001I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. >> Yes. Um Glenda at the time. and Peter vice president. Okay, next item. Approve approve agenda. I'll make a motion. Have a second. >> Yeah. Okay, moving down to E. Approval of October 21st regular board meeting. Let me let me correct you. I wanted to ask >> I know here but um Last question on the motion by enter carry two days four. >> It's supposed to be four. Yeah. >> And then so what time did you get the And then what time did the meeting ended? >> I don't have that information. >> I think the last minutes were also not correct. >>
002We we ended 7:48. So that is >> for the executive session. We ended executive session. >> So if you want me to put the actual time we got out executive session, then if you wanted you guys to email me that information, that would be very helpful because I don't have that information. Um that's why I only >> So you went to whatever you got up >> and then what time. >> Okay. So that needs to be corrections. >> Yeah. So if you could get me that information because I'm [clears throat] not here for the ending of the executive session, so I'm not able to record those times. So if you could just get those to me. >> Superintendent. Okay. I just wanted to cut this. I'll >> second here. Yay. >> Okay. And >> October.
003>> Oh, sorry. >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. >> With the adjustment. [clears throat] >> Going down to two reports. Um, superintendent Dr. Alamada. Madame President, members of the board, good evening everybody. Welcome to our guests and our community members. Um I first I am glad to report to our community and to the board that officially uh all of our schools in the elementary, middle school and high school are now traditional schools. This is for school year 2425. So, elementary moved from CSI to traditional school. Middle school stayed the same for traditional. High school stayed the same for traditional. In line with our 5-year strategic plan now, uh 2425 were traditional. So really in the next 3 to 5 years, our goal is to become a spotlight school. So we have a good foundation as far
004as where we can start uh looking at our data. So this Saturday when we do our data workshop I would be presenting the breakdown and and the trajectory from year to year as well as the breakdown for this data. So um districtwide we have a proficiency in math of 6%. So that is a big there's a big need there to to address that deficiency in math proficiency. So um during summer we've already started working on um understanding and looking at grade level or mathematics standards from elementary to the high school and we will be sustaining uh throughout the remainder of this year as well as next year to address that deficiency. Uh last month I've already procured a math intervention uh program for elementary and 8th grade and elementary and middle school and to to
005jumpst start that addressing that deficiency in math. Uh districtwide our reading proficiency is 27% and our science proficiency had increased to 19%. Uh I will be able to break it down. uh this is a uh public information public access publicly accessible information through the NMTED vistas but I'd like to bring the attention with the growth um growth is at 45th percentile reading growth is 53rd percentile so as far as um ability to grow we do have the potential to grow um definitely uh we have some skill deficits. So growth rate math proficiency or proficiency in math, reading and science is based on how the students are performing on grade level standards out of um [clears throat] uh the different uh projection. So it measures four and five. If a student rates four and five, that
006means they are mastering grade level standard or proficient in in grade level standard. Um those that are scoring in one two that means that they are counted as not proficient. However, when you look at that uh superimpose the growth in it within um within level one, level two, that means there are some movements from the growth rate. So we would like to capitalize on that students ability to grow but definitely to sustain the effort of our teaching and our um instruction on addressing tier one instruction so that we are able to um u be able to access the general education curriculum at grade level at the same at the same time address those skill gap those tier three skill gap. But the reading growth of 53rd percentile means that our uh our students are progressing.
