006then our fan and core students will finish up with a number at the end. So I would like to welcome everyone here tonight. Welcome, superintendent Perez, central office, parents, guardians, our students, and our teachers who are here to um recognize tonight for as well. So, welcome everyone. Um, as everyone knows, um, it takes a village to do what we do here. So, thank you to everyone, um, from our board of education to our custodial staff, cafeteria staff, PTO, parents, community members. We couldn't do it without your support. So, thank you. Um, tonight we're going to talk a little bit about Lloyd Road and some of the highlights that we have here at Lloyd Road for this year. This is our new Lloyd Road flag. This was designed last year by one of our students as

007part of our flag design contest. Um, we're going to get a new flag for our flag poll. It was out there winning in the win out this summer. Um, and we are ready for a new one. So, you'll see our new flag up there pretty soon. Um, but this design was picked with each of our three lower elementaryaries filtering in here to Lloyd Road and each of the mascots displayed. know our new Lloyd Road flag that we're proud of. A little bit about Lloyd Road. Um so where we are at, we're at we have 515 students as of today here at Lloyd Road, a breakdown of our um special ed and as well as our English learners. Um and we are very fortunate to have a diverse student population. Um and you can see that

008both by our demographic breakdown as well as the home language that are spoken by our students. So very fortunate to have um a very rich culture here at Road. Um so for this year um we had uh four goals focused on growth and achievement um social emotional learning, restorative practices, language arts and math and the implementation of a new win period. Um our district vision and mission and you can see um tonight our goal is also that all of our students will be um successful and valuable contributing members of society. Um and our mission here as a district and schools to foster safe and equitable learning environment that celebrates the diverse um learners that we have here at Lake. So some about our programs and initiatives and I'm not going to read from each slide

009but I'll share this out. This will be on our website. A lot of new things this year. Um some new highlights as well as some continuation of programs that we started last year and some that were started two years ago. So I'm going to just highlight some of those tonight. Um we have a new master schedule this year. So we shifted from a departmentalized model to a unified classroom approach where our teachers are teaching all subjects similar to the K to3 model. Um and then this was um based on input last year with a lot of planning. Um and the goal was to provide a 40minut win period that we could provide students with both enrichment in and intervention um without pulling them necessarily during lunch or recess built into the schedule. We also wanted

010to make sure that with a new wind period that we weren't pulling students from core academic subjects for intervention or enrichment. We wanted it to be supplemental. So this new 40-minute block is first period every day and it's outside of their regular language arts or math block. Um so this is called a win period. You've heard about this. What I need um it's flexible period in the day first period each day and it could be um varies with that whole group and small group instruction. Um it's uh pull out as well as push in um small group enrichment. We have morning meetings, our class circles. It's an opportunity throughout the month of September for teachers to build rapport to get to know their students. So the month of September was really spent on um getting

011to know one another, team building activities, um strengthening social skills, time management, organization, and learning styles. Um so this is a graphic um that actually Mr. De Rosa put together that really illustrates and captures the essence of this period model here at Lloyd Road and once again looks at both intervention and enrichment. Um you can see here looking at our win periods um and our lunch periods as well as after school and win support. So if you look at that tier three, that's really your enrichment offered to students um in ELA, humanities, as well as our art and music enrichment students. That's that tier three. We have tier two um which is offered to students who demonstrated a passion or an interest in subject areas. And then tier one, which we'll talk about tonight, which

012is enrichment for all. So we want to make sure that we're really getting all students, those that have a unique passion or talent, um as well as those that don't know they have it yet. We want to expose them to it. Um so we have intervention and enrichment um identified students who receive um intervention or enrichment during that win period. We offer music and art enrichment in addition um to offering for the humanities as well as um steam. So that will take place. We use multiple measures um using marking period grade. We use our I Ready diagnostic as a key indicator. We give that diagnostic three times a year. that's broken down by substrand and you'll see that in the subsequent slide of how we identify students for support. Um and then we use multiple

013measures. The KOAT which is a cognitive abilities test looks at verbal and non-verbal. Um the torance test of creativity which is an assessment that we look at for music and art enrichment as well as marker degrees. Um some tier one intervention um looking at reading and math. So that tier one is really looking at students who need support. So those um supports going to be students that are two or more grade levels below. Um and those students u receive win intervention from another home room teacher. So the model that we have this year is that home room teachers are each specializing in a particular area. So for example in reading we have teachers that are focusing just on phones just on vocabulary, high frequency words, comprehension and break comprehension down by literature as well as

014information. And then those students that need support based on the I already go to those teachers a certain number of days per week for that support. And then for math we break it down further do numbered operations measurement and data algebra and algebraic thinking and then geometry as well. So we'll be giving our second diagnostic in January and we'll be looking to rework some of these groups with the goal of giving students the support for enrichment that they need. So tier three is our art, music, humanities and steam. So identified students will receive pull out enrichment in art, music, humanities, and or steam during that first period when students will work with an art and music teacher to deepen and expand learning opportunities with the goal of really letting students express themselves. Um, and they

015develop problem solving skills. They get to work with students who are not in their class. And they get to tap in on talent that sometimes they don't um aren't aware exist yet. Um, tier two um is lunch and recess. So, as part of our school's model, we'll have time during lunch and recess for students that um have a passion and they wish sometimes our students um look to maybe get out of the cafeteria or out of recess and they prefer to do something in a smaller group focused on art or music. Um and this will provide them with that opportunity. Um we have dynamic teachers here. Um you can see here Mr. Leavine, one of our uh music teachers um and Mrs. Hughes. So, we really are very fortunate. We're able to maximize their expertise

016to support our students. Um and then tier one enrichment for all. So this year as part of that win period all students get exposure to enrichment for all. So that includes physical education um focused on team building trust building rapport while also focusing on gross motor skills music. Um Mr. Lavine um took the music songs from Hamilton and is teaching students how to memorize their multiplication tables using um song and and sound um which is pretty crafty. Mrs. uh currently our art teachers teaching students the art of cursive writing um which is an important skill that students um still need to have and then band and Mrs. Hughes is doing some great things in band allowing for band enrichment as well as some smaller group um band lessons. So that winter is giving us a

017lot of flexibility to really meet the needs of our students. So we're very fortunate instrumental music lessons and we get to see some of our performers. Grade four students take lessons and then our grade five students perform in the spring concert. Um all students um get demonstrations in September and then lessons start without instruments and then eventually we'll be able to practice with instruments. We have a new elective this year. It's a steam elective taught by our uh one of our teachers, Mrs. Dawson. Um and this really focuses on project based learning around science, technology, engineering. The arts are once again integrated as well as mathematics. Um and this is part of their weekly specialty. So, just how they sp Spanish Spanish and um gym and music, they also have steam as part of this

018new elective. The standards they're learning in steam align with the grade level standards and they use a project based approach. Um and then steam replaces last year's community intervention which was every other week. So, they weren't getting as frequently as they needed it um or as regularly. So, this with the new period were able to replace that what I need period with. Um, we also have a new attendance incentive program this year, um, as a number of schools do. So, each month the class, uh, at each grade level with the highest attendance gets a Husky Paw. That Husky Paw goes into the, uh, Husky P, uh, bin in the main office. They go up on our bulletin board that you'll see across from the art room, and at the end of the month, the classes

019that have the best pendants get an extra recess period. So, um, we're happy to, um, see our students in school. We want our students in school each day on time when they are well. Um, and our districtwide logo is there as well. So, you can check out our bulletin board that's in front of the school. The students enjoy bringing down if they're the chosen rep for their class, their plus rep to show that they have perfect attendance for that day. So, really get students motivated and understand the importance of being in school each day. We also have a new peer mediation program. Um, we are finishing up training right now. It's a studentled process that resolves conflict. So, students are trained by our counselors how to resolve conflict among their peers. Um it's similar in

020some ways to a safety patrol but there uh training is on a different level. These students will be trained in how to foster students to come together to use I statements to say when you did this I feel this way. When you said this to me I feel this. Um so really getting students to understand how their words and actions impact others. Um which is a skill and it takes time and training. Um and why it matters. It reduces classroom disruptions. It teaches conflict resolution. That's an important life skill. It promotes empathy and respect and other life skills. Um, and how it works is a conflict may happen. Students request a peer mediation. The trained mediators go through their conversation guide and then together they would work with the students to resolve conflict all under

021the the guise and support of our counselors. So, we're happy to get that underway once our training is complete. Um, we are also happy to continue. This will be our third annual schoolwide spelling be. So students took home their spelling be study list. We were going to have on January 6, that Tuesday, our classrooms in fourth and fifth grade will take a classroom spelling bee based on the list that went home. And then the winner of each home room will get added to a Google doc and we'll have a fourth grade spelling bee on the stage. Then we'll have a fifth grade spelling bee on the stage. And then we will have a spelling bee off for our fourth and our fifth grade winner to identify an overall school winner. And that winner will have

