suspected. Andy, we good? >> All right. Again, thank you for coming back. Appreciate everyone being here. Uh, do we have any board correspondence this evening? Okay, great. Um, although there are two star committee reports, personnel was a executive session report. So, what we have tonight is an education committee. Janine, please. >> Yes. The education committee met on April 1st 4 pm. Uh in attendance was myself, Mr. Bernberg, Miss Lee, Mr. Risersford, Miss Trump, Dr. JW, Mr. Schultz, Dr. Carol, and Mr. Lober. Um for a testing update, Dr. Judah and Dr. Lober thanked Mr. Dlesio and Mr. Maluso, the IT team, and the BNG department for the outstanding work they did during testing. Testing went smoothly and was successful due to their efforts. Thank you very much. Uh, scheduling update. Dr. Labbera informed the committee that
scheduling process is on schedule. Sectioning meetings begin after spring break and adjustments for student requests to alternates for courses not running not running schedules. U or about May 4th, the master schedule for the following year is developed. Uh, articulation walks with the middle schools are ongoing most recently for ELA. Upcoming learning walks are scheduled for the arts department in April. Dr. Jud shared that she and the K through eight superintendent discussed developing a shared articulation document for each content area for grades 7 through 9. Additionally, we are hoping to plan shared PD for the seventh through 9th grade teachers along with the K through 12 world language and the arts during our October PD day. Followup to the feasibility study. Dr. Would you have provided a followup on the feasibility study which found differences in
the implementation of articulation? The study discovered differences in the amount of time on core subjects, common assessments of resources and instructional time across districts. It emphasized the importance of coordination of the structure between districts. The committee discussed the study findings and suggested board members speak at board meetings in their districts of the importance of articulation between districts. Um just for some upcoming events, uh April 15th, tomorrow, is World Language Honor Society induction ceremony and seal of biiteracy. April 19th, play unifor color run. April 22nd is a steam fair. April 23rd is the Dr. Dante memorial ceremony. April 24th is our junior prom and April 27th to May 1st is arts week. And there will be various events. Uh we We ended our meeting at 4:37 p.m. Any questions? >> Sorry about the typo that was
there. >> Thank you. >> Okay, great. Thank you. Uh the first public comment period will be limited to agenda items for this meeting only. The second public period opened five minutes. Do we have any comments with regard to our agenda items? Great. Seeing none, we'll close the first public comment. Shortly more discussion with regard to future action items. >> Yeah, I'm actually glad you just mentioned that because that was one of the things that came up at ED committee was I had um written something up. So, I really kind of just echoed what it talked about in the feasibility study about the importance of articulation and some of the noticings. And so, there's a copy of that in your board folders. But, I think as long as the, you know, the board is okay with
this being representative of just on the importance of the coordination with the K8 that then if members wanted to visit the K8 board meetings, you know, Catherine had brought this up, which I think was a great idea to speak to this. So, I'm fine with that. It's really up to the board, you know, to kind of authorize that it come from the board. >> Janine and I had shut you down on talking about that. Would you like to comment about this? >> No, no, I should have mentioned that it was in the packet for us to use, but no, it um it's totally up to everybody. We were just kind of came up with a general statement so that you know just to bring it to the attention of the K through8. So, I'm sure
they have already know about it. It's been mentioned several times. So, >> right. And again, just to reiterate articulation. This is something we've discussed on numerous occasions in shared services. It was discussed there as well. So there's nothing new. It's really just to help our students from the four districts when they come to our school here that they're lack of a better term on the same page so that we can keep it all going versus having to get everyone up to speed at different levels. Just makes it a little more difficult for our staff, even the fellow students. Well, I I think we're all in agreement in agreement with respect to discussion with the fellow board members as a consensus. I don't know if we have to formally adopt this. I think it's just like
