Good evening everyone. My name is Dr. Lynette Brown. I am the principal of Winslow

Township School number six. Indeed, Winslow is winning. I was blessed to have uh watched a podcast from school three and I do feel honored to be among so many distinguished uh dignitaries. Uh this evening we have fifth grade students from school six that represent Miss Torch and Miss Clark's classes. [clears throat] >> [snorts] >> They will be presenting a cross-curricular presentation that ties in science and language arts. So, I just would like to introduce our students. So, we have Llaya Ray that's going to be introducing Mercury. We have McKenzie, which is unable to come. Venus is at a basketball game. Um Todd will be introducing Mars. Gianna will be introducing Jupiter. Aubrey will be introducing Saturn. Muhammad will be introducing Uranus. And unfortunately, Neptune is sick. >> All right. Ready? Have you ever wondered what

the most fascinating planet is? Probably not, but some people believe that Mercury might be. In my honest opinion, I have to agree that Mercury is the best planet in our solar system. Mercury is the first planet from the sun. [snorts] There is not really one way to describe what it looks like because it has such a one-of-a-kind appearance. Mercury has a silver or gray tone and is tiny like a blueberry. Mercury's characteristics are simple but interesting, just like the planet itself. Mercury is a celestial planet, which means this tiny figure has extremely rocky surfaces. You could call Mercury the Antarctica of the solar system because of its icy cold temperatures at night. [snorts] It doesn't stay that cold during the day, though. Temperatures during the day can reach up to 800° F. Some fun facts

are that Mercury was born about 4.5 billion years ago, and its rotation is 29 mph. Mercury takes 88 Earth days to revolve around the sun and it only takes the planet 59 days to rotate on its axis one time. The name Mercury camp comes from a Roman messenger god. Mercury is an interesting and fascinating planet that should be studied by everyone. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and is made out of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and aeron gases. This planet is formed by the spinning gases of dust and gases. Mars looks reddish because of oxidization and rusting. It will have one It will have a ring and it is small and red. Astronomers think in 50 million years, one of Earth, one of Mars's moons will crash into it, making it have dusty rings.

One day on Mars is 24.6 hours, and one year on Mars is 687 days. It has the biggest canyon in the galaxy called Valis Maris that is 10 times bigger than any canyon on Earth. Mars is named after the Roman god of war. It definitely deserves that strong name. >> [laughter] >> Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and the fourth brightest planet. It is the fifth planet from the sun. Jupiter has a big red dot on it that is a massive storm. Jupiter has four rings and it is a gas giant as well. Jupiter is made up of 90% hydrogen and 10% helium. This planet has the most has the largest moon in the solar system called Ganyid. It takes 9 hours and 55 minutes to rotate on its axis one time.

It takes the planet 11.8 Earth years to revolve around the sun. Jupiter got its name from a Roman god and it is the same Greek is the same as the Greek god Zeus. Jupiter was first recorded in the 7th or 8th year BC. It is an interesting planet to learn about. Saturn is a fantastic planet and there is so much to learn about it. Saturn's name came from the Roman god of wealth. It was discovered about 4 billion years ago. I can't believe Saturn is that old. Its position in the Sa the solar system is six planets from the sun. Did you know that Saturn is a gas planet? That's so cool. Saturn has beautiful rings around it which are thought to be pieces of comets, asteroids or shattered moons. This planet is a brownish

yellow color and is nine times bigger than Earth. Saturn takes 29.5 years to revolve around the sun and takes 10 hours and 42 minutes to rotate on its axis. Three hydrogen probes landed on Saturn's moon Titan in 2005. Saturn has been explored by four spacecrafts. Saturn is a is such a fascinating planet. Uranus was discovered on March 13, 1781 by William Harshell. >> [snorts] >> Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun as well as the third largest planet of the solar system. It is wider than most other most of the other planets. This planet is icy, cold and has strong winds and it and it has 13 rings. Uranus appears to spin sideway sideways. It rotates for 17 hours and 14 minutes on its axis in one day. And the planet takes 84 Earth

years to revolve around the sun. Uranus name comes from the Greek god of the sky Orinos. So, this concludes our student presentations. Thank you to school six and the science lessons on the solar system. Great job. Show them a little more love. Thank you. What matter? Mr. How are you? >> I'll be sitting over here. I'll just wait for you. >> All right. Great presentation. >> Board members, as indicated on our agenda, at this time we will um entertain Mr. Tony Tranjon who is with the New Jersey Association of Administrators and he is going to do uh give us a presentation as it with regards to the uh as we go forward with our selection with our search as we search for the um superintendent Here, I'll get your clicker. >> Yeah. Thank you. >>