007Now our goal is to be proficient to bring them to proficiency. Our graduation rate uh had improved also at 8.2 2 percentile growth. And the the other uh report a positive report uh that I would like to report is officially the public education bureau, public education department has accepted and fully um fully evaluated our elementary dash plan as part of the CSI requirement. And if you would notice the elementary through their team and through the effort of the entire elementary school is able to address all the component that means that for the first 90 days and then they will be doing another 90day cycle second semester to address those goals. So um I'm happy to report that this is full year um the elementary has a fully approved and fully completed dash plan. So thank
008you for our elementary team on that and um for our uh thank you as far as operations update for technology we are trying to make an effort to to make sure that students don't have to remember multiple passwords for different programs. So um uh our IT department has been very diligent in making sure that all the programs are able to be part of our one login system. So having said that uh we have um we have also been recipient of a grant from Bonsai. So instead of us purchasing a financial literacy which is only available for high school, Bonsai uh I spoke with their uh program uh when when the Chase Bank came to deliver those goods. Bonsai also reached out to say are you interested to have a financial literacy curriculum elementary to high
009school? And I said how much? And I said, well actually it's free because it's funded by the bank but because the the banks throughout the states wanted to improve the financial literacy we'll take it and um we now have access to it. So from now on and the month of December we will be training our staff member on how to use it but hopefully our teachers and our students are able to use the program for financial literacy. It's game days, but it's also a lot of um role playing. But today, I received a mail that says you're not just getting support for your students to have access financial literacy, but they also offered another program for our adults, EAs, teachers, administrators. It's almost like uh retirement planning. So, it's a free uh as a free
010service, a free a free learning platform for our staff to help improve financial literacy. And in my head, when I say financial literacy, I was just talking to a um a colleague of mine that works in AED and said, I think I have to start thinking of of retirement. He was uh talking about that even even the retirement benefits also get taxed. So, so I said, "Oh, yeah, that's right." So, uh, I need to make sure. So, it's important that we also provide that kind of assistance to our teachers that they don't just benefit from the uh benefits that we offer as an employee, but that we also provide them some guidance as to how to to live comfortably. You know, I know that other teachers that that uh retired before had to come back
011or had to still um had to do the whole job to augment. So um as early as now providing that assistance on top of our employee assistance program and on top of our inia support uh this is just an additional support benefit for our staff. We also are part a recipient of a um panorama uh grant from TEED and basically it uh instead of paying and this is a very significantly costly program but TED granted us uh a program wherein we are able to put together all our data pieces in one area. So we are able to track attendance as a behavior, discipline, social, emotional, academic growth, graduation rate in one platform that we re uh if you remember Dr. Milano before presented something but we have to pay for it. This time it's free
012from PE. So uh our IT is working on integrating that and capturing data from within our CIS. We are also recipient of a P2C uh program through the college career bureau and uh in partnership with the special education department. So, our district is and and you will see in the attachment one of the agreement that I signed with the public education department on piloting the the disability innovation funds allowing our high school students to be able to get a workbased math instruction. So, it's teaching math in the context of the job that they wanted to work on. teaching geometry, teaching algebra in the context of culinary arts, in the context of agriculture or things like that. And uh for our safe uh safety and wellness security, I have just submitted our uh required water results
013submission through the EPA and our facilities department uh through the leadership of uh Miss Randy have already militarized our HVAC system. Uh we are expecting a uh a weather change over Thursday, Wednesday, Thursday. So, and we did have to cancel our uh turkey truck and move it to Monday just because we're expecting some weather. So, otherwise the turkey will will not run. [laughter] So um our um uh wellness staff also attended the headtotoe conference transportation we participated miss [clears throat] Charlene participated with the monthly safe transportation initiative with the hems PBLO and I would love to report to you that when we attended uh a consultation with HMS PBLO I believe he is the tribal administrator and he told me, please tell your transportation department, thank you for being conscious of the speed. He said
014that literally our bus uh passed through in front of their house and all the other bus would just whis by, but our bus actually follows the the speed and actually takes time turning and not just the speed out. So um that's a kudos to our transportation department making sure that they are following safety protocol. So and coming from you know coming from the community I told uh the tribal administrator thank you for that u um comment and he told me to relay it to our department. So um as far as grant management um in your file uh madame president members of the board I have signed three uh grants or agreements. One is we will be receiving and it's not like it's already given to us. We just have to accept it. So I guess