022the opportunity to go to the regional be which is an online B through scripts. And then the winner of the of the winners of the regional have the opportunity to go to the national skeleton be in Washington DC. So excited to continue that a fun event. Um and once again for students that just enjoy it. Um it's not something that students require to but we do want to encourage them to participate. Um and then we have therapy dogs returning to Mory Road again this year. It's been a successful program. Um, some of the benefits of having therapy dog program you'll see are noted up there. Um, and the students really just enjoy having friends come into the room. They're able to go into the back of the room, read to one of the dogs. They're

023able to And this year we formalized it where they got to learn about the dog handler and the breed of the dog and how to care for a certain breed and what breeds require more care or less care. We have a hairless dog coming in. We have all kinds of interesting animals. Um, but the students really enjoy it and once again the goal is really to promote understanding, empathy, caring for others. Um, and it really does reduce stress and anxiety. So, it helps the students and the staff. Um, so we're fortunate to have that. And then our Lloyd Road Cafe, we had our grand opening this year. This is our um, at least our third uh, time of our Lloyd Road Cafe. Um, and Miss Leonard, one of our Lloyd Road teachers here tonight, really

024um, spearhead program. because we're very fortunate. Um, and this honor is being recognized later tonight for tenure. Um, but the staff um are able to place an order for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, blueberry muffins, yogurt with granola. Um, some other things are added to the menu. The students prepare everything in the classroom. They put together the orders. They count the money. Um, and our students in our multiple disabilities, our autism class are really responsible for taking the reigns on this with the support of the teachers. They have a delivery coffee cart. They go around, they deliver the orders to the staff members in the main office. And on Fridays, we get to have a nice hot beverage and breakfast um delivered by our staff. And you can see they're very proud when they come around

025to deliver the order. We get frequent customer cards and we get a stamp. I think we get a free hot chocolate after we purchase five hot chocolate. So, some good incentives as well and a great way to promote authentic life skills. Just some more pictures. You can see them there. Those are some of our students in Mrs. Sloan's class. They're getting they're looking through the folders. They're seeing who's placed an order. They're placing those folders inside the teacher's mailbox and then they get those folders ready for the following. And then we have school beautifification. Our our teacher, Mrs. Bernie, you'll see throughout our building. Um we have our windows decorated for each season. Um and we're very fortunate. We want to keep our school clean, neat, and beautiful. We have murals that you'll see as

026you go around our school. all that were done by some of our art enrichment students as well as our art teacher Mrs. Bernie and some of the projects that they're doing in art enrichment as well. And then we have our Lloyd Road after school clubs that have kicked off this year. Chess club, board games club, art club, pure buddy, student council, forest club, indoor sports club and folks club just to name a few and art club. There are some of our students enjoying making dream catchers in art club. Um, in this September, two years ago, we had a grant from the Madawan Ed Foundation that we are continuing. So, this year, Mr. Carnowski, u, Mrs. Carnowski is here tonight and Mr. Donovan, one of our, uh, PE teachers, work together to do team building. So,

027fourth graders, as you saw from our flag, they come together from the three lower elementary schools. So, it's important that we invest time in getting students to know one another. So, they go into the gym and they do activities together paired with another class. So they get to know students that are not in their class but also how to work together. Teamwork, taking turns, problem solving, all embedded through these activities that they do that are also fun and engaging. That one on the bottom left, they have to um follow a certain grid using clues that are given by that person. They have to work together to get to the end of that path. So some neat activities that they do in team building. This year we're going to be title one. Um, so we are

028schoolwide title one and we will be getting additional federal funding for being designated a title one school. Um, schoolwide title one means you can use it for all students and it's to really to allow us to develop a comprehensive plan and provide additional support and resources for our school. So some of the things that we're going to be doing with title one is we're going to get that planetarian guy over and he's going to be doing some fun things with our students. They're going to learn about solar systems and galaxies. Thank you Rosa for really spearheading our title one um program and getting um these in line. Um so Planetarium D will be coming out setting up a huge inflatable planetarium in the gym and students will get to experience what the sky is like

029not only the night sky but he's going to tailor it to Madawan and Aberdine. So they get to know the night sky specific to where they live here which would be pretty neat. Um and that will align with our science curriculum and standards. um read theory online, a new subscription for read theory. Once again, it goes back to providing resources and support that students um whether you're enriching what they're doing or providing intervention support. Superstaff Science Magazine and Story Work. So, we're fortunate to have that additional funding. We have counselors that we are fortunate here. We have two full-time counselors as well as a part-time counselor. Miss Bean is our grade four counselor. Mrs. Tay is our grade five counselor and Miss Gachi is with us two days a week. And we share Miss Gachi

030with Liquid. So we're very fortunate to have that support and through that support we're able to do monthly character education lessons, small group counseling, individual counseling, lunch bunch groups, counselor student cafeteria connection, our mentor program, bullying intervention and conflict resolution. Um this year uh we were able to partner with the New Jersey center for Tourett syndrome um to bring in a presentation for our students to understand the symptoms um of Tourette's syndrome and associated disorders OCD, ADHD um recognition of the ways Tourette's and associated disord disorders can affect um academic performance and strategies and accommodations for the students. So um we started this with our peer buddies that are part of our peer buddy program. some of our general education students working with some of our students um with special needs. Um and then we'll

031look to continue this as we look to um implement diverse learners day this spring. So, but our students enjoyed this and learned a lot. Um and this was brought to us by um uh Miss Leo from the New Jersey Center for Tourette's Syndrome and Associated Disorders who came in this presentation for us. Um we also offer YMTA counseling. So, every Thursday we have a Y counselor here at Lloyd Road. So students in need of counseling support have that opportunity. Should any parents wish you reach out to your counselor and we can put your student in touch with a counselor whether it's our counselor or through the YMCA. And then we have a number of recognition programs each Friday. Excuse me. We have our coffee and kind program. So students get tickets every day. Every staff

032member has raffle tickets. If they're coffee and kind throughout the day, they get a raffle ticket. They put their name on it. They put their teacher's name on it. Goes to a jar in the main office. Every Friday we do a raffle for kindness ticket winners and we have two big treasure chests full of prizes that we bring out. They can get their name pulled out. Some of them are savvy. They save up their tickets and they say, you know, we'll wait till the end of the month, increase my odds and dump a whole, you know, bucket hole in there. Whatever works, but they all get recognized and we ask them to please keep spreading kindness. We call them our kindness crew. Um, and it's really a great program that recognizes students that are performing

033random acts of kindness. Um, and we have other student recognition, student like characterization quotes, being kind, student of the month, good news postcards. Um, these are some of our students of the month from last year. These are some of our students of the month from this year. So, they get a certificate, they get a student of the month um medal, they get a student of the month cup, they get a bumper sticker, um, they get a pencil and a few other prizes. They come down to the lobby, we take their picture, and then we announce their names on the loudspeaker. The teachers recognized them each month based on certain character traits. So in the month of September, students of the month were recognized for demonstrating responsibility. October, we moved into respect. November, growth mindset, December,

034compassion, and you can see the rest of the character traits. Their names then go up on the boards throughout the school. Um, and then we also have our counselor thought program. So students of the month, we have kindness tickets and then we have our counselor thought program. Our talented art teacher, Mrs. Gurnie, does caricatures of students. She worked at Great Adventure in her uh prior career and now we are fortunate to capitalize on her expertise and she does car pictures of our students who work being brave or being helpful or being honest or uh let's see, responsible, going above and beyond. So, it could be anything. It doesn't have to be kindness. Um and then we also recognize our staff. So, some of our staff get their caricature up on the wall. Um, and it's

035just a nice way to really kind of celebrate everyone in our school. Um, and then our staff recognition. We do staff shoutouts on Fridays to um support our staff. We do random kindness. We do our staff birthday announcements. We do our birthday announcements for students every morning on the loudspeaker as well. Um, we do holiday staff lunchins. We have a cookie swap coming up. We have staff wellness opportunities. We partner with local businesses. they'll come in um give wellness checks sometimes a chair massage um once again it's just about taking care of yourself and taking some time for self-care which is important for everyone um having fun is also a big part so battle with the faculties this year um was a great event nice turnout and once again another way for everyone to come

036together um in an atmosphere outside of school so a lot of fun there PD back to school night our title one annual parent meeting ESL family night I'm going to talk about our new partnership that we have with NJ4s, preferred behavioral health. Um we have parent teacher conferences coming up in a couple weeks and then screeners coming as well. So we've done topics for parents this year. We focus um on back to school. We did two different sessions on relationship skills, social skills, mental health, sorry, time management, organization and uh study skills. And then these are brought into the classroom. So the same parent workshops we offer to the parents, we offer to our students. So this year we have a partnership with NJ4s. Twice a month they come out at no charge and they

