is that a lot of our kids are going to grow up to be bankers foreign like partying and stuff we were all stuck in the lab working so it's our turn to be cool now that's very cool I just wanted to say that you can also be a guest speaker on other topics like I I went to kindergarten their study for scl they're studying different countries and kindergarten is studying Italy so I reached out to teach us today you

know I'm first generation my parents were born there let me know if you want me to do anything so she asked me to come in and speak so I did not speak about layering thing you know I'm sure the kindergartner would have been so mesmerized but so um I spoke about Italy so you know special you know talent in or um I don't I don't know interest in I'm sure the teachers would love to have you been yeah the guest speakers aren't necessarily just career-based they can be guest speakers about any kind of you know topic of Interest yes and I won't open the link here again so but it's here for you if you'd like to see just included a little bit of information the last piece was the Mental Health Plan update I

just wanted to tell you what the initiatives from the mental health plan which for those of you who were on the board last year uh the state of North Carolina said last year we had to develop a mental health plan that had to be on file with this with the state and so that was the um you know the beginning of the mental health plan in a day kind of a working document where we're adding new goals each year and updating it so when we updated it for this year these were the things that we had identify this thing that we wanted to do and all of those things have been addressed in various different ways for um this school year and the cultural Affairs something brand new uh and looking forward to that happening

as you were just mentioning happening at the end support I believe it's March 30th is that right then what is it May April 7th yes March 30th or something else that would be that parent night parent math night that the pto's doing yeah okay um so that the whole plan we won't necessarily link on that there's just one more slide uh some other thing that we have not done but we are working on um well we have we have actually purchased the Second Step online program for the K4 what we haven't done is the training for the new pieces of it so there's some components that are brand new so that second step program need some training we are still working on the SEL scope and sequence that is going to happen before the end

of the year that's been on the agenda for several years we are working to try to find some connections to some local agencies to help us with some of these mental health topics uh because we don't necessarily have the same resources that DMS does so that's something that our counselors working to try to develop some relationships there um and then the last thing uh we are this is a this is a going into next year plan is that we want to develop a school-wide language and uh there's something that's in development right now that fifth and sixth grade team already uses they call their language soar which has different components for how we want our children to be safe to uh and to take accountability responsibility and then over what the O stands for but

it's a school-wide model for expectations for our kids from a social emotional and mental health perspective and so that's something that's being worked on to develop norms school-wide and call it soar to be like our Eagles sixth grade team is actually the ones that developed it last year as something that they came up with for their students um we really liked it and so we have been talking with the counselor about how can we expand that to be a school-wide initiative it's going to look different in kindergarten than it looks in fifth and sixth grade but it's a language that we can all connect with and say that this is how we um want our children students to behave and interact with each other okay any questions about the mental health plan yeah I've been

sixth grade teachers yes developed again fifth and sixth grade is probably the most challenging time in our students experience from a behavior they're they're at a Crossroads between being elementary school children and being big kids and so behavioral challenges in fifth and sixth grade historically are the greatest so it's but it traditionally is the greatest need for um having you know understanding of exploitation and um you know there have been some challenges with the fifth and sixth grade in the last several weeks but that is not abnormal that is that is it typical for this to be a challenging time in our kids development um as they move to adolescent um thank the fifth and sixth grade teacher anytime you see them they are amazing people I'm done just as we're headed into budgeting season

do you see anything I guess that we need to be looking for for Grants here or anything where we should be thinking ahead to setting money aside thinking additional resources either people or otherwise we have we still have more counseling need than we have funds for so if additional grant money comes along that would be my number one priority is to be able to bring back a part-time or you know second counselor uh her caseload is is pretty significant and the the counseling needs are significant in the school and so for her to be able to handle that plus also be able to deliver lessons in the classroom you know and running the Sao program it's it's a very very big job for one person yeah okay I'm trying to go fast enough to not

bore you but slow enough to be able to cover the content of you know if anyone feels that there's additional things on these that you'd like me to be adding or taking away please please let me know it was a perfect balance exactly um I know that our next item is a committee update from governance Erica um but it is going out tomorrow we had um Mr Bella's been helping us put that together um I spoke to her today and we'll be sending that out tomorrow brief uh update to the community regarding what we're doing just again some high level updates and kind of also leads into the community Tower Hall that we're having on April 19th um we'll put out the governance committee and we'll put out more information with respect to that you

know how we anticipate um to format being and the Beautiful kind of participation for number one we would like um we have the staff survey along with the Ed evaluation those are all coming up so you know for those um uh Miss Piper will the goals that Miss Piper complete her evaluation self-evaluation by March 24th and then the word will get their evaluation service Piper and we'll send out staff valuation at that time too with hopefully getting the results that I before spring break every week so the deadline um those results will go to the retained a third party her name is Cheney written written an hour right now and um surveys and and put together a basically a summary of the the results recommendations um so and we'll go or for that coming up

