you would join us for the flag salute, please. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, let the records show all board members are present. We are missing Mr. New tonight. Uh, next is we have adoption of the agenda. Do we have a motion? >> So, move. >> Do we have a second? Okay. Miss Roman. >> Dr. McNeil? >> Yes. >> Miss McAdams? >> Yes. >> Chair votes yes as well. Next, we have the consent agenda. All of the following items. Those items of a routine nature normally approved at board meetings will be approved by one vote unless any board member desires to have a separate vote on

or on any or all of these items. The consent agenda consists of the discussion, consideration, and action on the following items A through P. >> Move for approval. >> Second. >> Miss McAdams? >> Yes. >> Dr. McNeil? >> Yes. >> Miss Roman? >> Yes. >> Chairs? Yes. Well, we have USPA reports, UCA report, Miss Gunter, President Reyes, Dr. Friendline, and members of the board. Um, our UCTA legislative committee is gearing up for civication at the capital. We do this every year. Um, we're planning on sending several people um to the capitol to advocate for public education. So, you'll get an email soon. And we're also launching a membership drive um later this month to hopefully welcome more educators into our association. Thank you. >> Thank you. Next, we have future ready career labs at 8th

grade center, Mrs. Kundy. Hi, Dr. Federline, President Reyes, and members of the board. Tonight, I'm here to share with you information about our Paxton Patterson labs at the ETH grade center. This year, we set up two different classes with 12 different labs in each. Both labs offer a wide range of careers and support the pathways into high school and support our mission 100% graduation college and career ready. One lab is centered around all medical careers. We have nursing, dentistry, veterinary, mental health, um emergency medical technician and others. The other lab is an assortment of careers ranging from technology, construction, engineering, hospitality, cosmetology, and criminalistics. What I love about these labs is that we're not driving kids into just one thing. It's so individual. I can talk to 20 different kids and ask them which lab

they like best, and they all have a different answer. they I'll ask them if they've found um a career or a pathway or something that they'd love um that they really like and want to learn more about and they will almost always say yes. One thing we have learned about the class though is it's not all hands-on labs. There is a lot more book work um that they do on the computer than I think the kids realized in the beginning. And sometimes that's a little overwhelming. They want to just get right in and do the labs, but they have to do all that prep work first. Um, but they they will in the end tell you, "Yeah, it was worth it. I needed to know that before." Um, I want to commend our teachers, Miss

Countermanman and Mrs. Teal. They are amazing. the learning curve that they have had to go through plus the massive amount of prep and organization each day to run 12 different activities in one classroom every single day. Kids are all doing something different and um they have done wonderful. They're like unicorns almost I will say because they are so good at what they've done. I do have a video where you could see it in action and then I'm happy to answer questions afterwards. >> 1 minute and 30 seconds of CPR remain. >> Bo choy. We've got cilantro if you want it. My name is Meg Henman. I teach the career connections class [music] at the 8th grade center. We use the Paxton Patterson labs and I'm really excited about this opportunity that has been brought to

Oklahoma. Union is the first to implement this wonderful opportunity for [music] students to explore careers in different career clusters. We run 10 different days for every module. So this gives them an opportunity to experience careers a little bit deeper than you might do in a one or two day assignment. One of the things students tell me is they are never bored. >> If that one broke, then the other one. We all know that kids learn best when they can learn hands-on. So, it's been just wonderful to be able to let kids think, create, and [music] just immerse themselves in some of the different labs that we have. I have had students who have learned how to fix things in their own homes. >> It is main maintenance. So, basically, you have to fix the sink,

take it out, repair everything. So, when I told my mom that I know how to fix a sink, at first she didn't think I could do it. I told her in the car, I was like, "I got a A for fixing a sink in class today." And she was like, "Oh, you should fix the one in the bathroom." So, I fixed it. She was really excited because she didn't have to spend $300 and it works better than it did before. >> Now, the herbs you want to use just a very little bit of. >> Each student gets to get their feet wet and see, you know, if they're interested in a career and, you know, even better, what they're not interested in. We want to make those connections so that when they go and enter

high school that they can follow the pathways and some of the tremendous opportunities that are there and that they already have an idea of what they want [music] to do. We are preparing students for careers that don't even exist yet. They have to be able to learn [music] how to do teamwork. They have to be able to critically think and they have to be able to pivot so that they are going to be ready [music] for whatever our market and our careers will be when they graduate. It opened their minds so much to, you know, the possibility of if you want to learn, then anything is possible. And I think that's been one of the greatest takeaways. >> So now you're just going to assist. You're just going to make sure she's safe. My name's