037work with our students aligned with our character traits. So this month they're doing cyber bullying and social media. How to make sure you're staying safe online. How to get out of group chats that you don't want to be in. How to make sure that you know who you're talking to if you're part of a gaming group or part of an online chat. Um and then we'll move into time management organization. They're going to talk about relationship skills. So a lot of important topics coming up. We're very fortunate to have an incredible and supportive PTO. This is our PTO members. Um, a huge thanks. This is just a few of the things they've done so far. Chocolate bar fundraiser, mom sales, cake drives, they did a thankful staff lunch for our staff, teacher raffles, we had

038our fall harvest, we had our winter chill last week, plant sales, support for families in need, and more and more and more. So, we're very fortunate. And then a thanks to last year's PTO because they met their fundraising goal just shy of $20,000 to put up a new playground shade structure. So we look forward to having our shade structure installed um once the weather is warmer and the ground is able to be um dug up and then we'll have a ribbon cutting from that. So stay tuned for our shade structure ribbon cutting and thank you to last year's PTO. A lot of hard work went into that. Um, and it was a lot of fundraising, a lot of effort, and our students will benefit from that. So, that will go on the playground here at

039the end given our playground more usage throughout the year. And we also have a number of special programs. We partnered with the community. We've had the Aberine Fire um company come out. They showed students all about the fire trucks. They got to see the ladder go up. They got to learn about all the gear the fire wear. They got to ask questions, explore the fire truck, and most importantly, learn about fire safety, what to do in the event of a fire. Um, who to call, when to call, what to do if no one's home, um, what to do to see a fire. Um, so important safety tips. The Aberdine first aid squad was out. They did a demonstration for our students. They got to go in some of the wheelchairs. They got to see what

040it was like to be um, put in one of the carriers, an emergency situation. um they got to explore the first aid squad ambulance and really got to learn about what um what to do if someone should get hurt, what to do in emergency. It also builds connections and relationships with our community partners. Um we had Mr. Daniels, Mr. D and Friends come out. This was part of our partnership. So Mr. Dennis Daniels came out and as part of this day, it's called Mr. D's um and friends and it was all about respect. So how we demonstrate respect for each other, how we demonstrate respect for ourselves, for our country. They did different activities that involve musical instruments. Um, all focused on the week of respect. So that was done in October as part of

041the week of respect. Um, and then we also have the Mon County Sheriff's Office come out. They do dangers of strangers. They do bike and home and safety and they do bullying and cyber bullying as well. So we're very fortunate to have the M County Sheriff's come out and we have the same uh folks from the sheriff's office come out each time so they know our school and our students. And then we have Halloween parades and all that fun. Our PTO winter chill that took place last week um right here in our gym. Got hot chocolate, games, prizes, a lot of fun for the kids. Um they were happy just running around and um just being able to do what they wanted to do within the confines of the school. So it was a fun

042night and that's about it for the road. So we're going to finish off this presentation. Thank you very much board. And at this time we're going to wrap up. So we'll do a number from our course with Miss Deline and then we'll wrap up with a number from Hughes and then we'll go on to our tenure. Yes. Happy fairy tale. He's made us children. There must have been some magic in that magic bell. For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around and children say he can laugh and play and sing. Look at over the hills of snow. We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Good tidings we bring to you and your kid. Good

043tidings for Christmas and a happy new year. We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas. >> Thank you, Mr. Thank you for ch students. And I'll turn it over at this time to Mrs. Hughes for a final number. Heat. Heat. One more round of applause for all of our students and this room. Thank you so much. That was great cuz this is one of our favorite things to do is really see the kids in their element and enjoy the festivities. >> Thank you. Good evening. So this is a a very special opportunity to recognize our staff members. So staff members earn tenure earned is extremely important. So early tenure uh as an educator you have to research standards that is to go from a provisional certificate to a standard certificate you

044have to qualifications that you have to obser this point we're going to recognize staff that tenure we're going to have our principles recognize staff members that were able to come this this evening and those who couldn't couldn't make it. So, our building principles were going to follow up and presenting to the staff members start with high school. Mr. Well, >> good evening everyone. Our first up this evening is Natalie Torres. Miss Torres Rivera is a valuable member of our world language department. She also serves as our world language honor society um advisor. She completed uh her first two years of school in the University of Puerto Rico before earning her bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from Georgia Southern University. The story's Rivera is driven by great passion for student development, a philosophy inspired by

045her own influential high school teacher who emphasized getting to know students individually. She lives by the belief the greatest act of love is giving your time because it's a piece of your life that will never hold back. Now, side note, Miss Quattroi has the greatest job in the history. She gets to work with me every day. Actually, I get to work with her. So, she keeps me very organized. So, thank you for that, Miss Janice. She is the principal secretary and a former educator. She graduated from Brooklyn College and shared that her favorite teacher, Mr. Beasty, was the reason she went into teaching. She recalls that Mr. Beast

049truly cared about her students and uh and always encouraged us to do our best and never be afraid to fail. When asked about her greatest motivation, Janice explained, "I truly enjoy my job." Now, she wrote this, not me. I truly enjoy my job at Madawan Regional High School and that is due to having the opportunity to work with the most amazing team of administrators and staff members. We all worked together as a team and always had each other's back. I look forward to coming to work every day. When she is not at the high school, Janice loves spending time with her daughter and son-in-law who live in San Diego. She also has a passion for traveling with Italy being her favorite place to visit and her favorite food naturally is pizza. Her personal motto is

050take one day at a time. She does that. And finally, Miss Carwall. Miss Carwall, COME ON. THIS IS LIKE BITTERSWEET FOR ME. MISS CARL Ball is technically my assistant principal, but she's serving uh in the acting role as ravine drive principal and she's doing a wonderful job. Although she has missed the high school, so if you ever change your mind, you know, you're welcome back. Okay. Um Miss Carbal is a dedicated educator who earned her degree from University of Texas at El Paso. It's where she grew up. Uh she came she joined us in 2019 at the high school from Las Vegas. She moved all the way out here to work with us. That's not true. Uh she began her administrative uh princip as an administrative assistant principal at the high school in 2019 before

051being appointed acting principal ravine drive this year. Her greatest motivations lie in forging strong connections by working closely with students, staff and families. Outside of her commitment to being the best principal she can be, Miss Caraval cherishes spending quality time with her family, building puzzles, visiting zoos, and savoring her favorite dish, green. She credits her that decision to pursue an education pathway to her college chemistry teacher who made the content engaging and fun. Miss Carpal's philosophy is captured in the words she lives by. Embrace change and remember to smile. So, congratulations. Thank you, Mr. Sure. Thanks. Thank you everybody. Okay. All right. We're going to go with this order. All right. Tonight, I have the pleasure of honoring three outstanding team members at MAMS. First up is school counselor at MAMS. She's a seventh grade

052counselor. She attended Kane University for her bachelor's degree and Edinburghough University for a master's in art in school counseling. When asked about her greatest motivation, she shared, "My greatest motivation comes from my students. As a school counselor, I'm inspired every day by their resilience and growth. Knowing I can support them, whether through challenges, big decisions, or small victories, drives me to show up with empathy and purpose. They are the reason I love what I do." When she isn't working hard for the students at MAMS, she enjoys her two favorite hobbies, which are spending time with friends and family, especially her four nieces and nephews and nephew and cooking. Her favorite place to visit is Europe, and she enjoys Italian food. When asked to describe her favorite teacher, she said, "My favorite teacher was Mrs. Jennifer

053Smith, but she was my favorite because she truly believed in her students and showed unwavering support and empathy. She made every student feel seen, valued, and capable. And her impact has stayed with me ever since. Some words to live by from Miss Brigy are in a world where you can be anything. CONGRATULATIONS. Next up, we have Mr. Bloodwick. Mrs. Lewig is a music teacher at MAMS. Caleb had attended for her undergrad degree Mason Grove School of Arts at Ruckers University. And for her graduate degree, she attended Teachers College at Columbia. When asked about her greatest motivation, she shared, "My greatest motivation, while cliche, are my students. They are inspiring for so many reasons, but in my role, hearing the little and large voices every day reminds me to give them the most I can in

054return. When she isn't working closely with students, she enjoys hanging out with her wonderful husband, Adam, and their dogs, Azie and Bear. In addition, she loves to travel the world with her family, particularly London, England. And her favorite food to eat, I've never seen this before, is potatoes of any kind. >> That's unique. That's true. All right. When asked to share her favorite teacher of all time, she responded, "My favorite teacher is Mr. Andre Seren, choir director at Malawan Regional High School. First he was my teacher. Now he is my colleague, but he has always been a great friend. He motivated me to take a step to go to school for music even though I was uncertain as an 18-year-old. He has given me the confidence to work alongside some of the best in the