good many emails asking if you've done it yet so we're trying to give about two weeks a week so give or take um so for recruitment efforts for next year we have for four board members meeting I believe it was four four board members leaving that is if they don't stay on for an extra term which we hope they do um but we desperately need more numbers anything you can do to you know step up your payment efforts um we're also you know more than happy to take people who aren't familiar with Metrolina Scholars Academy as far as um you know it doesn't have to be apparent it can be somebody outside the organization um I you know for example I reached out to the uh associate partner at like firm that said you know

do you think there's any Associates who might be interested in me becoming a board member because it could be a good opportunity just to you know it looks good on your resume quite frankly um and so he he said he'd you know be more than happy to send an email out seeing if anybody is interested so I have to put that together for him and he'll send that out just so just things like that if you you know work with you know a large organizations and small organizations if anybody has any interest in volunteering be a board member um again just try and think outside the box to get some participation is actually all of that should go well if we don't really have exception Ally the thing is like three training for the board

we have an explanations to just nominate yourself of the board Ultra boost I know I don't know the answer to that I don't know because there's several organizations they meet Charlie even though we were like you know period so 30 days before the annual meeting which is the 30 days leading up to the next June 26th or June 27th at in our bylaws were required to have it open for them period because it's a 30 days before that it said that it would have to match up obviously you can use the same form remember the same type of coincided foreign laws I don't see why you the foundation would be able to you know develop its own recruitment efforts and you know goals I don't think they're Bound by our bylaws and as they're only

found at the accepting a nomination like I think it's all of our jobs to be having those conversations now because it takes a while to get someone's head around committing to three years so I think we're in recruiting season it's just we accept the nominations because I wasn't sure you were saying that it has to be open that much money thank you that's what I get tickets I feel like it's like it can open the 30 days no no you have to close it 30 days before when you're around right I don't know I think you're right I think it's that you have to close it the 30 days beforehand so there's something if we have tons of people applying then great let's open it up but we don't so I don't want to go

through a mile or you know um you know perfect was I was just assuming it's actually okay to be open I just need to close that that's that's right I think it was that it closed 30 days of the meeting so that's when we do the interviews and governance team talks about it with their mister for the external uh potential candidates we'll shoot things area of interest but I don't want to make it that difficult maybe reach out to you because you're the chair before that then it gets to whoever it needs you to okay as opposed to an email so yeah because they may be interested but they may not uh you know commit to it so somehow you know answer some questions you know yes and they may know someone else so I

mean it's kind of a pipeline that people um and I know the foundation is sort of the supporting organization so there is a lot of energy between this board and then the trust and the foundation so uh you know you can always you know talk about that in that way there is a candidates that are interested in one may not be available for three years but maybe do it for two years so you know interested yeah so how much leeway do we have with that though it's the billing the remainder of someone else I believe it's required to do three but if you want it to be trusty instead that's too such is that what you're saying like three for the board two for those that's right you can always look I always thought for

the board was that one-year extension or you know how I understood it um and then you had to take at least one year off but when we went back to the bylaws to read it it appears you can do two consecutive three-year terms and then you have to take a year off so really nobody has to roll off at the end of this year say another right I'm like technically I started three and a half years ago you're already in your first year yeah so you're stuck for another yeah we have our why losses through you know your term but it's all voluntary right so no I think it's I think that is the conversation is that it is for you absolutely what happens so in fact it may be less than three years but

I think the positioning should be it is a three-year commitment because a lot of these things are interesting not where we get everything wrapped up pretty with a bow in a few months that's just not reality and we all can reflect on our own individual experiences but at least for myself I mean it it was a process to understand you know the history that comes before um from other board members the relationships that the board members develop amongst themselves and how they work and then you want to you know walk away from it did some type of a strong Legacy right you know that we did do certain things uh covered aside you know there are you know so it does take that home yeah and it allows for the overlap life happened 17 years

here but when all is said is done well I'm sorry I started on year six so of our heart is six years in in person session with the parents Canal yeah good chance to answer questions about our own and I think that I've mentioned it too I think I feel like well I don't I don't know anything I don't have a skill set and yeah yeah I mean obviously if you have a you know a specialized background that could help one of our companies create I mean even better but um yeah you just need to be committed and I need to do the work and whatnot so and organizations benefit because they get Community Development credits you know so the large Enterprises they count that the words you know whatever uh the key Enterprise measurements

are so I mean not everyone kind of thing at that level but you know for those that are looking into it from a leadership perspective I mean that's a big deal that I'm considered website um right now we have the website the web address or the email address excuse me this is the board we're gonna ask questions um we're gonna put together uh basically Google before where people can submit questions to the board um just to see maybe get some more participation from that way more questions um right now we're thinking that it can be anonymous or you can put your name on it um if you don't put your name on it you might not you just might not get a response I mean because we don't know who the director responds to some