Janet [music] Teal. I've been teaching for Union for 15 years. It's my 16th year. And this is a new curriculum here at the 8th grade center. It's through Paxton [music] Patterson. I've been teaching medical. This is just a little bit more involved. and it does talk about the human system such as your circulatory, your respiratory. So I was already teaching that and this just incorporates that in a different way whereas the students are learning about the career that would go along with that. [music] They can explore and see if that's something they might be interested in. And it has some great hands-on activities that the students do once they've gone through concept [music] pages learning about the education behind what you're going to need to be involved in that kind of program. They just take

ownership and responsibility for them and for their learning [music] and that's really important to me. >> My mom is a medical person and I've always wanted to be that. So, I took this class so I could learn. >> Oh, there you go. You got it. Nice. >> I was drawing blood from veins. You got to like learn where to position it at to get the blood out. The rotations are good. She's a good teacher. She explains stuff really well. >> Stroke yourself. So, you can't use one of your arms now. You got to get yourself moved. There you go. It has [music] 12 modules and each of those labs are a different type of career. >> If they have the opportunity to kind of understand a little bit of it now, they can make better

choices when they're trying to decide [music] what classes do I want to try and take. >> DPR was probably like the best thing we've done so far for me. We did that in veterary medicine for like the animals and we also did it to each other and like on a mannequin. It's a skill that a lot of people could use and if anybody ever needs help like I know how to do it now. >> A lot of students here at Union have achieved so much before they even are ready to [music] graduate. Companies are looking for them and if they have some medical background there's opportunity to get summer jobs, something that [music] might further their interest so they will go on to school or be able to go on to college. So if they've

just figured out a path for themselves, that's a great goal once they leave 8th grade. >> [snorts] >> All right. So, there you go. Do you have any questions? >> Questions, comments? >> Do they take both sets or do they choose one or the other? >> They choose one or the other. It's a year-long class, so they sign up for one or the other. We have a couple of students that ended up taking both, but majority are only doing one. >> How different is the seventh grade on? >> All of the labs we have that we chose, Crystal and I worked closely, so we didn't overlap. So, um, if anybody that takes it in seventh, they won't have the same lab experiences that they did or in eth will be completely different from seventh. >>

Yeah. Thank you for sharing this. >> Yeah, you're welcome. >> Yeah, it's great. Thank you. [applause] >> All right. Next, we have hearings and correspondence. None. Okay. Uh business agenda, the first reading of the proposed 2026 2027 school calendar. Dr. Federline. President Reyes, members of the board, uh you have in your packet the uh first draft of the 26 27th school calendar. Uh we're scheduled to start on uh first day of classes will be Thursday, August 13th. Uh the new state law uh banning virtual days in CA except in case of emergency. We don't have any virtual days represented on the calendar. So that is a change. Uh no action is needed by you at this time. This will be the first reading. We'll open this up for public comment for the next 30 days.

We'll take that into consideration and then we'll ask you to approve it at the March board meeting. >> Thank you. >> Consider and take action on the changes to the 2025 2026 early retirement incentive ERRI program participation list. Mr. L. >> Thank you, President Reyes, Dr. Federline, members of the board. Um, we have an updated ERRI list. Uh, we have had eight teachers drop from the list. Um but we so we have 11 teachers uh three administrators and six supports still on the list for early retirement and is still a very positive program for us. So this is just the updated numbers for your approval as we move forward here towards the end of the year. >> Move for approval. >> Second. >> Dr. McNeil? >> Yes. >> Miss Roman? >> Yes. >> Miss McAdams?

>> Yes. >> Chair votes yes as well. Thank you. consider and take action to appoint Victor Red as a certified adjunct teacher for the remainder of the 2025 to 2026 school year. Mr. >> Thank you. Mr. Red currently teaches for us as a substitute. He is a certified teacher uh but not in does not have the certification in the area that he has been teaching. Um he is unable to be emergency certified. Therefore, we are going the adjunct route while he continues to get work on his alternative certification with the state. We'd ask for your approval for him to be an alternatively or an adjunct certified teacher. >> What school is he working? >> He is working at 8th grade. >> Yes. >> Move for approval. >> Second. >> Dr. McN. >> Yes. >> Miss

McAdams. >> Yes. >> Miss Roman. >> Yes. >> Chair. Yes. As well. >> Thank you. consider and take action on the mid-year change to the casualty insurance for general liability auto and other specified coverages to begin March 1st, 2026 and authorize the executive director of human resources to sign any associated contracts as well as initiate payments under the associated contracts. Mr. Ly, >> thank you. We've brought this change to the board. We talked about it in the business subcommittee uh pretty extensively. Uh but the reason for the change is really twofold. One of the things we've been having issue uh with Liberty Mutual as a carrier, uh they have been um completing um claims and fulfilling them without communicating with the district. Um while they technically have the right to, we've asked them not to,

but they've continued to do that. So, they've settled claims um claims that happened as accidents at the schools and sites and such and paid out money without us ever knowing that it happened. Now, it's not our money, but the concern is that will eventually drive up our cost because we had a higher claim cost. Um, especially a couple of them which we disagreed with a how much they paid or even that they did pay out, but there's nothing that we can do in that regards. They do have that right as the carrier. Um, so we're looking to make a move in carriers. Uh, the other part of that is uh knowing that the funding situation with schools is not the greatest. uh working with Bank First, they've been able to find us um some options

