012i'm not that by the way [Laughter] um i am going to uh perhaps hold my comments for later let's see how the night goes uh mr walsh vice president uh updates for us highlights we do have district highlights but they'll be brief as our student council reps uh stole my fire again and did an excellent job really uh pending a picture so great job guys but uh congratulations to the cerebral war memorial high school marching band and color guard for winning second place in a band competition at metuhden high school in september likewise we congratulate them for performing magnificently during the rutgers university band day last month as well as during the night of a thousand stars band competition at the beginning of this month congratulations to cerebral war memorial high school student mayhem huda
013who was recently awarded a 2022 national merit scholarship letter of commendation congratulations to several war memorial high school senior adrian uh cadiacallo and taha bracha who were crowned 2021 homecoming king and queen and um just want to echo what you guys said it's great to see uh i've been in a lot of the events i've been at the football games i've been at a couple soccer games and i think i mentioned this uh last meeting too we have our cycle squad there with uh the students i know your kids are in there but what a great atmosphere and it's it's so deserved by uh the students and uh i'm glad to hear things you're getting back to normal for everybody because it's really been a uh outstanding atmosphere at all the events i've been at
014at cerebral so far so uh keep it up and hope everyone keeps having a you know a great year and mr walsh the piggyback on that i attended the night of a thousand stars for the first time and i was blown away um not only did in my opinion our band outperformed any other band that evening but all the band you know all the bands that performed were outstanding um the event was incredibly well coordinated you had bands going to the middle school bands coming to the high school our band parents they cannot be thanked enough for the magnificent work that they did to coordinate such an extraordinary event and one that was incredibly memorable for everyone that attended including me but especially um our musicians and our color guard performers so um i have
015to echo what you said um with regard to um you know what uh what a climate we have right now in terms of our student activities so yep it's it's great to see you picking back up where we left off okay thank you mr walsh uh so we have uh an additional presentation this evening that's not on the at least my report is it did i miss it somewhere it's not on the agenda it's not on now it's a it's a a presentation on dr lobby i'm going to let you take it away because i know you want to uh you and mrs bloom have something special yeah guest here tonight it's a tradition um a very long-standing tradition probably one that was started by this individual um in which we celebrate and we recognize
016board of education members when they leave our board um and we never had a chance to do so with this individual and um you know i can't think of anyone more deserving of the recognition seeing that probably was i i don't know for sure but um probably the longest running board member uh or close to in state history i'm talking over 25 years of dedication toward a board of education and very deserving of this recognition so mrs bloom if you could join me up front so that we could recognize board of education former board of education member kevin syak for his outstanding service to our school district [Applause] i'm just going to take down my mask so everybody can hear me i always told kevin he was the fourth child that i didn't want but
017i was only kidding because i really do love him he has been the president of this board of education he has served as president of the middlesex county board of education he has served as president of the state board of education and also the national board of education he is well respected by everyone who knows him and i always felt he was my walking encyclopedia if i needed to know if it was a law a statute a regular policy i just called up kevin and he told me exactly what i needed to know so tonight i take great pleasure having got a few phone calls out to get a few people to come and i'm just honored to give years of service [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so thank you uh i just want to take a
018minute to thank the board of education dr labbe for the the plaque and the recognition uh mrs bloom thank you for your persistence in uh in getting me here i think you've been working on this for about six or seven months to coordinate the schedules and make this happen i really appreciate it uh i also want to thank the community for electing me to serve for 26 years when you think about that that's two full back-to-back k-12 cohorts that went through the district while i was a board of education member and it was an honor to serve all of those students and serve this community i also want to extend my thanks to our educators not only our teachers and our administrators but also our educational support professionals for the work that they do uh
019and for the work in educating board members and myself included on the specific challenges that the students in cerebral face because unfortunately we don't always see represented in our school board all of the parents of the children in our district because that single mom who's working two jobs to take care of their child doesn't have time to serve on the school board haters made sure that their voice was heard in the conversations that i had with them in the data that was reported in the information that was shared with the board and it helped inform our decision making i truly want to thank the community for absolutely wonderful years uh danny depalo who served the board of education for 43 years i'll never forget this he uh we were at a junior prom very early
020in my career as a board member and it was actually held in the old cafeteria and writer packing up and getting ready to file out he looked at me with his wife lorraine standing you know right next to him and he says you know kevin these students they don't know who we are and they don't know what we do but they know we were here and that's all that matters for 26 years it was an honor to be here and for me that's all that matters thank you [Applause] okay see moving on dr labbe we'll go with you first your annual state of the state stays the school's yes okay outstanding uh before i begin my state of the school's address i want to recognize some very very special people and those are the people
021that um make up our incredible a team we call them a for awesome our administrative team if they could please rise and we can give them a big hand please dr lavi i hate to interrupt but before we get to your i know what's going to be exciting and thralling presentation uh i know we usually give the student council reps the opportunity because i know you're very excited to hear all this but if you guys would like to leave you're more than welcome if you have homework or school stuff please feel free to move on and this will be stream because this won't be succinct [Laughter] thank you mr walsh very much i forgot to do that thanks again jada and stephanie outstanding job both of you yes yes but as i was saying um
022i can't compliment um the amazing administrators in this district um who are the the true leaders um within this district and we're going to report on some great things and obviously um the great things that we accomplished last year are the result of the hard work of our administrators our incredible teachers and support staff members the entire district but every year when we do our state of the school's address all of our administrators come out from our a team to recognize and celebrate all of our accomplishments and to support our endeavors for for the current school year so i thank all of them for taking the time away from their families um they already work many many more hours than they should um but by being here it really demonstrates a lot um to many
023of us but especially me so thank you very much um so i will be brief i i know that we started a little bit late um so and also my red sox are playing houston they're up in the series two games to one so i'd like to see a little bit more of that hopefully we pull out another win tonight um so i'll begin this is our state of the school's address um basically what i'm going to do during my addresses what i do every year during my address we're going to go over what we accomplished last year and yes we did have a pandemic to deal with but we still accomplished many things that i'm going to go over with you we'll go over our goals whether we accomplish our 2020 21 goals i'll
024introduce to you our 2021-22 goals dr shediak will review briefly our standardized assessment results and then ms hill um will finalize things with a preview of the 2022-2020 budget development calendar so as you know on the overview basically during the state of the schools we want to provide the school community with the current level of thoroughness and efficiency of our educational programs services and the business operation i'm not going to go through the many accomplishments i i have it there on in our report if you're watching this meeting online the um my presentation is posted online so you can take a look at it but you know we accomplished many things despite the pandemic um you know we we did a lot in terms of the facilities we replaced our lighting with highly efficient lighting