055field. Words that Miss Lewig lives by. Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got. And our final outstanding final outstanding team member at NAS is Dr. Lonardo. Dr. Christy Gillonardo is a math and special education teacher at Mass. Dr. Lonardo of her master's degree at Georgian Court University and her doctorate at Mammoth University. When asked to share her greatest m greatest motivation to teach, she explained, "My greatest motivation as a teacher comes from watching my students grow in confidence and deepening their understanding of me. Knowing I can help my students overcome challenges and flourish keeps me passionate about my teaching pay. When she's not teaching, Dr. Donardo enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, traveling to the Caribbean, and enjoying her favorite dish, which is past. Her favorite teacher of all times, of all time,

056is Manny's very own, Mr. Terasi. I can say I know she is a great teacher because just last week I asked her how to use a Mac for the first time. I felt very old. She helped me out. She did a great job. So, congratulations Thank you. Dr. At this time, I'd like to welcome >> Miss Leonard Leonard. >> Mrs. Leonard attended King University and is a dedicated and passionate educator who consistently goes above and beyond for her students. and that means anything, whether it's getting on the bus to make sure that they're getting home okay or riding the bus. Truly, whatever it takes. She describes her greatest motivation to be her family and her co-workers who have become family along the way. There are many constant sources of strength and encouragement. One is knowing

057that she gets to walk into a workplace each day surrounded by people who truly care for one another, who lift each other up during challenging moments, and celebrate each other's successes. Being surrounded by that kind of love and encouragement reminds Keelin of why she loves what she does and pushes her each day to give her very best. Miss Leonard's favorite hobbies are being outdoors, following sports, listening to country music, and spending quality time with her family and friends. Her favorite place to vacation is the Outer Banks as it holds a very special place in her heart. She's been visiting there as a family tradition. um and her and her family come together there for a week to create new memories that she truly cherishes. When asked about her favorite teacher, Miss Leonard stated that her

058favorite teacher was her third grade teacher, Miss Patterson, as she had a profound impact on Keelin's life and played a major role in inspiring her to become a teacher. Miss Leonard shared that Miss Mrs. Patterson believed in her even on the days when she struggled to believe in herself. Mrs. Patterson encouraged and reminded Miss Leonard of her potential even when she couldn't see it herself. These are the qualities that make Miss Leonard an incredible educator and she now strives to reflect this in her own classroom when she continues to shape in the way she supports and uplifts her students every single day. Congratulations Is this going like to call up Miss Megan Cres? PRESIDENT. I had the opportunity to work with Miss President for several years prior to coming into my current role and I

059can certainly attest to her dedication and support that she provides her students. We are very lucky to have you at Strathmore. So, Miss Krescick is currently our K1 language and learning disabilities teacher at Strathmore Elementary School. Megan attended the College of New Jersey where she studied elementary education. Her greatest motivation includes showing up daily for her students and being a great teammate and might I say leader with her instructional staff. When she isn't working hard in the classroom, Megan enjoys traveling to Long Beach Island, reading and eating delicious pasta. Her favorite teacher of all time was her third grade teacher, Mrs. A, who encouraged students to find their own joys and passions. I would also like to add that just last week we recognized Megan as Strathmore's educator of the year. >> Thank you. We

060have Miss Char and Dr. heard from. Where are you? So, Rick is our director of facilities. He started here as our assistant and then quickly moved into the role. He graduated from Kings College. He's always been a Jersey boy. Uh we hope he stays here as long or as as long as he's been married to his beautiful wife for over 20 plus years with four girls. They always make sure to take a wonderful trip to Salem every year or like to hear back. He never passes the night for darts. As much as we always hope that uh somehow, you know, he won't be able to do snow and we'll get a nice snow day, he always figures out how to make sure that our buildings are cleared and we're open. Uh there's not any project

061that he cannot conquer. He definitely takes the time to foster relationships with the vendors that we have and he also takes the time to foster his staff so that we learn more and more about these buildings and what we can do. I don't think there's any project that you can't work with any kind of contractor to get it done and we thoroughly appreciate that because these huge savings that we have get to go back into the classroom. So, we can't thank you enough for all the time and attention you take for our buildings and we always know that we pretty much find you here more than anywhere else. Very thankful for that. So, we have one administrator sent from central office that I think he thinks we forgot that he's receiving 10 and that's Mr.

062If you didn't submit a picture, I just asked if you didn't submit a picture and Rick Carlson. So, I can believe, you know, my work didn't because he was very busy shoveling and doing a lot of things over the last few days. Um, but we'll we'll get a picture of Mr. Leeman that another time. But, um, Mr. Leeman started here as director of personnel. Um and then um when I was named um superintendent, he gladly accepted the position as assistant superintendent. Um so for me um he's that guy that's like very calm. And then one day I saw him and I realized he was bright red. He was actually angry, but his voice was still calm. I think the word was laughing. And it was like the most funniest uh one of the funniest moments

063I had with Mike. Um, and I share that because um, he's just chill. Um, and he has a he can sell anything to us and we're like, "What?" But I had to transfer that staff member and we get it done and you always always help me and the rest of the team um, in terms of whether it's with personnel, um, staff, community members, um, you're always there and I appreciate that. Um he too graduated from King's College. Um and he met his wives there for and they're married almost 30 years. Um two of his children are going to King's College as well. One is graduating. Um so we're excited um for him and his daughter will soon be after that. And then there's um Grace who's has the house altered herself. So I think a

064lot of a lot of us can you know um we know how that is. So um but again beautiful family and I appreciate um you spending the time and dedicating your time in um to not just us but most importantly nurses want to add this for us that um Mr. Miss has been invaluable in just really digging into things like data, numbers, information, conveying that to us in a way that we can understand so we can digest and make sure we're making the right decisions. He is um very calming presence, gives us all the information we need. So we on behalf of the board, we appreciate your help. >> Sorry, I don't I don't Can you answer? I don't really have a voice, but um Mr. Leven reminded me that um eight years eight years

065>> or 12 12 first. >> Okay, so 12 years ago I met him when we went to scope out um Dr. Micah as a superintendent of Pleasant and Mr. who showed us around and took us to classrooms and met people that told us, "Please don't take Jay." Um, and so I met him 12 years ago. He was working with Dr. Rea and and he said two and a half years after that he came here. So, um, I've known um, Mr. Le for a very long time and and again he is he is one of the best. He's patient, calm. Sometimes you want to see him get riled up and he never does. Um, but when he does turn right, we know he's upset, but it's very rare. Um, and people yell at him and he

066still smiles and he's good with it all. Um, but thank you so much for all your time, energy, um, dedication and we're thankful that Dr. brought you here. Um, sorry, but yeah. Thank you so much. I just wanted to congratulate every all the everyone that received tenure um for you matteron and coming here every day um doing what you do in the classroom. We appreciate that and you are you're the heartbeat of of our schools. So, thank you very much and congratulations to everyone. on behalf of the board. We appreciate your uh purposes and congratulations. Um moving on to the board president. So first I would like to take a minute to acknowledge and um kind of celebrate your second night of night. Um, tonight and then I also want to recognize and thank Vice

067President Tara Martinez. Martinez has um I want to thank her for her remarkable service to our district. She first won election in 2012 and for more than a decade she has poured her heart, her time and her unwavering energy and she survived this. I remember meeting um Miss Martinez first time ever at Clifford school. Um she was on PTO and even then her passion for children and community was unmistakable. Today Harmon had the privilege of serving alongside her. That passion is even clearer. Tara has been a steady, committed presence through our district's greatest wins and its toughest challenges. No matter the moment, she has shown up with grit, thoughtfulness, and a deep belief in doing what's right for all students. She asks the hard questions. She gives more hours than anyone ever sees. And she

068always grounds the conversation on what matters most. How does this benefit kids? Tara, >> thank you for your dedication, your heart, and your years of childless service. Our schools and our students are better because of you. We will miss you, but we know that we will always have your support. And of course, we know that you will continue to volunteer to serve the school community in whatever capacity that may be. Thank you very much. Oh, so um Tara um we worked together we've worked together for the past six years and um I've really enjoyed that great your knowledge, your passion and your sense of humor. um your commitment and dedication to the students and staff has been really amazing to watch. Your uh guidance over the past six years and your perspective has helped me

069a lot and I really value that. Um you're always willing to give your time and that's really been inspiring to watch. You dedicate your time to not just board committees, board trainings. Um you sign up for everything committees, you know, you're always willing to lend a helping hand. um community efforts, Thanksgiving drive, you were packing up food and delivering it to houses. Um same with during COVID, you were making food deliveries. Um holiday drive, we're always willing to give your all for putting the students first, but also to the staff as well. Um so I am greatly going to miss you. Um and I just want to say thank you for all you've done. I just wanted to say a few words. I've been on both sides. I remember being a parent in the audience