015so so from capital outlay um our go library fund we will be receiving $10,000 for library equipment upgrade and supplemental resource acquisition. I will be meeting with our leadership team to uh identify our needs for both middle school elementary and well as well as the high school library and see what will be we will prioritize for this year. uh disability innovation funds that's P2C and then the facility master plan and we will be and um we have already been awarded um the 10 the $100,000 for a capital outlay but then this facility master plan is for us to contract a company or a consulting firm to help us build our five-year master plan. So I will we will be working with the board aligning aligning our master plan with our strategic plan and I will
016be updating the board regularly as the as the as the service progress with our contractors. Uh Miss Randy already got the quote and with the signing of this agreement we will be able to start working with them. Uh personal updates we did have a resignation in our middle school and I will be able to discuss the details in executive session. Um as well we've also we've already offered employment to our to a new diagnostician who um as of today we've confirmed that uh we'll be starting Monday. Is that correct miss? So Monday next week we will have a diagnostician as well as our social worker who will start December one. However, she's already servicing our kids this year. So she's just transitioning to become a full-time employee and will not just will not just service
017a certain number of kids but she will be able to service K12 preK to 12 for that matter. Uh professional development our transportation department uh uh participated in their annual required CPR training. We participated in the sped fellow uh CT opportunity gap as well as CLSD required professional development. I would like um I don't know what you've heard but as far as what from what I've heard from the teachers from the students and from the community during the he pblo feast day and I've witnessed it myself our high school and elementary and middle school students were very respectful going inside the homes and were very full when they left the homes. [laughter] I said I think I'm embarrassed to say can I say no because I already finished one house but um that the kindergarten
018students the elementary students was right there in front or by the by the governor's booth and they were really be able to participate. I've seen he students embracing the non-native students because they saw them inside the pblo. So it was a very powerful experience and then one host family actually besides preparing food they also prepared goodies for the kids. So um they were very welcoming. I really would like to extend the gratitude to the entire PBLO of MS for um for allowing us to participate and it's uh it's an opportunity that uh was uh I would say relatively successful. The weather was nice, transportation, uh all the logistics, we had our own booth there in case we also have our own puppy uh uh restroom. So it was uh I would say it was relatively
019successful. All the students came back safe and then all our students participating in the MS for the feast was able to complete their participation there. So thank you for that. Um we have a lot of community engagement and a big turnout during our veterans day presentation. all our students from from kindergarten to seniors had a presentation for our veterans and we have a big turnout and we have a lot of uh family members who were uh from elementary, middle school and high school who participated in that lunchon. So thank you to our leadership team putting that together and of course Miss Jessica. Um we've had a successful consultation collaboration meeting with Chemist PBLO and we've also had a meeting with Dr. Ken Fine. So I'm making myself up to speed as to our community. So
020Dr. Fine is the owner of the land behind our track and field and we use that we use his area for our cross country. But then that conversation expounded to say well I would really like to develop that land and then to the conversation to say how can the district be part of that development. So whatever development he will be making how can our students be an intern there? How can we build a CTE program there? So the conversation evolved into uh why not we make it into a summit? How can we create a a communitybased communitydriven workbased CTE program? So with uh the Hemis PBLO governor, Zia governor, with the Hemis May, he uh uh spring mayor and with our local uh local business. And he said, "Well, I also know of the owner
021of this business here, the owner of this business here." And I said, "Well, let's just get together then anytime this December or January. let's have a summit and let's let's uh you know let's hear from one another what is it that you can produce and what is it that you need this school to help you with. So I think it was a successful and productive meeting with Dr. time partnership and outreach. We have um I am hoping to formalize our partnership with future focused education. I know that we've already had our the board already approved our portrait of the graduate. The board has also approved our strategic plan but now we need uh a help in aligning all these things uh rubric how to self assess. We could do it internally but I think it's
022powerful if we invite a a partner that can give us a third eye view I uh and also help us bring resources and so they will come in with resources from peed from within the the local sandal county and from within federal funding if needed. We continue to have partnership with PED uh pilot uh we are part of the pilot school accreditation um and so we are a breast as to what's changes going on and then also with uh the elementary the team and the district leadership team also receive monthly CSI leadership coaching uh through the through the school improvement uh bureau and we continue to have our active partnership with our CRC for next step plan. We want uh you know we hear about uh our literacy initiative. Right now we are focused on