025as part of our energy savings improvement program we installed um highly efficient boilers at a number of our schools you can see it there we repaired the roofs in three of our schools uh we and we're replacing the roof and another one now we replaced the windows at eisenhower on the the the all-purpose room flooring at eisenhower and truman and we are currently in the process of installing hvac in every large space within every school this district with the exception of cheesequake because we do not own that school so when it comes to accomplishments we're real proud of what we did in terms of focusing on our facilities and renovating and improving them to the best of our ability when all said and done by the end of this year we will have spent 15
026million dollars to improve the facilities in this district and that's something we're real proud of we've also made a conscientious effort to improve technology as well as the work that we've done with our servers and so forth uh mr glock malloy mr woranowicz and his amazing uh technology team uh we implemented a one-to-one initiative so that every student in grades eight through twelve will have a chromebook that they can take to and from school if they so choose to do so and we provided all of our staff members with laptops um i know that one of the problems that we've had since the beginning of this year has been buses and it's the same problem we've been having year and year after year um and we've made a conscientious effort to buy more buses two
027years ago we bought 17 this year we continued in that process by buying three more buses next year we'll continue to do that too until we can transport at least 90 80 to 90 percent of our students and we're real close to that mark now about somewhere in the 70 range and that's a long way from where we came from when i came into the district where we're only transporting 30 percent of our kids so uh we bought new buses and that was important we hired more staff to make our business office and our human resources office more um efficient we hired more campus security monitors for the evening we had a tough time finding part-time staff so we cop we we pivoted and we hired five full-time evening campus security monitors i believe we're
028fully staffed now mr glock malloy we are almost fully set almost fully staffed great um and and that that was one of the areas that we felt that we needed to address uh in terms of school security we needed to address that security in the evening and by having these full-time campus security monitors in the evenings floating around our schools being stationed at the middle school high school samso and then floating to our other schools we believe we can do that um one of the other things we're real proud of and mr cola is here tonight mr cola miss maharana worked real hard over the summer to apply for a career exporter exploration grant and they received it over sixty five thousand dollars i believe uh dr shetiak correct um that we'll be using to
029hire a teacher whenever we're whenever they approve the grant right we're looking forward to that being done soon oh awesome so that's something that we we um we're very proud of as well as the fact that we have now three new cte stipends at the high school for that program along in terms of curriculum and instruction um you know we we held two acceleration learning camps this year our normal extended school year camp but also an acceleration learning camp core are students that do not have disabilities we provided free credit completion at both the high school and middle school we expanded social and emotional learning services district-wide now through effective school solutions so now we have tier two and tier three social and emotional services as well as psychiatric services for any student that would
030need such throughout the district we created a pilot program for our rotc program at the high school so now we have an 8th grade rotc program something we're incredibly proud of and of course colonel spare and master sergeant nolden continue to do such an amazing job developing that program and more importantly developing the young women and men that are in that program we implemented a new high school stem academy and we actually began purchasing new materials for it especially a new engineering course with resources called lead the way we're really excited about that and we continue to expand upon our fontes and pinell work at the elementary level we purchase new textbooks acro at various in various courses throughout the district purchase new licenses for software such as st math and another thing we're real
031proud of through the work of mr naster we hired an educational consultant to come on out and evaluate the alternative literacy programs that we have within the district and then to provide alternative literacy development especially professional development and a consultative model to all of our teachers teaching resource center uh in the elementary school and that person is dr coonson already we're we're getting rave reviews about what he's doing uh and of course dr shetiak's been hard at work um with our supervisors of instruction as well as our teachers in writing um and approving new curricula um which is not only state mandated but as part of our curriculum revision plan that dr shediak and our supervisory team developed so we did accomplish a lot yes we had to contend with the pandemic but no that
032did not stop the amazing professionals in this district in moving this district forward so again we cannot thank enough our incredible administrators our wonderful faculty and our amazing support staff for all that they did to help us accomplish everything that we accomplished last year if you look at our goals um beginning with finance we did achieve our first goal which was to continue to explore self-insured medical insurance in fact we implemented self-insured medical insurance this july so kudos to miss hill um for that um great accomplishment and i'm proud to say that we are now self-insured across the board uh medical prescription and dental to some degree we have a couple of dental programs that are not selling because they're not able to but again that's been a long standing goal and and once say
033that i'm very proud that we accomplished last year we're still working hard on that free and reduced lunch goal it's so important for us as a school district to um you know to to make sure that any of our parents who are potentially eligible for free and reduced meals apply for it um not only that does that naturally help those families but it actually helps the district um so that's still a goal of ours to see if we can increase the number of parents that apply for free and reduced lunch and as you can find out as you can find out as you may or may not know because of the pandemic during the summer any parents that are eligible for free and reduced lunch get anywhere up to a month i think it was
034something like that in what's called electronic pandemic funds so again any parents watching this please if you think that you might be eligible for free and reduced lunch please simply apply in terms of facilities if you look at what we provided there on the slides we accomplished every single one of our facilities goals including and most importantly the energy savings improvement program as well as a solar power purchase agreement all that is slated to go and because of that energy savings improvement program it's enabled us to go ahead and install or replace our hvac units that are either either existing now like at samsul or at the high school or install new hvac in places that it was no it wasn't before such as in the middle school gymnasium as well as the middle school
035media center so that energy savings improvement program not only helped us replace lighting replace mechanicals such as boilers it also helped us install at no cost to the taxpayer by the way all that those new hvac systems along with that what's helping that is our solar power purchase agreement and i think at some point this year we'll begin installing those solar panels on the roofs as well as building carports so that we can begin to um collect that that energy um so that again we can reap the rewards of the savings from that energy in terms of information technology and operations you can go through that and see as well thanks to the magnificent work by mr glock malloy mr ranowitz and our technology team we accomplished every single one of those goals in terms
036of student achievement again thanks to our magnificent faculty our incredible administrators dr shediak we were able to accomplish despite the pandemic despite the learning loss that many of our students experienced we were able to accomplish many of our goals and you can take a look at the goals that we accomplished there one of the most amazing goals that we accomplish and there's great a great deal of gratitude and commendations go out to miss burns from our preschool project before preschool program as well as mr naster who who assisted her at the time with it not only were we able to receive preschool expansion aid but they went ahead and they reached our preschool universe and what's amazing about that is when we began to receive preschool expansion aid everyone told us whether it's from the