070when you were on the board long before I was up here and your commitment to this community is probable when you're out there, but I've been able to see it so much here, too. um your steadfast commitment to students is on such a deep level. Every single question you ask comes from is this what's best for students? No matter what the issue is, you always bring it back to that. And I just wanted to tell you as a newer board member, it has meant so much. You brought so much to my understanding. You've asked questions that have helped me see things differently. And I just we are such a better school district because of the questions you asked and the commitment you've made and the time you've put in. So, thank you so much and

071I look forward to running into a chopper. >> It's good for kids. >> Yes. Tara was on the board when I was hired as director of special ed. And one thing that um and everyone shared this um here with their experiences with Tara is what is is it right for kids is always the question that you ask. Is that in the best interest of kids? And sometimes you would say I don't care about that person. I don't care about this person or this community member. I just want to know if we're moving forward any specific and I too, you know, I've been here for now 10 years, 11 years and you constantly planting that seed, not only here with the board, but with administrators and sometimes staff members, too, and just saying, is it right

072for kids? And making sure that we are serving kids in our community. And that is not something that Sometimes as educators we get to experience um and sometimes when we have a seat in leadership that we get to meet people like that. So, I appreciate that. And um on behalf of the administrative team and the board, we're presenting with this plot this evening um presented to Ty Martinez in honor of your tireless loyalty and diligence and a grateful appreciation for your service to the Madawan. One little personal uh story though, Cara when we meet, she comes in also with a notebook >> and she had comes in with a list of sometimes a question, you know, and keeping me on our toes and followup. >> So I I want to give you this, but I

073it's not about the board and the community. I hope that you keep notes in terms of now with all of the time that you will have that you will be able to share share down some special moments whether it's things you want to do things that um you know that you want to be reminded of you want to be reminded of it Um, needless to say, uh, this is a very, um, I don't want to get upset. This is it's tough. I don't have a voice, which is fabulous. Um, some people were happy about that, but um, so this is very hard to do. Um, I, you know, this was a decision that I didn't take lightly, but I also think that, um, it's, you know, we need people to step up, younger families, um,

074that are in the community, um, that have kids that are dedicated. Um, listen, I I I know I still have my niece and nephews in the school district, but they don't they don't care andor if I'm on the board or not. I don't even know if they know I'm on the board. Um but anyway, um these guys are amazing working with these guys starting 12 years ago. And yes, we did hire Nelly. And when we hired Nelly, um things were not good in special services when I came on board. And thanks to Nelly and her department, um we we really she changed everything. And we didn't have any more litigation. We didn't have any more parents upset. We didn't have any more kids missing things. And it was just so um as much as we

075love her as a super, we miss her in that role, too. And she can only just do both, but no, you can't do that. But anyway, we she was amazing. Um Dr. Micah, um you know, I was around for hiring him. Um and we were blessed to have him and just very proud of this district and where it's come. And I always held on to my board seat because I'm like nobody's going to screw this up because like we've done a lot of work and you know these guys have been around forever and I don't I wanted the consistency on the board because you know board members can make change whether it be good, bad or different and I wanted us to stay on the path that we were on. Um, and I feel that

076who's on the board is going to move the board forward and um, I'm grateful for u, Mr. Month Club who who is taking my seat. So, I think he's going to be a great asset and I trust him. So, Mike just Okay. Um, if not if not I'm going to come. Um, but yes, so anyway, I'm just grateful for all of you and it's been great working with all you and I'm not going anywhere. I promise I'll come to meetings and like Mr. Ruben said, maybe I could start yelling again on the other side of the podium, which is where you met me, right? Thank you everybody for everything. >> We have um additional presents for you, but they're like inside jokes, so we figured we'd do it not in front of that. Um, Mr.

077Can we have the student representative report? If you have a report for Lloyd, I think we probably >> I did NOT >> I told you that. I said I'm not saying Congratulations to everyone. Um, starting with the high school, I want to give my congratulations to teacher of the year, Nisa Neil, and the educational services professional of the year, Mr. Robert. In addition to this, I want to thank everyone who participated in the fundraiser that took place over the course of November that was hosted by men's health club. The club raised $200 in donations for the Movember Foundation and congratulations to Mr. who won the negotiating contest. As for the club activities, ASU is still continuing their food drive with ending this Friday 7th. Uh they've already gone through a whole lot. So, it's going

078pretty well. And there have been some slight changes to after school activities with student athletes having more time for clubs since they're now allowed to attend like any club they want. And all this student needs to do is inform the coaches and hand a pass to the coach just for proof that they have. The whole school is also getting excited for the door to door decorating contest that starts this week. And this year we're doing something a little different where teachers vote first and then there's like three or four doors I think are selected and students vote on the second round where they finally get the winners. Then winter choir and the band concert is also taking place this Thursday, December 18th at 700 p.m. Admissions are free, so make sure to attend. And last

079but not least, the high school at a successful parent conference on Thursday and Friday last week at Cambridge. December has been very magic for them. They kicked off their month with their first ever weekl long play and learn event where each student had one adult join them for power play time. Furthermore, they have their seven days of spirit awareness that started off today with swimming. Students and staff can look forward to candy cane day, white and silver day first day of winter festive head day and hat day which end. Their PTO is also sponsoring another interactive assembly by Little Rockers this week. Everyone at Cambridge Park is excited for the upcoming winter break and are ready and are rising to enter 2026 with new goals and challenges on Cliffwood. Principal Shar wants to express her

080gratitude to all the families who attended marriage conferences last week. Would also like to thank the PTO for organizing the holiday shop. Students loves choosing gifts for loved ones and the excitement was felt throughout the school. A big thank you to everyone who participated in Jaw Day and also for contributing to raising over $1,000 for childhood. The school was also filled with holiday spirit as students participated in the holiday door decorative contest, bringing creativity and festive cheer to their office. Third grade peer buddies program was also in action with third graders month mentoring younger students in gym and sharing their published writing with kindergarten. Similarly to Cam Cambridge this week holiday spirit going to school on December 19th at Friday for Friday ice cream at December 19th Friday uh at Monster Ice Center. Moving on

081to craft one, their annual annual holiday food drive organized in collaboration with PTO with a food success. Donations were able to support prek classes hosted a parent event for self-regulation and tools in online classroom where parents were presented with information about the preview and participated in classroom activities tied directly to self-regulation, including graphics practice and free stance. The school's new kindness ticket program kicked off in November. And if anyone happens to be visiting those building and catches an act of kindness, make sure to complete the kindest ticket located in the main office. The track peer buddies program is also underway with their first activity plan earlier this week where they work on activities each month with students from our special from their special education self. Also, congratulations to Miss Me, educator of the year and

082Miss Maline Sienna, educational services professional of the year. Last but not least, the planning has already begun for the third show. Market calendars for Wednesday, May 20th. Details regarding the theme and opportunities for student participation will be shared soon. Over at drive, students have been participating in letter writing including cheer and brightness to summer's day. Miss school pastor incorporated a letters of love and activity into several students. Students made cards made positive messages that will be sent to children in hospitals. Second grade classes participated in metal burrow's sixth annual sending senior smiles a holiday letter. School is also having spirit days this week with students and staff wearing their favorite holiday for winter sweater. The ravine drive PTO is sponsoring their annual holiday bazaar December 16th and 17th for students to be able to do

083some of their shopping. PTO chocolate fund reserve was also a huge success and they want to express their thanks. Thanks to the PTO and volunteers that helped to make these these events a success. Finally, BAM student council organized their annual Thanksgiving food drive and your students collected more than 1,500 donated food items in turn into the largest collection ever. Students from peer buddies and STEM club helped to sort bag items so that counselors and child study team members can deliver these meals to families in our school community. Seventh grade had the most donations and won 100 points for our classes. And just last week, families and guests were treated to be by the man's advanced a great job under the direction of Mr. Wells. This week, quarter students will perform their winter show under the

084direction of Mrs. Le help support their art programs and attend the door concert on Wednesday, December 7th, 17th. James's annual holiday door decorating contest is also underway. Students and staff are hard at work trying to earn bragging rights and the title of best award for 2025. The winner will be selected on December 22nd. Thank you to the art teachers, Mr. Stevens and Miss for organizing this fun. And this brings me to the end of my report. And I don't know about everyone else, but I am very excited for our winter break. >> Happy holidays and I'll see everyone next week. Safe and restful breaking up last week. Okay, moving on to the um curriculum and instruction. Thank you. Curricular instruction agenda and we're asking the board to take action this evening. Press the board to