023our elementary but we want to develop a systemwide literacy program. Uh as early as prek all the way to them graduating. Um we are we will be partnering with future focused education to improve our college career readiness alignment creating different um different internship opportunities. So they will help us look for resources as a this company provide internship funding. Okay. So it's a partnership with them. And then we will be uh convening a community summit that will involve the tribal leaders, community leaders, law enforcement group, local industry as well as inviting the county commissioners. Um I would like to invite uh the board and the community. The fifth grade class will be producing a concert, a Christmas concert. And um it's going to be uh tentatively right now. is going to be on December 17 that
024I believe it's an or goal at this point in time and uh as far as the strategic priorities for the next month as we close our first semester is to make sure that we have documentation for all our students through the MLSS those that are receiving tier one tier 2 and tier three support and I stand for question Madame President Um Dr. I just want to say I have heard so many things about community engagement and it's like it's so wonderful to hear and good feedback not only what you described but feedback elsewhere too of the things that are happening here. So that's wonderful and I just put out my strategic plan because I was curious of what goal we have on here first >> community >> for community engagement and how that is being
025um how the data is being recorded >> so that we have proof of like oh we're doing X Y and Z and here's how and why and here's the results. I don't know. Are you gonna have a Oh, okay. >> So, um, so for example, um, working with, uh, Jessica, we make sure that we have all our, uh, agendas as well as our sign sheets for those two events, but then we will, we are also crafting a survey. >> Okay. >> So that we would have uh, um, an actionable data. >> Yeah. Uh so um unfortunately we were not able to do a DOI and and an um EOI but we will strategically so to speak we will do our uh beginning data in January so that we will be able to see you know
026now they know what kind of I almost told myself my goodness I I think I started something I don't know how to pack it next year so so that was my fear but I said okay we we'll just continue with that it's a good data but yes um We already have surveys. Mr. Foster already started creating surveys. We will work together with the survey with Panorama because they have their own survey tool and we will also be using different surveys so that we will be able to really gather good actionable data. So yes, we are creating a rubric to measure our progress year to year in those areas. >> Yeah, it's been so wonderful. So I want to capture it in action. Yes, >> thank you Dr. Going down to the um principal and chief
027academic officer, Mr. Foster. >> Good evening, Madam President, board members. All right. So, um, our, uh, schools report tonight focuses actually a lot on what we just talked about, a lot of community engagement. Um, so, November was definitely an eventful month across Valley Public Schools. Um, showcasing cultural pride, community partnerships, academic programs. Um, so we'll go ahead and start with the elementary school. Um first starting that uh Miss Herman and her team met with the sit team the school improvement team from peed that resulted in very positive feedback. The visiting team uh commended the school for visible improvements in instruction uh and also reflecting the dedication and collaboration of all staff of all staff members. Uh the Veterans Day performance. Every student preK through fifth grade participated in a heartfelt performance honor of the veterans.
028The event strengthen student sense of respect, civic awareness, community engagement and celebrations. Uh we have our trunk retreat in Oktoberfest which drew a large community participation. I will just say the October Fest was packed. Um, and it raised quite a bit of money as well for our different programs on campus. Um, our prek [clears throat] field trip, they took a students enjoyed the their first field trip to the gallow goat pumpkin patch at show. Each student picked out their own pumpkin to take on. >> [clears throat] >> We had for the elementary school, we had 50 students, 57 students attend the Hus Valley Feast Day, connecting classroom learning to to local club culture and traditions and uh a positive attendance culture. Students with perfect attendance, perfect October attendance were honored with a pumpkin pie party
029uh chosen by the students as their reward. And then also our prek program, the EC ECD, uh we had a visit from and representatives from the early childhood education care department of classrooms review documentation systems and provided guidance on organization. The visit was wellreceived and the team is awaiting for final feedback. In regards to new initiatives, the school's leadership team continues to refine and improvement it improvement systems following recent professional learning and external reviews. So starting with uh the navigate conference after attending NMPED navigate conference the SI team focused on three refined goals. monitoring small group instruction, data informed interventions, enhanced PLC structures, the Redwood Literacy Partnership. So, launching well this month we have a a partnership that began began a partnership with uh Redwood Literacy that will bring structured literacy interventions for struggling readers.