037department of education or whether it was from other school districts there's no way in the world you're going to ever reach your preschool universe meaning there's no way in the world you're going to be able to educate every single three and four year old in your community well they don't know audrey burns and they don't know david nasser because they have reached that goal in three years um and we we have reached our preschool universe we're now in the in the process of just searching for three and four-year-olds that may not know about the program so that we can get them into our programs um we have a full school over at the cheesequake school an entire wing at the samsung upper elementary school and a wing at the salover school along with we have
038i believe 11 satellite classrooms in private preschools in the district so um that's an amazing goal uh one in which far exceeded our expectations so uh commendations and um gratitude go out to those people and of course we had the goal of creating an 18 to 21 year old program while you have not achieved that goal yet i can tell you that we're very close we are kind of pivoting now in terms of what we want to do originally originally we wanted to turn the salover school into an 18 to 21 year old program um but that was contingent upon us finding another school to lease for our preschool program wanted and you know despite our efforts in terms of trying to find something we decided to pivot and now we've turned our attention toward
039making salovers school a preschool and we actually toured property in sayerville right on washington road for what could potentially be our new 18 to 21 year old program it's located nestled in right next to a couple of businesses where our 18 to 21 year olds could work uh has great space for them to learn in and it's actually very close to public transportation which is another important skill that they will be learning during that program so although we haven't yet accomplished that i can tell you board members that we are this close to accomplishing that goal of starting that program in september of in terms of culture and climate you can see um that we were able to accomplish both of those goals the first two goals in the first slide one of the goals
040um we achieved and that was the um implementing strategies to reduce the number of students who identified as being chronically absent to be completely honest we did accomplish that but because of the pandemic i i suggest that those that data might be skewed we are continuing our efforts though this year to reduce the number of students that are chronically absent so that's a goal that while we recognize we achieved it we do also recognize that the pandemic may have skewed the results in our favor and then finally when it comes to developing a more diversified staff one that represents our student body in terms of demographic subgroups that's another area we've talked about this before that that we as a district are working very hard to try to achieve we have yet to achieve that
041but it is still a work in progress and one you'll see that we are continuing on to add as a goal in the upcoming school year looking ahead um you know and it's great that mr sayak was here today because if you're not aware of it everyone knows that we adopted a vision called vision 2030. what you may not know is the the vision 2030 um was an idea that came from the board of education led by mr sayak in the spring of 2014 and when mr sayak and the board then prior to me being hired developed this vision it was to ensure that the students who were then in kindergarten would be equipped with a hard and soft skills to be happy productive and contributing members of society once they graduate from college in
0422030 if you fast forward to today those then kindergarteners are now in the eighth grade so we now have only five years to prepare to do our job to prepare these kids for 2030 so we are actually in the process now of developing our final five-year strategic action plan for vision 2030. we actually held a board of education retreat in the months of july august and september to begin brainstorming goals we wanted to do an educational summit like we did several years ago but naturally due to the pandemic we couldn't do that so we decided to begin the process by having those board of education retreats where we brainstormed goals we had our administrative team review those goals and help us refine them and we'll be sending out soon sometime this month i'll be sending
043on a survey to the entire community asking members of this community that's all of our parents all of our teachers and faculty and support staff and some of our students to take a look at those goals prioritize those goals for us and add additional goals that they feel that we might have missed it is my hope that once receiving that survey data we'll be able to finalize the 2021-2026 final five-year vision 2030 strategic action plan so that we can ask the board of education to adopt it on november 16th however we did need to identify goals for this year so we took a look we took a look at the goals that we brainstormed about and that our administrative team looked at it and we identified goals that we wanted to accomplish from that those
044long lists of goals for this year so on slide 16 you'll see our 2021 2022 goals the first one is one that we wanted to do several years ago but because of the pandemic we couldn't and that's what for the board of education and the department of education to approve and adopt a new facilities improvement referendum for a potential vote in either september november or december and i know that our architects are hard at work at that right now i've been visiting pto meetings i will be visiting all ptos in the spring to discuss the referendum if we uh are fortunate to have this referendum passed we will then be able to provide air conditioning in every single room in every single school in this district and that's something that i know that many of
045our staff and many of our parents and many of our students have been asking for for quite some time so um you can look forward to seeing that we also want to secure funding for the remaining renovations and refurbishments of the salover school you'll see on the agenda tonight we're asking you to approve a bid that includes 166 thousand dollars for the refurbishments of the bathrooms there because it's going to become a preschool now we have to make sure that it's fitted perfectly in those bathrooms for our preschool students again as i mentioned previously we want to secure funding for and enter into a property a property lease for our 18 to 21 year old program that i referenced a moment ago we want to secure funding included but not limited to a five-year lease
046purchase agreement to pay for the construction of a new transportation complex we've purchased a number of buses we're going to continue to purchase more budgets buses but we cannot continue to locate those buses here at the high school for many reasons so we need to build a transportation complex and it is our goal to break ground on that transportation complex and this hillary hates when i say this by the fall of next year uh and finally we want to take the old garage that we've been using to repair our buses and we want to turn that um into a buildings and grounds complex and that's something that if you talk to our maintenance workers you talk to mr coleman's burger something that they've been asking for for a long time so those are very ambitious
047finance goals but goals in which i have the utmost confidence in miss hill's incredible financial talent to get us there uh in terms of facilities we want to replace current hv and hva systems in all large spaces i just mentioned it ago it is our goal by the end of this year that every single large space in every single school with the exception of the cheesecake school will either have a brand new hva system hvac system that's highly efficient or we're going to take the old one and replace it with a new one that's highly efficient again it's our goal to renovate and refurbish the solar school so that we can have it ready to open as a preschool in september and it's a goal as i've sent recently a moment ago too to renovate
048a newly leased property for an 18 to 21 year old program so that it too can open in september 2022. in terms of information and technology we want to install permanent wi-fi in in the at the exterior level at each school building in the district um you know one of the things that we you know parents express the concern and concerns about us is why can't we live stream football games why can't we live stream soccer games why can't we live stream graduation that occurs outside in the stadium and and the simple answer is we don't have the exterior wi-fi through the incredible genius of mr glock molloy and mr warranowicz they were able to rig something together very basic for graduation this past year so we could live stream graduation but we really do