085approve item A travel attached. Item B of the Press the board to approve field trips that are on page one. Thank you on page two. These include new field trips and there is one that's listed at the bottom of the chart. Press the board to approve item number two on page two. This is asking a board to approve recipient. And then item number three on page 30 as we're asking the board to approve the submission of the application to department of human services for a grant of $50,000 academy. Uh should we receive that grant will come back to the award with that curriculum instruction. >> Thank you. Um can I have a motion and a second to approve the curriculum instruction? Not motion. I'll second. Any questions? Murphy. Not a question. Just want to say

086thank you to the educational foundation because I think um I think what they do um is fantastic in terms of bringing up um essentially um you know what why they chose a program versus another program. Um I think that's incredibly helpful for for us to see. Um I believe also demonstrates and shows us that in the district um like the steps and things like that um and as we're thinking about budget moving forward that also is helpful just to have that in so I would also just like to piggyback on that some of the activities and programs that they provide for our district are phenomenal. um I see them in action and just just an amazing opportunity that they bring to our students. Um different opportunities. So, thank you to everybody behind the scenes that

087work so hard on raising those funds and getting those programs to us. They're pretty cool. On item three, I just wanted to thank the administration for um just being creative and being can do about doing things like a DHS grant application. I it's just it's it's nice to see uh how this administration looks to diversify revenue sources um in this way. I mean, you don't have to do it and it's totally appreciated. >> May I say one more um on the the other here with the um visitations from the students from the high school and the middle school to the elementary schools. I don't it's probably me but I don't remember seeing much of that before. So I think that's pretty awesome that we're getting, you know, our students to interact with our other students

088in different buildings. So that's and even the wingman group is is a pretty awesome group, too. So I really liked seeing that on the agenda. um this this month here. Um and then the Keys, I really hope we get that grant for Keys Academy because that's a fantastic program, too. So, a lot of good things happening right now. Thank you. So, the grant so I will look I will probably be out for assistance because it is something new in terms of where we're trying to see revenue. We received that grant. The last was pretty since it's not DOE application so it took some time. Um but it was it worked out well timeline you know they allowed time so sometimes they come in another time um so I was happy to submit that application the

089last time and same with this one I didn't anticipate that it's just because it's different and it's coming from the departments of the account that we're submitting to. So um which is great because they see the work that's being done there and that it's impacting all of the students. which is I did want to point out one um one item. So there was a question that came in from the board um with the trip for the National Constitution Center um in regards to the cost the um there's still the the the PTO and the eighth grade they're still fundraising for that. So there it will not go over $50 per student. Um but they're continue to fund raise up until that event um in March and then this way so the cost will be minimal

090um and then to ensure that if there there are families that can't afford it that we'll be able to support >> I think you can still buy crumb case from >> this I just um I just want to say Miss L, that you know, I don't know exactly what you just said about the Keys grant because it's above my my pay grade here, but that's amazing because I know Miss L goes to all these state legislative meetings on her own free time in addition to everything else. So, I guess that might have something to do with the funds that you're looking to get for keys, which is >> I'm not going to take credit for that. >> Just the actual application, that's what she does. Okay. Okay. But still, thank you for all of that

091because it's just impressive. >> Um, all of the academy is fantastic. I So, I went to the walk um that we had earlier this year and what stuck to me as well as when I attend graduation is that the students that end up at Keys in the Keys program have not been successful in other programs. So whatever is happening with Keys and with um with Miss Canvas who is you know leading that program they're the kids are being more successful there than other programs where they have nothing. So I think that's phenomenal. It's like the last place they end up. It's their last it's their last shot I guess. And to know that you know the kids get up at graduation and they say you know I went to Florida. that didn't work out here,

092I'm there. You know, your parents are so appreciative. So, um that's just for anyone who doesn't know that's already covered in a school on the campus. So, I'm hopefully get the funds and I know that it's expanded to include tuition from other districts. So, fantastic program, student services, >> student services agenda, we're asking the board to take action this evening. Item number one, we're asking the board to approve bedside instruction with programs, cost of faculty as listed. Item number two, bedside instruction for Keys Academy as listed. Item number three, revised bedside instruction as listed. And item number four, brass award to approve the acceptance of the grant in the amount of $2,500 from Special Olympics by Champions School that is for our school. back and forth. >> Thank you. Can I have a motion and

093a second to approve? A motion. A second. Any questions? >> Personnel agenda. >> Resting the board to approve personnel agenda this evening. It begins with a walk-in item that the board has. We're asking the board to approve the walk-in item to staff members listed for your appointments for the 256 school year. Moving on to the regular agenda. asking the board to pay tax on item A reservations and retirements. We have one resignation and three retirements with effective fees listed. Item B, leave of absence for 256 school year. It's on page one continues on page two and includes on page three of five. On page three, item number C, appointments. In addition to the walk-in, ask the board to approve staff member that's listed hired with effective dates. Item number two, ask the board to approve

094for extracurricular activities at the school yearly activities. Three staff members listed for one to one assignment and then four persons listed for crowd control, high school, middle school. Item number three, the title at the bottom of the page continues on the next page. Staff right changes from 25 to 26 school year changes are on page four five listed are transfers and overload assignments with effective reasons. Item number ID other item number one the report work from the previous meeting last month on page 505 other continues. So item number two, rescue board to approve staff member as a substitute Danielson observer evaluator. These are additional hours that were previously approved up to 10. Item number three, we're asking to approve teachers from the middle school for our early breakfast duties for 256 school year names, times

095and rates listed. Item number four, request report additional hours from 2526 school year as staff members listed with their hours and dates. Item number five, ask the board to approve the nursing service plan for 2526. This is an annual approval that's required for each district to do this part. Item number six, we're asking the board to approve the information agreement for 2526 school year with Satan Hall College of Nursing. The r uh listed cost to district. >> I have a motion and a second to approve a motion. >> I'll second questions this morning. Just a couple things. Um uh I noticed Miss Bower is on the agenda here. Um she is my son. My son's third grade teacher currently. I just cannot say enough positive things about Miss Fowler and how she has literally changed

096my son's confidence level this past year in his education. Um I am so sad to see her leave the district but happy that she's going to retire and enjoy her grand her new grandchild and her life outside of academia. But I just thank her so much so much. She is phenomenal. um as a person and an educator. So um thank you to Miss Bower. Um before I pass this mic along, there's something else. Um I'm a graduate of Sen Hall myself. So go Pirates. So super excited to see our um affiliation with the College of Nursing. That's very exciting. Um so I just wanted to say yay that. Thank you. That's it. I'm going to also make two comments if I can um school. I just wanted to say thank you in the district for

097always keeping a focus on the future and that's not just about our students. It's about making sure we provide an opportunity for other students to come in and learn from our staff. And adding on to that um for us reviewing the nursing services plan it was very eye opening to see how much our nurses are responsible for. It is overwhelming and I just thank them so much. They have our students literal lives in their hands on a daily basis and uh for those of you who don't know the plan lists out every single nurse in every single school and everything that they are responsible for at different grades and it was just so long. So thank you to all our nurses. I will add that um as a as in New Jersey, you're only required

098to have one nurse per the entire district and we have been able to have a nurse in every building um you know in a way that is responsible in our budget. Appreciate that as well. Miss work. Um I also wanted to congratulate um the retirees who all have over 20 years of service to the district. Um similar to Miss Ro. Um my kids have had um the uh amazing opportunity to have Mrs. Bower. Um my daughter who is now junior in college had her back in second grade um as her main teacher and then my son had her in Richmond. And I am also sad to see her go because she is just very inspiring to the kids. Builds up my daughter's confidence so much. Um and was just a really fantastic teacher. So I'm

099happy for her. She will get to spend more time with her family. Um it's just I also echo those comments. um Miss Bower. Congratulations to her. But she also um she does she changed lives of so many children of of my daughter and her confidence as well as an enrichment teacher. Um she her and her friends still talk about the little books from second grade. Um they still have their t-shirts and you know she's like a core memory builder within her um the educational experiences that she provides. I'm really happy for her, but really sad. >> Yeah, I will also echo that without adding too much to the time that I will just say yes, battle of the books. Yes, a million extra ideas that she had that really um uh rounded out the the

100academic experience, especially in um the early grades. U my son had her had the luck to have her because of a very unlucky thing that happened with his teacher. she's okay, her child's okay, but um suddenly they needed a new teacher and Miss Bower stepped in very next day and it was like, no offense to subs in general, but I mean it wasn't like a sub. It was like she just took over right away and it was absolutely fantastic. We took we a lot of us were very we knew this was third grade and a lot of us were very concerned about how this this transition was going to happen and she just made us all feel at ease. Introduced herself right away and said okay we're just we're going and it was just wonderful.

