May 27 26 a meeting will roll please >> Mr. Canaro >> here >> M >> here >> M proek >> here >> Mr. Hess >> here >> Mr. Pressy >> stand for the pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> We're going to uh following along on the agenda be around pages. So, we're going to be moving around a little bit. Uh, right now, I'd like to go to the president's announcements. Superintendent's announcements. >> Thank you, Mr. President. My announcements, please. >> Good evening, everybody. Um before we begin with tonight's honors, I would like to take a few moments to recognize three very special members of our superintendent student advisory council who will soon
graduate and begin the next chapter of their journey. JD Sega, Mackenzie Moss, Nina Clark, please come forward. Give them a hand, please. One of the greatest privileges of serving as superintendent is having the opportunity to spend time with students, listening to them, learning from them, and gaining insight through their experiences, perspectives, and ideas. Our superintendent student advisory council was created for exactly that purpose to ensure that student voice remain at the center of our work and our decision-m. This group of students has helped challenge our thinking, affirm our direction, and provide honest feedback about the student experience in Mayfield City Schools. Throughout this year, they engaged in meaningful conversations about topics such as culture, student wellness, artificial intelligence, future readiness, personalization, and the overall student experience in our school district. Thank you again for the
example you have set for younger students and for the contributions you have made to our district. We are incredibly proud of who you become and are excited about your future. At this time, I'd like to call up Assistant Superintendent Mr. Jeffrey Lian for some reflections and key takeaways from this year's superintendent student advisory council. >> Let me keep you guys up here just to make you feel a little bit more uncomfortable. But um so I want to briefly highlight the important work uh of this group. This group has provided our district with valuable student perspective and meaningful feedback on a variety of topics like Dr. Barnes had suggested, including elective courses, mental health supports, school culture, and student learning experiences. Recently, this group presented to our board of education, which was an incredible event. What
what they wanted to do is this group wanted to share with the board what three items they would do to change schools to make it more meaningful and relevant. Their presentation provided thoughtful, honest, and solution focused insight into the student experience. The students discussed the importance of time, engagement, relevance, flexibility, and student well-being within the school day. Some of the ideas they shared was creating a zen room where students could take a short break to reset and regulate uh during the day, opportunities for more hands-on learning experiences, changing the length of learning blocks, additional support with the transition from middle school to high school, and even the idea of a summer camp model where students could learn practical skills and earn credits in a more flexible, hands-on, and relevant environment. Student feedback has directly influenced
this district because a student voice is so important. Our students have developed the option at the high school. They've developed some of our most innovative and instructional learning spaces throughout the district from designing what it looks like to even the color scheme. The advisory group continues to provide this meaningful insight that's going to help our work and help us move forward as a district. and we are grateful for their leadership, their perspective and their partnership. >> Please join us in celebrating our seniors day. Give him another round of >> applause. president. >> I'm gonna I'm gonna go to the president's announcements right now because hearing back about what these kids are doing and at this time of the year when we're out with all these different events at the end of the year. You know,
Friday we're going to be with the littlest ones at their preschool graduation class of 2039, right? Many of us won't be here in these position won't be here. We won't be here in these positions. Uh but things that these students do now are going to benefit these students as they go through the school and then less maybe a little bit more than 24 hours later, we'll be sending off our seniors. So, it's a great time of the year just from beginning to end. We appreciate everything that everybody's done. I'm going to move to the honors uh now and uh if we could have Mr. if you want to start, please. >> Good evening. >> I'm Mark, director of transportation. Uh we're honoring three bus drivers tonight. One of them could not make it, but uh
the other two are here. And their state or their uh certificate says in grateful recognition of your professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our students. Each day you play an essential role in the success of our students by safely transporting students to and from school with care, patience, and reliability. Your outstanding safety record and commitment to excellence reflect the pride you take in your work and the importance of the service you provide to our families and community. Despite ongoing ongoing driver shortages and daily challenges, you continue to demonstrate resilience, flexibility, and dedication. Your efforts ensure that students begin and end each day safely. Thank you for your countless miles traveled, the early mornings, as you know, we get there by like 6:00 a.m. and the late afternoons and the positive