So, Mr. Trondone, do is there anything else that you need in order to do your presentation? >> No, we're just waiting for the clicker. >> Are you set? >> Ready. Is that microphone? Okay. Uh, good evening everyone. Uh, I'll begin my presentation. My name is Tony Trangone. I'm a retired superintendent, past president of the Superintendent Association in New Jersey, NJASA. I have done uh I' I've done some uh superintendent searches and successful ones at that. I'll talk a little louder. How about that? Is that better? Okay. Uh, and so I'll begin my presentation. And so our consultants, if we're selected, would be myself, Tony Trangone, and Dr. Phil Heiri, a another retired superintendent from Egg Harbor Township. We also work in concert with Stockton University. Uh, again, as far as our experience, we've been doing

uh, searches since 1974. uh we have a gamut of educational specialists to support us in the search and we have a network of outreach to make sure that we get you the best applicant for Winslow public schools. So we oversee uh the process but when we say defining the criteria to selecting the ultimate candidate from my experience I have to be explicit to say you as the board define the criteria for what you who you look for in your ultimate candidate. I'm not talking about certifications, but the criteria of who who and uh what type of person you're looking for to lead the district. And then there's an alignment of your expectations related to the needs of the district that the successful candidate will possess. And what we'll do is we'll conduct that search and

then the board will our job is to help you facilitate a consensus in choosing a final candidate. Wh Let me see what's going on here. Okay. Uh, one thing that separates us from others, and I don't know if I had I had Miss Pitts reach out to Jesse Adams, who is a former uh employee from school boards association that has done many superintendent searches. And what he had told me was what separated us from school boards and I'm not trying to put down any service but we were very uh we were very data driven and we use that data to help the board make that decision whether it be obviously it's very important that it comes from the board but also the various stakeholder groups which we will collate information from and I'll go into

that. We also help with the transition with the new superintendent if so if the board wants us to do that. That's that's their prerogative to do that. And then again we we our job is to create a pool of applicants for you to select the best person to lead the district. But we tear that and we bring that to you after all the applications are in and we tier it in three tiers. But again we might tier it as the consultant but then you select who you want from those tiers to get uh to get interview on the first round. So even though as consultants we tier it we give you information of their experience their certifications uh and also we do a uh like I would say for lack of a better term a

Google search. We do like their experience what's what's like you would do the same thing. we go a little deeper and then we also have what I call uh professional confidentiality which means that I will talk to other other superintendents other building leaders throughout uh at least New Jersey and and Pennsylvania to get more background information some informal information because from my experience the board then will ask I noticed X with this particular experience can you tell me more about why this person wasn't chosen chosen to be superintendent in this district and that's our job to find that out and I can tell you that that's part of our value added that we bring that to you and then for organization. So on the right you'll see a a timeline map and this is an

example what I used at Rancokas Valley. So the board when we meet we have to make sure that we set up when the board meets we have to set up focus group and we'll talk more about focus groups that's in light blue. We want to make sure we have in-person uh conversations with various stakeholders when they'll be planned whether it be during the day or at night. We also look at the interview questions. So we really go in depth about what type of questions we're going to ask in the first round. And then on the second round, my experience is the board wants to know more about whatever their answer was in the first round and expand on that because the first round usually doesn't go as long as the second round. And again, I

talked about that timeline and then implementing the curriculum, the uh the strategies and advertising. So, we look and again we're going to we're going to do an extensive uh outreach to make sure we get a good pull of candidates and then organizing the interviews is very tricky with board members because of their uh their the time that they have to put in on on a superintendent search. is the most important decision you're going to make as a board and we have to make sure that we have everyone who is able to be a part of that superintendent search be there. So our meetings are are longer on this first meeting where we decide who and what will be at what meeting and make sure we are we reach a consensus on actually our our uh

our commitment to our time in the process. These are the stakeholder groups. So, we'll meet with district leader leadership teams. We'll look at the instructional staff, the teachers, the aids, even custodians, all the different people that work in the buildings, a parent advisory committee or a parent advisory group, members of the uh community, and then also students. And we take all that information and we and we collate it all into a database for an analysis that we give back to you. So you get that feedback of what your stakeholders are asking for. So in yellow is that on-site focus group meetings that we have. We also have evening sessions so people can make the in-person focus group meeting. We want to make sure we give them access to being engaged in this process. But then