030Certified uh Cal and special education instructors will deliver virtual small group tutoring using Wilson reading curriculum and proven research based a proven researchbased model. And then below that in the report you'll see our a mirror reading assessment from August to October uh with the different adjustments or the different growth. So, kindergarten had a 8.4 improvement. Uh, first grade did have a a [clears throat] a decrease. Second grade a slight decrease at.37. Third grade had a uh increase of 27.56. Fourth grade uh increase of 22.24. Fifth grade had an increase of 19.75 points. And then the intervention data snapshot on grades 2 through five. Special education had an increase of 29.85. Our air reading uh completers had an increase of 15.06 and non-air reading students had an increase of 21.19. down to our program updates. The
031SID team has developed improved systems for instructional instructional monitoring and teacher feedback. Student enrolled enrollment in Redwood literacy services is underway with staff with staff scheduling finalized. PreK staff are implementing are implementing ECED organization recommendations and aligning documentation practices to meet the compliance standards. Some upcoming dates I messa testing will be December 8th through 11th. The holiday program which is our fifth grade fundraiser will be December 17th and the end of the quarter will be December 18th. For middle school we have um the middle school continued a strong record of community involvement and student engagement. We had the Veterans Day performance. Students in grades six through eight presented a districtwide event to honor veterans. And then as well as our our October Fest celebration and then feast day celebration where we have 15 middle school
032students participate in the Hannah Valley Feast Day providing cultural enrichment and strengthening connections within the local community. Il implementation for English language arts. Teachers are receiving ongoing training to enhance the use of ISL platform, the ISL platform, which provides personal practice and data reports to support literacy skill growth. Some upcoming dates again the MA set of testing will be set for 8 through 11 and the end of the quarter will be December. On to high school. Um so in high school we had an expectations assembly on November 4th. Uh this assembly was to reinforce key expectations related to behavior attendance and respect. Um students engaged in interactive discussion as well as some scenarios focusing on accountability and positive school culture. Then again high school as well participated in the feast day field trip. on November
03312th, we had a uh career exploration assembly led by Andrea Thomas from the HZ Valley Department of Education where she met with students to go through career exploration as well as uh CTE pathways. And then we also had our CTE skills workshop on October 28th which is which had the theme of champions at work empowering our future workforce. students engaged in leadership exercises, technical skill building, and really just exposure to a wide variety of our PCT programs. In regards to Friday Academy, um our enrollment continues to grow. We now currently, it's actually over 20 students that are now signed up for the Friday Academy. So, that continues to to go to grow. Again, we're focusing on closing the learning gaps through tutoring, credit recovery, as well as character development and physical fitness. Our wellness room
034is up and operational. It serves as a safe place for emotional regulation for students with social emotional support. Right now, we have an average of weekly usage ranging from six to 10 students a week. However, that is often various depends on staff availability to staff the longer. Our peer support group is continuing to practice empathy and communication through structured scenario discussions. Um, this is part of our ongoing uh partnership with future focused education to build peer leadership and campuswide wellness. And then um both high school staff and students completed a comprehensive cultural surveys. Results will be reviewed at the opening day today um to guide steps for improving overall morale, communication, and engagement. Our senior advisor, Miss Dehan, met with senior parents to discuss and select a graduation date for 2026. that they selected May
03529th at 6 pm as the official graduation date. Um, and then family and community engagement. So, went back and looked at our uh district website, social media, as well as our app. Um, so we've had a total of over 43,000 total views on our website in the past 30 days. social media. Uh we are 8.5,000 page visits which 89% content engagement rate and 126 followers. That's a almost 7% growth. And then our mobile app has 119 downloads providing payments with staff [clears throat] and real time access to announcements and calendar alerts. And that concludes the report. Any questions? Any questions for a question? Um I'm curious about the air. >> Yes. >> Um the the negative pieces in there, >> right? So that I and I'm sure Miss Herman feel free to jump in, but