difference you make in the lives of our students. We recognize and honor your dedication, commitment, and accomplishments. So, the first one is Tom Murphy. Come on up, TOM. Tom's nickname should be or his real name should be Eddie. Steady Eddie. I don't know if he's ever missed a day of work this this year. Uh if there's a trip that is unassigned and it's the day of the trip, Tom will take it and make sure our kids get to their field trips or wherever else they get to. Our next one is Jamie Vanero. Jamie is actually finishing up his first year with us. He started last year as a sub. Uh if you can imagine being a sub bus driver, getting a new route every single day. You don't know the kids, you don't know where
you're going. He barely knew the streets when he started. Uh but again, he's ending his first year. This year he was like halftime he had his own route, but again he was doing different routes every single day. And if Tom doesn't steal the trips, James and our last one is Jackie Gulich. She is not here tonight. She couldn't make it. Uh, but Jackie is also our OBI, which basically means she trains all of our new drivers and if you know anybody who wants to drive a bus, we handle uh and she also researchs our uh our van drivers and our coaches and things like that. Okay, thank you. Okay. Actually, Mark a little bit. >> Give it up for him. >> Mr. Schultz. Hello everyone. My name is Kevin Schultz and I am supervisor of
buildings and grounds and I am here to recognize two custodial staff members and uh their names are Stuart Goins. If you like to come up STUART which is unable to make it tonight. So, uh, Stuart Stuart is recognized for his outstanding dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence as a custodian at the middle school. Stuart consistently demonstrates pride in his work by ensuring that all responsibilities are completed thoroughly and efficiently. His positive attitude, reliability, willingness to step in whenever needed make him a valued member of the of the students and the staff. We congratulate Stuart Hines for his dedication, commitment, and accomplishments. And Justin Priel is recognized for his exceptional work performance, dedication, and strong sense of responsibility as a custodian at the Mayfield High School. Justin takes pride in the quality of his work
each day and consistently goes above and beyond support the needs of the building. His attention to detail, dependability, and willingness to assist others make him an important part of the school team. Justin's contributions help ensure a positive environment for students, staff, and visitors each day. We congratulate Justin Prietel for his dedication, commitment, AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS. NO BROWNIES HERE. Let's get the board members up. There you are. >> Thank you. >> Good evening. >> I'm Robin Smeille, service director, and I'm here to recognize a large group of hydroponics. It's a team that was able to do hydroponics at both the high school and um CBEC. So, my partner in crime was Heather Wallandor. She is the district library media coordinator. >> Yes, if you're here, I tried to spot who was here. If you're here, please come
up. Okay. Uh Deanna Eling is not here, but she also helps with a lot of the planning of the grant that we've received as well as launching this project. um high school teacher intervention specialist Christy Cervinick. Her students we have Pay Anderson and Lexia Warner. We also have C Principal Katie TOMCO Sarah Queso Sarah here Sarah's not here but she spearheaded the flex farm as we call it over at CA student Chad JOHNSON And then we have food service employees that also help to prepare the leafy greens, lettuce, different varieties of lettuce as well as basil and cilantro. We have Sandy Smith, I don't think she made it, manager of the cafeteria at the high school. And we have Vicky Good. Vicky's here FROM I think that's everybody. Yeah. And if I could say one
thing, these students and Chrissy Servenic, you have no idea. We grew 100 pounds of lettuce in the high school library and in ZAC. That means we replace They serve us about five boxes of 20 lb boxes of lettuce that our students ate at the high school and the middle school in their salads, in their wraps, in taco day, in their cilantro and rice, and in their basil pasta. Um, these students and with Christiey's leadership and Sarah's leadership and with Robin's guidance and Vicki, God, let's give her a hand. It's amazing when you get a little bit of resources and you have a community from diverse areas what you can accomplish and that's I think really what Maplewood Way is all about. So just give these kids a hand. They were fantastic. We couldn't have done
it without Heather. She dedicated a whole corner of her library to hydroponics books the whole I mean if you're at the high school go check it out. >> Yeah. And I want to thank Ron and um Julie. They came several times to look at the Pyroponics. I to see Ron first thing in the morning occasionally and we've talked shop and I just appreciate the support from the board as well. So thank you. Let's try to do two kind of down in the front. >> I lost you. >> That's perfect. All right. And then let's hit the board members with you. I'm going to need your help. >> Yes, please. Very nice. >> Well, thank you Oh, tomorrow we're doing a tasty event where we are board of health and we are comparing our lettuce with
storebought lettuce and kids are going to be just >> Hello again. >> So, I will be recognizing the uh school resource officers for their continued dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. Their presence in our buildings goes far beyond security. They build positive relationships with students, provide guidance and support, and help create a safe and welcoming learning environment each day. Thank you for your service, teamwork, and the care you show throughout our district. Your efforts are truly appreciated and do not go unnoticed. Thanks, JOE. We also have Scott Seabolt, school resource officer at Center Elementary. Gertie Dylan, school res resource officer at Millidge. Van Schneider, resource officer at Vander Elementary. Arch Tindler, school resource officer at Gates Mills Elementary. Matt Hosar, resource officer at the high school.