after the after the inperson, we have an online survey that's parallel to the questions we ask in person. And we also collate all that information and it helps us with it helps not us meaning the board and and myself and miss Dr. Heiri as consultants on what type of questions we're going to ask. So this is one of the questions that we'll ask. That person we make we we include all the state associations, county superintendents. So, the principles also principles association, all the assistant superintendents and superintendents in the state uh and and the county and we will send we will send direct invitations to all members and then the inclusion of an electronic brochure that will be Winsslow Township centric. So we develop a digital brochure that talks about your community, Winslow as a community,

Winsslow Township as a school district, the criteria of what the board is looking for and then also the certifications that that go with this position and then if if you wish to uh advertise in the paper that would be on the board for the newspapers but we go we have Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn within all facets of social media, that brochure goes out to them. So, we have a good outreach of getting the best applicants. Again, I'm I'm I'm purposely being repetitive of getting the best person for your district. And again, we spell out the application procedure. They submitted to a secure database at NJASA, the Superintendent Association. And then my the consultant Phily and myself will review them all. I'm repeating myself but it purposely we do this and then we go and we tier

it and again providing to you and then we select the candidates meaning you select the candidates from that tiered list that you wish to schedule interview sessions with. So re going full circle now you can see we review the applications. There's a submission of review of the applications by the board. Then we have initial interviews. We have second round interviews. Third round if necessary. We look for once we get to a final final list or final lists. We look for references. And then we also will we'll assist in the contract negotiations. But your solicitor will most likely take the ball and run with that piece from my experience. and then it goes to the uh executive county superintendent for the evaluation of that contract and then the appointment by the board of your finalist. So

I'm going to go back to these questions because I guess this is the value added and I put it there on purpose. So board members, what I'm learning is we give a question and the board members the feedback is give me an answer. I know what I'm looking for, but give me what a four would be and give me what a two would be according to the ISL standards. They're the standards that superintendents must must live up to. Just like students have standards, superintendents have standards. And we put that in your questions, in your interview questions that you selected. So, you have sample questions and this is how you score it. And then we analyze the inter the interview questions before we implement it to see if it's aligned to the feedback of your constituency.

And you can see it's not perfect. Uh but we look at that analysis. This is one piece. And then the other piece you can see it says moderate. It's this question answers the board's concerns that they're or strengths they're looking for. And and this is a qu this is a question you don't have a question dealing with I'm going to say uh visibility. Why isn't there a question about how they're going to purposely be more visible in the in the school district? And that might that's derived from the board or it can be derived from this the focus groups in person or the survey. So again when we were dealing with Mr. Adams he liked this because ultimately again I'm repeating myself. It's up to the board. We are a consultant, but this helps guide

you with the data and our commitment. And so we do a comprehensive we have comprehensive resources. I actually uh we work with Stockton University. We have a skill team as I mentioned earlier in the presentation. And uh the bottom line is we don't add any other expenses on. What you see is what you get. So there's a full range of 21 services we provide without additional fees. Our fee is our fee plus our mileage, whatever the mileage might be, but it's relatively insignificant. These are the successful completed searches we've done. And I will share this PowerPoint with Miss Pitt so she can share it with you. You also have it. Your tech people have it. And again, the considerations that you must go through in selecting in selecting uh the best candidate for Winslow public

schools. And we put their working together for a productive and successful search, Winslow Township School District, Board of Education, and the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and Stockton University. That I I had that in there. I was I did some research on your board meetings looking at your goals uh and then how they were achieving their goals and uh and uh if there's any questions that the board like to uh ask me I'm very very looking looking forward to any type of questions they might have about my presentation but be and then I do have a handout synopsis of of my presentation along with little up here along with the proposal that I gave to Miss Pitts. So the first page is this my synopsis just in case I wasn't clear. >> Thank you.