049feel that we need exterior wi-fi all of our buildings one of the most important reasons why is all of our buses have wi-fi cameras so when they get to the school we need that wi-fi so they can operate off the wi-fi camera so that's very very important for us we want to develop and implement a district ransomware response plan we all hear about the horror stories about school districts and companies being held hostage by ransomware we need to develop a ransomware response plan that includes liability insurance coverage we want to similar to what we did with the campus security monitors we want to transition all of our current part-time technicians to full-time employees and we want to budget for an additional technology integration facilitator right now we have one technology integration facilitator mrs desantis who
050is amazing and she does a wonderful job and she's got more energy than 10 of me put together but we need more she needs help and we want to try to find a way to budget for at least one more this year and possibly another the next year we are going to be hiring and as you know board members there is a job description we revise the job description so soon after you revise that job description we will be pointing or asking you to appoint someone for the preschool but that would still only leave us with two so we definitely feel we need at least four at least three if not four total looking at student achievement you can see our goals there they're very ambitious um goals in terms of student achievement on slide
05120 where we introduced you goals in terms of programming we want to increase tier three academic and debate interventions at the high school we want to enhance or continue to enhance the academic vocational independent living and social emotional self-advocacy and determination skills of our students in the 18 to 21 year old program so again this is that goal that we said that we would return to as you can see throughout all of our goals this goal is mentioned now for the third time it's that important for us we want to continue to provide alternative literacy instruction we want to improve that and as i spoke earlier dr mr naster has gone ahead and entered into agreement with dr coombs so we're well on the way to that goal we want to continue to improve social
052emotional learning with that district-wide program that we have with effective school solutions as well as nj care and we want to implement a visual and performing arts and i know mrs bloom will be happy about that academy at the high school that's something that many of our staff members have been asking about and i know that one particular board member has been requesting for quite some time so as you know we have a business career academy we have a future educators career academy this year we implemented a stem academy and next year we want to implement a visual and performing arts academy in culture and climate we want to as i spoke about earlier one of the goals that we didn't accomplish we are going to again uh try to accomplish and that is to
053uh develop recruiting strategies so that we can uh increase this uh demographic subgroup representation of our staff so that it reflects our students we also want to you uh implement research proven effective programs for increasing demographic subgroups in our advanced placement honors talented and gifted programs as well as any other higher level courses in fact we had an incredible speaker that spoke to our faculty and staff during in september in services his name is patrick briggs he works for a company called avid and they have a program in which they work with students who might not be eligible at the time to enter into our advanced placement honors or accelerated learning classrooms but they have developed a program to prepare them for that so that we can continue to increase the number of students from
054different demographic subgroups in our accelerated learning programs and finally we want to implement strategies for expanding parental involvement engagement and education of their program of the school program as well as their child education particularly focusing on parents of students that speak english as a second language um you know we feel that when it comes to parental participation in a child's education it's the second most important factor in learning the number one factor in learning is of course the teacher but second to that is the level of involvement by the parents in the education of their children not only in the education of the children but in the education in in the whole school-wide program and we feel that we're missing a specific population of our parents because they don't speak english or because their children
055may not speak english well enough to communicate what is going on in school so we want to focus on that getting more of our parents that speak english as a second language or more parents of our english language learners involved in the education of their children as well as the entire school program those are our 2021-2022 goals um board of education members before i shift gears to dr shetiak any questions from me for me on anything that i have discussed all right i've couple just notes kudos throwback tuesday i guess mr macanone right for this rotc program i mean the board approved it but i thought before he left the board he fought for 10 years to get this program in here right and uh well where it's paying dividends these kids are great kids
056and the instructors are terrific right absolutely yeah we love it so great job uh marilyn since we have one-to-one devices now are we gonna start getting away from the traditional textbooks little by little or is that we we actually are most of the textbooks that we the new textbooks that we're buying now right if we buy class sets and then we buy digital licenses which are good for um usually about five years so that students can access it but there are hard copies of the books in the classroom but they're not meant to be taken home by the students so that's how we're purchasing most of our textbooks at this point great thank you and just one other thing just i mean really and truly aaron awesome i mean you know i've said this before
057meetings so it's you know we do this with smoke and mirrors half the time you know very limited in funds for all these projects i mean i think that the last retreat was five years ago four years ago and every one of those were hit each year we hit our goals and they're not like they're lofty goals they're not set to you know guarantee a win and uh i just want to say really awesome job i mean great admin team great job and i know every one of them for next year you're going to nail right so yeah no pressure but really awesome i mean i i just want to make similar comments uh to anthony that this is this is an impressive extremely impressive set of achievements not only for kobe year for any
058year i mean you know some you know reading it now and hearing it in the audience i'm sure you can you can gloss over a little bit but this is a pretty amazing uh achievements you know it's it's it's easy to talk about things like equity and stuff but then when you see a i've always said our pre-k program free pre-k going in now we have kids regardless of their their financial situation or getting to start school at three uh you know i think we're gonna see those gaps that we've had that we've been turning up for shrink because of that when we're going to an 18 to 21 school uh you know you're going to see our kids with disabilities have more opportunities more opportunities to get into the workplace and you know like
059they would say education is a great equalizer and we're we're offering more of it to more students now i mean and that should be the idea at the end of the day and i i just want to say it's not lost on on the board especially some of the stuff we heard today our teachers our principal our administrators our bus driver our admit you know our administration staff here an amazing job in a in a cover year in any year this would be an amazing job but that we did it with some of the strains and i think as a board member i was a little ignorant of how much strain was being put on from the state to our administrators how much data collection they have uh you know eric lac molloy is one
060of the smartest guys we have and his home job has almost become covent so as resources get taken away other people are stepping up and filling up jobs and you know again i think as a board of education i know i'm super grateful to to all our staff here and all our workers and i just want to say and you know we know we're doing it to you again these goals are not easy goals like anthony mentioned these are lofty goals and i i think it's important to know we're keeping them high because we have to push forward we you know we are not unfortunately i i just hope this gets across to everybody we're sympathetic we are to the amount of work and we understand what's being asked of everybody but these are our
061kids you know these are kids of our community and we have to continue to to to serve them well and um thank you for for stepping up and doing that because this is this is you know outstanding uh job in my opinion so i just wanted to say thank you to everybody in the in the cerebral district it's a team effort and it's a it's a great job and um dr labbe you know you deserve a lot of credit for your leadership everything here is uh you know reflects your leadership and honestly reflects uh our commitment i think to the students of uh of cerebral so keep it up keep it up we're gonna keep pushing you know it's it's hard and we understand it's hard we understand what everybody's going through but you guys