>> All right, moving right along. Uh, Mr. league and we have certified continuing contracts. >> Yeah. Uh tonight is a great night of celebration and we're going to be recognizing five of our staff members uh in the district that are going to be receiving continuing contracts. Um and what you're going to hear from their principles tonight is just all the incredible work that they've done over the seven plus years that they've been a part um of this district. So with that, I'm going to start off with uh Sean Kramer, principal at Lander. >> All right. I would like to uh call up Molly Crosby. So, it is my privilege to recognize Molly Crosby as she is awarded tenure with the Mayfield City School District. I also want to acknowledge and congratulate her parents, Ken and
Heidi, uh, whose support and encouragement have undoubtedly helped shape the outstanding educator and person she has become. Since joining the staff at Lander Elementary, Miss Crosby has distinguished herself as an outstanding fourth grade teacher whose dedication, professionalism, and care for students have made a lasting impact on our school community. On behalf of Lander Elementary, I'm proud to celebrate this important milestone in her career. And although this is a very important milestone, I think maybe her most uh proud moment is convincing all of her students that she's taller than me. >> Yes, this is the wrong time to say she has heels on. >> She will stand next to me and her kids will still say, "No, she's taller. I don't get it." Um, in the classroom, Miss Crosby consistently creates a classroom environment where students
are engaged, challenged, and supported. Her instruction is purposeful, thoughtfully designed to meet diverse learning needs uh of her students while also maintaining high academic expectations through engaging lessons, meaningful collaboration, and opportunities for critical thinking. She inspires her students to uh become confident learners who are eager to participate and grow. Equally impressive is her ability to build strong, authentic relationships with students, colleagues, and families. She fosters a classroom culture rooted in respect, kindness, and accountability, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported. Beyond her classroom, she is collaborative and dependable um member of our staff who contributes positively to team planning, professional learning, and the overall success of our school community. Her impact is felt across the building as she's a member of our building instructional leadership team and uh is the leader of Lander student
council. Her leadership, initiative, and reflective approach to teaching exemplify the qualities we value most in educators at Lander Elementary. Tonight, we proudly recognize Miss Crosby not only for earning tenure, but for the meaningful dis uh meaningful difference she makes in the lives of children every day. Miss Crosby represents the very best of our profession, and we are excited to see the continued positive impact she will have on our students, school, and community for many years to come. I'm going to use it as my Hi everybody. My name is Ellie Sakone. I'm the principal at Milidge and it is my sincere privilege uh to introduce Mike Myers here. He's a fifth grade teacher at Mil Ridge. Um he's been with us for years and as I was driving in today, I was thinking what makes Mike
Meyers so special and ready for tenure. And it's absolutely the the environment that he cultivates with his kids every day. Um, I just actually said to someone I was talking to, being a mom has made me a better educator. I'm not so sure that the reverse is true. I would very willingly put my two children in your care every day knowing that you would nurture them. You would uh expect high expectations. They would learn. You would push them just out of their comfort zone. And you do all of that while still making kids love school. And that takes a special art um and science that you embrace every day at Milidge. Mike is also a member of our instructional leadership team. He's someone that his colleagues look to to keep a calm. Um it has
been such a gift to have Mike work with our teams. We could be in the middle of a storm and Mike is like just chill everybody. We got this. We got this. And there's a need for that when um our kids and our colleagues are looking to us especially at the end of the year for that calm. Um so thank you for the calm that you bring. Thank you for the high expectations that you hold. Thank you for what you do um for our kids. day in and day out. And Kayla, thank you for being here to um celebrate him tonight and for sharing him with us every day. We'll take care of him just like he takes care of us. CONGRATULATIONS. >> Thank you. Congratulations. Hello, I'm Dan Cher, an assistant principal at Mayfield
Middle School and we have three teachers that are um being recommended for tenure tonight. Um Shannon Russo is one of them. She is not able to be here tonight. She is currently on our seventh grade trip probably right now having dinner with 200 of her closest seventh grade kids. Um Shannon's been a great addition just real quick, you know, to our building. She she's a Mayfield lifer. You know, a lot of you know her. She's K12. Went there and and somehow she was I think she's probably the first former student of mine that is being recommended for tender, which I'm not sure how it happened because I'm not getting older, but um she has turned into a really great teacher. She really cares about kids and we're really lucky to have her in our building.