needs to agree that >> does anyone have a problem with this statement? >> That's not what I do. >> I was just going to say we could just say this is a recommendation. We don't have to come at it like hardcore, you know, >> right? But I mean I think there's a softer way to say it. Not when you not when you started >> that's 70 years. >> Oh my sorry. >> Okay. >> Catherine I think you just want a clarification that if you go to speak at a board meeting you can say I am a hill board member not I am a president of watch and I'm sharing this but I'm a watch member. >> Absolutely. No one's obligated to do it, but if you do it, that's great. >> Hopefully not as long
as from 1957 to more than welcome to go to one of your board meetings. Just to reiterate, just in case to reiterate, so the board members get it, super gets it, and then anyone in attendance gets it. But again, it's nothing new and they should have what we've been saying for a while. Okay. Uh any other discussion A1 through A91 >> Mr. Decker. >> Yes. >> Miss Farski. >> Yes. >> Miss Lee. >> Yes. >> Miss Potter. >> Yes. >> Miss Proa. >> Yes. >> Mford. >> Yes. >> Mr. Roente. >> Miss Trump. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burnber. >> Yes. We move through A8. Sorry. Oh, A4 A5 A6 A7 A4 to >> Mr. Decker. >> Yes. >> Morski. >> Yes. >> Miss Lee. >> Yes. >> Miss Proa. >> Yes. >> Miss Rexford. >>
Yes. >> Mr. Rede. >> Miss Trump. Mr. Berber. >> Yes. >> C. >> Mr. Decker. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rosmer. >> Yes. >> Miss Lee. >> Yes. >> Miss Potter. >> Yes. >> Miss Prosa. >> Yes. >> M. Rexford. >> Yes. >> Mr. Dente. >> Yes. >> M. Trumpour. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burnber. >> Yes. discussion on those. >> Mr. Decker, >> yes. >> Miss Ferriski, >> yes. >> Miss Lee, >> yes. >> Miss Potter, >> yes. >> Miss Proa, >> yes. >> Miss Rexford, >> yes. >> Mr. Roente, >> yes. >> Mr. Trump, >> yes. >> Mr. Burber, yes. >> Okay, great. Thank you everybody. Okay. Wow, that was fast. Now we're second opportunity for public comment. Again, this is an opportunity to speak publicly u any district. Uh if you have something to
say, I can see there's a lot of people anxious. Please come on up. State your name, where you're from, and speak your piece. Come on up. >> Hi, my name is Chloe from this partner. We are both juniors attending. I speak today to respectfully advocate for new policies that would shift this high school start time by 30 minutes to an hour. Recently, I learned from my newly established neuroscience class, the detrimental effects of lack of sleep. New Jersey has long been recognized for it public school system and education, and I am confident that aligning school schedules with established scientific research on adolescent development would further strengthen that standard. The academy, the American Academy of Pediatrics states that Chronic sleep loss in children adolescence is associated with increased risk of obesity, diabetes, injuries, poor mental health,
and attention and behavior problems. Additionally, Kyla Lashtorm and colleagues found that students at schools with later start times obtained more sleep and reported less depressive symptoms, illustrating the safety of students and their education further can further be insured by the change. Whilst I understand that complications of a larger district reconstruction, we can take inspiration from schools such as Bridgewater. already implemented this change to start at 8:00 to better support their students wellbeing. We currently have an ongoing and growing petition with over 100 parent and student signatures. I also plan to present this issue to the state legislator but hope that the school can adapt to changes as state action. >> Thank you. Are there any additional comments on any subject? Anybody? Okay, then I will close the second round of public comment. Is there any
other business people like discuss? If I may, I just wanted well actually first I want to thank the two students for taking the time to come to a board meeting and share your research. I truly appreciate that and if you want to share with me um that way I can share with the board in writing what you came to speak about. Um I would welcome if you to email it to me that would be great. So thank you so much and I'm glad that we should share with the K8 districts. >> Absolutely. Yeah. But thank you so much. Um, I also just want to take a moment. So, the man behind the camera at all of our meetings, who also happens to be our network manager here, Mr. Andy B, um, is going to be