questions will address you know in meetings if you think it's a question that you know many people might have other questions we might not be able to answer because they're not a thinner um our rental responsibilities so we're looking to do that and believe that will go that will start prior to the town halls it starts the video questions that way um there's also one other thing I wanted to mention and I forgot to tell you until I opened up my notes um we have been exploring a membership with the North Carolina Association for public Charter Schools essentially they are a I guess for lack of federal worthy lots of things but they do basically logging on behalf of charter schools they provide they try different things in both areas of support they have webinars

um you know they have a conference coming up in and they have a conference coming in July so support for schools education and advocacy you know on behalf of the charter schools they have um they you know they have a lobbying under retainer that actually goes you know and and lobbies charter schools so uh Miss Piper in high school were two Roundup is the the head of the organization and just learning a little bit about the organization because we're in charter school like they are but we're unique so we just wanted to make sure that our goals and were aligned and I mean I I think that I think it's a good thing um I think that what they're doing is would only benefit us is that our name having a being attached to that

I think provides us some you know a foot in the door to influence legislation I mean obviously we're not going to be you know dictating legislation but if you know if they're lobbying a certain position we can put our input we put our input in on that um and you know they have a list of all the charter schools on their website or members so I think you know obviously that provides them some work well as well so um membership is based on ADM and so our membership would be for this year she would it would be half because it's half the years gone by but the full year will be 1768.50 um we think we have money in the budget for it so we would use that so I really don't think we need

any type of formal Vote or anything like that but because we are attaching our name or I'd like to attach our name to this organization I think it necessitates just bored knowledge so that's just an FYI if you want to ask more questions afterwards um but I think the plan is to join um I'll send an email out just saying hey look you know we're going to join by the state once I hear objections and again at the North Carolina Association for public charter schools people go on their website install learn about all the stuff they do what uh once a membership is approved would they be applying to have any type of uh communication within the school Community or you know because I feel like it's a more of a higher level like an

Administration tool board of directors to Google as opposed to like community and parent tools just because you're a member doesn't mean you're a better school you know what I mean it doesn't provide any clout besides the fact of they're going to you know politicians and politicians they're advocating for a position and obviously the politicians really want to know who supports this and so our game would be listed so um I mean we can put it in a newsletter just so everybody is aware of it um but I'm not sure if we need to do like a whole write-up already almost anyone else has any other opinion obviously be happy to you know talk at all culture right that doesn't mean manager what do you invite there's no such thing as private parts it doesn't include

management so there's they seem to have a lot of resources to what they said have stuff about policies and it's a support I think it's small enough too where I called Rhonda up and asked her question she would answer it or she would pick up the phone um so and I believe um I'm not sure how Lisa Gordon Stella did I say it right how he's competing I'm not sure how she's involved she's important on the board or whatnot but she's closely associated with that organization as well um the last comments you made there's a chance that if we have certain mandated policies that we need to get that might be a resource where you don't have to write them exactly yeah yeah because right now like we either write them or at least not

has something you know on the Shelf she'll just you know charge us a web feed this way we will be getting from the you know organization so do I think we're going to get our you know make our money's worth and maybe they're expecting the benefits more into tangible than tangible maybe a good resource once they join you know to have external uh you know like we were talking about external folks to join the board to you know in the local area because I know that I'm about to know so I think that would be a good resource and you know what if they're not I mean you don't join next year so and this is based on the EDM so next year will be based on ADM for 2023 does that make sense that's

all I have thank you appreciate that um our next item is expansion foreign hopefully if anyone's interested in today's dating or from Brooklyn living most likely because if we have too many board members but anyway um if anyone interested in Infinity you're welcome to join us um of all of our skills so the action item we have uh that was a multitasking we have in the building but maybe we don't know if we're saying so an assessment um where we should spend our next dollar is worth spending and the the other action item dance we are going back to the architecture um we're actually a little to have the discussion on what has been done and what do they know about building what the expectations reports adding another code to someone or one level um

we have a a committee meeting with modern fish because last time we were trying to figure out a day so because we haven't had it right um expansion because that may be the most well at home is something that people probably be able to help um is your entry pass to expansion committee meeting is to also attend the and Excellence um yeah you make a good point though expansion committee gives Community interest and it's a good recruiting tool for Boardman that's how I got here that you have peace well you've had your first meeting and you already had one Community remember at 10 you already have a higher attendance no one seems to dial into that one or show up this is Finance if you talk a lot of like probably Duke and we're like

that one come on update and for all work you've been doing on a stepper I will pass it now to Dominique's for diversity equity and inclusion committee updates okay great thank you so I'll read first what's on the agenda which should kind of round us and Orient us to the goal of the committee it's our diversity equity and inclusion statement Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy strives to provide a community for our students and staff that values diversity while providing an equitable and inclusive learning environment so with that said um we have some updates to share we have shared in the prior meeting for the first read our religion and schools policy so we would like to put it up for a vote this evening we also want to touch on the upcoming Multicultural Experience day which

is April 7. that's the last day of school before spring break so it's the perfect way to transition into the time away from school it is an all-day where in the morning there are more activities I think in a larger group and then the in the afternoon it's not as getting open from what I recall we were able to meet with the staff committee earlier this month and really help them kind of prepare the passports because the kids are going to have passports for the event and then the last item on our agenda is the um diversity Equity inclusion action plan that we've developed and we have been it's also attached to the agenda so we have been using the plan to help with our priorities with a Dei committee so for example if you