Um Nate Dick, I don't think I saw him. I think he ended up not being able to come tonight. Um, but Nate really truly embodies what it means if you talk about a portrait of a graduate. If you would have been in our building the past couple days, he had hundreds of eighth graders building cardboard carnivals, meaning they were taking not only the physical science they learned to build these cardboard games out of old Amazon boxes and things, but also like tying the story of the game into their life in earth science. So, you know, he really embodies that portrait of a graduate and the critical creative thinking and all the things that we want from our students. So, congratulations to both of them. Uh, Miss Simmons, Miss Carmen Simmons is here. So, Carmen teaches
in our MHI unit at Mayfield Middle School. And for anyone that knows anything about schools, you know that Carmen's job can be one of the most mentally, emotionally, and physically demanding jobs in a school. It takes a level of patience, caring, and pedagogical skill that quite simply not every person possesses. Carmen has all of those things and more. Not only does Carmen have all the necessary skills, but she also provides the students with a sense of calm and always, always with a sense of dignity and respect. She truly embodies what it means to be there for every student every day. And every student every day for Carmen does not just end at 3:00. She can often be found working with her students outside of the school day, taking them to football games and doing things
I think like trick-or-treating. I heard and I say I think I heard because she doesn't talk about these activities. She doesn't tweet about them and she doesn't ask for any sort of recognition. She does it because she loves her students and it is truly about every student every day for her. We are proud to have Carmen as a member of our staff at Mayfield Middle School. We're proud to recommend her for tenure and we look forward to her having a long career at MMS and continuing TO picture them too. So, the superintendent recommends that the following staff members that we just heard about for granted continuing status as teachers effective with the 26.7 school year. I'll make the motion for approval. I have a second move. >> Roll call. >> Miss Greed? >> Yes. >>
Miss Groek? >> Yes. >> Mr. Hess? >> Yes. >> Mr. Tresy? >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. CONGRATULATIONS. >> CONGRATULATIONS. OF OUR CONTINUING CONTRACT, please come up for a group photo. Thank you. I don't know. Can I have register? >> Thank you. All right. So, before we let everybody go, we're going to move to our superintendent's consent agenda, items A through Z. Uh, need a motion for approval. >> So, move. >> Second. >> Roll call. call. >> M. >> Yes. >> Miss Croek. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hess. >> Yes. >> Mr. Pessie. >> Yes. >> Mr. Poro. >> Yes. >> Mr. Leing. We have new teachers. >> Yes. >> Continuing with the with the night of celebration. Um I'm excited to recognize two individuals in this room um that um that have been hired uh
by our district. And I want to tell you something. Being a product of this incredible community, um, we hire the best. We really do. We believe in family. We believe in our students. We believe in taking care of one another. So, being hired here in the district truly means that you are the best. So, with that, I'm going to call up um Kate. Uh, you're going to recognize our very first and you're going to hear some special things about our candidates. And I'm going to call her if you have to help me. Come on. She's loving this. >> Um, I'm going to go off script for just a little bit. I'm Kate Martino, the principal from Center. There are so many Center students that were recognized tonight. Mrs. Kokowski and I have tears in our
eyes seeing what you have done as you've grown into high school students. So, it's just been wonderful to watch. We're proud of all of you. Um, I'm also going a little bit off script because we have a new hire that could not make a previous meeting. So, I'm gonna introduce um Miss Haley Navy, who's not on this agenda. She was on a previous one. Um we'd like to welcome her to our fourth grade team. She's a recent graduate of the Ohio State University. Haley brings a strong foundation in effective researchbased teaching practices to support student success. Haley was on Oh, I already said that. Sorry. During her time at Ohio State, Haley completed her student teaching in southwestern city schools where she gained valuable experience both as a third grade intervention specialist and as a