036that negative in first grade the testing happened. Miss Hogan was out for a portion of time and then the testing so the students were were working with a sub and then the testing happened. So they were really out of their routine. I'm I'm sure when we when we test on our next uh testing I'm sure we're going to see an increase with that. I would say you know that that had a lot to do with some changes that was happening that students just weren't speak out of their comfort zone. >> Yeah. Yeah. I just remember seeing I think it's data before it and before and it being like an amazing program like wait a second. >> Yeah. No, I think that was hopefully more of a timing issue when that was given and the students
037being out of their routine. >> Okay. Thank you. So I could add on to that as well because Amamir has been an ongoing um air is brand new to not only us but to the state as a whole. This year we've transferred from Istation as being our benchmark assessment for K through five to using AMRA. Um they purchased and kind of partnered with Istation and there's a lot of uh possibility for great enhancements to it because it's powered by AI now and the students are able to speak into the program. So, it's giving um a really could be giving a really clear picture of what their reading fluency looks like in a way that I station was never able to do before because it was all just clicking for answers. However, with brand new technology,
038um not only us, but statewide we're seeing a lot of kind of issues cropping up with the program in itself. um and Miss Hogan's class with many others as well actually. Um even this month we continue to have problems where the students are having to take the assessment multiple times because it's not picking up their voice. >> Um so we're still working through it. We are seeing and using other benchmarks as well um physically doing oral reading fluencies on the students and decoding surveys. So we have our own records and are seeing great progress in our kiddos. Um, but we're still working with the Amira program and trying to get those kinks worked out to be able to have a better picture through that how our kiddos are doing as well. So, some of that
039is technical issue also. >> Yeah. So, I think was a combination of the two. Um, but yeah, we are hopeful that when we retest we'll see change to that. Yeah, thank you for your [laughter] just want to ask on the graduation that we >> So because of the days >> Yeah. So I I know that when Miss Dehon met with the parents, she voted I believe two or three different options and per the board's request to meet the parents that was the date that the parents uh voted for and selected >> and Mr. Camalena the last time we discussed that uh as far as PED attendance requirement is concerned all students need to be reported their attendance need to be reported according to the calendar. So we've submitted a calendar for 155 days. So students
040in all the way to senior needs to be reported for 155 days. >> Right? So if we could have the graduation, let's say two weeks before the end, >> They still have to attend and I'm sure as the board knows once those students graduate, they do not want to attend anymore. So getting them to show up for those days, we we had talked about doing different enrichment activities and everything, but once they've graduated, you know, we still need to hold them accountable. So having a labor graduation date make that more. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Next going to see finance and report. The October uh checklist, the expenditures uh consist of training for new bus driver, health office supplies, ancillary, software, license renewals, do inspections for the buses, pest control, utility expenses, testing kits, classroom
041supplies, food management service, and one-on-one tutoring, and the EAP services. So those were some of the uh Randy did not submit IBTS this month. There are two bars. One is a decrease for fund 24118 fresh fruits and vegetables. Final award was received and total award was less than anticipated creating the decrease. The second bar for fund 24190. This is a transfer bar moving budget from function 22000 to function 1000 for other contracted services. Uh Randy is still awaiting final application of approval for fund 27901 which is Indian ed. We received an updated uh from the Indian ed division stating our application still needs revisions. This was frustrating as it took over four months to let us know this. The revisions have been completed and we are still waiting on final approval to hopefully have budget
042authority by December. Uh several grants we are working to spend down to funds with carryover amounts 24101 title one and 241 154 title two. Both amounts need to be spent by December 31st, 2025. So the district is working to ensure this gets done and overall everything is looking good. Any questions? Um here um going down to three public comments. Do we have any? >> No comments. >> Comments. Okay. New business. Um, a approval of 2020's graduation date. >> So move a second. >> Voice Kathy. >> Uh, yes. >> Brenda, >> yes. >> Peter, >> okay. Um, approval of um, JBPS agreement. Uh Miss um Madame President, members of the board, we would like to make some uh amendments to our um custodial ship of our keys and uh in also improving accountability. I'd like to