scroll down a bit and we encourage everyone to read this we work very hard oh hang on sorry go to the goals which you page [Music] perfect so we look specifically at the goals that are on this page three there are five goals so the first one is to recruit a retaining students and staff that more closely reflect the diversity of the child community so the board in general but I would say the Dei committee for sure is very much oriented on this one when we came to support the staff and the teachers with the group testing we did see some additional faces so it it was the largest group has this paper shared but also seeing different phases so it wasn't necessarily all one so I think we are making some investments in where

we uh promote and make the community aware that we exist and what we're about and I think that we're seeing that in what our applications are looking like some of the other goals I know we've been working through that clearly the staff and administration have more say in removing some of those barriers to attendance that certainly has been a priority for um the school and then continue to develop those Partnerships for diverse organization we talk about that at every meeting and we're doing our best to connect with um various organizations in the community so it's it's not all one again to make increase the awareness and just see where they can benefit from partnering with us as we benefit in many ways through partnering with them I'm really just using this at our form of

accountability because this really drives everything that we do so pause there to see if they're any questions and I think we will talk about the proposed policy in the next video so I just wanted to mention that I wasn't part of diversity last year but this came this document came out of the work that the team did last year and we approved it as a board at the I think the last meeting and then we left for summer so this is a very comprehensive kind of statement of what the board and the school therefore believes in um how we're going to go about trying to increase our diversity equity and inclusion at the school so I think it's kind of the first step and now we're trying to use it throughout the year to start

making changes implements help give direction to the teachers of what what we feel important so expect to see us referring back to this a lot and I think more communication in the community as far as you know bringing everybody's attention to it and helping us all kind of work towards so that will pass us back to Erica and the policy committee um we have um Technologies up for vote tonight the um teleworking policy which was revised world and we have the new policy emotions there's not any questions that you want to to vote on those now has everybody had a chance to look at them there were no edits between Class reading and this meeting and my knowledge everybody yeah I would entertain a motion to adopt the teleworking policy as amended because it's presented

found those in favor all right but any opposed that teleworking policy has been adopted one quick question here Erica so the revision date is applying is that going to be man okay um and then this would be formatted like the other policies or it is formatted as another policy I think I formatted it like the other possible the contact the substance because the other policy the non-discrimination one and this one looks different uh you know yes yeah well however they look will make it look we'll make it look nice yeah in the world remember yeah I'll I'll figure it out where we put that okay uh entertain a motion to approve the religion and schools policy as presented by the policy committee thank you all those in favor of any opposed the religion and schools

policy has been approved thank you um just I think we have a couple other policies coming up the time and working on and it gives you know we are working on this right now I'm not sure if you all noticed in the school newsletter last you're asking for a community volunteer to help put together the policies and award user-friendly format so right now the policies are posted on our website and I'm word on track as separate PDFs for each policy so we want to combine them all into one PDF that's you know has a table contents is searchable what not just it's easier to maintain I think it's also easy to read so we're asking if anybody in the community would like to help us out with that it's not a difficult task but it

is time consuming um you know you can do it at home a Leisure as of right now I have received no emails [Laughter] someone just to help us format these documents so right now either posted online as a separate PDF document for each policy we want to combine themselves one one PDF for all policies where did we ask for help [Laughter] someone says yeah there's like I said I can give the word versions you know I mean it'll be it'll be easy if you have the word versions it's just again it's just putting it all together right now it's duplicated here on the website and it's also in board on track for the public portal so it's in two places so every time we make an update you've got to go updated in two places

plus you can't search if you're trying to find like how many years can you stay on the board bylaw but you have to open each one to search you can't go you have to search you have to know which one to go find and there's like six pages like all sorts of different things eventually what I'd like to do is I can do it now if I want we wanted to is remove them all from the website the school website you just have a link to order track because there's no reason to have a little places we're just updating both right here yeah and that doesn't require a login right no that's that's it really is um because the way it was hoping wasn't they're not like an order that made sense but after talking

with we're not trapped they seem to have a fixed it so I had I had I did start that process but I just didn't like the way it was appearing on here so they're all in one thing here all you have to change the PTO told me just randomly that they had someone looking probably looking for volunteering my computer technology format and I bet I have a job for them and I got yeah no no this happens um I was just trying to find the email you know had a good job of you know trying to draw attention to it but I mean matter of having people skip too early so before that this would be the last newsletter is good yeah absolutely I think it was you know broken out it was you know

it appeared to be fresh yes that's nice says hey check out maybe the people read the first preseason I keep getting recommendations from someone else who lives in my household who is not a child who thinks that when the community is asking for things like that one for example or people to donate to Transportation budget or something that instead of putting it in a newsletter which is very long and conveys a lot of detailed information we should make like 30 second videos and put it out there like Tick Tock video style or like you know something short hi blah blah blah we need this in your house I want to volunteer to make that video so that was my response because I'd be happy to have her come on in and that's what I said