leaving us shortly as he has found a tremendous opportunity in the private sector. Um, Andy has been here, he started a little bit before I did, so a little over 13 years, correct? and he has grown so tremendously in his role and grown his role in terms of um the the capacity of our IT department and I've worked very closely with Andy on a lot of things because whenever we've wanted to do something with the website or I've gotten an idea to make a video for something or change something um Andy has really run with it and he is so responsive and you know as everyone knows in 13 years our IT department hasn't grown but it has grown So they have taken on a lot more responsibility and a lot more challenges. And so
Andy, I just I tremendously appreciate all that you have done for the district, for me um personally and my role as superintendent um and really a lot that you've brought and the creativity really that you've brought to the role and to a lot of the um things that you've put in place that will continue >> especially during the co time. >> So absolutely absolutely. So thank you. You've been such a tremendous asset to the district and I wish you so well you know in your you're going to be missed here, but you've really built a nice foundation and a tremendous structure for whoever goes into that role. So, thank you for that. >> Thank you. Absolutely. Best of luck. >> And then I did just want to mention uh we visited Long Hills Township Committee
meeting last week. Uh Billy and I went to just present the highlights of our budget and um Carol was there in attendance. And so this Thursday night at 7 o'clock, we will be at Warren Township's meeting followed by Wong's meeting at 7:30 for our scintillating budget highlight presentation. The township So exactly the township committees are are really always so gracious and welcoming and it's just a nice time to to actually get to to meet face to face with them each year. So we actually really enjoy that. So any board members who want to come um join us, you're welcome to. And that's all I have. >> Okay. So, um, with no other business, we're going to moment of a motion to go back into executive session because we were not able to finish all the
business we had, but we wanted to be courteous for the people. Um, so that we didn't come back too late, probably have another half hour. So, we're going to go into executive, we'll have a motion to go in executive session. Uh, then we're going to come out of executive session, but then immediately there. So, for all intents and purposes, the meeting for the public is over and also uh >> Sure. >> Hi, I just want to say thank you so much for doing that study and coming here. Um, I know personally for me, I'm speaking as my a parent. I do drive my child to school so he can get an extra half hour of sleep. So, we really appreciate it. It's my understanding though, but being that this is a regional high school and
there's more districts that we have to consider, logistically it might be more difficult than it is for Bridgewater, but definitely is something that um I'm an advocate for. So, I appreciate you guys coming here. >> Um and again, just to piggy back, it's something we have discussed on numerous occasions. It's nothing that's coming to us the first time. like wow we didn't know that we've discussed it for a while the issue has become a logistics one and that's why I mentioned that should be presented in K8 as everyone knows we have a three tier busing schedule where the K5 the K5s have a busing timeline through eight six through eight have busing timeline and then we have a busing time so for us we're first so for us to move another would have change or
it's dramatically more expensive if we have a dedicated bus. So it works out most cost excuse me most cost effective if all three schools work together with regard to timing. We certainly could just say the K8 you guys do what you want we're going to do what we want but then it really doubles the price of busing if not more and that's the problem. So that's the reason at this point. But certainly if we can get the K8 on board and just rotate that would be great. Just like the articulation piece on board and not sure why there's such hesitation. We're certainly not the bad guys. We're trying to make do what's right for every certainly for the students. for the people around this table. Again, as I've always said, it's about the students and
students first try to do what's best for the students. That's that. Okay. So, do we need anyone else here once we go into executive session all that? Okay, great. Can I have a motion to go into executive session? >> All those in favor? >> I >> Okay, great. So, we're going to go, as I mentioned, we're going to go into executive session. We're going to discuss what we need to do privately. We're going to come out and then just dismiss it. We know about the further action. So everyone, thank you for coming here. Appreciate it.