062really stepped up in a hard time so thank you that's it anybody else dr okay so the next portion of the state of schools is about standardized assessment results we're required by the state to report to the board in public about standardized assessment results now last year because of the pandemic we did not have very many standardized assessments so i don't have as many results to report on as we have in the past however the first assessment i'm going to talk about is access for ells now access for ells is a system that is designed to monitor how our english language learners are progressing in learning academic english it's a little hard to see up there on the slide but students are assessed in the areas of listening speaking reading writing oral language literacy and
063comprehension and then they receive an overall score and the score can range anywhere from a one to a six in each of the components now the students in order to exit the ell program as they if they achieve a score of 4.5 they can exit the program so last year we actually had 130 students who were assessed on this test we had 177 students in the program but only 130 were assessed because the students had to be in person to be assessed and i'm very happy to say that 13 of our students qualified through this assessment to exit the program that was actually 10 of the students who took the test which is the highest passing rate we have had in at least five years so that's very impressive considering the um conditions under which
064we we were working so um that's we actually have this year in ell we have a total of 254 students and we expanded the ell program to our preschool where we have 51 students but k-12 we've increased almost 30 students this year and in our el population those students speak 27 different languages and so this program has grown enormously in 200 in 2016 we had 122 students in the program so just to give you an idea of where we're going with this and some of the needs of our students okay so the next assessment that we did administer last year was the dynamic learning maps the dlm and the dlm is designed for students with the most severe cognitive disabilities who would not be able to take the regular state assessments even with accommodations so
065it's a way for these students to demonstrate what they know and they can do in math science and language arts and it's a computer computer adaptive process so it changes based on how well the students score on a section and then it moves forward with that so um happy to say in english language arts 33 of our students we're at target or advanced 69 in math and 5 in science s.a.t scores very very pleased with the results for the sats this year we hit an all-time high in both the verbal and the math portion of the sats we our um verbal portion was the average score was up from 40 the previous year and um the math was up to 572 from 5 50 the year before i have to ask i'm sorry to interrupt
066you but i have to ask you something so and again i come as you as an uh come at you as a non-educator but in in a year and a half of all the experts saying we're losing ground these kids will never learn make up what they didn't learn et cetera et cetera how are these this is this is a hard test is it the same test they've always given because our numbers are going up right in a year you think it would go down as far as i know it it was the same assessment okay um i i'd like to say it's through through the hard work and everything i concur no i do i concur just an odd year to go up that's all yeah it's been steadily increasing you know last year
067was actually a little bit lower than the previous year so um i'm sorry i didn't mean to interrupt you i just i just thought it was interesting no right an odd year we came off of them we'll take it yes and we're far above the state average yes and considerably above the state average i mean 10 points above on the verbal and 32 above on the now so i i'd like to say it's a result of what we've been doing over the past several years hopefully it'll continue to bear out um ap comparisons now that this is an area where we did not experience an increase we actually decreased these scores um however many of these students the vast majority of these students were not in school we know the rate of our high school
068students who attended school was low and these students took the assessment at home the year before we saw a large increase in the rap scores but that was a modified test that was given to the students in 2020 so in 2021 they went back to the test that they'd normally given and most of these students took it at home and most of them had not been present in school okay so um we did have an increased enrollment in our ap courses we went up on 31 students additional in the ap courses last year and we had a significantly higher number of exams than the previous year in previous years it was an all-time high for both of those okay um just something else which we just found out today because we just received all of
069the um applications back you know we do a dual enroll enrollment program with middlesex county college and also with ryder university for tomorrow's teachers course we have a total of 13 courses that are dual enrollment where students can all can earn college credit at the same time that they're getting they're completing their high school course this year we have 330 applications for dual enrollment last year it was 268 the year before it was 151. so we do have many students who are going that route also to earn college credit while they're still here in high school so looking back some of the initiatives that we went through last year that contributed to these assessment results you know we implemented fonteson panel classroom in fourth grade benchmark assessment systems um envision math was in grade six
070a new math program in grade seven we started our the high school stem academy we added asi math teachers in the elementary schools we did newsela at the high school we expanded cte programs at the high school we trained 134 teachers in sheltered instruction to support our english language learners regular classroom teachers and we implemented benchmark assessments in grades 1 through 12. so some of the things we're working on this year and we've actually started to work on already fontis and pinell classroom the reading system in grade 5 shared reading materials in our elementary schools new science techs at the middle school dr labby mentioned summer accelerated learning camp at camp excel expanded credit recovery opportunities of both the middle school and high school we did an ap boot camp this summer for our advanced
071placement classes we we're expanding the math and literacy academies this year the tier three interventions we are working on the high school visual and art visual and performing arts academy as dr laby mentioned the grade 8 rotc program which is a pilot it's an after school program for 8th graders we have unified electives at the middle school and we're working hard on new and revised curriculum great i have one other question if i could pat danielle and i met recently with some community leaders and one of their biggest questions and i couldn't answer it because it's i waited for you because this is up your up your alley they want to know if we can expand the college credits to not they know about ryder and middlesex but they want to know about rutgers specifically
072are we looking to do with to expand this to other colleges or we i don't know if rutgers i don't believe that has a duel in rome they don't even know a lot of schools do not the community colleges tend to be the primary schools that do that ryder does it um for tomorrow's teachers right but um i rutgers does not do it okay okay thank you any other questions for dr shady good job excellent job okay so i i failed to include miss hill's presentation in my slideshow presentation but everybody should have an individual handout of the 2020 and we provided copies of that for the board too of the 2022-2023 budget development calendar so mrs hill is going to review that view right now um yeah so our 2022-23 budget development calendar kicks
073off tonight with dr lobby's state of the school's address many of the things in this presentation tonight will be incorporated into our budget for the 22-23 school year right now in district our administrators are beginning to work on their budgets for the 22-23 school year and they'll have them completed and submitted to central administration by december 10th of 2021 in our financial accounting software at central administration we'll then review it and finalize a balanced preliminary budget and submit it to the board of education january 14th of 2022 we'll begin our presentations on december 21st 2021 with food services um we will then have our board of ed reorganization meeting on january 4th which will not have any presentations on the budget and then following that we have our dates that we anticipate the board will
