and miss kids i'm soon thank you thank you mr looking at what members do our board committee reports would there be a report out of our athletic committee not at this [Music] diversity equity and inclusion committee [Music] contest so listen like we've gathered all of the um our board that was submitted it was very limited amount so i communicated with this and this is about the judging of the contest [Music] it will yes [Music] um [Music] the cac meeting was held on june 2nd starting at 7 pm community members who are joe thomas zayn sterling roseberry huffman marcy tomasello patricia hollands caroline carter and russell board of education members present workers cheryl vicks mr martin and topics discussed at the median partner the discussion included reminders for the cac to help the community understand that
they can reach out to building principles for specific information on individual schools and help us foster that communication the committee discussed methods for continuing to foster growing communication between the district and the board of education and how we can all help facilitate that process together communication with new community members was also discussed as a topic and the cac requested a copy of the welcome packets that they received when they're first coming into the school district discussion around that topic included making sure that such packets could be produced in multiple languages for those that english may not be their first language and the cac asked a welcome letter from the district with all pertinent school contact information things like principal name having contact with people and phone numbers was included the cac spoke about how important
it was to have tone of the packet information be extremely friendly and enlightening and help us join that school community together versus um giving us like a technical packet with the forms that you need to fill out at the beginning of any registration process so the goal would just be to foster a positive relationship from the very beginning when a new family arrives and this free department um said that she'll report back to the committee on what the packets look like and we can take a look at it together the topic of creating an empowering parents program was tabled so that will be discussed again at the next meeting and then the board i mean the cmc does have two formal recommendations this evening for the board of education that we would like to bring
up recommendation number one the first recommend recommendation surrounds communication sources within the district and fostering math communication the cac recommends that the board of education ensure that the district website is maintained to become the one single source of information for parents within the community it is the understanding of cac that in order for the website to become the one-stop shop for the community that the information included with the site really needs to always be current and updated in real time as well as having the site navigation the functionality following the most up-to-date standardized web practices like how we have mobile optimize etc already the cac requests that an audit of the material on the website we conducted over the summer months but it's a little bit more quiet and then once again once twice a
year over once a recorder moving ahead in the future the audit that we recommend would include things like reviewing the copy the documents for the latest version control to make sure that the latest version is online and making sure that forms and links are all working properly so that it can be a consistent resource for parents students and staff members we also recommend that the site be more frequently maintained holistically change schedules defend information and content to again allow it to become that single source of information the committee members have noted and we're going to set along a list of a few areas not many but a few um that we noticed that were found to not be working properly um but feel like that audit would catch any other discrepancies an example of that
was the photo release form documentation the links are the links are there the documentation appears to be there when you try to [Music] program for the download can help all parties have clearer communications for the second recommendation i want to pause for a minute and just preface to everyone here to remind you of the actual date and time of our meeting for some context the cac meeting met last thursday and evening on 6-2 at the administration offices a day before and prior to any incident having occurred in the school district i'm still going to read that recommendation has been discussed by the committee but keep that in context as i go through what the recommendation is in light of the recent tragedies that had occurred in texas parents have been reaching out to cnc members
and others in the community to gain clarity around safety protocols within our conditions the cac was made aware that the community that the community may not fully be fully educated on or aware of current policies or procedures around the topic of school safety the citizens advisory committee strongly recommends that the board of education and the district conduct an individual special meeting or include information about this topic at a future board meeting to communicate with the community the cac recommends that the general topic of safety within the schools needs to be addressed and reviewed against parents in an open forum and the cac understands of course that certain information could not be done or should not be shared due to confidentiality and procedural protocols but we do believe that open dialogue shows our parents students and
staff on the topic to provide further education the cac further recommends that the district work in tanzania with the winslow township police department on this program to reinforce and reiterate these safety protocols through whatever form of board teams most successful or most appropriate our meeting those were the two recommendations that we would have i'm happy to answer the word that the cdc had i'm happy to answer any questions around them and our meeting was about an hour any questions or comments with regards report from the citizen's advisor are you referring to um community or parents have a better understanding of what is in lockout you know those kinds of things okay yeah just what the standard drills are the procedures just general education around the topic is what the recommendation was i think that's important