101So congratulations to her. Um I too would like to congratulate the retirees. I didn't my kids were in uh we didn't have I didn't have those teachers. My kids didn't have those teachers. Um but just looking at these retirements, it's over 80 years of service. We just three guys. So, um you know, thank you for all your service and enjoy retirement. Um and looking forward and thank you for everything. Moving on to policy agenda. >> Thank you. >> We are asking the board to consider the following. Item number one is a first street of policies which includes policy 0000 bylaws for legal services 0 bylaws for professional services for categories administration for policy and regulation. That's 15 70,000 for internal controls. Policy 1620 for administrative employment contracts. 5,000 policy 5517 for applicable identification cards. Policy

102ad regulation 611 for special education Medicaid initiative or semi program policy and regulation 6220 for budget preparation and policy 16360 where contributions and we're asking the board to take action on item number two which is a second reading adoption of our policies as listed on the bottom of page one and continues on page two of the bill that policy Thank you. Can I have a motion on the second policy? I'll motion. >> I'll second question. >> I just had one that I sent in, but I didn't see an answer on it yet. So, I wanted to check. Um it was on the budget preparation in uh it was in policy. Um there was a a big important sentence or two that was um taken out in regards to uh the principles um you know having

103an opportunity to provide feedback into that essentially. Um was that removed reason or does it fall somewhere else now? So the the the strength on that part speaks to the principal part is um part of practice of budgeting the change in policy is to the procedure. So the superintendent and business administrator procedure part confusing so we made that change so it's clear superintendent. Thank you. Any other questions? >> I just wanted to ask a question about the signing with the 90%. Is that what we've been talking about consistently every year? Trying to get every single parent to sign off. Is that the same thing? And are how are we doing that 90% somehow? You're able to get that? >> Some years and some years no. Um, but if if it's not 90, it's 89%. You

104know, so it's very very it's never been below like below an 89 and an 88 um for the last few years. Um, and we we try to take every opportunity the staff to take every opportunity to get the signature for commission to submit, but it is voluntary. It's 90% inconceivable. So, thank you for that work. I'll just add that I know there's a lot of policies on here. So, keep in mind that anything that's for first read um we have now until January 5th to review and have any questions feel free to bring them up. Um, and then if you feel that we're not prepared to have those as a second read on approval on January 5th, we can always move them further down. >> Oh. Oh, it's it's the 27th. Is that the second

105meeting? The second meeting agenda. So even the regular Right. So we will do it at the committee of the whole. We'll do it at the regular action meeting which will be the second meeting of the councils. So January 5th will be reordered and it's technically not a regular action. Okay. Finance agenda. Good evening. We're looking to take action on the following items. The board secretary for the month of November for payroll as well as the acceptance of the board secretary and treasures report approval of the transfers. Approval of the bills list. Uh tonight we had the pleasure during the executive to also have our brand new auditor out. Um they took a deep dive into all of the 2425 school year. I just wanted to give a big shout out to the whole central office

106and all of the teams that really you know everybody kind of takes a part in the audit and um we are thrilled to say that we have no audit findings and that doesn't come without you know the hard work and dedication of everybody who touches a part of that process and it starts with the secretaries of the building and goes all the way through. So we really appreciate that. Um, as we spoke earlier tonight, we talked about keys. We are accepting another out of district tuition student for the program. So, we're thrilled for that. Uh, tonight we also are accepting an amendment to the substitute standing services. We do go out for competitive bid for them. Uh, however, every year in January, we have the average rate that goes up. So, as does the cost

107back to us. And then uh number eight, we just have a revision to the ESA grant. We had a little bit of carryover money in title three. So we just reapply to use that accordingly. As we go to the next page, we are authorizing the use of competitive contracting as we know that we are in our fifth of 5 years for air and we need to go out for a bid for custodial. We want to make sure that this year that aligns with the budget so that we have those rates back before we have to approve the budget in March. Um, as we move forward, we have the December district enrollment report and we are very thrilled that we have an abundance of acceptance of donations for a variety of reasons. Um, some was for

108the winter wonderland dinner, others was for the music theater at the high school. And then we also had one of our principles right here at Lloyd Road cold calling companies and were able to get compliant area rugs for some of the classrooms. So that is 13 to 14. So it's all about that. And we have the fire and evacuation drills for the month of November as well as twice a year we have them for bus evacuation drills as listed. We are awarding the transportation for the added grants for the 25 26 school year. And then um you know without further ado, we've also already started the budget process for the 26 27 school year. It's well underway. Um as we kind of go about that, we know that the state will have a new governor.

109So, we have not seen the election calendar. There could be some changes due to that. So, you know, we'll keep everyone in line with that, but we're looking to take action on those. >> Thank you. I have a motion and a second to approve the plans agenda. I'll motion. Any questions? >> I'll just say that um I appreciate all the donations. I know that uh through the QAC, which is the um um state review of our facilities. They do review of everything, but facilities is one of the things. That's when it was determined that we had bugs that were not fire compliant. I guess they weren't fire resistant. So again, called whoever he could think of to help get that. I think he just kind of took that picture on himself because it's expensive and

110I think that the budgets were kind of done for a year. So that's that's what he did. So just another um instances showcasing how responsible the district tries to be with task numbers. >> Um I also wanted to say thank you for the donations and I love the idea that he took it upon himself to basically cold call places um and get donations for us. So phenomenal we should do it more. Um so that's a great idea. Um, and then I wanted to say congratulations on the audit because that is fantastic to have zero funings. Um, and this is with a new auditor. So, even better because they didn't find anything. Um, so I am very happy to hear that and I know that a lot of work in time goes into so thank you

111to everybody in this case, my whole central office team. Um, you know, that's Yeah, I should add that. I'm sorry to say that. I appreciate that as well. And one of the things that we did have a finding on last time, we did really well. The only thing that was found was that we didn't have enough of capital reserves, which we now do. Um, so appreciate that. You know, doing whatever magic needs to be done to make sure that we're confined there. We're required to have specific percentages. Um, so really really appreciate the fact that a third party is auditing every single penny. Um, shows that fiscally responsible But >> um yeah, I I basically want to just piggy back off you guys. So, how long have you been 21? 21. So, um I I

112saw quite a few BAS. Um and yeah, we'll just say I saw quite a few PAs, but um you thank God uh came along and you know, again, Dr. right um part you our way um and we're grateful for you. I have no idea how or what you do because it's so far above every single thing that we do. Um I'm amazed at it because if you ask you ask anything you you just know it. Um and you know it takes time to live all these grants and look for money. It's exhausting. It really is. So, um I I I'm amazed in the department. I don't know how you guys do it. I don't know if I should know how you do it. Um but I'm grateful for you guys and um you know, no

113findings is amazing cuz that was never the case back in the day. And um I'm just I'm proud I'm proud of you guys. I'm proud of the district and who we are. And um again, thank you. And I know you've got a lot going on and you have a life, you have a family, but you manage it. So, uh, we appreciate it. So, thank you. >> The board of education recognizes the value of public comment on matters of interest to the school community. Individuals wishing to speak must state their name and address. New Jersey. >> Oh, Mrs. Martinez, I didn't know you were leaving. >> You didn't? >> I didn't. >> How do you not know that? >> I don't know. I wasn't paying attention during the election. >>

115But I do want to say that um I have been around here for a long time. Uh I have not been attending board meetings for 28 years but in my capacity as president over the last 10 I try to get to as many as I can and before that vice president I would come and um there's been a transformation of the board over the years. um some boards of ed there's factions that don't get along and egos and people trying to power play and you can kind of see it as conversations occurring and that just doesn't happen here and um I think you helped set the tone for that going you know back a ways um so I want to thank you for being a board member and always looking out at the interest of

116the district um staff and students as well as community members so um I wish you well and I'm going I'll keep you to your word of saying you're going to be at the meetings because you know we do have a few people here today but most of the time it's just me. Um I do have one question regarding the audit. You're saying that we have a new auditor but it still lists subly company. Isn't that who we used in the past? >> I'll make a correction. I should say I don't know who John and Perry associates. >> Oh I used to use them for my purposes. Okay. Well, congratulations. >> Thank you, Casey. I appreciate it. And it's been it's been a pleasure working with you. Um, many laughs, many not laughs. Um, many negotiations.

117Um, but overall, and I even even as a parent when I was on the PTO road, um, working with you guys, you know, um, I know everybody's afraid of you, but I know who you are. you're you're not you're not as mean as you come off. So, we love you and thank you uh for all you do because you really uh don't have the greatest job ever being in Union Press. Nobody else probably wants it, right? >> Correct. >> All right. So, um good good news. Continue on until you retire in that position. But yeah, I may come sit with you. >> All right. >> At the next few meetings, I I'll hold you to it. He'll save me a seat. Do you have any unfinished business or sorry? >> Yeah, I just wanted to

118give a quick update on the del we had a del assembly. Um and uh that was on November I believe was 22nd. It's back here. Um, but one of the things that I don't know if you all remember that the New Jersey School Board Association president designed and so um they uh they the assembly I mean I guess what the delegate assembly actually votes on the the president so he did and um the uh choice was Michael Jacobs. He's from Bridgefield and he has a really impressive resume. Um I'll share it if anybody's interested. uh a uh the treasurer of the US Mexico Chamber of Commerce and um used to work with the US Olympic team. So, wow. Um and the uh the vice president is Bernardet Dalisandre from Netcom. Um she was great too.