fourth grade classroom teacher. Her preparation included a focus on the science of reading, PBIS, and traumainformed practices, all of which will help foster a supportive and engaging learning environment for our students. In addition to her academic and classroom experiences, Haley has demonstrated a commitment to community well-be and well-being through her volunteer work with mental health of America and as a field health coach. We're excited to have Haley join our team and look forward to the positive impact she's going to make at center and mental health. All right. And I'm Darcy Klowsky. I am the assistant principal at center and we have our second cyclone um that we are excited to announce tonight. So Sierra Feller is going to be a third grade teacher at center in the fall. She is also a recent graduate of
the Ohio State University. She brings a strong academic background and valuable classroom experience from her student teaching both um second and fifth grades in the Columbus area. During her time at Ohio State, Sierra was an active member of Letters of Love, a student service organization dedicated to providing emotional support to children battling serious illnesses. This experience reflects her deep commitment to compassion and care, qualities that will shine in her work with our students every day. We have no doubt that Sierra's kindness, empathy, and passion for supporting students will make a meaningful impact at center and throughout the Mayfield community. Now, this is our big feet giggle, and I hope you're okay with this. Her summer job at a local ice cream shop near her future principal's home has already earned her some bonus points and
the nickname of King Cone. So, we welcome Sierra to our family. And again, I just have to say because after I sent the text welcoming you, I'm like, "Hey, King Cone." I'm like, "Oh, I hope she gets that." So, congratulations. WE'RE SO EXCITED. AND FROM THE high school, uh, Brian Lynn. >> Good evening, everyone. Uh, I am proud to announce, uh, Emma Kohic. Emma, please stand up. Let's give her a round of applause. From the Ohio State University. Um, so want to tell you a little bit about Emma. She hails from North Royaltton. Uh the timeline of our hiring was fast and furious. Um we uh we had a kind of a a virtual meeting because she was just graduating. Um and I will tell you she set herself clearly apart in the interview process
and we knew that we wanted to see her in person. Uh so we invited Emma up. She drove up from Columbus for the interview and we were running behind a few technology issues and Mr. Conroy and I'll talk about that afterwards. But uh so we pushed Emma's interview and she was sitting very politely in in the prompts. When she came back here, she had a prior commitment in Columbus. We had 10 minutes to see Emma Kick do a teaching performance interview. And I will tell you myself, John Sullivan, Mike Gity, we we saw her and our jaws were on the floor. So, and that's a kudos to you. Her preparation, her materials, uh she taught me how to write a thesis statement in 10 minutes. That was great. Uh and then I had a quick
chat with her uh on the way to the parking lot and we knew based on her personality, her energy and she had me at hello. She is dedicated to she's passionate about written instruction, a strong background in journalism. Uh she she has high energy. Uh she's wearing the color green and we're so excited to have her. That's right. That's right. No purple anymore. Okay. But anyway, Emma, welcome to the team. We're so excited and and welcome to Mayfield. THANK YOU. WELCOME uh welcome to the family. Look forward to seeing you guys in the future. So uh at this point we're going to get into the business of the meeting. So if you have something better to do >> it so many things. >> Well, I am out of practice. community and there was no communication
talk at the minute. So, we are good. >> So, that brings us to other superintendent business. Um, >> committee unless Mike has committed for committee reports. Any reports?