because i don't think many parents know what that means when we say knockout they're locked down and because of it it causes a lot more stress and anxiety so i would welcome that opportunity to have that kind of conversation because i think it works in the best interest of all of us okay thank you thank you thank you mr spencer asked you just to contend to those and um them to all board members so that we certainly will be able to come back at our men's board meeting and have um if not some um solutions or at least some affirmations healthcare for education i will absolutely do that and you will also all have reports of the csd meeting as well thank you you're welcome moving on board members at this time i'm asking [Music]
recommendations will just follow up on the a md battles ages two through five three seconds it has been moved by mistakes and second line of strength will give you further comments and questions giving them no complaints mr blake is freddie yes it's martin yes he's more yes yes mr yes miss thomas miss peterson yes and this is yes thank you this morning now board members i'm at the top of page six i'm asking for a motion to approve the business administrative board secretary's report that begins at the top of page six and our agenda continues through the bottom of the extending your motion peters removed for approval of the business administrative secretary and [Music] during the roll opens mr blade yes it's trading yes mrs martin yes this morning yes yes this is the show
this is thomas miss peterson yes miss fitz yes thank you for including our board members i'm at the top of age 11 i am asking for a motion to approve the personnel report that begins at the top of age 11 and continues through to the bottom [Music] 13 open public record staff spoiled oh no i'm sorry i'm sorry let's move down to our agenda [Music] i'm asking for a motion to approve the business administrative board secretary's report as it appears on page two here's the move for the business administrative foreign or questions during the no call please speculate yes yes yes martin yes mr moore yes christianity mr we are at the open publicly requests the first one was from the virtual rehab school services and marcia uh she requested physical therapy rfp information occupational
therapy art paint information and speech therapy are paid information the information her request was approved and information was supplied we received second requests from dell tech delta would like to request an electronic copy of the specifications or any other documents associated with the project the project was security alarm replacement at the middle school and high school or number 2022 of course that request was approved thank you and this time boys members are your masking the old business that you would care to discuss at this time [Music] as we move closer to the last week of school there are a lot of activities going on in all of the schools elementary through the high school i'm asking that you please go to the websites and look at the schools because at this point it's just too
many to mention and as you do know um the highlight of the english school year middle school promotion ceremonies june high school graduations june 16th both of those activities are at 6 00 pm uh by the president of support that includes the information i used to receive thank you board members moving down to our public comments the whistle township board of education highly values the input of citizens in making important decisions that affect the children of our community we also believe in the rights of citizens to observe our relations to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to attend school board meetings and to ensure that the board can conduct the important business of the district as speakers follow these guidelines for making public comments the board president obama's secretary will recognize those individuals in
the audience who wish to make please respect the following these following procedures all members of the public attending school board meetings must treat each other and the board with respect number two kind of statement full name in address number three please limit your comments to four minutes before please submit your questions to the board of [Music] um [Music] members of the board and members of our community it's my understanding that there may be individuals here that may be speaking about certain student matters that involve issues regarding student discipline and it's very important for you to understand the obligations of this board relative to those concerns while there's nothing that you have certainly a first amendment right to get up at any board meeting and speak your mind subject to engaging in proper decorum it's very
important for you to understand that this board of education in some circumstances is unable to actually respond and one of those circumstances involves matters relating to student discipline and the reason that is because there's a federal law that prevents it and it's not close it's very clear and that law is the family educational rights and privacy act or what we commonly refer to in the law as ferpa and that law mandates that any school district that receives federal funding must comply with the privacy rights of any student that does not include any individual from getting up and speaking about students their [Music] issues any discipline that may have been received but the board of education is prevented by law by federal from responding about any child or any dis any discipline that's been handed out
by the administration notwithstanding their intense desire to do so and i'm cautioned the board specifically about the application of this law if the board were to comment about or engage in a dialogue regarding any student disciplinary matter which might identify the student in any way it's a serious ethical and legal infraction that can result in that board members removal from this port so it's a very serious small it's a place to protect students so that those type of discussions are not held in a public forum but if there's issues raised and the board does not respond it's not because they don't want to believe me i watch these folks talk for hours on end they like to talk i can tell you that they like to be heard they like to represent their community but
they may not understand discuss any child or any discipline that's been handed to any group or individual students who attend this school district thank you yes [Music] good afternoon everyone my name is rich and i have been a resident of window township for 35 years i love this township i have also been working for winslow township school district for 26 years i work in the department of special education and i want to say that i love liver township i think we have the greatest township around and whether you know this or not our students have gone on to accomplish great things in his life you might just know about what's happening here but let me tell you they really have we've had some incredible students over the years that have come to winter county school