and she said that yes I'll record you 23. you can talk anything and then I was like oh well right back at you but I don't know I I think some of the reason why we may not get as much response on things is just simply because people don't read that part people read like bare minimum these days and the newsletter on the phone isn't the best it's much better on a computer most people never make it past the phone so if we have the message equipped you know because children are not self-directed because now if we want to get one done it took a long time to get this collection of people to come up with a board newsletter triple that from children right it'll take them all year to make videos right yeah

apply where the items things we need from you yeah um where if it's in other formats it's not necessary yeah I like having everything all over the place questions because like whether host you can know some of the things I thought like my children right at the beginning high level what's on there you know if you choose to read it or not I think the question is I'm not advocating to change the newsletter I'm just saying and it did we could supplement the newsletter with like quick hit videos the things that were important that we wanted to get out here on our Facebook page or on our Instagram page no question that isn't every grade that has like like a like we use class tag for great because every grade I have a class pack

type deal we have like a WhatsApp for sixth grade like a WhatsApp chat I think my ask is is that an opportunity well we had this first reach alerts and stuff that allows us to send quick access right that's right how challenging is it to send through that it's simple but the formatting is very limited right I don't want to we don't have like we can't like you know photos or any kind of like certainly just a text message yeah it's like a little like a certain number of characters but I mean if there's something that you want to like if we had one for me to but if we have wanted to say remember my day is a virtual day we do so if they're things like that we believe me yeah and I

think part of it is that if you overuse it then it removes the same you know importance and depending like quick you know like the hours out you're not gonna mean anything you've got to read that one yeah you see that in all organization so we have a new thread or when it comes one solution but then supplemented by daily like most important one sure and then send it by a chat if anybody because it's almost like we want the Creator to receive it like I want some folks like that of course like messages but it takes more and effort and time to customize it for each of those Communications yeah so when you get the Ed evaluation everyone in this room the first time you get that you will fill it out right foreign

and so I just I can't put one more thing you know on her plane so yeah I'd be in trouble if I didn't pass that along okay for volunteer expertise anytime any of our ideas she does she's an idea machine and I'm like okay go you go do it she's like no I have time I'm gonna push it to the educational Excellence committee up today yeah there is a question in the last two Friday newsletters March 3rd is the deadline for all of our parents to provide feedback through the board and administration we've covered several topics in terms of the school experience and understanding of get that feedback to derive some of our strategic disciplines from the board one of the questions is on communication so hopefully you will receive that and give us some

feedback on how you want to be in better communicate to our community is there any early read on Comedy have actually 71 responses it is anonymous so we don't know exactly is running should we build parents for one child so far we will see more this week we usually get last week families do we have here versus kids I just saw this all the time tonight and then like the next day I'm like did I do that or not and like in my head I completed it I don't think I did you know at that point if you don't remember you probably have better different answers anyways but 73. every time you forget this elections committee will review the results we just talked about going with the plan that are very specific plans that try

to eat for committee so there's definitely educational Excellence component that serves an eei statement we made we will start working on some of those supporters so further Ado I will pass it directly to the foundation okay so um they were it was a document that is obviously added here thank you Captain for adding this uh to the Moon our agenda I don't know that everyone read through it but just the highlights here we are behind obviously and compared to last year it was expected to be like this because they have been a bit of a Euphoria during the cold years so we're kind of comparing ourselves against that but the punchline out of that is that at best and again this is just a projection our goal would be um would be at you know

it'd be if you kind of project that out 445 was the original was the ask for this year where somewhere looking at 420 given you know which you're looking at right now the donations receive the outstanding pledges much higher than last year um you know combination of those two or where we would land potentially is that 420 Nancy for the year um in the next section here I'm not going to go through each of those but there are a bit of a heads up on things that are that have been picked out in terms of you know where the there might be some gaps and those gaps are getting bigger in some cases or the participation of the families essentially you know falling short of expectations the trends that they had established for the prior

years is kind of falling short of that if there are any questions on that and we can answer them if you can have that let me kind of cover the next section and then so the transportation fund where are we on that one I know there has been rules of conversation and communication around that very direct conversations around that tons of follow-up and so what you're looking at right now is a fairly um you know so I don't know if there are any questions or any comments on that but this is uh as of pride of last week and I don't know it's a definitely disappointment the numbers are much lower when we were expected yeah when you say direct message in the right or family direct messages directly yes to the families the writers

themselves uh I think there was um emails and then also personal interactions uh that happened reminding them of this uh I know there were a number of calls that the families made to find out more information about her and how many calls were there or Reach Out into a contract whichever above has the lowest amount of donations gets kicked out last night so this is where the video idea I came from at my house is my wife proposes that I'm making video giving an update on Transportation program from and just talk about the numbers and what it costs and where we're at and that if we can't improve the numbers we're at risk of cutting the program next year I think if people understand that there's a problem and if it's not solved that it