>> Okay. And then the the next two pages are the are the synop are the uh proposal that we have. It has our TW I'm sorry 21 points of uh of of what we do and then uh and the cost so there's no surprises. First page is my presentation today. The second p second the second third page is our uh proposal that we sent to Mrs. Miss Pittz and also to Mr. Thomas. >> Uh it's right there. But I will send it to you again, Miss Pitts. >> I looked at my email. I thought I sent it, but that's why I had a copy of it. >> I wasn't sure that you got it. So, >> I just question Do you have a fee schedule or is it just a flat fee? >> That's that's

the flat fee. I know that other services have a basic one where the board does the the uh the search and then there's a and then but they oversee it and then they get as they get more involved it goes up to uh a higher level. That's our fee. fee is 9,500. >> Yes, ma'am. >> For all the advertising that you're going to do, coming in, meeting with us, the total fee is 9,500 from beginning to end. >> Yes. And at mileage, I live in Canum County. >> I grew up in Canam County. Um I just met someone and uh I my son, I grew up in wrestling and so I been familiar with Jordan, but also with the Jones family. Robin Jones and I are good friends. Uh we go back 30 years. And

then also Vince Jones and my son were friends and I saw one of the kids had a presentation about Vince and he's such an outstanding kid and I I'm feeling old because I knew Vince and and older brother Robin when they were eight and nine years old. Small world. So we take all the focus group information and we have a a closed system of AI and it does an evaluation of of the feedback of what the the the prominent concerns and strengths are that your stakeholders are looking for and the do is we divide we put questions that we derive and then we see if there's an alignment and it tells you uh and then it go it's like wash rinse repeat. We get the data that the focus group and then your information we're

looking for. We get the questions and we make sure like the first round questions does it align what you're looking for because there's believe it or not there's a disconnect because everybody has like their sample questions at the first round. But we want to make sure that we we meet in close session to differentiate the answers that you have in your notes when you ask the question and whether it's aligned to the expectations that you set forth. But it has to but sometimes the questions aren't aligned to what we're looking for. So we actually do uh a really uh I want to say detailed alignment using the the feedback when you when we get the information from the survey plus I painstakingly put all the written information from the focus group meetings into a database

and then it it has a it'll come up with the top well it it has everything but it lists it triages it to what's the most prominent uh aspect or attribute that that that they're looking for. Like it's sometimes they're looking for someone who has classroom experience. Someone's looking for budget experience. Things like that. But also again visibility. We want somebody who's going to be around. We don't see the superintendent. I'm not any but that was something that the that your stakeholder group is looking for. and we make sure there's a question and then as a board it's not a question that we just say here's the question. We collectively get together and massage it to what you feel is palatable that you'll ask your applicants that question because you know what you're looking for

in that per in that person that you want to be sitting in the chair. Okay, it's a little longwinded. I apologize but that's what I mean by data driven. Go ahead. >> We actually use them as expert uh expert knowledge in regards to what are we looking for in a superintendent. So we uh Dr. Hyrie is a professor there. So we have that affiliation. So we don't know where a search goes. Sometimes a search is very academic and it goes through. Sometimes we have to go a little deeper about certain questions and we use Stockton for their expertise. Uh I have a big ego big enough to let you tell me what to do. But I but sometimes you have to go to some experts in education and higher ed for some answers. And we

have that avenue to do that. And that's part of the fee. It's not extra. principles that sort of thing. >> So the question is what's the outreach the scope of the outreach and the scope of the outreach of getting applicants is uh multi multiple state. We also have our website the superintendent's website. We have a uh we have a reciprocity with school boards. So if they have an applicant they're on our website and if we have an applicant it's on their website. We also with NJPSA which is the principal association. We also have an Instagram and a LinkedIn and we also look at we have interstate where we have people out of state looking at New Jersey people out of state are looking at our website for that. So we have it's it's pretty extensive

but also Dr. here has a database where we actually send an email to everyone that is certified in the state of New Jersey with a school leadership license, a superintendent's license. They might not be uh in the acting position, but they have a license. So, all it was over a thousand people that we sent emails to uh to other in other searches. Go ahead. There's no extra charge. We We We're there till >> We are there till you till you have one anymore. I I'm just joking with you. But again, I I know through the search that uh I I will add that this could hurt me by telling this, but I it it we we uh acquire a familiarity with each other. So, you can tell me exactly what you're looking for. and uh

and just what we were doing back and forth. That is part of the process and you're not there's no way you're bothering me or upsetting me about what you're looking for. And I think that's that's another piece of being a consultant making sure Winslow Township Schools again for the fifth time gets the best person that you're looking for and we hope to do that for you. >> Anyone else have questions before Mr. You will be um hearing from us because as you can imagine that um we're going to have to begin to set up a schedule if indeed uh you are the one that that we choose. As um as a board we do have a search committee. There are four of us on that committee. Mr. Shaw, Miss Martin, Mr. Clark. So you at