history i was blessed to have two of those children my son graduated from windsor township in the year 2005. he went to liu he got his mba and he works in procurement he's the ones that make sure that when your children and yourself go to new york that the growth and bridges are safe he does contracts he keeps us safe so we're not driving a heart falling in the ocean somewhere now my daughter also she graduated from rutgers and she is in the media and if you've ever heard of a tv show paul sixers outsiders that's her she's one of the hosts now i'd like to speak to you about something that happened at windsor township high school and uh i'm kind of sad so i thank you so much for giving me the time
and the opportunity to speak to you as usual high school students um when they were seniors they do what you call senior practice and it happens in a lot of schools okay and we've even had it for the last five years now unfortunately uh this year the students that pulled the senior prank they had come under some harsh discipline and the discipline is that they cannot walk with their graduating class and that really saddens me as a parent of windsor township because think about it all of you all have children and they're probably growing up just like mine are the worst call a parent can ever get from the school is something that the child did and now they're under discipline that's very hard it's hard on us as parents and that's enough to make
their hearts faint now i want to remind everyone of first corinthians 13 and what that says is when i was a child i thought of the child and spoke as a child as a child but when i became an adult i put away childish ways now let me tell you something there's a reason when pencils were made which we gave our children in school to write with it has an eraser on the end you know why because children are going to make mistakes our teenagers are going to make mistakes and let me remind you of the african proverb which says it takes a village to raise a child i thank all those that were instrumental and maybe my children and that's why they were able to achieve what they have now i would speak to
the people they said that this punishment not being able to walk is very harsh it's a harsh punishment it's never happened before and i'm here to speak on that behalf and just to say there's no justification in it especially when everybody else is doing it now it's in a way think about it think of it like this think of it along these terms it could be a lesson in disguise because who knew that winslow township has a high school have a vulnerability that someone can sneak in and get into this school building maybe this was the blessing in disguise that those children found a way to get into an open door that obviously maybe didn't lock god forbid he could end up like down the road like texas you know what happened in that school
but anyway what i'd like to say is please please please reconsider because the children i mean they these students have worked hard i've heard one of them has never had any single disciplinary attitude throughout his high school career so i feel we are in the business of education we are here to educate our students and help them to be successful in their careers so excuse me excuse me i'm sorry okay there are others who are coming behind me thank you so much please reconsider letting our students graduate please they have families coming from out of town they've worked hard for 12 years please be considered [Applause] did you hear me good evening my name is carla ortiz and i live at 428th avenue in chicago and i am also the president of the chiselhurst school

worldwide tradition this year however our class came together as a player that turned into a much more serious conflict we were wrong for not only breaking into the school but we were doing our prank that is higher understandable and shocked over the events that happened in texas as this understandable reason for us to be punished this doesn't justify our actions at all however we as a whole do understand the severity of the situation take complete responsibility and apologize [Applause] excuse me here we go my name is national albie smith i've been attending worlds of social high school for four years and now like four years i've never received this disciplinary action not attention and not always until this moment that is not justified two weeks ago's actions i did participate in the work i was

school career thank you for giving me an opportunity to speak on behalf of myself in the senior class about our senior prank which occurred almost two weeks ago we entered the school with the mindset of a harmless senior prayer that what we would have known was extremely risky and could have caused immediate scare i wanted to express my heartful heartfelt regret foreign as i previously stated i've lived in this district for 14 years and have stood there watching my siblings relatives and friends walk across the stage waiting for my turn it has always been a dream of mine to be able to showcase my academic achievements and hard work just by walking across the stage along with my peers this is a significant event not only for us but also for our families who will
travel great distances just to see as well so i have begged partly to promise to do whatever it takes for us thank you for teaching the television thank you brittany [Applause] but first uh apologize for all the actions that i did at the senior prank i'm darren brooks and i would like to introduce myself i'm a senior at measles township a student athlete was maintained at a 4.3 gpa and has played three sports over the course of four years i became the captain of all three scores this school season now i say this not to books but to show you guys the type of students our type of students that show those news we apologize for the events that happened two weeks ago and our intentions were not what occurred and we apologize sincerely thank
you [Music] thank you okay [Music] for the past four years we've worked hard planned this morning [Music] for the last time he thanked them for for helping us throughout this journey we admit what we did was a mistake and deserve a consequence but we hope along given us the memory of graduating that are that should grant our families with the same memory our thank you all for listening [Music] good evening my name is high school student for the past seven consecutive years my son dear cooks is the last of my four children to graduate from high school and participated in um marching band and all of the sports and everything so i know a lot of these faces um i also attended the war ceremony because one of my daughters uh there's a scholarship that