will go away then I think we will see a lot more action s I mean you can't do that because were the public schools don't charge so we can't just so we cannot charge yes absolutely absolutely I thought you were saying that you've been picking shoes that was my fault but is it I mean is there like how do you pick which which bus line and if you know can we favor a bus route based on the number of the percentage of donations that we receive thank you what we're trying to avoid that's objective yeah robust costs more to maintain than the other whether it has a longer room more stops then that would be an objective way I don't think you can um base it on the people or you know what money is

coming in and we have two I mean we have two that run I do not know the bus schedule but they're two that are on the south side and one on North Side so I mean logically it sounds like that side wouldn't be the one that lives I mean that's the objective way that won't give up once and around one Northern route from two buses to cut that's one of the cost and that but we're going to have a lottery that's gonna be significant well I mean I think the bottom line is whatever it is there's going to be tough decisions that need to be made and this is our age communication based on where we are now do we feel like it will be cooked before the end of the year no okay this

series settled it's whether we would do it with all the time but do we present it as truthfully I mean everything is better so we presented as if people can't step up and donate now and maintain that to default then we'll we'll make comfortable fundraising some sort of Outreach yes like for someone who did felt that recently that there's a specific Thunder is the purpose some of the kids still believe because they were really not understanding awareness tied to something else I mean uh we can I both those ideas are good right you want the video so certainly I can volunteer people for the video for that uh and I think for the booster done you know it could be a very uh you know direct message and in our town hall that should be

a topic that starts the conversation that this you know if our annual giving goals are falling behind our transportation fund is falling behind then the next logical thing is we have been a school that has lived within its mean it means that we have to cut out those things that cannot be funded and those are the in that order uh list all the things that can will be removed you know what has often worked uh in not so popular ways is expanding the class sizes how many people want to hear about we are expanding the class sizes because we cannot get the the funding in that will create a firestorm or some feedback uh but it will get people's attention do we have a list of things kind of like you know what would get

cut if we had to cut our budget or that's that's part of what we're going to discuss the budget planning meeting that's Supreme are there any things that are hot button items that might get you know people to put their money away their masses and what are the Strategic priorities that are like Untouchable yeah yeah like what it may I mean nobody does you know nobody wants increased crop sizes but what does it look like if we add two kids per grade you know um from you know the money that we get from the state or whatever I mean those are all ideas on the table uh that can be considered and should be considered because I think it's our responsibility to kind of at least have an honest dialogue a dialogue about that and

to as we were talking about that that you know if buses cannot be supported it's a big expense that we have been put in because of uh you know how the state you know came out with this directive of you know that these have to be done a different way than how it was originally built that but I do think we'll get more feedback if we start to name specific items that are going to get cut or changed you know right now it's arbitrary yeah tangible things yeah yeah yeah I mean this is an excellent example of the transportation program you have three buses and then we are going to reduce uh the our expensive footprint one of the buses will have to stop yeah and this is how it will you know roll out

and fall if that doesn't if the funding doesn't come up to what they expected uh expectations are yes but it is a small program I mean it's a it's a subset of that and you know I don't want to say that they are the same you know uh if there are two different programs that are being supported here and you know there's been a lot of communication in the last couple of months around that so anyway so this is obviously for our discussion and preparation for the town hall um so in March we will have like a budget due time in the finance committee um where we look at we're looking at the last five years of history and then we're going to look at priorities and projecting for the future and then I think

May is the board meeting we want to pass it so I think April will bring something to the board to review and discuss and then may will be the final version where we'll vote so I was trying to see where that fit in the time is yeah so that is foreign there's a separate document that I was not able to stand up in time for our meeting I'll send it out after the meeting but it is part of the the strategic planning discussion and the planning process in from the foundation and that would you know um potentially layout uh you know maybe a thought process for the board to kind of consider on these types of scenarios to kind of going back to your comment about you know what are those some specific things well

it's it's like a what-if scenarios like you know if you don't need our agency goal and we are 80 of the goal then how does it impact our uh next school year or if it's at you know sixty percent you know what would that mean for the programs that are um you know impacted because now we are kind of falling foreign thank you next topic on the agenda is the whole child committee update I will turn it down so kind of tracking two different things right now the staff Retreats which are hopefully going to happen Mondays in March um we looked at a bunch of different ideas have kind of for ease of Our Lives um have narrowed it down to three Topgolf spare time and Chef Alyssa's kitchen so we are um Lori is

going to the uh teachers K2 and some special teachers three three four and then five eight um and seeing each group gets to pick their own and then we'll organize that so um that is in the process of and then also working on the playground we actually had Scott Cunningham when Cunningham playgrounds or something out this morning and so we did get a budget increase um and because our expansion plans are on hold for now um we are not really worried about moving because we were considering installing it in a way that it could be moved easier so we're not about worried about moving we have more money but Scott came out today and actually um talked a little bit about keeping most of the existing playground um so the only the problematic elements on