043bring in Miss Freda to uh walk us through the changes. >> [clears throat] >> I just did a quick summary just because I know at the beginning of my time doors were left open. There was not a real concern of the custodian the maintenance for custodians could open the key through that you know the key and the door would be open. um at some point through the years the issue of safety for the kids and so doors have become locked. So once we started locking doors then we have the keystone program that allows us to have um cores on the doors that are interchangeable with stuff. So we have our front doors. Each door has a different code. And so we have like A, B, C, D, and F is the J. And then we
044have what they call an old code, which is the reason, and I can get to that another too far. So um at the [clears throat] elementary the elementary building school building and high school buildings have masters for the building which principles secretaries and studies got those masters so that they were able to move within their building you know to open doors and stuff. Teachers get keys to their room and a key to the door to come in. Um, and when we did, if I forget anything, if you have questions, I can kind of go back. Um, and [clears throat] at that time, the only people that had the actual grandmaster that opens everything were maintenance, IT, um, the maintenance and the IT people because they're the ones that had to go in every place, you
045know, the contractors for the everything. and it needs to go into education and everything. So once era a r a funding was available those years the district at that point made the choice to put in cameras and those gray boxes which we call the card readers. So now we provide badges for people and on those badges it's been successfully put in all the doors everything that has a gray box [clears throat] is in this program that one I can't ever say that program close on that one. And so we now give people badges that give access to front doors and access to certain common areas like libraries used to be computer rooms and other areas that all staff needs to get into. Um but yet all the doors can still be open to the grandmasters.
046So at some point in my history keys there was a lost grandmaster door keys and the gym keys. So at that time our budgets were low because he had reverse had taken down the unit value. So districts didn't have enough budgets anymore. we had to even for a little while and at that time we're having to figure out how do you secure school when a grandmaster's lost I mean because anybody who find that grandmaster can come in to everyone so what they did is the programmer the administration the programmer that uses the keys programmer who program that uses yeah sorry and the administration decided to change the course because we at least least costly thing we could do to secure the school was to change the course on the front doors and no front door
047can be opened with the grandmaster. Then they put course on all the outside doors, back doors that cannot be open with grandmasters. Everybody was to be coming in through the front door and then you can move around with the internal master that the principles and secretaries and custodians had. He said, "There was a two-year period that I wasn't taking care of the keys. When I came back, I kept being told that the grandmaster now opens the front door." And I was like, "It wasn't ever meant to open the front door because that's an issue." So, I researched it and found that within those years, I believe the administration made a choice to make another grind master using the old core that was on the outside doors. So it would open the front doors. Why? I
048don't know. So now we have a grandmaster, grandmaster, and all the masters that are within the middle school. Um, so it's getting a little scary to me to have that many masters and masters out. At any rate, so looking at our key agreements, we have a very low charge for masters and the front doors and stuff. So I've asked if increasing them and I did send you a sheet that [clears throat] >> and I believe that if those grandmasters are lost, we use this. I wouldn't even know what the next step would be to except to maybe start completely scratch over with a whole different setup. Um, at one time they wanted to do other things and I think there's other options out there but they're costly. So that was a fast and cheap way