she earns money to do scholarship each year these students are the same students that four or five years ago were coming to the superintendent's board awards and award banquets and receiving awards for the things that they have done and the reason why i chose to speak is because i don't feel that their whole summation of the last 13 years of education should be followed up into this one core decision i know we've all made poor decisions in our lives and i can honestly say i've done things that were much more severe and the punishment was not disappeared um i'm not getting any defense for what they've done but they're all regretful these are students that have received awards honors accolades failed brought pride to this city they brought pride to the township um school district
they brought home championship awards they brought home marching band awards they brought home um all these beautiful accolades that this city produces these are those same students that everyone has taken a cat on the back and claimed them as their own these are our as a parent as a citizen as a board member as an administrator as a teacher these are our schools and we cannot summarize their 13 years of school into one poor decision they've been disciplined i think the discipline um has been marched they haven't had this their senior trip they've been suspended from school for five minutes they missed their senior awards they they missported events that they that brought together the fullness of the year there's so many things that they that they have infinite lives for that um i just
want to say that yes graduation is something that these kids will remember forever this is something that can have a traumatic effect on them in the future and i want people to consider that when this is something that if you know anyone that didn't attend prom 20 years ago you will still hear them to this day oh i didn't go to my class can you imagine what kind of effects would happen to these students if they don't attend their graduation if it's my time i'll give it up i just want to say one last thing the importance of graduation is so important to me my family and my father traveled here from indonesia after not seeing his grandchildren for the last three and a half years because of kobe for the last three years to
come because of hoping this is something that he wanted to do for his only well he's his firstborn and only grandson and i just feel that thank you oh and currently i got over 400 kids um boys and girls young ladies and younger in my organization is i got five kids i was so bad i was so i was in jail so much that i wasn't even supporting them so my first four kids i was a fellow one thing about me i'm gonna be honest but god gave me a second i think they paid enough i missed being suspended mississippi trips and um i support them like he's important and like i say uh i just wish i could have gradually had my parents there for me i got one kid that [Music] um you
can pronounce your last name teachers and students i started here because 20 years ago i could not graduate that pride [Music] i never received a call never ever when he told me he was going to have a prank he's a quiet ball i was happy because i needed prank by that is i have a very strong child a scientist and most psychologists responsibly believe that harsh punishments do not change anymore before me sees life and is through our mistakes that we have learned the lesson that i have made as an hour as a parent this is the right things that i do there has always be the wrong ones that i go back to and learn my lessons from these children have less their lesson i never told my child that what he did was
wrong but then his five days after he met the person himself i stand here not to defend what they have done they might have had excitement at that particular moment and even as adults investment that at that very moment would happen but then something happened with somebody says something and we realized what a terrible mistake that it was when we say with all wings it doesn't mean that there are people with wings who have not failed but then we went together the class of 2022 without these kids and so what we have of our lord jesus christ we die on the cross and whose blood each day speaks for each and every single one in this room we plead that enough is enough these kids have lent their blessing and even if as parents we
don't talk we have stood here and have apologized and when apologies come forward hearts are supposed to not and that is why we have good forgiveness thank you for having us [Applause] sorry [Music] this year my senior year i decided to go above and beyond i was chosen to be an assistant drum major i was student director as well as captain and blade huxley in the atmosphere musical i became the voice of the zombie announcement starting every morning with a burst of positive energy hoping to get everyone ready for another day and i was also going to prom i would like to first thank you for allowing me to speak and taking your time to listen i would like to apologize for my participation in good senior prank it was truly wrong especially with the
times we are now unfortunately living we should we should have thought about it more it caused a lot of commotion early that friday morning and though that was not the intention we do apologize we understand the gravity of the situation that we understand that punishment we have received although it would mean a tremendous amount to all of us and our families if we were created to walk again personally i have a story where i thought multiple times i wasn't going to make it but i had a huge amount of support from teachers friends and family my dream of walking was truly for them to let them hear my name called and i take a breath of relief as i reach for my diploma and shake the hands of administration i want them to see my
hard work paid off i'm sure all of us would love for our support systems to see our hard work as the next generation we would like us to be an example for the classes coming up of what not to do instead perhaps start a new safer tradition again we sincerely generally apologize this apology is not just because we are not committed to walk at this time but as an authentic politician for crossing countries we appreciate this opportunity to speak with all of you all and thank you very much [Applause] that concludes those things is at this time we are about to go into the executive session mr mall this madam president thank you in accordance with the requirements of the open public meetings at entering into an executive session on june 2022 at approximately 9