119Uh but I really wanted to update just so people can kind of understand what's some of the dynamics thinking of factions and what have you. um unlike the previous one that this delegate assembly the resolutions were uh very contentious. And so um the first resolution was the one about um uh giving the Department of Education some leeway to allow um board members to sit and have a criminal record that the Department of Education then could consider when it happened, circumstances, what the person's life has been since then. Um I did speak in favor on behalf our board because we had agreed to do that and um a few other members spoke in favor of a lot of members spoke against and eventually there was a motion to postpone the uh matter indefinitely which was passed

120by the group. So while maybe this board is a little more forward thinking some are not quite there yet. Um I just wanted to share that. Um and the uh the resolution about uh providing uh universal or or I'm sorry supporting the belief that there should be universal free school meals for all preK through 12 students in New Jersey. Um if funded by the state and federal government um that did pass but again very contentious. It was frankly shocking to me to hear people speak against that. um you know I mean beyond just costs at a local level there was just some some people conceptually don't believe there should be preschool lunch um and then finally the uh the resolution about supporting the belief that STEM education should be integrated into aspects of prek through

12112 curricula on a more even level than it is right now. Um eventually that was postponed that way. >> Really? Yeah. So some people believe that reading and you know reading my arithmetic should be all there is apparently. So it's it's interesting. I mean, I I think this is this has been eye opening that um all every district is permitted to have a seat at the table at the delegate assembly and every from now on please I mean I say if you know anybody that's in a school board in their district that doesn't participate please go because there's there's just one mindset in a lot of ways like the majority and and there's a lot of people came to me afterwards because I did speak you know as we had talked about and they were

122saying oh yeah it's just so nice to You're somebody that thinks the way I do and just a couple of us. So, just something to think about. >> Miss Cal, can I just ask for the lunch? Is the state saying that they're going to give us that money? >> Oh, this is the this uh would be that the school board association would then lobby for that. >> Okay. So, it's moving forward. But hope hopefully it's not going to be on the districts. What they would be lobbying for is for the state. >> For the state combination of statew for taking your own time to um attend that on our behalf. We appreciate your time and effort. Um new business. Oh, one um new business. Um, I just wanted to, it's not really it has to

123do with what happened tonight, but um, in terms of the staff that was tenure tonight, I did want to say congratulations to them all. And what was so impressive to me is that so many of them, their favorite teachers were teachers from our district. So that was awesome. So that's what I want to say. >> Um, Miss Wiki, is this um, I do have um, one um topic to bring up um is one of the community feedback um emails that the board received um using our new forum on the board of ed website um from a community member regarding um referencing one of the board's policies um requiring all volunteer coaches to obtain a substitute teaching certificate um which I wasn't aware of myself. Um I think it's um a good question, very interesting, and

124I think we should um review that policy um sooner rather than later to see what it outlines and maybe the why behind it and maybe see if there's something that um we can evaluate moving forward. So I just like to bring that to your attention. Thank you. So noted um we have a policy committee. We'll put that on the agenda. Maybe do some work on that because the current chair is Martinez. So, we'll be looking to um have additional coordinates. Lights up and it goes down. I'll just use my big mouse if it's better. Thank you. Um in light of the recent events, I think we should possibly re revisit the facilities use policy. I'm thinking that we may need to add the three items that we're now requiring as well as some strong language

125around consequences for violating the policies. >> Yeah. So, so I'll just add a little bit to that. Um, we already have been asked last year to update the facilities policy in response to some violations, violations, attempts to circumvent our booking systems. um just kind of old school methods of you know kind of saying hey I use the building tonight so we wanted to clamp that administration asked us to kind of clamp that down which we went through the policy committee did approved um we did note some improvements but there have been um concerning incidents during non school related community events in with persistent activities um the most egregious of which uh led to the very strong response last week. Um, so lot of social media chatter about what exactly happened. We know that questions about

126specific incidents may arise. Lord and the administration are committed to transparency, but will strictly uphold critical legal and safety responsibilities. We will not comment on ongoing investigations, anything that compromises student confidentiality or any details that may impact school security protocols. um and all necessary operational and security decisions made by district leadership are supported by the board to ensure a protected environment for every student and staff member. Um it was a little disappointing to see um the type of methods that were used to get attention um around the decisions that had to be made. Um and um I was DC on a communication from our superintendent to the mayor elect in which he explicitly stated his non-sup support of the district's actions despite the superintendent's request for help and characterized the situation as a non-emergency which

127also was characterized that way on social media. um not his determination to make non-emergency. It's not something that you know he had information to be able to determine. Um also talking about the district's buildings belonging to taxpayers. District buildings and grounds are owned and governed by the school district. Um and lastly, he asked, you know, he forwarded the email to all all um municipal partners but left off many from that one. Um the district is going to work through improving communications. Um so hopefully, you know, we can learn from everything. Um but uh we do know that the main um school impacted the email address that was entered into our booking system was incorrect. So it's really hard to notify people when the information is not there. Um, if you want to be included on

128districtwide communications and you're not a member of the school community, you can sign up to receive notifications in the district website. Um, I just wanted to again reiterate that the superintendent is well within your scope to make any decisions regarding the use, suspension, or cancellation of district of access to district facilities in accordance with statute, board policy, and requirements for student safety and security. The administrative decisions are not subject to political influence or principal direction and those were not the reasons why the facilities were again reopened for use. We value collaboration. We will work with whoever would like to work with us in good faith efforts, but we will not compromise uh legal obligations or governance responsibilities. The district's actions are and will remain guided solely by law, policy, and the best interest of our

129students. Um I I too just want to be considering it's my not my last night out. Um I would like to say that over the years um I know social media makes a big difference of why everybody knows everything and thinks they need to know everything. But with that being said and and Miss Warning, he also said it. Um the superintendent can and will shut down a school or district or can do whatever they choose to do when they want to do it. Um the board of ed obviously is is aware of the decision and we understand why. But the community seems over the last few years, it's like everybody is very needy of every detail and they want more and more and more information and it's like it's almost like a form of micromanaging

130people's jobs. So at the end of the day, you know, we hire a superintendent to run the school district and we have to trust that they are making decisions that are in the safety based on the safety of the children and their staff. And constant constantly do I notice that people are questioning every single move we make, whether it be the town, whether it be council, and and you know what? People should know about what they're doing. That's their purview. It's their right. Um that's their elected position. So it's just frustrating. Um because back in the day when I first started, forget about even on the board as a PTO parent, the superintendent, we knew nothing, absolutely nothing of what was going on. And if you ask, they did not tell you. So the the

131amount of information that is given out from the superintendent now versus Dr. Michael when he was here in the last 10 years, eight years that I've been sitting here um is is phenomenal. So I would just make people aware that you you you know you don't go knocking on people's doors and questioning what their jobs are and what their bosses are doing and why did they make that decision. Like there are some things you just don't know for a reason. It's private. these kids, it it could be about kids that are minors. Um, so I just want people to be aware that um, you know, they have to trust and I and and from coming from somebody who's been up here for as long as I have, I can tell you you guys are very

132lucky with the administration you have, the super we have and the admin, the cabinet, um, the school um, principles and staff and whatnot. So trust in the district that they're making the right decision and just be okay with it and leave it at that. And I hope I hope things, you know, get better. And I appreciate everything the district does. And I I as a board member and I know the rest of the board supported Miss Perez in her decision because it was the right decision to do and we appreciate her always looking out for the kids and and staff. So, thank you. >> Also, I think it's important to relay and I've said this before, the best way to get information is directly through the source. I mean, we have this was something that

133um was an initiative of this board, previous board as well, just being able to be transparent. The board Facebook page, board article, newspaper, the email that was created to be able to track, you know, where concerns are coming in. Are they coming from specific schools? Are they specific categories? All of that was done intentionally to kind of figure out what we could do better for the community when we're um hearing from them. So, we want that, you know, we want that um input, but you know, going on social media and asking, you know, questions that nobody's going to know the answers to. It's just please reach out. There's maybe your school principal, the um central office administration used the email. Uh I know that Miss Car spoke to community members who reached out directly to

134her. Um I know I I I could be wrong, but I believe that you have the phone number and he has yours of the person who decided to take this conversation to social media. So he could have very well reached out directly to you and gotten his answer. So, I don't know.