049to secure the school. But we're losing ground a little here because there is a lot of convenience and relaxation on the keys. people are building each other when they're lost and not being told soon enough. So that's the reason I wanted to increase hoping that we'll make a more important idea for the key also when we do lose them to grandmaster and we still have to collect the keys back. We do have this says we're going to charge them for them to these amounts but we didn't have anything in writing that would force the payment right away. we would have to go through like a collection a debit collection type thing. So we took this phrase from the same place that we do on the retention statement which was written by the lawyers that allows
050them and they sign this paper and everybody who gets a key will sign this paper. It says if you bless it gives instructions and will automatically come out of your desk. So, we're still working on making this a very safe school. You know, I haven't put too little too much money. I'm sorry. It's been good time. Anyway, that's the change I wanted to make is just that grandmaster needs to be taken care of. >> And uh Madame President, members of the board, basically the the price increase is to cover the cost for replacing. So we have to >> pay for all of the question. >> You never decide to use like your ID. >> We do. But right now doors I know that for me might go to the minister's office down there. Uh I
051can open the front. I can open one of the office. There's two places I can do that. That's it. ours will open front doors. >> Okay. >> And that's that's going to be a conversation when we go towards our five year master plan if that is going to to be the priority, you know, safety and security. >> Talking about the key, >> the keys are only for when power goes out >> or for the um maintenance who has different areas that they have to get into. Maybe somebody lose a key then we can make a copy. >> Correct. >> And that's usually the practice. Once we do lose a key, we just replace it. So that's why this increase in price is to cover for that cost because we cannot we cannot assume that oh
052it was lost and it will not be reproduced. No, >> we have to assume that >> we have to cut this out. [clears throat] Repe cuts and then issue the keys to >> I said every time that happens. So to me to me the the ID is >> the ID is not on every door only >> for certain. Yeah. >> Yeah. Like I said, I mean for for us, I guess it would have to come. >> No, that's why I say that we we have to look into that as part of our safety and security facilities >> and because that will require rewiring because if we have to decide that each of the classroom definitely it will require wiring for each of the classroom doors. Right now we use only for the main doors. >>
053Only for the main there. >> No, it's just a swipe. for the main doors but then after that inside or everybody else or everything else is a key physical key so if we do transition then uh definitely I will look at the cost analysis and uh but that's it you know cost of losing one and replacing one versus cost of transitioning will definitely propose to you something that would be cost effective for your consideration >> and I love the because >> if something happens I just go in Yes. [laughter] >> So, can you go back to only those front doors not having the RAM master access or not? Um, I'll have to do more research because I don't know how they changed it for it to read the core key because now there's >> one
054of the grandmasters on some doors doesn't quite work because that's telling me that's a no. The other one I've started signifying when I find that it's the grandmaster O. I lock the key that way so that I can start checking it and I've got checking who's got those GM O keys and just the GM keys. There's a lot in that one program to research and look through. So, >> I'm still [clears throat] researching. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Um let's see public access of school board email addresses. >> Madame President, members of the board, um as we transition to our new uh website, I believe there are some uh steps that we were not able to address specifically on uh making sure that the school board is accessible as far as contact and communication. Of
055course, we we want to make sure that we we follow the policy and things like that. But for the consideration and for the discussion of the board, um I know that we've created a JDTS uh board account. Um if we are going to put the email addresses like in the profile of the board members, a clickable option for the names that my recommendation only is it would be the JBPS and not your personal email. you know. So, um so we'll make sure that um if if you have um a non-functioning or a less functioning or less accessible email account to let us know so that we can make sure that um it's up and running and that you do get those communication. So that's basically the discussion item to make sure that you're aware that
056we will be putting your JBTS email in your profile so that it will be accessible for public. Moving down to consent agenda. [clears throat] Make a motion we approve the consent agenda. Please vote for Peter. Kathy. >> Wanda. >> Okay. Advanced planning. Um upcoming board meeting December 16. [clears throat] Future board trainings. Um work session Saturday, November 22nd.