074be meeting in the 22 2022 calendar year so january 14th i'm sorry january 18th would be our schools and curriculum and instruction presentations february 1st would be special education and athletics february 15th would be buildings and grounds capital projects and transportation and march 1st would be our final presentation for the administrators to come which would be technology after that on march 15th the board will um will submit the final preliminary budget to the board um which the board will vote on and then on april 26 we'll have our public hearing and the adoption of the final budget and that's it okay looks great any questions on the dates or content thank you myself and that concludes my presentation great job really okay let's um we'll call mr uh balka let's have some board discussion on
075finance and infrastructure sir our last meeting was held at samsung school on october 12th we started with a walkthrough and saw the items that the principal and vice principal alike addressed these included the installation of additional doors into the cafeteria drainage improvements near door number 15 spot repaving and pothole repairs installation of fire connections on steroid doors to help with the flow of student traffic installation or replacement of some exterior lighting and the creation of an outdoor learning area in the courtyard those are the main items but they would also like to replace smart boards with flat panels place the ceiling tiles in the gym replace windows and screens update the patio area between the gym and cafeteria pink preschool classrooms replace the media center carpeting repair gutter and trim near door number seven replace
076repair fencing around the dumpsters and would like to purchase project adventure materials and apparatus we were then updated on esa projects with not much to report since last meeting and then we're given updates on the infra infrastructure projects the high school gym hvac contractor was given to us to respond within seven days to our request to complete the project it was reported that we'll have varies that will have the various boilers up and running by the time that we need them we spoke about the awarding of the slover bathroom project at that time the idea of converting slover to a dedicated preschool was brought up along with moving the various administrative offices from slover to samsung the slover preschool conversion could utilize preschool expansion aid funds as well in finance we had auctioned off six
077of our old buses and it looks like we received just under eight thousand dollars in bids for them also speaking about buses it looks like dorm will be banning some of their routes and offered to lease us the buses so we can run those routes ourselves but the terms at least needs to be reviewed and finally on the agenda you'll notice that the june and july financials are being reapproved because figures have changed based on some grant adjustments that's great thank you mr bob any questions for mr you know if i may dr lobby i meant to ask this during your presentation um you know how we offer if a teacher wants to have their child come to our school we offer half tuition if we have seats in our preschool is there any way
078we can offer that to our student teachers or staff no they don't allow that because we are being we are being reimbursed for by the state for those seats we can't do that okay gotcha is it it'd be nice that if you can bring it up but somehow i mean is there any seats you know and we've we've discussed it yeah the state has been firm with us that you can't do that okay well thank you appreciate it thank you dan uh mr wall street personnel meet we met earlier today it was a brief meeting we just discussed the um vacancies that we've been filling in the the school year and uh dr aguiles and the staff are doing a great job terrific thank you any questions on personnel from mr wolfe okay let's move
079it up to mrs bloom from middlesex county school boards association she is the president okay we had our first meeting uh it was a hybrid meeting and our own jonathan bush did a presentation on the relationship between the superintendent and the board um there are some districts that have issues not this one but there are some um dare i say dictatorial superintendents and board presidents who don't share with their board we share a lot i think we share too much sharing is caring yes so we don't have that issue but it was a rather heated meeting i won't bore you with the details but we got through it and we will do better next time our next meeting is going to be on november 22nd again at pierre's a lot of the things that came
080up were you know how do we deal with the social and emotional learning of our kids you know because of the pandemic what do we do for their mental health but as you see in our presentation we're already doing that so there are other districts that are not so we are once again head and shoulders above the crowd the other big problem of course for everyone was bus drivers and the question went out are some districts offering incentives and are they offering to pay their bus drivers more so i sent a question out to all of my county uh board presidents and i'm waiting to get feedback from them so that's about it for uh our meeting look forward to the next one i thought the meeting went really well i mean i went in
081and out a little bit but i thought jonathan did a great job yes jonathan did a great job he did have a hater on on there but we took care of that yeah she did yes you did many emails flowed and the mute button worked i i couldn't do it but only one healing for a lawyer is not a baby that's not bad so yeah if you don't stop talking when we say stop talking then yes we have to mute you everyone needs a chance to speak it's only fair okay thank you any questions for mrs bloom i know there were a few of us at that meeting so a couple some there and some virtual but always she does a good job every uh every meeting that i've been to uh mr fernandez what
082do you got for uh the south amboy rotary and sayerville saberville and south amboy rotary excuse me before before i move on to the to the rotary presentation it's it's my sad duty to announce to you the passing of one of our own mr arthur dicatano mr catano was a school teacher of ours teaching math for over 36 years serving our community he taught in the middle school for those of us that are old enough the junior high i ask that we all keep him and his family and our prayers and we ask for him from for a moment of silence thank you the rotary is proud to announce that we're moving forward with the local heroes two two very worthy candidates from sarah will have been selected marianne gordon president of the cerebral association
083for brain inner children she leads an organization that serves some of our most vulnerable children with with with brain injuries also being awarded is sue paul from the cereal care and food bank addressing the in the food the food and security needs of our community i'd like to thank them both and i look forward to their presentation on november 19th thank you terrific thank you mr fernandez anybody have any questions for mr fernandez okay uh it's not on our agenda i don't believe but uh mrs kenney has uh student achievement i do so we met on september 28th it was a brief meeting but some of the main topics we discussed were curriculum updates as um dr labbe said there are a number of revised curriculum guides that are under review um they're going to
084be presented for approval from the board and they include ap history 2 sculpture and ceramics introduction to engineering and several high school music courses we talked about standardized assessments the start strong assessment was administered earlier this month and they are currently doing makeup testing and the nj sla is scheduled to return for april and may of 2022 back to school night was held virtually the two i'm sorry there were pre-recorded videos that were released to parents on wednesday september 29th and they will remain accessible through the school websites this will allow parents and students to refer to the information throughout the school year i think that was a big success i think parents are grateful for that information it's easy access for for the entire year we discussed the talented and gifted program since students
085did not take the njsla that component had to be removed from the scoring matrix so it now includes a cognitive skills assessment end of the year benchmark scores from linkit a creativity test and teacher reading we do anticipate that the njsla will be included as part of the criteria for next year and literacy and math academies will be offered to eligible students in grades one through eight and tier three tutoring in grades k-12 and we are meeting again next tuesday great thank you guys do a good job in that committee i mean you had another academy right this year for next year i mean you guys do a good job you know you don't just rest on your laurels you keep moving ahead it's easy really you do well we have a fearless leader yes
086of course i know absolutely any questions for miss kenny okay hearing none this time we'll open it up to the public for agenda items only you like to come up and say something or if anyone's online eric no one's online doesn't look like anybody wants to comment okay we'll close public excuse me dr lobby give a presentation sir okay if i can bring your attention to finance numbers 24 and 25 which you can find on page four we're asking you uh to approve the amendment um actually let me say that over again we're actually to amend the award for the bit of renovation to the hvac upgrades it's all over school to uni temp incorporated as the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of one million nine hundred and forty thousand dollars for the base