the playground are the monkey bars and that little like twisty thingy um and so there's a way because he said there it's in really good shape it has 10 plus years left um and so we're gonna cut off the monkey bars and put a panel or some steps up or something like that and then build an entirely new playground and expand the footprint of the existing playground so um as he was talking about how we have 20 kids that all like clamor around that one piece and so we'll actually have two pieces that are very similar in size um and we can afford that um and so we would have two pieces and then like a low climbing rock wall um so and the the new piece will have some of those musical elements that

you see on the playgrounds and stuff so he's gonna in the next two weeks it's gonna work up um a design for us but it was really exciting to hear like let's keep our existing and make it bigger and better because just um our budget would really just allow for us to take down the existing and put up something almost identical in size and so it's like at what point like what are we really gaining from that um but he said I mean it's like he's like that is in fine shape he's like you have 10 years plus left on the equipment that you have so let's get rid of what doesn't work for you and then add to it um and then we won't really need to we'll have to patch so what they'll

do is they'll cut the posts right at the concrete um under the asphalt that's underneath all the squishy stuff and then just cap it off and then patch it and then add more versus digging everything up and replacing everything that you already have so um I was really happy with the meeting this morning um but like super excited about Playgrounds and so I think um hopefully over the summer we'll get a really nice upgrade just the expansion of the playground cut into the green space that's there no it will you know where that like um it's gonna come this way um towards the sidewalk so it's going to be about the same like kind of depth I guess you could say and then the width would just increase so where that like yellow thing where

apparently nobody throws the ball in anymore it will go in that area so it will not encroach on really any other playground or the picnic table areas or definitely not touch the soccer fields yep so it'll kind of take some reward I mean I'm not here during playground time but kind of some space that's not as used so we don't have to increase the footprint a ton because we are taking the monkey bars off so we'll take the monkey Butters off and then kind of go all the way to the sidewalk on this side so when you go to your car check it out and we pick new colors they'll be different colors they'll be like butterscotch and sky blue and yeah we had fun um like my only contribution yeah I'm sure about colors

though I never pick them anyway so um yeah that's it looking for an equally upbeat wow what kind of colors you got what kind of colors yeah I'm going to talk about our 990 tax filing hopefully not too much red um so the finance committee meant um perhaps last week we are proposing the finance committees proposing to approve our 990 which is our annual tax filing with the IRS you know we are tax exempt so we don't pay tax but we still have to file all that information with the IRS um it's 51 pages so Glory I sent it around to the board on Saturday I believe it was um so we have to approve so that we can have our account our CPA file it electronically with the IRS um it's been through the

ringer finance manager reviewed it I've reviewed it had a round or two of edits and we feel confident it's in good shape now even Heather looked at it anyone has compatible volunteers another CPA volunteer um and then we have another item to approve which is the auditor letter which is so it goes far as calling it a contract but um is the letter from our CPA for her annual services so she does our audit every year she's with our taxes um and she's just a good resource for us to call on ask question accounting questions too she is not affiliated with Acadia our accounting services provider who does payroll and all the monthly budget reports for the school this is independent auditor to review the financial statements that are produced by the account to make

sure that everything is it's good we've used her for three or four years now uh Rebecca Barr yeah 2020 I think was our first year with her so it's good practice every five to seven years or so to switch your auditors so they get different a new set of eyes to give an independent review so we're still within that window with her so we're recommending to approve hiring her again for next year it is the board's decision to hire the auditor um the previous um the 991 the board once it votes for it do they need to go through another um you know is that the filing of 990 is approved or that is the final version of 990 that we can then use uh to upload or you know a charity Navigator and all

those once we vote to approve it then we will file it with the IRS and then we can use that too it's important yeah can we do that because we did do the 990 posting but that was for the previous year that's right yeah it was so easy then we do we pass this one then we'll have two years so we can excellent however this is the school's 990 not the foundations um okay okay that's a good manager yes interested in yes that one's not prepared yet though um any question can we I don't know uh motion yes entertain a motion to approve the 990. that's fine any opposed the 990 tax forms but also maintain a motion to approve the audit newsletter to hire Rebecca Barr their CPA for next year any opposition the

them of understanding for Rebecca Farr as the auditor first one thank you guys um so the other stuff we talked about in the finance committee meeting uh we reviewed some compliance reporting that we have to submit to our bank as part of the documentation requirements for the outstanding Bond slash mortgage that we have um we looked at our CD portfolio and other Alternatives starting to place the money looking at different interest rates and what we can earn on those and Mike uh actually spearheaded some analysis yeah sure yeah what a track is very simple it's just a simple analysis of where our Surplus cash is invested or could be invested and the rate uh they are Bond projected to the end of the year based on the board readers so depending on your assumptions the