and with that option, it's actually going to save the district quite a bit of money. Um so we are looking to make this change effective March 1st from this year and then we do renewals again um in July as we normally do looking forward. Be happy to answer any questions you might have. >> Questions, comments. >> Move for approval. Second, >> Miss McAdams. >> Yes. >> Miss Roman, yes. >> Dr. McNeil, >> yes. >> Chair both. Yes. As well. Thank you. >> Consider and take action on the bid for bid for the fire riser relocation at high school project and award the contract to Magnum Construction, Inc. in the amount of $249,500 from bond funds. Dr. Robinson. >> President Reyes. Dr. Federline. Uh this project is to relocate u an 8 inch underground water line

that runs along underneath the hallway just outside the street market uh in the North Commons. Um that line has ruptured at least twice that I'm aware of. I've been told uh there's an urban legend. There's been several other times uh in its past. [clears throat] But while I've been in operations, uh I I know it has ruptured uh causing a an insurance claim. Um it ended up um buckling the slab and uh ruining the flooring in several adjacent classrooms. So this project abandons the underground line um and takes it up above head as soon as it gets into the building. So we have to build a small riser room under the northwest stairwell. Uh we'll there's some unused space under the stairs that we're going to turn into a riser room. Bring it above ground

there and then take it overhead. So if it ever ever does uh leak in the future, it's not causing all kinds of underground damage we can't get to. We simply turn it off and fix the repair above head. So we ask for your approval, >> questions, comments approval. >> Second. >> Dr. McNeil, >> yes. >> Miss McAdams, >> yes. >> Miss Roman, >> yes. Chair votes yes as well. Thank you. >> Consider and take action on the three-year renewal of Linewise services from Secure Tech in the amount of $147,957.75 from bond funds. Mr. Board, >> yes. Good evening. This is our uh internet filtering software we use for staff and students. So, it's actually three aspects to it. There's a content filtering um to keep internet activity appropriate. There's a classwise piece where teachers can

remotely see what's on the students laptops and blank out the internet and do all that stuff. And the third piece is the monitor piece which is actually a live person monitoring keystrokes that a students are doing. So if they're doing inappropriate searches, I get the emails and we talk to the principles. It's not fun. But more importantly, um any kids that are asking that are searching for um self harm, those also get alerted to us. And we've had at least half a dozen times where Scott Pennington's groups have been able to um step in and kids with suicidal ideiation, they've been able to get help and um get the help that they needed. >> Move for approval. >> Second, >> Miss McAdams. >> Yes. >> Dr. McNell. >> Yes. Mr. Roberman, >> yes. >> The

chair votes yes as well. Thank you. >> Consider and vote to approve a resolution pertaining to the district's $32 million general obligation building bonds of 2026, including fixing the amount of bonds to mature each year, fixing the time and place the bonds are to be sold, approving the preliminary official statement, and authorizing distribution of same. authorizing the clerk to give notice of said sale as required by law and approving other matters related to the issuance of bonds. Dr. Wicks. >> Good evening, Mr. Reyes and members of the board. Uh tonight is the first uh board action that we have on the uh 2026 bond sale of $32 million. The resolution that we have before you tonight sets the amount of the bond uh how much will mature each year. uh when the bonds will be

sold, how they will be sold, approving what we call the preliminary official statement, which was included in your board materials, and authorizing that that POS be distributed. Um giving the uh clerk uh notice of the sale as required by law, and fixing other details related to the issuance of bond. Um prior to uh this meeting we have uh again worked with our staff to prepare and update our POSOS statement. Uh we have met last week with our bond council and uh they conducted the due what we call the due diligence uh meeting where they go through a a laundry list of questions uh to make sure uh that what we state in our POS is in fact accurate and they ask a lot of questions about the district's finances, our understanding of the debt obligation

and the district's ability uh to meet that obligation. So those are all uh routine uh in nature. Uh the resolution that you have before you tonight sets the bond sale date as March 9th at 11:30 in the morning. Uh with your approval, we will take bids uh electronically at that time and then bring the recommendation for the bid award to the board meeting that evening. Be glad to answer any questions. >> Move for approval. Second, >> Dr. McNeel, >> yes. >> Miss McAdams, >> yes. >> Mr. Roman, >> yes. >> Chair votes yes as well. >> Thank you. >> Any new business? >> Okay. Opportunities for comments from audience or board members? >> No, I just want to uh thank the finance department all the hard work. Um these bond sales obviously are incredibly important

to the business of the district and we thank you for the organization uh to both the eighth grade and the seventh grade. We thank you for piloting uh the Pax and Labs. Uh anybody that knows anything about school knows engagement when they see it and those kids are definitely engaged and we're excited to see what that means for their future. >> Thank you. >> All right. Next, uh, we have a motion and vote pursuant to Oklahoma statute title 25, section 307B1 to go into executive session to discuss the evaluations of the superintendent and chief financial officer. >> Second, >> Dr. McNeil, >> yes, >> Miss McAdams, >> yes. >> Miss Roman, >> yes. Chair, yes. As well, we are now in executive session.