087bid 356 thousand dollars for the alternate bid and 166 dollars for the alternate bid for another alternate bid for a total bid amount of two million four hundred and sixty two thousand five hundred dollars and i referenced earlier that um we went ahead and did this so that uh we could have that 166 thousand five hundred dollars to refurbish the bathrooms at the silver school so if you notice on number 26 um or actually later uh on number 25 we're asking you to withdraw that money from capital reserve so that we can go ahead and begin to renovate those bathrooms number 26 which you can find on page four we're asking you to award the bid for the window replacements at the truman elementary school to the grazo schemica company as the lowest responsible glitter
088in the amount of 446 000 and the base bid of 12 000 and the total bid of 458 thousand dollars number 42 which you can find in the addendum we're asking you to approve the acceptance of funding from the federal commission uh communications commission uh under the energy connectivity funding program in the amount of six hundred and fifty five thousand nine hundred and thirty three dollars it's cute and 15 cents uh number 47 you know we've been having a difficult time finding substitutes and one of the ways in which we think that we might be able to attract more substitutes to the district is by increasing our rates we haven't increased our rate in quite some time for our substitutes so we're asking you to approve the revision of our class one class two and
089class three substitute rate it's basically ten dollars more per day and number 48 we're asking you to approve a contract with macronet for a 48-month lease of konica minolta copiers and i ask you to please take note uh it's listed there the konica 750i copiers the the number is incorrect it shouldn't be five it should be ten so board members if you could please do me a favor and make a friendly revision to your agenda again the konica 750i copiers that number should be 10 and not 5. and finally number 49 which i'm very excited about we're asking you to approve a trip for 12 students and 5 teachers from both the middle school and the high school to attend what's called the day of dialogue at the um new jersey ed services commission conference
090center piscataway one of the ways in which we are increasing diversity equity and inclusion is by getting our young people out giving them a chance to dialogue about some of the things that are going on in their world particularly those things that involve equity and human relations and so forth so it's a very very powerful day for our students and our staff and it's one of the strategies that we've incorporated to increase equity inclusion um and diversity within our our student programs and i can't thank mr glahuski as well as mr rubino and mr cola and our support staff and faculty that will be attending this um this very very important date so we're looking forward to that and i'm looking forward to hearing about how the students felt about going to the to the
091activity as well as our staff members any questions on finance and infrastructure uh yes dr lobby on number 42 the um money from the federal communications commission what is that going to be uh going to improve eric aaron you want to help me with that i certainly can so ecf funds are basically a new federal funding source where families that self-identified that they don't have a device at home separate from our one-to-one program so our eight to twelve students wouldn't be eligible for this but our pre-k through seven would if they indicate that they don't have a device at home an individual device per student the federal government is releasing funding to provide a device that goes home as a district device and still comes back to us but it stays home for the purpose
092of academic work oh that's great okay thank you and my next question i guess is for aaron the chronicle copiers are we how are our copies going aaron because i remember they were always on big problems yes that was several years ago we had issues with a lot of our pop years so several years ago actually four years ago we changed to canon top years i don't think we've had any issues with that with these tonic minolta it is a new kind of copier and our technology team looked at it and they're okay with the change it's still going to be centralized printing what we have now where employees can scan their badge and print from whatever copier that they want to go to but in addition to replacing the canons which they were on
093a fair market value lease which ends this month in addition to that the last savage that we still had in the district are going to be replaced as well and it's going to save us about 28 000 a year fabulous great thank you once again genius any more questions or comments with regards to anything on finance and infrastructure i have a question dr lobby about um numbers 24 and 25 um for the renovations at um at slover is that contingent on the lease of the other building for the 18 to 21 no it is not no so so but renovating the bathrooms would be a different i know the bathrooms need to be renovated regardless but they would be the work would be different i assume if it's going to be correct yeah we're committed
094it's going to be a preschool i'm sorry it's going to be a preschool so no matter what i mean um i i never like to think negative i think that we're going to find property to lease for the 18 to 21 year old program i'm hoping it's the one that we're very close to um being able to lease but if not we'll find another place for it we are locked into the slover school becoming that preschool okay any other questions i just have one comment is it possible that the administrative team and some of the students that go on the field trip to come back and tell us what they've uh how it was and what they you know i can't i can ask mr husky and mr rubino to um maybe come in and
095enjoy they're probably there right now thinking oh i got to go to another sorry guys but maybe to come in with one or two of the staff members and one or two of the students to give a little bit of a report on um the day and how it went yeah good idea thank you okay okay moving along to student achievement um i just have one uh for one that i want to highlight um we're asking you to approve uh a baggage club uh aka i believe cornhole um at the high school for the 2021-2022 school year and i i can't thank um miss annette and mr taylor enough for agreeing to be advisors for that so um i'm very interested to see how that goes and actually stop by and play a little corn
096hole as in throwing the little bag in the whole beanbag oh i was wondering yeah i think it's bag i think that's what bag it was but yeah yeah okay see yeah and yeah we have about 100 kids signed up for any questions or comments on anything on student achievement um no but i do want to thank publicly those two teachers who are doing this um on their own time so thank you very much great moving along to governance we have quite a few things for you to for me to highlight that we're asking you to prove first and foremost um as you know we're switching our format to our board of education policy bylaws and regulations manual we're moving over to the straus esme model so um they went ahead and they basically copied
097all of our policies and regulations and bylaws and they actually updated anything that needed to be updated so we're asking you it's kind of unorthodox but we're asking you to approve the entire revised manuals for bylaws policies and regulations for first reading tonight and we'll ask you to approve them for a second reading during our meeting in november i have posted these on the website so that people at home can view them if they'd like i provided lucy with a box um because that's what it is the the manuals are that thick um so if you if you would like to um see them in paper copy fashion too as soon as lucy's done with them we can we can ship that box over to your home too the box is this sticker there's three
098manuals each one is like eight inches thick and the great thing about strauss esme is they will send us monthly alerts any any policies regulations and so forth that need to be revised they'll they'll let us know in terms of an alert they are all attorneys that work for strauss esme so they're constantly writing and revising board of education bylaws policies and regulations as they may change uh remember a question about that sure are we gonna so when they give us the revisions obviously it'll be highlighted in yellow we'll see what's updated or changed oh with these policies is there is there any way they can put in maybe in red any changes they've made or things they've deleted cross through them it's too too much to do that mr pedo yeah as they were
099going i thought just software would do that yeah okay so no way could could you guys maybe point out any any style you may be talking about it soon but any real important changes yeah we can definitely do it and and by the way if there's if there's anything that we feel that we want to revise after you guys go ahead and approve them for second readings we can do that thank you so once that's done we'll be meeting regularly as a governance committee we haven't met for a while because we've been trying to transition over but as soon as this transition process um finalizes as a governance committee we'll be meeting monthly now to go over all the alerts and all the revisions and so forth that we need to make uh number three