amount we paid on the bond is between two and two and a half percent more than the cash would you invest so that's a cost basically having that cash instead of paying off of about three thousand thirty five hundred a month the question is do we feel it's better to preserve the cash and no liquidity basically paying three thousand thirty five hundred dollars a month after that as opposed to you know paying out fund which is imperative use of the cash I think Adam and I feel what's happening with the expansion is probably more important to preserve Mobility at this point so our recommendation would be to um to keep the cash invested and not pay out the bottom so that's we can have a broader discussion about that now or later it's uh you

know again yeah things like uh it's a point-time decision it's not a you know forever decision it's Dynamic it can change in any given month but given how high interest rates have gotten lately they're warranted us looking into that the rate on our mortgage is floating rate so each month when rates go up the rate goes up I don't want the interest we pay on a mortgage goes up but the way we've been reinvesting our cash you know we're earning more interest on that as well but there's a spread we pay more interest than we earn so um we looked at how much word how much we couldn't save but paying a mortgage and we think it's better right now to hold on to the cash and see how things play out for the next

couple months before we make it because once you've been on the mortgage that's the permanent use of that cash right it's gone now you have Equity you're trading cash for equity right now would you rather have the cash foreign versus cash like why does cash win I mean when I talk about financing construction projects it's all through equity um you know is there we don't know this but is there a chance that the interest rates will start to come down and we could get a equity loan for construction either on this building or something else at a lower rate than what it's loading right now and I know that's like like mailing gel to a wall but like why cash versus Equity correct a potential construction project I I wouldn't I wouldn't phrase it as

we prefer cash over equity for potential Construction contract it's more of we prefer to have the cash right now for flexibility to do anything we want to do versus if we put it into Equity then we have to use debt to pull that Equity out to use it for anything good to borrow against it but you said you know quickly yeah about it choose to pay down the bond for making decisions is there a way that we can you know just think about my own mortgage Point um but can we pay a little bit more like is there a way to just put a little bit more use a little bit leverage a little bit of the cash and just be putting a little bit more on our monthly payment so that we're trying to

shave off that is an option there is we can pay down additional principle we have to give notice right I mean it's a documentary in the past we have done that we have paid down extra uh a second mortgage I think was paid ahead of the central uh for that for that reason uh but you know it's a good flexibility to have that you know now that we are not in a penalty stage or paying uh of the bond early just to kind of hold down in our back pocket I know you have to tell them 180 days before you're going to pay more for the mortgage it doesn't pay off or to pay additional there's some version in the middle not like I think the intention in our language is if you're going to

pay off the whole night the 180 days but like you said it wasn't clear and and our Banker told us something to the contrary so I'm not really sure what's the binding from initial put on what might be able to be done short term we can make a free visit that's in a couple months this is terrible at least make sense which called the air conditioning system or whatever basic things as well as like you're looking at 18 months [Music] accountability then maybe you can cash corporate influential appearing to them there's a chance right a guy would that have been just about cheers all right um the other thing we talked about is something we kind of already talked about on budget planning um so we'll be doing a deep dive next month to prepare

the budget plan to bring to the board and then we talked about AGC projections and transportation budgets which a day or any consensus um that's it meeting I think everybody got the invite for a March 14 8 A.M to 10 a.m strategic planning meeting that was a discussion that kind of prompted by the document you mentioned the strategic planning Foundation document was in a kind of a Kickstart into you know how do we prioritize what we're going to spend next year um and then we you know is that a governance meeting is that a finance meeting and then we decided it's really a joint effort in strategic planning so because those two teams make more than the Quorum um I think it's a special meeting and it's open but we'll have it during the day

um and if any of this team is going welcome to drawing back to our session which is really devoted on next year the finance committee meeting will be canceled that will be in the uh the day of the finance I did yeah it is today Friday is important it's definitely on board on track I'm staring at it thank you all right any other clinics any other yeah anything else that brings us to our second opportunity and our friends thank you okay that brings us to our second opportunity for Community comments subject to these same guidelines as listed in the agenda and that we shared earlier limited to three minutes if any of our community members would like to foreign [Music] there is one hand up the league was that from before or is that a

fresh raised hands can I even talk I'll put a timer on can you I believe okay feel free to start thank you thank you much I just wanted a really quick reminder that the foundation trustees that as part of their bylaws the there needs to be a majority uh trustee membership from the uh Scholars school board just as a reminder as part of the recruitment process of course uh in addition to that by law requirement there's uh the requirement that the trustee excuse me the treasurer uh be the same individual for both organizations just as a uh as part of that recruitment conversation um and then I did want to share that I recall from a few years back that the uh the lobbying organization uh the North Carolina um Charter School um or organization

that was discussed earlier I remembered that there was that there was some discussion from a few years back about uh their lobbying team and that they're lobbying uh Team uh did not have uh political representation from both parties on it and that that that was some of the concern uh in regards to uh not becoming uh members of the organization um so I don't know if you if that has changed since then but um I know that that was one of the concerns which which led to not joining the organization at that point thank you Millie certainly have a good afternoon oh my God wait a moment and see if anyone else wants to participate okay I believe that brings us to our final item which is entertaining and motion to adjourn meeting thank you

second thank you all those in favor thank you all for your participation