100you can find it on page 15 we're asking you to appl approve the 2021-2022 district public employees occupational safety and health program indoor air quality plan and i can't thank mr coleman enough for authoring the plan that is also posted on our website not only in the board of education meeting section but on the buildings and ground section of the website as it is supposed to be numbers four and five which you can find on page 15 we're asking you to approve the 2021-2022 district goals that i reviewed earlier as well as the 2022-2023 budget calendar budget development calendar that ms hill reviewed with you and numbers six and seven we're asking you to approve uh one revised and one very new job description and you can find that on page 16 and the addendum
101and the the one new job description is the health and medical data management specialist you know mr walsh made reference to mr glock malloy in terms of covet contact contract tracing has been his full-time job and it really has but the amount of contact tracing that department of education and the department of health is expecting school districts to do and moreover the amount of information they're expecting school districts to report to them on a weekly basis is just out of control and it's overburdening our nurses our building administration and mr glock malloy and as you all know we have a grant that we're eligible for the american rescue plan elementary secondary education relief fund it's it's five point i believe 5.7 million dollars we want to allocate monies from that to pay for this uh
102health and medical data management specialist for this year and for next year because the grant covers all the way to september 2023. our nurses our building administrators and mr glockman lloyd they need relief um and we need someone that is knowledgeable of medical records medical information immunizations vacuum vaccinations all those types of things as well as someone that is very proficient with software so that they can collect the information and report the information to the department of health and the new jersey department of ed and if you're not aware of it the department of health is now requiring us on a weekly basis to report not only covet cases but any communicable disease cases including the flu and it's it's something i think that they've been wanting to do for years and covet now is
103giving them the ability to do so but it is overburdening our building administrators who have many things to do during the day as in and our nurses who are seeing kids as they normally would we have full buildings now of children and um to ask these people to continue to do what they're doing is just going to burn them out and that's why we need this person as i mentioned earlier too we'll also be sending a substitute nurse to all of our schools within the district to provide them some relief so they can get some of the other work that they need to get done because they are overwhelmed right now have we ever thought of and not this job of course this is high level have you ever thought about bringing high school kids
104in and paying them to do some basic data entry and clerical work it would be a violation they would be the person that we need has to be able to collect highly you know confidential information we can't do that we talked about that before when it came to filling out things for maybe uh older citizens and so forth we can't violate either ferpa rights or hipaa rights so we need someone and we also need someone this is a position we're we're in which we need someone that is knowledgeable about medical records uh health information has experience in that field in fact if you look at the job description it's not required but we would prefer a nurse and we're certainly looking for someone that has an undergraduate degree in public health and possibly even a
105graduate degree in it that's the level of knowledge and expertise we're looking for so although it's a good idea mr esposito and it will give our kids some great experience and we do have our public health club here at the high school it's just something we couldn't do gotcha thanks any questions on anything from governance yeah dr lobby on see number two the the bylaws and the policies i did my best looking through them i think i noticed two mistakes is that something i should bring out to you now no you can bring that to me um afterwards that we can fix it yeah absolutely thank you dan anything else okay and finally personnel if i can bring your attention there on page 16 number one um we have again one of those bittersweet moments
106where we have to say goodbye to a beloved staff member this time it's florence berman our amazing business teacher from saver war memorial high school who will be leaving our district effective january 1st 2022. mrs florence boermann was a saver of obama for 17 years and will always be a saver of a bomber mrs berman brought industry experience to the classroom she bridged the gap between traditional teaching methodologies and the application of industry knowledge in the classroom she helped students understand the link between theory and practice and to better and to better prepare them for the future she has a vocation for teaching as well as an acumen for business her passion mood creativity and enthusiasm in the classroom make her an exceptional teacher she always knew how to enter how to interest students and
107emphasize how important it was for them to keep their interest in business and finance mrs berman was also involved in extra extracurricular activities for cerebral war memorial high school as she served as the distributive education uh clubs of america advisor for over eight years and inspired national business honor society students as well she played an instrumental role in bringing the bomber exchange school store to fruition which is something we're all incredibly proud of and indebted to her for she um while she's certain well she deserves to enjoy every minute of her retirement mrs berman will be greatly missed by the staff and students at cerebral war memorial high school on behalf of the entire saver war memorial high school family they thank her for her services and they wish her all her best in her
108retirement and on a personal level believe it or not it is a small world um i actually worked with mrs berman when i was an assistant principal at john p stevens high school in edison at the time um she had a child in the high school and she was on the pto i think there were only like three members three parents on the pto there and as the assistant principal one of my responsibilities was to go to the pto meetings and be the liaison to the school for the pto meetings and i developed and immediately developed a friendship with mrs berman if you know mrs berman you love her she has such enthusiasm and back then as a pto um i think she was president of the pto she had this incredible enthusiasm for the
109kids and she did she showed off that business um expertise that she had in terms of fundraising and doing all kinds of incredible things with just a small member membership of her pto so she she made such a a strong impression on me not only as a person but as a leader and as a leader in business and industry and one of my greatest surprises when i came here as superintendent she walked up to me said dr lappy and i'm like mrs berman it was incredible i i had no knowledge of her leaving the business industry and becoming a teacher and it had been 18 17 so many years since i last saw her it was it was a delight and i have to say this as great of an experience as it was for
110me to work with her in that capacity it was far better in terms of working with her alongside of her as an educator in this district um she truly is one of the most inspiring child-centered thoughtful and very very um master uh masterful um educators that i've ever had the opportunity and privilege to work with so um she's gonna be sadly missed by everybody at the high school across the district uh and especially by me however we wish her nothing but the very best in her retirement and we can't thank her enough for all that she did for this high school our school district and most importantly the students that she served so impeccably for 17 years i'd also like to bring your attention to numbers 12 and 13 as well as 38 and 39
111which you can find on pages 19 and 22 in the addendum we're asking you to appoint new um new certificated and non-certificated staff as well as number 15 and 16 and number 40 which you can find on pages 21 and 22 as well as the addendum we're asking you to prove the transfer of non-certificated staff for the 2021-2022 school year numbers 22 and 23 as mr naster does um three three or four times a year we're asking you to approve personnel for unified sports you can find that on page 24. and as dr shadiak talked about in terms of the expansion of these services on numbers 24 and 25 which you can find on pages 25 and 28 we're asking you to approve staff for elementary and middle school math and literacy academies as well
